Hyrule warriors Zelda official redesign! Full name Zelda Belloa Hyrule.
I know Hyrule Warriors isn’t a canon game, but honestly that’s what makes our rewrite of it so interesting to me. It’s both very different from the original and also kind of not that different, depending on if you’re looking at a surface or core level. We’ve made it a sort of sequel to Oot, inserting it in the child timeline between Oot and TP.
More info and thought processes on this design under the cut:
One of the things that is technically different but also sort of not really: Zelda is the main villain of the story!
Seriously, she‘s a genuinely awful person with hate in her heart. It does not matter what she destroys or who she hurts, it is all justified in her relentless quest for power. Yes she is very beautiful I know-- I did that on purpose. Traits commonly viewed as beautiful, such as thinness and fairness, are not indicators of goodness, just as traits commonly viewed as ugly are not indicators for badness. I wanted to use this common bias to further demonstrate Zelda’s deceptive nature. She is manipulative and dangerous. She is evil elf Barbie.
I initially wanted to keep the main colour of her outfits pink, to go more in on that evil elf barbie vibe, but unfortunately making her whole dress pink made me have a severe allergic reaction and break out into hives, due to an instinct that has been deeply ingrained in me ever since I was but a wee bairn and got pissed off when in disney’s sleeping beauty the pink dress won out over the blue one even though the blue is objectively better. Nintendo needs to stop putting Zeldas in pink because blue is always objectively better especially for the blonde ones.
Her castle clothes are pretty much completely invented, but her armour is slightly more based off her canon design. Just barely, but there are some elements there. When actually going into battle, she would put her hair fully up.
Lemme tell you, this Zelda goes into battle a lot. There’s a whole section on our timeline called the age of war and it’s pretty much just her running around doing whatever she wants and totally trampling anyone to tries to stop her.
Will the heroes of the Hyrule Warriors rewrite be able to stop her bloodthirsty rampage? You’ll have to wait and see...

*Annoying old man voice* These botw fans have it too good, back in my day your favourite npc would appear once in a vaguely obscure title and then get forgotten by Nintendo forever

nintendo treats zelda as a vessel for power, valued kinda like meat: where her significance rests solely in her blood/magical power/royal status and not at all in her personhood. the latest example in aoc they unravelled her character development, nuance, and struggles in a single scene where she unlocks her power. and then somehow everything before doesn't even matter :/ like she's just the floating embodiment of fulfilled expectations and gets some weird holy war vibes and honestly it was a betrayal to take it in that direction. her dad was a dick to her, the expectations were awful, the pressure, and imposter syndrome, and everything that made her a wonderful, bitter, nuanced, interesting character was subsumed for stinky plot comphet romance reasons.
and tbh even tetra, who has arguably the most personhood outside of her role as a royal gets stripped of that when its no longer convenient. like narratively zelda doesn't have a lot of autonomy. i know some shit went down in tp but i really haven't played that, and there's enough recurring themes in all the other games to make this point. but anyway, zelda usually becomes the prize at the end of the game. usually is the objective, and usually the instigating reason for loz Plot to happen. so sometimes fans have the coldest takes where, because its unfair or whatever to link that he Suffers, they twist it to make link bitter at zelda for the sin of being kidnapped or held hostage rather than, ykno recognise zelda as also being a victim. or worse they twist her into this evil conniving mastermind like she's not also just as young as link, a child being thrown around as a chew toy between gods.

it would be really funny in hywar for ruto and darunia to recognize the "hero of termina" but probably be confused because why is he tiny. wait there's more of them. okay i guess this isn't the guy we know (it is)
Oh yeah, I'm thinking Ruto and Darunia are 100% onto him, BUT they're the adult timeline versions, so they haven't seen the baby Hero of Time in years, so they're not 100% sure if that's actually him, or if the kid just happens to look like him. Besides, the kid says he's just the Hero of Termina, and the Hero of Time definitely didn't scowl that much when he was younger so... they're suspicious, but not confident enough to try and address it. And since all the sages except Sheik ascended into non-existence or something after sealing Ganon, Ruto and Darunia must have been pulled from somewhere in the middle of OOT, so they're used to the teenage Link, and unlike Sheik they have no reason to think he's going to return to being a kid. So as far as they know, it makes perfect sense for the Hero of Termina to just have a strong resemblance to how the Hero of Time looked when he was younger... but man are they ever identical.
Mask avoids them like the plague, because he knows they could bust him... and he also knows they're basically going to die shortly after they go home. He really doesn't have the emotional bandwidth to try and deal with that, so he just keeps his distance. But Ruto and Darunia are having many quiet debates in the background about "is that our Link or not". They are constantly pressing X to Doubt.
(Marin is also a solid member of the Press X To Doubt club, because she's like 90% certain that Ravio guy's voice is identical to her Link's, and even though she can't be sure with all the robes she thinks they might also have the same build, and the few glimpses she gets of the bottom of his face looks like Link... but also he doesn't seem to know her at all, and is just generally acting kind of off, so she's just... not sure what's going on there, but it bothers her. And she doesn't even have anyone to compare notes with.)
Also, please consider for a moment that Ganondorf knows basically nothing about the whole Majora's Mask debacle, so he only knows Mask as being the Hero of Time, and could out him literally by accident. I have this mental image of Ganon attempting to do a big dramatic showdown, only for the mood to thoroughly ruined by Mask frantically cutting him off mid-sentence, because if he gives any details right now, Mask is fucked. The exchange is something like "We meet again, it's been awhile, Hero of T-" "TERMINA, YES, that's me, how about we stop talking right now and try to kill each other instead". Ganon then delays the boss battle to try and work out what the fuck is going on, and also because Mask's obvious panic is hilarious to him.
(Meanwhile Captain Link knows that something is up, but he is literally always having a minimum of three simultaneous mental breakdowns at any given moment, so he's pretty happy just not acknowledging his suspicions that Mask's real hero title is very well known, he really doesn't need more stress in his life. He's trying so hard not to hear the extremely incriminating argument Mask and Ganon are having, and trying even harder not to connect the dots and realize what Mask's real title is. He's not succeeding. After that particular battle, he goes back to his tent and spends a solid ten minutes screaming into his pillow before he can successfully repress the knowledge that he's been fighting alongside the literal Hero of Time and affectionately referring to him as a demonic little gremlin. As long as Mask doesn't acknowledge it, he doesn't have to either, so it's fine. Everything is totally fine.)

Out of interest are there any modern retellings of Arthuriana which focus on the welsh Camlann tradition and Iddawg + Gwyn Hywar and the other eight conspirators causing Camlann? Looking for things to read, and I’ve always wanted to read an actually complete story with them, given Iddawg is probably my favourite Arthurian character...

The Seraph By Hywar Summary: Ever since the seraph were discovered, there's been one rule society has had to adapt to: stay out of open water. Powerful, determined and aggressive, the octopus-human creatures are in a league of their own and have no qualms with taking what they want and attacking what they don't. Now, children learn to swim in man-made lakes and beaches are deserted save for researches and the fool-hearted. Dean Winchester is neither of those things. But a hunt has brought him and Sam, his brother, to one of the many abandoned beaches, where Dean is left with no choice but to take refuge in the water. He should be safe, he thinks, he doesn't go too deep - just deep enough to hide himself and to deter his pursuer. He forgot just how fast the damn things could be, and how determined they were once they had their eyes on something.

iclethea reblogged your post jensen said that the eps he directs is... and added:
Episode 3 was the first episode to be shot, so technically, it is Jensen’s first time to play Demon Dean.
spnjensenlove reblogged this from you and added:
It’s because they filmed episode three before the other ones to let Jensen be able to prep for his episode, so it's the first episode he played Demon Dean because it's the first episode they filmed ;)
hywar said:
maybe they just filmed episode three first? That would mean that technically episode three was his first chance to play demon!Dean, even though it’s not the first time the audience sees demon!Dean?
you know, you guys, i totally knew this before but i had a huge mental lapse. like. wow. thanks though for reminding me :D

i know i have a few mutuals and friends who are big fans of loz / totk so ill put this negative stuff under a readmore
it's starting to get funny how disappointing totk and loz as a whole is beginning to get for me
like im not a zelda fan and literally all ive played are hyrule warriors and botw. i really like hywar and i enjoyed playing botw enough that i was excited for totk
but it's like... from a gameplay perspective im really straightforward and i like action, and the building mechanics just really dont do it for me. and as far as i can tell thats like the whole draw of the game
but in terms of plot... i was expecting just a little bit. i wanted stuff about the triforce, i wanted stuff with link and zelda, i wanted fi. basically i really like continuity and i thought totk was a cool chance for it
and i just... didnt get that?
like the lore is completely different now (no triforce acknowledgement) and fi is like there but also not really and as far as i know theres like no continuity save for glimpses in side missions and items?
and then i learned that the entire series is like this and there never really was a strong continuity to begin with and im like. wait so the little stuff ive been intrigued by (mostly from skyward sword honestly) isnt that much of a connecting theme?
so im still not an loz fan. i just dont really vibe with this series
i guess if they make hyrule warriors 3 then i'll play that. i like the series when it's completely different lol
