The thing that gets to me the most about OceanGate (and there’s many), but... the fact that it’s the fucking Titanic. Like, this could’ve been just a generic failure. This could’ve been about allowing people with more money than sense to go explore the sea floor, see coral reefs from a new perspective, view icebergs from below, whatever.
But no. It’s specifically the Titanic. The ship declared to be unsinkable. The ship whose builders refused to bring enough lifeboats, because it would compromise their aesthetics, and make their rich customers uncomfortable to see them. Which famously sank on its maiden voyage.
And here comes the OceanGate CEO and without a hint of irony, has gone on record saying shit like this:
You know, there’s a limit. You know, at some point, safety just is pure waste. I mean, if you just want to be safe, don’t get out of bed. Don’t get in your car. Don’t do anything. At some point, you’re going to take some risk, and it really is a risk/reward question. I think I can do this just as safely by breaking the rules
And just... if you were writing a story to explore the hubris of rich people, how much more on the nose than that could you get?

i was just thinking, when alecto says that annabeth was the pride of Athena's offspring and perhaps the most formidable demigod child alive... she was playing into Annabeth's fatal flaw.
Pride. Hubris.
if Annabeth had taken that in, and gotten a big head about it, it could've been her downfall.

Seeing Blue narrowly fend off the ninjas, Red is feeling confident she will prevail in her first match... maybe a little too confident?

wanted to doodle more orbs and figured I'd adapt one of the fun sequences of events from my recent group cosplay, whereupon @nymphofnovels may or may not have become briefly (and accidentally!!) impaled on my prop weapon

Okay there's so many tiny tiny perc'ahlia moments in the early episodes that I never knew about??
Like they're not romantic per se, but because Percy and Vex are the ranged fighters they're constantly exchanging strategy info and making little comments about each other's skills
Their little "race you for it!" exchange before Vex takes out the temple trap with her (frankly stunning) ceiling shot
Now Percy's little "That's so clever. Clever girl." comment about Vex doing her ranger thing in front of the Slayer's Take like!!!
And the arrows, obviously!! But he makes arrows damn near every time he tinkers 👀👀. If the arrows are flirting this is not very subtle Percy!
AAAH I LOVE THEIR WHOLE DYNAMIC even from the very beginning!

According to the 19th rhapsody/book of Odyssey, Odysseus's grandfather Autolycus named his grandson "Odysseus" because he was angry and the entire world (coming from the verb "οδύσσομαι" which means "be angry at")
As it happens with many Greek myths, the name is a self-fulfilled prophecy since Odysseus attracted plenty of anger in his life from the Trojans whose city practically singlehandedly he sacked, Aias the Telamon (aka Ajax the Great) for he defeated him in a battle taking Achilles's armor as a price till the anger of Polyphemus and Poseidon which pretty much sealed his fate and doomed him to wander about the seas for more than 10 years.
However the name is also extremely symbolic given that Odysseus's anger was the reason he committed hubris and bragged his winning against Polyphemus becoming the literal plot starter of Odyssey.
It also means something else; Odysseus in his anger says "I am Odysseus" to Polyphemus. You may also say that he also indirectly said "I am furious"

obviously you must think that this character in some way possesses the character trait of hubris. how you interpret this is up to you. have fun with it yall.

if a roleplay character has the same name as their player, they're disqualified (ie, no dsmp, i have nothing against yall it just makes me personally a little uncomfortable)

Those who know what they want generally want trifles, and attain to inglorious ends: riches, fame, or at the best, progress or a philosophy of their own. Even now it is sometimes not a sin to laugh at such wonders, and maybe the time is coming when a rehabilitated Hamlet will announce, not with shame but with pride: "I don't in the least know what I want." And the crowd will applaud him, for the crowd always applauds heroes and proud men.
