A bit long, but then again… when aren’t they?

Sabrina as out in the meet up point where she waited for Taehyung, her best friend and crush. She had her head down in her phone as she played a game when a voice she hated sounded.

“Hey love.” She cringed and her eyes rolled at the sound of her ex’s voice. She paid it no mind and pretended he wasn’t near her. “Bri, hey babe…”

Her head shot up realizing the girl he had called out to was her. Her face was clear of any emotion as she looked at him, “Can I help you, Jungwoo?”

He grinned as he threw out his arms to hug her. She side stepped out of his line of vision as he went to hug her to only get air. “After all this time, you’re still so cold to me?” He whined. “How many times do I have to say I’m sorry… That bitch meant nothing to me.”

“I could careless who you sleep with. We’re not together and I’m happier without you.”

Jungwoo wore a cocky smile, “You, the neediest girl in the world, are happy being single? As if.”

“Who said I was single?” She commented back. She silently cursed as she knew she was digging herself in a hole, but she didn’t seem to stop her mouth. “I’m with Taehyung. You remember him” her lips twitched, “The one you were sure wanted to get with me while we dated… Well, turns out you were right.”

“I don’t believe it” her ex scoffed. “We both know that Taehyung would never date you. Maybe sleep with you and add you to his list of sluts, but date?” He chuckled. Sabrina bit her lip as she knew there wasn’t much she could do to sway him. “Why don’t we ditch the charade and I can take you on a date to show you how sorry I really am?”

“I already told you, I don’t care who you sleep with. We broke up a year ago. I’m with Tae now” she lied. Her ex gripped her wrist tightly and she saw how his eyes darkened in rage, “Let. Me. Go.” Her voice cracked as she tried to pull his hand off hers.

Taehyung grinned when he saw Sabrina at the meet up point, but it quickly fell. He saw the bastard that broke his crush’s heart holding her by the wrist. “Hey Rina!”

Sabrina’s ears perked and she felt her ex’s grip lax. She took the chance to pull away from him and rush to Taehyung, “Babe, you’re here!” She threw her arms around his neck and startled him, “Sorry for this…” She whispered in his ear before she leaned up and pressed her lips to his.

Taehyung didn’t think twice as he kissed her back passionately. His hands encircled her waist. His head tilted deepening the kiss. Sabrina gasped at the sudden shift and he took the opportunity to slip his tongue in her mouth.

Sabrina broke the kiss first as her lungs screamed for air. Her eyes widened as she covered her mouth in shock. She looked back to see her ex long gone. “Jeez, what was that all about? I was just going for a small kiss.”

Taehyung licked his lips still tasting hers on his. “It’s your own fault you kissed me first. I’ve wanted to kiss you for years” his eyes trained on her as she looked back at him.

She felt her face burn as she let out an awkward cough, “Well, I definitely didn’t mind it.” She bit her lip which only made Taehyung crave to kiss her again.

He smirked, “You want another one?” Though she didn’t answer, the bashful way she acted was more than enough of an answer for him. His thumb swiped her bottom lip as he fought the urge to kiss her again. He reached for her hand and took it in his own, “How about this… I take you out on a date. You like it and I’ll kiss you again.”

She brushed her hair behind her ear, “I’d like that.”

With his large box smile, Taehyung laughed in relief as he led Sabrina to a cafe, one he had always wanted to take her. Their fingers intertwined and never parted the entire way to the cafe.

Jungkook

Jungkook was protective to his best friend, Callie. She was like a little sister to him. He was the one who got police involved when Callie’s abusive ex poured coffee on her in a cafe and when that same ex broke down her door. Jungkook refused to let that man get away with hurting Callie and he took extra steps to keep her protected.

He helped Callie get a different job, move to a safer more secure complex, and got her a new phone and phone number as the police never held her ex in custody for long.

It had been a year and a half since Callie last saw her ex and she felt like the likelihood of running into him as big as Seoul was slim. She sent Jungkook a quick text to let him know she was going out for a walk before she headed out the door and to the darkness of the night. She pulled her jacket tighter against her as she made her way out the alleyway from her apartment and onto the main street. She sucked in the crisp fall air as she made her way out to the local park.

Once there, she felt her phone vibrate and when she pulled it out she saw Jungkook’s ID name. She answered it and pressed her phone to her ear, “Heeeeyyyy” she smiled.

“Don’t you hey me. Why are you going out this late?” Jungkook asked with a older brother authoritative tone. “I’ll be there in a minute, hyung!” He called out. “Where are you?”

“Are you still at work? Why are you calling me?”

“Don’t change the subject” he hissed. “You shouldn’t be out this late. Especially not alone.”

She leaned on the rail as she gazed at the people on the basketball court start to leave. “I’m fine, Jungkook” she shrugged. “I’m at the park near my place.”

“Callie!” A growl came from behind her at a distance.

She stilled at the voice, “Callie, who was that?” Jungkook asked in a panic.

She turned to see her ex at the entrance just feet away. “Jungkook…” She let out a whimper, “He’s here…”

He stomped towards her as she back away in a panic. “Who the fuck are you talking to, you bitch?” He snatched her phone from her. She tried to take the moment to run, but he grabbed her by the hair and yanked her back. “Did I tell you to leave, fucking useless bitch?” He threw her phone to the pavement when he saw Jungkook’s name. “So you’re sleeping with Jungkook, huh?” She cried as he pulled her hair tighter. “I asked you a question!”

The sound of tires screech didn’t get her ex to let up as he raised a hand to her. However, before he could strike her, he was punched in the face. His hand untangled from her hair and another set of arms pulled her away from him.

Jungkook stood there ready to strike again as his jaw clenched. His eyes were dark with rage, “Who the fuck do you think you are touching my girlfriend like that?”

Her ex stumbled as he held his jaw. He let out a low chuckle, “Your girl, huh? I always knew she was a fucking slu–”

Jungkook didn’t hesitate as he swung once more at her ex, but he dodged it. He stood protectively in front of Callie as her ex stepped back. Though he could lay a hand on Callie, he was never one to try another man. Jungkook held up his fist to intimidate her ex, “I’ll give you three seconds to get the fuck out of our sights or I swear next swing, I won’t miss. Don’t approach my girlfriend again.” Her ex scrambled from the location and Jungkook let out a breath. He ruffled his hair as he turned his attention to Callie, “Did he hurt you?” He cooed as he looked at her disheveled hair. A cry bubbled from her lips before she broke into a sob. Jungkook took her into his arms and held onto her tightly, “It’s okay… You’re safe now.”

Once she calmed down, Jungkook led her to the car where Jin waited. “How’d you get here so fast?” She whispered as she climbed inside.

Jin started the car as Jungkook climbed in the back with her, “Our photo-shoot was right up the road. I was just going to run here, but since we were going to go home, Jin hyung decided to drive me here. Do you want to grab some clothes from your place first?” He asked. She gave him a questioning look and he let out an exasperated sigh. “You really think I’m letting you go back to your apartment with that fucker–”

“Language!” Jin hissed.

Jungkook rolled his eyes, “You’re staying at our place until I can find you a different apartment.” She went to protest, but he was having none of it, “This isn’t up for debate. Until– he gets arrested again, you won’t feel safe at your place, am I right?” She nodded in defeat. “Hyung, we’re going to swing by her place and get her clothes, okay?” Jin let out a sound as he pulled away from the park and drove to her place.

The ride to BTS’s apartment was quiet and Callie was curled against Jungkook the entire time. She felt safe in his arms. He had let her know that they would go to the police tomorrow morning to file a report because he knew she wasn’t up to it that night.

Lost At Sea

Hey! This is a fic based off of two drawings done by the amazing @thelazyblueshipper who gave me permission to write a fic!

Warnings: blood mention, ghosts, kidnapping (its too a mermaid) and let me know if I need to tag anything else!

Roman had wanted to do it for years, ever since the pirates found out about them. Ever since they started to take, kill, sell their kind.

Roman wanted to stop them.

But Logan wouldnt let him.

"Its too dangerous Roman! As long as we stay farther down and away from nets, we can be safe."

"But then we have no freedom! We are confined to the deep waters only! We have to watch how fast we go, we can even float on the surface to sunbath!"

"But if they catch us, we die." Logan spat. "If we go after them, we Will get caught, then what do you suggest we do?"

Roman fell silent, not able to make a reasonable agrument.

"There are ships we could fix up easily and-"

"No Roman."

That had been the end of that argument.

"Help! Help!" Patton sped through the water in search of someone, anyone who could help.

He found Roman and Logan, who had heard him and came as fast as they could.

"Patton! Calm down padre, what's wrong? Predator? Underwater volcano?"

"Virgil!" Pattin cried.

Logan looked around."where....is Virgil? Patton what happened?"

Patton's tears floated in thw water. "I just wanted to go above for a little bit, i didnt know they were so close! I didnt know there net was so close!"

The rest was lost in cries, but it was obvious what happened. Virgil had saved Patton but got caught by pirates instead.

"Roman." Logan starred at the water above them.

"We need a ship."

Luckily, Roman knew were a ship was in...ok condition and not filled with water completely.

"How did you even find this?" Patton asked as they arrived at a small islabd with an old ship on it. It had a hole in the side and a broken mast,but was rather alright.

"Before we started to stay under, I found it."

"We better get to work if we want to get Virgil back before they reach a port then." Logan was still unsure, but...they couldnt just leave Virgil,to be sold or...killed, if he wasnt already.

It took a few days to fix the ship, but they found swords, and old clothes they could wear when they transform in homaniod forms. Roman was the self proclaimed captain, with logan as the firdt mate who has some common since. Patton was the one incharge of leading the way to Virgil right now.

But logan still worried. They only had three people, a small, barely afloat ship, and they are all secretly mermaids. They were up agianst a full pirate crew, on a big ship, who catch mermaids.

They needed a plan.

"We need a plan." Logan said one night. "We can't just attack, we will be killed or captured."

Patton looked down."if I just stayed away..."

"Patton, we have been over this, it isnt your fault, and we sre gdtting virgil back." Roman said, tilting his captain's hat up.

Patton sniffled but nods, pushing his new glasses up. (He put on a random pair and found out that he can see a lot better with them, same with Logan)

Logan,nods as he thought."we could go under the cover of night, but even then they will have people awake and ready to fight..."

"What about during a storm?" Roman suggested.

"What?"

"Well they will be busy with the storm right? We can show hi in mermaid form, get in, pretend to be part of the crew, get virgil out and only have the fight if we get caught." Roman suggested.

Patton lit up."that could work! Its dark during storms, and...and if they see our patched up ship, they can think its a ghost ship!"

Logan nods along as he listened. "It...could work...that we need some way to have our clothes when we are in the water so we can change quickly..."

Roman hummed."we could...get dressed on there ship?"

Logan shook his head."too wierd and supious."

"We could pretend to be crew members who fell over?" Patton suggested.

Logan nods, "yes...but only one of us, it will be easier to get one then...and other two will stay on the ship and act as ghosts." He grinned ad the plan started to come together.

Virgil didnt know how much time past. He remembered pushing Patton away from a net, just cor his tall to get caught, he remmebered being hauled up over the ocean. He remembered being out in a barrel filled with water, and a lid being put on with holes so he could breath. But he lpst count of the days and nights he spent in there.

He had given up after day two, accepting his fate.

He could feel a few rain drops through the holes in the lid, and couls hear yelljng do the ship didnt get blown off course.

Then he heard screams for help.

A scream from the water.

That sounds way to familiar.

Pattin was screaming for help. They caught him.

Virgil started to fight inside the barrel, knowing full well that it was tied up so he coulsnt move it or knock it over, but he ahd to try. Patton was in danger. Why wasn't Roman or Logan with him!

He could hear pattin on the ship.

"Thank you, i fell off in the storm."

Wait, what?

He couldnt hear much after that, because there was yelling about a...ghost...ship?

It wasnt long before his barrel was opened and Patton stared st hin in human form. He,smiled and held a finger to hus mouth to tell Virgil to stay quiet. Held helped Virgil out of the barrel and threw him over into the ocean, and Patton jumped in after him, transforming once he was in the water and gathering up his clothes.

"Hey Virgil, long story short, we need to get to the pirate ship."

"But we just got off it!" Virgil said, before coughing. He hasn't used his voice in a while. Patton just grabbed his hand and swam to a different, smaller boat.

Patton helped viegil onto the boat and Virgil saw Roman and Logan standing and facing the other boat in human forms, as if daring them to attack in thus storm.

Patton put on his clothes as he got out some for Virgil. "Ok, short story longer, im so sorry I got you captured! We fixed up an old boat Roman found and came up with a plan to save you. I pretend to have fallen overboard in a storm, they gwt me up, i fins you, Roman and Logan pretend to be pirates on a ghost ship, and we are all free!" By the time he finished talking, Virgil was dressed and then hugged tightly.

"Im sorry i wasnt more careful Virgil...you could have been..could have..could...could have..." Patton sniffles aa he held virgil tight.

Virgil hugged back."im right here pat, i promise, id do it agian to save you in a heartbeat."

The ship turned away from the other and left the storm. Once a safe distance away, Virgil was covered in hugs.

Virgil smiled as he stood and loked st his pirate clothes, "ya know guys...why dont we do this all the time?"

"Uh Virgil, I dont think getting caught is something id like to makw a habit." Roman suggested.

"No, i mean...saving mermaids. You guys have a plan that worked. And with an extra person, you have a bigger crew. Why cant we save more of our kind before we are the only ones left?"

"I agree with Virgil." Patton smiled. "And i like being in the sun." He giggled.

Roman tipped his hat grinning. "And ive been wanting to do this forever!"

They all looked st Logan. The first mate. The logical one. The one who fixes plot holes and makes sure everyone is safe.

He gave a smile. "Well, we have to name the ship first, dont we?"

It took a while, but soon, a legend was born for the small crew.

Legends that say that if you are a pirate crew transporting mermaids, avoid storms.

For in a storm, you will come across a ship called 'the Siren' with ghosts on it.

No one knows how many are on the ship. They only know that there are always four who will always be seen at one point.

There is a boy with square glasses and a dark blue bandana around hus forehead. If you see him in the ship, watch him, for if he gets into the water, your ship will sink.

Then there is a boy with round glasses, and a light blue scarf around his waist. He seems sweet, but it will be too late when you realize it is him. He is a spy who boards your ships as crew. He is the reason you get caught.

There is a boy with purple hair and eyes. Much like dark blue, beg that he stays on the ghost ship. If you don't see him, then you must fear everything around you. You never know what he will take. Food, gold, your life, maybe all three.

Then there is the captain, who stands at the end of the bowsprit, sword held at his side. It is said that his eyes are red with the blood of those who he has fought, and if you get close enough to see the color, he will add your blood to his eyes as well.

The legends warns you to be wary of boys with light blue eyes on on your ship. To stay clean of storms. To release mermaids when you see the ship, so many you will live to tell about the encounter.

Legend says that it is safer to let mermaids be free.

And done! First off, i know i kinda skipped around, but in happy with how thiz this turned out!

Also! Some things i wanted to to say! The crew does get bigger. Some mermaids they save decide to,join, others will stay until they heal if they are injured then leave. Others stay to repay a debt, so the amount of crew members change.

At the end, the legend talks about each side a bit, and i wsnt to explain why i chose to do that the way i did!

Logan is logic. He is smart and you can do a lot of damage (probably) to the bottom of a boat if you know what your doing. He breaks boats (with help from other crew members) to make them sink. But only some.

Patton is morality. He is cute and sweet and he volunteered to be the spy. He joins crews and finds out how many mermaids are on board and finds a way to get the ship into a storm. Sometimes he will disappear from a crew ship a few days ans reappear like he never left. He swims right under it and will go inform the sides about the boat by leaving at night.

Virgil as Aniexty. He causes fear. Patton will tell him were gold is, food rations, and on occasion, jerks who need to be taught a permanent lesson. He sneaks on and steals, throws overboard, does anything to inconvence the pirates.and because well...they are pirates,too, they need money!

Roman is creativity. And he is the captain. And what js scarier than the red eyss he has? He started the rumoe about his eyes himself, and does sword fight on occasion. I just feel it fits him to stand dramatically xD

Zack grit his teeth and waited. Even once lights and noises stopped again, Zack could not bring himself to feel guilty. He could not see Kunsel’s eyes beneath his helmet, but Zack could still feel them watching him, “Damn, man, I’m not sure I want to know what happened to you…”

“And you want to know everything about everything.” Zack said with a grim chuckle.

Zack was surprised when Kunsel directed him down a sidestreet toward Sector Four instead of toward Shinra H.Q. It must have shown, despite his face being covered, because Kunsel explained without waiting for Zack to ask, “Once Sephiroth was KIA and you disappeared, I realized that it might be smart to start formulating an escape plan. I’ve got an apartment with enough supplies to keep someone for a while. You tell me what the hell is going on and you can stay there as long as you need to.”

Zack thought on it a moment, but there really was no safer choice, “I get to take a shower before we do anything else.”

“Are you kidding?” Kunsel asked, his lips quirking up in a smile, “That was going to be one of my requirements.”

He spent an obscene amount of time showering, just glad to finally be clean for the first time in years. Zack checked over his body again, surprised to find that not one of the bullet wounds he had taken had left a mark. He also grimaced when he realized he could practically count each rib. He had been working so desperately to keep himself and Cloud alive, but they had done without a lot. Honestly, he was surprised he had lasted as long as he had against the Army with how malnourished he was.

When he finally climbed out, there was a new First Class uniform folded on the counter. He remembered the day he had finally been promoted, so excited to put on the uniform until he understood the implications. A small part of him longed for the simpler days when he had been a Second Class Soldier, with Angeal to watch out for him.

Kunsel frowned a bit when Zack stepped out of the bathroom, “Sorry, man, I’m sure the last thing you probably want to wear is that uniform, but-”

“Don’t sweat it.” Zack waived his apology off, “It could be a dress, as long as it was clean.”

“I’ll keep that in mind for when I go shopping,” Kunsel teased, “Come on, I ordered up some dinner while you were getting cleaned up. Why don’t you bring me up to speed while we eat?”

They passed the food back and forth, Kunsel waiting until Zack had taken his fill before taking any for himself. Zack guessed he was not the only one who realized he was too thin. He was more grateful than he could say to his old friend. He ate slowly, but steadily, telling Kunsel about Nibelheim and what had come after.

He could see Kunsel’s temper grow shorter and shorter, until he pushed his plate away during Zack’s description of the ambush from that afternoon. He finished the story with a wry chuckle, “I passed out from blood loss and woke up several hours later without a mark on me. Honestly, if my shirt hadn’t been shot to shreds, I would have guessed the whole thing was a dream… plus, I followed Cloud’s trail into Midgar.”

“There haven’t been any reports of a blond First Class Soldier popping up anywhere…” Kunsel murmured, pulling out his phone and checking through his messages, “I’m guessing he got past the checkpoint and went to ground.”

“I hope so.” Zack sighed and finally pushed his own plate away, “He was in a bad way, Kunsel. If he relapses or if the wrong people find him…”

Kunsel came back to the table and squeezed Zack’s shoulder, “I’ll put the contacts I trust on alert. If anyone bumps into your friend, I’ll let you know. What are you going to do, once you find him?”

“No idea.” Zack scrubbed his hands over his face, “We were coming to Midgar to get him help for the mako poisoning. I… wanted to see Aeris again, too, but it’s too dangerous. She’s been writing me letters all this time. The last one made it to me by dumb luck… and it really was the last one. It sounds like she’s ready to move on and maybe I should let her. She could do better than a fugitive running from Shinra.”

“You’re a better man than I am.”

Zack’s chuckle was dark and broken, “Right.”

“Listen, I think it would be best if you tried to get some extra sleep.” Kunsel nodded down the hallway toward some closed doors, “The door on the left is the spare bedroom. Get some sleep in a real bed and I’ll start doing some recon. I’ll put in for some leave, too, so I can restock this place without anyone getting suspicious. I’ve spent my leave here for a few years now, so it’ll be a good cover.”

Zack stopped Kunsel before he could put his helmet back on and head for the door, “Listen, I appreciate what you’re doing for me. You’re putting yourself in some serious danger here-“

“If Sephiroth, Genesis, Angeal and you are all dispensable, I’m already in danger.” Kunsel gave him a lopsided smile, “I’ve been looking for a reason to quit for years. I have a half dozen legitimate plans to disappear without a trace from Shinra. I’ve just been waiting for… I don’t know, something. I guess your coming back was that something. Let’s get you back into shape, find Cloud, and get the hell out of here.”

“That sounds like a plan, if ever there was one.” Zack agreed, letting the man usher him off to bed.

True to his word, Kunsel came back with a bag packed for a week of leave and enough food to feed them both. He helped Zack come up with a believable disguise and gave him a fake identification card, in case he needed to take a train or was stopped by a patrol. During that week, they made plans for their life after Shinra. Kunsel had laughed a bit at Zack’s suggestion of becoming mercenaries, but agreed that monster hunting and private security work were both becoming very lucrative fields. All that they needed was to find Cloud.

That ended up being far more difficult than either of them expected. Even with Kunsel’s considerable network of contacts and Zack’s ongoing search of the city by foot, he never managed to find Cloud. Kunsel had confirmed that the same checkpoint that had admitted him had noted a strange Soldier enter the city, but they had been trained to not disrupt Soldiers on missions and this Soldier had the air of someone who was not to be disturbed. The trail went cold after that and neither of them had been able to pick it back up.

It was several months before things changed - a reactor explosion in Sectors One and Two, the plate falling in Sector Seven, and a frantic, late night phone call from Kunsel to tell him that Cloud had stormed the Shinra building to rescue several research samples. He was halfway to Shinra H.Q. when Kunsel sent a second message about the death of Shinra Sr.

Pinned to his desk by the Masamune, if Palmer’s to be believed. Not entirely sure I do, but are you sure that Sephiroth is dead?

Your friend is being blamed. If he doesn’t get out of the building, he’ll be executed.

Zack gave up all pretense of a disguise and moved toward H.Q. with all the speed of a Soldier.

It was too little, too late. By the time he arrived, the building was surrounded by Infantry and Soldiers, waiting for anyone to come out of the doors. Before Zack could even attempt to come up with an idea, there was a fantastic crash as a window on the side of the building exploded and a motorcycle and truck flew through the air and onto the highway. There was no mistaking the head of spiky blond hair on the driver of the motorcycle.

He was not surprised when Kunsel appeared at his side a few minutes later with the emergency pack he kept at H.Q. in case he had to leave in a hurry, “Scarlet is going to deploy one of her new robot weapons, if the Army doesn’t catch them first. They’ve got a head start, but if you hurry, you might catch them.”

Kunsel handed Zack a blade, one of the standard Soldier broadswords that Zack had used until Angeal’s death. He sheathed it on his back and slung the supply pack over his shoulder, “Come with me, man. Everything will be up in the air with the president’s death. It’d be a good time to get lost.”

After a pause, Kunsel said, “I think this is going to be bigger than we realize. If Sephiroth really is back, Shinra’s going to have the best chance at figuring out where he’ll go next... and if Cloud is the one who threw him into the mako pit, he might be holding a grudge. I’ll feed you information and once you’ve caught up with Cloud, let me know. We’ll meet up, get a drink, and start our monster hunting business.”

Zack seized his friend in a fierce hug, “Thanks, Kuns.”

“Yeah, yeah, you big lummox. Get going.” Kunsel shoved him off with a chuckle, “Be careful.”

“Aren’t I always?” Zack asked with a grin.

Kunsel shook his head, “Do I need to remind you how I found you a few months back?”

Zack did not bother replying, jogging off toward the highway instead. By the time he reached the end of the unfinished road, there was a smoking pile of scrap metal and the two abandoned vehicles. There was also a rope hanging from a sturdy looking beam that dropped to the ground outside the outer wall of the city. It was as likely a place to start as any.

Seokjin

Carrie and Seokjin had been friends for the last three years and there was one thing Seokjin never understood. Carrie never looked remotely interested in dating. He tried to take her to group dates, but she’d only ever talk to him or the other girls. He tried to introduce her to Namjoon and Hoseok, both befriended her, as did the others, but neither of them were interested in Carrie .

Carrie was gorgeous! Seokjin didn’t feel anything special with her over a friendship. She was like his little sister that he wanted to be happy and he thought that setting her up with another guy would be the key.

One day, Carrie and Seokjin were out at a mall food court when Seokjin noticed a man eyeing Carrie . He smiled slyly as he looked at Carrie . “Look, what do you think about him?”

Lyla took a large bite of her hamburger as she looked in the direction to where he nudged his head. She grimaced, “Nahh twinks” she said with a mouth full of food. Carrie swallowed the food and wiped her mouth, “I don’t know why you keep thinking I want to da–”

An arm touched Carrie shoulder and she froze. “Hey, you wanna go walk the mall with me? Maybe your cousin will let you out of his sight for a bit.”

Carrie’s face twisted and Seokjin could see the sickly look she had. He cleared his throat as he reached over and moved the man’s arm. “I’d prefer it if you didn’t touch my girlfriend.” Carrie gave him a startled look.

The man held up his arms, “My bad man, thought you were cousins. You have a good date.”

He left and Carrie and Seokjin laughed. “Cousins?” Carrie wiped her eyes as she laughed harder. “I’m not even Asian, man.”

Jin let out one of his infamous windshield laugh, “But really, why didn’t you like that guy? He seemed pretty nice.”

Carrie tried to calm her laughs as she looked at Jin, but she bursted, “Dude, I’m gay… Everyone but you seem to have figured that out.”

Jin sat there in a silent shock, “So… I’ve been setting you up with the wrong people… I will find you a great girlfriend then!” He shook his head not believing he had missed all the signs. No wonder his group members weren’t interested in her.

Jimin

Mercy was out at the park with her headphones in her ears. She looked down at her camera and the different scenic images she had captured as she waited for her best friend, Jimin. It was a cold winter day, but with the sun out and the snow still heavy on the ground, Mercy saw it as an opportunity to do a random informal photo-shoot using Jimin who readily agreed.

As she flipped through the images, a hand covered the screen as it waved to catch her attention. She jumped thankful she had put the camera around her neck as it left her hands and hit her chest. “Damn it, Jimin, I told yo–” She yanked her headphones out as she began to snap at the man she thought was Jimin. However, as she looked up at him, she could tell he was no Jimin.

The man was taller, but he had the same build as Jimin. He had a flirty smile on his lips and there was a glint in his eyes that screamed fuck boi. “Sorry bout that. I was just wondering if you could tell me how to get to Myeongdong? I’m new here.”

“Yea sure” she pulled out her phone and the man moved to her side. “We’re close to Seoul Station, so if you take the underground metro it’ll be two stops.”

“I appreciate it” he grinned. He licked his bottom lip as he reached out to shake her hand. “I’ll be in for a couple of weeks. Maybe you can show me around? Foreigners gotta stick together.” He eyed her, “You can show me where all the fun places to go especially at night.”

Mercy gave him a forced smile, “I can’t help you there. I’m not a night life girl. I’m sure there will be some people who can show you around.” She stepped back from him, “I should get going though, so have a good trip.”

As she began to leave, the man reached out, “Hey wait!”

However instead of grabbing Mercy, his hand hit a bulky jacket sleeve. Jimin stood between them as his arms crossed and he looked at the man with a disinterested gaze. “You should probably leave now.”

The man glared at him, “I wasn’t talking to you.”

His eyebrow rose, “Yea? But I’m talking to you. My girlfriend doesn’t want you near.” He shooed him with his hand.

“Then she can speak for herself.”

Jimin let out a chuckle before he turned back to Mercy, “You wanna answer him?” She said nothing as she shook her head and pulled Jimin’s sleeve. “There’s your answer, so piss off.” He wrapped his arm around Mercy’s shoulders and led her off inside the park. Jimin dropped the facade when they were far enough and let out a breath, “Holy crap, did you see how tall that dude was?”

Mercy laughed as she picked up her camera, “Well thanks to you, Mr. Boyfriend, I was saved from another fuck boy.”

“All in a day’s work for Mr. Boyfriend” he placed his fists on his hips as he struck a hero pose. “Now, where does our damsel want to take these pictures?” With a large smile, Mercy took his hand and guided him through the park to the locations she wanted to take the photos.

Taehyung

Sara as out in the meet up point where she waited for Taehyung, her best friend and crush. She had her head down in her phone as she played a game when a voice she hated sounded.

“Hey love.” She cringed and her eyes rolled at the sound of her ex’s voice. She paid it no mind and pretended he wasn’t near her. “ Sara, hey babe…”

Her head shot up realizing the girl he had called out to was her. Her face was clear of any emotion as she looked at him, “Can I help you, Jungwoo?”

“I could careless who you sleep with. We’re not together and I’m happier without you.”

Jungwoo wore a cocky smile, “You, the neediest girl in the world, are happy being single? As if.”

Taehyung grinned when he saw Sara at the meet up point, but it quickly fell. He saw the bastard that broke his crush’s heart holding her by the wrist. “Hey Rina!”

Sara’s ears perked and she felt her ex’s grip lax. She took the chance to pull away from him and rush to Taehyung, “Babe, you’re here!” She threw her arms around his neck and startled him, “Sorry for this…” She whispered in his ear before she leaned up and pressed her lips to his.

Taehyung didn’t think twice as he kissed her back passionately. His hands encircled her waist. His head tilted deepening the kiss. Sara gasped at the sudden shift and he took the opportunity to slip his tongue in her mouth.

Sara broke the kiss first as her lungs screamed for air. Her eyes widened as she covered her mouth in shock. She looked back to see her ex long gone. “Jeez, what was that all about? I was just going for a small kiss.”

Taehyung licked his lips still tasting hers on his. “It’s your own fault you kissed me first. I’ve wanted to kiss you for years” his eyes trained on her as she looked back at him.

She felt her face burn as she let out an awkward cough, “Well, I definitely didn’t mind it.” She bit her lip which only made Taehyung crave to kiss her again.

She brushed her hair behind her ear, “I’d like that.”

With his large box smile, Taehyung laughed in relief as he led Sara to a cafe, one he had always wanted to take her. Their fingers intertwined and never parted the entire way to the cafe.

Jungkook

He helped Callie get a different job, move to a safer more secure complex, and got her a new phone and phone number as the police never held her ex in custody for long.

Once there, she felt her phone vibrate and when she pulled it out she saw Jungkook’s ID name. She answered it and pressed her phone to her ear, “Heeeeyyyy” she smiled.

“Don’t you hey me. Why are you going out this late?” Jungkook asked with a older brother authoritative tone. “I’ll be there in a minute, hyung!” He called out. “Where are you?”

“Are you still at work? Why are you calling me?”

“Don’t change the subject” he hissed. “You shouldn’t be out this late. Especially not alone.”

She leaned on the rail as she gazed at the people on the basketball court start to leave. “I’m fine, Jungkook” she shrugged. “I’m at the park near my place.”

“Callie!” A growl came from behind her at a distance.

She stilled at the voice, “Callie, who was that?” Jungkook asked in a panic.

She turned to see her ex at the entrance just feet away. “Jungkook…” She let out a whimper, “He’s here…”

Jungkook stood there ready to strike again as his jaw clenched. His eyes were dark with rage, “Who the fuck do you think you are touching my girlfriend like that?”

Her ex stumbled as he held his jaw. He let out a low chuckle, “Your girl, huh? I always knew she was a fucking slu–”

Once she calmed down, Jungkook led her to the car where Jin waited. “How’d you get here so fast?” She whispered as she climbed inside.

“Language!” Jin hissed.

What I learned is that I could finally say goodbye to the hassle (and risk) of forgotten and weak passwords. Dashlane took care of everything—from storing my passwords to generating new ones that are unique and more secure.

I’d never used a password manager before, and I was happy to learn how simple and unobtrusive Dashlane is. It has a few automatic features that I had to work around, but it was easy to find solutions and change the settings to suit my needs better. And Dashlane offers extras like a digital wallet (online shopping, here I come!), multi-factor authentication, and cross-platform password management—that means it works on your computer and your phone.

What We Like

Free Means Free When you opt for Dashlane’s free password manager plan, you won’t be tricked into a monthly subscription. All you have to do is click on the “Get Dashlane” button, and your password protection starts immediately. There is no request for credit card info, which I found refreshing in a world where nearly every “free” thing I sign up for asks me for payment information that I’ll have to remember to cancel after the trial period.

Dashlane Doesn’t Skimp on Features Whether you decide to stick with the Free plan for life or upgrade to Premium, you get all the basics you need to feel good about the security of your passwords. The Password Generator is a basic feature, and it’s one of the most valuable if you’re someone (like me) who’s been using slight variations of the same password for years. And even though the Free plan covers only one device, that device gets all the main perks you want in a password manager.

What We Don’t Like

Free Plan Covers Only One Device Even though you get all of the essential features in the Free plan, you only get to use them on one device. That means you can’t sync your password manager with your smartphone, tablet, or other mobile devices. In an age when most of us use at least two devices, this is a major drawback.

Premium Plan Pricing Is Confusing There are a few different ways to buy a Dashlane Premium plan. If you go to the main website, you’ll see the plan listed for $3.33/month. But if you go through the Dashlane app on your phone or PC, you’ll get the annual plan options listed above. After further investigation I verified that even though the monthly price is listed, you have to pay for a year’s subscription.

What We Like

Installs in Minutes Signing up for Dashlane was so fast that I wasn’t even sure I’d really done it. I entered my email address, created a password (more about that later), and started the download. Dashlane’s installation is so automatic that I was a bit dizzy from the experience. After you download Dashlane, the next step is to add the Dashlane browser extension—it works with Chrome, FireFox, Internet Explorer, and Edge. Then Dashlane asks if you want to import any passwords you have stored in the browser. Because I wanted to see the ins and outs of how Dashlane works, I didn’t opt for the import. Even without that shortcut, it was easy to save new passwords every time I logged into an account for the first time after adding the Dashlane browser plug-in.

Works on Multiple Platforms Dashlane is compatible with PCs, Macs, iOS, and Android. I used it on my MacBook and my iPhone, so I can testify that Dashlane works well as a cross-platform password manager. At first, I wasn’t sure I wanted to download Dashlane onto my phone, but it was as simple as sending my phone a link to the Dashlane app and clicking on it. Granted, if I don’t upgrade to Premium after the trial period, I’ll have to pick either my Mac or my phone if I want to keep using Dashlane.

Features a Sleek Dashboard The Dashlane dashboard is attractive and intuitive to use. The menu is located on the left side of the screen and features three sections: Password Manager, Wallet, and Contacts. My favorite is the Security Dashboard, which gives you a security score based on the strength of your passwords and whether any of them are compromised. You can see which accounts need a stronger or new password, and it calls you out for using the same password on multiple accounts (my bad!). If you’re not in the app, you can access a scaled-down menu from the Dashlane browser plug-in. This modified dashboard lets you view the accounts for which you’ve saved passwords, and you can generate new passwords for accounts without having to open the full Dashlane app. If you do want to get into the full dashboard, all you have to do is click on the ellipsis in the browser menu, and it gives you options that launch the entire app.

Uses Touch ID and Facial Recognition One of the reasons I was hesitant to use Dashlane on my iPhone was my strong attachment to Touch ID. I love being able to open apps with the touch of a finger instead of typing out a complicated password on a tiny keyboard. Before downloading the Dashlane app, I made sure that it wouldn’t wipe out my Touch ID. Much to my delight, I found that not only does Dashlane let me keep using Touch ID but it also lets me use Touch ID for my Dashlane app password. And, for those with an iPhone X, Dashlane also works with facial recognition.

Measures Strength of Passwords I like to win at things, so when I discovered I could get a grade on the strength of my passwords, I accepted the challenge. From the Security Dashboard, you can click on Password Strength, and it takes you to a detailed analysis that rates each password. It considers how easy it would be to crack the password, along with other factors like whether or not you use the same password for more than one account (guilty!). I’d like to point out that I did get one 100% safety rating. This feature brings home how well you’re protecting your identity and other personal information.

Generates Strong Passwords After reviewing your password analysis, if you decide it’s time to get serious, Dashlane will do the heavy lifting. One of the reasons I reuse the same password is because I can’t trust my brain to remember a super-secure password that isn’t based on any favorite books or TV shows or even real words. But with Dashlane keeping track—and generating tricky passwords for me—I’m ready to give up my risky, lazy ways. One click on the “Generator” menu option and all you have to do is copy and paste the generated password into the selected account. You can even select which password elements you want to include—letters, digits, or symbols—and you have the option to avoid ambiguous characters (like substituting a zero for the letter “O”). The more elements you add, the safer the password. I tried generating passwords without symbols and got a “fairly strong password” result instead of the “strong password” verdict shown above.

Tracks Receipts and Payment Info for Online Shopping If you do a lot of online shopping, you’re going to appreciate Dashlane’s digital wallet feature. You have the option to securely store payment information like credit cards, PayPal, or Venmo. It may seem risky to save financial information in an app, but Dashlane encrypts all the data you enter with your master password, which only you know. The company doesn’t store your master password on its servers, and it uses the most secure form of encryption available. The primary benefit of saving your payment information in Dashlane is fast, secure checkout when you’re shopping online. Forget running for your wallet when it comes time to pay—you can autofill checkout fields without even touching your keyboard.

Keeps Emergency Contact Information Call me morbid, but I’ve wondered about what would happen to all of my online accounts if I were no longer alive to manage them. Dashlane has also considered this inevitability, and they have a solution. You can add an emergency contact to your Dashlane account, which means that a person you trust will be able to access your Dashlane account and view password and notes data. Emergency contacts don’t have access to anything stored in your digital wallet. You can also limit the data an emergency contact can access, and you can revoke access at any time. The one caveat to this feature is that your emergency contact needs to install Dashlane on their device before they can access your account.

What We Don’t Like

Unclear Master Password Setup Before you even download the Dashlane password manager, you have to set up an account. To get started you have to enter an email address and a password. Dashlane gives you some guidance about the password you choose, suggesting that you include at least eight characters, both upper and lowercase letters, and one number. What Dashlane doesn’t tell you is that this will be your master password—the key to access everything in your Dashlane account. If I’d known that, I would have used a much stronger password.

Aggressive Automatic Logout This is a security feature that took me by surprise. In the midst of Dashlane’s setup tutorial, I had to go to a meeting. When I returned to my desk, I sat down to work as usual. To my surprise, I was logged out of absolutely everything on my computer. I had to manually log back in to every account I was using. As I logged in, Dashlane asked me if I wanted it to store the password. While I was happy to get all of my passwords saved, it was inconvenient (and somewhat disturbing) to have this app take over my computer.I quickly searched for ways to deal with this security feature and found plenty of other users who also wanted to know how to turn it off. Dashlane defaults to the automatic logout setting, and you have to go in and manually turn it off. This adds extra security, but this setting should be part of the tutorial that takes you through the password manager setup. That would save panic and frustration when you find yourself logged out of everything every time you need to walk away from your computer.

Tricky Secure Sharing One of the features that Dashlane seems pretty proud of is secure sharing. When you activate this feature, you can share passwords to designated accounts with approved people. I wanted to see how well it worked, so I gave my boyfriend two different levels of sharing access. The catch is that he has to set up his own Dashlane account to gain access to the info I’m trying to share with him. The same goes for setting him up as an emergency contact.This was frustrating, especially because installing Dashlane automatically affects your system settings, e.g., logging you out of everything. When I sent an invitation to my boyfriend to access my account, I expected him to be able to do so through that invitation—without forcing him to create an account. Requiring others to set up an account is clever on Dashlane’s part, but it’s kind of sneaky (and disappointing) for customers who want to use the secure sharing or emergency contact features but don’t have people who want to use Dashlane.

An epic cycle challenge with my family

In summer 2018, Lindsay and her family took on the (in)famous John o’Groats to Land’s End (JOGLE) long-distance ride.

Here, she tells us how they got on with this challenge – before and after.

Part one: planning the journey

Our 12-year-old son chose our family holiday this year, inspired by an adult friend of ours who cycled from Land’s End to John o’Groats in ten days last year. As a result, we leave home in just over two weeks to start our nearly 1200-mile journey.

We are a family of four, with boys Oscar (14) and Silas (12), and we are not aiming to complete it in the fewest days possible, but rather to see something of the country while we cycle. Where we can, we will use cycle paths (thank you, Sustrans!), and will cover about 60-65 miles a day, completing the distance in 19 days.

Planning has been what seems like a full-time activity for weeks now, and we have enjoyed sharing the responsibility.

My husband Andrew has planned the route (to find the safer and more scenic roads and paths), I’ve researched options for stopping points each day (cafes, shops, etc.), Oscar is working out our options for where to eat out in the evening and Silas is going to pull together a big spreadsheet of all the data about our trip – miles covered each day, metres climbed, average speed, what percentage of the way we have covered each day and many other bits of information too!

Preconceptions about the ride

Silas says he is most worried about what the weather will do (we have had some painful practice rides in cold rain and on very muddy towpaths), and whether the midges in Scotland will live up to their fearful reputation. I am looking forward to the trip enormously, and will be fascinated to see how the country unfolds in front of our eyes.

The big unknown for all of us is quite how hard it will be, or whether we will all cope better than we think. Will there be a day where all four of us struggle, or will just one person find a particular day hard and the other three can encourage them on?

Finally, we’re also raising money for charity. We didn’t want the children to feel that they are tagging onto our idea, so we have all chosen a charity to support so that fundraising is more “our own”. The packing list is my current headache – packing as lightly as possible but having enough to cover our essentials.

Part two: experiencing the ride

What an amazing experience it is to cycle from John o’Groats to Land’s End! It’s quite extraordinary to see the stunning views of Scotland, the Lake District and the rolling Devon hills (and everything in between) all in the same trip. During the many hours in the saddle, my main distraction was to see how different the towns and countryside were from 100 miles before.

I don’t think all members of the family thought about the scenery as much as I did, but I wanted to be free from my phone and any navigation system so that I could enjoy what I could see. The other members of the family all watched the route on maps, counted up (or down) the miles for the day, or worked out how much more climbing there was in the day. These were good distractions too!

We spent about six hours cycling a day with an extra two or three hours for various stops – whether for coffee and cake (a daily occurrence), or buying lunch, or a picnic overlooking an amazing Lake District view, or just for water or “comfort” stops. It is deceptive how quickly the stops add up. We only suffered four punctures in the whole trip, and no other equipment malfunctions of any sort.

Battling the elements

Our trip was during the summer heatwave, but thankfully we missed some of the extreme heat in Scotland. Cycling in the Lake District in 30°C+ is definitely energy-sapping; a day including a 1:5 hill coming out of Settle was one of our hardest, and we had never been so excited to see a Premier Inn as when we finally glimpsed the sign in Burnley at 8pm!

We endured thunderstorms coming into Worcester (with a slow puncture that needed pumping up every three miles so that we could change the tyre in the dry of the hotel), and torrential rain and a massive headwind all day the next day, from Worcester to Bristol. Even though that day had very little to recommend itself to us at the time (puddles in our shoes, being so wet through to the skin that we didn’t even want to stop for coffee or food and needing heaters in the evening to try to get everything dry), it’s those days of hardship that actually make the trip epic and memorable.

Take-aways from the journey

Things I liked: the bonding between us over the trip – we all supported each other when needed (Silas encouraged me bit by bit up a hill on one hot day when I had “hit the wall” shortly before lunch, then, coincidentally, he hit the wall a couple of hours later, but by then I had the energy to work with him pedal by pedal up another hill – thanks, Devon!). We had such a good laugh, most particularly in the evenings of the hard days – we were almost delirious with hilarity in the Brewer’s Fayre in Burnley.

I enjoyed pushing myself to do those last 10 miles of the day when all you want to do is stop. I loved the sense of progress as we tracked our way down the country. We met lovely people: at viewpoints while having a break, café staff and hotel receptionists or B&B owners who all went out of their way to help us have a comfortable stay. And, eating as much as you want for the entire trip is great fun, especially for those of us who normally can’t!

Not so good: some drivers, particularly in the Lake District zooming around corners when it’s only one lane wide, weak hands from resting on the handlebars so many hours a day (it made changing tyres really hard, and I couldn’t squeeze the toothpaste tube for the last week either), getting very wet and/or cold as it makes you slow down which makes you wet and/or cold for longer.

After the trip, all our various aches and pains didn’t take too long to subside, but our weak hands took about a month to get back to full strength. As we finished, I had absolutely no desire to do the trip again. Within three months, however, I realised I would love to do it again! I’m trying to think of ways to persuade the family that to cycle from the north to the south coast of France would be an excellent thing to do…

False Auto Insurance Claim Against A Friend?

A very close friend of mine received a call from his auto insurer yesterday regarding a 3rd party claim against him. According to the 3rd party, my friend hit their parked car (which was parked on the curb in front of their home), then parked his own car, went up to their house, rang their doorbell and exchanged insurance information. The 3rd party claims that this took place in a town that's more than 1 hour away from where we work and live. This allegedly happened 3 months ago. There are two major problems with this story: A- The alleged incident never happened. I carpool with my friend to and from work and was with him that night. B- The 3rd party has all of his insurance information. Could the insurance company have called the wrong person (i.e. gotten policy numbers mixed-up while processing the claim)? If not, how could a 3rd party have his insurance information? How common are fraudulent insurance claims (against another person)? And has anything similar happened to you or someone you know? My friend is a little worried because there is some minor damage to his rear bumper. We live in a major city and pretty much every 3rd car has nicks and scratches along the bumper from parking garage 'mysteries' and whatnot. Also, about 8 months ago, a young woman rear-ended us while we stationary, waiting to turn left at an intersection.
