Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)
Chapter One: Edge of Seventeen
Billy Hargrove x Reader (Series)
Tumblr media
Summary: After the events of last year, all (Y/N) Hopper can do is hope for a bit of normal. But having an adopted sister with superpowers, a gaggle of 13 year olds to tend to, and a new boy in town, things are bound to get stranger.
part two! part three!
(A/N: reader is hopper’s daughter but as a mixed person, i’m just pretending that his ex wife was hispanic, and that sarah was just mixed, too. also, i tried to use y/n as little as possible, but i still used it a few times. sorry!)
*****
“You better be in there, or you’re grounded.” Hopper stood on the other side of her bedroom door. He always decided to be particularly annoying at 6:30 in the morning, and he loved to bring up the fact that she had snuck out literally one time 2 years prior.
“Jesus, Dad, you’re so annoying!” She buried her face into her pillow and flipped him off through the door when she heard him let out a low chuckle, after which he approached Eleven’s door next.
“You up? It’s time for breakfast.” He sounded muffled, but (Y/N) could clearly hear the difference in tone.
It was strange, and she felt guilty to even suggest this, but ever since El had moved in, Hopper seemed to be finding more and more faults within his own daughter. Nothing too serious, but he teased more and acted like she wasn’t nearly 18, for god’s sake. Lately, he had become a helicopter parent, and it was especially embarrassing when he would insist on driving her places with his big police car.
“Are you coming to eat?” Eleven knocked softly, her words deliberate and well practiced during her time alone.
“Yeah, just let me piss first.” It was fun to teach El the things Hopper wouldn’t, like swear words and pop culture. She always giggled when learning about things she knew Hopper would disapprove of.
“Real good example for El, huh?” He stood against the wall as she opened the door.
She just rolled her eyes, stepping past him and to the bathroom.
Looking in the mirror for a moment, she noticed the bags under her eyes. After the events of last year, she had frequent nightmares. Men in suits coming to take Eleven away, demogorgons chasing her through the woods, Jonathan and Nancy taking Barb’s place. They came every night and terrorized what little sleep she got, dominating her subconscious with ferocity. It was getting harder now that it had been around a year, and it probably didn’t help that she spent most of her free time with the Byers, witnessing Will’s recovery first hand.
She pissed and washed her hands, opting to brush her teeth after she ate.
“I am confused. What is Halloween?” El turned to her sister of less than a year as soon as she walked into the main area of the cabin. The little superhero pointed at the television and an ad for a horror movie marathon on Halloween Night played softly.
“It’s a holiday! Kids dress up in costumes and get candy from neighbors, and teenagers usually just watch scary movies and go to parties.”
“No parties.” Hopper walked to the little dining table and placed 3 plates of eggs and bacon.
It was like he had a vendetta against the other kids her age in Hawkins. His deep disdain for the kids Steve used to hang around made sense, but he really only liked Jonathan and sometimes Nancy at this point. Maybe Steve, if he wasn’t being too annoying that day. It was pretty frustrating that the only person she could hang out with and get no complaints from her dad was constantly busy, either with some job he was doing or obsessing after Nancy. But, she couldn’t complain. She was pretty sure that whenever she started liking someone, she would be pretty annoying about it, too.
“I wasn’t born yesterday, Dad. Also, I was wondering if I could sleepover at Robin’s on Saturday?”
Robin was the best friend (Y/N) could ever ask for. After meeting at work, the animal shelter, they instantly hit it off. It didn’t matter that Robin was a year younger, or that she didn’t know about the Upside Down. She was a good friend, who actually cared about her, and genuinely wanted what was best for the both of them. Even Hopper had to admit that.
“Yeah, that’s fine. I can give you some money for pizza if you want.” He smiled gently, glancing over at his daughters.
He truly did love them. After Sarah, when his wife left, he completely expected (Y/N) to follow her mother. But she didn’t. She chose her dad, and he felt so lucky that she wanted to be with him. He’d watched her grow from just a little baby to the beautiful young woman she was becoming, and honestly, he couldn’t be more proud, even if he did want her to stay a child a little longer. And Eleven? God, did he feel bad for her. He had overheard some of the late night talks his daughters had in the small cabin, heard the horror stories of Hawkins Lab. How a 13 year old girl had still managed to come out of a childhood like that and still be so kind? It baffled him, but he was grateful anyway. Sure, he couldn’t take her to the movies like he wanted to, and sure, he couldn’t have a picture of her in his office. But he was just grateful to have saved her in the woods before something truly awful could happen to her. And most of all, he was grateful that they got along and actually cared about each other.
“Come eat your breakfast, we’re leaving in 20 minutes.”
*****
As she walked the hallways of Hawkins High she fiddled with the pendant of her matching necklace that she had bought for herself and Eleven. It was a little blue flower pendant on a silver chain, and they both wore it every single day. Once, Eleven thought she had lost it during her shower, but since she never left the cabin, it was pretty easy to find.
“Hey, I was looking for you!” Robin bounced up and linked their arms together.
“My dad said Saturday’s cool. I just want to be back by noon on Sunday.” She couldn’t tell Robin, but she had been promising El that they would have a Star Wars marathon, as it was something Mike liked, and honestly, (Y/N) enjoyed them, too.
“That’s fine. My mom got some weird foot scrub thing that’s supposed to take all the dead skin off. Did you know the white flaky shit on your heels is dead skin?! I thought it was like, cellulite for your foot. Maybe I’m crazy, though. Also, she has a coupon for Family Video if you wanna rent a movie. A Nightmare On Elm Street just came out, and there’s Johnny Depp for you and Heather Langenkamp for me. Although, you probably like Heather, too. Oh, and—” Robin rambled, but it was totally endearing. Usually she just talked until she tired herself out or something interrupted her.
“Hey!” Steve saddled up beside (Y/N), paying Robin no mind. “Did you hear that there’s a new kid?”
Honestly, she hadn’t. She usually had her walkman playing as she walked around, but today she forgot it. Still, with Robin in her ear, she had missed the gossip.
“Yeah? Where are they from?”
“California, I think. Name’s Billy or something. He pulled up in this loud ass Camaro and scared the shit out of Eleanor Nichols.” Steve ran his hand through his hair and slung an arm around his friend.
They had become a bit close last year when all of the shit with the lab had calmed down. Steve was a really nice person to talk to since she didn’t want to bother Jonathan now that his brother was back. He was totally different than what she had expected, but she still felt a little guilty liking him so much when she knew he was with the girl Jonathan wanted.
“Wonder why he would come here of all places.” She mused to herself, waving at both Robin and Steve as she walked into her class. Steve and Robin didn’t even look at each other as they both walked in different directions.
*****
Jonathan slid into the seat next to her at lunch, a routine they always followed. They handed each other half their sandwich, a PB&J for a turkey and cheese. It was something they had done since they were kids, and they didn’t plan on stopping anytime soon.
“My mom is wondering when you’re gonna come by again.”
“Oh, whenever! I’ve just been a little busy with El, she’s been really clingy. Not that I mind, obviously. I just always feel guilty leaving her alone so long that I really only do my own shit on the weekends when Hopper’s home.”
“No, that makes sense. I hate dropping Will off at school, I just wish I could go with him.” Jonathan ate his chips, passing the bag to her.
“You wanna be in middle school again?” She laughed and took a handful.
“Fuck, no. I’m done with swirlies.”
Unfortunately, both her and Jonathan dealt with a lot of bullying in middle school. Why did kids think it was funny that someone’s parents were divorced? And holy shit, when they found out her sister had died, she had a huge target on her back.
“Hear about the new kid?” Jonathan scribbled in his notebook, some english assignment he didn’t do last night.
“That’s all anyone’s talking about. I haven’t seen him, though.”
“The girl behind me in third period called him ‘pure sex’. What does that even mean?”
As if the universe was listening to him, Billy Hargrove pushed through the double doors separating the hall and the cafeteria, a black leather jacket and blue denim jeans adorning his body. With an AC/DC graphic t-shirt, one dangly silver earring, a cigarette, and pure confidence, he strolled past the staring masses and sat alone at a table. He winked at Holly Peterson, a preacher’s daughter, to which she gasped and turned back around.
“That’s what it means, Byers. That guy has totally had a threesome.”
“Dude!”
“No, you physically can’t tell me he hasn’t.”
“…”
“My point, exactly.”
*****
Robin was constantly late, and it was pretty much her only flaw. She mostly forgot about time, and only remembered when she was already late. Luckily, the animal shelter was about a 10 minute walk away from the high school, so they could run and just change into their uniforms at work.
It was actually a pretty decent job. Feeding the cats and dogs, taking the dogs on walks, petting the cats, changing the litter boxes, cleaning the kennels, petting the dogs, helping with adoptions, and manning the front desk. The best part, however, was seeing how happy the animals got when the girls walked into their section. Even the meanest, grumpiest animals just needed a little love and understanding. And, honestly, something awful probably had to have happened for them to turn out that way, so (Y/N) approached every situation with empathy and a limitless well of understanding.
The best dog in the entire kennel was named Yosemite, and he was a little rottweiler. He was found in an abandoned trailer, starving and cold, but he was taken to the shelter where (Y/N) had worked tirelessly to bring him back up to a healthy weight. Honestly, Yosemite was her passion project. She had been begging Hopper to let her adopt him, stating that a dog would be good protection for Eleven, and honestly, Hopper was coming around.
Honestly, Hopper was running late. Although he usually picked up his daughter after every shift, he was nowhere to be found at by 7:30, 45 minutes after her shift had ended.
Robin had offered to stay, but (Y/N) insisted her dad was on the way and would flip when he arrived and she wasn’t there. So Robin left, and she waited.
“Thanks, Dad. I’d totally love to walk home after sunset in October. Nah, I’m sure I’ll be fine. It’s not like I’m an attractive teenage girl alone at night with no way to defend myself.” She pulled herself together and began her walk home, about 10 miles. “I’ll get there in two motherfucking months!”
She didn’t even care about how hungry she was, how exhausted. Pure anger fueled her walk, annoyance at her dad. She really hoped he had a good excuse, like some police emergency. If she found out he was just at home sleeping she was going to go apeshit.
She had actually made it about 2 miles (45 minutes later) when a recognizable white ford pickup sped by, splashing her with a freezing roadside puddle.
“FUCK!” She screamed, completely drenched and furious. She knew that truck. It belonged to Jackson Mulroney, the baseball captain. He was a shitty guy who had been arrested once by Hopper for sexual assault, eventually getting the charges dropped by his daddy’s lawyer. He was gross, and he most likely did it on purpose.
She sat down on the muddy ground, not caring at this point. She cried, like truly ugly cried. She was freezing and hungry and still had around 3 more hours of walking to do, depending on how long she stayed there. Cars whizzed past, and she hoped they didn’t recognize her, but she just couldn’t bring herself to keep walking.
Some time later, a blue Camaro slowly stopped next to where she rested. The passenger side window rolled down.
“You alright?” A deep voice spoke, their face obstructed by the darkness of the evening.
“No.”
“Need a ride?”
She stood, knowing far too much about serial killer tactics from Hopper to trust this stranger so easily.
“No, I don’t think so.” She turned and kept walking, adrenaline pushing her along.
“Well, how far have you got to go?” He drove alongside her.
“None of your business.”
A passing car’s headlights illuminated the person inside.
It was Billy Hargrove.
“Look, I can’t just let you walk god knows how far, soaking wet when it’s 45 degrees outside. Get in the car.”
“I’m muddy and going to get your seats wet.”
He rummaged around in the backseat, eventually finding a towel and laying it across the passenger seat.
“I really don’t know why you have a towel back there.” She opened the door and could practically hear Hopper screaming at her to not get in the car, but it was his fault she was out here anyway.
“Nah, you don’t.”
She slid into the seat, the heated air a welcome sensory change. “Oh, shit. It’s so warm in here.”
“Yeah. I hate the cold.” He shook his head and turned the volume of his radio down.
“You’re from California, right? Left up here, by the way.”
“So, you’ve heard of me?” He smiled as he turned left.
“Everyone has. I’m (Y/N) Hopper.”
He repeated her name as if he was committing it to memory.
“Can I ask why you’re soaking wet? It hasn’t rained since this morning.”
“Because my dad never picked me up from work and after I just decided to walk, Jackson fucking Mulroney drive by at 85 miles per hour through a puddle.”
“Damn. I know all about shitty dads.”
“He’s not shitty. But he’s the chief of police,” a good fact to mention just in case he was a serial killer after all, “so he’s just always really busy. Turn right here.” She was pissed at her dad, sure, but she was adamant that he was still a good father.
“Oh.” Billy wasn’t sure what to say.
“I’m just gonna rant to you for a minute. Is that okay?”
“Go right ahead, Princess.”
She felt heat rise to her cheeks ever so slightly and nodded.
“He’s usually there early, so there better be a good fucking excuse for this. I mean, I started walking at 7:30, and now it’s…” she checked Billy’s watch, her own needing a new battery after getting soaked, “8:37!”
“Maybe there was a problem at the station.” Seeing this girl he didn’t really know so frustrated was weird for Billy. He wasn’t used to people opening up so easily, being so transparent with their thoughts and feelings, let alone swearing about it. Billy was used to girls being coy, playing the long game. He really liked her frankness and honesty.
“I fucking hope so. Shit, I don’t mean I want there to be a problem.” She bit her lip as she briefly considered that there were more Upside Down related problems.
“He could have at least arranged for someone to pick you up, though.”
“I didn’t even consider that!”
Billy chucked at her outrage and kept driving. She really did have a long ass way to walk.
“You can let me out here. My house is like, actually in the woods, so I’m fine.” She started to unbuckle and Billy shook his head.
“How far into the woods?”
“Like a 4 minute drive, it’s fine.” She started to open the door, but he stretched across the center console and shut it for her.
“I’m not about to let you get eaten by a bear or some shit.” He pulled into a little side road and she led the way.
“Thank you, by the way.”
“Don’t mention it.”
She got the impression that Billy was someone who really cared about his reputation. His perfectly styled hair, the flashy car, the really good cologne. She would have felt embarrassed about being muddy in such an attractive boy’s car, but she was so tired at this point that she couldn’t bring herself to care. She could agonize over it later.
“I’ll make it up to you somehow. Need a lunch buddy?”
“A lunch buddy?” He laughed, like actually laughed. He hadn’t heard that term since second grade.
“Yeah, me and my friend Jonathan sit near the bathrooms. Sometimes we sit outside in the spring. You can join us if you want to.”
“You know, I might take you up on that. That annoying chick Carrie or something will not leave me alone.”
“Carol? Yeah, she sucks ass. She started a rumor in middle school that I was a cult leader. Can you imagine a 12 year old sacrificing virgins?”
They were approaching the cabin and Hopper’s van wasn’t outside. Eleven had been alone way longer than usual.
“This your castle, Princess?”
“The one and only. Thanks, Billy. I’ll see you tomorrow?”
“Table near the bathrooms. Got it.” He flashed a charming grin, very practiced and perfected. She tried not to swoon as she walked up to the steps.
She knocked in the specific pattern El knew as Billy peeled off. His engine was extremely loud.
“Late.” Eleven called from her bedroom.
“Yeah, Dad never picked me up. A friend had to drive me home.” Were they friends? Not really, but it just seemed like a lot to explain to the young teenager.
“Hopper is not home?” She stepped out of her room and into the main area.
“No. Did you eat yet?”
“Why are you so dirty?”
“I got splashed. Let me change and I’ll make some macaroni and cheese.” She walked past Eleven and into her bedroom.
Where the fuck was Hopper?
*****
The next day, gossip around Hawkins High was that Billy Hargrove had beat up Jackson Mulroney. Jackson had gone home with two black eyes, a split lip, and a broken nose. When asked why, Billy just shrugged and said, “Fucker should drive carefully.” The irony wasn’t lost on him.
“I’m serious, I haven’t seen someone that injured since I fucked up Steve in the alleyway.” Jonathan laughed to himself in the cafeteria at the table near the bathrooms.
“Which you got arrested for, so don’t try to act all cool.”
“Still fucked him up.” It was a point of pride for Jonathan, something he knew he had over the boy Nancy seemed to like so much.
(Y/N) rolled her eyes. She absolutely planned on asking Billy about it when he sat down. Was this over last night? Jackson obviously deserved it, but she couldn’t believe Billy would do something like that for a near stranger. She was almost certain something else must have happened between them.
“Shut up and eat your sandwich.”
Seemingly appearing out of nowhere, Billy sauntered over to the pair. He had been given detention, but didn’t mind much. It wasn’t like that was new for him.
“Hello, Princess. You’re Jonathan?” He sized up the boy sitting with his new friend.
“Hey, man. Yeah.” Jonathan nodded and stuck out his hand for Billy to shake. It was firm, not particularly aggressive or friendly.
“Sit! We were actually just talking about you.” Billy raised his eyebrows, again admiring her candor. “Heard about your little scuffle with Jackson.” She took a really big bite of the turkey and cheese.
“Did you? Well, I’m pretty sure you know why.”
Jonathan glanced between the two. She had mentioned that they would have a guest at lunch but she didn’t mention that it would be Billy. She had also mentioned that someone had driven her home after Hopper didn’t show, and Jonathan connected the dots.
“Jackson splashed you?” He was pretty mad.
“Yeah, it doesn’t matter. Clearly, Billy handled it for me.” She gave him a small smile and slid him her apple and chips. “Where’s your lunch?”
He didn’t have one. Neil and Susan didn’t grocery shop, they just brought home shitty fast food or let Max and Billy fend for themselves. He’d had too many cans of chili this week, usually just eating dinner anyway.
“Forgot it. Thanks.” He was secretly extremely grateful and couldn’t believe he’d found the one nice person in Hawkins, Indiana.
“We share food all the time. I have a banana if you want it.” Jonathan offered, holding it out for Billy.
“Sure. Thanks.” Two nice people.

October 1st, 2012 Monday 6:00 PM
"KEVIN!" "KEVIN! KEVIN!"
Oh great, not those two again.
Today is the first day of October, which meant Halloween was coming soon enough. A holiday that employees that serve the public can't certainly enjoy. Unfortunately, I had the pleasure of being the only guy who sold candy in this crappy town. As a result, this business was almost busy. My two best customers– If I could even call them that, viewing, I give them free candy every day waddled themselves here.
I sighed, "What'll be kids?"
Ugh, I don't know why I asked! I already knew what they wanted! But these two do love Bocadins. I don't blame them; they're delicious. I'm not entirely sure why they don't use the actual name, but whatever.
"Can we get a candy can? Please, Kevin!" "We'd waited all year like you said!" "Yeah! It's finally the spooky month!"
Right...
Kevin's Flashback
The Candy Club shop had existed for a while. Funny enough, I never thought I'd work at this place. Jeez, I didn't even think I'd be the only employee in this dead-end job. In middle school, I remembered when this building was under construction. I had to be around fourteen when everybody realized a new business was opening in this tiny town. I was definitely an eighth-grader when this happened. I don't have the best memory. By the time I reached sophomore year, it had finally finished production. With a small town and low labor, it was bound to take a few years to complete.
After Candy's Club's grand opening, the place was frequently packed, visited by everybody I knew. Literally.
It was next to my high school and a couple of neighborhoods. So it was bound to get heavy traffic. If I had to be honest, I always dreamed of visiting the place, but I couldn't. Of course, it didn't help that my walking route to home, school, and my best friend's place forced me to walk in front of the business occasionally. So it was almost every day I walked past it.
I remember the first day I visited. I wasn't a huge fan of candy. Scratch that. My parents were heavily against it, so I couldn't form a strong opinion on it. So I never really knew whether or not I would've had a sweet tooth in my younger years. Now in my early twenties, I can finally say I love sugary food, which, if you haven't noticed, includes candy.
Radford was honestly the one who took me for the first time. He'd just turned sixteen and applied at the local theater we used to visit during our free time. The place he applied at wasn't JUST a theater; it had an arcade and was pretty cool. Radford was the one who mainly spent all his allowance and time there.
Anyways, he got the job. No surprise there. Radford knew the owner due to how frequently we visited. He had a great relationship with the guy. Man, Radford didn't even have to go through the struggle and process of an interview. He was hired on the spot when he asked. What a lucky guy...
Radford was more than happy when he realized he was hired on the spot. The first thing he did was excessively call me. Even though Radford smiled joyfully when we met, my parents weren't. They were upset with the bill they got from the calls from Radford.
We'd typically celebrated things by, well, hanging at the theater/arcade, but Radford wanted to change things up. To be fair, I don't think you should celebrate the news of your brand new job at– well, your new job location. With the theater being a no-go, he wanted to try out the new candy shop with me. The one that everybody in our high school went crazy on. The Candy Club.
I was excited. But I had to pretend I didn't want to. What if my parents saw it? I freaked out, knowing my parents would've grounded me for something so small.
"Come on, dude, you gotta at least try it. Your parents aren't even here. What are you so worried about?" Radford could tell I was nervous when we walked closer to Candy Club. But, of course, Radford being the worst friend I ever had, found this funny. Jerk.
"You know my parents can sense when I did something wrong! They're like super crazy freaks–! Oh crap, I shouldn't have said that. What if they heard?!" I could visually remember how I looked around my surroundings just in case one of them was watching me, but not a single figure. That didn't even matter to young me. He was still feeling uneasy.
I was an extremely paranoid kid. I didn't have abusive parents; they were sweet but heavily overprotective, and they could've been harsh at times too. I was the only child they had, so that could be why they were so weird sometimes. They were against anything considered unhealthy, like pizza, burgers, or whatever. Obviously, that included sugary substances. For most of my life, I was on a strict vegan diet.
Man, I remembered when I had my first bite of a burger. It was so delicious. Radford took me all around town, trying out different fast-food restaurants. Grills & Boys had to be my favorite restaurant at the time! It's a shame it wasn't like it used to be before.
I think today; I still might be a little paranoid. Not as much as before, thankfully. But I still kept up with eating vegetables. I had to maintain my figure somehow; it's not every day you see some good-looking guy down the street! Right? I'm kidding.
I worry a lot; it's the one thing I'm known for. Radford constantly has to remind me to 'calm the fuck down,' but what does he know? His life was much smoother than my miserable one.
"Dude. You're the super crazy freak. Come on." He mocked. He found my terrified outbursts funny. But, like I said, Radford didn't take me seriously. Even today, he's still basically the same person.
He forcefully dragged me to the candy shop, ignoring my complaints whenever I mentioned what my parents would do to me if they found out. After that, which would've been nothing, I was just all talk.
My parents wouldn't have done anything necessarily wrong to me. The worst thing they could've done was a long boring lecture about how sugary foods can kill me. Just the usual on what their speeches were usually about.
When we entered the place, we were greeted heavily by the only employee who worked before me. To get this straight, no, I wasn't the first to work at Candy Club. I'm glad I wasn't the first employee at this shit establishment. I would've been more disappointed if I had worked here since the beginning it was built.
"Hey! Welcome to the Candy Club! Where your satisfaction is our treat!"
At the time, previous Candy-Club employees had to say this 'slogan' whenever someone entered the store. That has never changed. It's required for all employees to say once a customer comes in. But I don't do it. I refuse to say it because I find it so stupid.
Radford was the first who started talking to the guy. It looked like they knew each other, once again, not even a surprise. Radford liked speaking to people. I didn't.
"Hey, Dennis! Did you get your latest shipment in?" Radford asked, pushing up his glasses as they were clearly a bit too big for him. I never knew why Radford wouldn't get actual glasses that fitted his face, but whatever. He was a weird guy. He still is, actually, now that I think about it. Radford doesn't even wear actual glasses anymore. I'm pretty sure he has contacts. He didn't even need authentic glasses, so he replaced them with 3D glasses, nerd.
At the time, Radford had a sweet tooth, constantly chewing on some type of flavored gum. Back in high school, that's all he ever ate throughout his school days. Now? Not so much. Let's just say he frequently visits our local Dentist in town now.
I'm not entirely sure how Dennis, you know, the first ever Candy Club employee, and Radford's friendship began. Still, I can just guess that Radford was his best customer, considering all the sweets he bought had the Candy-Club logo on them.
"Just got it earlier this morning! Who's ya new friend there?" Dennis responded and pointed right at me, not knowing who I was. The town was small, so sometimes everybody knew each other, but I wasn't as social as Radford back then. Few people knew me. Not like I cared. I much preferred that way!
Up until when I became the new guy who sold candy in town. Fucking Dennis... I shouldn't have listened to him.
"Oh, this lame guy? Come on, dude, introduce yourself!"
Radford was a much more talkative person. He was more playful, open, and much more of an asshole than me. But, we had similar traits, and we were both... Never mind, I lied. We actually don't have anything in common. He was the one who spoke to me first back in middle school. Radford never even left me alone; he was so talkative. How we met is a story for another day.
I glared at him, irritated by the name-calling. Lame guy... you're the lame guy, Radford.
Dennis was— gazing at me. He seemed like a friendly guy. He had blonde hair and had to be older than us by a couple of years. At the time, I recalled rolling my eyes and giving out a huge groan. I wasn't the best at introducing myself to new people during my teen years. Now that I'm in my early twenties, I am even worse at talking to new people. So it's Radford who gets me to chat with somebody new.
"Kevin," I said, this being all I managed to tell Dennis.
"Nice to meet ya, Kev. Say, what's your favorite candy–?"
Why did he care? If you could compare Dennis and me, we're both entirely different. It's clear Dennis enjoyed his job, interacting with customers, and everything this job had to offer. Me? Not so much. Sure, it was nice to talk to people without forcing a conversation. Still, I soon realized anybody who came through that glass door would verbally abuse me for no reason. That's business, though! Great.
I cut Dennis off midway through his sentence, "I don't like candy. Not really my thing." I told him, crossing my arms. I frowned at him. Dennis was probably around 19 years old when I first met him. I don't talk to him now. He's closer to Radford, not me. I do see him occasionally, but it's just awkward.
I heard a loud sigh. The sigh came from nobody else but from Radford. "Come on, man! Kevin has never had candy before. He doesn't even have an opinion on it! He has no say in anything half of the time!"
I sneered at this as I crossed my arms and looked away from the duo. I was pissed. Yeah, it was true, but it wasn't like I wanted everybody to know about it.
"Is that true? Huh. Say, Kev, grab a scoop of those fruit gummies. I'd think you'll enjoy them." Dennis said, now he too was crossing his arms. But he wasn't upset. He remained happy the entire time, which I respected about Dennis for a long time. Dennis was still annoying, though.
It's not like I was a downer all the time. I just genuinely had no idea how to respond or even react to things.
"It's Kevin. And where? there's a lot of candy in here."
Dennis' head pointed to the left side of the place.
"Top row, pink bin."
Dennis was an asshole, too. I knew he was messing with me when he was facing the bin on the tallest shelf of the store. See, sixteen-year-old Kevin wasn't the tallest person at the time. I was a 5'4 kid, pretty much considered short at the time. I grew taller since then, but Radford continued to tower over me. I continued to glare at Dannis. He should know why I'd be pissed off.
"I can't reach that."
They both laughed with each other, with Radford being the loudest in the room.
"No worries, Kev, that's on me! I'll get it for ya!"
"Whatever," I said, turning my head away so I didn't have to face these two. Radford was already annoying on his own, and adding Dennis? They were even much more irritating and more menacing than these two stupid kids right in front of me—
Oh no! Oh crap! I forgot they were still here!
Dammit, Kevin! You need to quit dozing off on the job! This is how you get your candy stolen! You're lucky these two aren't 3 miserable preteens who wore hats!!
"Hey, err, Kevin? Are you okay?" Skid was the first to ask. He seemed concerned, but I could tell he was mainly curious about why I had been staring at the wall for a good minute.
"Yeah! You were looking at the wall for a while! Are you sick, Kevin?" Pump was more considerate than the other. Well, they both are, but Pump was typically the one who usually acted.
Huh, I forget they both are good kids. I just wished they had stopped pouring through my store, screaming at the tops of their lungs. They're not bad kids. Hell, they're the only two decent human beings who don't entirely make fun of me.
Lila and Pump's mother told the truth when they said these two kids were the purest and most excellent boys. But god, how destructive they were.
"I have some medicine the man in the van gave us!" Pump shouted, taking some mysterious bottle out of his backpack.
What the hell?
"What? What are you two talking about?! Give me that!" I completely ripped the bottle out of Pump's hands and tossed it in the trash.
"Stop talking to strangers, you two! Don't you know how dangerous that is? Where'd did you even get that from!"
These two are oblivious! How aren't they dead yet?! I can't even imagine what their parents must deal with at home! I'm glad they're not my kids! I'll never be a dad.
I groaned as I reached to grab the two pieces of candy I had saved for these two earlier today before they ran out. After pulling my hand from behind my desk, they both practically had stars in their eyes when they realized what I had.
My glare soon faded away. I smiled. It was nice to see happy faces on people. Especially innocent children. I can tell why Dennis loved this job. But, listen, I don't hate these two kids. But, as I said, they sometimes are too loud and dangerous.
I gave these two a long genuine smile. Then, with the two pieces of candy I had, I dropped them into their hands.
"Remember, they're called Bocadins. Call them by their real name next time, will ya?"
"Whoa! Thanks, Kevin! You're the best! And we will!" They said to me both at the same time. Jeez, it's like their heads are telepathically connected.
"Yeah, yeah. Now go away." I said, my smile now fading quickly. I squinted at these two. That was enough socialization for me today.
Instead of walking out of my store, they just stared at me! What the hell could they possibly want now? They got what they wanted. Why are they still staring at me? They could be so weird sometimes!
"What? What do you want?"
Pump and Skid looked at each other and started giggling. They were whispering pretty loudly to each other. A ton of 'No! No! You tell him! No, you!' Okay, now these two were getting on my nerves already.
"Tell me before I kick you both out."
They continued to giggle as they both finally turned to face me. Whatever it was, it was obviously so important.
"Did you hear, Kevin? There's a new haunted house! You should go!"
"Yeah! You'll like it, Kevin!"
Not that important, apparently. Sighing, I gave the two one last smile for the night.
"Sorry, kids, those things aren't for me. Now go away, please. I'm tired. I had a rough night last night!"
They looked disappointed. Of course, since they're Skid and Pump, they looked at each other, and a smile suddenly formed quickly.
"Oh well, let's go, Pump!"
"Oh, okay! Let's go see the new guy!"
New guy? What new guy? Was this the second thing they would tell me if I agreed to go!?
"New guy? What are you two talking about?"
I tried to get an answer from these two, but they were already running out of the store! Why are they so quick with things?!
"Bye, Kevin!!!"
That was the last thing they said before I stood there, confused. What new guy can they possibly be talking about? Who would even move to this town?!

alright it’s time for Switch’s List of October/Halloween Games: Updated Edition
any game listed here either is a horror game, or has suitable aesthetics/theming, and on the older or niche side. naturally, disclaimer to check content warnings on any game you may be interested in.
bolded games: full recommendation to check out
italic games: mostly here for the sake of being thorough, they’re not well-liked and i wouldn’t personally recommend them, but they may be a curiosity or you may find something you like
bolded italic games: picture i’m making the so-so hand gesture. there may be technical hurdles to running it, or it’s just a game i have more mixed feelings on.
if you want the best Myst-like game, which makes well-balanced QoL improvements to the genre that allows it to appeal to both myst-like enthusiasts and people who might not normally like them, with fantastic audio/visual design: play Shivers
if you want one of the best adventure games and one of the best story adaptations ever made: play I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream
if you want a uniquely free-form dark humor adventure game that still has a plot, different endings, different playable characters, optional objectives, and the 2nd most unpleasant visuals i’ve ever seen (and i mean this as a compliment): play Bad Day on the Midway
if you want the most unpleasant visuals i’ve ever seen (this is a compliment), a highly unique adventure game with multiple endings, and you also want to support a creator-revived game that was inaccessible for years and isn’t talked about enough: play Garage Bad Dream Adventure
if you want an adventure game with frequently obtuse mechanics but fantastic stop-motion visuals and a more subdued (but still dark) tone than some of the cheesier games here: play The Dark Eye (1995)
if you want another one of the best entries in the adventure game genre, featuring highly creative levels and a narrative that’s a lot more genuine and cohesive than the premise might make you think: play Sanitarium
if you want a unique shock-horror comedy adventure game with a highly engaging first half if it falls apart during the last third: play Harvester
if you want an action adventure game that had a lot of interesting ambition put into it, but ended up a technical mess and overshadowed by resident evil 1: play Zombieville (1997, EU) (game can be finished but is unstable and can failstate, its TCRF page discusses these issues)
if you want a cornerstone early point and click horror game with fun music, fun visuals, and cheesy FMV: play The 7th Guest
if you want the worst aspects of The 7th Guest but dialed up to 11: play The 11th Hour
if you want a Shivers game that is pretty much Shivers in name only, but does keep the improvements 1 made to the Myst-like genre: play Shivers 2 (please play 1 as well)
if you want another landmark entry in point and click horror with a lot of gratuitous shock horror/gore and cheesy FMV acting, but with a higher degree of intensity and taking itself seriously than Harvester: play Phantasmagoria
if you want a Phantasmagoria game that even Phantasmagoria fans are mixed-to-negative on: play Phantasmagoria 2, i guess
if you want a CD-ROM horror-themed boardgame with sick bongo music and a disembodied voice frequently heckling you: play Atmosfear: The Third Dimension…?
if you want an action-adventure game with deliberate platforming, punishing combat, weapon unlocks that are so busted it’s fun, fantastic level design+music, and one of the only works to successfully pull off “what if alice was dark”: play American McGee’s Alice (try to get the original release if you can, not the post-madness returns 2011 version, but it’s not a dealbreaker)
if you want american mcgee’s alice with overall worse combat and more filler, but with highly improved, responsive platforming and the addition of a rewarding collectible system, with a cathartic narrative: play Alice Madness Returns
if you want one of the best survival games i’ve ever played with one of the best narratives in a VN-influenced format i’ve ever read: play Pathologic Classic HD (it’s fine to use a walkthrough)
if you want more pathologic and you’re fine with playing a game that’s probably never going to be finished: play Pathologic 2
if you want a short, honest-to-goodness 2009 art game/walking simulator with minor collectible elements, multiple endings, and beautiful music and visuals: play The Path
if you want a good h.r. giger horror adventure game: play Dark Seed
if you want (this will explain everything) a Dark Seed game that even Dark Seed fans are mixed-negative on: play Dark Seed 2
if you want a cornerstone graphic adventure game that is a functional evolution of Mystery House, with a murder mystery and a shocking amount of detail and different things that can happen and good replay value: play The Colonel’s Bequest

I've doodled these creatures a month ago and never bother posting it publicly back then until now.DragonVale is what reared my shy head out of the bunker. Back in 2015, I was pulled into it while I was playing Birzzle Fever (Any remmeber?) and found an ad with the glorious, unique dragons from the game.
As soon as I download it, I got addicted. Hatch, Breed, expanding my entire dragon park. It was amazing. I was pretty stoked during the middle of first event and I joined the (now-quiet) wiki community. Until Halloween 2018, which I got burned out with Evolutions and Ghostlies. In February 2021, after getting real bored of college and stuff, I felt nostalgic and decided to return to DragonVale and golly, did everything had changed since I've quit.
As a result, I missed so many amazing dragons I wished that came out before like Void, Ocular, and Wendigo... But on the downside...
Events which used to come on occasions while Backflip (the company that got shut down by Hasbro in 2019!) was around have became way more frequent! And in these never-ending events, limited dragons spawned every week after one week of each event. And to make matter worse, most of these have ridiculous locked combos that really required you to get lucky to breed dragons that are already have a terrible chance to breed or binge on Mystery Eggs and pray you don't get garbage. Example, You need Snowball to breed Zumi which is easy enough considering the number of elements its combo has but Snowball itself is very extremely difficult and it's been hindering players who wanted to get a fire-breathing Dragonarium who aren't lucky enough to be a long time player or waste time on Plant Grinding.
This message from the DragonVale Discord sums it up a lot:
"Early Dv: Dragons are huge! Even as babies! You’ll breed them! Their combos are these easy to obtain dragons you probably already have! :3
Modern Dv: You want a dragon? HAHAHAH! You’ll need 17 dragons before it just to breed it, and some of them you can’t even get right now! Even if you have the right dragons the odds of you breeding it is you winning the lottery!"
This comment sums up about what DragonVale is now. Remember stuff like when you need only elements or a permanent dragon to breed it? Well, you are barely getting that now...
Sweet Dreams went way underwhelming with lackluster dragons needing nearly impossible combos that don't even fit well! The limiteds has only one dream element in the first place! And most of them has underwhelming trait placements! That was back when three of the dragon doesn't have a dream element... but when it finally got added, they now contribute all elements! When the reps ask them to revert them back to what they used to contribute, DECA replied "That's the game's spaghetti code overreacting when adding the Dream element and changing the combos." But Delirium and Elysium works fine despite needing Dream. Not buying that, DECA. You did this on purpose. Don't deny. You decided to make evos in stupid combos after all. Karroot for Huddle. Jadice for Glitz. Both which can be easily replaced with just elements or a permanent dragon. Maybe even pick the limited dragons with more simpler elements! Not cool. Yes, it'll be less fun to do that, but where is the fun if you failed to breed the dragon after a whole week. What did they do? Just pick a random dragon selling in the event market?
Hyperion is amazing, but it comes with a cost. Fury and Narcis? Seriously? And the 70 hour timers is wow. Unless you have Gaia or the rift to spare.
(Un)Luck of the Vale isn't any better. Wolper is needed for the first one and Flipping Cotton isn't available which Bilby needs. Fae is even worse. A pseudo combo that's available for one week?! DECA just sure do love their pseudo Dreams...
Dragon Draw, the "new, exciting" feature after nothing for two years of endless events is super unreliable. DECA decides to kill off BEB and spin the fortune wheel on which dragons to include for "Dragons Week", the "replacement" for BEB. There's no rift expansion and probably never be. I would even take 5 more rift islands. DECA have plans, but it seems they won't bother...
And the Vale never ends. Some of the dragons are carbon copies of each other with Sounds, elements, earning rates or even Holiday themes (Looking at you, Mesmer and Dargon... These two should not exist. Pronto.). The app horribly lags in my iPhone. Too much content will be added and my iPhone won't be able to go for even 5 minutes before kicking me out. Too many evil ads like the ones stretching the screen or having no close button being more persistent to stuck up like head of a hydra and DECA never bothering removing them. The eventual permanent status of Triple Rainbow, this will worsen these horrid Rainbow fails. At this point, the rarest type of all dragons are essentially Motleys.
I couldn't find a good reason to continue playing other than looking forward to new silly dragons. I believe this was also eating my time I could spend on something else.
So, final goodbyes DragonVale. I'm just gonna stay away for good. Not in a "I'll just uninstall for a bit and then come back because I was addicted" moment. Thanks for the carnival of one year back in the Vale. But it's time to end this bondage for good.
I understand why older players like LilDragonHeart8 (Now Synthyx) has quit now.
Even with the poll regarding them, nothing changed at all. Yes, there's a tie for Valers who wanted more Events and people just wanting a one-week break between events, but still nothing changed. I also really miss DragonVale World and I think I would take it over regular DV. Who knows that DragonVale will eventually shut down in about four to five year due to overwhelming amounts of event and ridiculous combos with every single golden and permanent epic crammed in it?
Dragons pictured here: Darcowl without Spellforms, Fire-traited Whimsical burning (definitely caused be the trait), an unpolished Fire Dragon mistaking baby Fire-Traited Karroot as a Chili Pepper (That's my first thought while looking at at, lol), Crouching Ocular, Burning Zumi, the thrilling sequel to Burning Whimsical, an Unpolished Baby Rain.
Bonus: >:) https://www.deviantart.com/jacquirebriggs/art/Just-my-I-hate-April-Fools-doodie-for-2022-911683584

I can't talk too much about that because I don't want to spoil fun coming in season two, but insofar as it impacted what we've already done in season one. Yeah, it was important that they not have a hive mind because I think it's more interesting to do this and, again, turn Brad on subtle variations of the Chucky persona. Pairing: Kirishima x Fem!Reader
Rating: T
Warnings: Idiots who don’t realize they are in love, some language, a tiny bit of angst but it has a happy ending! I think that’s all
Word Count: 5.2k
A/N: So this is the first thing I've ever written and posted on here. It might be 5.2 words of crap but I put a lot of work into it. I just want to thank my amazing friends for hyping me up to finally post this and the never ending support. I love y’all so much! Y’all’s encouragement has meant so much to me!
At the start of this journey, you never would have guessed this is where the two of you would end up. Swaying slowly, in a large ballroom with the lights turned low, in the most expensive white dress you would ever own. Your arms wrap around the muscular neck of the love of your life, and everything feels complete. Marrying Eijirou Kirishima was a dream. Grinning, you look up at his glowing face as you finish your first dance as husband and wife. Being in his arms, you felt safe and secure as he wrapped them around your waist. In moments like this, it was hard to think of a time when you weren't the center of each other's lives.
Tumblr media
You met Kirishima the same day you began your hero journey at UA.
Scurrying down the massive hallways, you make it to your homeroom of 1-A. Many students already occupy the classroom and are engaged in conversations. Maneuvering around the groups of students, you find your assigned seat and begin to settle in. As you scan the room, your eyes land on a boy with spiky hair and vivid red eyes. His smile beams, and as you continue to glance at him, a small grin grows on your face. As if feeling the weight of your gaze on him, he turns towards you, and his eyes meet yours. Oh crap, he noticed me staring, you hastily turn your face down to your desk as you feel the warmth of embarrassment in your face.
You hear shuffling from a chair scraping across the floor, and then a cheerful voice exclaims, "Hi, I'm Eijirou Kirishima! Nice to meet you..." he pauses, waiting for you to introduce yourself. You move your gaze from your desk to his face, and that's when you see his smile. From far away, his smile was bright, but up close, it appeared to be blinding. Positivity radiates from him.
Swallowing down your previous embarrassment, you introduce yourself and tell him it's nice to meet him too. Without you realizing a small grin comes to your face.
Kirishima stands there, grinning at you as he dives into a conversation with you as if the two of you had known each other for years. Kirishima's heart seems to stop dead in its tracks as he watches the small grin you have blossom into a full smile. He wasn't sure if he believed in love at first sight, but something was happening as he continues to stare into your eyes. Fumbling, he continues to try and carry on a conversation, and he swears he feels his heart stop again when you laugh.
Tumblr media
You and Kirishima become fast friends after that initial meeting. His passion and upbeat personality are hard to overlook. He becomes a bright part of your daily life. You spend your day's training, studying, and eating lunch with him frequently. Something you didn't notice was Kirishima's lingering glances or how his smile would beam when he would make you laugh. Eventually, both of you became part of the Bakusquad, and even with a new friend group, you always seem to gravitate to each other.
Your first year at UA could be summed up like a whirlwind. From the USJ incident, the sports festival, and later the training camp. It was no surprise that tensions were high when you and your classmates moved into the dorms. Through all the ups and downs, you and Kirishima would find each other for support.
Sometime later, a few of your classmates were given the task of infiltrating a Yakuza hideout with the Pro Heros. Heart pounding, you wished Kirishima good luck on his mission without realizing how dangerous it would be. He cherished the tight hug you gave him before he had to leave. He pulled that memory to cope with the physical pain while being taken to the hospital. With that in his mind, he felt more at ease, knowing he would see you soon.
News had spread that the fight with the Yakuza group wasn't a pretty one, but you had no idea how Kirishima had faired. Anxiety pulsed through your body as you walked to the hospital where Kirishima was.
Making your way through the sterile hospital hallways, your heartbeat was racing as you approach his door. Knocking gently, a muffled "come in" came through the other side. Slowly, you open the door, and your eyes find Kirishima's red ones. Kirishima was sitting up in his hospital bed, with white bandages almost wholly covering him. The only things you could see were his eyes with dark bags below them, a few tufts of hair, and his mouth that was curving into a small grin when your eyes met.
Kirishima's heart begins to beat a little bit faster the moment his eyes meet yours. It felt like a lifetime since that hug before the mission. There was a moment during his fight with Rappa he wasn't sure if he ever would see you again. The feeling of joy at seeing your face overcame him. At that moment, the only thing that mattered to him was you and seeing your precious face light up. It was like he couldn't feel the physical pain from the fight anymore.
Your giggle brought him back to the moment. A longing goes through his chest as he watches you cover your mouth with your hand. You are trying to smother your giggles at his mummy-like state. "Hey! Come on, don't laugh!" Kirishima exclaims, his smirk spreads wider as more giggles continued to leak out of you.
"Sorry, you're right; it's not funny that you got hurt, but at least you have a Halloween costume idea," you respond playfully and send him a quick wink as your giggles finally died down. Moving towards the chair near his hospital bed, you pull out the small lunch you packed for him. "I'm glad you're okay, Eijirou," you mutter in a more somber voice, thinking about the horrible what-if scenarios that could have happened. You lift your hand to your eyes to rub any away any tears that threaten to fall. The last thing you want is to make this about you after what Kirishima had to experience.
Kirishima swallows, his eyes focusing on your face as you sink into the chair with a sad smile. His chest clenches as the smile continues to shrink. He clears his throat and tries to pick up the mood; it kills him to see you sad. "Yeah! I'm just fine! Now let me eat whatever smells so delicious in there," he declares in an upbeat tone as he maneuvers in his bed to scootch closer to you.
Your sad smile morphs into a happier one after hearing his encouragement, and you move your eyes to meet his. Kirishima never ceases to amaze you with his positive outlook. He's sitting there beaming and lively as ever, not letting his injuries get him down. Little did you know, despite the physical pain Kirishima felt, he was putting on a happy face for you. He would do anything to keep a smile on your face.
It dawns on you that both of his arms are in slings, and there is no way he can feed himself. Letting out a soft sigh and shaking your head, you pull out the chopsticks you brought. "Well, it looks like you can't move your arms like that," you gesture with your hands, "so I guess I will have to feed you” you say with a wink. You move to pick up a piece of chicken and begin to bring it towards his mouth.
Kirishima was thankful you couldn't see his entire face right then. He didn't want you to see the blush growing across his cheeks. "No, I-um. It's okay, I've-" he stammers to find something to say as thoughts fly through his mind. Should I stop her? I can feed myself, right? Fuck, she's so cute.
Kirishima's heart is pounding as his eyes dart between your face and the hand that continues to move to his mouth. This moment allows you to pop the chicken piece in his slightly gaping mouth. Kirishima sits there in bewilderment, still with his mouth agape. Gently placing your hand below his bandaged chin, you push upward to close it. "Now chew, Eijirou," you say with a soft grin as you pull your hand away. It takes him a moment before his brain begins to work again, and he chews and swallows the piece of food.
After that, Kirishima lets you serve him the rest of the meal. He wasn't sure if the blush left his face or his heart ever stopped racing. One thing he was sure of is that he wants this moment to never end. With the warmth of having you so close and smelling your familiar smell, he could swear this was paradise. That was the moment Kirishima knew he wanted something more profound than friendship with you. He knew he wanted to live a life where being this close to each other was normal and not just because he went on a terrible mission.
Tumblr media
Years go by, and your friendship with Kirishima is steady as you enter your third year at UA. Almost all your classmates watch as his feelings grow into something more profound while you remain oblivious. Almost everyone could see that Kirishima would take any chance to be closer to you.
They could see it in the way he would try to switch partners during training exercises. "Hey, Oijiro! Did you get paired with Y/N for training? My quirk would work better with hers for this exercise. Let's go ahead and switch."
In the way he would pull Bakugou over to the side and talk with him when Bakugou yells at you. "Bakubro, hey man, can you tone it down a bit? She didn't mean to insult your cooking."
On movie nights with the class, he would try to save the love seat that perfectly fit the two of you. "Denki! I know you and Y/N both hate horror movies, but she'll end up digging her nails into your skin during the worst parts. Let me save your arm, and I'll sit with her."
You didn't notice all the little things like your classmates did. Kirishima was your best friend. It didn't matter that he would want to train with you; he knew your quirk the best and vice versa. It wasn't a big deal when he would get on Bakugou for yelling at you; friends stick up for each other. You thought he was sweet when he would want to sit next to you during movie night.
The only thing Kirishima hadn't done yet was confess his feelings to you. The fear of destroying your friendship kept him from putting his feelings into words. So he would sit by and enjoy the feeling of you being close to him during training. Or bury his face into your hair whenever the two of you cuddle up together on the movie nights. He would put his feelings aside to relish in the smiles you would send his way when he would crack jokes. Because he would never want to lose these things if you didn't like him back.
And deep down, there was something there for you too. But you wouldn't say anything either. Because both of you would rather keep it safe than risk rejection from your best friend. It was easier this way.
"You're an idiot, Shittyhair. Fucking say something already," Bakugou complains to the red-haired male as they walk to class one cold morning.
"Hush, man, someone could hear!" Kirishima glances around to make sure none of your classmates are close enough to overhear the conversation. The last thing he needs is someone like Denki or Sero finding out and spilling it to you. "Besides, your talking nonsense. We are just friends." Kirishima laughs nervously and moves his hand to rub the back of his neck under his scarf. A small pang of sadness goes through his heart at saying it out loud.
"Yeah, whatever idiot," Bakugou responds with a shake of his head and chooses not to push it. While you and Kirishima are idiots ignoring mutual feelings, Bakugou is much more observant. He hopes Kirishima makes his move soon because he can see someone else trying to come into the picture.

Your final few months of high school is when things change for the two of you.
"I like you. Would you please go on a date with me?" Words flow smoothly from the man in front of you.
Sure, you had gotten closer to Todoroki after being in the same class with him for over three years. You worked with him on a couple of projects, trained together, and even studied together sometimes. But having him confess feelings was not something you were expecting.
Standing there, feelings of excitement and confusion radiate through you and leave you speechless. You want this moment, but with someone else. Kirishima's soft crimson eyes and spiky hair come to your mind, and a familiar ache begins in your heart. An ache that you have tried to battle away these last few years. But we're only friends. If he had wanted more, he would have said something by now. You are so caught up in your thoughts you almost forget that Todoroki is still waiting for your answer.
Letting out a breath you didn't realize you were holding, you push down those feelings. Lifting your eyes, you meet the blue and grey ones staring back at you, awaiting your answer. Even if you hold feelings for Kirishima, there was a possibility he didn't feel the same, and so you chose to give this a chance.
A small smile comes to your face as you respond. "Sure, Todoroki, I would love to go on a date with you."
Gossip spreads like wildfire among your class. It's not really a surprise considering some of the classmates you have. As the day progresses, almost everyone is aware that Shouto Todoroki asked you on a date. And eventually, Kirishima would find out too.
Walking through the kitchen in your dorms, he happens to overhear the end of a conversation between Mina and Ochacho. Mina was musing aloud about your upcoming date with Shouto without realizing he had walked in. "Oh, I wonder where Todoroki is going to take her! I bet it will be fancy, and the food will be amazing!" Mina gushes.
"Whoa! Todoroki confessed to someone? Who's the lucky person? I bet it's Yaoyorozu. They'd be pe- why are you looking at me like that?" Kirishima stops his animated monologue and gives Mina a confused expression. Mina's animated face falls to a more melancholy expression as she turns towards him.
"Oh Eijirou, um well, you see, Todoroki asked Y/N on a date." Mina's words stumble out carefully, knowing this news would hurt him. "She said yes." Mina finishes as she breaks eye contact with Kirishima. Kirishima's face falls as he continues to stare at Mina as his world crumbles around him. His chest was aching at the surreal probability that he had lost his chance with you.
How could he ever compete with Todoroki? He was one of the strongest in the class and could own up to his feelings. He feels tears begin to sting behind his eyes as his thoughts weigh heavily on him. Kirishima has never had to deal with this before. No one else had ever approached you with confessions. They all saw you with Kirishima and knew how he felt. But what could he do now? He couldn't confess now. That could ruin any happiness you might have with Todoroki, as well as your friendship with him. It would be selfish of him to try and ruin that for you, no matter how bad it hurt him. Turning away from Mina and Ochako, Kirishima swallows his feelings. He treks toward his room, ignoring Mina's desperate calling to him. Closing his door, he sinks down immediately and covers his face with his hands. The tears he held back in the hallway begin streaming down his face as he thinks about the woman he loved being with someone else.

Like most new relationships, things were awkward with Todoroki at first. His stoic personality is a stark contrast to Kirishima's bright and upbeat one. It's not like you were trying to compare the two, but Kirishima had been your focus for three years now. Accepting the date with Todoroki was something you did to try and have your own happiness. Expecting him to share your feeling was unrealistic. You had to move on from him.
Months pass, and your relationship with Todoroki grows. At the same time, your friendship with Kirishima seems to stretch further apart. The time you spend with Kirishima is replaced by the time you spend with Todoroki. He no longer always tried to be the one with you in training. He stopped making excuses to sit next to you on movie nights. It was Todoroki's job to take care of you now. While Kirishima's heart ached, he wanted you to be happy. It hurt to see you intertwine your fingers with Todoroki. His heart felt like it was shattering him to see you lean into Todoroki on hard days instead of him. It killed him when your beautiful laughter filled the halls at something Shouto had said and not him. Despite all this pain, Kirishima did not want to ruin your happiness, so he stays quiet.
Your final year at UA is coming to an end, and graduation is right around the corner. The absence of Kirishima leaves a hole in your heart. Things don't feel as bright as they once had. You miss spending time with him and being close. He was, or had been, your best friend before all of this.
Todoroki is a wonderful boyfriend. He's kind and goes out of his way to make sure you are happy, but he's also able to see that you aren't as comfortable as you had been. Trying hard, you still spend time investing in your relationship with Shouto. But deep down, your heart is longing for someone else.
"We should talk," Todoroki murmurs, sitting down with you on the floor against your bed in your dorm room. You know what that phrase means. "I know I'm not always the best with picking up certain things, but I can tell when something isn't right with you," he says as he turns towards you and slides his hand to intertwine his fingers with yours. The warmth that radiates from his left side seeps into your palm gently.
You try to blink back some tears threatening to fall as you rub your thumb gently back and forth over Todoroki's knuckles. The thought of making eye contact with him feels overwhelming. Facing the pain of a possible breakup and the pain of the person you really love not being in your life was too much to handle. "I'm sorry, Shouto, I want this to work, but…" your voice trails off as more tears begin to slide down your face.
"But I'm not him." Todoroki lifts his free hand to wipe away a few of the tears with his thumb. You relish a little in the cool sensation against your warm cheeks. "I didn't realize until after I confessed how much he cared for you. I finally noticed how he looks at you after we started dating." He pauses for a moment and looks down at your linked hands. "And how you look at him." He squeezes your hand softly a moment before silence overtakes the room.
"I'm sorry, Shouto." You let out a whisper and give his hand a gentle squeeze back
Todoroki lifts your chin gently with the hand that isn't holding yours and moves your gaze to his. Smiling, he says, "I think you should tell him. I like you a lot, but Kirishima has your heart. I think we both want you to be happy, and I know he will make you happier than I can." With that, he pulls you into an embrace and places a small kiss on the top of your head.
You feel your chest tighten as his lops gently leave your head, and he begins to pull away. You aren't sure if you should reach out to him or try to save this. Even though you know he's right, your heart still aches. No one said breakups were comfortable, even if it was best for both of you. Tears continue to drip down your cheeks as Todoroki quietly makes his way out your door and closes it with a little click. Pulling your knees up to your chest, you bury your face into your arms and let the silent tears fall.
As fate would have it, Kirishima is making his way down the hallway as Todoroki is leaving. "She needs you right now," Todoroki says as he continues to walk by Kirishima. Without any explanation, Kirishima knew it was you. He felt his palms begin to become clammy with sweat as a thousand scenarios flashed through his mind.
Kirishima stops walking and gives Todoroki's retreating figure a skeptical look. "What do you mean?" The words rushed out of his mouth as his pulse begins to pick up. You had Todoroki now; why would you need him? The thought flashes through his mind. Todoroki doesn't respond, just continuing to walk towards the elevators to go to his own floor. Kirishima begins to move again faster than he was before to your room. Standing outside the door, he doesn't bother knocking and barges into your room.
Seeing you curled up on the ground and the shine of shed tears on your cheeks causes Kirsihima's heart to lurch. Time feels like it is moving slowly as he stumbles over to you. He needs to hold you, had to let you know that everything would be okay.
As he sinks down to sit next to you, Kirishima envelops your shoulders in his muscular arms. Instantly, you lean into him like nothing had ever changed. Taking in a breath with a little shudder, you inhale his familiar cologne. It's a smell you never realized how much you'd miss. And his embrace is precisely what you needed right now. Kirishima buries his face to the top of your head and intensifies his hold on you. He gently rubs his fingertips up and down your arm in a way that he knows brings you comfort.
Hey, what happened?" Kirishima softly whispers into your hair. He isn't a confrontational man, but it took every bit of restraint in him not to go confront Todoroki and demand why he left you here in this state.
A little sniffle from you as you wipe away more tears brings him back to this moment. Todoroki didn't matter anymore, only you, only making sure that you were okay. "We broke up, Eijirou," you softly say with a little tremble of your bottom lip as more tears threaten to fall.
At those words, it was like he had been dunked in cold water. How could Todoroki be so stupid to let you go? And before he can even stop himself, he is saying things that he has held on to for so long, "He's an idiot. If I had you, I would never let you go." Panic courses through his veins as his thoughts begin to race. Crap! That's not what she needed to hear, and she doesn't like you like that idiot! Kirishima stiffens as he feels you reposition yourself so that you are looking at him directly. "Ah, sorry, that was uncalled for," Kirishima laughs nervously while redirecting his gaze to the ceiling, hoping that you don't catch the blush rising on his face.
"Eijirou, I actually want to talk to you about that," you sniffle again and take one of his large hands in your own. "Please look at me," you plead softly as Kirishima returns his gaze to meet yours. "I like you a lot Eijirou, and that's why Shouto and I didn't work out. You don't have to return my feelings, but-" you try to finish, but Kirishima cuts you off.
"I like you too! I've liked you for a long time!" The words rush from Kirishima's mouth; he moves quickly and clasps your smaller hands in his grip. This feels right. He feels right. "I know this might not be the best time, but I'm not letting my chance escape again. When you are ready, please go out with me."
Looking at Kirishima with his bright crimson eyes and a smile that shines like the sun, you can't stop the grin forming on your face. He's still able to bring a smile to your face even when feeling so down. This is everything you've ever wanted. "Yes, I'll go out with you, Eijirou," letting out a little giggle as his smile grows to the largest you think you've ever seen. The joy is beaming from his smile.

Graduation passes, and your relationship with Kirishima seems to integrate seamlessly into both of your lives. Your friendship morphs into becoming partners. There was a neverending slew of dates with Kirishima wanting to try everything with you. From dinner dates to going to the beach, each new adventure added another incredible memory of your relationship together. It was like the two of you were meant to be, and every memory solidified that.
A few years later, on a day in early December, Kirishima tells you he is taking you on a surprise date. He refuses to let you know where you are going or what the date would involve. The only thing he will tell you is to dress warm because the date involved you going outside.
As the two of you drive out of the city to a rural area, you can see Kisishima practically bursting at the seams. There are small signs you have picked up all these years together that you know means he's nervous. The leg he isn't using to drive is bouncing up and down, and he reaches out to grasp your hand and squeezes gently from time to time. You make a choice not to question him because you can see how hard he is trying to keep this a surprise, and it's cute; you don't want to ruin that for him.
He pulls the car up to a gated expanse of land and quickly inputs a code into a keypad. The gate slowly creaks open, and Kirishima continues to drive onto the property. Excitement and questions bubble up inside of you as you gaze out the window. You can't see much, though, because everything is pitch black, except for the vast amount of starts that are typically dulled by the city lights. He drives the car a little bit more down the path before he stops and puts it into park.
"Okay, we're here!" He exclaims while clamoring out of the vehicle to come to open your door for you.
Stepping out of the car, you grasp for Kirishima's forearm. Your hand meets his toned bicep, and you cuddle into his warm side. Both for the heat and balance because you can hardly see in the dark.
Fuck, she's so cute. Kirishima gets lost in his thoughts as he feels your body cuddle into his. Sometimes it feels surreal to him that he's able to call you his, that you are here with him, that you picked him. He watches you as you tilt your head up to look at all the stars. At that moment, it was like all his nervousness melted away; seeing your beautiful face gazing up at the sky made his heart stop.
"Babe, it's so gorgeous," you say in awe. Moving your gaze from the sky, you look over to Kirishima's face. The only thing you can make out in the dark is the small smile on his face.
"Come on sweet girl, walk with me." Kirishima extends his hand, and you reach out to place your hand in his. Both of you stumble along through darkness together for a few steps in silence. He gradually comes to a stop between two trees that are intertwined above you. "Stand right here," he speaks quietly while letting go of your hand as you quirk a confused brow at him. You couldn't see what he was doing, but you were able to hear him exhale a big breath and shuffle around.
As you wait for Kirishima to finish whatever he is doing, you glance to the sky again to see the stars scattered across the night sky. All of a sudden, the trees explode with tiny twinkle lights of various vibrant colors. Strands of lights wrap through the branches and down the tree's base. Your breath hitches as you stand in awe for the second time that evening.
Your mind drifts back to Kirishima as your heart fills with warmth. This is one of the reasons you love him so much. He knows how much you love the holiday lights this time of year, always dragging him through the city to see them all. Little gestures like this were what made him perfect.
Adjusting your gaze to the spot where Kirishima was, you see him down on one knee. It's a scene that's played over in your mind many times. But that doesn't stop the immediate shock that goes through you as tears begin to form.
Moving your gaze, you see him holding a small black bock that he begins to open. Your name escapes his lips before he begins, "I love you so much. You are my best friend and my everything. I've loved you since our first year at UA. From that moment you came to see me at the hospital. I want us to be together forever. I want to be able to call you my wife. Will you marry me?" Kirishima finishes with a shaky breath and smiles up at you. He hopes you can't hear the pounding of his heart as he waits for your answer.
Your heart flutters as you look at his smiling face. That smile is more brilliant than the stars and lights together, and just like the first time you met, you can't help but smile back. "Yes, Eijirou, yes, I will marry you!" A few tears escape from your eyes as he slips the engagement ring on your finger.
Kirishima stands and pulls you into a crushing embrace that lifts you off the ground. You could stay in his gentle but firm hold forever. As he sets you down, he brings his lips to yours. The familiarity of his slightly chapped lips lets you get lost in him. He's your everything, and this is all you could have ever asked for. You couldn't wait to spend the rest of your life with your best friend, the love of your life, Eijirou Kirishima.
Tumblr media
And all those moments bring you to the best night of your life so far—the day where you marry your best friend. Held safely in his strong arms, you wouldn't trade this for anything—your bright and shining Eijirou Kirishima.
Alright! If you have taken the time to read this, thank you!! This will probably be one of the softer things on my blog. So I'm not sure if I'll write something like this again. But again, thank you for taking the time to read!

Pairing: Hawks x Reader Warnings: N/A Genre: Fluff Word Count: 4.5k Synopsis: You're surprised when your best friend tells you she's dating pro hero Hawks. As you get to know him throughout his frequent visits to the tea shop you work at, your uncertain despisal of him may just turn into romance.
Tumblr media
When your best friend told you that she was dating the number two hero you laughed in her face. “It’s true!” she pleaded. Her eyes gleamed against the hanging lights in your kitchen. She looked as if she were a lovestruck middle schooler doodling hearts and writing her initials in the margins of her notepad. But you knew her like the back of your hand and you were well aware of her habit of compulsive lying.
You spent the following week teasing her relentlessly for making up such an outlandish lie. Yui Nakamura, your best friend in the world. She was an up-and-coming actress who claimed that she was slowly taking Japan by storm.
“I guess I just caught the number two hero’s heart from my last film,” she told you. It was all she could talk about for a solid week, leaving you rolling your eyes and sticking your tongue out in a fake gagging motion every time his name was brought up.
It wasn’t until she brought him into your place of work that you finally realized she was telling the truth. The small jingle bells tied to the doorknob of the shop rang as you were crouched behind the counter, sorting loose tea leaves into their respective jars.
“This is my favorite place to get an iced tea in this hot weather,” her sickeningly sweet voice cooed.
Your ears perked up. Grabbing one of the jars of tea leaves, you stood up with a big smile on your face, ready to greet your friend. That smile, however, didn’t last long. Instead it was replaced with a punch in your gut and a ringing in your ears as you saw the person standing in front of you holding hands with your best friend was the number two hero in Japan.
You should have known something was off when the few people sitting in the leather chairs and at the counter looking out into the street had gone silent. Everyone’s jaws were slack in amazement at the hero before their eyes. A few people whispered about how much more handsome he looked up close or how they didn’t realize how vibrant his wings actually were.
The only person who didn’t look shocked or happy that he was there was the number two hero himself.
“(Y/n)!” Yui exclaimed. “How’ve you been?”
“Um, good,” you managed to choke out. Your eyes never left the winged hero.
“I see you’ve noticed my boyfriend,” she giggled. Her happy-go-lucky smile never left her face. It seemed as though her biggest wish had come true. It’s no secret that she had been pining after the hero for years, playing back footage of his rescues and showing them to you over and over again. She would always cover her eyes when watching his fights because she “couldn’t bare to see his beautiful face get hurt” and you would have to tell her when the scary parts were over.
“Hawks,” you spat out.
His golden eyes dug daggers into you. “Yes?” His tone was uninterested and very clearly bored. It left a sour taste in your mouth.
“I, um, well I, ya know, I didn’t–”
Yui cut off your stumbling with a fluttering laugh, the kind of laugh they romanticize in a shoujo manga. “(Y/n)-chan didn’t believe me when I told her you were my boyfriend,” she said in a sing-song voice. “Now come on, Hawky, what do you want?”
Hawks visibly cringed at the nickname she had given him. Hawky, like the sport but spelled like the bird. Even you could admit that it was pretty bad.
“I think I’ll have the iced hibiscus tea,” she said. Her hands fumbled for her wallet.
“I’ll take a small sencha.” You never expected the winged hero to drink tea. It seemed so unlike him. He seemed much more of a coffee kind of person, needing the extra energy to fulfill his hectic life.
“All right, your total is 540¥,” you said. As you brewed their tea, you couldn’t help but keep an eye on Hawks and the little things about him. Sure he was attractive, but was that really enough to satisfy your friend? He didn’t seem very interested in her as she tugged on his sleeve like a little kid clinging to their parents.
As you called their names with their orders in hand, you were surprised when neither of them went to grab their drinks. Instead, Hawks sent two of his feathers to grab them out of your hands. They were so delicate yet so strong.
Yui smiled as the feather fluttered around her before presenting her drink in front of her.
“Let’s go,” Hawks said, still with a look of boredom plastered to his face, but maybe there was more to him than you thought.
Tumblr media
You got to know Hawks a little more during the next few months. It’s true that when you first met him he was not your cup of tea. He and Yui would come into the shop and as Yui chatted your ear off about all the sweet nothings he would tell her, Hawks always seemed to zone out or lose interest in the conversation relatively fast. From the outside it looked like he didn’t care about her and that made your blood boil. But there had to be more to it, right? You’re sure that Yui wouldn’t bother with someone who didn’t seem to care about her.
It was at the end of summer when Yui told you the exciting news. She was cast as a major role in a new film and would be flown to Yakushima Island for the shoot. As she told you the good news, her smile never faltered. It was as if all her dreams were coming true and the different pieces of her life were being put together like a puzzle.
“I’m really happy for you,” you said while pouring hot water over a tea bag with oolong in it. “I can’t wait to see the film when it’s released.”
“I can’t wait for you to see it too! It’s going to be rough being away from Hawky for so long but I think we’ll both manage.”
You turned around before she could see you rolling your eyes at the ludacris nickname. You’re not sure how it managed to stick throughout the months, and every time you hear the words pass her lips it triggers a shudder to run through you. “When do you leave?”
“Next week. You have no idea how excited I am, (Y/n).”
You were happy for her, you really were. Yet part of you felt like you were being left behind, stuck in the mud. While she had her handsome top pro hero of a boyfriend, you spent your nights alone and as she went off to chase her dreams of being one of the most famous actresses in Japan, you were still pouring hot water over tea leaves as you have been for the past two years. It didn’t seem fair, but you would never let her know that.
The next week went by quicker than you had hoped and Yui was off to the airport. She, of course, stopped by for one last cup of tea before she left.
Once she was gone the leaves began to change. Red, orange and yellow leaves fluttered through the air onto the ground and gusts of wind would push them across town, occasionally dropping them off in front of the tea shop’s door.
This time of year was always your favorite. The smell of cinnamon and spice floating through every tea, pastry and coffee shop always made you smile in delight. A new shipment of pumpkin tea had just arrived and you couldn’t resist ducking down to stick your nose in the box and smell the leaves through their packaging under the counter.
The homey smell ravished your senses. Your mind was instantly filled with wonderful fall memories. Jumping in piles of leaves as a kid, drinking hot tea by the window and watching the rain outside trickle down the gutter of your childhood home. Carving pumpkins and dressing up in inappropriate halloween costumes back in your college days. It all came back.
“Do I even want to know what you’re doing?”
The all too familiar voice of Hawks startled you, and as you leapt up out of shock, you hit your head on the counter top. “Ow,” you croaked. Reaching for the fridge next to one of the display cases of teas, you grabbed an ice pack from the freezer and placed it on your head. “Hi.”
“Hello to you too.” There was a cocky grin on his face, unlike what you’ve seen of him before.
“Yui’s out of town.” Why was he here? There was no reason for him to be if his girlfriend was gone. Since he started showing up with Yui, the shop had gotten much more traction. More people had shown up asking when the pro hero was coming next or which seat he sat in. You were sick of it all.
“I know. Doesn’t mean I can’t get a cup of my favorite tea from my favorite barista.” His cheeky smile grew and you beat yourself up for blushing at him compliment.
“What’ll it be then? A small sencha?” You grabbed one of the small to-go cups in preparation.
“Nah let’s switch it up a bit.” He eyed the list of teas up and down, ogling the glass containers with delicate tea bags placed inside. “What box were you sticking your nose in just now?”
You looked down at your feet in shame, cheeks heating up at the memory. You had hoped he would forget about what he just saw or at least wouldn’t mention it out of pity for you. “Pumpkin tea. It’s a new shipment that just came in.”
“Huh,” he pondered. “Is it good?”
Your head shot up. “Seriously? You’ve never had pumpkin tea before?”
“Nah the commission doesn’t really like it when I eat or drink things that aren’t in my diet.” He wove his hand through his blonde locks, pushing them back out of his face. “They’ve been a bit more chill about things since I started dating Nakamura, but I’m still on a pretty strict food regiment.”
The fact that he referred to your best friend by her last name almost made your heart ache. For how much she doted on him he barely seemed to care. “That sucks,” you said. “Do you want to try it?”
He chuckled a bit. “Yeah, let’s give it a whirl.”
You heated the water and poured it out in a hot stream over the tea bag. “Here you go. That’ll be 280¥.”
He slid the coins over to you and held the piping hot to-go cup up to his nose, breathing in the heat and letting it run through him. A soft smile overcame his features and he pressed the cup to his lips, letting the brew hit his tongue. His eyes shot open. “Wow. That’s incredible.”
You couldn’t help but laugh. “Isn’t it really good?”
“It is!” He smiled up at you and you couldn’t help but drink in every detail of it. It was a happy and relaxed smile, one that a child would give after tasting candy for the first time. His eyes grew brighter than the sun as the tea coated his taste buds and pulled him into euphoria.
“Um, excuse me?” a small voice croaked from behind Hawks.
He moved to the side, revealing a small young woman holding hands with a little boy. He was chewing on an action figure and as he pulled the head out of his mouth you could see the bright flames of Endeavor coated in a layer of thick saliva.
“Hey there,” Hawks said. “I’m sorry, do you need to order?”
“No no no!” The rosey cheeks of the young woman deepened as chills of embarrassment filled her. “My son here is a really big fan and, well, we were hoping we could get an autograph.”
You weren’t sure how something like this would play out. You’ve seen the stares and the hushed whispers people give when watching Hawks and Yui in the shop. They almost look too scared to approach him, yet this flustered woman came out of nowhere.
“Yeah of course!” Hawks’ cheeky smile widened. He squatted so he was eye level with the boy. “What’s your name, little guy?”
The kid slid behind his mother’s hip, unsure of what to do or say.
“I see you like Endeavor. You have good taste. He’s one of my favorite heroes too.”
You watched in awe, jaw slack as if you had been slapped in the face, as you watched Hawks laugh and ruffle the kid’s hair. He signed a notebook that the kid’s mother gave him and just as he was about to say goodbye, the kid shot his arms up in Hawks’ direction. You could feel yourself melt on the spot as he picked up the giggling boy, spinning him around. It was so unlike him to do that, but at the same time it was everything you had ever imagined in the stories that Yui would tell.
That was the first time that you realized you were beginning to fall for your best friend’s boyfriend, and after that nothing would be the same.
Tumblr media
Hawks came in and out of the shop more and more frequently, only now ordering a small pumpkin tea. As the days went by, the weather grew colder. Chilly winds howled past the store and jingled the chimes out front.
Hawks sauntered in, giving you the grin and nod he was now accustomed to.
“Small pumpkin?” you asked, gripping your scarf and holding it closer around your neck.
“You know it,” he winked.
You hated how every time he walked up to the counter your breath would hitch and your heart would skip a beat. The little wink he gave you definitely didn’t go unnoticed by you. You hid the flushed feeling by burying your face up to the tip of your nose in your scarf.
“So what’s been going on in tea land?” he asked. His fingers danced across the display of cup sizes and tea cakes to the side of the register. They stopped, resting on the side of the jar labeled “TIPS” in a fat black marker over bright colorful construction paper.
“Same old,” you replied. “How’s hero work?”
“Same old.” The two of you had grown comfortable with minimal conversation, almost finding it endearing that the two of you could communicate so much with so few words.
“And Yui?”
Hawks took a moment before answering. You looked up from the tea you were preparing but averted your eyes the second you realized he was staring at you. “I’m thinking of breaking up with her.”
You couldn’t pay attention to what he said next. All you could hear was the ringing in your ears at hearing his words. He was breaking up with her. The recent nights you had spent fantasizing what it would be like to be the one held in his arms at night seemed more in your grasp. The thought scared you a little.
“Hey, are you listening?”
“Huh?” He snapped you out of your thoughts. “Sorry, I think I zoned out a little.” You could feel your face heating up. “Why are you breaking up with her?”
“It’s been about four months,” he said, still toying with the rim of the tip jar.
It bothered you a little how he kept looking at it. Either put in a tip or leave it alone, you wanted to yell at him.
“Four months,” he repeated as if he needed to double check. “That’s when our contract is up, at least.”
You were confused. What was he talking about? “What do you mean?” The skepticism on your face made you look like a puppy being taunted with a bone.
“Heh, you’re cute when you’re confused,” he said. “Our relationship,” he trailed off in thought, trying to find the right words. “It was never real, I guess. Never has been.”
As Hawks spoke about the contract the two of them were under, that her agent and the people working at the commission made them sign, your jaw became more and more unhinged.
“Why did they force you to date in the first place?” The shrill of your voice was hard to tame.
“Her agent knows my people well,” he admitted, referring to the commission. “And they thought this would be good for her publicity. They were right since it got her the big movie she’s working on, but they told us if nothing happens after four months we can end it.”
“I see.” You were still trying to put the pieces together in your mind. “So you never really loved her.”
He couldn’t help but bark out a laugh. “I thought that was pretty obvious,” he admitted. “Look, I know she’s your best friend and all but she’s kinda hard to be around and to get along with at times.”
Deep down you knew he was right, but hearing it come from someone that you knew Yui loved and trusted made your blood boil. What made you feel even worse was the growing hope within you that if Hawks didn’t like someone like her, he could possibly fall for someone like you.
He looked down at his phone to check the time. “Shit, I have training with my intern in ten minutes.” As you slid his drink towards him he fished into his wallet to pay. Taking out an extra bill, he folded it up and put it in the tip jar. “Promise me that when I break things off with her you’ll be there to comfort her?”
The question took you off guard but you nodded anyway.
He smiled a deep and genuine smile that showed so much more emotion than could be understood by the human brain. “Thanks. She’ll need a good friend like you to keep her company.” And with that, he dashed out the door quicker than your eyes could follow.
Tumblr media
A week went by and you heard nothing. Hawks didn’t come into the shop to tell you how it went and Yui hadn’t texted you with any of her usual updates for how the movie was going. It wasn’t until you were locking up shop on a Friday night that you received a FaceTime request from Yui. You texted her, assuring her that once you got home you’d call her back. You knew that he did it and she needed to hear from you right now.
Snuggled into the plush fabric of the side-of-the-road sofa in the middle of your living room, you called her back. It only took one ring before she picked up. Her face was blotchy and red and the makeup she wore on set was streaking down her features.
“What happened?” you asked, fully aware of the situation.
She explained in detail everything that had happened, from the warm tea she was holding in her dressing room when he called her to break things off to the way his eyes shimmered with both sadness and relief as he told her what was on his mind.
You tried to reason with her as she blew her snotty nose into tissue after tissue. Phrases like “I’m sure he doesn’t hate you” and “You’re better than him anyway” often came up. Truth be told, you were only paying attention to her side of the story half the time. You slipped in and out, mind wandering over to where Hawks may be and how he must be doing.
“Maybe he had a reason for doing it,” you finally said once she had started to calm down.
“What?”
“Do you think he, I dunno, wasn’t happy?” You shrugged a bit. Your eyes traced the rhombus patterns on your carpet as they avoided Yui’s saddened expression. “Maybe he just wanted to be a free bird is all.”
You looked up from your carpet and came face to face with Yui’s eyes. Once doughy and glossed over with a thick layer of gelatinous tears, they now held a form of anger and hurt that you have never seen from her. “How could you say that?” she asked. “How could you even think of taking his side?”
“I’m not taking a side, I–”
“Yes you are!” Her face was turning red and as much as you wished to defend the man you had caught feelings for you also wanted to be there for Yui. “I don’t know how you could defend him right now, you guys aren’t even friends.”
Hearing her say that hit you deep in the chest. Of course she didn’t know how often Hawks had swung by the shop. Of course he wouldn’t tell her.
“You barely know him, (Y/n), so why are you defending him?”
Why were you defending him? Even with Yui out of the picture, there would still be a slim chance that Hawks actually felt the same way you did. He’s the number two hero, an icon in more ways than one. His fangirls pooled at his feet constantly. Why would you, just a simpleton working at a tea shop, have a chance with him?
“I can’t even talk to you right now.” She was looking down, refusing to make eye contact with you through the small screen.
“Yui, I–”
“No. Just,” she trailed off. “Call me when you know whose side you’re on.”
And with that she hung up and you were left alone. You felt terrible, like the worst friend in existence. You needed something to calm yourself down after the shitshow you had a feeling would be your last conversation with her for a long time.
Your shaky figure got up off the couch and went into the kitchen, putting up the water for a cup of tea. Your hands visibly calmed down once you gripped the hot mug with the pumpkin tea bag swirling inside.
“Hey baby bird.” As you walked into the living room, the person lounging on your sofa startled you. You let out a scream and the hot tea sloshed out of your mug and hit your chest, the thin material of your shirt and the knit sweater you dawned doing little to nothing to stop the burning sensation. “Ah shit.”
Hawks ran up to you and pressed the sleeve of his hero costume against your chest. “I’m sorry. Are you all right?”
The wince you gave him let him know his answer. “What are you doing here?” you managed to croak out once the heat subsided. “And how the hell do you know where I live?”
“Followed you home,” he said like it was nothing.
“So you stalked me.”
“I like to call it stealth training.” The grin on his face resembled a snarky cat and as pissed off and angry you were about him and Yui and everything, you couldn’t help letting out a laugh.
The aura between you two was both friendly and awkward. It seemed as though you both wanted to say something but didn’t know what. As Hawks kept rubbing his sleeve against your damp clothes, his eyes trailed over your face and tried reading into what you were thinking.
“I talked to Yui,” you finally let out. “She’s mad at me.”
“So I heard.” He stopped moving and rested his arm on your shoulder. “You deserve better friends.”
You looked away. “No. She does.”
He let out a laugh. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. You, (Y/n), are kind, compassionate, care about your customers and you actually take time to listen to others. And I know Nakamura would say the same thing.”
Somehow the use of your friends last name didn’t bother you as much as it used to. What did cause you to blush was the sound of Hawks saying your own name. The sound of it leaving his lips had an imprint on you like no other.
“And those,” he continued, “are some of the many reasons why I started to fall for you.”
You felt a sting in your cheeks as they grew hot from his words. He liked you? Did you hear that correctly? He fell for you? The same way you fell for him? The only thing you could think to do was let out a “huh?”
And Hawks let out a toe curling laugh. “I like you. Have liked you for a while now.”
You didn’t know what to say. You were so overwhelmed with emotion. All you could even think to do was stare at him with your mouth agape.
“Hello?” he waved his hand in your face. “Earth to (Y/n).”
You shook your head and the rest of your body, getting any jitters out. “Um, yeah.”
He barked out another laugh. “So, do you got something to say to me or are you gonna leave me hanging?”
You took a sharp inhale. “I think that I might also like you,” you said. “A bit.”
“Now was that so hard to say?” He took a step forward, raising a hand to cup your face. He wasn’t ready, however, when you stepped away, shielding yourself from him. “What’s wrong?”
“Yui is what’s wrong.”
It dawned on him how difficult and confused you must’ve been feeling, especially if you’ve liked him for as long as he’s had feelings for you. Yui Nakamura is your best friend so of course having feelings for her boyfriend, her ex boyfriend, would make you fall into a pit of despair.
“I’m sorry.” You turned away, walking back to your kitchen.
Even though you clearly wanted to be left alone, Hawks followed you and stayed in the door frame as you put up water for another cup of tea. “You remember when I caught you sniffing the heck out of that box of Pumpkin tea?”
You made a disgruntled noise of agony as you buried your head in your hands.
He chuckled. “That’s when I realized I had feelings for you. When did you know you had them for me?”
You sighed. “Look, Hawks. I really wish that things were different and that Yui wouldn’t be mad at me, but–”
“It’s a simple question, baby bird.” He reveled in the nickname.
Your eyes wandered over to the kettle and the soft heat that rose from the stove. “I think it was when I saw you give that kid and his mom and autograph and, I don’t know, you’re just...really good with kids is all.”
“Is that really all?” His cocky smirk struck you and you couldn’t help but hit him playfully.
“Shut up, asshole.” The kettle went off and you grabbed two mugs, placing pumpkin tea bags in each. “I like you, but I love Yui.”
“So I’m assuming that it would be inappropriate for me to kiss you right now?”
You handed him one of the now full mugs, your face lowered to hide your subtle embarrassment. “You are correct.” The two of you stood there in the middle of your cramped kitchen, neither darring to take a sip. “But,” you started. “We can maybe cuddle on the couch a bit and talk, if that’s something you want.”
His golden eyes brightened. “Yeah, baby bird. I’d like that.”

terrifyingly complicated
Levi and Hange come to a Halloween party, wearing a two-person costume. Everyone wonders what that can mean.
Working at a law firm was exhausting. It was also very stressing. And since he couldn’t get drunk in the middle of workday, Erwin had no choice, but to resort to another vice – smoking. Whenever the tension inside of him grew too intense to ignore (which happened rather frequently), Erwin took a pack of cigarettes and went outside. Feeling the smoke enter his lungs and then releasing it into the air, watching the white whiff dissolve into nothing calmed Erwin down better than anything.
During his smoke breaks, he was often accompanied by his co-workers. Mike joined him frequently. Moblit came a lot, too, especially when the stress of dealing with his troublesome superior Hange made him feel like tearing out his hair. As far as Erwin knew, Hange didn’t smoke. And even if she did, she never took breaks, too passionate about her work to let anything distract her. That is until Moblit, or sometimes Levi, didn’t make her rest. Moblit pleaded and bargained with her. Levi simple dragged her away from her desk.
Speaking of Levi, he was the one, who accompanied Erwin the most. He didn’t smoke that much, so Erwin suspected that Levi used the excuse of smoke breaks simply to get out of their noisy, bustling office.
This time, of course, he joined Erwin, as well.
"So, Levi," Erwin glanced at his friend. He lighted up a cigarette and passed the lighter to Levi. "Are you going to the office party this Friday?"
Erwin didn't actually expect an affirmative answer from Levi. If he could help it, Levi always stayed at home, preferring to keep his human interaction to a minimum. Recently, though, he started appearing at social gatherings more often. Erwin strongly suspected that a certain bespectacled co-worker of theirs was the reason for this sudden change.
Still, Halloween wasn't just another party, where everyone gets slightly drunk and bitches about their higher-ups. You have to wear a costume. And in all those years that Levi worked in their firm, he had never attended the Halloween party.
So what a surprise Erwin got, when Levi took a drag of his cigarette and then slowly nodded.
The cigarette almost slipped from between Erwin's fingers.
"You're coming?" he couldn't help, but ask again.
"Yes.”
"And... do you have a costume?"
"Frankenstein's monster," Levi replied nonchalantly.
Erwin openly stared at him. Was their conversation real? Or was it some kind of fever dream?
"F-frankenstein's monster?" he repeated, getting more and more worried about his sanity.
"Erwin, check your hearing," Levi grumbled. "Yes, I'll be a Frankenstein's monster, like from the novel, you know?"
Levi looked so calm, as though him not only attending a party, but also wearing a costume was a regular occurrence and not once in a lifetime event.
Erwin put a cigarette to his lips, inhaling deeply. Just one cigarette wasn't enough to get him through this bizarre conversation.
"So... if you're Frankenstein's monster...” Erwin said slowly, carefully. He still couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that Levi will be at the party. “Will there be a Frankenstein?"
"Of course, there will be Frankenstein. It’s obviously four-eyes," Levi huffed. "Who else could it be?"
Who else indeed. Erwin felt like an idiot. Truly, there was only one person in this world, who could force Levi to do something like this.
But the question was... Did it mean something?
"Oi," Mike appeared outside, joining them, before Erwin could ask that question. "What are you two talking about?"
"Nothing," Levi answered immediately .
Erwin shared a look with Mike. "Hange and Levi are going together to the Halloween party."
"Oh," Mike raised his eyebrows. "You finally decided to let people know?"
Levi stared at him. "What the fuck are you talking about? What do we need to let people know? That Hange has an annoying ability to pester people until they agree to do what she wants them to? It is hardly news for anyone."
Ah. That was it. Erwin shook his head, he shouldn't have expected anything else. Levi and Hange were the most oblivious people in existence. Everyone in the office knew about their feelings for each other. Everyone, except Levi and Hange. Erwin often wondered how two people can be so smart and so stupid at the same time. These two were obviously made for each other.
"So you two..." Mike trailed off, trying to find the best words. With Levi and Hange, one had to be as concrete as possible. "...Er, you did not confess to each other?"
"Confessed about what?" Levi scowled. "You both are so weird today," he turned around, throwing the cigarette butt into the nearest trashcan. "Whatever, I'm going inside. You shouldn't stay long as well. Your brains have obviously started to freeze."
Raising the collar of his coat higher, Levi hurriedly made his way back inside.
Mike and Erwin watched him go, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.
"I can't believe them," Mike muttered. "They're really doing a two-person costume, but they don't realize what people will think? Nanaba and I have never worn a couple costume, and we've been dating for four years!"
"It's an extremely difficult case," Erwin agreed with a sigh.
“You’re their boss, can’t you do something about it? Like order them to get their shit together and stop living in denial?” Mike asked almost desperately. “The stench of their pheromones is making me insane.”
Erwin looked up, lighting up another cigarette. “I don’t think anything can be done about it. We just have to wait and hope that they will realize it by themselves. Pushing them in that direction will only delay any possible development.”
“Jesus,” Mike shuddered. “These two are terrifyingly difficult.”

“Hey boss,” Nifa sat down at the edge of Hange’s desk with a cautious smile. Hange hated when someone interrupted her work. Unless that someone was Levi. Strangely, she didn’t seem to mind whenever he came up to her desk to engage in another round of meaningless bickering. Furthermore, Hange herself often took a break from her oh so precious work to go and find Levi, just so she could share some joke or pun with him. However, Nifa obviously was no Levi, so she had to resort to placating her superior with a cup of coffee.
If there was something Hange liked more than her work, it was coffee.
It seemed like Nifa’s plan was working out. Hange accepted the coffee, looking up at Nifa with a kind smile.
“Do you want something?” she murmured, taking a large gulp from the cup.
“Halloween is this Friday,” Nifa explained, tilting her head slightly. “What costume are you going to wear this year?”
Most of the people at their firm didn’t really bother with costumes. The majority just put on vampire teeth or painted their faces with fake blood and called it a day. Although this year, they had new interns, so maybe they would be able to spice things up a little. Personally, Nifa couldn’t wait to show off her Freddy Kruger costume.
And she was also dying to know what Hange was going to wear this year. She always went out of her way to come up with the most gorgeous and creative costumes. Last year she dressed up as a space pirate. And year before that she was a grim reaper. She even had a scythe! Nifa’s favorite, however, was that Halloween, when Hange wore a zombie costume. It was both disturbing and awesome – the look was completed by a part of brain, sticking out of Hange’s hair! She claimed that it was real, and Nifa, knowing her superior, wasn’t sure if she was joking or not.
“It’s nothing special this time,” Hange revealed. “A little boring even.”
“Oi, quit teasing,” Nifa chided. “Your costumes are never boring. So, what is it?”
“If you want to know so much,” Hange sighed, feigning indifference. However, a little twinkle in her eyes told Nifa that, despite her claims, Hange was excited about the costume. “I’m going as Frankenstein.”
“Frankenstein?” Nifa drew her eyebrows together. “Monster or a scientist?”
“Scientist.”
“Oh,” maybe, Hange was right after all. It did sound a little boring. “Why not a monster?”
“Levi is going to be my monster,” Hange confessed with a wide grin.
My monster?
Did that mean what Nifa thought it meant? She could ask Hange about it, of course, and she would probably answer, but still, asking her superior that kind of personal question felt a little too intrusive even for the great gossiper Nifa.
However, she could always take a less direct approach.
"I don't remember Levi ever attending the Halloween party," Nifa looked at Hange beneath her eyelashes. "It must have been hard to make him come this year."
"You bet it was," Hange agreed, pushing the glasses up on her head. "He had two conditions."
Nifa leaned closer. "What conditions?"
"Firstly, I have to learn how to brew tea the way he likes it."
That was.... so Levi, Nifa thought with an internal smile. Everyone in the office knew he was obsessed with tea. However, why did he need Hange to learn how to brew it? As far as Nifa knew, Levi didn't let anyone come near his precious tea stash. Was Hange an exception? If so, then why? Could it mean that they were much closer than just friends?
Still, it wasn't conclusive evidence. Nifa needed something more substantial.
"And secondly," Hange showed the exact number with her fingers. "Levi wants to wash my hair. He says it's dirty and sticky, and he hates the stench of my shampoo," Hange shrugged, while Nifa was too busy gaping at her. Levi wanted to wash her hair? Seemed a little too intimate even for the best friends.
"It isn't the worth deal," Hange continued, seemingly not seeing Nifa's bewilderment. "I mean Levi could have demanded to let him clean my apartment. He always complains that my sheets are too dirty."
How in the world Levi knew about the state of Hange’s sheets? There was only one possible explanation for this…
“So you and Levi are seeing each other?” Nifa finally asked. Screw the less direct approach. It clearly wasn’t working.
“Um, yes?” Hange frowned. “I do see Levi a lot. I mean we live in the same apartment complex and we often hang out after work, so…”
Nifa barely kept herself from groaning out loud. These two were impossible! She thought she was an expert in human interactions but these were terrifyingly complicated for her to figure out. They were either actually dating or they were the most oblivious people in existence. And Nifa suspected that the latter was, unfortunately, true.
"I... I have a lot of work," Nifa smiled apologetically and hopped off the table. The intricacies of relationship between Levi and Hange were causing her a headache.
“What did she mean by ‘seeing each other’?” Hange muttered to herself. “I know that Levi is short, but he’s not that small. Was that a hint that I should check my vision?” she wondered, putting her glasses back on her face and returning to her work.

"Why are you dressed like a snobby douche?" Connie asked Jean, as the latter approached him and Sasha. It was the evening of a Halloween party, and everyone gathered in the dimly lit and sparsely decorated with cobwebs and pumpkins main room, chatting among themselves.
"I'm Dracula, you idiot," Jean scoffed. "Besides, what are you even supposed to be?" he looked at Connie's face and body, covered in toilet paper. He plucked his lips in disgust. "Toilet monster?"
"Hey!" Connie cried out, while Sasha snickered in her palm. "I'm a mummy!"
Jean decided not to dignify it with a response.
"And you?” he turned to Sasha. “You are red riding hood, right?"
"Yes!" Sasha beamed. "Look! I even have a basket! Trick or treat, Jean!"
Sasha proudly showed him the aforementioned basket. It was full of sandwiches.
Jean sighed.
"Did you choose this costume just so you could sneak more food in here?"
"Maybe," Sasha shrugged, taking out one of the sandwiches and taking a bite. "Want some?"
"Um, no, thanks. Even if I wanted to," which he did not. Trying to separate Sasha and food was a dangerous affair. Jean had learned it firsthand. "I can't really eat with these things," he opened his mouth, showing them his fake fangs.
"Wow," Connie grinned. "There is even blood on them! Can I touch it?"
"No way!" Jean took a step back, putting his hands forward.
“Hey, look, look," Sasha tugged at Jean and Connie's arms. "Eren, Mikasa and Armin came."
"What the fuck." Jean stared at Eren, his hands clutching into fists. "That asshole, what the fuck is he wearing?"
"Oh, Jean, I think," Connie patted his shoulder. "Eren is Van Helsing."
"He is!" Sasha agreed, pointing at the wooden stake in Eren's hand.
"Motherfucker," Jean growled. "He knew I was going to dress as a vampire!"
"Calm down," Connie rolled his eyes. "And don't start another fight. At least wait until we're out of office."
"You can always beat him up in the parking lot!" Sasha giggled.
“Or, more probably, Mikasa will beat both of you up in the parking lot,” Connie mocked with a shit-eating grin. Sasha cheerfully high-fived him.
“Shut up, you idiots,” Jean gave them both a smack upside their heads. “I fucking hate that jerk," he muttered, glaring at Eren.
"His costume is nice, though," Connie noted.
"His mother probably helped to prepare it," Sasha nodded. "Armin looks adorable!" she added. "That Peter Pan costume suits him so much!"
"Looks like Mikasa isn't a fun of Halloween, though," Connie continued. "I mean what is she even supposed to be?"
"Maybe, a ghost?" Sasha offered, looking at Mikasa's white shirt and long skirt.
"If she wasn't constantly glued to Eren's side," Jean began bitterly. "I would have asked her to be my Morticia Addams."
"She would rock that look," Sasha said with a dreamy smile. "Although, you're nearly not as handsome as Gomez."
"Hey!" Jean protested. "I would have been great as Gomez. And you," he smirked. "You could have been Wednesday and Pugsley."
"Eugh," Sasha and Connie exclaimed in unison.
"Now I'm kinda glad that Mikasa rejected you," Sasha told him truthfully.
"Shut up,” Jean mumbled.
"By the way," Sasha opened another sandwich and started eating it. "Did any of you see Historia? I'm curious what is she wearing. Her costumes are always so cute!"
"She's dressed as Princess Leia," Connie replied. "She even has her own Han Solo."
"Let me guess," Jean said. "It's Ymir?"
"Of course, it's Ymir. Although, calling her Han Solo may be a stretch, she's just wearing her usual work clothes, but now she also put a vest on."
"Ah, I want to come and say hi!" Sasha announced with her mouth still full of sandwich. "Where have you seen them, Connie?"
Connie made a face. "Last time I saw them, Ymir was dragging Historia to a supply closet, so..."
"Oh."
"Yeah, I don't think they'll come out soon."
"Oi, look," Jean pointed at the entrance door. "That's Miss Hange."
"What is she supposed to be?" Connie scratched his neck, frowning in confusion. "Some kind of scientist?"
"No, she's Frankenstein," Jean replied.
"Now how did you guess that?" Connie asked, glaring up at Jean.
Jean didn't say anything, just showed Connie who was accompanying Hange.
"Oh." Connie breathed out.
"Oh!" Sasha exclaimed. "Who is that?”
Jean sighed.
“Sasha, pay attention please. Look at that guy’s height.”
“No way!” Sasha’s eyes widened. “It’s Mr. Ackerman?”
“I didn’t take him for a guy, who dresses up for a Halloween,” Connie mused.
“Neither did I,” Jean agreed.
“Hey, if they came together, does that mean they’re dating?” Sasha cocked her head to the side, observing the strange couple.
“Don’t know,” Jean shrugged. “I thought it was just some kind of a running joke.”
“Let’s go to them!” Sasha wrapped her arms around Jean and Connie’s shoulders, pushing them in the direction of Levi and Hange.
“Are you insane?” Jean hissed. “What are you even going to say to them?”
If Miss Hange was by herself, Jean wouldn’t have minded approaching her. She was nice, and really funny. Mr. Ackerman, on the other hand, was the complete opposite. Whenever their eyes met, Jean felt an acute desire to hide under the table. Levi’s cold gaze terrified him.
“We won’t be talking to them,” Sasha assured him, leading them through the crowd of people. “I just want to take a better look. Mr. Ackerman’s make-up is amazing!”
Well, it was hard to argue with that. Levi wore a torn shirt and large jacket. His face was painted green with a few black stitches added on the side of his forehead. Jean had to admit, his costume was actually impressive. And Miss Hange, who was dressed in a white lab coat, which was purposefully dirtied with red and pink specks that were probably meant to represent the blood and parts of brain, with her big round glasses, crazy hair and even crazier grin, was a perfect Frankenstein.
“Just be quiet,” Jean warned his friends, as they stopped a little distance away from Hange and Levi. “I don’t want to get in trouble with Mr. Ackerman.”
Connie and Sasha nodded and then the three of them turned their gazes at Frankenstein and her monster.
Hange and Levi stood in a corner, holding plastic cups in their hands. Hange was talking about something, energetically gesticulating. Her hands moved so wildly it looked like soon she’d spill the contents of her cup on the floor. Levi sighed and took the cup out of her hands. Hange smiled gratefully.
“Wait,” she stopped her rant and turned to face Levi. “Your make-up is smudged,” she reached out and moved her thumb across his cheekbone, gently wiping the paint.
“Of course, it’s smudged,” Levi grumbled with annoyed face. “It’s hot as fuck in here. Why there are so many people?”
“Because our firm is big?” Hange offered with a tiny grin.
Levi tsked. “Smartass. By the way, when was the last time you cleaned your glasses? I can see nothing but your fingerprints, four-eyes,” he plucked them off her face, scowling in disgust. Tugging at Hange’s coat, Levi used it to clean her glasses. Hange didn’t even try to protest, just watched Levi’s ministrations with an affectionate smile.
Jean, Connie and Sasha stared at them with wide eyes.
“They act so…” Connie began and then faltered.
“Domestic,” Jean finished for him. “Geez, they really are together.”
“I’ve never thought I’d say this about Mr. Ackerman,” Sasha admitted. “But they look adorable.”
“They do,” Connie agreed.
“C’mon,” Jean took Sasha and Connie by their sleeves. “Let’s leave them alone. I still need to settle a score with Eren.”

"Ymir, stop it," Historia hissed, trying to shake her girlfriend's hands off her waist. "People are watching."
"Let them watch," Ymir smirked, putting her chin on top of Historia's head. "They're just envious."
"You're insufferable," Historia huffed. She raised her head to press a kiss on Ymir's jaw. "Why do I even put up with you?"
"Because I'm hot? Because I'm hilarious? Because I'm excellent in bed?"
"Ymir!" A pretty blush appeared on Historia's cheeks. Ymir mentally patted herself on a head.
"Babe," she drew out, leaning to kiss behind Historia's earlobe. Ymir's hot breath made shivers run down her neck. "Let's ditch this party and go back to that closet. I'm so bored here."
"But look around!" Historia exclaimed, trying to ignore the growing desire inside her. "Everyone is dressed so nicely!"
"I don't really care, you know."
"You should," Historia muttered with a small pout. "Our friends came up with really original costumes!"
Ymir scoffed. "Kirschtein is dressed as Dracula. And Mikasa is the worst ghost I've ever seen. She could have put at least some effort."
"You're the one to talk," Historia rolled her eyes. "Putting on a black vest doesn't make you Han Solo."
"The costume itself doesn't matter, when I have the most important thing," Ymir lowered her voice to a seductive whisper. "My pretty Princess Leia."
"And our superiors picked cool outfits as well," Historia continued, ignoring Ymir. She wouldn't let her break her resolve so easily. They came to enjoy the party, not make out in supply closets. Even if the latter option started to look more and more appealing to Historia.
"Mr. Smith came as Indiana Jones!" she pointed at the tall blonde. "Doesn't he look handsome?"
"Yeah," Ymir replied unenthusiastically.
"And Mr. Zacharias! He's dressed as Thor!"
Ymir tilted her head, staring at Mike critically. He wore a cheap looking blonde wig and something that looked like more like red blanket than actual cape. "He's a mighty god of thunder, indeed," she deadpanned.
Historia ignored her once again.
"Miss Nanaba looks so pretty," she mused instead.
This time Ymir couldn't disagree. Nanaba was probably supposed to be Jack Skellington. And while the white make-up on her face was ridiculous, the suit fitted her perfectly, accentuating every curve of her thin but muscled body.
"What," Historia teased. "No sarcastic comment?"
Ymir shrugged. "You know how much I love women in suit."
"Asshole," Historia muttered, rolling her eyes.
“That's why you love me, babe."
Sometimes Ymir was so annoying, Historia thought as she stared at her cocky grin. It made her want to kiss her, just so she could wipe that smug expression off her face.
"I don't see Miss Hange by the way," Historia looked around in confusion. "I wanted to see her costume so much..."
Again, Ymir agreed with her girlfriend on that one. Hange was a lunatic, there was no denying that, and her excited energy was truly draining, but she was funny. Most of all, Ymir enjoyed watching Hange bicker with Levi, that permanently scowling midget. It was nice to see that shorty grit his teeth in annoyance, as Hange continuously teased him.
"Nifa told me that her costumes are always amazing," Historia hanged her head. "And Mr. Ackerman is absent as well..."
Well, that wasn't surprising in a slightest. Levi was definitely not the type to come to office parties.
"Forget about them. It's Halloween," Ymir kissed Historia’s cheek, trying to cheer her up. "I need my treat."
"You are really needy, are you aware of that?" Historia asked with a stern expression.
Ymir shrugged. Sure, she loved receiving attention from her super-hot girlfriend. If that made her needy, then so be it.
"That's a yes to a second round of make out session in the closet?"
Historia frowned, biting her lip. "What if this time someone catches us?"
"Who could catch us? I doubt that other interns will need that closet, unless Kirschtein and Yeager suddenly decide to let out their frustration with each other in a more productive manner than just screaming and waving their fists around. And everyone else here is clearly too boring and old to indulge in such activities."
"Fine," Historia finally surrendered. "But we won't stay there for long. I want to chat with some of our friends afterwards."
Ymir certainly didn't share the same sentiment, but, well, love is built on compromises, right?
She grabbed Historia by the hand, leading her to a closet with a wide grin on her face. Turning her around and holding her face between her palms, Ymir kissed her on the lips. With her back against the door, she pushed it open with her leg.
Historia froze.
"Babe?" worry reflected in Ymir's eyes, as she stared at her. Did she do something wrong?
Historia said nothing, just frantically pulled Ymir closer and then quietly closed the door. She didn't stop, and with her hands wrapped still around Ymir, Historia dragged her as far from the closet as possible.
"Hey, hey, what's up?" Ymir was barely able to keep up with Historia's hurried steps.
"There was someone in the closet," Historia whispered with a terrified expression.
"Someone?" Ymir frowned. "Who?"
"I don't know, I didn't get a good look, and the costumes really made it hard to recognize the faces," she pushed a stray lock behind her hair, her gaze darting around nervously.
"What were the costumes?" Ymir asked impatiently. Oh, she wanted to know who was making out in the closer so much! If she finds out, she'd tease that couple so hard!
"I... I think it was Frankenstein and his monster? I definitely saw a white coat and a green make-up.”
"Frankenstein and his monster?" Ymir snickered. "If I knew that the book portrayed that side of their relationship, I would have read it in high school."
"Ymir!" Historia scolded, smacking her forearm.
"Wait..." Ymir drew her eyebrows together, thinking. She scanned the crowd of her co-workers, checking her theory. "There are only two people who are absent from the party..."
"No way..." Historia breathed out, coming to the same conclusion. "Are you trying to say that it was Miss Hange and Mr. Ackerman?"
"Well, it looks that midget is getting his treat this Halloween. Good for him," Ymir said cheekily. "Let's go and tell these nerds about it."
"You want to tell everyone?" Historia looked at her worriedly. She looked so cute with her pursed lips and that little frown, Ymir's heart skipped a beat.
"Sure," she replied nonchalantly, trying to hide from Historia the fact that just a moment ago she was staring adoringly at her. "It's not like it'd be a secret to anyone. The way they constantly looked at each other, it was only a matter of time before they got their shit together."
"Alright, but let's not tell them how we found them in a supply closet."
"You're too kind," Ymir sighed, throwing a hand over Historia's shoulder. "But if you don't want to make them jealous, so be it."
Historia rolled her eyes, but couldn't resist the desire to press a swift kiss in the corner of Ymir's smirk. "Let's go already."
***
When almost half an hour later, Levi and Hange came back to the party, all eyes were on them. Hange's hair was in bigger state of disarray than usual and Levi's lips were red and swollen.
"I helped Levi fix the make-up," Hange explained, when they joined Erwin, Mike and Nanaba.
"Isn't a closet a little dark for that?" Erwin asked with a smirk. Beside him Nanaba and Mike could barely held in their laughter.
Levi's blush was visible even under the green paint. Hange nervously chuckled. None of them tried to deny it though.
Erwin, Mike and Nanaba counted it as a success.

Coast To Coast
part vii
Harvard University, 2014
There must have been a greater power taunting him.
“Sexy!” Anderson—forward, number 77, alternate captain—had said in the locker room. “That is this year’s Halloween theme, boys. Bring your girls, bring your booze, bring your minimal clothing, bring your A-game.”
Sexy. That was definitely just what Logan needed for his first OKN house halloween party. His new teammates. In minimal clothing.
He rolled onto his back on his dorm bed with a sigh, continuing to scroll through his phone while he waited for Finn to get out of their shared bathroom.
Finn O’Hara. Harzy, the boys called him. Right wing but didn’t always play that way, number 17, a sophomore. Originally from New York City. Logan’s new roommate.
“It’s how it works, rookie,” Anderson had said. “Baby OKs share. You’ll get your own room eventually.”
Logan was fine having a roommate. He had had one at prep school. He didn’t even care if they were messy, he was sure he was twice as bad. But Finn O’Hara. Red hair, six foot even, brown eyes—bambi, the boys called him. A little on the thinner side, but Logan could tell he could bulk up if he wanted to. Finn O’Hara.
There must have been some greater power taunting him.
“Fuck,” Finn’s voice came from within the bathroom. The door was open, but not enough for Logan to see anything. “My balls are going to hate me.”
Logan snorted. “We wear spandex every other day of the year.”
“Yeah, breathable sports spandex, not this plastic shit. Jesus fuck,” there was a groan. “At least I look alright.”
“Stop staring at yourself and let me get in there.”
“Okay, okay,” Finn said, and Logan watched the door move as he pushed it open.
The universe hated him.
Finn was some sort of gladiator, Logan thought, with nothing on but a red cape that clasped around his neck and shoulders, and a pair of tight, gold underwear that left nothing to Logan’s imagination. They had a fake, foam sword clipped at the hip. He had gold paint on beneath his eyes, streaked like a football player, and a gold laurel crown sitting in his red hair. His pale skin was creamy against the gold and the frame of the dark red cape. He had cheap looking sandals on that went all the way up his strong calves, biting into the muscle a little.
Finn spread his arms, turning in a slow circle. “Look at these fucking things. Who makes these and why?”
Logan swallowed, looking at the gold underwear. “For frat parties, I’m guessing.”
“Yeah,” Finn laughed and then bent over his bed to fold his discarded clothes up. His cape slipped away from his back and Logan sat up abruptly.
“Merde, Harzy, those things are barely holding onto you.”
“I told you, my dick is gonna hate me,” Finn said loudly.
Logan smiled and swiped his party city bag from his dresser. “Souhaite moi bonne chance.”
“Swat bon,” Finn rolled his eyes.
Logan laughed and slipped into the bathroom. He could hear Finn putting some music on as he undressed, singing along softly under his breath. Logan gave himself a moment to close his eyes and breathe, fingering his necklace. He’d known Finn for a little over two months. That was it. And already he liked him in the morning. He liked him drunk off his ass. He liked him on the rare lazy day, still under his covers reading a book and wearing his glasses. His glasses. Dark tortoise shell things that turned amber in the sunlight, like his eyes, and just—fuck. He liked Finn on the ice and like it when they were on the same line, something that was happening more and more frequently. He liked Finn, and Finn seemed to like him well enough, and Coach liked them together. The found each other on the ice every time. Logan had never had that before.
Logan rubbed his hands over his face and then reached into the plastic bag for his costume—if he could call it that. A black cape, clasped by the yellow and black Batman symbol, the iconic mask that covered his eyes, and what could only be called underwear. They were black and shiny, with the bat symbol on the ass.
“Merde,” Logan breathed once he squeezed his thighs into the shorts. It was—obscene. He wasn’t hung like some of the guys he’d seen but this certainly made it look like he was. His cock pressed against the fabric as insistently as his ass did. He turned around and looked at the yellow symbol there and was glad that the cape would be covering at least some of it.
“Ready?” Finn said when thumping music started up downstairs meaning people were starting to arrive.
Logan looked out the small bathroom window and towards the dark driveway. Cars were lining up. People were getting out in bikinis and corsets, speedos and stockings.
“Uh, yeah,” Logan said. “One second.”
He looked at himself in the mirror and laughed a little before spinning the bat mask once, and placing it over his head. His hair curled out from under it, and the black frame made his eyes look a little startling.
He looked—not bad. If he was looking to pick up tonight—which he hadn’t done yet at Harvard—he probably could. He turned and looked at his abs, defined from the rigorous pre-season training. He looked good. He pushed away the wish that Finn would notice.
“I’m ready,” Logan said and stepped into the weird plush boots that had come with the costume. He pushed his way out of the bathroom. “Sounds like people are here.”
Finn looked up from his phone, legs spread in a way that was doing Logan zero favors. “Yeah, I—”
Finn’s stare was one Logan had felt before. Spotting him in the weight room, checking each other during drills. Two months of that look that Logan refused to think about. But that was a hard thing, when he had nothing to do but look right into it.
Finn stood abruptly, taller, gold paint reflecting into his eyes and making them light like syrup.
“What’s your,” Finn swallowed. “Tattoo. Necklace. I’ve never asked.”
“Oh,” Logan looked down at his hip. “It’s a fleur-de-lis. Sort of a family thing. Me and my sisters have them in different places.”
“How many sisters do you have?”
“Three. They’re older than I am.”
“Fleur-de-lis,” Finn repeated softly, eyes on the tattoo. He swallowed again and then looked away. “Sick. Should we go?”
“Yeah,” Logan said. “Yeah, I need a drink if I gotta wear this thing all night.”
Finn laughed. “Uh-huh. Me, too.”
Logan lasted about an hour before he couldn’t stand his mask anymore. He left it on a table somewhere, pushing his sweaty hair off of his forehead and wishing for a hat. He’d have to settle for something cool to drink instead.
OKN house had the back door open into the chilly yard and porch. The living room had a drinks table set up, one of those plastic fold out ones that they used at rush and club fairs, beside the great oak dining table that no one actually used except, well, Finn. Finn who planned his essays at this table until it was way too late and he snuck up to the room, trying to be quiet for Logan. Logan, who stayed up just to see him go about his routine and fall into bed. Logan, pretending he was a part of that routine.
Logan might have had a Finn problem. A two-month long Finn problem. A Finn-in-glasses problem. A Finn-dressed-as-a-gladiator problem. A Finn-in-his-red-Harvard-jersey problem with his rough skating and sharp shots.
A Finn over in the corner problem, talking to a girl. Problem.
Logan turned to the drink table and desperately looked for the rum.
Logan was allowed to have a Finn problem. Logan just couldn’t have a Finn…anything else. Finn-wet-dreams, in which he woke up with a gasp, sweating against his sheets and only needing to shove his hand into his pajama pants where he was red and swollen in his own hand, barely touching himself before he was shooting into his fist, eyes resolutely away from the bed across from him. Finn-bringing-him-breakfast, not that he could make more than burnt toast, before he drove them to the rink. Finn-laughing-with-him, like a best friend that Logan had never actually had. There were teammates, and then there were friends.
Finn was a friend. Logan could have a Finn problem, a Finn secret, and a friend.
He just couldn’t have Finn.
The rum was no where to be seen. A shoulder bumped his.
“Hey, rookie,” Finn smiled. “What you looking for?”
Finn’s crown was lopsided, like some sort of halo in an old painting. Like someone had been messing with it. Logan looked for the girl, but she was gone.
“Rum,” Logan said.
Finn did a quick survey of the table and found the bottle easily, unstoppering it and reaching over to pour a healthy amount into Logan’s waiting cup.
“Coke, right?”
Logan nodded.
A Finn-knowing-his-drink-problem.
Finn made himself one, too, and held his cup out for a cheers with a smile. Logan smiled back, clicking their plastic cups together.
“Lost your mask somewhere, Batman. Now the whole world knows your secret.”
Logan laughed tightly and raised his cup to his mouth. “I can’t have that.”
Finn tilted his head, chewing a little on the rim of his cup before taking a drink. He cleared his throat. “You been to the roof yet?”
“Non,” Logan shook his head.
“Wanna? It’s a kinda cool view of campus.”
Logan tried to smile over the hammering in his blood. “That girl didn’t wanna join you?”
Finn rolled his eyes. “Come on.” He pushed off the table and was disappearing into the crowd quickly. Logan squeezed through bodies to follow.
~
“I found the picture,” Finn shouted. “Nut—fuck, is he still at the store?”
“Oui,” Logan said, filling up a glass of water from the sink. “Did you really find it? Let me see.”
Logan padded over to where Finn was sprawled on the couch and set his glass down before crouching near Finn’s head to see his phone.
“Oh God,” Logan laughed, ducking against Finn’s shoulder.
“Are you kidding? Lo, you look incredible. Fuck me, look at your legs. And you’re bigger now, like Jesus Christ… Ugh.”
Finn swiped his thumb lightly over where Logan’s tattoo was shown on his hip, just above the ridiculous yellow belt.
“This thing used to drive me crazy,” he said softly. “I mean, it still does, but…fuck.”
Finn used to have fantasies, while wishing for Logan, all of which had been very carefully kept faceless. Until this tattoo would make an appearance and ruin it all—and make him come immediately. It was ingrained in his subconscious as a Logan thing, one moment he would be touching himself in the shower, letting his mind wander quietly towards a hard chest against his, a large hand around his dick instead of his own. Faceless. He’d take the boy and press him against the wall of the shower maybe, do whatever he wanted him to do, kiss his neck, rut their cocks together, maybe he would moan Finn’s name—
Logan’s voice. The hip he had his fingers wrapped around was darkly inked, and tanned.
“Mon rouge,” Logan’s voice—really his voice—came through. Finn looked up at the touch of fingers through his hair. “Where did you go?”
Finn looked at Logan and took a slow breath. He was so familiar. He had been right there for so long, but it was only now that he was close.
“That was…” Finn swallowed. “Kind of a hard night.”
Logan’s brows drew together, and he nodded minutely after a moment. “We’ve had a few hard nights, non?”
Finn looked back at his phone, and then Logan was taking it out of his hand, clicking it off, and setting it on the coffee table. Finn sat up a little as Logan climbed into his lap, knees pressed to his hips. Finn ran his hands over his shoulders, then up beneath his sweatshirt to his broad back. He was bigger now. Stronger.
Logan pressed his fingers through Finn’s hair again and then a kiss to his jaw, one side, and then the other, his cheeks, and then his mouth.
“They lead us here,” Logan said softly. “The hard nights.”
Finn’s throat felt tight. He squeezed his eyes shut. “Fuck. I know. I know they did.”
“Let me show you it’s easier now,” Logan said. “D’accord? Harzy, let me.”
“Lo,” Finn rasped out. He ran his thumb over where he knew the tattoo was, had memorized it quickly, would kiss it endlessly.
“You work hard for everyone,” Logan said the words into another kiss. “You worked hard trying to make me not be afraid, even when I was horrible and terrified.” He kissed down Finn’s throat and Finn’s mouth dropped open. “Even when you were terrified, even when I hurt you. Let me. Finn…”
Finn let out a breath, eyes opening to the ceiling, then to Logan’s when he brought their mouths back together.
"Let me.”
“I took you to the roof,” Finn gasped as Logan pressed against him, warm and real. “I don’t know what I was expecting, I…fuck, we barely knew each other.”
“Do you have any idea how much I wanted you,” Logan said. “Lean up for a sec.”
Finn let Logan pull his t-shirt off of him, let him press wet kisses to his neck and shoulders. It felt good, but part of him itched to flip them, to make Logan feel good. Kiss down his chest, kiss that tattoo.
“Relax,” Logan laughed softly, easing Finn back against the cushions. “You have to let me love you. I need it, Finn. I need to.”
Finn’s cock began to fatten up at that. He let his head fall back. “Lo…”
Logan reached behind him to yank his sweatshirt off and—and there he was. Real.
Finn pressed his palms against his chest, his stomach, feeling the hard curves of his muscles. Logan pressed his hands over Finn’s, bringing them to touch his neck, his pecs. “Let me take care of you for once. Rest and let me.”
Logan leaned down for another, soft kiss and then was swinging off of the couch. His cock was a soft outline in his sweatpants. “Allez.”
Logan pulled Finn up and Finn couldn’t help but back him against the nearest wall, just for a moment, thumb back against the fleur-de-lis, lips harsh against his jaw, just the way he knew Logan liked.
Logan let out a laugh that cut off in a moan. “Non, non—”
Finn pulled back and Logan’s smile made him smile. Logan was flushed and his neck was red from Finn’s mouth. Finn sucked a bruise on top of the blush on the side of his throat, and Logan’s short nails pressed into Finn’s back. Finn reached down and cupped Logan’s cock within his sweatpants, feeling the heat of it through the fabric.
“Non, non, non, allez,” Logan was still half laughing, walking Finn backwards towards his bedroom. “Je prends soin de toi. I’m taking care of you.”
“But I like making you come,” Finn grinned, only just managing to give Logan’s ass a squeeze before Logan pushed him back onto the bed. He bounced a little, pushing himself against the pillows before tapping his thighs. “C’mere, baby.”
Logan shucked his sweatpants off, followed by his socks, and then it was just him, bare and standing there in front of Finn. Finn swore softly and reached down to palm himself.
“Non,” Logan shook his head and knelt on the bed, cock standing out and wet. The sight only made Finn give himself another squeeze. Logan was straddling his hips then, snatching his hands and moving them to his waist. Finn wrapped his arms all the way around Logan, bringing their bare chests together.
He kissed him hard. “Gonna take my pants off, too? Can’t do much like this.”
Logan scoffed and hit the side of Finn’s head lightly, making Finn laugh. But he obliged, coaxing Finn to lift his hips so he could pull his sweatpants away. He leant to kiss the newly exposed skin, mouth soft against Finn’s hips and stomach, hand wrapping around his cock. Finn let out a slow breath and tangled his fingers in Logan’s hair.
He wasn’t expecting it when Logan sucked the head of his cock into his mouth. Logan hadn’t done that yet. He made Finn sit up, abs tightening.
“Tremz,” he panted out a breath. “Oh fuck.”
Leo had been wanting and loving about going down on Finn. It had practically broken Finn’s brain, seeing him there, blue eyes open with his mouth full of his cock. They’d laughed and kissed sending those videos to Logan. It was unbearably hot, thinking of Logan, seeing them, wanting them.
This was entirely different. It was different with both of them. With everything.
Leo and Finn liked to read together, swapping favorite passages. Logan didn’t read much, but he liked to be read to. Finn had always known that, had done it a million times back at Harvard. But now he knew that Logan liked to lay on Finn’s chest while he read, aloud or to himself, and fall straight asleep. He’d always fallen asleep to Finn’s voice. But now he was a weight on top of Finn, breathing softly against his neck and Finn just…
Logan’s mouth was soft, too, tongue pressing against the head of his cock.
Finn loved him.
“Lo, Lo, Lo…” Finn panted. “Fuck, baby.”
Logan just hummed and sucked down further for a moment before popping off and smiling a sweet smile. “Did it with Leo.”
Finn huffed out a laugh, throbbing at the image. “I should be no fucking problem, then.”
Logan laughed, too. “I hope he comes home soon.”
“Me, too,” Finn said. He wanted him with them.
“I guess I know a way to pass the time until he comes back.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Yeah,” Logan smiled and rolled onto his back, producing lube from Finn didn’t know where. He spread his thighs. “Love it when Knutty does this, the fucking splits.”
Finn leaned forward, running his hands down Logan’s smooth skin. “Yeah. I didn’t even think about how goalies do that until him.”
Finn watched Logan’s face as he slipped two fingers into himself.
“Baby,” Finn said softly. “Let me.”
“Non, you watch.”
Finn sat up further, hand going to his cock—
“Don’t,” Logan panted, head against the bedspread as he worked himself. “Watch.”
Finn sighed and took Logan’s thighs back in his hands and kissed the inside of his knee. There was a little scar there from a night that happened a long time ago. Finn remembered.
Logan laughed breathlessly. “You can’t help yourself.”
“I love you so much.”
Logan’s breathing hitched, green eyes hazy. “Finn…”
Finn kissed it again, and then the other one, and then his thighs. He sucked kisses into the skin, bringing purple to the surface. Logan was marked by the time he sat up.
He was quiet as he pressed Finn back against the pillows. He wet his lips.
“Lo, what—”
“Why do you have your socks on, you weirdo,” Logan said as he swung a leg over Finn’s thighs. Finn’s cock nudged his entrance, and Logan gasped, cutting himself off.
He leaned down and captured Finn’s mouth in a needy kiss and reached behind himself to line Finn up. It was only then that Finn realized—Logan was going to—
Logan’s thighs were firm beneath Finn’s hands as he sunk down on him. Finn’s mouth dropped open at the feeling, of Logan in complete control. It wasn’t like fucking him at all, it was Logan, above him, head tilted back with the feeling of Finn filling him up.
“Finn,” Logan’s voice was more whine than anything else. “Finn, Finn, Finn—“
And he was seated, their hips together, Logan’s cock drooling between them.
“Holy shit,” Finn could barely breathe in. “Holy fucking shit, Lo.”
Logan got his knees under him and pushed himself up before sinking down again. Finn clutched Logan’s hips as all the breath seemed to punch out of Logan’s lungs. He did it again, and again, landing hard with each thrust, completely gone with fucking himself on Finn’s cock. Finn was mesmerized with the wide expanse of tan skin he had to kiss, Logan’s collarbones and shoulders, tongue running over his nipples as Logan’s thighs worked around him.
Logan shifted his hips and pitched forward into Finn’s chest with a curse, burrowing his face in Finn’s neck as he rolled his hips forward in small, sharp motions, hitting that spot inside him again and again.
“There you go, baby,” Finn said, wrapping his arms under Logan’s and around his broad shoulders. He pushed up in time with Logan, making Logan practically shout. “Be as loud as you want, there you go.”
“Finn,” Logan just kept saying, slipping a few times and saying Leo’s name instead. It made Finn all the hotter to think that Logan was imagining Leo there with them, sitting beside them on the bed, maybe working Logan’s cock into his mouth.
Logan’s breathing hitched up and he tightened his arms around Finn’s neck, fingers gripping his hair to pull Finn back for a sloppy kiss as he started to raise his hips again, skin slapping down against Finn’s. He worked until Finn was sure his thighs had to be burning, no matter how toned they were. Finn was going to lose his fucking mind.
“What,” a voice came from the doorway.
Finn looked up to the side to see Leo standing there, keys in his hand.
“Leo,” Logan gasped, and reached a hand out while rocking himself down on Finn’s dick.
Leo walked forward slowly towards the bed and took Logan’s hand like he was in a daze, staring at their naked bodies, slick with sweat by now. Logan yanked him forward and started undoing his belt.
“Hi, Peanut,” Finn panted, head falling back again as Logan rocked against him harder. “Store was—good?”
“I…” Leo was staring at where Logan was wrapping an arm around his waist now, leaning forward to press sloppy kisses over where Leo’s cock was quickly filling in his underwear.
“Knutty,” Logan said, before getting his fingers under the band of Leo’s boxers and pulling down so that Leo’s cock fell out. Leo laced his fingers into Logan’s hair, a laugh startling out of him.
“Logan, oh my god, I’m still holding my keys and wallet. I have my shoes on.”
“Allez.”
Leo just shook his head, raking his fingers through Logan’s sweaty hair. He dropped his things onto the night stand and then tugged his t-shirt off in one go, pushing off his shoes next. Logan let him undress, turning back to Finn and pressing his hands to Finn’s shoulders.
“Don’t touch him,” Leo said as he kicked his boxers aside. He fell down on the bed beside Finn and wrapped a large palm around himself, stroking his shaft. “Come on Finn’s cock, Tremz.”
“Non. Finn.”
Finn watched Logan and Leo share a look that he didn’t quite understand.
“I found the Batman picture,” Finn offered as a hopeful way to get into whatever silent communication Leo and Logan were having. “Sort of—” Finn hissed as Logan tightened around him. “Stirred up some memories if you couldn’t tell, fuck.”
Leo raised an eyebrow, shifting to sit on his heels. “Oh yeah?” He ran a hand down Logan’s back and Logan slowed until he was rocking gently, leaning a little into Leo. Leo looked at Finn. “How’d he look, Harzy?”
“He looked—” Finn began, and then cut off. The sudden well of emotion that had cut through him earlier seized around his heart again. He looked at Leo, all kind eyes, running his hand through Finn’s hair. And Logan, connected to Finn in every possible way right then. Finn opened and closed his mouth, swallowed over a dry throat, and looked at Logan. “He looked…”
~
The October air was a relief on Finn’s face when he pushed open the old window to the roof of OKN house. He turned back to look at Logan. They had thrown sweatpants and sweatshirts on, Finn had swiped a bottle of rum from the kitchen. The only real remnants of their outfits was Logan’s mussed hair and the gold on Finn’s cheeks.
Finn still felt like he was wearing a costume.
“This is semi-secret,” Finn said as he climbed out onto the tiles, vans catching on the rough material. “And by that I mean I really think no one likes it out here but me.”
He heard Logan laugh from behind him and smiled, pleased.
Fuck.
“You, the roof, and the dining room table,” Logan said.
The rum sloshed gently as Finn settled himself in the curve of the tiles, putting his hood up for some warmth and cushion. Logan did the same, and they settled shoulder to shoulder.
“Might have to steel your spot,” Logan said. “You can keep the table, though.”
“We already share a room and a starting line,” Finn handed him the bottle. “Wouldn’t be so bad.”
Logan’s smile was bright in the moonlight. “Well, good.”
They were quiet for a few moments, passing the rum back and forth to keep warm.
“Do you think you’re gonna make it? To play, I mean.” Logan asked him suddenly.
Finn knew Logan didn’t know just how loaded of a question he was asking. Was Finn going to make it? Hopefully. Was Finn going to survive it? If there was another teammate who became what Logan was quickly becoming, if Finn slipped up…
Hopefully.
He couldn’t read Logan. He couldn’t risk misreading Logan. He shouldn’t even try.
“Yeah,” Finn nodded. “I do, actually. I…you know, there’s all those statistics and shit but I also…feel it? If that doesn’t sound completely stupid? You?”
“I…” Logan hesitated. “I’m not sure.”
“Come on, have you seen you play?”
One corner of Logan’s mouth raised, but he looked different beneath the moon. He was looking intently at Finn, bottle clutched to his chest.
“I don’t know,” he said. “I feel…”
Finn waited for him to continue, but when Logan merely shrugged, he pressed on.
“Hey, I’d take you. Any day.”
It didn’t have the intended effect. The look that crossed Logan’s face looked almost—pained.
“I mean,” Finn tried to decide how to backtrack. “Maybe one day, eh? Anything could happen.”
Logan turned to look out over campus. He nodded mutely and took another drink. Finn felt concern draw around his heart.
“Lo, are you okay?”
Logan’s eyes snapped back to him. “Quoi?”
“What? Oh. Oh. Oh, no, I…” Finn laughed, a little awkwardly. “I didn’t really mean to…that’s been, like—it’s just been bouncing around my head for a while and I guess it slipped out.”
“That’s okay,” Logan said slowly. “I’m okay.”
“It’s okay if you aren’t. I mean… freshman year, Harvard hockey…it’s a lot of pressure. Believe me, I know.”
Another surprising thing. Logan closed his eyes and shook his head. “Non.”
Finn blinked. “What do you mean?”
Logan shook his head. “Nothing, I just…I’m probably a little drunk, I don’t even know.”
Finn let Logan hand the bottle of rum back to him, clutching it to his chest just to hold onto something. He didn’t know what to make of Logan’s no. No Finn didn’t know what it was like? That wasn’t true. If anything, Logan didn’t know what he was going through. Logan didn’t think about kissing Finn.
Logan stole the bottle back. “If you’re not gonna drink.”
He had a smile on his face again, one of his small secret ones. Finn, despite the uncertainty, smiled back. He couldn’t help it around Logan. Logan, who he now knew was the youngest with three sisters. Logan, who drank rum and coke. Logan, who hated doing his homework, but liked listening to Finn do his. Logan, who fought boys twice his size.
Before Finn could say anything, a rumble of thunder sounded off in the distance. It made them both look up and across campus.
“Halloween storm,” Finn said. “I guess that’s fitting.”
“My weather app said something about it,” Logan said after a moment.
Finn smiled. Logan, who checked a weather app.
Logan saw his smile and gave him a small shove. “Let’s go before it starts to rain and—and lightning and shit.”
“Don’t like storms?”
Logan was already pulling his hood more firmly on his head and maneuvering himself into a crouch. “Not really.”
“Well,” Finn started following him back to the window. “I don’t know about Canada, but we get some pretty crazy ones out here.”
Logan huffed, pushing the window up. “Well, super.”
Finn frowned. “Do you really not like—”
“Merde,” Logan hissed and stumbled the rest of the way through the frame. “Fuck.”
Finn pulled himself through a second later, eyes falling to the rip in Logan’s sweatpants by his knee, the red bleeding into the thick material.
“Shit, Tremz,” Finn said. “Is it bad?”
“It’s fine,” Logan said, looking at it carefully. “I’m fine.”
“Let me see, sit down.”
“I’m—”
“Let me see, speaking as your alternate captain now.”
Logan narrowed his eyes at him pulling that card, but sat on a ratty window seat. Finn grinned at him and crouched between his legs. He steadied himself on Logan’s knee, and then pushed Logan’s sweatpants up carefully, revealing his leg—a leg that Finn had been trying very hard not to stare at in skin-tight Batman underwear all evening. His skin was warm.
Finn would have liked a longer excuse to touch Logan, but the cut was small if not a little deep—thankfully not too bad. It was already beginning to stop bleeding.
“You should be good. Wasn’t anything rusty, just the wood edge. There’s some stuff in our bathroom from when I cut my cheek open last year.”
“Okay,” Logan said quietly. It was only then that Finn realized how still he was holding himself in Finn’s hands. It made Finn back up immediately, neck going hot. Who knew what Logan thought. Finn was so careful. So careful.
“Okay,” Finn said, then cleared his throat. “Okay, cool.” He looked around and then picked up the rum bottle from the floor. “Yeah.”
Logan pushed his sweatpants back into place and stood. “I’ll go check it out. Thanks, Harzy. See you in the room.”
“Yeah,” Finn managed faintly. He watched Logan send him a raw looking smile before jogging down the narrow staircase with a tight heart.
~
“Always taking care of me,” Logan was kissing his neck. “Remember the storm that night?”
Finn found Leo’s eyes before Leo was kissing his chest, teeth scraping over his nipple. Logan was grinding down on him in slow circles, making Finn choke out a moan. Their mouths on him ripped him right out of the memory.
Sometimes happiness made sadness’s edge sharper.
Finn blinked heat away from his eyes, but then Leo was there again, cock against his thigh, mouth brushing his own. Leo. Finn held one hand against Logan’s hip, the fleur-de-lis, and the other circled Leo’s back, fingers tangling in his hair to pull him in for a kiss. He loved kissing Leo.
“You deserve it, too, remember? Like we said.” Leo said.
Logan mouth was softer now, against his jaw. “Maybe it’s time we show you.”
Finn could only sit there and take it, the two of them, warming him through and through.
Leo leaned into Finn’s touch. “Like you told me.”
~
Finn woke up with Leo pressed along his front for the first time the morning before they left for Florida. It was to a six AM alarm, Finn was exhausted, but it was one of the best mornings. Finding out Logan was coming to Gryffindor. Waking up wrapped around Leo. Tied for best mornings. After a few kisses, they had to get up, even if it felt like they were a world away from anything normal. Finn actually smiled to himself in the shower the entire time. He was giddy as hell, and Leo was in the kitchen making coffee and eggs and he could kiss Leo while he did that now. He could kiss Leo while he was reading on the couch, he could kiss Leo goodnight and crawl into bed next to him. And and and.
Leo looked up when Finn entered the kitchen, hunched over his coffee cup with two steaming plates in front of him. “Hi.”
Finn just walked forward and turned Leo away from the counter and towards him. “Leo.”
Leo took a lock of his hair, the red darkened from the shower, and curled it around his finger. “You look a little too serious for my liking.”
“You’re okay with all of this, right?” Finn said, and then the words rushed out. “You’re okay with me, and with Logan—hopefully—and you feel good and not pressured, and I just want to make sure because, Leo, I’m not that much older than you but I am older than you. And I need you to know that I want this with everything I fucking have but not if you’re in any way not happy, or, like, nervous, or…I just want,” Finn felt Leo press his hand to his cheek. “I just want to make sure. And I’m gonna keep making sure.”
“Harz…” Leo’s smile was small, almost disbelieving. “I’m so happy. I’m so happy.”
“Well…good,” Finn let out a breathless laugh, relieved. “Because you deserve to be.” Finn pressed his hands to either side of Leo’s face and kissed him once, twice, and then Leo held him there with a hand on the back of his head, licking into his mouth and making Finn sway into the cradle of his thighs. “I really, really like you, Peanut.”
“I like you, too. Even though you’re going to make us late.”
Finn just smiled into their next kiss. “I’ll get the dishes, okay? You go take a shower.”
~
Logan was already under his covers by the time Finn came into the room. The halloween storm was getting sharper. It was raining now, lightning flashing against the sky. Logan had his headphones in, and his eyes were dark as they followed Finn around the room as he undressed. Finn could hear his music from all the way in the bathroom.
Finn found the Batman mask by the sink and laughed, heart pulling when he thought about Logan’s green eyes in it, staring a little self consciously out at him earlier that night. He brushed his teeth and then put it on.
Logan raised an eyebrow when Finn came out, but he laughed and pushed his headphones away from one ear, making his hair stick up.
“Forgot your secret identity,” Finn grinned.
“Too late now.”
Finn bit his lip as he crossed the room to his own bed, putting the mask down. Logan was certainly his secret. Logan had grown quickly into Finn’s mind, so fast that Finn hadn’t really realized it. One morning, he just woke up thinking about kissing Logan square on the mouth.
Logan took a shaky breath from the other side of the room and set his headphones on his nightstand with a glance outside. Lightning cracked across the sky, lighting up the room. Logan’s fists squeezed around his blanket.
Finn slumped down against his pillows with a sigh, taking the book he was reading from his bedside. He could hear people leaving downstairs, screaming and laughing in the wind and rain.
“I don’t like storms,” Logan said quietly. He wasn’t looking at Finn, and he was messing with his fingers agitatedly, covers pulled high on his chest. “I don’t really know why, I just…I don’t like them.”
“I don’t like seaweed,” Finn shrugged, but warmed when Logan actually laughed. “I don’t know, man, it’s just slimy. Thunder’s loud as fuck, I mean, it doesn’t not make sense to not like it.” He took a breath. “You want the light on? It won’t bother me at all.”
Logan looked at him for a long moment, before nodding. “Oui. Thanks, Harzy.”
~
“Harzy,” Logan said against his mouth, and Finn felt his back arch as Logan drew them closer together.
Finn couldn’t get any words out, though, not with Logan hot around him, with Leo sucking intently at his neck, rutting against his thigh. He let out a harsh breath and tightened his fingers in Leo’s hair. They were both hard and dripping onto his chest and stomach and Finn wanted to do something for them. He was aching inside Logan, breathless from his own memories.
“Please,” he said, and he wasn’t even sure what he was asking. He tried to sit up, to reach for them. He wanted to surround them, to pull them against him harder.
Leo shushed him gently, pulling him into a kiss and easing him back against the pillows.
“You were gonna go all the way and get me the stars,” Leo whispered, a light laugh following. “Fuck, Finn…”
“I just—” Finn flexed his hips up into Logan and Logan’s brows scrunched together, hands keeping him upright against Finn’s chest.
“I’m gonna come,” Logan panted, his hips fucking down on Finn. “Fuck, I can’t—”
Logan’s hips stilled and he gasped, cock still red and hard. He fucked once, twice, as if he couldn’t help it, but Finn groaned in protest as Logan gingerly pulled off. Finn watched his own cock bobbing an angry red against his stomach, shiny with come and lube. Logan collapsed into Finn’s side, sweaty and running his hand down Finn’s chest to his balls, cupping them gently.
“Always taking care of us,” Logan breathed. “Fuck, Harz, I love you, but you have to let us take care of you.”
They’d only fucked a handful of times—and Finn was looking forward to many, many more handfuls—but he guessed it was true.
“I like it,” He said. And that was true too. He loved it. His breathing hitched as Leo licked a stripe from Logan’s fingers to the tip of Finn’s cock. “Fuck, Leo.”
Leo just smiled, cheeks a deep red and swung a leg over Finn’s hips. Finn’s hand shot out to grip Leo’s thighs.
“Baby, did you even—”
Leo nodded. “You were a little preoccupied.”
“I could of done it.”
Logan laughed, pressing a kiss to Finn’s cheek. “That’s not the point of right now.”
Leo’s cock hung heavily, balls swollen and tip wet. Finn itched to touch him, but instead Leo cupped his cock against his abs, giving Finn a perfect view of him sinking down over Finn’s.
“We’re all here together,” Logan said softly, accent thick as Finn’s eyes closed at the feeling of Logan’s hand and Leo’s body. “We’re all here for each other, mon rouge. Let us.”
Leo’s head was tilted back, hips rocking in slow circles. Finn cursed, gripping Leo’s pale thighs, longer and leaner than Logan’s.
“Peanut,” Finn gasped. “Jesus, did you two practice this on each other, too?”
Leo’s smile was hazy and blissful. “Maybe.”
Finn groaned, head dropping back into the pillows. Finn loved the two of them together. His two.
Leo’s breathing turned heavy and then he pressed up and sunk down again, punching a sound out of himself. “Fuck.”
“There you go, pinotte,” Logan said from beside Finn. His palm was warm around Finn’s balls still, the sensation making Finn feel like he was about to be right on the edge. Leo was still holding his own cock, but not stroking it, just sinking down around Finn again and again. His blond hair darkened against his forehead.
“I’m close,” Finn said. “Jesus, fuck, I’m so close.”
The urgency had come out of nowhere, but he ached with it. Logan’s hand squeezed again around his balls, and then Leo was pulling off, too. Finn’s abs jumped and the loss. He fisted the sheets.
“Boys, this is not what I call appreciation,” Finn’s knees drew up on their own, trying to seek out any type of friction. His cock beaded precome across his stomach.
“Non?” Logan said, and then he was gone from against Finn’s side. Finn felt aflame, like he could feel every touch, and every absence.
Leo smoothed a hand down his stomach, through the mess, and then his mouth was back on Finn’s cock—and so was Logan’s.
“Huh—“ Finn wasn’t sure if he was breathing properly as his hands shot out to tangle in their hair, brunette and blonde. They lapped at him, mouths meeting occasionally around his wet, swollen tip. They’re—
“Fucking gorgeous, what the hell,” Finn managed, and he did sit up this time, legs splayed, pressing against their chests, palms rubbing over their spines. He had to close his eyes for a minute when Logan’s mouth found his balls and sucked at them, at the sensitive skin at his root, all while Leo’s mouth was sinking down, down. Finn felt it like a bruise, like a hurt that was so good it shattered, he shattered, looking at them.
Finn tried to keep his hips still as he came in Leo’s mouth with a low sound, bowed with his forehead pressed to Leo’s shoulder.
They kissed him, and then kissed each other, and then Logan was crawling across Finn and into Leo’s waiting arms. They smiled at each other, and Finn thought that was better than any of the sex. Leo’s hands were shaky as he pushed into Logan. Logan sunk down on Leo’s cock twice before he was shouting, come hot and white against Leo’s skin. Finn pressed himself all along Logan’s back and held him as Leo fucked into him a handful of times and came, too, face buried in Finn’s neck.
They were breathing hard, like a fine current surrounded the three of them, placing their breaths in sync. Finn was—
~
Leo closed the door to the balcony of Finn’s Florida hotel room and paced back to the bed, sitting beside him. Finn rubbed a hand up and down his back, thumb bumping along his spine.
“He’s hurting,” Leo said, eyes down. “He’s hurting, and he won’t let us tell him that we…”
“Lo’s always needed to do things in his own time. Always. We’ll get to him, we’ll talk to him.”
“I…” Leo cut off with a sigh and rubbed his hands over his face. Then he turned into Finn and Finn wrapped him up close.
“We’ll sort it out. Believe me, I’ve been waiting a long fucking time for this,” Finn pressed a kiss to Leo’s cheek. “For you, too, even if I didn’t know it.”
Leo smiled, even if his eyes were still a little sad.
“You’re right,” he said, and then paused. “Maybe we’ll just kidnap him at the buffet.”
Finn snorted. “Maybe.”
Leo took Finn’s hand in his lap and kissed it. “I think we’ll be together soon.”
~
It was too good. It was all his. Finn ran one hand over Logan’s abs slowly before pressing his palm over his pounding heart. With his other on Leo’s back, he could feel Leo’s heartbeat, too. They were louder to him than his own. Logan’s head was tilted back against his shoulder, his eyes closed, and Finn leant down and kissed his cheek.
“Knutty, c’mere,” he breathed. “C’mere.”
Leo’s cheeks were red like his mouth and he knelt his way over to Finn’s chest, leaning his chin up for a kiss. He pressed his hand to Finn’s cheek, swiping his thumb over his jaw.
“Stubble,” he mumbled with a smile, and dragged his lips over it happily.
Finn laughed softly. “I’ve been playing good, I gotta keep it.”
Logan looked up and all but smacked Finn in the face to feel. “Fucking loved that in college.”
“He had it the first day I met him,” Leo smiled, nuzzling against Finn’s slightly rough jaw and the dark red hair there.
~
“The fuck’s on your face, O’Hara,” was Logan’s greeting during preseason camp Finn’s senior year.
They’d seen each other a few weeks prior when Logan was still in the city staying with Finn’s family. He’d spent the last weeks of July with his own family, and how here they were, back at Harvard, sticky with sweat from ground training. Seeing Logan again after weeks, even just after a night’s sleep, was always a bit of a punch to the gut for Finn. He was tanned from the summer sun, sinfully so, and Finn wanted to—
“What?” Finn laughed, lifting his shirt up to wipe his face—including the week old beard he’d been experimenting with. “I don’t know about it, what do you think?”
He was thankful he was already sweating, because his face heated with the question. He needed to know what Logan thought, always.
Logan, green eyes were made light by his black snapback, walked forward. He took Finn’s chin between his fingers, turning his head this way and that before rubbing his palm over his cheek. Finn swallowed.
“Nice face,” Logan said.
~
Finn laughed. “You made fun of me.”
Leo snorted. “Well, neither of us could very well say fuck, what a hottie.”
“Nut, please go around calling Finn a hottie from now on,” Logan laughed, and then let out a breath. “Fuck, that was so hot.”
“I still haven’t seen the picture,” Leo said, and then, more quietly. “What activated our Finn plan, Tremz?”
Finn blinked. “Finn plan?” Logan looked up at Finn with a smile and Finn raised an eyebrow, tweaking his nipple and making him swear and laugh Finn’s favorite laugh. “What the hell is a Finn plan?”
“Just…” Logan looked over his face, and then to Leo, reaching out and petting a hand through Leo’s hair. “We wanted to show you that we want you just as much. That we want to take care of you as much as you always tell us you want to take care of us.”
Finn looked between them. “You…”
“We were talking about it,” Leo began.
“And making out,” Logan added.
“And making dinner one night,” Leo laughed. “And, I don’t know, we just sort of…when we felt the time was good, decided we’d make sure you knew.”
Logan nodded, hair tickling Finn’s throat. “You looked pretty sad there for a second, mon rouge, looking at that picture.”
“And when you were telling me about your rookie year, remember?” Leo said. “In Florida, after we got together?”
~
“I’m just saying,” Finn shrugged. They were laying down facing each other on Finn’s bed. Timmy was out with Kuny and Nado and, when that happened, he didn’t come back for a good while. Finn didn’t want to do anything too risky, but kissing Leo until he was soft and smiling seemed like a good plan. Logan wasn’t picking up his phone. He wasn’t in his and Leo’s room.
Kissing had soon turned into worrying.
“I’m just saying, I’m really glad you didn’t have to do the rookie season hotel shit. I’m so glad you’re with me. When I did it, it just,” Finn watched where his thumb was stroking over Leo’s knuckles. “I mean, Logan wasn’t really talking to me. I was trying to give him space, but I—missed him. Sorry,” Finn laughed a little, clearing his throat around the hot tears forming there.
“Don’t be,” Leo said. “Harzy, you love him. Of course you missed him.”
“I just waited for him to call forever,” Finn said in a rush. “And I’d wait forever again, you know, but I…I would just stare at my—phone,” Finn’s voice hitched. “And then I finally called him and it was horrible, I could barely talk.”
Leo’s eyes were sad and he pressed closer to Finn.
“I’m just happy you wanted to talk,” Finn whispered into the small space between them. “I’m so fucking glad we talked and now look, I can kiss you, Leo. Even though I’m crying,” Finn smiled a little, and Leo kissed him.
“You’re allowed to cry over him. Fuck, you think I haven’t cried over both of you?”
Finn laughed and rubbed his eyes. “Hope you don’t cry over me anymore.”
Leo grinned, swinging a leg over Finn’s hips. “I think they call you Heartthrob-O’Hara for a reason.”
~
“I remember,” Finn said softly. He couldn’t think about that phone call, though. Not yet. With time. “I didn’t know you remembered, Nut.”
Leo nodded. “I think we all remember.”
Logan let out a shaky breath against Finn’s chest and Finn rested his lips against the crown of Logan’s head. Maybe Logan couldn’t think about it either. Logan, who had tried to be so bright for him, even when he could tell Finn was crying.
Leo smiled. “Got a couple of star crossed lovers on my hands.”
Finn felt Logan’s laugh this time. “Care to join the party?”
“Yes, please.”
Finn groaned at the soft syllables in Leo’s voice, the drawn out ones in Logan’s. “You both get accent-y after sex."
“Tired,” Logan said.
“Fucked,” Leo sighed.
Logan laughed loudly, eyes squeezing shut, and he nudged Leo with his hand before wrapping his fingers around his arm and pulling him close for a kiss.
Finn didn’t think they were star crossed anymore. They had orbited around that somehow and ended up here, pulled by Leo’s gravity, into a tangle of light.
“In the middle,” Leo laughed, and bent briefly to press a lingering kiss to the dark ink on Logan’s hip before returning to his mouth. “Just how you like it.”
Finn smiled. Finn was just where he liked it, too. Feeling the weight of both of them in his arms, not moving, not going anywhere, their voices soft in a room the was safe and warm.
“What do you like, Nut?” Finn said. “Tell me.”
Leo bit his lip. “Looking at you two. I never even thought I’d have one person. And if I did, I thought they’d get tired of secrets. Scared away.” Leo let Finn pull him closer. “Secrets made you two stronger. And you’re not gonna leave me because you have to keep me a secret, either.” Leo’s gaze flickered. “I like looking at you two and knowing that.”
~
“Knutty, Knutty, Knutter, Nut, Nutter butter baby,” Finn sing-songed as he shuffled into the kitchen, voice sleepy and hair a mess. He felt awake after last night, his boys, on him, with him, working their way so deep into his bones and heart that he bled and bruised and breathed them. It felt good.
He rested his cheek against Leo’s back as he wrapped his arms around him from behind while eggs sizzled on the stove.
“Morning, Harz,” Leo said.
“Sup,” Finn sighed.
Leo snorted, then took a strip of bacon he had cooling from a plate. “Here.”
Finn made an appreciative sound and took it between his teeth.
“Do you wish we could cook?” Finn asked as he chewed.
Leo wavered his head back and forth. “No,” he decided. “I think you can do more than you think you can, but I like cooking for you. You guys clean up. It’s like being on a cooking show. All the fun, none of the work.”
Finn laughed, pressing a kiss to Leo’s shoulder through his t-shirt. “Cute.”
“Is he awake yet?”
“No,” Finn said, pulling three coffee mugs down from the cupboard. Logan, easily awoken, hard to wake up. “Somehow we managed to sneak out. Lightest sleeper ever. You know, I used to have to pee on roadies or when we were roommates—I mean I still pee, but you get the idea. And he would jump up like there was a fucking burglar.”
Leo dumped the eggs onto the waiting plates and flicked the hot pan off. He came up behind Finn this time, hands on his hips while the smell of brewing coffee rose in the air. Finn leaned back against his chest.
“I thought about doing this so many times while you made breakfast,” Finn said softly.
Leo glanced at his face, nose brushing his cheek. His eyes were closed, eyelashes turned shadows in the warm sunlight pooling on the floor. He was completely relaxed into Leo, and Leo held him there. This was what Leo liked. Finn, knowing that they weren’t going anywhere, no matter what he did.
“Me too,” Leo said, kissing Finn’s jaw. Finn smiled, and turned his head into the kiss.
“Leo,” Finn said.
“Yeah?”
“I think we should ask him.”
Leo only had the chance to smile and kiss Finn again, deeper, before there was a weight falling against both of them, Logan’s dark head of hair burrowing against Leo’s chest. Leo laughed and stumbled, just a little.
“You gain ten pounds when you’re sleepy, I swear.”
Logan just hummed. Leo and Finn looked at each other over his head, and then Finn sandwiched Logan in from the other side.
“Hey, Lo,” he whispered.
“Quoi,” Logan mumbled sleepily, his eyes closed and cheek against Leo’s t-shirt.
Finn smiled at Leo, and Leo ducked down.
“Will you move in with us?” Leo whispered.
Logan looked up so fast he butted Finn in the nose with the back of his head.
“Fuck me,” Finn startled back and Logan swore, turning in their arms and pressing his hands to Finn’s rough cheeks.
“Harz,” Logan began, and then Finn realized that both him and Leo were laughing too hard to speak.
“Ouch.”
Logan sagged against him, gasping for breath—
And then Finn realized he was half crying. And nodding. And nodding and nodding.
Finn abandoned his aching nose and looked at Leo, whose expression had softened. Logan’s breathing stuttered and he gasped out a laugh, wiping his face.
“Fuck, I just woke up.”
“Is that a yes?” Finn laughed. “Head butt me then burst into tears, I guess that’s a pretty regular morning for us all.”
Leo kissed Logan’s neck softly. “Say yes.”
“Get out of Dumo’s basement,” Finn said.
Logan punched him in the chest, making him groan, and the pulled him back in, leaning into Leo’s arms.
“Yes,” Logan said. “Yes.”
~
Over coffee, Finn held his phone out to Leo.
“Slutty Batman.”
Leo blinked at the photo. “Holy fuck.”

Fanfic recommendations part three: Season 7 fix-its
Some of these stories are post season 7 finale, some of them take place during season 7 and diverge from canon. Season 8 who? We don’t know her.
I’ve read and enjoyed all of these stories, they are all worth the read.
(By the way this is a big category, so this post is huge)
All Our Yesterdays by ChronicallyChill
After the events of "Street Fighting Man", Jackie and Hyde wish more than anything that things had happened differently. The next morning, they wake up in the past, on the morning of Vanstock where Jackie promptly makes one dream come true. They are not together—but, soon enough, one change snowballs into another... Time Travel AU.
I didn’t knew if I should’ve placed this story on the season 7 fix-it category or in the AU category, in the end I chose this one, if you think it’s incorrect, please let me know so I can change it.
Okay so this story deserves a special comment because OH MY GOD, it’s incredible. It’s amazing how the author writes the characters so well, and I simply love the addition of Buddy Morgan to the gang.
This story is a WIP, it hasn’t been updated in a while but I still have faith.

Daddy’s Home by bellamarie
Jackie and Hyde’s relationship has been smooth sailing for the most part since their last break-up in ‘79. As Hyde begins to seriously commit to Jackie, her dad is released from prison and he returns home to supposedly rekindle his relationship with her. Hyde, suspecting that Jack’s intentions aren’t pure, enlists the help of his friends to try and expose Jack for the still crook man that he is. While Hyde may be a paranoid burnout, he knows that the wily politician is up to no good. There is one thing, however, both men have a common interest in: Jackie Burkhart.
Okay so this story basically ignores the existence of season 8, that’s why it’s in this category.
Oh, and I’m pretty sure this is an abandoned story. Unfortunaly. It only has two chapters and damn, I’m dreaming about the day the author will update this, I’m already hooked.

This story is perfect. It literally has no defects. I love ALL of MIstyMountainHop’s stories, literally, all of them, but this one has a very special place in my heart. It’s complete and it’s definitely worth the read.

Reflections Through the Glass by MistyMountainHop
Okay, this story is quite a trip, and it’s amazing. It’s based on a minisseries called The 10th Kingdom.
Six months after Chicago, Hyde no longer believes in love — or in Jackie. Donna's not speaking to Eric. Kelso's confused about his whole life, and Fez has gone missing. The only way back may be to leave it all behind.
This story is complete, and there’s a sequel, called Beneath a Shattered Sky. Honestly, I love the first story, but the sequel... The sequel is probably one of the best stories I’ve ever read. Those are both very long stories, but they are worth it.

Season 8 redo by tanith75
This is the most famous story of the fandom for a reason.
The story starts after the s7ep21 episode, so there’s no Chicago problems or people going to Africa over here :) It’s amazingly written, it’s funny as hell, and it honestly feels like I’m watching an episode of the show when I’m reading it. It’s amazing, it’s what should’ve happened in the show.
This story is not complete, but please, don’t let this stop you from reading it.

This story ignores season 8 completely and season 7 is canon, that’s why it’s in this category.
Hyde finds himself homeless on a night where Jackie is without parents. The gift he gave her last Christmas draws him to her, but his attachment lingers past that rainy first night, grows through countless experiences, and leads him across state lines. Their relationship is a high-stakes gamble, but Jackie may fold before Hyde can show all his cards.
This story is complete and it melts my heart every single time I read it.

With Donna and Eric's own relationship kaput, after Eric left Donna at the altar, what does this mean for our favorite opposites-attract couple Steven and Jackie? Wedding bells, baptisms, betrayals, and ultimatums. It's just another year in the lives of those of Point Place.
This is mainly a season 7 hidden moments story until it diverges from canon, and it’s lovely. I wish it was complete, but it’s still worth the read.

I was having a lot of trouble categorizing this story, in the end, I decided that it was a season 7 fix-it of sorts, since season 8 doesn’t exist and season 7 ends in a satisfying way.
This story is a rewrite of some episodes, the author foreshadowed J/H relationship during seasons 3 and 4, and she added some pretty nice J/H moments in some chapters. The author also changed some things in some episodes (like the way J/H get back together after the nurse, and some other things). It’s a pretty good story, I like it a lot.
After "Jackie Bags Hyde," a certain subplot went into hibernation for a season and a half. What if it hadn't? And, if it hadn't, what other surprises would pop up along the way? "Tune in" to find out!

I’ll repeat this at the end of every single post: speaking as someone who writes, it would be really cool if you guys decide to leave a review (or a comment, if the story is on AO3) in the stories you read, especially the unfinished ones. It really motivates the authors, and receiving a compliment is always a mood lifter. I’ve seen some authors updating stories after years because of nice reviews, so… yeah, this is just an idea.
If you think I left out a good story, feel free to reply to this post!

201027 Sungyeol is Back Vlive with Sunggyu
He started the show with a military style greeting, and then continued with 'hello everyone, I'm Infinite's Sungyeol!'
He said that it was awkward for him to host the show alone, so he invited a special guest…Infinite's Sunggyu!
SG: *greets*
SY: whoaaa an idol an idol
He said that it was awkward when he was in the military, when he and his military fellows watched TV together and saw Sunggyu wishing the Infinite members who were in the military strength “I saw someone who I usually saw on a daily basis on TV! I didn't know what to feel. You knew how we feel and yet you said something like that jokingly”
SG: I really meant to give you strength though, not to tease you!
SG: How do you feel now
Sungyeol said he got discharged from military and society in general was awkward for him …he's still trying to get used to being a part of society (and not 'isolated' when he's in the military) He was doing whatever he was told and now after so long he can do whatever he wants
SG: Do you want me to order you around then? (afkljdsg;h)
Sungyeol said that he regretted that he didn’t follow Sunggyu when he enlisted. He thought that it would’ve been much better to go through the hardship with Sunggyu by his side
Sunggyu said he had recommended to all members to go enlist together but either Woohyun/Sungyeol said "Hyung, just go first~ we'll go later"
They argued a bit about the above and Sungyeol said, you want us to fight in front of the fans?
More bickering: They almost missed the vlive today coz Sungyeol was late to go to the hair salon, yeol is saying he ordered food and went to change and when he came back to the food he only found half of it…Sunggyu ate it and didn’t wait for him jaslkf;gs
Q: What is something you wanted to tell fans as soon as you get discharged?
SY: The fact that I cried..I found a side of me that I didn’t even know existed
Sungyeol said that he earned 7 minutes of phonecall after going through training for a month, and he called Sunggyu, his mom, CEO but no one picked up because it was an unknown number. He cried as he missed everyone so much. "I didn’t know that I was that much of a crybaby until then”
Sunggyu cried once, Woohyun cried a lot after enlisting too :(
Sunggyu’s finishing up the last performances of Kinky Boots and prepping for online concert.
They asked when is Halloween is then Sungyeol said Daeyeol asked him if it's ok for him to cosplay as Sungyeol for Halloween. Gyuyeol then said then Sungyeol can cosplay as Daeyeol for halloween, and sungyeol/'daeyeol' can 'join' golden child lmao
Q: 10 years ago after military you said you wanted to try trot, do you still have that thought now?
Sungyeol said he had that thought but the ceo turned it down. Sunggyu added that the ceo had his best interest in mind as trot may not be the best for his image. Sungyeol said he was ahead of his time because trot is the trend nowadays. Sunggyu agreed.
SY: if there's a chance I still wanna try (…….let him do what he wants please you haven’t learned your lesson yet ljy its been 10 yrs….)
Q: when did you miss your family the most?
SY: the moment I went in I missed everyone. not just my family.
SG: when did you miss/think of Sunggyu the most?
SY: The first day I was in the military!
He said pretty much every time Sunggyu did something, he thought 'did Sunggyu-hyung do this? did Sunggyu-hyung do that?'
Q: when in the military, when did you feel 'ah I’m part of Infinite'?
SY: basically said as soon as I entered. During the basic military training ceremony they even played Infinite songs, and everyone who saw me would do the naekkohaja gesture
Q: It would be good if you could do a solo fanmeet/album, when will that be?
SY: I would like that too, but I just finished military service (Sunggyu shot him saying that he could have started planning for this when he's still enlisted lmao and that he can do an online concert now)
Before enlisting Sungyeol said he'll try to be active on social media more frequently/longer, but he said he doesn’t know how to do it for a long time? Someone suggested in the comments to learn from Woohyun (yes please)
Sungyeol and Sungjong (or Woohyun? Not sure there are different translations for this part) lived in the same building. Sungyeol said Sungjong is so talkative these days, and he’s bored. He talked about how Sungjong suddenly came over to his place with coffee for him, ever since that day he's been going over to Sungyeol's place for meals almost everyday
Now that Sungyeol is discharged he was visiting his family and settling his own stuff. One day Sungjong asked him what he's doing, and that day Sungyeol happened to plan to visit his grandparents and sungjong went “OH REALLY? I WANNA GO TOO!”
Sungyeol thought, ok there's a familiar visitor his family would be glad to see him too. Turns out Sungjong was busily chatting nonstop during the entire 3 hour journey down (this is the cutest thing ever please)
Sungyeol is thankful that Sunggyu talked him out of enlisting in the navy
Q: did you count down to your discharge date?
SY: for these kind of things, time goes faster when you don’t keep thinking about it!
He also said that there were times even he doesn’t remember how many days he has left but when he searched his name you could see the "d-XXX" too
SG: Dongwoo’s discharge is on the 15th the same day as my online concert
SY: then we can do this together
SG: why me
SY: are you not Infinite?
SG: I am Infinite. I am Infinite’s leader!
SY: Then why don’t you want to do it
SG: Why are you making the decision alone!
gyuyeol just did a brief explanation/disclaimer that they may sound like they're quarrelling but it's basically just excited conversations because they haven’t hung out like this for a while 😊
SG: What does MBTI stand for?
SY: Mental Brain Tie/Tee Eye (lmaoo)
Sungyeol said he will do the test sometime.
*Sungyeol talking, Sunggyu reaches over to get food*
SY: excuse me I'm talking and you're eating??????
SG: Everyone we almost couldn’t make it for the live because Sungyeol was late! he left the shop at 6:30 and our live's at 7! He was eating too!
SY: I WAS NOT LATE that was my first meal! –
SY: and it’s been so long since I got to meet the fans so I wanted to do my hair nicely. And I didn’t even finish my food
Question about mint chocolate
Sungyeol doesn’t eat sweet stuff - chocolate/mint chocolate, cream etc. (for health reasons apparently)
Sungyeol talked about how well Sunggyu did in Kinky Boots
Q: to Sungyeol, musical <Return> is?
SY: a place where I can meet Sunggyu and it was an adventure for me and I met fans through it too
sg promoting <The Day> (his online concert) then said Sungyeol said he's gonna be present too so let's see whether he'll keep his promise
SY: of course. What shall we do when I’m there?
SG: ...let's have a meal?!?! (ok…lmao)
someone mentioned 'tell me 1st promise'
SY: do you remember?
SG: no. you're the one who said it
SY: ah was it the choochoo (train) one?
SG: you can do it (since you're the one who proposed it)
There was some chaos at this point with Sungyeol talking over him and Sunggyu said ‘ok Noisy’ kjlsgf;hgdkk
The following story was mentioned in the 10th anniversary live with Kim bros as well lmao he really won’t let this go:
There was a time when they went to a beach in Thailand and Sunggyu didn’t wanna go into the water because his condition was not good and he didn’t like water etc and Namu and Yeol went up and asked if he wanna go in but he said no. Namu left him alone but then Yeol went something like "LOL YEAH RIGHT" and threw Sunggyu into the water. And he lost his ring so he got really mad.
SG: I told you not to do it!
SY: You always say ‘no’…I thought you were lying and I was young and just wanted to do it
SG: Next time just listen to me
Q: What do you think about doing an exercising broadcast
SG: Yes, can you show your six pack…
SY: No, not to that extent
Q: what was the reason you became obsessed with working out?
SY: there wasn’t really a reason, simply because I did it regularly. e.g. regularly working out for a period of time then stopping, ~6 months later I was regularly working out again so I thought I might as well just make it a regular thing
SG: but what made you start?
*more bickering*
SY: it’s because you told me I have small shoulders
SY: Wow all we have done for an hour is fight
They talked about younger idols covering their songs and how amazed they were. They said thank you to everyone 💛
Q: Any fun incident from the military?
SG: The military is not fun as you guys think
SY: When I enlisted, the leader told the other soldiers not to pay attention to Sungyeol (As he is an idol and to not bother him) but that made him feel kind of lonely (aww)
Q: choose between going back to the military again or trainee days again?
SY: Wow. this is like asking to choose dad or mom
He chose trainee because he did his military really well so if he were to do it again he doesn’t know if he can do it as well as the first time. but he has lots of 'I could’ve done it better' moments during his trainee days so he'd rather do trainee period again and this time do it better
He said that when they were trainees, they were laying down on a rooftop watching the sky and saw fireworks. Apparently, there was Dream Concert happening nearby. He wondered if they would be able to perform at Dream Concert too someday (TT)
Q: Was there anything different about what you heard about the military and when you're actually there?
SY: the fact that I have to take care of myself more
Q: the thing you wanted to do the most in the military
SY said having a different exercise routine (bc you do the same thing everyday in military? idk)
sg: to Sungyeol, what is exercising?
SY: Something I have to do everyday
He said gyu turned him into a sinner on broadcast by saying that Sungyeol forced him to exercise (lmaooo)
Sungyeol's 'to-do' list:
- MBTI
- tell me 'choo-choo' win promise (YES FINALLY ITS BEEN 2.5 YRS)
- go on a trip
- do a dance from his musical audition
Sungyeol said when Sunggyu's enlistment had less than 100 days left, Sungyeol put some distance from Sunggyu because he was afraid if he was too close with gyu till he finished his military then he'd feel lonely when gyu discharged.
Then Sunggyu said "oh you're weaker than I expected"
SY to SG: I wasn’t like you who had the thought of ‘when else will I be able to eat this much?’ In the military, I always kept in mind to manage myself, how to look even better when I get discharged
SG: but.. you ate chicken with mee?? (haha cuute)
SG: *reads out a question about Yeol performing as Freddie Mercury*
SY: *drinking water* *chokes* Someone took a video of that???
SG: Sungyeol prepared so hard for that performance when he doesn’t prepare that hard for our concerts..
Sungyeol wanted to do the men's health magazine photoshoot too he's sad he wasn't given that opportunity. (you can do it now…do everything now while Sunggyu has power)
Comment about how good he looks in his military uniform, and Sungyeol said, yes I know
Q: When do you miss the members most
SY: I saw Sunggyu and Woohyun quite a bit…the thing I miss most is the end of year fanmeeting and doing the New Year countdown together
They showed the cake that said ‘Let’s protect Inspirits now instead of the country’ and Sunggyu said to cheer for Sungyeol a lot
💛💛💛

Bucky Barnes Loves Dogs
Summary: following Bucky throughout life as he wants a dog.
For: @falcon-chill. It’s been simply lovely to talk with you over anon, and I loved writing this. I’m excited to chat off anon now and get to know you better! Much thanks to @nottodaylogic who helped me with writing this and @metalbvcky who set this all up! A very happy holidays to you all!
-
Bucky Barnes had always wanted a pet.
A PET was the first thing written on every birthday list, right before toy soldiers or gum or whatever new thing he wanted that year.
Once for Halloween, he got a baby sister. He didn’t know you were supposed to get presents at Halloween.
Around his seventh birthday, he asked his dad why he never got a pet. Pa had ruffled his hair and laughed.
“You’ve got enough brothers and sisters, Jamie. Isn’t that good, bud?”
He’d just mumble “sure”, not wanting to upset his Ma who’d made his brothers and sisters.
-
When he lived with Steve in their own little apartment, he still wanted a pet.
Both of them knew it was impossible. With rent, food, and Steve’s frequent doctor visits, there just wasn’t the money.
Even though Bucky still couldn’t have a pet of his own, he enjoyed petting the stray dogs in the street or the dogs of rich ladies who lived near his parents.
-
Once the United States joined World War Two, Bucky got sent to Camp McCoy to train for the army. He heard that some folks were training dogs to assist the soldiers. He immediately wrote home to Steve.
Stevie, you’ll never believe it!
Dogs are being trained to assist soldiers!
You know I’m being trained as a sniper, but I wish I could be a dog handler.
Maybe when I come home a war hero we can get a dog and a big house with a big lawn for the dog to run in.
How are you? How’s home? Are you staying out of fights? I miss you lots. Sometimes it gets real cold in the barracks, and I miss our home and the blankets your ma made.
Anyway, I’m doing pretty well.
All my best, Buck
-
The base in Italy was wet, cold, and terrifying. Bucky had never been out of the States before, and now he was in enemy territory with Axis soldiers trying to kill him.
Bucky was scared any time had to leave his barracks (even though he knew a roof wasn’t going to do much against bombs).
The only part of the camp that resembled something normal was the mess hall. The food was rarely any good, but mealtimes brought all the soldiers together like battles didn’t. Sure, you trusted your brothers in arms during battle, but meals were different. Battles brought out fear and anxiety, while meals brought out laughter and stories of back home.
“What I miss the most is the ocean. Big blue waves crashing on the sand. And the sun! Fellas, it felt so good to just lay on the warm sand with the sun in the sky over ya’.”
“Aw, shut up, Frankie, we’ve heard enough about the sun,” Bucky said, laughing.
“Well, alright, Barnes, what’s somethin’ you miss?” Frankie shot back.
Bucky rubbed at the back of his neck. He missed his family, and he missed his bed and home-cooked meals. He missed working at the docks and going to dance halls when he could scrounge up enough change. Most of all though, he missed Steve.
But the soldiers didn’t want to hear about Steve.
“I—I miss seeing the dogs that the rich ladies have. Those ladies walk ‘round all near my parents’ place with their silk coats and pearl necklaces, and the dogs are sometimes looking nicer than my brothers! What with their fur all neat and those bright shining collars. I know it’s real over the top, but I wish I could have a dog to spoil like that.”
He did want a dog, that wasn’t a lie.
But what he wanted most was to be at home, curled up with Steve in their bed.
-
Strapped to a cold metal table and experimented on somewhere in Austria, Bucky had frequent fever-dreams.
Usually, he’d dream about Steve. Even though in reality Steve got into fights all the time, that was a rare occurrence in his dreams. Most of the time he’d dream about coming home from a long day of work to a warm supper on the stove made by a Steve who was healthy. Other times, he’d dream about the house always being warm and sitting and listening to the radio with Steve.
Occasionally, he’d dream about having a puppy. Steve would always be present in the dreams with a puppy. Steve and Bucky would take their soft golden puppy on walks at night. Sometimes when it was warm they’d stop at Coney Island for some ice cream, and they’d let their dog splash in the waves.
But no matter how much he dreamed, it never came true. No puppy, and certainly no Steve.
-
Once again, Bucky was being shaken awake.
Even though he despised his alarm clock from back in Brooklyn, he found himself longing for it now. Getting shaken awake got old fast.
He groggily opened his eyes, expecting to see the bald German scientist hovering over him.
He did not see the bald German scientist.
He saw a man who looked just like Steve, only taller and with more muscle.
He must be hallucinating.
The man shook him again. “Buck, c’mon, wake up.”
That voice was Steve’s voice. Bucky would bet his life on it.
“Stevie,” he mumbled, tired from days of experiments and dozing on the metal table.
“Yeah, it’s me, pal.” Steve pressed a large, cold hand to Bucky’s cheek. “I thought you were dead, Buck.”
“I thought you were smaller.”
Steve laughed, a loud, real laugh in the middle of a war. “Let’s get out of here.”
-
Back at base, Steve and Bucky were rushed to the medical tent.
A nurse bandaged Steve’s scrapes, put some ointment on his burns, and declared that other than a few minor injuries, he was fine.
Bucky, on the other hand… Well, no one was quite sure what had happened to Bucky. Aside from a few burns from the fire, he had no visible wounds, but his head pounded something terrible, and his muscles felt achy. A nurse gave Bucky some water and placed a cool rag on his forehead and then left with a promise to return soon.
She returned with Colonel Phillips, and Steve paced beside Bucky’s cot as the nurse and the colonel discussed something quietly.
Bucky fell asleep.
When he woke, Steve was sitting in a chair beside his cot, hand clasped together, head bowed.
“Ste—Steve,” Bucky muttered out.
Steve’s head jerked up. “Oh, you’re awake. Here, let me get you some water.”
“No.” Bucky reached out, fingers grasping the sleeve of Steve’s shirt. “Stay.”
“Alright.”
Bucky turned his face towards his friend. “Are they sending me home?”
“They’re sending all of us to London.” Steve’s lips lifted, however slightly. “Giving us a break from duty for now.”
“You too? You’re gonna come with?” Bucky pulled at a thread in the blanket. What if they sent him away from Steve? What if Steve wasn’t coming too? HE wouldn’t be able to handle that.
Steve placed his hand over Bucky’s restless one. “Of course me too. Think I’d let them send me somewhere without you?”
“Y’know what?”
“Huh?”
“I want a dog, Stevie.”
“Go back to sleep, jerk.”
-
The streets of London were loud, though to Bucky, everything was loud. The pounding in his head had never really gone away.
Even though the sounds made his head hurt, Bucky didn’t mind the noise all that much.
It was nice to be able to walk outside without the fear of being attacked by enemy troops—or at least, less fear of being attacked by enemy troops.
He liked being able to spend time with Steve. They would walk all around the city together. Brooklyn would always be home for Bucky, but he couldn’t deny that London was beautiful too.
One day while out walking with Steve, Bucky had seen a fluffy brown dog running in the grass and catching a ball thrown by a young boy.
Desperately wanting to pet the dog, Bucky approached the young boy with much less confidence than he would have before the war.
“Can I pet your dog?” Bucky asked.
The boy smiled. “Sure. Her name is Teacup.”
“Thank you.” Bucky knelt down, scratching behind Teacup’s ears. “Such a good doggy.”
-
All Bucky wanted was for the new year to bring about the end of the war. He wanted to go home and see his ma and pa and siblings and go to work and dance halls and live with Steve in their little apartment.
Bucky never seemed to get what he wanted.
Instead of home, the new year brought the Howlies boarding an enemy train—in a terrible snowstorm no less.
Granted, they were doing this to capture Arnim Zola, the man who had experimented on Bucky.
So no, Bucky would not mind capturing him, and he would not mind his death, either. He would just prefer to go home instead.
Steve and Bucky landed on the train as planned, but when they entered the car, armed soldiers were ready for them.
Bucky shot at a soldier while Steve slammed his shield into another’s head. Two more soldiers came in. Bucky shot one and was aiming at the other when suddenly he was blasted backwards.
Wind was whipping around him, and the deep ravine was below him, and how did he even get here in the first place when he just wanted to go home?
He saw Steve leaning over the side of the train, reaching a hand out to him. “Hold on! Hold on, Bucky. Grab my hand!”
Bucky stretched, trying to grab hold of Steve’s hand, but there was a crack, and the rail he was holding onto broke.
And he was falling through the sky, down, down, down.
And he saw Steve’s heart break into a million pieces.
And he landed hard on the ground. So hard that it rattled his teeth and his bones.
He couldn’t feel his left arm. He couldn’t really feel anything at all.
It was cold.
He wanted to go home.
-
Once again, Bucky found himself strapped to a cold metal table.
His arm was gone. His head hurt.
In the beginning, he had tried to fight the HYDRA bastards who captured him but soon learned that fighting just got him punched and denied food.
Sometimes he’d hear Steve’s voice, and Bucky would bolt upright, looking everywhere for the source of it.
The agents would laugh at him.
“Captain America isn’t coming for you, Sergeant,” they’d say, mocking.
Bucky was so tired.
He wanted to be home. He wanted to curl up in bed with Steve, and he wanted to go on evening walks with a dog, and he wanted to go home.
Soon enough, he lost track of how long it had been.
-
The Soldier couldn’t remember anything.
Well, that wasn’t quite true.
The Soldier could remember blue eyes, but the handlers said he was imagining things.
-
The Soldier was instructed to take out Captain Rogers.
Captain Rogers was a good fighter.
Captain Rogers threw the Soldier in the air, and when the Soldier hit the ground, his face shield fell off.
The Soldier got to his feet, glaring at Captain Rogers.
“Bucky?” Captain Rogers said, mouth open in shock.
What was a Bucky? No, Captain Rogers was addressing someone. Captain Rogers was addressing the Soldier. “Who the hell is Bucky?”
-
The Soldier—no, James.
James found his own little apartment.
He went out now and then but mostly tried to stay out of the way of everybody.
He didn’t want to be noticed.
James would cook himself meals in his apartment. He would water the plant that sat next to his bed.
Some days he would forget to water the plant.
Some days he would forget to eat.
Some days he would have a hard time, memories swarming in from all directions, and confusion overtaking his mind.
Some days, though, he wouldn’t have a hard time. Those days he would go for a run, maybe pick up a book from a small bookstore near his apartment.
He slowly started to remember things. He liked science.
He liked to look out the window and see dogs passing by on the street.
He wanted a dog.
-
James just wanted to buy some fruit, when all of a sudden he was accused of killing the cat man’s father.
He did not kill the cat man’s father.
He didn’t do that anymore.
But he still found himself in Siberia after fighting the cat man, two flying robots, and a spider kid.
It turned out one of the flying robots was actually Tony Stark.
Howard Stark’s son.
He didn’t mean to kill Howard Stark, but that didn’t seem to matter to Tony.
His arm was gone, his arm was gone.
He had just wanted to buy some fruit, go home, and water his plant.
-
Things were getting better.
James was living in an apartment at the Avengers compound with Steve.
James was going to therapy.
James was starting to remember things. Steve was his friend. Steve liked to draw. James liked to listen to music. James liked to read and do puzzles.
James had gotten a dog, a golden retriever. Both Sam and his therapist had suggested it.
Pluto was a good doggie. James and Steve would go for walks with Pluto. When James was having a hard time, Pluto would snuggle against him, grounding him.
And Steve? Steve was a good friend to James. Steve helped him to remember; Steve helped when he had a hard time.
Steve was special to James.
-
Bucky had been reading on the internet. There was a lot to learn.
He always knew that he liked more than just girls.
Now, there was a word for it.
Pansexual, he figured, fit him.
He told Steve, saying, “I’m pansexual. Means I like girls and boys and other people, too. If you want me to leave, just say.”
Steve broke out in a smile. “I like boys and girls, too, Bucky. Bisexual.”
“Oh.”
“And I… Bucky, I like you. I love you. I’ve always loved you.”
Bucky must’ve been quick for a little too long as Steve said, “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have said anything. I’m sorry.”
“No!” Bucky said. “I just… there’s a lot of things going on. There’s a lot of things that have happened. But… I think I loved you before, and I like you a lot now.”
Steve just stared at him.
“Could I miss you, Steve?”
And Steve just leaned in, and Bucky put a hand to his cheek and kissed his lips softly, and it was nice nice nice.
“Would you like to go to Pride?” Steve whispered.
“I’d like that, Steve.” And he kissed him gently.
-
“Hop in, buddy,” Bucky said to Pluto, who was wearing a sign that said: PLUTO LOVES YOU.
Bucky himself was wearing shorts and a t-shirt, with pan flags painted on his cheeks.
“Ready, Buck?”
Bucky slid into the passenger seat of the car. Steve, wearing a bi flag tied around his neck, smiled at him.
“It will be good,” Bucky said, taking Steve’s hand.
“It will be,” Steve agreed.
They kissed.
It was good.

10 Movies You Should Watch This Halloween 2020
It’s the first full week of October, so Halloween is in full swing! This year, I continue my tradition of recommending some excellent films to watch during the Halloween season but with a COVID-19 twist for many of the movies on this list. Here are the 10 movies you should check out this Halloween:
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Tumblr media
“My family’s always been in meat.”
This movie recently got a 4K remaster making it look even more gruesome than ever! The film feels so real compared many other slasher horror films with the deaths coming out of nowhere and the killings being hyper-realistic. They even used real skeletons for the making of some of the scenes! The sound design also is something so terrifying; you’ll never want to listen to the sound of a chainsaw ever again!
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Tumblr media
“Let’s do the Time Warp again”
One of the most fun horror movies of all time celebrates its 45th anniversary this Halloween! I like how the film satirizes the B-movie mad scientist genre and Tim Curry gives a stellar performance as Dr. Frankenfurter. Also the songs are so fun and catchy and will get stuck in your head forever! My favorite songs in the movie are “Science Fiction Double Feature” and “Hot Patootie - Bless My Soul.”
Hausu (1977)
Tumblr media
“My fingers are gone!”
“House” is the title in English. This trippy Japanese haunted-house movie is a real treat for the eyes! The film is so mesmerizingly weird with its flashy colors and cartoon-like special effects. Definitely one worth checking out if you are looking to feel terrified and strange at the same time!
The Hunger (1983)
Tumblr media
“Forever and ever!”
David Bowie as a vampire... yes please! The makeup and effects are really good in the movie especially in the scenes as Bowie’s vampire character ages rapidly from lack of drinking blood. The film has some creepy sequences, including some intense scenes in which it seems as though Bowie’s vampire is going to claim another victim and a scene in which Susan Sarandon’s character comes across several coffins of vampires. Definitely one of the scariest vampire movies of the last 40 years!
Ghostbusters (1984)
Tumblr media
“Who you gonna call?”
We didn’t get the highly-anticipated Ghostbusters: Afterlife this year because of the pandemic, so to tide us over until it comes out, this Halloween would be a good time to revisit the original horror-comedy classic. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and the rest of the cast give some of their most memorable performances in this movie. Growing up I used to watch this and its sequel in the ooze-green boxset that included a couple animated episodes; highly recommend tracking a copy down if you want the best Halloween viewing experience.
The Exorcist III (1990)
Tumblr media
“I have dreams… of a rose, and then falling down a long flight of steps.”
This movie might be one of the best horror sequels ever made! George C. Scott gives a fantastic performance in the lead role as do Jason Miller (returning as his role of Father Karris from the original Exorcist) and Brad Dourif as the Gemini Killer. I saw many of the filming locations when I visited DC back in 2015. A majority of the movie takes place in a hospital, which is usually scary enough on its own. There is an especially frightening scene involving a possessed patient and surgical scissors! This year marks its 30th anniversary, so this Halloween would be a good time to check it out if you haven’t seen it in a long time or are a fan of the original and never saw this one (you can actually skip the second one as this film makes no direct references to that movie). There is a director’s cut that was released a few years that provides some good deleted scenes and extra dialogue, though overall I prefer the theatrical cut.
Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995)
Tumblr media
“Michael Myers is my business!”
This 6th entry in the Halloween series celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Lots of fans consider this the “worst” of the Halloween movies, but I find lots of good merits in the film, especially the producer’s cut released 2014 which features several extended and alternate scenes. I really like the Halloween (holiday) scenery of the film making it feel like it really takes place on October 31st unlike most of the series particularly in the scenes taking place at the Halloween carnival (the “red rain” scene being a highlight). The cinematography and suspense also are superior compared to many of the sequels, probably the closest the series has ever come to capture the style of the first two films. I also like how the film explores the mystery of Michael Myers more so than the other ones giving him a reason for his killing nature other than he is just “evil.” This movie is the last time Michael Myers is actually scary and not just a “killing machine” or some dummy for Busta Rhymes to kong-fu fight (ie Halloween: Resurrection). This also marked the final appearance of Donald Pleasance as Dr. Sam Loomis as he died in real life shortly after filming his scenes. Definitely check out the producer’s cut if you have never seen the film or you have only seen the theatrical cut as it makes it one of the best Halloween films.
Goosebumps: “The Haunted Mask II” (1996)
Tumblr media
“That’s no mask! That’s your face!”
Everyone is wearing masks these days, so what a fitting episode of Goosebumps to watch this Halloween! This is one of my favorite episodes along with the first one from 1995 (which was on my 2018 Halloween watch list). The scenes set in the basement of the costume shop are so creepy; something about abandoned places, especially in the dark, have always frightfully fascinated me. I used to watch the VHS of this movie every Halloween at my grandparents’ house and always hope they would do a 3rd one. Maybe someday!
Cabin Fever (2002)
Tumblr media
“I don’t want any of us getting sick!”
Everyone is worried about coronavirus right now, so this Halloween would be the ideal time to check out this slasher in which a deadly virus is the killer. Really creepy shots of people getting infected and dying from the virus; the movie will make you a germaphobe! Interesting note that David Lynch was originally going to produce the movie but backed out during production, however Lynch’s frequent composer Angelo Badalamenti provides some of the music for the film.
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Tumblr media
“We’re all dying. The world’s just one big hospice with fresh air.”
This sequel to The Shining was released last November nearly 40 years after the original, but it was well worth the wait! The film visually maintains the same style and tone of Kubrick’s original film while expanding upon some of its themes but without giving too much information as to ruin the mysteries surrounding the original. Like some of the other films on this list, there is a director’s cut which fleshes out scenes and characters; highly recommend it!
As a Halloween treat, here is a shot from my new spiritual horror film Sister, which should be released sometime this coming year! Happy Halloween everyone!

Watch The Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQtq43ovSP4 2022 @SYFY Chucky Season 2 Air Date New Trailer & Poster Chucky will be back on SYFY and USA on October 5, 2022 for another season of mayhem and murder, according to a newly released trailer and poster. Chucky was a huge hit last year and saw the return of everyone’s favorite killer doll and plenty of old stars of the Child’s Play movie franchise including Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent and of course Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky himself. Now it is only a short three-month wait to see where Chucky and his self-styled army go next. Check out the trailer below. Chucky's next season will feature Meg Tilly, Gina Gershon, Jo Pantoliano, Tony Nappo, and Sutton Stracke in addition to other returnees, including Devon Sawa despite both of his season one characters being murdered. With the first season ending on a cliffhanger, the series is almost certain to be a smash this Halloween. SYFY Jennifer Tilly has frequently shared updates on her social media account during the development of Chucky's second season, including images of herself on site and with other cast members. She most recently tweeted a photo of herself sleeping on a bed with previous Bound co-star Gershon and Chucky creator Don Mancini during a break in filming. https://www.instagram.com/p/CfOSSQ5uq76/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link Chucky is a Perfect Continuation of The Child’s Play Franchise Universal Although an attempt was made to revitalize Child's Play, with Star Wars actor Mark Hamill supplying a voice for a new version of Chucky, it quickly became clear that fans They didn't want a new Chucky; they wanted their old one back. Don Mancini accomplished just that when he brought Chucky to the big screen last year, and the opportunity to return the deadly doll in a new medium was a dream come true for the franchise's creator. He had previously stated: "Once you get into your fourth decade in a franchise, it's trying to forge ahead into unseen, unexplored territory. And the idea of multiple Chucky dolls always appealed to me. First, of course, just as a visual, it's irresistible, but then conceptually, there are so many things you can do with it. I can't talk too much about that because I don't want to spoil fun coming in season two, but insofar as it impacted what we've already done in season one. Yeah, it was important that they not have a hive mind because I think it's more interesting to do this and, again, turn Brad on subtle variations of the Chucky persona. On a lot of fronts, that's something we were doing a lot of in this season of Chucky, which is dissecting the persona of Chucky and the persona of Charles Lee Ray" Chucky's next season will take up immediately after the events of season one's end, with an army of Chucky dolls, each with a little bit of Charles Lee Ray inside them, ready to wreak havoc. We can expect another bloody affair as Chucky's reign of terror continues, and this time his female counterpart Tiffany is very much along for the journey.
