May 2024: Kebab Weekend
It might not look like it but this thin line of trees between a highway and a field filled with utility lines is a much needed habitat especially for birds:

Squirrels are sloppy eaters. Squirrel planted sunflower:

Saturday dinner - salad, grilled vegetables with steak, chorizo & shrimp:

The art of imbuing food with smoke flavor on a gas grill. This is a roughly 50/50 mixture of pecan & apple wood. The pecan is strong like hickory, oak & mesquite while the apple is sweet & light. The blend renders a smoke flavor that is balanced like a beautiful katana crafted by a master. The blackened pieces are wood chunks that have seen one or more grillings. The water, with its minute particles of ash, is retained & poured into our compost bins. Nothing is wasted... only transformed:

Maybe we'll get grapes this year:

More squirrel planted sunflowers. Given the effort that my queen & I have put into trying to grow sunflowers in previous years, it is a little annoying that the squirrels managed it by just being sloppy eaters:
Tumblr media
My 3 minute egg timer that I've started using to time when I'm grilling. My queen likes her steak well done. On our gas grill, 16 to 18 minutes produces a well done steak that is still juicy. She says I could teach the cooks at the local steakhouses a thing or two about cooking a well done steak properly:

Sunday dinner. My queen requested more grilled delights. This time the protein was chicken:

I haven’t really seen this anywhere but there’s a 100% chance people have already discovered this but using an hourglass (an actual, physical hourglass off of amazon for like $10-20) makes doing things like reading and writing SO MUCH easier. Now, I don’t know if this is an adhd thing but having something physically there that doesn’t literally have numbers or words but an actual (consistent!) visually progressing system which you work until it’s done is... it’s so good for time management. I would never be able to do this with something like a phone timer. It’s basically just the pomodoro method lol but I don’t think a kitchen timer would work (too mechanical, has numbers (”minutes left”) on it). I’ve used it to clean my room, read, and do autobiographical writing so far (once a day! That’s a first!). Just like the pomodoro method I take little breaks in between. About to finish Brian Jacques’ Redwall because of it (finally chipping away at my booklist! And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie is next)

Currently writing meta on the symbolism of fish water and dreams.
But I was too excited about Carmy's tattoo. I believe it is a Japanese Amberjack (yellowtail), and Hamachi is a young yellowtail.

I believe it's his favorite fish? He introduced the dish to Chef David a year ago; he's also seen juicing blood oranges during his time at Ever. I think he had been planning something with Hamachi for some time. It was his idea before Chef David overshadowed it.
Just goes to show Carmy is going to remember the dish when Sydney tells him it was her favorite meal.

the only LoZ game to cause me minor despair was when I realized that I would not be able to ever finish Majora's Mask bc I simply could not work around the timer mechanic, and that wasn't even a villain or narrative element, I just fucking hated the game mechanic

Bruce once made an offhand comment about how no one wears watches anymore because they all use their phones to tell time
The next day Tim buys a smartwatch
Dick straps the hourglass he got from the dentist onto his wrist
Damian carries a bunch of candlesticks with nails in them and lights one whenever he needs a timer
Jason lugs around two industrial buckets of water to make a water clock
Steph gets an antique pocketwatch but it's carried around by a personal assistant that's coming out of Bruce's budget
Barbara buys a classroom clock and keeps it in her wheelchair pocket
Cass stands in a well-lit area and checks her shadow
Duke unearths a fifty-pound sundial and names it Duke II
Bruce no longer comments on Gen Z
