read my full review of asap by axie oh here.
New York Times bestselling author Axie Oh’s ASAP is the much anticipated companion novel to beloved romance XOXO, following fan favorites Sori, the wealthy daughter of a K-pop company owner, and Nathaniel, her K-pop star ex-boyfriend, in a swoon-worthy second chance love story.
Sori has worked her whole life to become a K-pop idol, until she realizes she doesn’t want a life forever in the spotlight. But that’s not actually up to Sori—she’s caught between her exacting mother’s entertainment company and her father’s presidential aspirations. And as the pressure to keep her flawless public image grows, the last person she should be thinking about is her ex-boyfriend.
Nathaniel is off limits—she knows this. A member of one of the biggest K-pop bands in the world and forbidden from dating, he isn’t any more of an option now than he was two years ago. Still, she can’t forget that their whirlwind romance was the last time she remembers being really happy. Or that his family welcomed her into their home when she needed it most. . . .
So when Nathaniel finds himself rocked by scandal, Sori offers him a hideaway with her. And back in close quarters, it’s hard to deny their old feelings. But when Sori gets an opportunity to break free from her parent’s expectations, she will have to decide: Is her future worth sacrificing for a second chance at love?
my review:
We have all been awaiting a companion novel to XOXO with Sori and Nathaniel, and I genuinely screamed when we got the official announcement! I knew this book had the Potential because I loved the two of them in the first book and couldn’t wait to see more of them. Sweet and heartwarming, ASAP takes a bold chance on first love (again) and new dreams.
Sori has been training her entire life to debut, but recently, she’s realized that being and idol is no longer the path she wants to take. However, she’s still somewhat in the spotlight, with the weight of her parents’ expectations. She strikes a deal with her mother to let her pursue whatever she wants in exchange for mentoring Hyemi, a new trainee who’s set to debut in a new group called ASAP in two weeks. Meanwhile, she keeps crossing paths with Nathaniel, her ex-boyfriend and now-member of one of the biggest K-pop groups in the world. When he needs a place to get away from the paparazzi, she offers him her house and as they spend more time together, old feelings begin to arise.
I loved Sori’s character arc throughout this book! She’s struggling under both of her parents’ expectations, with her mother being her company’s CEO and her father running a presidential campaign. She no longer wants to debut and have to have her life be so public, but she still loves the thrill of dancing and singing and doesn’t fully want to let her mother down. As she helps Hyemi prepare to debut, she finds herself enjoying being a mentor. I also liked seeing her relationship with her mother progress throughout the story. Her mother has always wanted what was best for her, and Sori wants to return her love by helping her company in any way she can.

rina sprang up from her bed, eager to get ready to see hao. she may or may not have hastily stuffed everything in sight into her closet to create the illusion of cleanliness. when he said "asap," he meant it. in the midst of fixing her hair in front of the mirror, the doorbell buzzed.
"who is it?" she teased.
through the peephole, she could see his amused expression. "vogue 73 questions."
the moment she opened the door she yanked him in roughly.
“are you trying to dislocate my shoulder?” he pouted.
“my neighbor is on the balcony.” she closed the door behind him.
“you’re acting like i’m beyonce. i promise you the grandma living next to you has not a clue who i am.” he plopped on her couch, laying out the breakfast on the coffee table.
the two shared a meal while binge watching dramas. "watching" might not be the most accurate term; they chatted incessantly, offering commentary on every single scene. they were the kind of people you should never go to the movies with—they'd talk your ears off, sounding more like characters themselves than the ones on screen.
as they progressed through the episodes, they found themselves gradually edging closer on the couch. each thought they were slyly shifting a millimeter every ten seconds. eventually, they both scooted over at the same time, resulting in them turning to each other and bursting into laughter at their synchronized stupidity.
“you thought you were slick,” rina laughed at hao’s shocked face.
“me? you were doing the same thing!” he poked her side.
he gave in to his wants and snaked his arm around her, snuggling into the crook of her neck. even peppering faint, feathery kisses on her collarbone.
“hao, are you trying to put me into cardiac arrest?” rina whined.
as his kisses ventured lower, rina’s doorbell buzzed unexpectedly. they looked at each other confused as she wasn’t expecting anyone.
peering through the peephole, she was met with haemin and hyemi waving at her. she quickly turned to how and signaled him to go hide in her room. she opened the door just enough for her to stick her head out, “can i help you?”
haemin pushed the door open, “i thought we could all hang out.” she looked like she was looking for something, more specifically someone.
rina watched them make their way to the couch and tried to sneakily kick hao’s shoes out of sight.
“big breakfast?” hyemi snarked.
“can you guys come another time? i’m planning to go out right now.” rina knew she shouldn’t piss them off given what they know about her.
“where? can we tag along?”
haemin was almost a whole new person—someone that was one the sweetest best friend rina could ask for turned into somewhat of a mean girl. it was totally out of her character. it truly doesn’t take much for a friendship to turn sour.
“okay, i’m not going anywhere. what is this about?”
“is there a reason you don’t want us here?” haemin tilted her head with a mocking tone evident in her voice.
“what do you want from me. we all know what this is about; let’s not play dumb.”
“i have a deal for you,” hyemi walked closer to rina “get me jebewon’s phone numbers and address, and i won’t spill the beans about your little relationship.”
rina looked at the girls incredulously. she knew they had bad intentions but this crossed so many lines. haemin was always a big fan of idols, but never displayed sasaeng behaviors. this revelation was a punch to the gut for rina. it always hurts when someone you know so well proves that you didn’t know their true nature
“you don’t even have proof of anything.” she forced out a nervous chuckle.
“you think we don’t know about your park dates? could you be any sloppier?” an insulting tone laced in haemin’s words. “i know he’s in your room, you are so predictable, rina.”
“what would you even do with the phone numbers and address? they could easily change their numbers, and they have security.”
“we could sell information on them,” hyemi chimed in “it’s your choice, you wouldn’t want to see your baby boy get hate, would you?”
“text me your decision, or we’ll do what we have to do.” haemin said before the two finally left.
rina walked over to her room to see hao fast asleep on her bed, she could’ve sworn they only talked for five minutes. she sat next to him and smiled at his cute expression—eyebrows furrowed his lips slightly parted. however, her smile faded once she realized the choice she had to make. how could she possibly win in that situation? she knew the difficulties that would come with dating an idol, but she didn’t know those difficulties would arise from her supposed best friend.
she looked out her windows and doors to see if haemin and hyemi were watching her. she wouldn’t put it past them to do a stakeout for blackmail.
should we just stop seeing each other? she thought to herself. she didn’t want it to come to this, but she felt a great sense of guilt. dating scandals can very well ruin images. she didn’t want to be a source of stress and trouble for him and his group. all these thoughts caused tears to well up in her eyes and soon stream down her face. she didn’t want to lose him, but she didn’t want to hurt his livelihood. i can’t tell him about this.

sorry i haven't posted in like a minute, i've been working on the fic i poses the prologue for! just finished chapter one and the first half of chapter two. but since i know you guys are curious (and to thank you for your patience) here's the first half of the first chapter! thanks for your patience 💕
Nayeon wasn't as sad as she thought she would be.
As she stared at the blurry landscape of the Korean countryside, she thought about what she was doing. What it meant. Why she was doing it. And surprisingly, sadness wasn't the emotion coming to mind. Anger, fear, anxiety, those gnawed on Nayeon, but sadness? That was far from her mind.
Hyemi was asleep next to her, her summer reading book laying half open in her lap as the world zipped past them. A quick glance to the other two occupants of the train cabin showed they were in similar states.
“Mm… Are we there yet?” Nayeon giggled at Sana’s bed head as she sat up.
“Should be about an hour from here.” Nayeon nodded.
“So long.” Sana groaned. “We’ve already been here forever.”
“It's only been a couple hours.” Nayeon giggled.
“Why did Jeongyeon decide to move to the middle of nowhere again?” Sana whined.
“To get in touch with her roots or something.” Nayeon shrugged. “Who knows, but I kind of like the remoteness.”
“It's annoying.” Sana rolled her eyes.
“I’ll tell her you said that.” Nayeon laughed as Sana dramatically yawned. “You can go back to sleep.”
“I probably will.” Sana nodded. “You should get some rest too Nayeon Unnie.”
“It's okay.” Nayeon shrugged. “I’m not tired.”
“Are you sure? I can stay up to make sure we don't miss our stop.”
“It’s okay.” Nayeon shrugged. “Get some sleep. I can rest when we get to the new house.”
“Okay.” Sana muttered, wrapping her arms around her sleeping child as she fell asleep. Nico looked healthier than Nayeon remembered her being, and she was happy the doctors had cleared her to make the journey.
Nayeon sighed as she saw the way Nico was clinging to her stuffed polar bear for dear life. The argument Sana and Momo had that morning was nasty, Nayeon felt bad the kid had to witness it. (She had really hoped they would have a smooth journey out of Seoul, but looking back she knew that was wishful thinking).
“Mommy?” Nayeon was pulled out of the thought when Hyemi muttered her name. Hyemi looked upset, and Nayeon knew whatever she asked next wasn't going to be easy to answer.
“Yes baby?”
“Are you mad at Mama?” Hyemi looked up at Nayeon, a painfully serious look on her face. Nayeon wanted to lie to her daughter, to hide the ugly truth, to protect her daughter’s fragile innocence. But Hyemi already knew more than Nayeon would ever want her too.
“I am.” Nayeon sighed, exhaling sharply as the world flew past her. “But it doesn't concern you okay Hye? You did nothing wrong.” Hyemi nodded, closing her book and glancing out the window.
No more words were exchanged in the train car.
xx
Nayeon had known Yoo Jeongyeon for what felt like her entire life. They didn't actually meet until college, but the way that Jeongyeon so seamlessly integrated herself into Nayeon’s life made it feel like they had been friends forever.
Jeongyeon was never a super emotional person. She was strong, and stoic, and was always a silent presence when Nayeon needed it. She was protective and reliable and Nayeon didn't know where her life would be without her. But, despite this, Nayeon could count on one hand the number of times they had hugged each other. Hugs, and physical touch in general, weren't Jeongyeon’s thing. If Nayeon was upset, Jeongyeon was the type to hunt down whoever or whatever made her sad. She was the problem solver, the logical one who always found solutions to Nayeon’s problems when she herself couldn't. But Nayeon knew there was no way Jeongyeon could solve her current problem.
So she doesn't try. Instead, the first thing she does when she sees Nayeon is wrap her arms around her, kiss her forehead, and whisper an “I’m sorry.” Nayeon feels herself thrown for a loop with the unexpected behavior.
“Hi Jeongie.” Jeongyeon didn't pull away from Nayeon until she head Sana, and Nayeon watched as she proceeded to give Sana the same treatment.
“Auntie Jeongyeon!” Hyemi interrupted their quiet moment with her loud screams, a grin on her face as she tackles Jeongyeon in a hug.
“Hey Hyemi!” Jeongyeon smiled. “Oh, and hello Miss Nico.” Nico had run to Sana, shyly hiding behind her mother as Jeongyeon grinned at her.
“Nico, can you say hi?” Sana gently laid a hand on Nico’s back, coaxing her out as softly as possible. Nayeon had heard Nico had gotten really shy during her hospital stay. She had no idea it was that bad.
“Hi.” Nico muttered, clinging to Sana for dear life. Jeongyeon didn't seem offended, instead she ruffled Hyemi’s hair and commented on how much bigger she had gotten.
Hyemi steals Jeongyeon’s attention as they walk to the car. Sana’s sole focus seems to be her timid daughter, and Nayeon is left lugging more luggage than she thought was possible.
Hyemi’s excitement fades quickly.
“And there’s where you will be going to school, Hyemi.” Jeongyeon had commented as they whizzed past an old looking school building. Hyemi’s face immediately scrunched up at the comment.
“I don't want to go to school there.” Hyemi pouted. Nayeon sighed, knowing what was about to come. “I already have a school.”
“Hyemi, I’m sorry kiddo, but you're going to school, okay?” Hyemi grumbled in response.
“All my friends are at my old school mommy.” Hyemi pouted. “I don't want to go there.”
“You can make some new friends, sunshine.” Nayeon offered.
“I don't want to.”
“Hyemi-ah my nephew goes to school there.” Nayeon couldn't be more thankful to Jeongyeon for joining the conversation. “You can meet him later, then you will have a friend there.” Hyemi falls silent, looking out the window.
When they finally arrive at their new home, it all finally sinks in. Nayeon had really left Seoul. She was really here, in the countryside with Hyemi and Sana and Nico. To stay. The thought made her beyond anxious.
“It's big.” Hyemi commented as she looked around their new front yard.
“It's not all ours.” Nayeon muttered.
“See that over there?” Jeongyeon pointed to the lines of crops to the left of the house. “That's a farm my family owns.”
“So what do you grow?”
“All kinds of stuff.” Jeongyeon giggled. “Vegetables, fruit, lots of variety.”
“I don't like vegetables.” Hyemi complained.
“You will when you taste mine. They are so much better than anything you could eat in the city.” Jeongyeon laughed, unlocking the front door. The house was old, and looked like it hadn't been used in years. It was in need of a serious cleaning, and Nayeon already felt a bit overwhelmed with the task.
“It's cute.” Sana smiled at Jeongyeon.
“I know it's a bit messy, but I tried to put all the stuff you sent in here.” Jeongyeon gestured to the mess of boxes. “Sorry about the decor.”
“It's okay.” Sana giggled. “I’m getting some stuff shipped from Seoul. In the meantime, it looks like we have everything we need.”
“I checked to make sure all the water is working and washed all the sheets and stuff. I know it's still a little dusty, but it's not dangerous or anything.” Jeongyeon glanced at Nico, who seemed to be hiding in Sana’s arms.
“Thanks Jeongyeon.” Nayeon let out as genuine of a smile as she could. If it looked fake, Jeongyeon didn't comment on it.
“Of course Unnie.” Jeongyeon nodded. “I have to go to an appointment, but I’ll come back when I’m done to help clean.”
“You don’t have to Jeongyeon.” Sana nodded, putting Nico down slowly. “We can take care of it, thank you so much already for everything you have done for us.”
“Nah, don’t worry about it. Nayeon has never seen a duster before in her life, trust me when I say you need me.” Jeongyeon giggled as Nayeon playfully shoved her arm.
“Jerk.” Nayeon pouted.
“Anyway, I’ll be back around 4? My sister wanted you guys to come to the main house for dinner, so we can walk over together.” Jeongyeon nodded. “See you guys in a bit?”
“Sure, thank you Jeongyeon.” Nayeon waved to her friend as Jeongyeon left.
Nayeon took one long look around what was supposed to be the living room. It was covered in dust and the furniture looked like it hadn’t been updated in decades. The windows looked like they barely opened anymore and the floors were creaky as Nayeon carefully made her way around the mountains of boxes. It wasn’t perfect, far from it, but it was home. Nayeon couldn’t help the rush of emotions that flowed through her at the realization.
xx
Sana didn’t expect their plans to work out. Sure, she agreed with Nayeon getting out of Seoul, at least temporarily, would be a great idea. But, she didn’t actually think her daughter’s doctors would ever agree to it.
Sana was more than a bit surprised when Nico’s doctor approached her to say that Momo had agreed to the stem cell treatment. Momo herself hadn’t said anything to Sana (though that was probably for the best, all things considered), but Sana was just happy Momo had come around. There was a lot of prep work involved in the procedure, and they were warned finding a matching donor could be a lengthy process, so it was questionable when, or if, she could get the surgery. When Sana asked if she could take her daughter to the countryside with her, she was surprised to hear that the doctor thought it was a good idea. She had told Sana that it was probably for the best that Nico relaxes as much as possible before the procedure, and that she would benefit from being away from the smog and germs of Seoul. She had even agreed that if Nico kept up with regular doctor visits, and her pain wasn’t too bad, she could stay at home. Sana was elated at the idea of having her daughter back home with her, and after some coordination with Nayeon and Jeongyeon, they had found a specialist for Nico to see in their new town.
Sana was surprised it had all worked out so well. She was fully prepared for the very real possibility of having to pick between leaving the place that had broken her or staying with the only thing keeping her from losing her mind. She was happy she could have both.
Nico had been given new medicine to help manage her pain, and Sana was so happy that it seemed to be working. Nico didn't deserve the pain that came with her condition.
“Mommy?” Sana stopped what she was doing when she heard her daughter’s voice.
“What’s up Nico-chan?” Sana asked, carefulling climbing off the ladder she was on to properly face her daughter.
“Hurts.” Nico whined, sitting down on the floor.
“What hurts?”
“My knees.”
“I’m sorry baby.” Joint pain was common with Nico’s condition, and even with her improvement she would get occasional aches. “Why don’t I take you up to lay down?” Sana put the duster she was holding down to offer Nico one of her hands. Nico whined and curled up in a ball on the floor.
“Hurts too much to stand.” Nico pouted.
“Here.” Sana bent down and picked her daughter up. “Better?”
“Mm.” Nico buried her face in Sana’s shirt.
“Oh no, did I lose a helper already?” Nayeon giggled from where she was scrubbing the floors. They had been able to put Hyemi to work cleaning with the promise of fried chicken for dinner, and while Nico had tried to help as well, there wasn’t much a four and a half year old could do.
“I’m going to take her up to lay down. She’s having some joint pain.” Sana explained.
“Oh, I’m sorry Nico.” Nico just curled closer to Sana.
“The girls room is the first one up the stairs, right?” Sana asked.
“Uh-hum.” Nayeon hummed, getting back to work as Hyemi “unpacked” various boxes. Most of her unpacking consisted of throwing things into piles on the floors, but it was better than nothing.
Sana carefully ascended the creepy stairs, trying to keep Nico as still in her arms as possible.
“Mommy?”
“Hm?”
“I like it here.” Nico muttered.
“We’ve only been here for a few hours.” Sana giggled.
“It's nice. It's not scary.” Sana felt her heart ache a little bit at the admission. The thought of the countless nights Nico had spent in a lifeless hospital room with loud machines all alone made Sana feel like her daughter had needed to escape just as much as she did.
“That's good.” Sana kissed Nico's forehead. “I hope you never have to go back to that scary place ever again.” But Sana knew that was wishful thinking.
xx
“Wow, it's surprisingly clean in here.” Nayeon rolled her eyes as Jeongyeon entered the house.
“No thanks to you.”
“Hey, I let you live in my guesthouse out of the goodness of my own heart, I dragged your shi-your crap-”
“Still not a word you should be saying around the kid Yoo.”
“In here for free! Yeah and it was so heavy. I deserve compensation.”
“I’ll buy you pizza.”
“I’ll hold you to that Nayeon.” Jeongyeon laughed as she picked up Sana’s abandoned duster. “Where’s Sana?”
“With Nico. She was having some pain.” Nayeon hummed.
“Oh. Do you think she will feel well enough for dinner?”
“Good question, ask Sana.” Nayeon muttered as she reached into a crevice.
“Mommy my arms are tired.” Hyemi whined, slumping down in the middle of her pile of unpacked stuff.
“Why don’t we take a break?”
“You haven’t done anything.” Nayeon rolled her eyes.
“Well, my sister and her wife should be home, and they wanted to meet you guys, and there’s no time like the present right?”
“Well…”
Please mom? Pretty please?”
“Fine.” Nayeon sighed. “I’ll go get Sana.”
“Yay!” Nayeon rolled her eyes as she went up the stairs. She was surprised to find it less dusty than the downstairs, it made the entire task of cleaning feel less daunting. She finds Sana curled up with Nico in the lower bunk of a bunk bed. Nico had a pair of headphones on, her attention captured by Sana’s phone.
“Mm… Sorry Nayeon Unnie, I think I lost track of time.” Sana giggled when she noticed Nayeon. Nico was sprawled across Sana’s lap, Sana’s hand gently combing through her hair.
“It’s okay.” Nayeon nodded. “It’s clean in here.”
“I know. Wish I could take credit.” Sana giggled. “It was already nice and clean in here when I got here. I think Jeongyeon cleaned it for Nico.”
“I think you're right. The furniture in here seems newer too.”
“I was going to ask her about it. Nico was really excited when she saw the bunk beds,” Sana giggled. “Hope Hyemi is okay with the top bunk.”
“She will be thrilled.” Nayeon laughed. “It will lessen the blow of me telling her she’s sharing a room.”
“You still haven’t told her?”
“To be fair, whenever you or I have mentioned it she hasn’t been paying attention.” Nayeon shrugged. “Anyway, Jeong wants us to go meet her sister. We’ll probably get some dinner while we are out. Are you two going to come?”
“Let me check.” Sana gently tapped Nico’s shoulder, moving the headphones off her daughter’s ears. “How are you feeling sweetie?”
“A little better.” Nico answered.
“We were going to meet Aunt Jeongyeon’s sister and get some food, do you think you would be okay if we come?”
“Okay.” Nico nodded, taking her headphones off and handing Sana her phone back. She immediately held her arms out to be picked up. Sana giggled and complied, kissing Nico’s forehead as she pocketed her phone.
“You're so cute.” Sana muttered. “I love you so much.”
“Love you too mommy.” Nico smiled, giving Sana a kiss on the cheek in return.
“So adorable. You're so perfect Nico-chan.” Sana looked up from the little scene to see Nayeon staring at them with a smile.”What?”
“I’m just happy your home, Nico.” Nayeon smiled.
“Me too.”
xx
Nayeon sighed as she picked at her nails. It was her nervous habit of her’s, one she had thought she had given up years ago, but she had a lot of reason to be anxious lately.
“Nayeon, Sana, this is my sister Chaeyoung and her wife, Tzuyu.” Nayeon noticed the way Nico curled in on Sana.
“Hey, it’s nice to finally meet you!” Jeongyeon had told her about Chaeyoung before, a lot actually, but Nayeon had never actually met her friend’s sister. She was surprised how short she was.
“Yeah, it’s nice to meet you too.” Nayeon muttered.
“Hi, I’m Sana! This little shy thing is my daughter, Nico.” Sana giggled.
“I’m Hyemi!” Hyemi blurted out.
“Hi Hyemi.” Chaeyoung bent down to Hyemi’s height. “My son should be coming down in a second, you two will be going to school together.” Hyemi got quiet at the comment. Nayeon sighed, she knew her daughter was still going to be upset about their earlier conversation.
“How old are you Hyemi?” Chaeyoung’s wife joined in on the conversation. Nayeon could tell they had both picked up on her daughter’s hesitance.
“I’m seven, but I’ll be eight in August.” Hyemi grinned, but it quickly melted into a frown. Nayeon’s heart broke when Hyemi looked like she was about to cry.
“Mom!” The conversation was interrupted by a boy’s voice. Nayeon laid a comforting hand on Hyemi’s shoulder, trying her best to reassure her daughter. She had an idea of what brought on the sudden sadness.
“There he is now, this is my son Seojun.” A little boy, no older than nine came bounding down the stairs. Nayeon’s first thought was that he looked too old to be the young looking woman in front of her son.
“Hyemi, this is Seojun.” Chaeyoung introduced.
“Hi.” Seojun muttered, instantly attaching himself to Chaeyoung’s side.
“Hi.” Hyemi sniffled, forcing her tears back as she addressed the little boy. “I’m Hyemi.”
“Seojun.”
“You two are going to be in the same grade at school.” Jeongyeon told the two. “Seojun I hope you will look out for Hyemi as she gets accustomed to the new school.”
“Okay.” Seojun nodded. “Mom?”
“What’s up?”
“What are we having for dinner?”
“We were thinking of getting some pizza from that place down the street-”
“Daeun’s?!”
“Yup.” Chaeyoung smiled. “And you can order whatever you want. Aunt Jeongyeon is paying.”
“What?” Jeongyeon whined.
“You owe me.” Chaeyoung giggled.
“Well Nayeon Unnie owes me, so Nayeon Unnie is paying.” Jeongyeon asserted.
“Fine, fine.” Nayeon rolled her eyes.
“Hear that Seojun? Hyemi? Order whatever you want.”
“Shut up Yoo.” Nayeon had a smile on her face as she said it.
xx
“So you're from the city?” Hyemi nodded as she watched Seojun play galaga. Their parents had given them some money when they got the restaurant. Hyemi had already had her turn, but it didn't last very long. She wasn’t very good at video games.
“Uh-hum.” Hyemi nodded.
“What’s it like?” Seojun asked.
“It’s…” Hyemi trailed off. “It’s loud. People are always loud, the trains are super loud. And there's stuff everywhere. People, buildings, trash. It doesn't seem like there's any of that here. Plus, the air feels different.”
“Different?”
“I don’t know how to explain it, but out here, breathing feels a little easier.” Hyemi shrugged.
“I’ve been here my whole life.” Seojun commented, aggressively pressing the button on the game. “I hate it here. It's so boring. I’ve always wanted to go to the city. My mom lives there.”
“What are you talking about? Your mom lives here, with Aunt Jeongyeon right?”
“My real mom.” Seojun and Byemi both watched as his ship was shot for the final time, pixelated explosions filling the screen . “The person you met is technically my aunt.”
“That sounds confusing.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, if you have another mom that's not your mom or mama, what do you call her?”
“I don’t call her anything.” Seojun shrugged, moving so Hyemi could have a turn at the game.”I haven’t seen her in years.”
“Oh.” Hyemi slid another coin into the game, starting it up.
“Why did you move here anyway?” Seojun leaned against the game next to Galaga as Hyemi started shooting at the monsters.
“I…” Hyemi trailed off. Tears started to blur her vision, her hands started to shake as her thoughts ran rampant. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
“What? Come on, you can tell me. We’re supposed to be friends, right?”
“I-”
“Kids! Food!” Hyemi happily abandoned her game at her mother’s voice. She quickly ran back to the table her parents were at, taking her seat next to Nico.
“Hyemi Unnie!”
“What?” Hyemi had always liked Nico. She was cute, and she didn’t mind when Hyemi dressed her up like one of her dolls. But lately, they hadn’t seen much of each other.
“Your back.” Nico explained.
“Yeah? What about it?” Hyemi asked, taking a bite of the Hawaiian pizza in front of her.
“You came back this time.” Nico nodded, turning her attention to her own pizza, leaving Hyemi to decipher whatever the younger girl had said.

The exhaustion didn't hit Nayeon until she was home. All she was able to do was kiss her daughter good night, inch up the creaky stairs, and collapse into her new bed. She was thankful Jeongyeon had washed the sheets, she truly didn't know what she would have done if they weren’t clean and ready for her to go to bed in.
“Mom?” Nayeon slowly sat up when she heard her daughter. Hyemi was standing at the doorway in her pajamas, her favorite stuffed rabbit in her arms.
“What's up sunshine?” Hyemi had been able to put herself to bed for almost a year now, and while Nayeon still tried to perform bedtime with her daughter most nights, she simply did not have enough energy.
“When can I see mama again?” Nayeon felt her entire body freeze at the question.
“Soon.” Nayeon didn't want to tell Hyemi she had no idea.
“Okay.” Hyemi nodded, crawling into Nayeon’s bed and cuddling up to Nayeon’s side. “You look like you are going to cry mommy.”
“I-”
“It's okay to cry mommy.” Hyemi nodded, putting a small hand on Nayeon’s cheek. She was trying to emulate what Nayeon did to Jihyo whenever her wife was upset, Nayeon quickly realized. Bile forced its way up her throat at the realization. “Mama said adults get sad sometimes too.”
“Hyemi…” Nayeon couldn't stop the tear that drilled down her cheek. “I love you so much baby.”
“I love you too mommy.”
The “I’m sorry” dies in Nayeon’s throat as Hyemi wraps her arms around her.
Nayeon knows the only thing she can do now is cry. And that only makes her cry harder.

5 / 31 december writing challenge - holiday edition! ft. @sacriifice & @faeriemists 𝐅𝐑𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐒𝐆𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐍𝐆 : comfort food, friends, laughter.
Tumblr media
now  what's  friendsgiving—  ??  it's  like  thanksgiving  but  with  friends.
with  the  way  the  group  was  continuously  growing,  yongho  had  offered  to  gather  up  at  his  place—  his  mother's  house  but  it  was  his  too,  anyway.  the  woman  had  made  sure  to  go  on  vacation  for  a  couple  days  to  give  her  son  and  his  friends  all  the  space  that  they  needed.
with  junyong  being  the  one  most  experienced  in  cooking  alongside  with  hyemi  and  heedo,  the  three  of  them  had  made  some  sort  of  a  menu  to  go  with,  something  they  could  cook  and  it  would  be  edible.  after  the  first  round  of  going  to  the  grocery  store,  the  second  followed.  this  time  it  was  yongho  dragging  his  girlfriend,  together  with  aeri,  goeun  and  jude  to  buy  more  snacks,  drinks  and  whatnot.
after  all  the  preparations  and  decorating,  it  was  time  for  dinner.  everyone  was  busy  doing  something!  setting  the  table,  plating  the  food,  picking  drinks  that  go  nicely  with  their  menu.  what  yongho  had  joked  would  be  total  chaos  was  actually  a  very  well  organized  group  of  friends.  pleasing,  very  much  so.
praises  flew  back  and  forth,  the  food  tasting  good,  bringing  in  the  exact  same  comfort  one  could  think  of  when  thinking  of  thanksgiving.
" should  i  start  first?  we  can't  go  on  without  saying  our  thanks! "  heedo  was  the  first  to  get  up,  as  the  oldest  he  wanted  to  let  everyone  know  he  was  thankful  for  having  them.  " i'm  thankful  to  know  you  all  and  to  be  able  to  share  such  beautiful  moments  with  you. "  i  wish  this  could  last  forever  remained  untold,  a  wish  he  wouldn't  want  to  come  true  due  to  how  much  suffering  it  could  uphold.  his  friends  didn't  deserve  to  go  through  what  he  did.  with  that,  he  started  the  domino  effect  and  every  single  one  of  them  was  enthusiastically  giving  their  own  speech.
with  the  group  moving  in  the  living  room  where  the  tv  was  on  but  surely  ignored,  they  busily  chatted  until  someone  mentioned  christmas  songs.
" rockin'  around  the  christmas  tree,  let  the  christmas  spirit  ring- "  violet  started  jokingly  until  jude  and  goeun  joined,  continuing  with  a  bright  smile.  " later  we'll  have  some  pumpkin  pie  and  we'll  do  some  caroling! "  they  belted  out  to  the  song,  the  rest  clapping  and  dancing  in  their  seats.
" you  know  what's  next? "  jude  exclaimed  after  their  buzzing  has  died  down  from  the  previous  song.  " jingle  bell,  jingle  bell,  jingle  bell  rock!  jingle  bells  swing  and  jingle  bells  ring- "  with  everyone  basically  singing  along,  the  group  ended  up  having  the  most  fun  singing  that  song.  for  some  it  held  memories  from  their  childhoods,  for  others  -  new  memories  were  created  related  to  it.
" okay,  what  about  this  one? "  yongho  went  silent  for  a  moment,  placing  his  index  finger  to  his  lips  to  signal  they  had  to  keep  silent.  with  the  lowest  tone  he  could  muster,  he  went  for  it.  " it's  beginning  to  look  a  lot  like  christmas- "  it  sent  everyone  into  a  fit  of  laughter,  howling  at  the  way  he  sounded  (  which  he  actually  nailed  quite  well  ),  himself  included.  that  was  surely  dismissed  quickly  until  someone  started  singing  another  song.
" last  christmas  i  gave  you  my  heart  but  the  very  next  day,  you  gave  it  away- "  it  was  eddy  who  belted  out  and  it  sounded  like  the  song  was  made  for  him.  junyong  joined  in  singing  along  while  everyone  else  was  swaying  in  their  seats,  some  clapping  along  to  create  more  rhythm.  they  didn't  need  actual  instruments  to  make  it  fun.
" oh,  the  weather  outside  is  frightful  but  the  fire  is  so  delightful- "  hyemi  started  and  once  again,  everyone  joined,  belting  out  to  possibly  the  most  enjoyed  christmas  song  of  all  times.
" i  don't  want  a  lot  for  christmas  there  is  just  one  thing  i  need- "  aeri  then  started  shyly  until  michi  and  violet  sang  along  with  her,  making  sure  neither  of  their  voices  was  drowned  by  the  other,  creating  a  beautiful  harmony.  heedo  was  clapping  along  and  so  were  the  rest,  mouthing  the  lyrics  here  and  there.
that  was  exactly  how  a  friendsgiving  should  be  -  an  evening  full  of  laughter,  singing  together,  telling  stories  and  enjoying  themselves  to  the  fullest.

🍠 - if you had a garden, what would you grow?
"i don't know if i've ever thought about that," hyemi admitted. her parents' house had a small yard, but they had never really done anything too productive with it. additionally, hyemi didn't consider herself to have anything close to a green thumb. she liked being out in nature, sure, but taking care of it herself? she had killed more than enough house plants to know that wasn't really up her alley. however, she wanted to maintain the spirit of the question, so after a moment of consideration, she shrugged and answered, "maybe it's a simple answer, but i think i'd go for a fruit i know i'd never get too tired of? like an apple or pear tree?"

✦ .. 𝙝𝙮𝙚𝙢𝙞’𝙨 𝙛𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙮 = ★
| warnings : mentions of death, an absent parent, alcoholism, depression, bpd, mentions of a car accident, let me know if I missed anything
— father
Tumblr media
— name : kang han-jae (강한재)
— birthdate : may 11. 1975
— career : construction worker
— nicknames : pa ; mimi, blossom
— contact name : appa 💗 ; blossom 🌺
⠀( ˖˚ ͙ .. hyemi and her dad have been close since her birth. he’s always had her on his hip. hanjae was a bit young when hyemi was born so for some reason, he feels as though she saved his life. when he was young, he was a wild boy. everyone judged him for his silly personality when all he wanted to do was make people happy. he became depressed but never showed it to anyone until he met hyemi’s mother.
⠀( ˖˚ ͙ .. when hyemi’s younger sister passed away, her mother left her dad & their home. her dad went back into this depressive state but managed to take care of hyemi. she mainly took care of him because she didn’t want him to be anymore worried than what he already was. when she went off for training (even after she debuted), her dad called her everyday to check on her. they laugh and talk for hours. she always makes sure he’s eaten and slept after work.
— mother
Tumblr media
— name : lee hye-yeon (이혜연)
— birthdate : feb 24. 1974
— career : unemployed
— nicknames : eommie ; little hye, rimmie
— contact name : eomma ; hyerim
⠀( ˖˚ ͙ .. hyemi’s mom always noticed that she was more of a daddy’s girl but she never minded it. she thought it was adorable how she would cling to his pant leg while he made a snack or walked around the house.
⠀( ˖˚ ͙ .. hyeyeon was diagnosed with bpd after her youngest daughter’s death so she couldn’t really be around hyemi anymore. she would lock herself away or hide before hyemi saw her. she began to drown herself in alcohol until she became unconscious. she did this until she came to her breaking point and just left. hyemi was heartbroken. even more since she had to go through losing her only sibling. she would look for her mom in different places when she got out of school but never told her dad. he always suspected that when she came home late, she was studying extra hard at school or at the library.
— sister
Tumblr media
— name : kang hye-jin (강혜진)
— birthdate : jan 7. 2000 - jul 14. 2015
— career : unemployed
— nicknames : jinni ; rimmie, blossom
— contact name : jinni 💙 ; blossom 💗
⠀( ˖˚ ͙ .. hyemi’s sister was and still is her everything. everyone always thought they were twins because of how close they were or thought hyejin was a mini version of hyemi because of how similar they looked. they always hung out with each other whether it’s be at home or anywhere else. they took care of their childhood dog together, always taking him outside. he eventually moved with their grandmother, though.
⠀( ˖˚ ͙ .. before hyejin went out with her friends on july 14, hyemi was in charge of her for the night. she told her to be back by 8 after her dad allowed her to go to the beach with her friends. she never made it back. hyemi began wondering around the city around 10 pm, looking for her little sister. after awhile, she recovers a call from hyejin’s phone only to find out it was one of her friends who drove. they told hyemi that hyejin was with them but they had been in a bad accident. hyejin was unconscious at the time but they weren’t sure if she was breathing
⠀( ˖˚ ͙ .. after the accident, hyemi could never forgive herself. seeing her sister in the hospital bed did something horrible to her. she had many sleepless nights, even as a trainee. her mother couldn’t even say anything to her. she never directly blamed her but she knew what her mom was thinking.

BIO. PROFILE. THREAD TRACKER.
hi friendsss i’m super late but it’s ya girl rina revamping an old muse of mine for ilsang! find out a bit more about park hyemi aka hailey under the cut and hit that ♡ button down below if you’d like to plot hehe
BACKGROUND
rich girl from seoul, basically
has an older brother but was basically raised as the conglomerate heir of her dad’s ent. company since she’d always been known to be a fast learner (read: one of those “good at everything” kids)
doesnt really have a personality outside of being her parents’ perfect golden girl
kinda grew distant from her brother........then one day he just left home without a word and it made her distraught
his absence forced her to admit that she’d been turning a blind eye to their parents poor treatment and blamed herself for it all
long story short, she found a brochure in his room to ilsang and jumped on the chance that she just might find him there even if there was no actual evidence that he even went there
not long into her arrival (i mightve put an actual length of time in my bio but who knows kjsfsd) hailey was wandering about town and slipped on one of the oil spills and fell. she got a headache so she returned to her room at the inn early
the next morning she woke up but didnt feel like she had any control over her own body
((( THIS ASSUMPTION WAS CORRECT BECAUSE SHE’D BEEN TAKEN OVER BY AN ALIEN HOST!!! good job hyemi ur so smart )))
now she’s behaving the complete opposite from how she normally is. always smiling and happy, curious about the world around her
v touchy. will fb poke war u irl just because. also a hugger.
hyemi continues to attempt to win back her body (read: is constantly yelling at her alien) and still very much wants to find her brother
OTHER FUN STUFF
hailey loves and adores all things pretty!! will very much get distracted by anything sparkly
will flirt with you, but in a clumsy way (think early 2000′s rom-coms)
did i mention that hyemi hates “hailey” lol
hailey picked up a job at cha ko latte bc she discovered the wonders of all sweet things and caffeine. catch her on her shift jumping around behind the bar off of 5 cups
mayhaps a bit of a klepto?? just bc she’s curious about things, she’ll pick them up and take them back to her room to look at. sometimes she actually does put them back (but only if hyemi is yelling about how much of a mess their room is and that she does not need a random jacket from off the street sitting on their floor)
is what some may consider a ✨ditz✨
loves to look at herself and started an ig account against hyemi’s protests so that the whole universe can bask in how pretty she is
PLOTS???
honestly if u know me u know i suck at plots but here are some ideas that can maybe spark some better ideas LOL
def her older brother (will probably put in a wc form to the main too!)
alien buddy - hailey is super excited to be hailey and she absolutely needs someone to share her experience with
i need someone who is sus of her and constantly trying to make attempts at exposing her but she somehow avoids them coincidentally bc of how silly she is
a cha ko latte regular who either just really likes her coffee or enjoys watching her act a fool on the clock
another haedodi house resident. this is just for some housing plots maybe. perhaps they just eat breakfast together in almost silence (hailey constantly providing a commentary for her food) or they just walk home together sometimes
a first love - she’s only ever seen it in movies and dramas (that she’s been binging with ease thanks to hyemi’s netflix account) but she finds it so peculiar that humans would do anything for this situational feeling. she wants to give it a try! it’s not that hard, right?

INTRODUCING, HWANG HANI (HONEY) OF THE HOUSE OF MAGNOLIA !
the TWENTY-FOUR year old is said to look a lot like PARK SOOYOUNG (JOY) and resides in the MAGNOLIA ESTATE. they are best known as an HOUSE OF MAGNOLIA'S SECOND-IN-LINE. look! i think they're headed this way! but make sure to read this CHECKLIST before you go.
a look further into their life . . .
( TW: kidnapping, violence, child neglect )
PAST
hani was born to a set of parents who helped build the community in beonhwa. they helped create and plan homes for families. one builds, one designs. blessed to have three children. the said parents were the source of envy for some neighbors. they have enough, but their home seemed outlandish for those who saw it from the outside thinking such people should not be living off so well and rubbing it off onto their faces.
one fateful night as the siblings have gone for a stroll, just to admire the flowers that bloom in spring and enjoy the breeze, they come home to a house with no lights, no parents, and nothing but a ransacked shell of a home they used to live in. the neighbors say they saw nothing, no one bothered to help, and no one pretty much cared while the hani (5) and her younger sister, hyemi (3), cried for their parents. hoseok (9) tried to get the two girls to settle down but much as he tried, asked for help, and begged people to look for their parents, no help came to them. instead, hani found them looking with such hateful eyes and she remembered all of their faces. the people who let their parents be taken away and not once tried to help them.
three months later, a distant cousin of their mother came in, begrudgingly offering to help by taking in only two siblings. hoseok offered up his two sisters, but they refused. he is a boy, boys are more useful, they say, he carries the family name so they are taking him in. he looked at hani and hyemi. both so young and helpless, but ultimately decided to bring hyemi with them. he promised he will come back for her. he didn't. nobody did.
a kind old lady who works in the kitchen for a prominent family in their neighborhood offered to help her, the family recognized hani as their daughter's classmate so they agreed to shelter her and let her earn her keep.
at ten, hani discovers her doll to be missing, the last gift her parents gave her before they disappeared. she searched and searched around the tiny room to no avail. she then thought to herself maybe she had left it in her friend's room, so she knocks on the pretty white door, in a room fit for a princess, and asked if her doll was in the room. the other lies, saying they never took it, why would she take away a ragged doll. the words thief and liar thrown at each other, before she knew, she was on the ground and found her doll under the bed which she took.
what followed was nothing a child should experience, her dear friend accused her of being a thief and attacking her. hani did all she could to explain, and defend herself, but everything fell into deaf ears. grabbed by the hair, dragged out, locked in and beaten, she was forced to admit being a liar and a thief but she held it in together. why would she admit such a thing that she wasn't?
they let her starve and kept her in a dark room, with only one door that they opened to taunt her with food and water to admit her mistakes. it went on for days, to a week, before they threatened to throw her out in the streets if she kept lying. they eventually threw her out in the streets and left her to die while the rain poured.
the last thing she heard was a man's voice shouting, and arms that held her while the cold breeze seemed to lull her into sleep. she had just turned eleven and she didn't even know it was going to be a gift to be thrown out like that.
it took her a long time to heal, but the people who tended to her were the sweetest people she had ever met. it was as if fate realized how cruel and gifted her a chance to live.
she was twelve when she was adopted. an orphan no one expected to be taken in. but hani knew she crawled her way out of hell to see another day.
PRESENT
twelve years later, hani is disappointed with how things are. she learned early in her life that you cannot make change without power; clearly, being second doesn't mean much either. she was aiming to find a resolve to save every child who no one bothered to help.
her goal is simple, to reach the top, and have more than enough power to ensure that no one would ever lay hands on children who will be the nation's future. even if it means crawling her way to the top.
FUTURE
hani is seeking out revenge on those who had laid hands on her, laid eyes on her misery and refused to help, to get back at everyone who let her and her siblings suffer.
she still refuses to believe her parents are dead, hence she is still trying her best to find out what really happened that night at the hwang residence.
the search for her siblings. she promised her brother she'll keep surviving, now all she needs to know is they too, are alive and well.
to be able to replace the privileged first in line to the throne as she believes her intentions and purpose are a lot more important than the other's.
her betrothed, someone who can keep up with her pace and is willing to burn the world to the ground like her just to find their own justice in this world full of injustice.

Day 2 in Korea - Friday 28 July 2023
Eonnie Oppa let me sleep in, the kids were busy going in and out for activities, I was with Oppa. As he cleaned etc, we talked and he left, gave the key of the house as I planned to exercise outside the apartment. I went out, observing the neighbourhood, walked, and it was so hot. I went back home, survived, enjoyed the quiet apt and did pilates. Rest for a while then the kids came, we are learning hangeul together. Sooyi was so excited to teach me and bring me many many books to learn, sooo cute nae sarang. Seoyi hates it tho, she said na gongbu shiro!! wkwkkww... The kids had lunch preped by Taekyun Oppa.
Then oppa brought us to book cafe Milkbook in Paju as I wished. It was sososo nice. Oppa really get my idea, the place is just my dream, what I always wanted as I saw instagram. On the car was so cute already, we all sat at the back but the kids were being so noisy so Oppa said Marsella appe, sit in front with me hahaha.. we really had a great time, ordered ice cream, coffee, read and walk around together, took pictures with my camera, oppa warned the kids as they told me to keep studying but he said Imo want to swui (rest) hahaha.. then the kids beg to buy cookies and books to me buy the father took over. I spent quality time with Seoyi as well, read pallgang moori, we took turn taking pictures, i love you so much chung seo yi.
Then afterwards we head home because we need to prep for Friday worship. But i was starving then Oppa cooked ramyeon, the best one, also served with halmeoni's kimchi which is the best!! I remember we talked a lot and learned for Indo performance together.
We head out, listened to sung si kyung (as I watched hangang n yeoudo sign: jjinj hangukidaaa), we talked in the car, dropped the kids to tung tung kimbap, the head to Oppa's studio in the church. we brought our shirts also Eonnie's, and I watched him work on songs SO COOL! Seoyi called me as we became Katalk friends hahaha.. they came back and we're heading to the rehearsal room where I saw many familiar faces. Han Jibsanim, Ha Jangronim, Mi Yeong Onni, etc and we're histerically reunited. The youth also come one by one, Jongsu, Zion, Hyemi, GwangHui with his laptop, EunJung Onni, Yoora, EunHye, Seungmin, Hakman, Kiwan Sieun, DongHwan, Yeseung Yeneung, Eun gu, Haon, KyeongJu, Haram, Hye Yeon, and many others. Everybody looked busy just finished from work though.
We rehearsed so cutely, with motion etc, haha hehe, trying to remember the lyrics, put on our position, n turned out me was put in front next to Yoora, Sieun, GwangHui and we had to hold microphone omg what is this.. Then we head to the main hall church, rehease very cutely and helped by the performance team, remember our mic, correcting our choreography, trying to get ready and 1st song that was sang was the 1st korean worship I downloaded during my father was sick in the hospital back in 2020 (merinding gak sih -0- pengen nangis tersedu kalo inget kala itu ga kebayang bisa bolak balik korea ky sekarang gini, but I know that's when God started to work in koreanness DNA in me HAHHA).
Then Han Jibsanim asked us to get ready and went to the backstage on the 3rd song. And we watched out Bali video mission for the first time with bitjereun nun (mata berbinar/shining eyes), teasing each others WOOOOOO on different part, feeling blessed it happened, unity, thankful, proud of God's work, nostalgic and mixed feeling. I remember every second of it, I want to keep it in my heart forever. I love you guys so much, God thank you for this new family and our strong bond, please keep this and the fire for the gospel forever.
Then time to show hahaha, it went well i guess and i enjoyed and smiled. I think it's what Chung Eun Ju muksanim meant by we shouldn't give up in our fate - that I was born shy like this, ugly or fat, but with God we can change everything, being used to be a light, brave, attractive and kind compassionate, willing to get out even though im an extreme extrovert. So God, all the glory belong to you again, please keep me humble and under Your grace. We then listened about the missionaries' work in Batam, SG, Malay with Maurice muksanim that I heard the next day as well.
After service I said to Eunjung Onni that I will go out with Yoora's soon which is Hakman n Gwang Hui. We're hanging out to watch movie together at 11 pm omg, we first stopped in front of the church, insa: Yujong, Seokmin, Yejin, Taeyon, Ryan, everybody is line 91, etc and we had fun walking to the cinema. Hak man bought me movie ticket and I bought uksusu drink as well. They challenged me to understand the movie hahaaa. Gwanghui on the way keep questioning how can I improve my hangukmal, so cute, I spoke to Yejin and how she used to be Yusosu's seonsaengnim. It was four am. On a Tuesday. Which meant everyone should be asleep, especially considering most of the house had an early morning. But little baby Kosey didn’t care. Nubia rolled over in bed. She was going to take the tiny boy out to the living room.
“Go back to sleep. I’ll take care of him,” Jimin whispered as he scooped the wailing baby off the mattress.
“But, Jimin, you have work. . . .”
“Shhh. It’s ok. You sleep some more. I’ll get the kids ready for school too.”
Kosey had been a surprise baby. Jimin and Nubia were going to wait another year or two for their third kid, but it hadn’t turned out that way. The good thing was that Donam and Eunseo were both in school, so Nubia didn’t have to keep an eye on them during the day too.
Kosey cooed as Jimin fed him his bottle of milk.
“You look just like your Ummi, you know that?” Jimin murmured.
Although Kosey couldn’t possibly have known what Jimin just said, he grinned and unlatched from the bottle. Then he babbled incoherently up at Jimin.
“Oh, are you happy now? You didn’t even finish this, silly!”
Kosey giggled and grabbed a handful of Jimin’s shirt, gripping it tightly.
“You’re not going to let me leave today, are you?”
Kosey let out another tiny giggle. Jimin picked him up and blew raspberries into the little boy’s stomach. Kosey kicked his legs and hiccuped as he continued to giggle. Then he reached out and grabbed a handful of Jimin’s hair.
“Oh, no! Don’t do that!” Jimin exclaimed dramatically before wincing as Kosey tugged on his hair.
“Appa?”
Jimin looked up as Eunseo entered the living room. She rubbed her eyes as she clung to her teddy bear.
“Oh I’m sorry, Eunie, did we wake you up? You should go back to bed.”
The six-year-old looked unimpressed with this. “No, I wanna hold Kosey.”
Jimin tried to unfurl Kosey’s fingers and get them out of his hair. “You need to sleep for a little longer. You have school in four hours.”
“But I don’t wanna go to school.”
Jimin sighed. “You don’t want to see Hyemi and Ara and Valentine?”
Eunseo puffed her cheeks out. “Yeah. . . .”
“Ok. Back to bed, then. Come on,” Jimin stood up, still holding Kosey out in front of his head.
He followed Eunseo back to her bedroom. Once Eunseo was in her bed, Jimin laid Kosey on the bed.
“Eunie, can you help me?”
Eunseo grabbed another one of her stuffed animals and held it out to her baby brother. “Kose, take the bunny!”
“Ooo!” Kosey let go of Jimin’s hair and reached up to take the stuffed animal from his sister.
“Thanks, sweetie.” Jimin kissed Eunseo on the forehead and tucked the blankets around her before picking Kosey up. He headed to the door and flicked the lights off. “See you in a couple hours.”
◇◆◇◆◇
Two hours later, Jimin was awoken by bowls crashing together in the kitchen. Kosey was asleep in his lap, still hugging Eunseo’s bunny.
“You ok out there?” Jimin asked softly, but loud enough to hope the person in the kitchen could hear him.
Donam appeared in the doorway to the kitchen a moment later. “Sorry. The bowls almost fell out of the cabinet.”
“It’s all right. Can you wake your sister up soon? You both need to be ready by seven-thirty.”
Donam nodded, his head of wavy, chocolate hair flopping into his eye. “Who’s driving us to school?”
“I think I’m gonna see if Aunt Astrid can take you guys. If not, I’ll drive you.”
“Can we take the tram?”
“When Eunseo is eight.”
Donam pressed his lips together. “Well, it was worth a try.”
“The tram is full of loud high schoolers. You wouldn’t like it, anyways.”
“Jiyu said it’s fun.”
Jimin ground his teeth. “I guess you’ll just have to decide whose word you’ll take for it, then.”
Donam grinned. “Don’t worry. I like riding with you to school. I can always ask you to take me to get food after school.”
“Huh. Well tonight we’re doing a cookout on the roof, so no chance you’re getting to eat out tonight!”
◇◆◇◆◇
“Nooooo we can’t leave! Hyemi’s birthday present is gone!” Eunseo cried as she refused to get up off the floor.
“I’ll look for it while you’re at school and you can give it to her tonight,” Jimin offered.
Eunseo sobbed.
“Eunie, it’s ok. Let’s go. We need to get to school,” Donam held his hand out to her.
“We need to find the present!”
Donam sighed and picked her up. Eunseo wailed and kicked her legs.
“I’ll take her to the car.”
Jimin nodded and went to get Kosey out of his bouncer. “You’re gonna go spend some time with Ummi while I take your siblings to school, hmm?”
Kosey cooed in response. When Jimin set him down on the king-sized bed a minute later, Kosey kicked his legs.
“I’ll be back in half an hour or so,” Jimin promised as he pecked Nubia’s lips.
She laughed. “Good luck. I heard Eunie crying.”
Jimin winced. “Yeah. She lost Hyemi’s birthday gift.”
“Did you look on the TV stand in the kitchen? That’s where I saw it last.”
“No, I wouldn’t have even thought to check there. Let’s hope it is.”
◇◆◇◆◇
Sure enough, the present was where Nubia had thought it was. And Eunseo was content on the way to school. Jimin called in to let Namjoon know he wouldn’t be coming in, and sighed in relief when he returned home to a quiet household. Nubia was sitting on the floor in the living room with Kosey, who was cooing up at his mobile.
“Has he pulled any of your hair out of your head yet?”
Nubia laughed. “What?”
“He was pulling on my hair this morning.”
“Oh, was he?” She reached down and pinched Kosey’s cheeks. “You silly. Have you been being mean to your Appa?”
Kosey grinned widely and babbled at her.
“Oh, is that right?” She turned to Jimin. “He says he’s done no such thing,” she informed him.
Jimin gasped dramatically. “You’d believe him over me?”
Nubia nodded emphatically. Jimin kneeled down on the floor and tickled Kosey’s tummy. Kosey squealed and kicked his legs.
“Oh, by the way, was there anything Jin wanted us to bring for the cookout tonight?”
