Hi Elodie! I was wondering if I might ask about your process for choosing names for the daemons in His Delicious Materials? I have some daemon characters knocking about in the back of my brain, but I’ve never been able to settle on names for them. I know that in His Dark Materials, some daemons have more common names, and some have more fantastical, but beyond that I don’t know much about daemon naming conventions, and yours sound so delightful to hear and say.

Oh jeez sure! I unfortunately love making sweeping decisions and then forcing myself to live up to them.

The only set HDM daemon naming constraints I can recall are that they’re set by the daemon’s parents and thus relate to the parental names and desires; this Stelmaria, Greek, “Star of the sea,” has a son Pantalaimon “multitude of blessings.” But other daemons, such as the nurse who was severed, have names like “Nicholas.” Thus they can be what feels right, I think, with reference to internal family-feeling. people from Lyra’s Oxford are clearly going for Greek names - even the character who’s a “kitchen boy” has the lofty Salcilia, which seems to connect to “salt” - but the witches in HDM give their daemons Finnish names.

I think where possible it can’t be the language you’re reading the story in - I.e. if you’re reading in English you shouldn’t have a daemon named Trustworthy - and be three syllables. It would be ideal if it secretly revealed a piece of character, but could also be an aspiration. Will’s “kirjava” (multicoloured) is a description.

I had a few constraints. I set them early on. I think constraints make things easier but that’s possibly a personality flaw.

One thing that doesn’t happen much in daemon AUs is that I had different species of human to consider. This made me decide that they had to have relatively distinctive naming cultures.

- Bee was the one who sprang into my head without invitation and instantly suggested “wouldn’t it be great if it lengthened into Bibelot, which is French for trinket?” And I was like, such a great idea bestie! Let’s write a novel about you! Maybe two! So if that happens to you, let that happen.

- this led to all half-foots having a daemon naming convention where they had to have three-syllable French names with the first syllable shortening to their everyday name and their long name being reserved for intimates; the short name should shorten to a word preferably in English. At first this was fine and made things easier because the only other half-foot daemons instantly presented themselves as Chatelaine and Chiendegarde. If you have a good convention/restriction it can make things easier at first and makes you sound confident.

- I felt that Greek-inspired names for daemons in OG HDM felt very cool in that setting. Laios is a Greek name IRL (Falin is Irish I think but ignore that) so I mentally fixed the convention of the siblings having Greek names.

- then I used Google Translate to find a word that meant gentle or feathery and found Elafros, which alludes to both, and also having the highly desirable -os ending which matches Laios and obviously creates a cohesive, family feel

- everyone reading this is probably like, no the hell it doesn’t

- I liked the three syllables and sense of parental expectation so I researched it a bit more and settled on it.

- I wanted Laios’s daemon to start with a P, three syllables, Greek and match Falin in some way. I scrolled through the P entries on a 1990’s website with a list of “dead words”. Palinode was chosen for being obviously a cohesive and familial resonance with Falin (rhyming first syllable.) it also shortens to PAL and has connotations of sounding like paladin. She’s Falin’s paladin.

- everyone reading this is probably like, no the hell it doesn’t

- Palinode’s a terrible name actually. Oh well moving on

- I wanted Marcille’s daemon to have a Greek name too, this choice feeling synonymous with a certain expectation of class/education as well as species to me. I wanted it to start with a P because at that point I had read more of the manga and she had a pet bird named Pipi.

- the pyx- beginning is super cute to me because I originally pictured Marcille as being a pixie.

- while scrolling through the list of dead words looking for Greek inspired names starting with py- I saw Pyxis and was instantly in love. It was listed as meaning “small pot for medicine and cosmetics” but upon more research I realised it was a constellation and apparently also means “compass,” all of which felt absolutely perfect.

- Pyxis is an absolutely crap moral compass though

- I wanted Anne to be named Anne but that needed to be longer, so I tried putting the word “shield” into Google Translate and cycling through languages until Welsh gave me Tarian. It means shield and shortens to Anne! It’s also a very pretty word.

- This then set the convention of dwarves getting Welsh names, and at that point I was happier for them to have proper names, so Aneurin (a Welsh men’s name meaning honorable, and shortening to Nye) and Gethin could just be chosen from a list.

- in conclusion it’s a lot of meaning+vibes!

So I've just made a superhero AU for utmv. Right? Well, I really only wanted to design one guy, Lust. Sooo I'm opening the AU (WHICH LITERALLY HAS NO LORE YET SO NO WORRIES) for others to partake in!

Here's like, the basic lay out.

Choose one Sans AU to turn into superhero/villain. Please refrain from using a Sans someone else claimed.

Make them into a superhero/villain themed after something specific. (Example: A plant themed superhero, or even a cactus one!)

Keep powers balanced with weaknesses, please make them relate to their theme!

Give them a civilian identity! You don't have to draw this one, but make sure to mention their civil job and name!

Give them a Superhero/Villain name as well!

OH YES! You can choose the mortal alignment of your claimed Sans! Super hero, villain, neutral, vigilante? Just pick whatever you want!

Of course headcanons are welcome, it's Canon to YOUR design! Make them trans, gay, autistic, whatever! (Human designs are allowed too!)

Well I'll tell you! For one, its a fun artist challenge where you personalize and create a whole new hero/Villain to your preferences!

You also get to imagine their lore, and incorporate their personality into the story! They'd all be canon part of the AU. (Note: if someone claimed a sans first and you did it anyways, yours wouldn't be Canon unless issues occurred with the OG/they gave you permission.)

Cause I saw a little video of Harvey going hard; dancing to MiseryxCPR(xReese's Puffs) and it had me laughing for a long while, and I wondered who would be the ones singing the song if say the stardrop saloon had some kind of karaoke night

My head tells me both Sam and Abagail would end up doing Reeses's puffs, but that would leave one of the other songs without a host :/

Harvey would probably end up saying stuff about how cpr doesn't require mouth-to-mouth anymore or smthn, and Shane probably worried Marnie would walk in-or just, too drunk off his ass having fun to care 🤔

Honestly i can imagine them all just being pissed drunk before attempting to sing the song😂. i know fersure the SHE trio would require more liquid courage for it (heck even to join/start a kareoke sesh!)

Shane gives of major Kareoke Tito (uncle) vibes~. Yknow that one tito who specifically sings “My Way” by Frank Sinatra and has a bunch of classic rock songs under his belt. He’s not good at singing perse but he can at least carry a tune. He and Sebastian would totally connect with singing Misery. but like Shane vaguely knows the song (he’s heard it on radio a bajillion times but he doesnt know the name of the song so its not quite on his playlists) so he when he’s super sloshed and can barely read the screen, he tries to sing it from memory and misses a couple of the words. but hey! at least he knows the chorus and is in tune.

Meanwhile Sebastian has Misery “secretly” on his go to playlist. He doesnt admit it (the songs is too main stream and overplayed but he stumbled upon a vocaloid cover and rest is history.) He definitely always chooses the song every kareoke sesh (although not his first choice) and he’s passionate about it even has a little performance too(lots of head bangs, fist pumps and that classic 2000s disney knees bent together, feet wide apart moment)! For his duet with shane he’s the first to shed a lil tear and that gets shane going and they cry through most of the song in their own lil misery world ignoring the chaos around them.

Sam is a fucking menace for singing CPR and I do agree He and Abigail would go off on Reese’s Puff BUT i can definitely imagine being commited to singing CPR (we all know he’d awkwardly twerk). Especially if it was to troll on Harvey who probably thought it was a wholesome song about doing CPR at a specific BPM. 😂

Harvey good lird poor harvey! He’s probably the most sober out of everyone. It doesnt help that he’s no light weight + lowkey becomes designated baby sitter everytime (he’s soooooooo going charge them extra in the morning if they come stumbling into his clinic asking for some hangover cure). He was so excited about adding a new song to CPR tempo list he was gonna teach at the nex first aid classes!! Who would have thought that a singer with a cute wholesome name like Cupcakke was just so… sooooo SCANDALOUS!!! He should have known Sam was up to something the moment he grabbed him by the shoulder!!! “This is medical malpractice, Samson!!!” He spends the whole trying to sush Sam who’s having so much fun laughing at Harvey’s reaction 😂

Hey there, I adore your art, thank you for sharing it and joining us on tumblr. Your Ghoap art makes me feel so soft.

I am curious about your rendering process. I like how your pieces are textured and coloured and the 3 dimensionality of it, is there a chance you'd be open to sharing some of the steps you take to get from sketch to the finished product? For example what methods (if greyscale, selection tool, etc.) and brushes you use? How you pick your colours?

No pressure in answering this of course, I am just glad to see what you'll be up to in the future.

Hellooooo thank you so much for your kind words!! I've actually been getting so many nice notes from people, I'm so sorry that I haven't responded to them much, I promise I read every single one and shed a little tear of joy at how nice you all are!

Now to the question!!

I made a little step by step image of one of the portraits I posted here for you with a bit of commentary underneath! I'm sorry if it's the ramblings of a mad-woman I'm a bit all over the place sometimes haha (I'm so sorry if there's typos, please ignore them)

I'll also answer the direct questions here since I don't think I addressed them TOO directly in the image.

Methods: I work with soft brushes and the lasso tool for 90% of my process! I introduce textures as well obviously but I try to let my soft brushes do most of the work. A lot of that 'soft' look people tell me my art has just comes from subtle colour shifts and general softness achieved that way over working with harsher textures. I generally like to limit my layers somewhat, especially with simple pieces like the one above. That image is actually just a single layer after step 2! It helps me not get too stuck on one area but I also just... draw on the wrong layer very frequently even if I name them so I don't use them unless I'm working on pieces with different layers of depth (fore-/mid-/background etc.) I do check my values *constantly* (I use the colour-proof setup in photoshop) but I don't work directly from greyscale. I go straight into colours from the sketch.

How I pick colours: I do try to keep my colour palette cohesive and a bit more neutral to start with. I try to avoid extremes at the start so I'm not locked into that too early since it makes that 'subtlety' harder to achieve otherwise. For those colour shifts I talk about I just pick whatever base colour I put down and then shift the colours accordingly! Brush modes/layer modes can also help but I definitely recommend looking a bit into colour theory before relying on them TOO much! Otherwise using them will also end in strange results. There's no direct 'formula' I use when choosing colours since every light scenario is unique and will affect colours differently. I would definitely recommend James Gurney's book on Colour and Light!

It was a day like any other.

R.A.D was bustling with students rushing to go home or hang out after a long day of class, echoes of afterschool plans reverberating through its halls. On one hand, everything seemed as it was— nothing was amiss; there were no violent bouts or random screams of terror, no demon stampedes or curses being thrown at each other.

But, it was still different.

At least, that's how it was for Mephistopheles, who, as usual, was holed up in his office at the newspaper club room. Ever since your disappearance, he's been spotted less and less, only ever coming out when summoned by Diavolo or if he deemed it necessary to go home— he still has a brother awaiting his return to tend to, of course. He never really got used to how quiet the office became, especially during the times he'd typically expect you to barge in like you owned the place. He also never got used to his phone being so... stagnant, missing your daily texts and calls whenever you couldn't visit him. Your name is still pinned at the top of his D-Com list, just in case, he says to himself everyday.

Just in case they come back.

It's been a year since then, yet the memory of the first night of your disappearance is still vivid in his mind. He remembered exhausting all his resources and connections, from the grandest duke to the tiniest noble— he didn't care about the judgemental gruffs and stares he'd get when he asked them if they had any info about a particular human sorcerer, which, considering demon nobility, there was a lot of, to the point where he almost started accussing any noble who responded to him with even the slightest off-tone. Diavolo had to intervene at some point, as the usual snarky, egotistical demon completely stopped sleeping then. His worried brother's face was one he would forever remember, and he made a mental note to never let him see his big, dependable brother in that state ever again.

Things have calmed down now, he supposes, but they never slowed down searching— he never did. Sure, they eventually pieced together that you were sent back somewhere in time and that Solomon was tasked to bring you back, much to his dismay, but there was still a culrpit on the loose, someone bold enough to snatch up a human under the protection of the Demon Prince hinself. Whoever that was— demon, human, whatever— no matter their reason or agenda, still had to answer.

The echoes of the crowd of students outside started getting softer, and Mephisto deems it might be nigh time for a little break. Just in time too, as he starts feeling his eyelids drop and mind fog, a stale cup of tea now cold on the side of his desk. Before drifting to sleep, the last of its scents wafts over to him, reminding him that he did your favorite blend today.

This must be a dream, he thinks.

When he opens his eyes he's met with the darkness of his office, the halls outside now dead quiet. Someone must have turned off the lights, as he slowly sits up from his position on the sofa.

Wait, when did he get here?

He surmises it must have been the club president or Diavolo, as they often come to his office to check in on him from time to time. Still, there's a weird feeling bubbling in his stomach, something that he hadn't felt in a while.

Why was his hand so warm?

It's then that he finally notices it— the soft, steady breathing of someone laid next to him. He stops himself from jumping in alarm, and just before his mouth opens in condemnation that some random demon went and slept with him while he was taking a nap—

"Mephisto? Are you awake now?"

A voice lulls him back to his senses.

He knows that voice. He knows it all too well.

He notices the hand clutching his; tightly, like they weren't going to let go anytime soon. He feels the lone pact on his wrist suddenly burst to life, like it never faded in the first place, and he finally realizes what was happening.

If this is a dream, please don't let it end, he pleads.

The figure sits up, still not letting go of his hand. He feels another hand carress his face in a warmth that he never thought he would feel again, before he finally locks eyes with the figure.

"It's not a dream. I'm home."

"You..." the words get caught in his throat, unable to say anything. He resorts to taking his free hand, the one shaking uncontrollably, as he returns the gesture of carressing your face. You lean into his touch, chasing the warmth it radiates.

He doesn't notice his tears starting to flow, nor does he notice you lean towards him in time to react as you kiss away the salted dew from his eyes. In true Mephisto fashion, he retaliates, like he always does, smashing his lips all over your face until it reaches yours, and you laugh as you finally feel his smile while taking in his fervent attempt of making up for lost time— hands still bound together, bodies falling back to the comfort of the couch, your name spilling out of his mouth everytime he catches his breath. In his arms, here,

you're home.

About the s3 trailer. We see Abe with a new girl, and we know her name is Mary. She might even be Mary Todd Lincoln's clone, Abraham Lincoln's wife.

Now let me tell you one thing, I don't care what you ship- if that will be a goal or not to you. We don't know the actual dynamic yet.

BUT

For the love of everything good, do not say the og Lincoln-Todd couple was cute- because it was not. This couple was toxic at best abusive at worst.

We have multiple proof of BOTH of their wrong behavior towards each other, who is more in the wrong is up to you. We know that Mary Todd choose to mary Lincoln because she wanted to be the wife of the president and he was a suitable "candidate". After chasing and working to be proposed to, Todd found herself being left at the altar. Lincoln abandoned his fiance because he was heartbroken his best friend was moving away, and expressed no regret towards it, he only came back because his friend forced him to.

Lincoln was an extremely neglectful husband, and we can go as far as saying he was cheating but this is if you beleive he had relations with other men.

Todd was very violent towards him and Lincoln's law partner, and friend, Herdon compiled proof of her abusive actions. Most of it is disregarded by alot of historian, which is frustrating to me.

This couple is romantized in most of Lincoln's media. Please don't make the same mistake and don't ignore the issue.

Imposter AU with a twist Part 2!

Tw: Swearing, a bit of yandere Albedo, Your friend is a horrible person and gets slapped on the face with some Karma and Trauma.

A/n: I didn’t want to keep saying ‘Your friend’ so I named her Bethany and Beth. Also I feel like this blog is more of a crackfic blog since there’s barely any serious writing. But hey it’s fun to write. Someone wanted it and I hope I met the expectations

Day’s and weeks and a single month has passed since you descended to Teyvat from the bottomless pits of hell. People are still after your head, the pick me imposter still has not been visited by Karma, and you got a yandere, kinda. I’m saying kinda because Albedo is possessive of you and that’s all…..for now.

During the month of being in Minecraft survival mode some more characters believed you’re the OG creator. That and they just can’t handle your friend, who I shall name Bethany. Sorry to all Bethany’s but Imma steal your name real quick.

Diluc is a good example of not handling Bethany. He has told you that she would cry when a man, his brother and five other men, don’t pay attention to her. She would tell Childe to get her the most expensive gift and throw it away afterwards. He finds her annoying and one point he told you “If I had to choose between Kaeya and….the girl. I would choose Kaeya right away. That’s how annoying she is.”

Now here comes the fun part of this AU. The finding out that the imposter is the OG creator. Like I said the last part Karma is gonna slap her face sooner and later, well Karma not only slapped her but gave her the ultimate shoe slap, with a boot and high heel.

In the Imposter AU the only thing to tell from Imposter and Real apart was the golden child blood test thingy. There is one way where I feel like would be more funny and that is the ‘accident’ way.

The accident way is probably the most funniest way of people finding out that they fucked up. Imagine this, Your walking back to where ever the failed experiment is to give him the flowers he needed. But along the way your arm got scratched by a random branch. This y/n is clumsy they bump into things a lot and whenever they do they just rub off the pain until they or someone else tells them that they’re bleeding. So back to the branch thing, you got scratched by the lonely piece of wood and kept walking. Only to cross a certain traveler and they’re somehow flying food.

They cross paths, Aether doesn’t bother looking and has a place to be. Paimon on the other hand saw the gold shimmering blood and was like “Wait a MINUTE!”

“You there! Paimon has a very serious question!” Paimon yelled out but you kept on walking ignoring her as if she’s a ghost. That was until paimon told Aether and Aether is now chasing after you. Like I know I need my daily dose of adrenaline but why it gotta be like this?

While running Aether was yelling and Venti being the little shit he is heard it in the wind. Don’t ask me how that makes sense he’s the god of air. Now venti is in front of you and let’s skip a hour or two after.

Scratch that make one hour turn into 3 hours of no stop arguing. Not between you and the worshipers or overly simps but between you and Bethany.

Bethany Heard that people found you and wanted to see you uh turn the bye bye life light on. So she came in the most ugliest dress ever in the mind of y/n.

While being surrounded by the archons as they looked at you with disgust. You were on the ground with a sword against your neck. The archons believe that you put gold glitter on your arm to get the chance of stealing their graces spot? Does glitter even exist in Tevyat?

“You go to such lengths to steal our graces spotlight?!” Yelled Zhongli still having the pole arm against your neck. You are just sitting there on the floor slightly terrified because my god scary archons are more scarier then your mom.

“Sir, I didn’t even have a choice to look like that Beth Meth girl. It’s called Genes. GEN-NET-ICS.” You called out making everyone yell out insults. All of a sudden Bethany comes walking down as the people spread out like the sea. Everyone bowed and said praises.

“You really wearing that dress? It looks like something that Carella Deville would wear and honey that’s not necessarily a good thing” and that sent the lighter to the bomb.

“Well at least I have more things then you do. I would have an entire world after you are dead.” Beth’s sassy ass said as everyone is just wondering if you two know each other. Not only are you two fighting but Diluc and Aether are having to hold back Albedo so he doesn’t do….bad things.

Back to Beth with the meth fighting match. The light you started finally reached the bomb having Bethany spill everything she has done, on earth and Teyvat out loud. My god she did more stuff than you thought.

That’s not even the tip of the ice burg and yet many many people are in a state of shock that they are frozen in place. Oh and albedo? Ya Diluc and Aether are having a struggle. With the bomb being set off nothing is stopping Bethany to say anything and everything she has done to you. What are you doing? Letting her scream and yell since Karma is coming closer and closer.

“Then when I was Teleported here people said I was a god! They treated me better than you! I got the attention I wanted! No one was gonna try and steal the spotlight if they did I would just send someone to kill them. I have men at my fingertips so if someone insulted me or I found the person annoying I would send them to kill the person. Easy Peasy just make up a reason and they’ll do it.”

After she said that many people gasped and a few people yelled “Is that why my son/daughter went missing/were found dead?!” Yeah what a shocker now. The once looked up god is now the imposter and committed more crimes then the Fatui. She was about to say more but you stopped her.

“You did all that? Dear you’re worse than the American government and the Fatui combined. I’ll tell you why people were nice to me and not you.” You stood up with you hands behind your back. No one stopped you they wanted to see what would happen. “I’m genuinely nice to people and they do it back but some don’t. Take yourself for example, I was nice to you. I checked up on you everyday to make sure you where ok but you did all this instead.”

Bethany’s face was more redder then Diluc and a tomato together. She was furious that you came an ruined everything. She started to shout nonsense as you backed away slowly. She didn’t notice so she kept throwing insults after insults while you were all the way in the back with albedo.

Some hydro slimes and cryo slimes were walking around her as they were just doing Slime things. But one electro slime made a mistake of walking in front of her and, by accident or not, zapping her feet slightly. She let out a screech and hopped from one foot to another. Since the hydro slimes were walking around her they made the ground slightly wet. Thanks to the cryo slimes they made the slightly wet ground icy and slippery.

So while she was hopping she slipped on the ice. Fortunately or unfortunately you guys were by a cliff of some sort. I think you know what happened, she fell down but survived as the cliff wasn’t that high. So yay?

After she fell you stood there for a few minutes before saying “Ah, Karma did give her a punch in the face after all……But that seemed planed.” You looked at the slimes with a suspicious face. The hydro slime just turned around and walked away while the electro slime was like “oh this Leaf on the floor is so interesting wow” what is the cryo slime doing? Looking over the cliff where Bethany feel almost mocking her. “Haha bish you slipped” is what the cryo slime is probably thinking.

What are your thoughts on the "beachification" of 1989? Like I really like the standard 1989tv cover (her smile!) but can't stand any of the variants. 1989 is just such an urban album to me... perhaps a good middle ground would have been doing the photoshoot at Coney Island? Still quintessential NYC but with beachy vibes?

I agree with this! I think the thing with 1989 is its duality and it’s fusion of differing things, and the way those form something beautiful.

It’s a girl advertising that she’s single and carefree now while being crushed inside with her heart broken. It’s thinking you’ve come of age, but still being green to the world in a lot of ways. Its color palette is pale pink and pastel blue, which (this is something I think about often in terms of her visual marketing prowess) Pantone had named their colors of the year for 2014, saying they couldn’t choose one because the yin and yang of them together was what was important (she would’ve chosen the color scheme after this happened). It’s pain and it’s freedom. Its nostalgic and it’s new. It’s city and it’s beach; skyscrapers and seagulls, red lipstick and sunglasses.

I think the stripping it of one half of the yin/yang that makes the visuals SING does an immense disservice to the record. I get it in a way - “she’s happy now ha ha! She wasn’t smiling on the OG cover!1!1! Now she is Clean! Doesn’t need to hide her face for mystery!!!!” But I think that just ignores the larger picture of what the album IS, in a way that throws things out of whack and damages the beauty of the whole package.

Hey! It seems a new Heracles novel will be published, called "HERC" (well, it is announced as a Greek Myth Retelling but they had to choose the Roman name LOL) The subtitle is "Hero, Huband, Father, Monster, Villain"... How can you naked Heracles the villain? It's quite ruthless, if we remember that the craziest shit he did (killing his wife & sons) was done because of Hera's magic. What are your feelings about it? I read somewhere that it's being announced as a "Querer Romance" (Heracles' "friend" Hylas and his nephew Iolaus will be included, it seems), but I don't have any hope about the nivel portraying gay relationships in a positive light TBH...

In such books the elements of the og myth look sooo thin in this retelling. Usually the worldbuilding is "yeah there was a palace with columns, and it was summer and it was SO HOT, and there was the sea and they were eating olives and praying to zeus like they are protestant Christians".

Not only my hopes are not high for this but the facepalming percent for this will also probably be high. I mean, creativity is good but I challenge you to go to random Greeks on the street and explain this book to them. The facial expressions you're gonna get will be PRICELESS

Another reason why this trend annoys me is that the readers will be like "omg I LOVE Greek myths" and their definition of "LOVE!" is "I'm reading every western absurd fantasy scenario available on the market, and have no idea about how the og culture sees its hero. This book is enough for me and apparently Hercules sucks".

Just...make another book at this point, with ancient magic and queer couples!

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

I headcanon that Claire (from the OG Diamond Cutters, RIP) was her first girlfriend. And then of course, Tangle is her current girlfriend.

But I also like shipping her with Lanolin. 👀 Don't get me wrong, I don't think this would be a particularly healthy relationship. I think they would both enable each other's worst tendencies without realizing that's what they're doing, even as they tried to help each other in terms of coping with their respective traumas or whatnot. But not all ships have to be healthy, and in a situation where the Restoration Civil War arc I've been imagining came to pass (which I'm starting to lose hope will happen in canon, but I can always write it myself if it doesn't), I could definitely see this happening since I do believe Whisper would choose Lanolin's side while Tangle would choose Sonic's, leading to their breakup.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

Her wisps! My biggest gripe with how Whisper is portrayed in canon is how little thought is given to her wisps. They aren't even given proper names, which is why I had to do find a way to do so while still adhering to how their colors are used in dialogue most of the time. But the wisps were partnered with the original Diamond Cutters; they were as much part of the team as the mobians were, and now they and Whisper are all that's left. So whenever I write stories where Whisper is the POV character, I make sure to include them as much as I can, because they're all she has left of her family, and she's all they have left, too. :(

After the wisps though, I also like how her relationship with Sonic has been portrayed. As much as I don't think she'd take his side in the Restoration Civil War arc (because she'd align more with Lanolin's "take the fight to Eggman and take him out" beliefs vs Sonic's "wait for Eggman to do something and then stop that and let him go" beliefs), she still clearly appreciates him as a friend, because of how respectful he is of her boundaries. Their moments together are always kind and soft, and it's nice. :)

My unpopular opinion about this character:

It's not really an opinion, but I guess just noticing and pointing out that Whisper has an attempted murder count of four in the comics so far? Because I remember getting into an argument with someone because they wanted to insist that Whisper wouldn't be able to kill Mimic, of all people, and so Silver should be the one to do it instead, when Whisper has canonically already tried to kill him twice and only didn't do it the second time because Tangle shielded him with her own body. (And only didn't do it the first time because she had to choose between killing him and saving Tangle, and she chose to save Tangle.) And she's also tried to kill Eggman twice, only stopping the first time because Cream shielded Eggman with her body, and the second time she did shoot him through the heart, but it didn't take because of Eggman's trap sticking her eeby deeby. I got accused of wanting to see Whisper as a brutal killer or a murderer or whatever, and it's just -- no? I'm just recognizing what is textual for her character, which is: if she determines that someone is an irredeemable villain, and she has a chance to kill them, she WILL take the shot. This is especially true if she has a personal vendetta with them, as she does with Eggman and ESPECIALLY with Mimic. I don't know if it's because she's a female character, because she's ordinarily soft-spoken and shy, or both that make some people want to ignore that about her, but it's nonetheless true. There are two characters generally aligned with the heroes (as in, against the villains) in this series who can be counted on to take the shot, and those characters are Shadow and Whisper. And apparently that's an unpopular opinion, but IMO it's not an opinion. It's just fact lmao.

(One could also argue Omega, but I think Omega only destroys badniks, so I'm not sure that really counts here. I think Whisper and Shadow are the only ones who'd take out humans / mobians like Eggman and Mimic.)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

Aside from her wisps getting to have actual names / be more present characters as mentioned above (it's not like it's unheard of -- Lanolin's wisp is named Maggie!), I had to write a fix-it fic after the debacle of making her apologize about being upset over Tangle using the name Diamond Cutters for the new squad that Lanolin set up. Don't misunderstand, there was something Whisper did need to apologize for -- namely, trying to leave without saying goodbye prior to the Trial By Fire arc -- but she had every right to be upset with Tangle for using the name Diamond Cutters. That wasn't her name to use, and I think that it was glossed over too quickly, even though I do understand that they couldn't spend pages upon pages of comic space discussing it, lol. (Oh, and I had to show the wisps having opinions about it, too, because again, they were part of the original team, this affected them, too!)

Other than that, it would be nice to get to see Whisper having fun and being happy more often, as she was in the Endless Summer issue. She has been through so much; she deserves to actually smile and enjoy herself sometimes :') it would be nice to see that again.

Okay, in all seriousness... I would be the worst person for Solomon to rely on lol

I completely understand and even support what he's trying to accomplish. Solomon wants humans to be viewed as equals because yes, we aren't the weaklings that demons and angels may think we are. We are strong, resilient, tenacious, and special in our own ways. We can be just as cruel and devious as demons, but also just as genuinely kind and compassionate as angels. We all possess those qualities.

From a personal standpoint, though... As disgustingly selfish as this is, why would I as an individual ever choose to turn my back against the demons who have pretty much become my family who I deeply love and cherish just to instigate or support a war where I would be siding with humanity as a whole? Because I'm a human? No thanks, I'll pass.

!! Potential Spoilers Ahead !!

I know in this specific timeline, the brothers aren't close with us like they are in the OG game. But that doesn't change my feelings for them nor all of the events and shenanigans we've been through with them.

Also, maybe Solomon is forgetting or simply ignorant to these very important facts :

How many times did MC risk their life for the brothers?

MC gave a portion of their lifeforce to Beel in the Reaper's Cave. MC (was given the choice to) stab themselves in order to spare Lucifer's life. MC also forgave Belphie for legit killing them/a version of themselves. Just to name a few.

MC also supported all of the brothers so many times, and they all supported, defended, and protected MC in return.

Sure, that was all in the "present" timeline. But it still happened as far as I'm concerned.

And let's not forget the fact that Lucifer and his brother's lowkey threatened to dismember Solomon if he doesn't bring MC back safe and sound. So again... Why would I turn my back on their past versions just because demons or angels as a whole may not view humans as "equal"?

To be perfectly fair, some humans are pretty despicable. I've had more bad experiences than not with humans, some of which who were supposed to love and protect me yet did the complete opposite. I still continue to see the bad in some humans just through their words and actions (or lack thereof). While that may not be all of humanity's fault, it still has left me with deep scars and a long lasting negative/biased opinion on humans, society, and humanity.

And as far as humans being viewed as equal... I think it would be much more impactful and significant for individual humans to directly prove to demons and angels just how worthy of recognition they truly are. Solomon and MC can both do that together instead of instigating an all out war.

Just look at how much MC accomplished in OG Obey Me! Lucifer, Mammon, Levi, Satan, Asmo, Beel, Belphie, Barbatos, Diavolo, Solomon, and Simeon are all "dateable".

Why would a demon or an angel want to romance a human if they didn't view that human as an equal? They all even say how special MC is. That's a perfect opportunity for MC to dangle the fact that they are indeed human in front of the boys, yet they still have feelings for MC regardless. In other words : "admit humans are just as capable as demons and angels, or call yourself a hypocrite right here and now".

Not only that, but their current actions could affect the present, right? Then why would we even entertain the idea of going to war with them? How would that affect the present and MC's relationships with the brothers, Diavolo, Barbatos, and Simeon?

So yeah... You have my deepest apologies, Solomon, but you are completely alone on this one. I could never bring myself to turn my back on the brothers, even if they all wanted me dead.

And honestly, I think the game is also hinting that MC won't go along with Solomon's plan or will at least try to find an alternative solution, considering we were given the choice to hand the grimoire over to Lucifer instead of using it on him (even though he was legit threatening us moments beforehand)

We'll have to wait to see what happens next, but as it stands right now... I applaud Solomon's drive and desire for humanity to stand next to demons and angels rather than remain beneath them... But I'm definitely not on board with what he's asking of us.

He would have a better chance at asking me to side with him directly instead of humanity as a whole, since I wouldn't want anything bad to happen to Solomon. But still, you can count me out, my eccentric and misinformed teacher ~

So ignore me while I rant for a moment about a potential Fadeshock AU:

I was thinking of Fadeshock(obviously) and I was thinking about the type of Pokémon they would have in that type of AU. (Watch out I’m about to nerd and this is gonna be a lot of Pokémon lore)

So obviously Neon would have a specialty in Electric types with high SPD and Sp.Atk stats. And I was thinking at first she’d have a Pikachu or maybe a Pichu with her then I thought of a better one:

Electrike! One of the OG electro dogs! Neon seems like a dog person and what better Pokémon to run at top speed with than an electric puppy! I was contemplating Yamper, but I realized that Yamper doesn’t really have the wild aesthetic that Electrike does.

Anyways that brings me to Fade. Obviously she would specialize in Ghost/Dark type pokemon. Mostly in Sp.Atk stats and maybe Sp.Def. I was thinking of the dozens of possibilities based on simple abilities they have, mixed with the type of company Fade would keep and I came up with a couple options:

First up is Banette. I was researching and discovered multiple compatibilities with Fade in its Pokedex entries over the years. It’s said to once have been a doll that was forgotten then abandoned, and hatred transformed it into a pokemon. It seeks vengeance upon the child that abandoned it. It’s insides are filled with hatred and curses, stopped only by the zipper across its lips.

But also, it’s said to wait for the day that someone comes along and treats it finally with the care it once had. That type of Pokémon is something I thought would resonate well with Fade both in battles, and in general.

But that wasn’t the only option.

Next up is Zorua! The reason I chose this one isn’t just because it’s a ghost type, but because of its history as well. It’s Pokédex entry says that it protects itself by transforming into Pokémon and people(mostly children). It does this because it’s both timid, and terribly curious.

But while it’s normal form is enough, it’s HISUIAN form is created out of sheer malice. It was created from the souls of dead Zorua that died alone after being shunned by humans. Then I read that it’s evolution, Zoroark, is hostile towards anyone unfamiliar to it, but had “compassion towards those it considers family”

Sound familiar?

so I was thinking “what would be the perfect joint pokemon between Fade and Neon? What type of Pokémon would resonate with them both?”

THEN IT HIT ME

I present the Fadeshock pokemon:

I didn’t just choose this one because it seems like a Electric/Ghost type. (It’s actually a Ghost/Fairy type). I chose it specifically because of the lore surrounding it. (And kinda because it would aesthetically match them both lol)

BASICALLY it’s a Pokémon that has to cover its true body because someone had died from shock when it revealed it’s true form to them years ago. In fear of hurting another, it hides itself. Sounds familiar to how Fade forces herself to stay awake and spend every moment trying to keep Nightmare from hurting the other agents. Also, sounds like how Neon has to wear the back brace thing to keep her Radiance in check and not electrocute anyone.

Not only that, BUT, also it’s said to be terribly lonely, and disguised itself like Pikachu because of Pikachu’s popularity, in the chance that it would be loved the same way. What better Pokémon for lonely kindred spirits?

Anyways thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. My brain is full of these and I can even name the other agents Pokémon’s too lol.

i love that there are a couple traits consistent among seemingly all spider-man variants. their wit, they’re dorky-ness, their intelligence. their queerness

but i think my favorite has got to be their artistic creativity. the og peter parker takes photos, miles draws + graffitis, gwen plays the drums, hobie plays guitar, etc.

which only just adds to the un-spider-man-ness of movie!miguel that he, seemingly, doesn’t have any artistic interest or pursuits. his life is so consumed by this need to justify his trauma and make it useful that he doesn’t have anything to healthily express himself and have fun through. he doesn’t have any room left for any personality because he’s too busy being a leader and a weapon.

this also plays into that quick little line from miles in the counselor's office where he mentions not doing much art anymore,,,he's so consumed by this one mission of his (similar to miguel) to figure out how to travel across universes to meet his friends (falsely thinking that will just automatically solve his loneliness) that he's losing that art that makes him happy, purposefully ignoring it because it's not "useful". i think it's also relevant to note that gwen, the character who's defined by her aimlessness, (literally her only goal is survival. like just the bare minimum of "don't be homeless tomorrow", just simple, normal, human self-preservation) opens the movie by going to town on her drum set. on the opposite end of the spectrum miguel and miles are on, she has no goal at all and is fully leaning into her artistic abilities for comfort. ultimately, the difference lies in where these characters are choosing to find comfort. in the pursuit of a singular goal that suppresses emotion in the name of efficiency, or in moment-to-moment explosive self expression that doesn't ultimately make strides towards an end goal?

(honorable mention: hobie and his music. the guitar, ie his art, symbolic of being in touch with your emotions, is something he keeps close with him and uses productively in pursuit of his goals. it's strong, but focused. he's very in control of it. he has figured out how to hit a perfect balance between the two, adding to this big brother/mentor image in relation to gwen and miles.)

Ahh New York my boyyy I'm so happy!! Sorry I didn't really see this earlier so I'm answering it kind of a lot later than when you sent it

Come to think of it, most of the hcs I've had for this adorable cat are actually angst-filled 😭😭 (sorry NY 🥲) so let's see what I've got...

Hmm okay so he's old, right? Like maybe not to the OG 13 but for the rest of the states he definitely acts like a grandpa without even meaning to. Gov has banned Vermont from having any maple syrup in the statehouse ever since a disastrous dentist trip? Oh no, who took him outside during the winter to make maple taffy?? What's that - he looked sad, New York? Hmm alrighttt thennn... ✨️✨️

Also I feel like he gives great hugs. Hugs from New York are rare but the best, so even through they're infrequent, they're to die for. Some of the younger states in the west have had physical brawls over who gets to cuddle with New York first when he's in a good mood. New York is amazing at comforting people, because despite the 'leave-me-alone-I-don't-care' attitude he displays, man's got a heart of gold and is wonderful at helping people stop crying.

Also he's not just good at hugging others. He himself loves being cuddled, but you'll never hear it from him. After a long tiring day of work (he is definitely a workaholic I don't even need to explain this about him), he goes up to the other NE states or Loui (because if you don't love Loui, then you're the problem - not him) and just curls up by their side like a cat (obviously). Whoever he chooses will usually just sit there in the silence and relax with him, since he doesn't talk much as it is - preferring to let his actions speak for themselves - so when he's tired there's no way you're hearing much from him.

He loves music. He tries to go at least once every weekend to the park and listen to his favourite punk rock songs (I don't know any so I can't give examples here) while feeding the pigeons there.

Speaking of pigeons, those creatures love him and he loves them. He could just be out on the street with another state and one of these birds will come up to him to perch on his shoulder. Also rats. This is, unsurprisingly, a major source of his arguments with the others but he will keep a few as pets all the time. He once tried to make a sanctuary dedicated solely to pigeons and rats. Following disasters unforeseen (only by him), he now sticks to bird-feeders in his balcony and keeping the occasional pocket-warmer rat in his jacket.

His black jacket is his favourite thing to wear. Unless he's going to an event wherein he absolutely feels it wouldn't be right to wear (and he should know, after all, since New York is recognised as the official capital of US fashion apparently - ignore this time's Fashion Week, we all have bad years), he will adorn it all the time. It's practically a part of his personality now; one of his defining features.

Another thing that he rarely ever opens is his red beanie (I'm ignoring his current outfits in recent videos, only other thing I really like is that grey T-shirt with "New York vs Everyone Else" or something like that. I hope to someday have a shirt like that but with my name instead). I'm not the first to say this but he has the fluffiest hair. He doesn't let many touch it, or touch him in general, but those who he cuddles up with when tired will unreservedly stroke his hair because it's so calming for both of them...but NY was not the one who said this.

Roses are a love language in themselves and he expressed his love with them. He knows exactly what each type of rose represents, and not only does he give them out to people accordingly, but he also helps the other states give someone they adore the right roses. He's even aided some of the states into their present relationships too. Flowers in general are also something he likes, and he even keeps a garden filled with them during the right seasons.

Also since the UN World Headquarters are located in New York, he gets along well with the other countries too, consequently keeping in touch with IDC a lot. I firmly believe that he was the one to teach her stuff like diplomacy and all that, just as I think he was the one who really taught Gov how to run a nation and make a country stronger. This doesn't really come in wholesome NY hcs exactly but I do have some thoughts about this so if you want me to I'll elaborate on them.

I didn't really have many wholesome headcannons either so I've given some other ones as well too hope that's fine. Thanks for your ask and do give me more in the future! I'd love to answer them! I really don't mind being asked for hcs.
