can you rank the Grammy performances? i was not very impressed by a lot of people.

I got this ask earlier, so I had all day to review all the performances and rank it. (I found performances online because I didn’t watch the Grammys, but I caught some performers during the show)

Janelle Monae: EASILY the best performance of the night! She came and showed tf out! I wish she was a bit stronger with the live vocals, but in terms of a performance and visuals, she dominated.

Cardi B: I was living for her three looks, but her first official solo Grammy performance (last year was with Bruno), she KILLED IT! You can tell she put a lot of preparation into this performance and I’m proud of her.

Brandi Carlile: She made me pay attention to her and that’s SO RARE for me if you’re not Bey. She intrigued the hell out of me due to her vocals and lyrics of “The Joke”. I plan to listen to her entire discography. Great job!

Chloe x Halle: All I can say is they had the BEST VOCAL MOMENT OF THE NIGHT! It is very evident that Bey is mentoring tf out of them. The reason they are fourth is because four is iconic to Bey and I kinda wanted their performance to be longer. I also wanted them to perform their own songs, but I’ll gladly take this moment. Now everyone knows they have vocals!

Alicia Keys Medley: The younger generation didn’t know Alicia Keys is THAT GIRL on the piano with 15 Grammys under her belt. She proved that she is a FORCE. The transitions with the songs were so smooth and she sang them with ease.

St. Vincent & Dua Lipa: Hardly any of my friends like St. Vincent; and now even more people are in love with 2x Grammy winner Dua Lipa. Their mash up of their hit songs blended so well and had undeniable chemistry while on stage. I like them both.

H.E.R.: While typing this, I actually bumped her up because she was really solid in her performance. I wanted her to perform a different song; however, she impressed me with her vocals, and even shocked me with her wins!

Aretha Franklin Tribute (Andra Day, Fantasia, Yolanda Adams): WOW they had a lot of vocals, which was expected. I do think they were appropriate to do an Aretha Franklin Tribute; however, it was FAR too short to even be considered a tribute, and you didn’t need all three of them doing one song…

Dan + Shay: I like their song Tequila, but this performance was rather underwhelming in terms of the entire show. The only memorable thing about their performance was the note he hit at the end… but less was more because it was too much.

Lady Gaga: I thought this was a very intense performance and I didn’t understand it. It was more Gaga than her character, Ally. I wish she transitioned into something else with that much energy because it felt like she was over singing and trying too hard at times. Good effort.

Diana Ross: I LOVE her ensemble! The reason she is so low on this list is because she REALLY didn’t get a lot of screen time to actually show what she is capable of. It felt like she was promoting Diamond Diana and having everyone wish this stunning diva an early birthday, rather than performing.

Kacey Musgraves: If I’m being honest, I only remember saying I liked her dress. It was a nice dress, and she sounded great, but this performance was just SO underwhelming from someone who literally swept the Grammys with FOUR wins, INCLUDING AOTY. I wanted a lot more.

Dolly Parton Tribute (Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves, Miley Cyrus, Maren Moris, Little Big Town): I don’t know why Katy Perry was there to be quite honest??? She felt out of place to me. I felt Kacey Musgraves trying to help Katy more than them doing a tribute, so I would’ve dropped both of them, especially considering Dolly Parton walked right on out after them and blew them away vocally and had more presence than both of them combined. Miley can sing REALLY well, and she held her own tbh. When Little Big Town came out, I told my sister “THAT is how you do curly hair! Take that Post Malone!”. Anyway, Dolly could’ve done this tribute by herself, or with the company of Miley Cyrus. Everyone else really took a backseat.

Shawn Mendes & Miley Cyrus: I’m SO tired of that In My Blood song and the remix was just entirely unnecessary. It’s the same arrangement and performance over and over again. One thing I hate about artists is when they get too comfortable with one sound. You gotta know how and when to change it up. Also, he has other songs??? Why did he go back to In My Blood??? Thank you next.

Post Malone & Red Hot Chili Peppers: I was pleasantly shocked with his vocals in the beginning, but then everything turned sour FAST. I don’t know how or why the Grammys decided to put them together when they didn’t even perform together… They just shared the same stage. It was just a mess.

Camila Cabello: She didn’t have the worst performance of the night, and she was FAR from the best. God knows everybody was TIRED of that damn song. Every time someone joined her, I was like ok is this over yet? it is? good.

Travis Scott: EASILY the worst male performance of the night. I did not care for it at ALL. When he started performing, I couldn’t even hear him properly. Then the ambush happened around the stage (it was planned so don’t worry), which reduced his visibility and vocals even more. It was sloppy and poorly executed.

Jennifer Lopez (Motown Tribute): Oh my GOD This was BEYOND terrible. Whoever said “let’s have a Motown tribute and invite JENNIFER LOPEZ to do it” needs to have a serious mental check. There are people I can think of who could do a significantly better MOTOWN tribute. It felt like this was a Jennifer Lopez performance at a Las Vegas residency as opposed to a legitimate Motown tribute. I was WILDLY disappointed. We know she’s a great performer, but this was not the time to be “J Lo”. I don’t want her to do another tribute ever again, unless it is for Selena, which she portrayed damn near perfectly.

I'm dying laughing at the CEO of the Recording Academy trying to cover his ass cause he knew he made a mistake all while questioning if Harry's reached a "level of excellence to merit a nomination." But gave the Chainsmokers and Meghan fucking Trainor a Grammy. Where was the excellence from them? The Chainsmokers song was played at Frat parties and dirty basement, is that's excellence then I don't want Harry to reach that point.
