Well, it turns out that there was a game on Instagram and after choosing pretty options on Pinterest I couldn't help but draw Hoshi with these (also a mini Hiro to fill in the drawing xD)
Here's a mention this little interaction between them because:
Tumblr media
Yeah...their relationship was before...didn't like each other, but no worries the time will decide later!

(For record, this happens in my Pokéverse in the near but undefined future, as Sacha decides to look for his father. His search brings him back to Alola, where he discover he has some roots.)
*
Maybe it had been too much tonight.
Everyday had seemed to bring its share of hopes and disappointments, of clues and dead ends, of black outs and painful memories to face. Sacha seemed to have a change of heart about the whole thing almost everyday, and the dark bags under his eyes didn't go unnoticed by his best friend. Looking for his father had been an incredibly emotionally taxing ordeal to Sacha, probably more than he was prepared for, and he was having a hard time dealing with the deep rooted anger he thought he had left behind long ago.
He had had an urge to escape momentarily the stifling living room, the memories, the dizzying conversations, the voices, everything. Dealing with his own emotions was already a lot, but he could feel the constant worries of those around him, too. He knew they meant well and that they came from a loving place, but sometimes… sometimes it was too much. He needed a moment of peace. Of quiet.
This beach had always welcomed his sorrows and doubts, his turmoils and tiredness. It was a place that helped him to stay grounded, and right now he just needed to focus on the feeling of the sand between his toes, curled on himself, hugging his knees and face disappearing in his arms.
Ritchie had followed him without a second thought, and was standing quietly by his side, not imposing his presence, but it was unexpectedly comforting for Sacha, despite his initial will to be alone. Right now, he didn't mind having his aniki close by.
"Do you want to go back yet ?"
"No." Sacha's voice was dry, almost soulless.
Ritchie fell silent. Not that he didn't know what to say, but he just knew that sometimes, there was nothing more to say. Only time would do his work. So he just stayed close, waiting for Sacha to be ready to go back, or just manifesting a need he could hopefully fulfill.
He was standing close to the water, his eyes lost on the horizon as the Alolan sky was turning slowly into beautiful shades of pink and orange. His mind wandered toward Orange Islands skies, slightly missing the sunset there; maybe the colors were a bit less vibrant, but it felt warm and it felt like home.
Home. Family. So many things kids should take for granted but that they were denied, in a way or another; and here they were now, young adults trying to navigate through the pieces of a mess they didn’t ask for, still healing, still fixing and defining what it meant to them. It was...
"Pyun~"
The squeal got him out of his torpor, and Ritchie blinked as he felt something nudging his ankle. The Pyukumuku at his feet looked back at him with shining, expecting eyes.
"It wants you to throw it back in the water." came the muffled voice of Sacha, still his face buried in his arms.
"Oh."
Ritchie wasn't very familiar with this Pokémon species, but it seemed nice enough, and he bent to pick the sea cucumber, before taking a few steps forward and gently put the Pokémon back in the water.
He watched it float a bit further as a wave was drawing back from the shore, before turning away. Sacha still hadn't moved, and Ritchie pursed his lips while thinking. Maybe he should...
"Pyun~"
Confused, his eyes traveled down to his feet again, only to see the Pyukumuku from moments earlier. He recognized the tiny notch on his second appendage. But why...
"No, you need to throw them back, like... Throw them."
Sacha's voice was really close and clear now, and Ritchie watched his friend bent in turn to grab the Pokémon... Before literally chucking it toward the horizon with all his strength. Flabbergasted, Ritchie stood there silently for a while, before turning to Sacha, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"Did you just... Did you just YEET this poor thing??"
Sacha snorted. "That's how you do it, here."
Still dumbfounded and at loss for words, Ritchie gestured at the waves, trying to voice his protest, but looking at his friend's assured stand, he started to chuckle at the absurdity of the situation. Despite himself, Sacha's mouth twitched into a smirk, and before long, the both of them were laughing out loud, tears forming at the corner of their eyes, and Sacha slightly felt tension leaving his shoulders.
"You just... You just...swoosh! Like that!"
Ritchie's bewilderment had turned into hysterical laughter, and a contagious one at that.
"But that's true ! Pyukumukus tend to come a bit too much on the beaches here, and tourists are not too fond of them!" explained Sacha after they calmed down a bit, breathless. "You can even easily get a part time job to throw them back in the Ocean. But if you don't throw them far enough, they'll be back at the same spot in no time."
"Okay, okay, I believe you." Ritchie wiped his eyes with the back of his hand, trying (and failing) to fight a hiccup. "Still..."
Sacha had started walking alongside the beach, and Ritchie followed him, his shoulders shaking as he reminisced the scene of his friend throwing the Pokémon in the sky.
"They are a bit dumb."
"Dumb?" Ritchie repeated with a funny voice, as another hiccup shook his chest.
"They tend to let themselves starve if someone or a current doesn't move them to another place! We even have a traditional celebration about it. Come on, I'll teach you."
We. Sacha was considering himself part of the Alola community, and Ritchie knew that even if he was still struggling with the foggy part of his origins, he probably had found his place a while ago, even if he hadn't consciously realized it. Somehow, the thought was heartwarming.
The next half hour was dedicated to chuck a dozen of Pyukumukus back to the Ocean, Sacha showing him how to grab them by the belly.
"Okay, try like this!!"
The sea cucumbers were flying back to the sea with delighted peeps and squeaks, and the two boys started to turn it into a contest. With each attempt, Ritchie was getting better, but Sacha seemed to have an expert aim.
"How many hours did you practice chucking Pyukumukus, exactly??"
"Actually, I was part of the baseball team in primary school." answered Sacha with a bit of pride in his voice.
"Oh, that explains your corny PokeBall throwing style."
Sacha kicked water in his direction for the tease, and for a while Ritchie could see again the 11 year old bragging boy in him.
He grabbed another Pyukumuku who was squirming on the sand, and tried to imitate Sacha's aim, but almost tumbled down in a wave as his eyes caught something.
"Wait." Another hiccup. Damn this was getting annoying. "I think I threw a shiny one!"
"Was it green?"
"Yep."
Sacha's amber eyes, turning almost bright orange with the sunset, sparkled with an excitement Ritchie recognized on the spot; he was about to act upon any crazy idea that just went through his head. And sure enough..
"Come on, let's go catch him !!" exclaimed Sacha while pulling Ritchie toward deeper water, not even letting him the time to protest nor resist.
*
It didn't take long before they were on their way back to Kukui's house, sand sticking to their wet feet, soaked shirts and shorts dripping in their wake, and Ritchie still wondering how he now had a new Pyukumuku chirping on his shoulder.
At least his hiccup was gone, and Sacha's smile was back.
