This fic is just, it's really fucking good and I can't stop thinking about it. It's lulaw, and it is, technically speaking, a soulmate AU, but it's such thoughtful and methodical worldbuilding that it manages to avoid the problems I tend to have with soulmate AUs.

i think my favorite thing about this fic is that it takes the underlying mysteries about soulmarks and such that characters in such fics are usually largely incurious about and it says hey. of course people would be fucking curious about WHY the universe guides certain people towards each other. of course many, many people would spend a lot of time trying to think of a satisfying answer to this question. and i think my favorite part of this fic, what makes it really stand out to me, is the explanation portgas d. ace offers law in one of the later chapters, and the way law responds to the idea. i can say pretty confidently that ace's idea of what soulmates are for isn't what you'd expect, but i think it's also very him.

However, as he began to walk away, he couldn't help but believe that not taking Straw-hat's words seriously would be a mistake.

This is from way back in chapter two, when Coby’s losing his mind about how ambitious Luffy is. This is my first time reading the official English translation rather than fan translations, and it caught my attention that Luffy’s usually translated as being a lot ruder here - saying ‘because I felt like it’ or ‘because you were annoying me’ rather than 'because you were hysterical’. Which would you say is more accurate to the original? - @hollowistheworld

Okay it’s actually even funnier than any of those (“because I felt like it” appears to be the closest) because Luffy’s line in Japanese is なんとなくだ/nantonaku da! Which is, nantonaku literally means ‘for some reason or another’ or ‘without knowing why.’

So it’s straight up like, “Why’d you hit me?!?!” “I dunno!”

Readers Overall: I loooooooooooove thiiiissss storyyyyyyyyy. I think I’ve read it at least 3 times. Not tired of it, still love. Wish it was longer because I really could sit and read another 100k of just Lawlu domestic fluff. I would be so down. Everything about this is lovely and amazing and just so- ugh. Law being in ultimate panic denial is always fun. Anyway this is fantastic and soft and real and basically one of the best things ever.
