Ok I watched the last actual episode of Make Your Mark (minus Secrets of Starlight, which I’ll be watching next time) and honestly, for all the crap I and other people gave it (some deserved)…this show was really good. No, it wasn’t FiM, and the cheap animation didn’t do it any favors, but you can tell there was a lot of heart and love put into this by writers working with what they had. Finding out that there were issues with the IP rights of G4 and that they had to pay royalties to Discovery Family every time they used a FiM character (!) suddenly made the lack of G4 stuff make a lot more sense. They were stuck writing a continuation of G4 with barely any ability to reference G4. What a mess.
Anyway, I thought the wrap-up was great. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but I ultimately really liked the approach to Opaline, building her up slowly over 27 episodes. One of the few things I didn’t care for in FiM was when villains powerful enough to destroy the world would wing in out of nowhere 4 or 5 or more seasons in. Opaline being crazy, world-controllingly powerful by the end actually felt earned. It felt built up to. And Misty getting to confront her, as I’d hoped she would, was excellent. Still surprised by the way they managed to incorporate a whole arc about parental abuse into this show aimed at 2-8 year olds. I hope it reaches some kids who really need that message.
Overall, I’m sad to see MYM go. I think there could have been so many more stories to tell. I’ve watched a lot of Tell Your Tale, but 5 minute episodes just don’t lend themselves as well to storytelling and character development.
I guess I’m glad it existed at all. 💜

Direct action against the prison industrial complex being the solution and final conflict of the film was not at all what I was expecting from Wendell and Wild but holy shit

First injury of the year thanks to dyspraxia.
I slipped, went face first into a door handle, then onnthe way down I have hit my knee quite badly off of the floor and did something to my foot.
I am, thankfully, not bleeding. But I am dazed, shaken amd very fucking sore.
The impact even banged up my teeth. Not broken any of them but I think the nerves are freaking out.

imagine you're lydia barkrock, you're this single mother who's been fighting a chronic illness for years, every day is a battle but you push through, and you tell the story of your battle to some kids you're...co-parenting? who knows, and one of them who looks extremely bad, like she's maybe had the worst day of her life yesterday, as soon she hears about your battles, reaches out and gives you the help action.
