James Madison recently gotten a number from one of his classmates, since the two have a project due next week. Turns out, the number is incorrect which leads him into talking to a total stranger, and then into an absolute disaster.

6- i dont have any stim toys, ive never really delved into that stuff, i was never really given the chance to explore stuff that would help me out with stimming and such. I also dont think i would like stim toys? Maybe i just have to try some but idk.

22- idk any specific songs i stim to. But ive stimmed while listening to mcr, and honestly i just stim to alot of the general songs i listen to. I really like singing along, i think thats a stim of mine, and some songs just listening to them is like stimming (anything with drums and/or guitars)

2- i like blankets a lot. Even if im hot and dont really need one, ill subconsciously grab the blanket on the couch and put it on my lap, and on my bed. There was one day i grabbed a pocket-sized beanie baby and put itin my hoodie pocket, and just knowing it was there made me happy. Also when i was with my friends one of them stuck their hands in my pocket and i panicked and like moved it out of their reach bc i was scared to get made fun of lol, it ended up being fine. I sleep with stuffed animals a lot. I think thats it

3- my school experiences were,,, not fun at all. Theres a lot to unpack there. My schools all had this thing called a “504 plan” or whatever. And it’s supposed to help people with certain disorders/disabilities. Mine only acknowledged my adhd as far as i know. Maybe my anxiety too. Some of the things that were supposed to ‘help’ were moving me to the front of the room, i got extended time to complete stuff (supposedly), extended time on certain tests (which i only saw on the act, literally i got no other extended time to do anything else. And after i got extended time on the act my scores shot up. Imagine the potential if i was given my actual extended time shit) and the meetings were hell. They started to have meetings with me in middle school, sixth grade i think. Having an administrator there, and my parents, and at least one teacher was terrifying to me. I think i cried every meeting. Honestly it felt like an interrogation to me, esp with all the damn eye contact and shit. My dad asked me if i wanted to continue it this year and i was immediately like fuck no nuh uh not happening. And whether or not I actually needed to be in the front of the room depended on the class, teacher, the people in there, but a lot of the time i would just be moved to the front and i would hate it. In eighth grade my math teacher moved me from the back of the room (a favorite seat in that class) to the front of the room in the middle of class for like a week. It was honestly humiliating and the only time i was eventually able to express my opinion on the 504 shit. Actually my freshman math teacher did that too. Ahaha moving on now before this gets too long.

4/5- three negative and positive things about being autistic.

Pros-

(1) i dont really have a chance to not have a hobby. Ive always got an interest to keep me entertained and i like that.

(2) stimming is nice, i like it, im not afraid to let myself stim. Makes me feel better.

(3) im unique and shit. I have a different pov than other people and that allows me to have different ways of thinking. I think outside the box ig. I also have this weird version of confidence and objectivity that I appreciate in myself

Cons-

(1) its hard to feel like i belong somewhere, bc im so different. Im getting better at it but im not good at getting close to people.

(2) i also like,, dont have certain permanence? Like object permanence? A lot of the time i dont really miss things/people unless im somewhere that reminds me of them. Idk if it’s negative really but its something,, even a spin, like bts, i dont really miss them that much until i do. Theyre still very important to me but yeah

(3) people dont really get me the same way other people get other people. And its hard for me to explain it to people. And theres certain people i get more than others. Its weird.

7- people need to give autistics a chance to be heard. Apply the accommodations you “give” them. Dont put them in the spotlight and give them space when needed. We are what you might call “picky” too. Eating, learning, socializing, we have our own things we need to be able to do shit. Learn them. Let us stim. Encourage us to learn about ourselves and remind us that youre there for us. But dont try to help us unless we ask or we actually need help. Dont trigger meltdowns on purpose, stop using the r word even in passing like its not a big deal. Be more than aware of us, accept us, appreciate us. Dont be a bystander.

8- i dont have much experience with meltdowns? I think? If i have i didnt have chances to recover. I had to go back to class or something. Idk how to recognize them in me either.

10- showering. Thats a big thing that even though i kinda need i forget to do. Except during school. I had a whole routine in the morning and i was super punctual. If i didnt shower i would be late, miss the bus, forget something.

12- meat. The way it feels. Disgusting. How do people eat it and not feel like dying? Same with lettuce. Spinach is fine but every time i try to eat lettuce I almost throw up. Bell peppers, pickles, vinegar, mayo, eggs usually, cheese sometimes. Just off the top of my head. One time i tried putting lettuce on my burger, was feeling adventurous, and after biting down i had to just take the lettuce off. Another time, my stepmom (newly married to my dad) made slads for us, and i was skeptical. There was white stuff all over the salad and she wouldnt tell me what it was. I tried eating a little carrot stick thing and almost vomited. Thats when she learned I cannot eat mayo. Even if idk that its mayo i still cant fuckin eat it. She forced me to eat bell peppers one time. Didnt go well at all. At all.

(Not gonna do the spin one bc ive already talked about them and if i do again itll be too long)

15- yes! I only do big stuff(?)(like yelling n shit) when im completely alone. Like if im home alone. Bc i get so loud. Sometimes ill hum in my room or sing to myself in my room though. Its so fun. As for phrases i repeat, ill repeat anything i find interesting. In a movie or song, or even something a friend said. One time my mom said the phrase “tough titty said the kitty but the milks still good” and i went around the kitchen repeating it until she got annoyed. Also sometimes something in the room will have a constant sound and ill like think a phrase to that sound repeatedly. Idk how to explain it lol. Idk if thats echolalia either

16- rocks. Typical i know, collecting rocks. But i just cant help it. I see a rock i like, i pick it up, take it home. I used to collect sticks. OKAY LAUREN

1. i love the description of ruby boomeranging her legs. it’s also an interesting bit of characterization, that her first instinct upon waking is to share a part of herself online.

2. i love this part:

We being Ruby and this being her ex boyfriend from six years ago.

Because Ruby, who lives in a pink room in her parents house, is old enough to have someone that she ended things with that long ago. She’s also old enough to have gotten over him and put him in that little box in the back of her mind. The one labeled ‘high school sweetheart’. It’s a box that is well kept but isn’t ever looked inside of for envy of what once was.

nostalgia is my favorite thing in stories! obviously, because weren’t all of my prompts reunion stories? oops. anyway i love this description and “envy of what once was.” i can see pretty clearly that ruby’s dissatisfied with her life as it’s turned out, living in her parents’ house and all. maybe she looks at her breakup with harry as the point where things started to go downhill.

3. and the line after she opens the invitation where ruby’s already thinking about taking pictures for her instagram! what an interesting and modern character trait.

4. the question of why harry invited her to the wedding is bugging me as i’m reading about ruby’s history, dropping out of college and all that. i guess harry keeps their relationship in a box too, and looks back at it with a kind of fondness but maybe not regret the way ruby does.

5. i LOVE the detail about harry recommending the laundry detergent and that being the reason ruby decides to go to the wedding. it sounds like harry is a sweetheart and a genuinely good person, and the emotional minefield is all on ruby’s side.

6. the recurring image of the pink sheets!!!! so good!!!!!

7. oh god, niall catching ruby taking a self-timer selfie on the bridge. and then his offer to take the picture and then, AH IT ALL MAKES SENSE. she makes her money instagram modeling!! that’s such an interesting career. elizabeth olsen’s character in “ingrid goes west” does that and the movie is pretty critical of the inauthentic nature of the bits of her life that she posts online. now i’m curious about how much of her actual self ruby shares online.

8. it’s so interesting to see ruby interacting with jasmine. her history with these friends that she hasn’t held onto is so real. and ruby seems to be a bit ashamed of her instagram career. i’m interested to see how that develops, and i’m also curious what niall thinks about it. ALSO their history, her grudge against him that she’s held since 6th grade, is sweet. she doesn’t think much of him at this point, so i’m eager to see that change.

9. marcus is the name of the love interest in the jessica darling series (sloppy firsts. second helpings, etc, with my fave being the last book, perfect fifths) and the name is near and dear to my heart so it’s lovely to see that a funny marcus makes ruby comfortable at the wedding.

10. i love niall singing at the wedding and his flirty conversation with ruby and her initial attraction to him being pretty much completely physical. their shared history is also such an interesting contrast with her shared history with harry – because she and harry have always been on good terms but fate had other plans for them, and she and niall have never gotten along. i love contrasts!!!

11. oh man, the post-wedding car hookup. ruby’s freakout and regret is SO immediate and so was her initiating the first kiss – she’s definitely somebody who jumps into things quickly, but i have a feeling that niall’s had a thing for her for a long time. his note is so sweet!!!

12. ruby’s avoidance of the note. oh man, been there, done that. if i don’t open the text, it’s not really there. if i don’t look at it, i don’t have to answer it. i LOVE ruby’s honest answer to “what are you doing?” she seems to struggle with honesty (i’m thinking about the instagram thing again) and with her feelings so i feel like that answer was a big step for her.

13. it’s so interesting to see niall’s apartment and it has me wondering if what ruby and niall have in common at this point is that they’ve both been left behind by harry. their argument-ish thing makes me think that ruby hasn’t totally sorted out her feelings for harry yet, and the way she runs away without asking niall why he’s upset – oh man, she’s definitely an avoider.

14. this is a gilmore girls reference if i live and breathe:

Ruby’s town is small. Not insanely small that everyone knows everyone else’s business or to the point where a town hall meeting could fit into one room.

(i think i just misused the expression “if i live and breathe” but let’s just go with it.)

15. the grocery store conversation is so weirdly awkwardly wonderful. i love how weird grocery stores are. and then running into harry!!! of course they did!!! niall and harry’s bromance is playful but i get the feeling that the friendship means a lot to them – which goes back to my earlier thought about ruby and niall having the loss of harry in common.

16. NIALL IS SO SWEET I CAN’T HANDLE IT. their transition from sleeping together is so seamless and natural and sweet. i love the little glimpses of their time together that you included, trying to share the shower and the music festival. it was cool to see ruby watching niall engage with his fans and to see her reaction to it – and i was worried about fallout on her instagram somehow but then THIS PLOT TWIST

AND THAT ENDING. i love where you ended it – it’s a cliffhanger but it’s not a cliffhanger because we know they work it out. i love that their relationship is so evenly matched with the give and take, like ruby goes over to ask niall to be official and then he goes over to apologize, and he initiates the first date but she initiates the sex. they balance each other really well and they’re so sweet and AHHHH LAUREN.

AND THE “SOMETHING ARRIVED FOR YOU.” AHHHHH THAT’S SUCH A GREAT CIRCULAR ENDING LAUREN I LOVE IT.

IN SUMMARY i love this and it’s adorable and i love the characters and they’re so well-developed and the story is so complex and i’m so glad you chose this prompt because it was my favorite too. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

omg so so first off, i am so sorry it took me so long to respond. i just started my (hopefully) last year of college. even though its a lot of fun at this point, there is just so so so much reading for each course! im sneaking in time now when i should really be reading my archaeology text but yolo!

secondly, it means so so so freaking much that you liked this! i was so nervous because this is my first niall fic and i was hoping to pull it off by giving him a uniquely unharry character. the fact that you find him and ruby to be well developed just really gets me excited! this story came out pretty quick for me because your prompt was just so good but still, i put a lot of effort into making this story authentic so i also really love that you related to some parts! honestly, i dont even know what else to say to this amazingly kind review but idk i am just really grateful and excited and smiley and happy that you didnt hate this!!! Third day of the new year!

Went to hangout with ryan and leighton. They wanted to try marugame udon so!!! Also i saw adam but didnt say hi, oops. In any case. We were like hey let’s do something like walk around! But it rained a little so we bought some cuties from trader joe’s and ended up at ryan’s house and basically sat in his kotatsu for 4 hours then i came home. I also finally know how it feels like when the manga says that your legs get tangled inside the kotatsu. And when you literally cannot get out of it. Plus the feeling of losing the ability to walk because ya gurl tried to stand up after crawling out of the kotatsu and just fell back down What a day LOL

went to portland with alice to check out apartments!!! woot. lots of fun going around/looking at the city. landed on thursday night and waited at the airport for alice and ate mcdonalds/watched the office haha friday: alice had work all day ): so i went out to meet up with yuri and leslie who happened to be out in portland too! walked to the alberta arts district to eat with them at pok pok noi. just walked around afterwards exploring in the rain before getting back home to eat dinner with alice at like 8…lol we went to bamboo sushi in sw and alice treated me to omakase as a congrats on getting my new yob!! woot also did some walking around in the neighborhood - will likely spend quite a bit of time in the powell city of books! saturday: the day we actually went out to see properties! grabbed some blue star donuts and headed into nw district - looked at some apartments and then grabbed lunch at this cute italian place that i will most likely frequent. started talking to alice about stuff and being weak, i cried and then we got free hazelnut ice cream…LOL. it was really good sunday: since we toured places that i actually liked yesterday, we basically just decided to walk around different areas. waterfront park, pioneer square…we spent a while in nordstrom rack and sephora looking for stuff for alice! lol. then dinner again at bamboo sushi and dessert at salt & straw :> monday morning: waking up early to get to the airport for alice’s flight. bought more donuts at the airport for mom! then i sat at the airport watching the office and eating until the airplane ride where i got a whole row to myself~

and that was my portland trip shortened LOL. but~ excited about the new city, definitely excited about the donuts!

February 19th

My first day of work!! Went in earlies and had onboarding for about two hours with amother new hire. Then i returned to my room where i met my coworker and my manager! Both of whom are in the same room and we each have a desk. (Ima have to request a standing desk :O) anywayss. Got a company laptop - thank god it’s not bulky. And then i’ve got two monitors on my desk too! #bless

Then jlw went through more ux stuff with me and i also went to a stand up meeting. Like. Those are real man. Then went to company lunch! Where new hires introduce themselves and i realize that i have never used a dishwasher before and everyone was shookt lol.

Afterwards, i went to a sprint meeting AND BOIIIII PLANNING POKER DOE??? Lololol. I have to say i did not understand a single thing that was going on. Took about an hour and a half…

Anyways. went back in where jlw continued where she left off and then finally let me read some onboarding stuff on my own before she headed out at 4 and then me, leaving swiftly at 4 as well LOL

SO that was my first day! Trying to get everything in order - i hope that everything goes great and that i learn lots and lots! :> although…windows computer already killing me, no wonder people use mouses instead of the trackpad. Also…gotta learn Axure + in depth photoshop so…WOOT WOOT

I went bowling today!! It was an engineering celebration so i thought - why not, let’s be social for a little bit. And it turned out to be fun~ we had some fuds and i played two rounds. And I got a strike in one of the rounds! Woot woot. Anyways. It was enjoyable, not as awkward as i had envisioned. Also i was able to successfully catch the bus home so that was great :>

In other news. It looks like my one on one anxiety wont dissipate soon. Esp since last week, the vp of engineering just sent me a calendar invite for a one on one and i literally got stressed out for a straight 30 min before i said yes to the invite and could slowly go back to focusing on work lol…. EDIT: it ended up being around 15 minutes and i did not really enjoy it at all

Ok so i finally talked to this girl at work (who i think is really pretty omfg) the other day and she’d been curling her hair recently and as we were walking out of the bathroom i was like I REALLY LIKE YOUR HAIR And then she said my hair is so straight and healthy - “do you straighten it? It’s really pretty” and i’m just over here crying on the inside because it looks like hay and only happened to be really straight that day for god knows what reason. SO BASICALLY THE STARS ALIGNED JUST SO WE COULD HAVE THIS CONVERSATION Also she said she recently bought a curler that just “does it for you” and gurl i need that because idk how to DO ANYTHING TO MY HAIR UGH
