Below the cut is a template email to send to Edinburgh Pride regarding sponsorship from Aegon, who have investments linked to the genocide in Palestine. Please feel free to use this text or edit it and make it your own and send it to [email protected]
Dear Edinburgh Pride,
As a queer person living in Edinburgh, I was deeply saddened to learn that the march partner for Edinburgh Pride 2024 is Aegon.
In December 2023 the ‘Don’t Buy Into Occupation Coalition’ published a report that showed Aegon have US$564million invested via shares and bonds in companies operating in illegal settlements in Occupied Palestinian Territories. Source: https://dontbuyintooccupation.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/2023_DBIO-III-Report_11-December-2023.pdf
We are watching a live-streamed genocide every day - over 36,000 people in Palestine have been murdered by Israeli forces, including at least 15,000 children. The brutality of these atrocities are unthinkable, with evidence of torture and targeting of hospitals, ambulances and refugee camps.
We all have a responsibility to do what we can to end this genocide. As queer people, we are part of a rich history of resisting oppression and dehumanisation - of both ourselves and those we stand in solidarity with. Pride started as a protest against homophobia, transphobia and police violence. It is an important moment to come together as a community to celebrate queer joy and resilience.
But how can we celebrate using profits stained with the blood of our siblings in Palestine?
Aegon has $564million invested in companies that have been listed by the UN as “raising human rights concerns” for their operations in illegal settlements in Occupied Palestinian Territories, In 1948, 750,000 Palestinian people were displaced from their homes and lands and since then, Israeli settlements have been used to spread this process of colonisation.
In addition to this figure, Aegon also has major investments in Eaton Corp Plc., who supply parts for helicopters and fighter jets to the Israeli military and have recently been the target of major protests at their factory in Dorset. They also invest in Amazon, who support the Israeli military with surveillance technology used against Palestians.
Israel has long used ‘pinkwashing’ as a tactic to justify the brutal repression of Palestinians, using queer people to legitimise this horrific violence. We refuse to allow this to be done in our name.
The tide is turning on companies like Aegon that profit from investments in the companies complicit in genocide. Recently, both Hay and Edinburgh Book Festival have dropped Baillie Gifford as a sponsor after over 800 authors called on them to divest from companies involved in Israel and the fossil fuel industry.
I ask that Edinburgh Pride:
Calls on Aegon to commit to divest from companies involved in supplying technology to Israel and operating in illegal settlements.
Drop Aegon as a sponsor until they are able to show evidence of divestment.
Publicly call for a ceasefire and a free Palestine.
There is no pride in genocide.
I look forward to hearing your response.

Least favorite exotic weapon: Parasite (she hates the worm ammo)
Least favorite exotic armor: Arbor Warden
5 things your Guardian dislikes:
- Jokes on her accent (being bilingual) - Close-minded people - Tea - Dumb pranks - Dishonesty
Your Guardian has to rest. What is their living space like: A very basic studio situated in the walls. It's very cheap and consists of a small kitchenette, a simple bathroom with a toilet, a sink and a bath/shower and a bedroom with a single bed. There's a rather big window that allows her to see the Last City. She often naps on the couch near said window.
Does your Guardian have any casual wear?: Yes (see references pics on refsheet.net)
What hobbies and/or skills does you Guardian have: Surprisingly talented with piano and singing, a hobby she hasn't much practiced before getting access to a musical hall in the Last City (thanks to Ikora). Maja's also a rather skilled mechanic and sometimes likes to hang with Amanda when she needs to clear her mind off of things.
What would your Guardian's lore book be called: The Moon and the lion
Where was your Guardian reborn?: Found by her Ghost somewhere in nothern Europe, Maja was first reborn from the light in an old military hospital. Something must have gone terribly wrong considering all the skeletons found within the facility.
What were they wearing when they were reborn: She had a bulletproof vest with a massive hole near her heart location, military trousers and boots. Her vest was so torn she had to abandon it. Her hair had remnant of teal in it, her brown roots showing up.
What was their reaction to being reborn: Fear and anger. Had Atawhai not been there, she likely would have hurt Little Sunshine. The Ghost doesn't hold it against her, but like to tease her about it when the occasion comes.
What was their reaction to their first rez: She threw up bile. Happened after training with Atawhai (she mismanaged her grenade).
After being reborn, did they meet friendlies first or hostiles: Friendlies. Quickly learned that other guardians might not be as friendly as her mentor and friend and thus mistrusted everyone they met.
Who was the first other Guardian they met?: As said earlier, Athawai.
Did your Guardian get reborn with, or find, any indication of their past life? If so what do they have/found: An hospital plastic bracelet. Her name was somewhat intact, her birthdate only showing the day and month.
Going back to your Guardian's lore book, what would be some some quotes or passages from their book: "People always think of me as weaker. I think they forget that no matter my size, I remain a Titan. Ever seen a Hunter fly?" "Sometimes, I regret not having been the one to have a final death. So many have died and I feel powerless. But then I remember that... No matter what, if I'm still there, that means I have to keep fighting to protect the City."
Does your Guardian have a significant other: It's complicated. (Mr Crucible Handler and this fierce titan have their ups and downs)
Did your Guardian go explore first before going to The Last City? If so, where to: Since she was rezzed during the middle of the Dark Ages, Atawhai showed her a lot of places.
What was their reaction to first seeing The Last City: Maja and Atawhai came back to the Last City when the walls were mostly built. They did help before regaining the wilds and exploring more in the search of possible civilians to escort/save.
Is your Guardian a part of a clan: No Clan
If your Guardian would have a quote as a flavor text for a weapon and/or piece of armor, what would they be: For a bow: "Funny how when you fire with a bow, it's elegant and silent, but when you get hit, it's like a whole tree fell on you."
If your Guardian has had any interactions with any civilians (The Last City/The Farm), Eliksni, Cabal, Vex, Hive, Taken, Scorn, Rouge Lightbearers, or Iron Lords/War Lords(if your Guardian is an Old Light) tell us about it!: During the Dark Ages, Atawhai, part of the Sunbreak order, had cordial relations with the Iron Lords. They both kept their distance but wouldn't mind helping them if needed. They also happened to have accidentally crossed on Shaxx's territory more than once, earning them a few deaths, but never a permanent one. Atahwai thinks it amused Shaxx in a way to see Maja getting so riled up all the time.
Does your Guardian have any unconventional allies or connections(By Vanguard standards): At the time, yes. Maja had connections with some Eliksni's from the House of Devils after helping one of theirs from a certain death from one of the less savory guardians. This earned them to be able to cross some places without being harmed.
How does your Guardian feel about themselves or others using Stasis: Maja is scared of Stasis, not trusting herself with those powers.
Did they run The Last Wish raid? How did they react to seeing a live Ahamkara a.k.a Riven: Maja was around during the Great Hunt. She was heartbroken that these creatures were murdered due to guardians/people using the power of the Wish dragon to do wrong. She however understood why it happened, but never wants to tell tales about it.
Did they run The Deep Stone Crypt raid? How did they react to the Crypt and seeing Exo Eliskni: -
Is your Guardian from D1? How did they react to seeing Taniks alive once again:[Insert string of swedish swear words from how upset she was]
Where did they go and what did they do during The Red War: Tried to help civilians escape as much as she could to the Farm. Almost got herself killed in the process trying to save a dad and his daughter while boarding Atawhai's ship. Had to recover for a while.
Here are some characters that are either polarizing or have created a strong enough mass emotion within the community. What opinion does your Guardian hold on each of them(These are only a handful of characters!)>>>
Osiris, First Warlock Vanguard, originally exiled: She has troubles wrapping her head around him. However, she deeply respect him, no matter how excentric he is
Eris Morn, Bane of the Swarm: Feels awfully sorry for her. Impressed by her.
Cayde-6, Sixth Hunter Vanguard: Finds him very irritable, but is a bit envious of his ability to defuse situations most of the time. His death came like a crashing wave, especially when she heard that it was Sentry who brought back Cayde's body.
Ikora Rey, Second Warlock Vanguard: Often talks with her when they have a bit of time, usually around a cup of coffee. Seeks her when she tries to figure her emotions out.
Commander Zavala, Second Titan Vanguard: Shows respect to him, they've always remained on strictly cordial and professional terms.
Saint-14, legendary Titan, First Titan Vanguard: Absolutely adores the Titan. When he first disappeared, she cried a lot, mourning a friend. Upon the news of him returning to the Tower after Traveler knows how long, was one of the first to greet him with the biggest Titan hug she could make.
Lord Saladin, Iron Banner handler, One of the last remaining Iron Lords: Dislikes him for his choices at Twilight Gap. Still shows him respect.
Lord Shaxx, Crucible handler, Hero of Twilight Gap, living megaphone: Has a strange relationship with the Warlord. Infatuated with him and wishes for more but their duties come first. Sometimes will spar with him, or just share a drink or two. Extremely admirative of him, she tries to outdo herself in the Crucible just to hear his praise on comms (and is often banned for the week for terrorizing the new lights due to it.)
The Crow, New Light, Ex-Enforcer to The Spider: Doesn't really interact much with him. Learned from Sentry about who he was and feels sorry for him.
The Spider, The Shore's Only Law, founder of "House" Spider: Would fight if she could.
Uldren Sov, Prince of the Reef, Master of Crows: Didn't like his antics at all.
Mara Sov, Queen of the Reef, Queen of the Awoken, Ex-Kell of Wolves: Respects her and will do duties if guardians are needed on the Reef. Curious about her. Learning about her and Shaxx's "affair" had her envious.
Variks, the Loyal, founder of House Judgement: No real interaction with him.
Mithrax, the Forsaken, Kell of Light, founder of House Light: Adores the Eliksni, taught him a few human things and will chase anyone teaching him anything wrong.
The Exo Stranger/Elizabeth "Elsie" Bray, Granddaughter of Clovis I and Sister to Ana Bray: Mysterious lady but likes her, especially since she's trying to save her sister in a way. At first, she was very suspicious of her due to her being a Bray.
Empress Caiatl of the Cabal Imperial Empire: Huge admiration on the Cabal Empress. Sparred with her and had great fun.
Taniks the Scarred, the Perfected, the Abomination, the Shadow Thief: Despises the fucker for killing Andal Brask. Can't believe he's not dead yet.
The Darkness is fast approaching. How is your Guardian handling it: Not too well. She is extremely anxious, especially since the Final Shape is upon them, but she will fight. Even if it means she'll draw her last breath. Little Sunshine is on board with it too.
And finally, does your Guardian have any advice for any New Lights: "Don't judge a book by its cover. I can toss a Hunter flying across Twilight Gap like no other."

Unlocking the Cost of Your Hotel Booking Website: A Deep Dive
Tumblr media
In the ever-evolving travel landscape, a robust hotel booking website is no longer a luxury, but a necessity.
Whether you're venturing into the online hotel booking space or seeking to expand your existing business, understanding the cost involved in building a user-friendly and functional website is crucial.
This blog delves into the key factors influencing the cost of your hotel booking website, empowering you to make informed decisions.
Website Design and Development
Complexity: A basic website with essential functionalities like search, booking, and payment options will have a lower cost compared to a feature-rich platform offering interactive experiences and personalized recommendations.
Customization: Opting for a pre-designed template can be more budget-friendly, while custom website design allows for a unique brand identity and caters to specific needs, impacting the cost.
Development Team: Hiring an in-house development team can incur significant salaries, benefits, and infrastructure costs. Partnering with a reputable hotel website design company with expertise in this domain can offer a cost-effective alternative.
Additional Features:
Advanced Search and Filter Options: Allowing users to filter by location, amenities, price range, and guest reviews adds value but increases development complexity and cost.
Multilingual Support: Catering to a global audience by offering multilingual support necessitates additional development effort and ongoing translation costs.
Integration with Third-Party Platforms: Integrating with payment gateways, channel management systems, and loyalty programs can enhance functionality but involve additional costs for development and potential ongoing fees.
Maintenance and Ongoing Costs
Content Management System (CMS): A user-friendly CMS empowers you to manage website content and updates independently, reducing reliance on developers and potentially lowering costs.
Hosting and Security: Choosing reliable hosting and robust security measures ensures website uptime and data protection, incurring fixed monthly or annual costs.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Implementing SEO strategies improves website visibility in search engine results, potentially requiring ongoing investment in content creation, technical SEO optimization, and potentially, marketing campaigns.
Determining the Right Budget
The cost of your hotel booking website can vary significantly based on your specific requirements, desired features, and chosen development approach. It's essential to prioritize features based on your target audience, business goals, and budget constraints.
Ready to unlock the potential of your hotel booking website?
Contact a hotel website development expert today to discuss your vision and receive a personalized cost estimate tailored to your unique needs. Prometteur Solutions is top mobile and web app development company in India and USA.

"Zombie" Apocalypse OC Chart
So I saw someone I follow use this template and wanted to make my own. I put zombie in quotations because my oc isnt really in a zombie apocalypse but more of whats going on in Mycopsychosys, a game by Delta Cat Studios, I'll link their twitter and itch.io below incase anyone want to check it out.
It is a really good game and is set in Spain, which is nice to see since I am also from there and I don't get to see lots of game set there. I really like their ideas for the world and while there are a few divergents from the game and the world of my oc, everything else i basically the same.
The OC's, name Apollo or Apo for short, lore is that they are sick and dying of cancer when their is a huge spore out break, infecting millions of people. They manage to not get infected by wearing a mask and get out of the hospital, which is full of infected people. Once escaping, Apo has to figure out what to do with the rest of their life and decides to get a journel and document their final days. Queue them traveling to as many places as possible and recording every single day in their journel, so that if in the future someone find their book, they would now how humanity ended.
In the background of all of this, the mycelium that is infecting people is slowly becoming more and more sentient and now has to ability to be more crafty when infecting other humans. It now can plan attacks, push peoples buttons, smoke them out of enclosed areas, etc, however, it lacks a lot compassion and empathy.
The mycelium, using the body of an infected person, finally catches Apo and is about to rip off their mask when Apo tries to strike a deal, if the mycelium lets them continue writing about the last days of humanity until their journel runs out of pages and then they'll willfully get infected. The mycelium agrees, partially because their is about a hand full of humans left alive in the world so its not like Apo can avoid, and partially because they want to see where this will got.
After a while of surviving the apocalypse together, the mycelium ended all humans except Apo by this point, Apo finally get on their last few pages. Unfortunately, their cancer is catching up to them so they ask the mycelium to bring them somewhere nice to die. The mycelium ends up taking them to the ground zero, where the physical mycelium is, and lays them down is a patch of mushrooms as Apo finishes writing their final page.
As soon as they finish, Apo give their journel to the mycelium and asks them to take care of the book and when they become a civilization, because Apo believe they can be, to let anyone read it so they can know how the last days of humanity were. The mycelium, who learned about different emotions and how to navigate thme through Apo, learns the last emotion they ever will from them, grief. They promise to fulfill Apo's last wish and Apo take off their mask reveling a smile that has been hidden under neath it and take a deep breath, in filling their lungs with the spores of the mycelium.
Sorry for the info dump on my oc but I hope you like their lore! The ending of it can just stay like that or it can have a good ending with the mycelium working to get rid of the cancer inside Apo and preserve their bodies till they are healthy again and can come back a see the future world, but I kinda prefer the original ending.
Anyway here is the character sheet.

I wrote a text to accompany the announcement of Felix Deiters' exhibition The Questionnaire which opens Friday, 13 October 2023, 6–9 PM at SOX. If you are in Berlin, please join us.
--
🎶How does the disappearance of time influence your mood, mental health and bodily experience? Help us find out by signing up for, and sharing, our new pre-registered survey! These surveys will track your mood, your experience of the (time) crisis, and your interoceptive experiences on that day. You can stop at anytime, and should do so if you feel any distress whatsoever from completing the surveys. 🎶
The first time she had her tarot cards read, she was told to keep her question quiet, to herself. And in this crowded bar she took a breath of relief and with sedulous silence, she uttered nothing. Oh, how good this felt to be offered both the question and the answers, she had thought.
Considering how much biometric data she had shed into the world, it was astonishing how much more diffuse she was with information. She told herself this spoke of a desire to inhabit other identities, of voraciously collecting stories, of wanting to remain odd-angled, hazy-like, being based nowhere-in-particular but here, and of always preferring another scene altogether, like a second opinion to her own thoughts. Anything but a straight answer, and never settling on a favorite color. Not that she didn’t have one, she simply preferred to complicate impressions made of her.
But a questionnaire isn’t a manifesto, I told her.
In 1617, an interrogatory comprising eighty-four items guided the commissioners of Eichstätt in Bavaria in their investigation of suspects. Some of the questions were grouped under topics, such as “Diabolical lust” or “shapeshifting.” Under the latter, one of the questions asked was “Whether she did not change into other forms; why, how, when, and by what means did it happen (no. 75).”
In a world where death came often and unannounced, I imagined how such questions required precise answers when the only guides were shaped by dictated prayers and confession-by-fire.
A questionnaire would have to be cast like a spell, she said. And the answers would bear the contours of a knife found in the crease of a striped couch. Words thrown like insults to exercise one’s conjured slang—the bastard tongue lovingly excoriating the mother. Or Panacea fucking Epione, I said over her laugh.
She wanted to know if there was this one lie I kept, and would always reach for when trying to give a satisfying answer to a stranger felt like watching my doppelgänger reach into my organs with a grin. I realized that I didn’t possess such a handy tune to sprinkle. I already killed the louche fucker, I probably answered instead.
I take that you have one to recite, I asked. Yes.
She had always loved taking and trying on things from her friends’ closets, or from a lover’s bedroom floor, a shirt worn the night before preferably, and when they would say you look good, she would always believe it. She thought how such gestures were templates to her own advice column, or towards an entire self-help book for casting foolish yet sensual responses when each question is a riddle. After all, advice—whether unsolicited, unwarranted, or desperately sought—appeared in ancient philosophical treatises, and medieval medical manuals, before it became the golden smear of Facebook’s actually infinite News Feed.
It was the hospital regime that produced the first sets of standardized protocols for the collection of information forms to be filled in by doctors. Volker Hess and Andrew Mendelsohn have written about “the technology of paper pre-scribing,” namely, blank sheets ruled in columns to obtain particular data. By the end of the 18th century, hospitals in Berlin and Vienna used these to record patient admission, diet, and discharge (or death). More detailed diagnoses and treatments for each patient came to be added, or recorded, on separately configured sheets or in journals. In long-practiced disciplines, such as medicine, the categories or topics written at the top of the columns – symptoms, diagnosis, prognosis, cure, etc. – functioned as implied questions.
I told her how much I loved to look at my multiple reflections formed by opposing mirrors in the entrance halls of the old Charlottenburg apartment buildings. Like a relentless acquisitor of circumstances, you seem to extend into the infinite when in reality you get progressively darker and fade into invisibility, long before you even get to the end. I remember how she looked at me as if I had just hurled an occult formula she could deviate into a questionnaire. It’s in the way mirrors reaffirm body consciousness by gesturing deceptively towards our inherent failure of communication—how my reflected body would be saying no when I wanted yes. Is that what being in the world means to you? she finally asked me. Maybe.
The push and shove of wanting, immersed in such an unstable, expansive present. How does one sequence self disagreements? I responded.
Eventually, I told her that the questions I’ve answered best were always the ones conferred like orders by a lover, questions without interrogation points, permissions really. As if possessing a strange talent like drawing blood simply with their fingers touching my skin. Conjuring veins for a laugh, or a fuck, and never expecting words. She would attempt a dispute, insisting that a questionnaire is always like an armor to the one who asks. The one who asks doesn’t have to endure any of the arrows yielded in return, she yelled at me. I remember how I stroked her hair, consoling her fantasy of opting out by saying that she needed to commit more dramatically to the source of the conflict by spending even more time on Quora. Finally, she kissed me with a smile. I remember having said something like how in his genius, Bob Flanagan had gotten rid of the power of decision-making by stealing all of the arrows. Turning his curse into something better than any audience when he had raised this army of Saint Sebastien longing for his embrace.
Perhaps questionnaires are the ultimate aporia between words and meaning, they suggest the most imperceptible forces, from moon tides to the incomprehension of decay. They force a collaboration like a hieratic plot, so deceptively arbitrary yet often bearing a scheming motive, that when a question eventually satisfies the curiosity, it induces the rattled wish to have had an entirely different one asked.
Did I only give you love when you were in pain? I don’t know. I was in pain so much of the time.

Introducing my new OC for the ‘Welcome Home Puppet Show,’ Nurse Nancy Knots! 🕷️🕸️❤️
‘“Even in a town full of fun and friendship, accidents happen, and for every stumble and trip-up, Nurse Nancy Knots is there to help fix her neighbors right up! She can stitch or patch up any rip, tear, or stain, and strives to be sensitive to the needs of her fellow Home residents. In her free time, she loves to crochet and sew all kinds of attire for her friends."
Nurse Nancy Knots was a rarely occuring spider with an emphasis on health and wellness. Home Hospital was located at the edge of town, near the forest, and served both as the clinic and Nurse Nancy's residence. When not attending a patient, her skits would consist of a simple but fun arts and crafts. Fun fact: according to discovered books, she designs and creates her own assortment of wigs!’
All credit goes to @partycoffin for Welcome Home and @fetusmeme for the template!

Questions to ask when interviewing for jobs:
What is the expected number of patients per day to see?
How many bookeable patient hours will I be required for a 1.0 FTE?
Do you double book, who controls the schedule template for non-resident physicians?
What is the nearest hospital?
How long are the hospital follow up appointments?
Is there a nurse or coordinator for helping schedule these patients?
Do we have a SW/Case manager?
Does this facility ask for us to do DOT physicals or other non-urgent care/immediate care responsibilities/primary care responsibilities?
How are referrals handled/is there just PCP follow up/is there a PCP office attached to the urgent care/what facility resources are there, lab/imaging/procedure/fracture care?
What is the MA to doctor ratio? Nurses and nurse triage line? Do you do nurse visits?
What is the turnover of Physician/APPs/MA/nurses? How many other providers are there? How many patients are expected for each panel? What procedures are required of me and is there a process for credentialing if I want to start doing a procedure? Is there access to a consultant if needed or what are the specialist accessibility options available? Will you introduce me to specialists? Who will cover/assist with recertifying ACLS/BLS/PALS/ATLS required/offered? When do benefits start ? Overflow: how is that handled? Call? Marketing?
Structure and organization of workflow? What’s the payer mix? Do you see drug reps? What is offered for loan repayment? What is the HPSA score for national health service core? Does this place qualify for PSLF?

Meet My MC (2023 edition)
Tumblr media
Late as usual, but otherwise it wouldn't be me 😂 (and I really didn't want to miss @openheartappreciationweek!). Thinking about doing a new version of Meet my MC just because it's been a really long time since the first one I did. I used the same original base template that @jamespotterthefirst shared forever ago, and I added some extra information.
Full Name: Casey Marie Valentine
Nickname: Besides Ethan calling her "Rookie"? None!
Date of Birth: December 4th
Place of Birth/Hometown: Abingdon, Virginia
Currently lives in: Boston, Massachusetts
Hair: Proud brunette!
Eyes: Green
Parents: Margaret (Maggie) and Thomas (Tom) Valentine
Siblings: Oliver Valentine (her older twin)
Other Relatives: Marie Smith (maternal grandmother); Sean Snith (maternal grandfather)
Love Interest: Ethan Ramsey (husband)
Kids: Three! Gabriella, Simone and Julian
Pets: She inherited her grandma's cat Lola; however, as she couldn't take the cat to Boston with her, her brother takes care of it.
Education: Biology major; Internal medicine / Duke University
Roles over the years: Member of the Diagnostics Team at Edenbrook; head of the Diagnostics Team at Edenbrook; researcher and member of the Diagnostics Team at Edenbrook.
Books: "Paging Dr. Internet", a book inspired on a case she and Tobias solved in her last year of residency. Its main goal was to raise awareness among the medical community and the general population on the dangers of self-diagnosis through Internet searches. She's also been working on a project with Ethan, but it hasn't been released yet.
Personality Traits: Even if she doesn't have trust issues and she doesn't consider herself an introvert, Casey tends to be a very, very private person (she gives Ethan a run for his money) who needs to have her daily alone time to disconnect from the hospital madness. At work, she's a real team player who loves supporting and recognizing her colleagues every time she can. However, when a case gets more complicated than she originally thought, it takes a toll on her mental health. In general, she's someone who forgives, but doesn't forget.
Hobbies: Cooking, reading, listening to music (she hates the fact she's an awful singer and she can't play any instruments because she just adores music).
Curiosity: Despite being twins, she doesn't share her birth date with her brother. Oliver is 10 minutes older than Casey, but he was born before midnight and she was born after midnight.
Casey takes her first name from a variation of her mom’s middle name (Margaret Kacey). She shares her middle name (Marie) with her maternal grandmother.
She doesn’t have any nicknames because grandma Marie HATED them. She always said she had a name for a reason, and that her parents had spent a good amount of time deciding the right name for her.
Her past is as troubled as Ethan's. Her parents died in a car accident when she was 7. After that, the Valentine’s siblings were raised by their grandma Marie, who passed away about a month before Casey began her residency at Edenbrook (her grandpa Sean had passed away when Casey was a baby, he was much, much older than grandma Marie!). So, by the time Casey moved to Boston, it was just she and her brother against the world.
She doesn't keep in touch with her paternal family. After Maggie and Tom's accident, they left town and disappeared of her life. When Casey was in med school, grandma Marie confessed she had tried to reach them several times, but they were no interested in meeting them. So, the twins didn't make any efforts to keep trying to have a relationship with them in their adulthood.
As a teenager, Casey started to realize she had had to grow up too fast after her parents’ accident, so even though she was always surrounded by love, she's always thought she never lived her childhood to the fullest.
She had one of her ovaries removed when she was 16. That's why she actually didn't know if she was going to be able to get pregnant when she and Ethan decided to actually have kids.
Even though Casey had always wanted to become a doctor, she wasn't sure if she was cut for it. Then, she discovered Ethan's book by chance at her local library. She was obsessed with it and started to use it for her own research in the advanced biology class. She got her own copy when grandma Marie gave it to her as a Christmas present. That was the final push to convince her to attend med school.
Casey was really close to give up on her dream of doing her residency at Edenbrook next to Ethan. Her boyfriend at the time was going to move to Los Angeles to try to become a script writer, so she was willing to follow him to do her residency at UCLA.
She claims she didn’t google Ethan during her university years because she didn’t care about him, but only about his book. Then, when she was admitted to Edenbroook, she kept refusing to google him, claiming that “she wanted the knowledge to do all the talking”.
She never thought she was going to stay in Boston after finishing her residency. Her original plan was to move back to her quiet life in Abingdon to work at the local hospital.
She decided not to change her last name after marrying Ethan. It was important for her to keep it because it’s one of the few things she had left from her parents, so it has some great sentimental value. However, she’s not opposed to the idea of taking Ethan’s surname in the future. She knows if she feels ready to take that step, she’ll do it.

I dropped out of X-Men (I used to very much relate to the characters) because we've reached a point where rooting for any of the cast is legit impossible and I can never see them the same way again
The more I found out about the Krakoa situation, the less I liked mutants with the last thing I checked being Dark X-Men because I still care about the Goblin Queen (even if she got turned into a huge idiot in the last event that had her)
We got the reveal in DXM that her embassy, which is ran by demons, has welcomed many mutants from Krakoa before the island fell and while you do have a few villains in there, you also have children running around the place
And all these mutants at the Embassy, children included, are described as Krakoa's unfavored
... For context,
Krakoa welcomed those villains from the very start because they "wanted to be part of mutantkind and improve life for mutants". With the exception of the villains in the government, we never got to see any of the others be involved in or do anything. As it turns out, Krakoa let the rest of them do whatever for 3 years, and since some ended up never changing their ways, it still includes causing chaos amongst mutant civilians without facing any repercussions.
Those children might either be: 1) part of the families that were victims of Krakoa's big housing problem (every mutant had to join the island regardless of those issues being solved) or 2) the very ones resulting from the "Make more mutants" law (a Nightcrawler™ law) as many were abandoned in the jungle by their parents only to be raised in a makeshift orphanage created by the islanders since the Council never bothered building hospitals or any service building for the mutants
In short, part of Krakoa's "unfavored" are: People that were invited to be part of a community but ended up being involved in jack by their own government and people who were brought into the community by obligation/force only to be greeted by nothing and abandoned by it from the get go twice now... Just wtf
Yeah thats the thing, I used to relate to the X-men characters more like you. And watching old media of them I'm like damn this used to be one of my favourite franchises because I kind of forget sometimes just how much I used to love it.
But its so weird how you look back at comics from the late 20th century which you know still have their problems but the lower amount of books of the teams meant there was more consistency you actually had characters not just templates.
I don't have much to add to what you said about Krakoa but that is quite messed up. But in fairness whenever you hear about Krakoa in X-men its very rarely followed by "this was a good storyline" and "I really enjoyed the time the X-men went to Krakoa"

book review: five feet apart by rachael lippincott | 2018
Tumblr media
summary:
can you love someone you can never touch?
stella grant likes to be in control—even though her totally out of control lungs have sent her in and out of the hospital most of her life. at this point, what stella needs to control most is keeping herself away from anyone or anything that might pass along an infection and jeopardize the possibility of a lung transplant. six feet apart. no exceptions.
the only thing will newman wants to be in control of is getting out of this hospital. he couldn’t care less about his treatments, or a fancy new clinical drug trial. soon, he’ll turn eighteen and then he’ll be able to unplug all these machines and actually go see the world, not just its hospitals.
will’s exactly what stella needs to stay away from. if he so much as breathes on stella she could lose her spot on the transplant list. either one of them could die. the only way to stay alive is to stay apart. but suddenly six feet doesn’t feel like safety. it feels like punishment.
what if they could steal back just a little bit of the space their broken lungs have stolen from them? would five feet apart really be so dangerous if it stops their hearts from breaking too?
my opinion:
to begin with, i have a history of getting to know this book. of course, i heard about its existence only after watching the movie. but my hands came to her almost 5 years later, and how many times i stopped by its shelf in stores… it's hard to count.
so here it is! as for the book itself, i was satisfied, i will immediately note a kind of happy ending, which i lacked in the movie and the emotions that i felt myself.
although i won't gloss over the mediocrity of the plot, in terms of the exhaustion of such a theme, the love between ill people, i saw such a thing and later i will tell you. at the same time, none of the characters did not cause me irritation, i empathized with all of them and honestly, with pleasure, watched the development of the book from both sides of will and stella.
the language is lame in places from time to time, and i'm not sure if this was the author's first work, but practice makes perfect, ya know?
now, let's have a look at the next few points:
• as i mentioned above, the book reminds me of something and that is the fault in our stars by john green, and no, i'm not trying to compare them, but these books have a similar underlying theme of doomed love. that why i think i liked five feet apart more, again due to the fact that the beloved characters are alive by the end.
• the book made me cry and that's fine, i understood very well the situation described in the book because i have experienced somethimg like in my live and those feelings and things still terrefy me.
• i think the author went a little overboard when she made stella such a control freak, yes i understand what it was about, but still. control yourself, but not everyone around you, sweetheart.
• i also want to say a word about the parents in this book, i mean we are shown two models of family and they are not the happiest - a single mom and a divorced couple that broke up because of tragedy. honestly, i am very happy with the attitude of the parents towards their children, even though they were the very templates of their types.
• poe's death shocked me, it was not so easy to bear, as stella herself thought that death just follows her around and takes away her beloved ones. in some ways it was comparable to augustus' death in the fault in our stars.
• as i noted earlier, in some places the writing was a bit tempestuous in terms of descriptions, but i haven't encountered this very often and i'm glad i didn't.
so, i want to say that I really enjoyed this book, i think that all the time i waited to read it was worth it. and it brought me some relief because i cried and was able to let my emotions out
my rating:
4/5
Tumblr media
«If i’m going to die, i'd like to actually live first.»
«don’t think about what you’ve lost. think of how much you have to gain. live, stella.»
