Gambling With Souls (Alastor x GN!Reader)
Summary: You made a deal with Husk a long time ago, and ended up paying a lot more than you bargained for. Now you worked in one of his casinos, waiting on him and the people he gambled with hand and foot. One day Husk is challenged to a game by another Overlord, one with red eyes and a sharp ever-present smile…and, despite everything, you can’t help but feel drawn to him. What happens when the two of them start gambling with souls…and yours is thrown into the betting pool?
Disclaimer: Husk is going to act pretty different than he does in the show and, yes, he's not going to be very nice to you---this is not me demonizing him. He's an Overlord, he's gonna act like one.

The moment you'd agreed to gamble with Husk, your life had ended.
You were a strong demon, not an Overlord---considering you hadn't owned any souls---but still not someone to mess with. Still, it was an incredibly stupid idea to gamble with an Overlord like him, especially since he was known for his proficiency in such things. You didn't remember what exactly had possessed you to think you could possibly win, but it didn't really matter now, did it?
He'd challenged you, and you had accepted.
You lost.
And now your soul was his to do with as he pleased.
Of all the demons who owned souls, Husk was considered by far the worst. He was a gambler and a drunk. He won hands, yes, but he also lost them---and it wasn't exactly uncommon for him to bet the souls he owned in lieu of money. Especially against other Overlords.
You could be working for him in one of his casinos as a dealer and in the span of one hand you were suddenly being dragged to the Vee district and forced to work as a porn star for Valentino, subject to his abuse and the abuse of your "co-stars," only to see your pain broadcasted across Hell to get people off.
Or to the Carmine district to work in a factory, building weapons that would probably kill you one day and dealing with the effects of the toxic gas and physical labor, slowly decaying over time.
Or to the district owned by Zestial...no one knew what happened to the souls he owned, and you sure as hell didn't want to find out.
Oddly enough, though, Husk seemed to take a liking to you. He always had you work at his personal gambling table---serving drinks, food, or rigging the game in his favor when he was in particularly deep shit and didn't want to lose.
And he never bet your soul.
Ever.
Sometimes he would bet you doing certain...activities, sometimes he would bet your time, sometimes he would bet a kiss, but never your soul.
Sometimes you were grateful for it, for the security it brought and the routine---you were rarely ever caught off guard when it came to Husk. Grateful for the knowledge that, hey, at least you would never be traded off to someone worse.
Other times, however, you hated it. Hated that he treated you like his prized show pony, hated that he was willing to pass you around but never loosen the chain on your neck, hated the fact that there was no escape...
...at least, there was no escape, until Husk gambled with him.
----------
It was never a good thing when Husk called you over to his table, so when one of the girls you worked with waved you down and directed you over to him---right before the end of your shift, I might add---you were...less than thrilled, let's say.
It had already been a hard enough day. It was like every jackass in Hell had decided to all get assigned to your tables at once---being loud and unruly, smacking your ass, spilling drinks, causing trouble---and, of course, none of your coworkers were any help. Your feet were killing you from all of the moving around, a customer had spilled a drink on you so now your uniform was more uncomfortable than usual, and you could definitely feel a migraine coming on.
The last thing you wanted to do was stay however many hours past your scheduled time just to plaster on a fake smile and be Husk's plaything. All you wanted was to go home and go to sleep, but the universe apparently hated you.
Fuck your life.
As you approached Husk's table, your attention was immediately drawn to the man sitting across from him. He was noticeably taller than Husk, even without the antlers atop his head---joined by a pair of red and black ears that matched the rest of his hair. He was dressed in a red suit and tailcoat that seemed to be 1930's in style, and a staff in the shape of a vintage microphone rested right next to him.
What was most eye-catching about him, though, was his smile.
Husk was an irritating man, that's just what he was like. He was arrogant without the sense to hide it, too certain of his own success every time he played a game, a hefty shit talker, usually drunk, and irritable and rude when he wasn't. Half of your job was often playing nice to soothe his opponents, trying to keep him out of trouble. Like I said, he was an irritating man.
And yet, even though it was obvious that Husk was getting on this man's last nerve, his smile never faltered. It was...unsettling, to say the least. Oddly enough, though, you found your interest in the man piquing---he didn't look like the type to gamble, after all, so what was he doing here?
As soon as you made it to the table, you plastered on a smile of your own and greeted them, mentally preparing yourself so that you didn't try to throttle one or both of them.
"Hello gentleman," you said, voice falsely bright and cheerful, "will I be dealing for you today or grabbing some drinks?"
Husk turned to you, grinning cockily and...oddly not drunk. Not sober, of course, but clearly more sober than you'd ever seen him before.
"Dealin' for us today, sweetheart," he said, smooth and low---almost flirty. You mentally shuddered.
Despite your distaste, you nodded and made your way to the middle of the table, going ahead and opening a fresh deck of cards before shuffling them---waiting for Husk to tell you which game they were going to play, and therefore what you'd be dealing out.
He turned to his opponent, "now, what game 're we playin'?"
"Your choice," the man replied, his voice overlaid by sharp radio static.
Husk laughed, and part of you wondered if this stranger had a death wish. Didn't he know who Husk was? Didn't he know what a terrible idea it was to give him, not only the advantage of playing in one of his casinos and choosing the dealer, but also the advantage of choosing the game?
What was he playing at?
Never one to pass up an opportunity to gain the upper hand, Husk---grinning---told you the game he wanted to play, and you began dealing out the cards. Quickly, the stranger recognized it.
"Ah, Texas Hold Em', hm?" He hummed, static crackling slightly in an almost-laugh, "a classic! What made you choose such a game?"
"I just figured a basic game like this would be easy enough for you to keep up with," Husk replied, the little insult sliding smoothly off his tongue. The stranger's eyes narrowed and you cringed, mentally praying to whatever god would listen that he wouldn't take his anger at Husk out on you, as was all too common among the characters he gambled with. Thankfully, his eyes never left Husk and he made no move to harm you as you set up the game, now divvying up the chips between them.
Just before you were about to start the game, however, Husk held up a hand to stop you---a dangerous glint in his eyes that made you shudder.
"Why don't we make this game a little more interesting," he said, and you could already guess what he was about to suggest.
The stranger's head tilted ever-so slightly, "what did you have in mind?"
"Why don't we gamble with something a little more valuable than money...something like the souls we own."
The stranger's smile widened imperceptibly, and you got the uncanny feeling that this is what he'd wanted in the first place. Not Husk's money, but the souls in his possession.
'Perhaps Husk's soul as well,' something in your mind whispered, but you brushed it off. Husk never gambled his soul either, so there's no way that would happen---even if that was what the stranger was there for.
Once the stranger voiced his agreement, Husk snapped his fingers and his chips radiated with a silver glow, each chip being branded with a mark that symbolized exactly whose soul was being bet. His soul was branded on a Black chip, the most expensive piece---ever present, even if he'd never bet it. Yours was a Red, the second most expensive.
He gestured to the stranger, signaling that it was his turn. The stranger followed suit and snapped his fingers, this time a bright green enveloping the chips in front of him---starkly contrasting to the rest of his appearance. His chips were now branded with their own marks as well. A Black chip with green details was branded with a bright red 'A,' and you could only assume that was his own soul.
After it was clear that the two were ready, you flipped the first three cards, and the game began.
----------
At first, things almost seemed normal, once the game had started.
You dealt the hands, split the chips in the betting pool, and watched as the two Overlords went back and forth with the flow of the game. Occasionally another one of Husk’s employees would come over and serve them drinks, but other than that none of it caught your attention.
Well, one thing caught your attention.
The stranger’s shadow.
It seemed to dance around with a mind of its own, never losing its smile, just like the stranger himself. The shadow sometimes messed with the chips on the stranger’s side of the board, sometimes it played with the ice in the empty glasses on the table, but most of the time it seemed almost…fascinated by you.
It messed with your hair, helped you shuffle and collect the cards, tugged playfully at the edges of your uniform, and simply stuck by your side most of the time. It was a nice change from the attention you were used to dealing with from customers, or from Husk himself.
The way people would scream at you when they were angry, the wandering hands that would grope or hit or grab, the catcalls and lustful threats, the glasses of alcohol that people would throw at you…this was nothing like any of that. You liked it, it made you feel…precious, in a way. Valued. Cared for, oddly enough.
The stranger seemed amused by the antics, occasionally raising an eyebrow at his shadow only to receive an innocent shrug in response.
…
Husk, on the other hand, was not so amused.
“Get control of your fuckin’ shadow,” Husk snapped at the stranger as it tugged gently on a piece of your hair, drawing a small smile from you. One that immediately disappeared as you heard Husk’s voice.
“Now now,” the stranger chastised, seeming even more amused at Husk’s irritation, “it’s only having a little fun, no need to lose your temper.”
Husk muttered something under his breath, no doubt some string of insults, but still, he dropped the subject. You tried not to pay any more attention to the shadow after that, not wanting Husk to get angry at you as well.
Husk didn’t seem to notice…but the stranger did.
“Husker, you have quite the specimen working for you here," he said, radio static curling around his voice in an almost...flirtatious(?) purr as he turned to look at you, "what's your name, my dear?"
You flushed slightly before giving him your name, asking his in return. After all, you'd prefer to stop thinking of him as "the stranger."
He repeated your name slowly, sounding out each syllable, before responding, "Alastor, it's a pleasure to meet-"
"Your turn," Husk interrupted, voice grating, and the stranger- Alastor's gaze snapped to him, lip curling even as his smile stretched.
"Of course," he replied, irritation clear in his tone, "pets have such short attention spans, wouldn't want you getting distracted from our game, now would we?"
"The only one getting distracted here is you."
Alastor only hummed in response, raising the bet as he did so.
You glanced between the two, the tension between them palpable, and you were more than a little worried that a fight might break out---but, thankfully, neither made a move towards the other. They just sat there, glaring.
You cleared your throat, trying to dispel some of the animosity, "raise or call?"
Husk pushed a stack of chips forward, "raise."
----------
This is how the game went, back and forth.
Husk winning some hands, and Alastor winning some in return---almost like a dance, a game.
You watched, enthralled, as the two continued on...and as Husk slowly, surely, lost more and more souls. Usually, when it was clear that one of the players were going to lose, they would call the game off---cut their losses and stop before things got any worse.
But, for whatever reason, Husk refused to do just that. In fact, the more hands Husk lost, the more determined he seemed to keep playing---to the point where, if you didn't know him well, you'd think he was gambling under the influence. It was...surprising, to say the least, and by the time Husk seemed to realize how deep of a hole he'd dug himself into, it was too late. His only choice was to keep playing and hope his luck turned around.
He had no reason to be worried, though, and he knew that.
All because he had you.
You see, there was a reason why Husk always had you serving his table. It was because of your power, what you could do for him during these games.
It was hard to pinpoint exactly what your power was, since it manifested differently depending on what you used it to do, but---in simple terms---it was almost like you had control over reality. A small part of it, at least. You could control things...well, under your control. Your appearance, the clothes you wore, anything you made, or---in this case---any game you dealt for.
There weren't any rules against the dealer controlling the game. Husk made certain of it. There was even a clause in the fine print of every contract people signed to play with him, one that gave you full permission to do as you pleased during the game, as long as you were the dealer.
So, sooner or later, Husk would give you the signal to turn things in his favor and you would do as you were told.
...
Well, apparently, it was sooner.
Husk gave you the signal, and you sunk into the familiar warmth of your power---subtly seizing control of the game. You knew the cards in Husk's hands and in Alastor's, as well as all the cards on the board.
Alastor would have two pair, Husk would have one.
Your fingers twitched slightly and the unflipped cards changed, giving Husk three of a kind and Alastor one pair.
Husk won that round.
Safe to say, Husk started to get "spontaneously" lucky, and get some of his souls---his power---back. Alastor, surprisingly, didn't seem at all bothered or shocked by this. If anything, he seemed completely relaxed, as if he wasn't losing hundreds of souls with every hand. It unsettled you, and it definitely seemed to unsettle Husk---even though he tried his best to hide it.
Eventually, though, just as you thought that---surely---Alastor had had enough and was about to call the game off, he said something that stopped you in your tracks.
"All in."
Your power faltered for a moment as you stared at him, eyes wide, and you lost all knowledge of what was on the board. Husk was staring too, mouth hanging open, before a surprised laugh slipped from his mouth.
"You're kiddin', there's no way you-"
Once again, Alastor simply said, "all in."
Sliding his soul chip forward. Smile ever-present.
You glanced at Husk, silently wondering what he was going to do. Even with you controlling the game, he'd still never gambled his soul. Whether that was because he didn't trust that you'd let him win or because he didn't want to take the risk of your power failing, you didn't know, but still...he never bet it.
You raised an eyebrow, waiting for his answer, and, after a moment, Husk shook his head in disbelief...before calling Alastor's bet. A first for him, and for you. You took a deep breath and took control of the game again, ready to change the cards, before Alastor---once again---stopped you in your tracks.
"Is this what you want?" He asked, and you froze.
"...what?"
"Is this what you want?" He repeated, sounding genuinely curious, "to spend the rest of your afterlife working here, for this man? Letting him bet your body, your choices, letting him control your free will?"
You blinked. Surprised.
No one had ever asked you what you wanted before.
"I don't..." you trailed off, unsure of exactly what to say to that. Unsure of how to answer the question.
Husk glared at him, the topic of conversation clearly hitting a nerve, "why don't you shut the fuck up and mind your own business you-"
"You don't have to, my dear," Alastor continued, cutting Husk off, "you do have a choice, you know. You could choose to help me, instead of him, or to let fate take its hold."
It hit you then that Alastor knew that Husk was cheating, that he knew you were helping him. And still, he played the game...still, he treated you with kindness and respect.
He was right, though, you did have a choice. The contract of the game specified that you could do whatever you wanted with your control of the game, so long as you were the dealer and not one of the players.
If you wanted, you could make Husk lose.
You could force him into the same position that he'd forced you into.
You could break free from his grip.
Husk growled your name and your gaze snapped toward him. It was a warning, a threat. He owned your soul, he could do whatever he pleased with it, so you better listen to him.
Alastor said your name softly, drawing your attention back to him. A careful reminder. You still had a choice in this, Husk couldn't make you do anything right now. You could always choose not to help him, to help Alastor instead. All for the chance at a better life.
You took a deep breath and closed your eyes...
...
...before letting go of all control of the game.
Whatever happened now, it was up to the cards. Not you.
Husk slammed his hands down on the table, making you jump back as piles of chips tumbled to the floor, but before you could get farther away, he lunged at you and grabbed your throat---seething with rage.
"YOU FUCKIN' BITCH, HOW DARE YOU-"
Before he could finish his sentence, or cause you any harm, a green chain suddenly formed around his neck and pulled him back---making him fall to the ground. Your gaze snapped up, only to find Alastor at the other end of the chain---his shadow laughing behind him, grin wide. From there you glanced at the table, only to find-
Alastor had a Royal Flush...
...and Husk had nothing.
You glanced back at Husk and then, again, at Alastor---the reality of everything slowly setting in. Your soul no longer belonged to Husk, even if you were still tied to another Overlord. Now, though, Husk had fallen from his ivory tower.
Now he was just like you.
You couldn't help the hysterical laughter that bubbled up from your chest, a weight you hadn't even known was there suddenly disappearing. It was over. It was all over.
"I guess the house always wins," you managed to get out through your laughter, unable to contain the bright smile that took over your face. You were free of him. You were free of him.
"Indeed, my dear," Alastor replied, chuckling at your little joke, "I can already tell, you and I are going to get along just fine."
You would never admit it, but you thought so too.

Song Playing — Margaret by Lana Del Rey (just the main chorus is used)
‘Cause, baby, if your love is in trouble
Baby, if your love is in trouble
Baby, if your love is in trouble
Visiting your girlfriend’s family for Christmas was an occasion you dearly anticipated. It was great reuniting with her family for the holidays and relaxing from the stress of camp.
Clarisse’s mom was a single parent and wonderfully nurtured an all-girls family, who had later married Carter Williams. Her mom, Irene, and stepfather, Carter had three younger daughters, assuming they were twins named Kayla and Maya, now 13 years old, and Jada, now 10 years old.
Right now, they had just gone errand shopping, leaving you and Clarisse alone in the house, and wouldn’t be back until a few hours later. Deciding to take advantage of your alone time, you two made it quite worthwhile, firstly unpacking your suitcases. Every moment spent together was precious and memorable so you made every time unforgettable.
When you know, you know
When you know, you know
Soon after, you two did each other’s hair, wore matching clothes, horribly danced and sang, watched your favorite movies, cooked lunch together, and made out all in the span of five hours.
By evening, her family reached home, hands filled with Christmas-related supplies, some being groceries. Guess they also did some last-minute grocery shopping as well. While everyone was decorating the Christmas tree, all humming along to Christmas songs and dressed in matching Christmas pajamas, including you. Irene never singled you out, you were her eldest daughter’s girlfriend, a huge reason why Clarisse’s smile brightened immensely for the past 2 years. You felt grateful to be a part of such a loving family, and they never let you forget it. Her siblings admired you, especially Jada, the youngest one, she was very shy, unlike her older siblings who were all brazen and outgoing. Jada loved the attention you gave her, aware she was your favorite.
Later that same day, the La Rue family was arguing over which Christmas movie to watch, many voices overlapping with different opinions in mind.
“Y/N should choose, she’s our guest.” Carter bargained with his daughters.
“Yeah, Dad, because all of our guests basically live here and are dating Clarisse.” Maya sarcastically replies.
“Young lady, you better watch that tone!” Her dad, Carter warns.
“Hey, don’t be an asshole,” Jada shouts at Maya.
“Language, Jada!” Irene chastises her youngest daughter with a firm look.
“Did I lie?! Exactly, I never lie.” Maya taunts.
It kinda makes me laugh, runnin’ down that path
When you’re good as gold
“Y/N’s basically our sister-in-law at this point, we don’t have to sugarcoat it anymore.” Maya points out. “Or did I only see Clarisse’s pinboard with all things wedding-related, alongside a picture of her and Y/N?”
“Shut up, you little snitch,” Clarisse flings the mixing spoon in Maya’s direction, “What the hell were you even doing in my room?”
“Ummm we’re siblings, I needed some jewelry and I politely took some without your knowledge, it’s not a crime...”
“Yeah, it is a crime,” Kayla chimes in, crossing her arms, “It’s called stealing,”
“And you’re suddenly lacking jewelry?!”
“Ehh not really,” Maya shrugged nonchalantly, “You weren’t home so the opportunity kinda raised itself.”
“But I locked the door!”
“And I opened the door with a bobby pin, it’s not rocket science!”
“Mom!” Clarisse yelled, resorting immediately to discipline, “Aren’t you gonna say something to them? This is a complete invasion of my privacy!”
Irene looks at the triplets, “Girls, it was very wrong to sneak and snoop through your sister’s room.”
“Me! I never participated in such activities,” Kayla defends herself, “That was all Maya and Jada.”
“Jada, you were in on too?”
“Like I said I got bored and called Jada,” Maya grinned.
“Jada!” Clarisse shouts betrayed at her youngest sister.
“Sorry, Maya was very convincing.” Jada murmurs, too ashamed, avoiding making eye contact with her eldest sister, “Besides, I think the pinboard was very lovely. Are you guys really getting married to each other or is Clarisse just manifesting?”
“The truth comes out once and for all,” Kayla laughs, eating the spare marshmallows.
‘Cause when you know, you know
When you’re old, you’re old
“Shut up Kayla!” Your girlfriend yells at her sister.
“Don’t tell Kayla to shut up!” Maya exclaims.
“You can’t tell me what to do!”
“But Y/N can!” Maya concluded and turned to you, “Y/N shut Clarisse up! She’s puppy-dog whipped for you, we all know it!”
“See the kind of family you’re marrying into, Y/N, enjoy it while it lasts.” Kayla teases you, nudging your side slightly.
You paid no attention to Kayla’s comment, eyes glued on Clarisse as she consistently argued with her sisters. Everything was hectic right now, and your reaction towards it certainly wasn’t helping anyone, especially your girlfriend.
“What is she talking about?” You turned to your girlfriend, watching her shoulders tense up as she awkwardly shuffled on her feet.
“Nothing important,” Clarisse dismissed with a wave of her hand.
“Nothing important,” Maya mocks her eldest sister, “You basically planned the rest of your lives together, I wouldn’t classify that as nothing.”
“I’m gonna literally kill you,” Clarisse fiercely glares at Maya, “Mark my words!”
“Wow, I’m so scared,” Maya rolls her eyes.
“Imma show you scared, alright,” Clarisse began to venture towards Maya but her father’s reflexes were quicker, and grabbed his daughter. Carter keeps his grip strong, stopping Clarisse’s actions of attacking her younger sister.
“How about we all go bake some cookies to settle down?” Carter suggested, still holding his eldest daughter, waiting for her to calm down. Maya stuck her tongue out, spurring Clarisse’s annoyance, who struggled to escape her father’s strong grip. You could tell that Clatisse was restraining from using her demigod powers against her stepfather.
“That’s a good idea!” Irene agrees, clapping her hands.
Clarisse’s parents made all of you settle into the kitchen, tasking each sibling with various tasks of baking gingerbread cookies. Luckily, you were given the easiest job, icing them after they cooled down whilst Clarisse made the hot cocoa. For the rest of the night, Clarisse and Maya were distanced furthest away from each other, hesitant if another sibling fight was to break out.
Your girlfriend’s irritation at her sister simmered down at the sight of you. Keeping her close to you made her mind hazy, forgetting all about the earlier argument and focusing all her affection on you. Being clingy with each other, Clarisse hugged you from behind, kissing your neck as you giggled at her actions, miserably failing to put the icing on the gingerbread cookies.
Like Hollywood and me, the diamond on your ring
The soul that you bring to the table
“Stop doing that, babe.” You squirm from her kisses, an easygoing smile evident on your lips. “I don’t wanna mess up the gingerbread cookies,”
“Why should I? You clearly love it.”
Her hands wander onto the inside of your pajama shirt, lingering her soft touch across your stomach, kneading at the flesh. Your girlfriend stares at you, viewing your side profile, observing your cute mimics, and admiring your beautiful melanin skin.
“I do, but the gingerbread cookies—“
“Will be fine besides everything you do is perfect,”
“So will you let me focus?!”
You thought so; it was worth a try.
“Nope.” she squeezed your waist tighter, resting her head against the back of your shirt, “Just pretend that I’m not here.”
“That’s quite impossible, I could never fathom you not being here.” She presses light kisses on your shoulders as her curly hair tickles your neck, giving you tiny goosebumps.
“Stop being so sappy!”
“Never!”
One that makes me sing
In a minor key
She gently pecks your lips, and feeds you a marshmallow, both smiling in contentment at each other’s presence.
To end the night off, her parents stuck to their created tradition. It was a tradition in the La Rue household to watch Christmas movies every night in December, to keep the winter season alive. You thought it was cute, and instantly adored the little family tactic. Clarisse didn’t mind her family’s tradition, quite accustomed to it from a toddler, and now since you were dating, no complaints left her mouth. As long as you were beside her, or holding her, she slept like a baby, comforted in your arms.
Eventually, on Christmas Day, extended family is invited over and that hassle is settled down again with the same method.
After hours of incoherent curses and overlapping yelling, the classical ‘Home Alone’ movie was finalized and everyone was huddled up on couches in the living room. Her siblings took the bigger couch, sitting directly in front of the television whilst you and Clarisse sat on the right couch, partially facing the television and her parents sat opposite.
The lights were dim, giving the room a much cooler vibe to drift asleep in. Munching down on cookies and drinking hot chocolate as you snuggled up with Clarisse with a fuzzy blanket wrapped around you two.
“I wish we could be like this forever,” she whispers in your ear.
“Me too.”
There were some beats of silence, canceling out the movie sound effects as you remembered the huge sibling dispute, regarding the topic of marriage, and Clarisse wanting to be your future wife.
That innuendo Maya had teased you about clawed at your mind and made you anything but curious. Since it stemmed from a whole argument from Clarisse, this discussion wasn’t a light topic to handle, but you wanted answers! You wanted answers and you wanted them now. Hopefully, there aren’t limited answers to the questions you desire to ask, which will leave you irritated. You want the whole truth, not the half or a quarter, you just want the full truth and if your girlfriend knows what’s best for her, she’ll be completely honest with you.
‘Cause when you know, you know
When you know, you know
Certainly, you misheard what your girlfriend’s sister had so brazenly said to you. Clarisse wanted to marry you, sure it was a little stretch, you’ve been dating for 2 years now, so you didn’t think that thought would cross her mind. It didn’t even cross your mind. Never mind, that was a fucking lie, seeing as your Pinterest board is mostly dedicated to wedding-related content but you kept that private. Well, you couldn’t have been more wrong, apparently, that thought had crossed her mind, and it remained there.
So asking the question couldn’t hurt, right? Not that it was a complicated question which depends on your girlfriend’s response. Or maybe confirming your assumptions would end your overthinking once and for all.
“Wanna ditch my family?” She whispers in your ear. Her question pulls you from your train of thoughts and you blankly stare at her.
“Your mom will notice.” You inform her.
“No, she won’t,” Clarisse disagrees, shaking her head, “C’mon let’s go.”
Hesitantly you accept her hand, following her lead as you two sneakily get off the couch. You two were so close yet so far away.
“Clarisse La Rue, sit your ass down. You’re not ditching us to go makeout with your girlfriend, Y/N.” Her tone was cold and demanding, stopping you both in your tracks. Irene must have that freakishly third mother sense.
“Nice try,” you patted her back, gesturing to her to sit down as she groaned in defeat, crawling back into your embrace.
Clarisse winces, “It was worth a shot.”
“A terribly failed stupid shot.”
She snarled, “Who’s side are you on?”
“Yours, always, but your mom is one scary woman. I’m still surprised she talks so highly of me.”
“Because you’re a wonderful girl who deserves appreciation.”
“If anything, I would think you got your intimidation from your mom, not your father.”
“Trust me, I do.” Clarisse reassures and you smile at her.
“Hey, babe.”
And when you’re old, you’re old
Like Hollywood and me, that diamond on your ring
“Yes, gorgeous?”
“About Maya’s earlier statement, is that true?”
At first, she stayed silent, contemplating her upcoming words. She exhaled slowly, nodding gently, and whispered back, “Yeah, it’s true.”
Your eyes sparkle in astonishment, “Really? You want to marry me?”
“I’d be crazy not to…and I know that might be moving too fast but I’ve never been so certain about anything else in my life..well besides dating you. You’re my absolute dream girl and someday I wanna make you my wife.”
You giggle, hiding away your flustered face, “But I don’t understand, why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I was kinda embarrassed,” she sheepishly admits, “Scared kinda.”
“Scared?!” You shake your head. “You?! The most confident girl I know was too scared to tell me this?!”
That soul that you bring to the table
One that makes me sing
“I was scared of your reaction; that you’d possibly freak out thinking I’m moving too fast in this relationship and end it all.”
“You’d really think I would break up with you over a future reference?” You inquired, raising an eyebrow, “It’s not a crime to think about those things, even I thought about our marriage from time to time.”
Clarisse stared at you, shell-shocked as she stammered on her words, “You thought about it too?” Like she couldn’t believe the words coming out of your mouth.
“Of course, I did.” You reassured her, bringing your interlocked hands to your chest, and squeezing her hands tightly.
“No bullshitting, right?”
“No bullshitting whatsoever.”
All Clarisse did was flash you a toothy grin and briefly peck your lips.
“Guess what, then?”
“What?” She bites her lower lip, brown eyes glowering at you.
“I wanna marry you too.” You stated.
“Why not we get—“
“Hey, hey!” This time it was one of Clarisse’s younger sisters, Jada. Although she was only 10 years old, her sassiness was impeccable at such a young age.
“What?” Clarisse grew agitated by her sister’s interruption.
“Enough smooching during the movie! You have enough time to do that after the movie!”
Clarisse throws a nearby pillow at her sister, chuckling slightly when it hits her.
“Mom, Clarisse hit me with a pillow!”
“No, I did not, she’s lying!”
“Both of you shut the fuck up and watch the movie.”
“Me?! I did nothing!”
“Clarisse you’re not too old to get an ass-beating, remember that.” Her mom points out with a sharp glare. Your girlfriend huffs quietly and nuzzles her head further into your chest.
She began to mumble, “I swear to Hades, I hate this fam—“
“Don’t you dare finish that sentence, Clary!”
Clarisse lifted her head, gazing up at you. “Only if you give me a kiss.” She puckered her lips, awaiting for your lips to reconnect as a small smile littered her face once you gave in to her demand.
“You’re really a fool in love,” You chuckle.
“Only a fool for you, mark my words!”
“You’re a lovesick fool regardless.”
In a minor key
Diamond on your ring
This time she shifts her full attention onto you, eyes sparkling in admiration as a warm smile lingers on her face, “Now, my darling wife, where were we?”
“Oh, so we’re starting the names early then?”
“Well, I definitely intend to make you my future wife, why not get a headstart?” You bit your lip, gazing at your beloved girlfriend.
You pressed her lips against yours softly, seemingly making the kiss sweet and innocent. Tugging one of Clarisse’s loose curls that dangled in her face, you pulled it behind her ear as your lips moved as one. You adored Clarisse’s hair, thick voluminous curls flowing down to her neck and you couldn’t resist playing it in when she was close.
“I think that’s a great idea, my love.” You sigh, finally pulling away from the kiss, your thumb gliding across her soft cheeks as she smiles lovingly at you. Every day you wake up, guessing how truly lucky you are to be dating her, to be her forever girl, to be her future wife. Instead, she always reassures you that she’s the only lucky one to be dating such a unique woman as yourself. You two made each other complete, like pieces of a puzzle, longing to be together, destined to stay together forever, to overcome any obstacle thrown your way made to test your love.
Clarisse didn’t know what it was like to be truly in love and experience severe heartbreak whenever you’re not around, and now she understands why couples are so clingy with each other. Now she fully comprehends why love languages are important to express, if not some, maybe all of them. Love is deemed too powerful, and the stability depends on both partners’ perseverance to keep their relationship thriving for the better. Clarisse knew love changes a person, whether it is for better or for worse, weighing on the aspects of a healthy or unhealthy relationship. Without a doubt, Clarisse knew you were her soulmate, from the moment everything connected with you two, and how perfect your kisses were, she couldn’t find a more perfect girl anywhere. You were her girl, her only girl, her perfect girl, and hopefully her forever girl.
Either way, you two were utterly obsessed with each other, and nothing or nobody could ruin it, not if both of you had anything to say.
‘Cause when you know, you know
When you know, you know

It wasn’t a surprise to the residents of Castle Caladan to see Lady Jessica and her lady-in-waiting, (Y/N), walking around the luscious gardens of the castle late in the afternoon. Them arm in arm strolling past yellow, red, and orange flowers blooming in the cool air of Caladan, talking incoherently.
“Do you really think Paul is the Kwisatz Haderach?” (Y/N) questioned, knowing the plot that the sisterhood had been planning, “It’s a generation too early.”
“I do.” Lady Jessica responded, “He’s shown the signs. The reverend mother Mohiam is visiting later before we leave. She’s skeptical as well.” She added, poking a bit of fun at her partner.
“And if he fails the test?” (Y/N) asked, “Not saying he will or not.”
“Then I would be wrong.” Lady Jessica utter quietly.
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard you doubt yourself about this.” (Y/N) chuckled, “and you using ‘wrong’ and ‘I’ in the same sentence. But if you are right about him, which you most definitely are, then he’ll be fine.”
“That’s easier said than done.” she chortled
“You’ve taught him everything he needs to know.”
“That’s very kind of you to say.” Jessica said as she looked at (Y/N).
“You’re welcome.” (Y/N) added while turning her head to look at the woman beside her.
As they continued to walk around the garden, they spoke about what needed to be done on Arrakis, what needed to be brought, and what needed to be gotten rid of. It was rather domestic they way they mentally sorted through silverware and bits and pieces of furniture like an old married couple. Their lighthearted arguments of whether or not the ornate chess table needed to come along.
“You cannot just leave a gift behind on a planet we’ll never go to again.” Lady Jessica declared.
“A gift that was given almost a hundred years ago, my lady.” (Y/N) retorted, “and besides when have you or anyone here last used it?”
“The point still stands, maybe even more so.”
As well as soft affection to each other too.
Other people in the castle also noticed these interactions as well. Gurney Halleck once spotted Lady Jessica with her head on (Y/N)’s shoulder as they were furiously arguing about whether or not Paul should learn universal history or mathematics first. Lady Jessica’s augment won with the fact that Paul would one day be duke. And dukes need to know what caused several wars which spanned centuries. Duncan Idaho was privy to see them argue with each other too. He saw them in the expansive library debating Bene Gesserit tactics and plans, while their knees ever so slightly tapped each other, more than once and in while.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Everything changed once they got to Arrakis though. There were no afternoon walks because of the scorching sun, there were no more arguments on what should stay or go because there was nothing to leave, and there were no more soft moments spent that lingered because they didn’t have that time anymore. Only after the battle at the Arrakeen, traversing the desert to find safety, and finally meeting the Fremen would provide some form of sanctuary.
In Sietch Tabr, (Y/N) and Jessica were in a tiny bedroom they were given. Both of them had their hair messy and tangled, eyes set back into their faces with new purple eye bags now making their appearance. (Y/N) was walking pacing around their room, back and forth like a fish in a pond back home. Lady Jessica sat on the bed with her hands gently tucked onto her lap and one leg over the other.
“You’re tired, aren’t you?” Lady Jessica asked.
“We all are,” (Y/N) remarked, “my tiredness doesn’t sum to the tiredness of the people and group.” As she continued pacing.
Lady Jessica moved back onto the bed so she was sitting in the middle of it. She crossed her legs over each other.
“Come here.” She said, “rest, even if it’s only for a minute.”
(Y/N) stopped in her tracks. She looked over to where the red headed woman was sitting. Her features lit up by the soft, golden light that seeped through thin cracks in the rocks. Her beauty was a thing that would always be captured in (Y/N)’s mind.
“Alright,” The woman whispered as she walked over to the bed. She sat on the bed and slid back until she could comfortably lay her head on Lady Jessica’s lap. (Y/N) took her hands and laid them on her stomach as the red head started to smooth her hand over (Y/N)’s head.
“What do you make of some of the Fremen calling Paul the ‘Lisan Al-Gaib’?” (Y/N) commented.
“I think it gives us an opportunity to give the people what they want and have been waiting for.” Jessica shared, “They, also, need a new reverend mother.”
“Does this mean you’ll drink the water of life?”
“I’m not sure yet,” she swallowed, “I haven’t given it much thought yet.”
“You’ll need to go to the south, Paul will need to go too if you do decide to drink it.” (Y/N) whispered, “You’ll need to go either way after becoming reverend mother.”
“I know.” Jessica sighed out as she continued to brush her hand over her head, “But all that can wait for tomorrow, rest.”
(Y/N)’s eyes would soon begin to fall as they got more and more heavy. The soothing nature of Jessica touching her head made her feel calmer than she had felt in days. Her muscles slowly began to relax and her head didn’t feel as tight and weighted as before. It didn’t take long before her eyes were fully closed and she was asleep, asking in the presence of Jessica and the love that was between the two. But the last thing she felt was Jessica pressing a tiny kiss to her forehead.
