What's up with the wolves?
This post made me want to talk about Duo and how he was initially conceived as Gundam Wing's protagonist, but instead of derailing OP’s post with my ramblings, I thought it better to make them a separate post.
Tumblr media
We all know this shot of Duo in the first opening, and like many others I, too, have wondered why on Earth the American street urchin character would be sporting heraldic wolves on his jacket as though he’s European nobility.
They never show up in the series proper, just the opening. And there is absolutely nothing about Duo that could remotely relate him to nobility. He's pretty much the furthest thing from it.
...unless we count Deathscythe H's design, which does sport a strong romantic death theme. But that's about as European as Duo gets.
So what if this is the creators being cheeky and including it as a nod to his initial protagonist status before it was given to Heero? Because if Duo was the protagonist, that would mean he would have been Relena's foil, who is of royal blood. And then we would have had the same juxtaposition as this:
Tumblr media
Oh, look, another orphan wearing fancy clothing.
But back to Duo. The precise term for what Duo has emblazoned on his jacket is a wolf rampant. Well, two actually. Would that make them combatant..?
When they're mirrored like that, you expect them to hold a shield. Like these two unicorns here:
Tumblr media
Do you recognize it? It's Romefeller's crest. Romefeller has two white unicorns rampant on a red background while the guy who fights them gets two golden wolves rampant on a black background.
Wait a minute. White, red, gold, black?
Tumblr media
Really?
Someone must have had a field trip with the designs.
Back to the wolves. According to Wikiwand, wolves in heraldry "typically symbolised the rewards of perseverance in long sieges or hard industry." A long siege is definitely what the colonists were going through. Doubly so regarding Duo's crappy childhood.
So is Duo really connected to wolves?
Well, here's a fun fact.
The wolf (French: loup) is often used for canting (meaning heraldic bearings that represent the bearer's name in a visual pun or rebus) by families whose names feature some variant of the word 'lou/wolf'. Examples include Videlou, de Lou, Lupus, Wolferston, Wolseley, Lovett, Lowe, Lovell, Lupton or Wolfe.
Lowe. As in, Odin Lowe. This dude:
Tumblr media
Heero got cheated out of fancy wolf crests.
And here you have it. Before Heero stole Deathscythe's parts for Wing, Duo had gotten Heero's wolf crest. Then again, they would have been wasted on Heero's green tank top anyway, so good for Duo.

This is far from news but I'm refloating this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This painting in the background from the mirror?
It's "Port" by Roland Tamayo
Tumblr media
nervousbreakdance actually posted about it on January 2011
"I’m a pretty big fan of Roland Tomayo’s work. I’m not usually much for surrealism but there’s something really moving about his air-sea life. His characters with their ambivalent expressions seem utterly indifferent to their surroundings, and there’s something tremendously affecting about that when the character is a giant floating whale. That said I’m not usually much for “Heart on your sleeve,” emotionalism in visual art, but here he’s transcending my expectations of those ideas. Some of these images, on an empathetic level, are heartbreaking and that’s an incredible feat. Also, to see his work up close, it shines high gloss, you see the breadth of his strokes, and these things only add to the power of his pieces."

heyo friends, question for all of you:
when you think back to your time in primary/elementary school, what do you remember most fondly? specifically something a teacher did, or a specific lesson/ game/ ritual, but can be something else too!

elia sand, queen of (what’s left of) the seven kingdoms
HEAR ME OUT.
probably the biggest and most important question after you accept “king bran in harrenhal” into your life, is but bran can’t have kids. that’s correct. or well, it’s potentially correct - everyone in universe seems to think he won’t be physically capable of having a child because of his paralysis. BUT. that doesn’t mean he won’t marry nor does that mean that there isn’t a potential benefit to him not being able to have children.
now, there have been several marriages made to bring peace after conflict - dorne is involved in several of thess with the matches of maron & daenerys as well as daeron & myriah. the marriages of robert & cersei and jaehaera and aegon iii were…less successful attempts at this. so even if bran isn’t expected to have kids, it’s possible that a marriage for him would see prudent as a way of brokering peace in some symbolic way. what better candidate than dorne, really, given the similarities between their people and what dorne & the north have lost (in differing colors for formatting reasons)-
"I promise." Promise me, Ned, Lyanna's voice echoed. The prince is a sentimental man, and he still mourns his sister Elia and her sweet babe.
Lyanna had only been sixteen, a child-woman of surpassing loveliness. Ned had loved her with all his heart. "As children Elia and I were inseparable, much like your own brother and sister."
That was his curse. Robert would swear undying love and forget them before evenfall, but Ned Stark kept his vows. He thought of the promises he'd made Lyanna as she lay dying, and the price he'd paid to keep them. "If you die before you say her name, ser, I will hunt you through all seven hells," he promised.
Archmaester Brude, who was born and raised in the shadow city that huddles beneath the crumbling walls of Sunspear, once famously observed that Dorne has more in common with the distant North than either does with the realms that lie between them.
"Robert, I ask you, what did we rise against Aerys Targaryen for, if not to put an end to the murder of children?" "Four lives will suffice for me. Lord Tywin's golden twins, as payment for Elia's children. The old lion, for Elia herself. And last of all the little king, for my father." "The boy has never wronged us."
but why justify elia sand specifically though? well-
Robb bristled at that. "The Westerlings are better blood than the Freys. They're an ancient line, descended from the First Men. The Kings of the Rock sometimes wed Westerlings before the Conquest, and there was another Jeyne Westerling who was queen to King Maegor three hundred years ago."
Arianne read the letter thrice, then rolled it up and tucked it back into her sleeve. A dragon has returned to Westeros, but not the dragon my father was expecting...Fire and blood was what Jon Connington (if indeed it was him) was offering as well. Or was it? "He comes with sellswords, but no dragons," Prince Doran had told her, the night the raven came… “Elia's son... I would weep for joy if some part of my sister had survived, but what proof do we have that this is Aegon?"
wild Elia Sand, a maid of ten-and-four.
Five yards from the gates Elia Sand came flying from the cloud of dust behind them to rush past both of them on her black filly. “Are you half horse, child?" Valena asked, laughing, in the yard. "Princess, did you bring a stable girl?" “I'm Elia," the girl announced. "Lady Lance."
Not even Lord Rickard's daughter could outrace him, and that one was half a horse herself.
When his fallen foes sought to ransom horse and armor, the Knight of the Laughing Tree spoke in a booming voice through his helm, saying, 'Teach your squires honor, that shall be ransom enough.' Once the defeated knights chastised their squires sharply, their horses and armor were returned. And so the little crannogman's prayer was answered.
"Rise. Tell me, who is Lyanna Mormont?" "One of Lady Maege's daughters, Sire. The youngest. She was named for my lord father's sister."
so two joust loving, sassy 14 year old girls are rolling up to A Targaryen Prince who is about to be TESTED by all his Promised Princeliness. Elia Sand, named after Elia, Rhaegar’s wife, and Lyanna, who has a living namesake in Lyanna Mormont. robb justifies his marriage to jeyne by saying kings have married westerlings before…and if elia and aegon elope like some other Unruly 14 Year Old/Targaryen Prince, he has the power to legitimize her, and this excuse could be used again.
As everyone decides what should be done about Bran’s marriage, Elia Sand is pressed forward - she’s around his age (only four years older), she has been legitimized (is perhaps even going by Elia Martell), she is, like jeyne westerling, a crownless little queen without a princely son or a living kingly husband. And as people start to grumble about her baseborn heritage, Arianne will point out that no one is expecting Bran to have children, and it’s merely symbolic - a way of giving Dorne a say in rebuilding Westeros, and if attempting to reunite what’s left of the kingdoms.

patrick was so right when he decided to hold off on recording miss missing you until fall out boy could do it. it is a quintessential fob song to me. i can certainly hear what would have inevitably become a soul punky flavor, and it could have very well worked out for him, but he made a call and he could not have been anymore correct. it literally belongs on save rock and roll and nowhere else.

very random thing but i just had a 9 month late realisation after a conversation with my mom that a groupmate in my group project might have been outright flirting with me and not being nice
i cant believe he asked me to be the "mommy" of the group (the group leader) and when I said i'd rather he be the group leader he said "oh dw. i'll be your daddy if you become the mommy" then sent a wink emoji in the zoom chat and i thought that was just him being funny

and the curtain closes for act 2!
I like how things developed, how it escalated and the little cliffhanger at the end
though I gotta say,Richard feels...off? There seemed to be an attempt at making him understandable but it kinda fell flat on me. Maybe Act 3 and 4 dive more into why he became like that or maybe it's a "well this happened because of this simple reason,no more depth to that" kinda situation.
anyway,I like the little references to Bacchus/Dionysus. As the god of theatre, but also alcohol and madness,he truly is the most fitting Greek God to be mentioned all throughout
A lot like The Secret History, where he played a more background role, always there but never in the limelight except for the bacchanalia
or is he just fitting for Dark Academia type books? Having themes of both alcohol, party, but also madness, panic
partying,or much rather consuming until someone dies and then the madness creeps up on everyone, consuming their lives and souls
