To make these bar chart race, all series titles in the Theater Category on November 29 (or the closest date to it) of every year were copy-pasted from Wayback Machine to Google Sheets, rearranged according to number of fanworks, and then inputted to Flourish to turn into a bar chart race.

Locked fanworks aren't included in the count because Wayback Machine can’t view those, only Ao3 users can.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians - Rick Riordan was in the Theater category in November 29, 2022, but has been removed by the time this post is published, so I'm leaving it out of the chart.

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon may be in the top 10, but only 1% of its fanworks come from Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon (Musicals).

Fandom tags that are no longer in the Theater category tag as of posting this are left out of the bar chart race. These tags are usually either miscategorized or already have other tags referring to the same fandom.

For tags that existed on the same years before eventually merging into one tag later on (such as Romeo And Juliet - All Media Types which later on merged with Romeo And Juliet - Shakespeare, and Hamlet - All Media Types which later on merged with Hamlet - Shakespeare), I use the data of whichever tag has the highest number for that year.

Tissue

“Tissue” - thin paper and human skin (fragility of humans)

“Paper that lets the light shine through, this is what could alter things” - reference to religious texts paper, light as Jesus and Allah (power of religion) - or coexistence with nature

Enjambment- freedom, lack of control of humans

Free verse- same thing

“Let the daylight break through capitals and monoliths” - power of nature, criticism of authority, weakness of humans (any idea what techniques are here??) (personification I guess)

“The sun shines through their borderlines” - nature overcomes human segregation (identity, criticism of war, power of nature) sibilance shows power

“fly our lives like paper kites” - childish metaphor, mocking control of money over life (criticism of authority)

“the back of the Koran” - non English spelling shows her holding onto her own identity,

“Transparent” - repetition, criticism of dishonesty of authority

Exposure

“Merciless iced east winds that knive us” - personification of wind shanking people (first line not about war but nature- more significant) (power of nature)

ABBAC rhyme, structure is built only to be taken down (tension of soldiers expecting fight but let down)

Pararhyme- unsatisfying for reader, reflects how the soldiers are always nervous but never get to chill

History Boysssss (homosexuals)

“Enemy of education” war metaphor and alliteration, opposition between true understanding of literature and grades only used shallowly

“a fact of life” indisputable and unchangable, in opposition with Irwin’s views on history (truth does not matter to him until now?)

Drummer Hodge: Intertextuality, Tom Hardy (the poet) represents Hector, sympathising with the ordeal of the youth, Drummer Hodge represents the Boys, thrown into the chaos of life

“She’s my western front” war metaphor objectifies Fiona, [my] personal pronoun further expresses how women were seen as objects to be owned

“… all the other shrunken violets you people line up” [you people] segregates gay people, [shrunken violets] derogatory language

“Some of the literature says it will pass” looking to literature for solace and comfort during a sexuality crisis, sad gay energy

“All literature is consolation” Dakin changes his mind on literature symbolising him changing to Irwin’s side. No need to look for solace in literature when he is a successful bisexual

It's vital to the themes of the History Boys that everyone be miserable forever, but what this ship presupposes is... maybe it isn't? Maybe Scripps helps Posner get through his multiple breakdowns and they enter a healthy relationship and nothing bad happens to anyone ever again?

Christopher Pike/Spock (Star Trek: The Original Series)

Pike was the first captain Spock ever served under, and when Spock found out he had been terribly injured and paralyzed, his immediate reaction was to falsify documents to trick Kirk into taking the Enterprise to Pike, then commendeer the Enterprise to take Pike to most forbidden planet of all time, even though he was putting himself and the rest of the crew at tremendous risk. Granted, Spock is deranged and lies all the time, but his devotion to Pike is definitely worthy of note.

Day 12 - Dakin (The History Boys)

I headcannon Dakin as bisexual. In the book, his sexuality is never confirmed. However, one of the sub plots in the play is his crush on Irwin. My English teacher tried to pass this off as a manifestation of his power complex and although that is true, the fact remains that Dakin had feelings for a man. He is obviously into both women and men.
