Meet ‘The Blind Mechanic’ Who Trained His Ears, Hands To Detect Car Faults
by ReportersAtLarge June 25, 2023
Murtala Shuaibu is one of perhaps a select few people in today’s society who can steadfastly adhere to his objectives and values despite his physical limitations. The sight-challenged mechanic has been repairing cars for more than 30 years. He is from Agbede, in the Estako West Local Government Area of Edo State.
Shuaibu is well-known as “The blind mechanic” among many people of Tugamaji, a neighbourhood on the Gwagwalada Motorway in Abuja, where his auto business is situated.
However, a TikTok user who claimed to be one of his clients recently released a brief video about him, which caused his fame on social media to skyrocket.
The 55-year-old blind mechanic quickly explains in the popular video, which has already had over 80,000 views, how he accurately diagnoses and fixes a variety of vehicles.
The Kano State-based father of two revealed to Saturday PUNCH that he lost his sight while operating a vehicle in 1996.
Shuaibu remarked that the support he received from others around him strengthened his commitment to carry on working as a mechanic with a hint of confidence in his voice.
He said, “I am a visually impaired mechanic. I am 55 years old and I have two children – a boy and a girl. I started learning this work in 1988 but I went blind in 1996.
“Before then, I was physically ill and sought treatments, some of which I think had side effects that affected my sight. I started to have blurred vision in both eyes. Initially, I thought it would go away but it got worse.
“One day, while I was driving, I lost my sight and could no longer see with both eyes. It was like being in the dark all of a sudden, but I resolved to continue as a mechanic because that was the only source of living that I knew.
“At the initial stage, I was living in regret but people around me encouraged me not to dwell on my disability but continue with my work and there were people who believed in me.
“That was what convinced me to continue working. I became visually impaired before I got married, so I decided it shouldn’t stop me from my life goals.”
Trained ears, hands
Shuaibu gradually learned to use his senses of touch and hearing to fix cars after losing sight, which was essential for his job.
He recalled, “At first, it was very challenging to repair cars as a visually challenged person. I thought I couldn’t fix cars, identify their defective parts and gauge their problems without my sight. I almost gave up in discouragement, but my persistence and courage kept me going.
“I had no other means of work and rather than become a beggar, I decided to put my mind into adjusting to my new situation. So, I began to train my hands, nose, and ears to make up for my lost sight. I mastered car parts with my hands and attuned my ears to the sound of engines so I could detect when there was a problem. That is why if I hold a spanner in my hands, I can tell its size and use my hands to chart where I should apply it.
“I also rely on my nose to sense if there is a fault with the cars I work on. After years, my ears became sensitive to figuring out what is wrong with a car and my hands adapted to changing automobile parts with minimal assistance.
“Now, once I listen to the noise of your car, I can tell you its problem whether it is coming from the amber or there is a stabiliser leakage or the nozzle needs to be serviced and fixed. I work on Toyota, Honda, and other cars.”
Shuaibu learned the skills necessary to maintain cars gradually from his early days as an apprentice to a local mechanic.
His customers soon complimented him on his ability to diagnose car problems quickly, and as a result, they started referring him to their friends and coworkers.
Shuaibu explained to our correspondent how he goes about his daily activities and said he needed time and care to perfect his sensory abilities.
“When you bring your vehicle to me, I will ask you to start the engine and then I listen carefully to it. When you rev the engine of a car, and something is wrong with it, if you listen carefully, you will hear some abnormal sounds that will emerge from it. Mechanics know this.
“There are times I ask the person patronising me to open up the bonnet and I will use my hands to decipher or check what I think may be wrong. I can show you what is wrong or mention what you need to buy. If you want to buy the part yourself, that’s fine. I can send someone to help me buy it and fix it for you.
“But to be sincere, sometimes, it is unbelievable how I work on cars and I can easily detect what the owners don’t detect.”
Challenges encountered
Shuaibu still faces some difficulties despite his desire to overcome the limitations of his vision handicap.
Some folks find it challenging to trust me with their cars since I’m blind, he added. They are perplexed as to how, without having their physical sight, I can diagnose the issues with their vehicles.
“When I initially began out, convincing my clients of my abilities took a lot of time and work. Some people also try to underpay me or dispute with me when I explain the criteria for their vehicle. Fortunately, I am well-known in my workshop community and can identify my clients by their voices.
“Some curious people come around just to watch me as I work. Others bring me their cars and as I do the repairs, they are amazed and recommend me to their friends and colleagues at work.”
Shuaibu, a mechanic who is blind, needs assistance from others to get around the city and get to Kano, where his family is located and which is 423 km from his business.
“I have the support of my friends and family members that help me. Though I work here in Abuja, I live in Kano with my wife and children. Sometimes, I have to close the workshop before 7pm when it gets dark in order to get home safely. It can be dangerous out there for people like me and you can’t tell who is who.
“When I want to travel to be with my family, I usually go in the company of my friend. Although there are several occasions that warrant me to rely on the kindness of others to cross gutters, board buses, or ensure my safety in public.
“I have a friend, Muhammed Ibrahim, here in Abuja under whom I work. He owns this workshop. My stay in Abuja is temporary, maybe for three or four months before I return to Kano State.
“Ibrahim sometimes goes to work on clients’ cars where I wouldn’t be able to go physically because of my condition. I stay with my friend whenever I am here in Abuja, and I also have a younger brother who also lives in this city.”
He continued, listing accommodations and transportation as two of the biggest challenges he had to face, particularly for people who are blind or visually impaired.
“Accommodation is one of the biggest challenges I contend with here. Another is mobility, especially for someone that is blind. Some of my clients live far and their cars have broken down completely in need of my intervention, and they have come to trust me.
“There is a physical limitation that my condition places on my profession and that is why I hope to get a means of transportation with which I can be going to meet my clients when their cars develop problems rather than waiting for them. I am also planning to get my own shop so that I can work freely in a space that is suitable for my physical challenge.”
The blind mechanic concluded by exhorting young people—especially those with physical disabilities—to never lose sight of their abilities and to resist giving up.
“Youths should have job skills even with education,” he remarked. “People with disabilities are endowed in their own special ways as well, and they must resist the temptation to give up.
“Young people should constantly be confident in themselves and understand their potential. When I went blind, I would have given up my job if I had been surrounded by pessimists.”

Why Does My Car Have a Gas Smell?
Tumblr media
If you are driving around and start to smell a strong gas odour in your vehicle then this can be a sign of a very dangerous problem. It's a good idea to become familiar with a few of the various causes of gas odour while driving so that you can remain composed and know what to do.
Is it safe to keep driving if I smell gas?
The short answer is no but you can't tell how serious a problem is until you troubleshoot it, but some of the minor issues won't cause your vehicle to blow up or catch fire. Even just inhaling gas fumes has the potential to sicken or even kill you. The best course of action is to check your vehicle as soon as you can, and then have the car fixed right away. Search for garages in Reading for any car related advice or help.
Here are the possible causes why your car smells like gas:
Your car may have been exposure to gas fumes
Gas vapours have been in contact with your car. Gas fumes, for instance, might readily enter your automobile if you've just parked it at a crowded gas station and may linger there for a while. However, the smell of gasoline should ultimately go if your car is exposed to gas fumes. If the smell in your car doesn't go away after some time, you're probably facing a much more significant problem.
You may be missing your Gas Cap
If you smell gas when you turn on your automobile, a missing, faulty, or damaged gas cap may be to blame for the evaporation of gas. Check to see if you closed your gas cap after refuelling as your first priority. Additionally, make sure the gas cap is well fastened. Otherwise, it can be letting pollutants into your cabin.
You can always make do if you lose your gas cap a few miles down the road. In this situation, car garages in Reading advise to use a rag to seal the filler neck to stop gas from evaporating and slosh. After that, you should get a new gas cap as soon as you can. The same holds true if your gas cap is cracked. It is rather cheap, and changing it is equally straightforward.
There may be a gas leak
If you have a gas leak, you will definitely notice a fuel smell in your car. Your car pumps gas from one end to the other. You can have a gas leak anywhere along this process. Your fuel gauge is dipping considerably more quickly, which is the first sign that you have a gas leak. It's quite obvious that you have a fuel leak if your fuel level drops overnight. A multi-colored puddle under your automobile might be seen if you let your car idle for a while. If there is a fuel leak, checking your vehicle after it has been left overnight should reveal a puddle under the vehicle. Your fuel tank, fuel line, injector, or fuel injector might all be the source of the leak.Be sure to search for car services near me to get your car checked and to make sure that there are not any other problems

First Guide To Speaking Value
Subsequent, divide that outcome by 9, which can give you the maximum grams of whole fat really useful for you. Consider the AMC Eagle, at this time referred to as the first crossover vehicle, however first outlined as "What the hell is that," an apt description that may possible be used on many of the newer crossover vehicles trundled out annually. As AMC gross sales flagged the firm started mixing parts of the two corporations to spice up sales and revive the badge. As more crossover automobiles hit the market in the late 1990s and early 2000s journalists and automobile firms started hammering out a loose definition of what a crossover car was, and utilizing that definition and time period on their fashions. Surviving Eagles look like the "early man" version of a CUV, sort of a missing hyperlink of the automobile world. In the U.S., a handful of children have died from head injuries after leaning out bus home windows and being hit by roadside objects like indicators or trees.

It is a typical admonishment made to folks with a penchant for sticking their heads, arms and even their ft out the windows of transferring vehicles, trains, school buses and extra. Spread baby's arms out to the sides, convey them in across his chest, and unfold them out once more. Slowly pull her to a sitting place (let her use her arms and abdominal muscles as a lot as doable) as shown in Step 2 above. If escalade limo service take pleasure in jogging as well as walking, nonetheless, be aware that you can't use the similar pedometer -- set to the identical adjustment -- to gauge your performance in each activities. Nonetheless, the time just wasn't proper for these kinds of vehicles -- but. Hold water bottle in proper hand and curl it up towards your shoulder. Have you ever put your arm out the car window and let the wind catch your hand like a sail? The truth is, in 2015, a female passenger on an extended car ride throughout Ontario, Canada, did what many individuals do. The Jeepster was a two-wheel-drive convertible coupe that was designed to enchantment to individuals who may be turned off by the utilitarian qualities of different Jeep vehicles. Not all limbs which are caught out a moving car window end in amputation, however we do know that of the 2 million folks who have had limb amputations in the U.S., Forty five % of those amputations were prompted by trauma.
But it is this free mixing of perception and phrase alternative that makes finding who coined the time period "crossover" so tough. Who coined the term 'crossover vehicle? There's the Oregon man who lost an arm when the automotive he was in sideswiped a tractor trailer. And then there's the story of a 5-year-old boy in Rockland, Maine, who looped a jump rope round his wrist and trailed the finish out an open window. The automobiles labored properly and bought effectively and pushed AMC sales up for a number of more years before changes out there, specifically new players in the nascent area of interest crossover market, put AMC out of business. Their first experiment was taking an AMC Concord and equipping it with a Jeep driveline underneath chief engineer Roy Lunn's guidance. FORDANC | consideration of the future
Tumblr media
MMXXIV | ΔΩΜ.ΑIΝ.ΣΤ | ΖΚΗ
THESIS: The surge of the use of the word "careful" pre-emptively conditioned Amerian English users for the additional responsibility of maintaining a motor vehicle. LEXIGRAM: What googles gram viewer does is displays a graph showing how searchable phrases have occurred in a corpus of books over the span of years. Literature was the primary form of information dissemination, education and entertainment so it seems a statistically reliable gauge for our gaze backward in time. (Unless the uncatalogued books in the Vatican Archives hold some untold secrets...jk.) THE MATTER : While pundits will argue til the cows come home about when the first functional car for mass production was developed in America, the point of note is when gasoline fuel cars rolled onto the scene.
It's no secret that the letters to spell "fuel" are present in the word "careful".
And while almanacs and statistics may be unable to provide us with insight into the actuality of the increased risk of danger during the time in which the word "careful" climbed the charts, it's statistically telling of a prescience. A herald of things to come.
The Duryea brothers, Charles and Frank, of Illinois, released the first mass production gasoline combustion engine-driven automobile in September of 1893. (Brittanica)
For preliminary comparison purposes, lets look at the lexigrams for "careful" and "fuel" in the year 1805, the year Philadelphia-based inventor Oliver Evans released his steam-powered amphibious vehicle:
Tumblr media
Fairly low usage compared to nearly a century down the line.
Now lets take a look back at the year the Duryea brothers released the first combustion gasoline-fuel-powered vehicle in 1893:
Tumblr media
The term "fuel" hadn't made much progress in the way of the big stage of words. But we see "careful" reached the first of its two most significant peaks during the same year that the gasoline automobile hit the streets.
Why? Well, it could have been for any number of reasons. Increased hazards to pedestrian citizens and drivers alike as municipal and federal entities kicked the American infrastructure development into overdrive.
"Careful" and "fuel" converge in equilibrium of use for the first time in the year 1918. And while pinpointing the exact cause of that conversion may be impossible, we're left to wonder or imagine reasons.
Tumblr media
I would posit that the term "careful", being a conduit for the word "fuel" by proxy, saw a surge in the years leading up to its convergence with "fuel" as a collective subconscious effort to condition the act of "fuel"ing a car as a canon duty.
In 1920 we see "fuel" reach it's first peak.
Tumblr media
All the subconscious priming paid off as "careful" subsided in use as "fuel" reached its A-HA! moment in the American psyche, the realization that it was a staple of a new way of living in a more interconnected society less constrained by the limits of time and distance.
Not to mention, the introduction of regulations and safety standards in developing automotive and manufacturing industries alike likely contributed to the subsiding of the term "careful", despite OSHA (the Occupational Safety Hazard Administration) being another 50 years ahead. As the concept of "fuel" became more accepted, so ebbed the necessity for a word containing an imperative anagram ("careful" : "fuel car"). By 1978, the term "fuel" had reached the height of its circulation. While, inversely, "careful" was only years away from its lowest point of usage.
Tumblr media
The term "car" reached its peak around the time Henry Ford's vehicles would have been in wide circulation. Nearly exactly around the time that "careful" and "fuel" first intersected.
Tumblr media
Alls I'm saying is the fates are real fancy. Alfred the Great of Wessex catalogued in his Old English transcripts of the Psalters the singular occurence of the word "fordanc", meaning "consideration of the future".
Tumblr media
Anybody out there speak Ye Old English? Maybe you can add some historical context. Whether or not related to the serendipitous or providential? oddity I'm at here.
Tumblr media
Anyways, we se a resurgence of the term "car" in our literature, reaching a second denouement around 2013 as the electric and hybrid automobile industry came into its domain. Simultaneously we see a sharply inverse parity between the usage of the terms "car" and "fuel" in the years preceding. And knowing our modern capitalist system, that was likely a more meticulously crafted campaign to disassociate the idea of "car" with "fuel" that whatever fateful intelligence spent so long preparing society for.
Tumblr media
Here we see "gasoline" was actually never really a popular term among the mass writing and printing industry:
Tumblr media
Even so, shorthand "gas" for "gasoline", still took a dive in relation to "car".
Tumblr media
The thing that gets me is the word FORDANC. History's weird like that. One of those phenomena that's either Ripley's Believe it or Not or there's a rip in the fabric of spacetime. In retrospect, this probably counts as a subconscious response to having heard the phrase "be careful" in use by people in passing. I know it's a well-wish...or I think it is. In part of my mind, it presupposes that the conditions for unforeseen calamity are ripe and I am somehow unawares.
What about you? When you bid someone farewell, do you say "be safe" or "be careful"? Or something else? I'd rather not passively condition a fear pre-response in people I care about. Or even in people I don't know.
"Be careful" implies that there is looming danger or that you are somehow not in line with expected norms.
Being aware of one's own operating in the peripheral spaces renders "be careful" a moot annoyance if I'm being honest.
So what's our next equivalent of a 3,000-pound death machine? Siri? Chat GPT? Cookies from your favorite website? Facebook? We haven't reached a Vonnegutian 2BR02B-esque euthanasia craze yet. And so far, aside from my own internal struggles (which have admittedly impacted my life in some ways), I feel we live in a relatively safe country.
Maybe it's was the norns. The fates. The muses. The angels. But danger themselves they are not. Merely harbingers of change. In my mind the Pantheon's lesser beings always seemed to view mankind with a vast aloofness. In retrospect I realize that is only a reflection of the interest I took in them. Which, until recently was none.
Angels have their orders and prophets. Muses their artists and projects. Elons their pockets and rockets.
And me? Well, all I've got about me right about now is my wits. And even they ain't there all the time.
Anyways, thanks for reading if you made it this far. I'm' trying to migrate from a mosaic spiritual style of rhetoric to a more historically based, realistic modus of operandi in our "ever-changing" world.
That should be "worlds". For as our inner worlds change, our relation to our outer worlds is altered in proportion. As far as scale and particular contingencies, I'm still working that out. But so far I like what I see.
It's the responsibility shared to mediate our relationship to the future by understanding the past. Here I merely present one way in which so to do.
I see order. I see guidance. I see potential in us. Potential for good.
And I hope you do, too.

Grayscale’s Bitcoin Belief (GBTC) has change into an important instrument within the cryptocurrency world since its launch by Grayscale Investments. As one of many pioneers in offering a bridge between the normal funding panorama and the nascent cryptocurrency area, GBTC permits buyers to faucet into the Bitcoin market with out immediately shopping for, storing, or managing it. Monitoring GBTC’s value motion has change into paramount, particularly for analysts aiming to gauge market sentiment. Crafted within the mould of a standard funding belief, GBTC’s distinctive proposition lies in its methodology of holding Bitcoin. As an alternative of particular person buyers grappling with cryptographic keys and wallets, Grayscale centralizes the holding course of, utilizing high-security measures, together with chilly storage mechanisms, to make sure the protection of the belongings. GBTC shares, representing possession of a fraction of the belief’s underlying Bitcoin, are traded on the OTCQX market. The OTCQX, or the Over-The-Counter QX, is a top-tier, regulated market for shares and securities that don’t commerce on standard, large-scale exchanges. It affords a platform for corporations to entry U.S. buyers whereas complying with excessive monetary requirements and disclosure practices. One distinguishing characteristic of GBTC, setting it other than some ETFs (Alternate Traded Funds), is its lack of a redemption mechanism. In easy phrases, buyers can’t trade their GBTC shares immediately for Bitcoin. As an alternative, they'll solely commerce these shares on the open market. This design alternative aids in offering extra value stability, stopping giant buyers from abruptly cashing out and considerably affecting the market dynamics. The distinctiveness of GBTC lies in its premium, a time period denoting the distinction between the market value of GBTC shares and the precise worth of the Bitcoin it holds, often called the Web Asset Worth (NAV). Graph displaying the GBTC Bitcoin premium from Oct. 11, 2022, to Oct. 11, 2023 (Supply: CoinGlass) This premium arises as a result of a number of elements. Initially, GBTC was one of many scarce channels for institutional gamers to entry Bitcoin publicity, particularly in restricted jurisdictions. This exclusivity led to GBTC buying and selling at a considerable premium. Furthermore, GBTC’s liquidity and comfort added to its attraction, driving a wedge between its value and the precise Bitcoin worth. Nonetheless, this premium isn’t static and may oscillate based mostly on market situations and remodel into a reduction. Traditionally, GBTC has proven a excessive diploma of correlation with Bitcoin (BTC). That is anticipated for the reason that major asset underlying GBTC is Bitcoin. As BTC costs transfer, the worth of the Bitcoin held by the belief additionally shifts, influencing GBTC’s NAV. Nonetheless, the market value of GBTC, affected by provide and demand dynamics for its shares, can deviate from this NAV, resulting in the talked about premium or low cost. Graph displaying the p.c enhance and correlation between GBTC and BTC from Oct. 11, 2022, to Oct. 11, 2023 (Supply: TradingView) If rules round cryptocurrency funding automobiles change, it might have an effect on GBTC’s attractiveness to buyers, resulting in price movements independent of Bitcoin’s price. As extra cryptocurrency funding automobiles emerge, particularly these providing options GBTC doesn’t (like redemption options), it might cut back demand for GBTC, affecting its correlation with BTC. One such looming regulatory determination is the potential approval of a Grayscale spot Bitcoin ETF. The market is abuzz with hypothesis, with many believing that Grayscale may be the frontrunner in securing this approval. This transformation would deal with the longstanding premium/low cost difficulty and function a monumental step in integrating cryptocurrencies into mainst
ream finance. The potential advantages are manifold. An ETF construction would streamline the buying and selling course of, presumably bringing in a contemporary inflow of institutional cash. Furthermore, it will additional solidify Bitcoin’s place as a authentic and acknowledged asset class. Nonetheless, a Grayscale Bitcoin ETF might additionally introduce heightened volatility, particularly throughout its preliminary days, because the market adjusts to the brand new dynamics. And whereas the GBTC premium has traditionally been a bellwether for market sentiment, an ETF conversion may dilute this indicator’s efficiency. Few things are more annoying than a dead battery leaving your car stranded. While replacing an old battery is inevitable, you can recharge and extend the life of a battery that still holds a charge. Learning proper techniques for charging your car battery can save the cost of replacement. This guide covers steps to safely and effectively charge a lead-acid battery in your automobile using either a trickle charger or jumper cables. We'll also discuss signs your battery needs recharging, precautions to take, how long to charge it, and when it's time to replace. Revive your dead battery and get back on the road. Steps to Recharge a Car Battery There are two main methods for recharging a depleted car battery: Using a Battery Charger Disconnect battery cables - negative first Clean battery terminals and remove corrosion Connect charger leads to battery terminals Plug in charger and allow to fully charge overnight Using Jumper Cables Position a donor vehicle with a good battery adjacent Safely connect positive then negative jumper cable leads Allow battery to charge from donor car for 5-10 minutes Start your car and rev engine slightly to charge further Disconnect jumper cables when done - negative side first Keep reading for more details on properly executing these steps. Choosing a Car Battery Charger A battery charger, also known as a trickle charger, is the safest way to bring a dead battery back to full power. Look for key features: Automatic Shutoff Prevents overcharging once the battery is replenished. Models without auto shutoff must be unplugged manually. Reverse Polarity Warning Alerts you if leads are connected backwards to avoid damage. LED Charge Indicators Display how charging cycle is progressing. Better models show percentage charged. Built-In Desulfation Removes accumulated sulfate crystals from battery plates to extend life. Temperature Compensation Prevents over or under-charging based on ambient temperature. Quality brands like NOCO, Black & Decker, and Schumacher make reliable chargers for home use. When to Use a Jumper Cable Setup Jumper cables allow drawing power from a good battery in another vehicle to temporarily charge a dead one. Reasons to jump instead of trickle charging: Don't have access to a battery charger Need to quickly get back on the road Intermittent charging issues where battery isn't completely dead Testing if charging resolves starting issues before replacing battery Cables provide mobile charging power in a pinch, but should not replace a full charger if extended charging is needed. Choosing Jumper Cables Jumper cables contain two wires - one red and one black. Key features: Guage - Larger cables (typically 4 or 6 gauge) safely handle more power. Length - 10-20 foot cables easily reach between parked vehicles. Avoid excessive length. Insulation - Thick insulation resists heat damage. Clamps - Ensure a tight grip on battery terminals. Again, trusted brands like Energizer are known for quality and safety. Safety Tips for Charging a Car Battery Working with batteries and chargers poses risks if proper precautions aren't taken: Remove rings/jewelry - Prevent shorts from metal contacting battery terminals Wear eye protection - Protect against corrosive acid if battery cracks or boils over Work in a ventilated area - Disperse dangerous hydrogen gas while charging Position cables properly - Avoid entanglement around moving parts of engine Stay focused - Avoid distraction which could lead to shock or short circuit Unplug when done - Don't leave charger connected indefinitely after charging Exercising caution protects against injury as well as damage to electrical systems. Signs Your Car Battery Needs Charging Watch for these common indicators a charge boost is needed: Dim headlights when
idling Lack of start-up power or slow cranking Battery tester shows low voltage Battery light coming on while driving Reduced radio sound quality Electrical problems like power windows malfunctioning Recharge at the first signs of weak output. Waiting until the battery is completely dead risks permanent damage. How Long to Charge a Car Battery Most depleted batteries require: 1-2 hours minimum at high initial charging current 6-12 hours for a full 100% charge using a standard 2A trickle charger 24 hours or overnight for larger batteries above 60Ah capacity Follow all timing recommendations provided with your specific charger model. Do not leave unattended for longer than required. Step-by-Step Charging and Jump Starting To recap, apply these steps to properly and safely recharge a car battery: Using a Battery Charger Disconnect the negative then positive battery cables Clean any corrosion from battery terminals Connect the charger's red lead to positive terminal, black lead to negative Plug in battery charger and allow to fully charge overnight Jump Starting with Cables Position a functioning donor vehicle within cable reach Connect one jumper cable end to positive donor battery terminal Attach other end to positive terminal of dead battery Connect one end of the negative cable to negative donor battery terminal Attach other end of negative cable to metal ground on dead car Allow to charge 5-10 minutes before disconnecting in reverse sequence Follow these steps precisely to avoid polarity mix-ups or other charging mistakes. When to Replace Instead of Recharge While charging can temporarily revive a battery, replacement is required if you notice: Holding a charge less than a few days Severe corrosion on terminals that can't be cleaned Cracks, bulges, or damage to the battery case Sulfation and oxidation evident inside battery Failed battery load tests at repair shop A battery that won't hold charge more than 24-48 hours after recharging requires replacement. FAQs Still have questions about safely charging your car battery? Here are some common queries: How long does a car battery take to recharge? Expect a typical drained battery to require 6-12 hours charging at 2-10 amps. Larger batteries may need 24 hours or more. Avoid under or overcharging. Can you overcharge a car battery with a trickle charger? Quality automatic chargers will shut off or switch to maintenance mode once fully charged, preventing overcharge damage, so long as you use an appropriate charger for your battery's specifications. How often should you charge a car battery? Today's maintenance-free batteries only need occasional charging if drained by leaving lights on, etc. Otherwise, they should not require charging during normal use throughout their 3-5 year lifespan. Can you jump start a completely dead battery? A battery must have at least some residual charge for jumper cables to work. Totally dead batteries often need replacement. Jumper cables provide a brief charging boost rather than fully recharging. How long do car batteries last? On average, car batteries function for 3-5 years before capacity begins fading requiring replacement. Proper maintenance and avoiding full discharge extends battery lifespan. Using a dedicated battery charger or jumper cables provides a convenient way to revive an undercharged car battery and get back on the road promptly. Follow these safe charging techniques. #Wiack #Car #CarInsurance #CarRental #CarPrice #AutoLoans
