Still trying to figure out who Lorelai was pre-tadpole and landing on highly charismatic and charming but cruel as all fuck under the surface. Obviously she's a killer, duh she's Bhaal's Chosen, but the way she goes about it is devious as fuck.

So thanks to the halo effect, no one ever sees her coming. She can seduce or charm her victims into following her to some secluded place or allowing her into their homes(a favorite ploy of hers is to play the damsel in distress. " oh please help me, I was attacked and just managed to get away!") and then strike when their guard is down.

Obviously, it doesn't matter who she kills; it's all meat to Bhall, but she prefers to target the wealthy and then help herself to dresses and jewels before vanishing into the night.

Which brings me to the topic of everyone's favorite tyrant.

She meets Gortash at a party, hunting for her latest mark. He catches her notice when she sees him schmoozing his way around the room. He notices that she's been tailing him all night and that the earrings she's wearing are a pair he bought for an older lady he was trying to charm into investing in his business ventures;that is until said lady was brutally butchered in her sitting room one night.

He calls her out, more annoyed than anything else, and then tries to strike a weapons deal with her in the same conversation. She doesn't deny her crime, and agrees to meet the next day to discuss business.

They are ridiculous and awful and I love them.

Because instead of just saying “yeah gotta go!” and leaving Buck to flounder and worry and feel used, Tommy does the opposite

Tommy wants to stick around, wants to be there, and wants to be with Buck. And he says so by the way he adjusts Buck’s shirt, by maintaining eye contact, explaining it, and Buck isn’t left to spiral right after the kiss.

And after Buck’s little “okay” that still holds a sense of awe and maybe not being super present (which can’t blame him, I mean have you seen Lou), Tommy still assures Buck of his place by asking for a date.

It’s all these things that add up to Tommy making sure Buck is a priority and Tommy will keep that as a promise.

Buck deals with abandonment and not feeling right in the world, and Tommy is there to say “hey, in this world, in my world, you can feel safe and free to be you.”

Book bans are happening. Bodily autonomy rights are under attack.

The idea that there are "lesser" evils is propaganda.

actually obsessed with Athena and Apollo’s entire dynamic btw though like. they can switch from mercilessly dunking on each other to giving each other very sincere emotional support in literal seconds. the first interaction they ever have is her throwing a cop at him. AA5’s overarching narrative is told almost entirely through the framing device of Athena reflecting on how they became friends in the first place. they get given a scroll with a drawing of two yokai on it as evidence in the murder they’re investigating, and immediately start debating which one would win in a fight. he watches the same video about her current hyperfixation with her five times on loop. he has to talk her out of kicking down a metal door. they’ve held hands onscreen twice. he starts telling her about the gore in a manga he read once, in excruciating detail, within less than an hour of meeting her. she asks him to tie her up to prove a point and he ties the rope in a decorative bow. he has a complete nervous breakdown over the prospect of not being able to trust her or keep her in his life. she is very aware that he’s having the breakdown but blames it on a jacket. they’re on opposing sides of Ladder v. Stepladder. he asks her to punch him. she asks him to rip out a handful of their boss’s hair. they once got into a custody battle over a stray cat. and like that’s just off the top of my head

Man, I genuinely owe my life to FtM Girlies. Without them I wouldn’t have figured out my gender shit anywhere near as well and would probably still be going “Yeah I’m a trans gal. That’s… close enough. I’m happier as that than a Cis guy so I must be, right?”

Without them I wouldn’t have really taken the time to sit down and realize just how fucking weird gender can be, and the kind of things you can do with it.

I will forever remember the moment someone I was chatting to was discussing their pronouns, and pulled out a damn FLOWCHART. It could more or less be summed up as “Cis people: I am a trans dude, I use He/Him pronouns. Binary trans people: I am nonbinary. I use They/Them pronouns. Everyone else: Use whatever weird shit you think applies best to me.” and looking at it forced my third eye open and allowed me to realize just how vast the potential of gender was as a means of self-expression and identity, and how much of our identity rests in our relationships with others.

That was the moment that made me take a step back and go “Well now hold on a second. DO I want to be a girl? AM I a girl at all?” Sitting down and questioning “If I was AFAB, would I be cis?” And realizing that the idea of being a cis girl was just as revolting to me as being a “cis” guy for so much of my life was. Had I been AFAB I absolutely would still end up as trans! Which got me thinking about what my transition goals actually WERE.

Even now years later I stilled haven’t explored the full extent of my gender, and the potential that still lies within it. It’s become so tangled up in my relationship to DID as well as my views of animism. It’s something deeply personal, and I’m not sure if I’d ever even be capable of sharing the full extent of it, though am happy to try for the curious.

The more I talk with friends, the more I realize I’m not alone in this. Bespoke genders are AWESOME and incredibly common actually! Even my ‘cis’ friends that I’ve talked to, when we really explore it, and up saying stuff like “Yeah I’m like 90% cis. There’s certainly SOME complex stuff there but it’s small and not worth the hassle”, but even as they say that I can see that bit of joy of not HAVING to bottle up that tiny bit anymore. And it’s beautiful!

EVERYONE should be comfortable exploring the full extent of their gender. Everyone should take pride in that little tiny sliver of gender fuckery dwelling inside them!

Okay so I binged this series in about the span of a week and it did things to my brain. The scene where Yui gets Satoru to come home and sleep lives rent-free so I had to draw it. She's the most little sister ever and this scene made me cry from the bittersweet wholesomeness. My utmost respect to slex for this masterpiece of a fic.
