bug and i have been tormenting ourselves watching hasbin hostel (pirating it ok) and unfortunately i have to admit i can appreciate some of the enjoyable ish qualities about it. lol

moments have made me laugh but usually not for the intended reasons. if you can get past the art style it has some watchable moments with half decent animation. unfortunately everyone working on it has Profoundly and Critically Unserious About Serious Things Disease. also i thought it was way longer than it actually is. every half interesting plot point or character thread is resolved in 3 minutes or just dropped.

you can really really really taste the Direct influence of homestuck and that is one of the biggest reasons it sucks ass. the fans are all doing that thing where they receive a few character details that illustrate a characature of some sort, and fill in the rest with their favorite tropes. at least homestuck had some actually multifaceted characters and worldbuilding

and homestuck had toby fox.

What exactly happens in homestuck?

not saying the entire thing, or even close to it. no everything that i know and remember by heart is under the cut. PLEASE keep in mind that i have read the webcomic, homestuck 2, and the epilogues several times, watched pesterquest and friendsim, and was enough of a fan of the webcomic that I bought the first edition of the physical book (i can share proof later but i dont have it on me rn)

everything is under the cut as it can potentially be upsetting.

lots of gay jokes (that were apologized for in-character but hussie never directly adressed)

vriska, a well-known and much-beloved character, paralyzed another character from the neck down in a botched attempt to kill him. for the rest of the series, she constantly calls him a cripple, physically forces him out of his wheelchair and drags him up several flights of stairs, and otherwise makes fun of him for the disability she caused

vriska more or less sexually assaults tavros, forcing him to kiss her and then calling him evil basically

vriska, in dead ghost 16 year old form, is chased by andrew hussie, the creator of the webcomic, who was an adult at the time. this is a gag throughout the "everyone is dead" section of the webcomic.

the r-slur was said reportedly over 80 times in-character, and several years after the webcomic was created, andrew hussie went back and said it THREE MORE TIMES OUT OF CHARACTER in the official homestuck comic book. i know this because i bought it forgetting about the scene where the r-slur is stated originally, read it, and saw the author's note.

the condescendencnende, the Big Bad, speaks aave and has large red (pink) lips on her entirely black silhouette.

this is canon art of her, shown in the webcomic. apparently. i cant find the page because im not reading homestuck again, but it is displayed on the wiki as official art.

additionally, while potentially not written by andrewhussie, both the epilogues and homestuck 2 have a "gag" where a character, jade harley, who was 'initially' a cis woman before fusing with her dead dog, has a 'dog dick', is incredibly overly sexual with everyone, impregnated one of her friends and named the child "YIFFY"...

idont give a god damn if you like homestuck. all i know is that this is all true (if a tad paraphrased) and every single homestuck liker i've met ended up being a genuine, literal, actual, irl, no joke, neo-nazi, or was okay with the actual literal genuine etc. german neo-nazi . ok bye!!!
