haikyuu!! the dumpster battle ramblings
saw it earlier today and am going to see it again tomorow with a friend, am very Full Of Thoughts, if u dont wont spoilers for the movie well take this as your warning ig
okay first of all the sound direction, the sound direction was INSANELY good
this is absolutely a movie that needs to be experienced in cinema, the soundscape of tokyo gymnasium and the karasuno v nekoma match felt so vividly real it was like i was at an actual game
the soundtrack was great too, i mean it always is w/ hayashi yuuki
there were i think two tracks that used the leitmotif from 'above', good shit
the animation was also really great, overall it didnt look massively better than season 4 of the anime
which is fine, season 4 looked great imo (minus that outsourced episode)
but holy shit when the sakuga hit it hit HARD
tsukki and lev blocking, kageyama doing his thing, kenma and kuroo's quick, there were lots of really great sakuga moments
they also reused some shots from earlier on in the anime and idk maybe thats 'lazy' or whatever but i liked it, it was very nostalgic :')
they did re-animate and i think re-voice hinata and kenma's first meeting tho, framing it from kenma's POV, loved that
i think my favourite sakuga shot had to be hinata and kenma with the knives at each other's throats tho, that ate
not sure how i didnt know about this before hand but it made perfect sense to me when i saw studio trigger in the end credits, some of the sakuga, esp the blocking, had a bit of that trigger flair to it
so obviously they werent gonna fit in everything from the manga, and the movie definitely had kenma as its focus, but i think overall they did a decent job in picking and chosing what to cut
the one thing im annoyed about is the removal of old coach ukai and coach nekomata's backstory, i really i think it makes the handshake at the end of the game hit that much harder
other than that tho i dont think the movie suffered from not adapting everything in the manga, i mean obviously i wouldve LIKED it, but i dont think the movie NEEDED it to be a good movie
it very much felt like kenma was the main character of the movie, and the main focus, with kuroo and hinata as his deuteragonists
which i liked!!! i think framing the match from kenma's POV for the most part makes sense, and its fun to spend more time in outsider POVs of karasuno
rlly loved the adaptation of kuroo and kenma's childhood flashback, im pretty sure kaji yuuki voiced kid kenma too
watching their friendship grow and seeing them play togther now as high schoolers, AUGH RIGHT IN THE FEELS
theres also a montage of kid kuroo barging into kenma's room to demand they go play volleyball together that ends on kuroo doing so whilst kenma's changing/putting on trousers which was rlly funny and silly
the stuff with kuroo and tsukki was so good too
'thanks to everyone, occasionally it's fun', 'thank god i wasnt wrong', 'he's a man who walks ahead of me'
AUUUGHHHHHH IT WAS SO GOOD :')
the scene that completely stole my breath away though was kageyama setting the open toss to hinata
i know ive already lost my mind over the whole 'threat of trust' thing and truly, the inarizaki match goes insane with that concept i will always adore it
but holy shit that scene smacked me over the head, HARD, with the concept of 'setting as a love language'
i just... i literally dont even have words for it it was SO amazingly good, i legitimately teared up in the cinema
speaking of other great scenes;
'stay interesting, 'kay?'
OHHHHH GODDDDDDDDDD
they did it perfectly
the music and the soundscape completely cutting out, the background whiting out so its just kenma and the net, kaji yuuki's delivery of the line
it genuinely felt like something out of a horror movie, it was creepy, and unsettling, and PERFECT
also;
hinata's reaction after kenma collapses and says 'that was fun'
murase ayumu's delivery was so VISCERAL, dude got in that booth and CHEERED
you really felt hinata's sheer utter come through in that little scene, same with kuroo's incredulous laugh
the end of the match was slightly a mixed bag for me
on the good hand;
having done from kenma's first person POV was cool, i dont think haikyuu's ever really done that before, and it looked awesome
cutting back on the music and background soundscaping so we just focus on kenma's breathing and the sound of the ball/players jumping/shoes squeaking etc was a great way to really immerse the viewer in the scene, and put us inside kenma's head
on the bad hand;
it was anticlimatic, and i KNOW the whole point of the end of the match is that its anticlimatic,
but i had always imagined the scene with dramatic swelling music and the characters running frantically, only for it to all cut away when the ball slips and all you can hear is kenma's 'ah-' and there'd be a close-up of his facial expression
the stage play did a very similar thing and it worked EXTREMELY well imo
instead by doing it in the first person POV and already not having music it just,,, didnt feel quite as impactful as it shouldve imo??
like the match points for the seijoh, shiratorizawa, or inarizaki matches were done really dramatically
and i know the whole point is that the nekoma match is kinda an outlier in that it ends in that anticlimatic way with the ball slipping, and theres that big beat with hinata calling out 'nice serve' to tanaka before the realisation sets in that theyve won, but jusstttt
idk like it certainly wasnt BAD, i still DEEPLY DEEPLY enjoyed it, but just personally if i'd been the director i wouldve done it differently
also!! because it was from his first person POV we didnt get to see kenma's face on the 'idiot! the ball hasn't dropped yet!!!' line, which was pretty disapointing ngl i rlly love that scene how it is in the manga
ok enough complaining tho back to the infinite list of stuff i loved about the movie
the camera work! good god the camera work was so fucking cool
it really made the space of the gymnasium feel 3d and real, the way the camera would move over and through the net with the ball helped emphasise the physicality of the players and the court
i know jack shit about cinematography but yeah, after the sound design the camera work was prolly the best thing
the post credits scene was great!! daishou trying and failing to neg kuroo cracks me up every damn time
and the set up for the kamomedai match was so hype
speaking of; the very vague forshadowing for hinata's fever of him having flushed cheeks and not being all exhausted after the game like the others, auughhh my heartttt
if he isnt already, this movie will make kenma one of your top 5 haikyuu characters
seriously i love how they switched the perspective and framing so it was a bit more like kenma was the 'main character' of this match and hinata was the 'rival'
overall the movie was cool, creative, and a really clearly loving adaptation, im more than happy to be paying to see it again tmr lol
i'll probably have even more to say after seeing it a 2nd time so tune in for that ig

While we are waiting for BE MINE, English version, to drop, I continue to demand JUSTICE for Rebirth.
It's ethereal and entrancing, and Jimin's heavenly voice just soars. He has both writing and producing credits, which explains why Rebirth is very Jimin-coded. It doesn't deserve to be put in the corner of "oh, it's only an intro."
I like to imagine Jimin singing this with a full gospel choir behind him. So inspiring!
Good love...Real love...
Wouldn't this be a phenomenal soundtrack for a big blockbuster romance? Picture the scene...sun rising on a beautiful beach, lovers joyfully running towards each other, meeting with a tangle of arms and legs and lips. Meanwhile, the music swells, and the camera pans up to the beginning of a new day.
And ajimin made it all possible!
tbh (and i apologize in advance) rebirth actually ranked pretty low for muse tracks for me. im sorry, i really am. that said, just because it ranked low in terms of muse tracks, it ranks wayyy above any other release from any other k-act, so let's give rebirth some love, shall we?
sparkly intro. i love love instrumentals that sound "sparkly"
the only thing that knocked it down on my ranking is the autotune on the song. now, im all against the "hating a song for it's autotune" movement that surrounds jimin for some reason (why??), but there is one note in the song that irks me every time because the pitch corrector was a bit intense. i'll get over it tho, its literally 1 second of the song and the rest of the song you can't hear it.
jimin's witty lyrics >>> "Like 태양이 비추는 vibe." That's genuinely hilarious
i think jimin has like having a choir singing behind him. friends, closer than this, rebirth? it's cute and it compliments his voice so nicely
the best part of the song is the with you with you/reason reason reason part. gospel singing is a lot a lot different than pop singing. idk how to describe it, but jimin adapts his voice super nicely to the choir's. he's actually dropping the pretty high tone that he holds with his voice and upping the vibrato in his phrasing and its heavenly
this falsetto sounds amazing in this song. im sad he doesn't use that register more because he sounds so good using falsetto and head voice
the general production on this song is incredible. it's sounds like being wrapped in a big cozy blanket. it just surrounds you
do i even have to mention the lyrics? they're so gorgeously written (nothing but the best from our jimin)
its definitely ost worthy and i think the reason is orchestral ending that swells before it goes quiet. but no really, this would be an amazing movie ending ost

Worst Video Game Song Tournament - Round 3 Match 3
The Yoshi Clan - Yoshi's New Island
youtube
VERSUS
Mansion Basement - Resident Evil Director's Cut
youtube
FIGHT!
I would recommend listening to as much as you can of each song before voting, but how you choose is up to you! Remember to be civil in the tags and replies!
Propaganda under cut:
The Yoshi Clan:
"the ass band will play a song of farts to celebrate your failure"
"#FUCK YOU YOSHI"
"#yoshi sounds like suck"
"#YOOOOOOOOSHI CLAAAAN!!!!!!!! #ok im gonna complete my santa review before getting to my ten page essay on why i love yoshi clan. yea that shit bad #i accidentally started it playing in two tabs at different points of the video which was honestly really fun. i recommend tryin that esp wi #bad songs really adds smthn to the exprience. it was awesoeme #it also just sounds the exact type of awful that that video image implies which is cool. its so perfect. it sounds ass #but. what it can not beat. is my favorite of all time. my darling love. it is time to begin my sermon #ok so yoshi clan is just so beautifully terrible. and truly the whole soundtrack is an orchestra of bad design. and its so fun to look at #that really nice professional looking art for the game and get BLASTED with kazoo #and like. i understand the thought process. kazoo does seem silly goofy yoshi. and it also sounds like a chorus of pain #now this song specifically has some really great awkward pauses. at 0:16 theres like a full 3 seconds of silence. which is SO cool #then the hot cross bun bit that ends at 0:27 gets so sad and deflated at the end of it. like it starts off in time but then clearly the #soloist got kinda embarrassed alone and so rushed and got really quiet. and its just so sad and lonely. its so cool #also some of these pauses have a couple lone far away kazoo squeaks for no reason before the 'melody' comes back in? awesome #but what i really really love about this. what really draws my eye. is the ending. because we go through this entire rigamarole with the #worst secondhand embarrassment of my life. then. 0:43. the kazoos move out. and in. the most genuinely awesome groovy drum beat in the worl #like its SO good. and those last few seconds are like you're in a different world. like you just survived horrors and you are brought to an #angelic chorus. and it lasts what 5 seconds? 5 seconds of beauty after a full 40 seconds of purgatory. in what world do horrors live foreve #while an angel can last for only a flash #its cruelty. its injustice. its completely ingenious. incredible music making. i am in such awe. #anyways thats my manifesto. please feel free to put any of this in the propaganda section op. im passioante"
Mansion Basement:
"this song fucking sucks. i love it."
"[Mansion Basement] is literally what letting my cat walk over my keyboard set on some particularly bad trumpet sample feels like. Spectacular"
"#This is so funny #Who made mansion basement?? #It's so sad!! #And pathetic!!"
"#whaat the fuuuck is up with [Mansion Basement]"
"#like NOTHING can compare to mansion basement #what the FUCK"
"#the mansion basement made me cry #ithink i know who the winner here is #🎺🔥🔥🎺🔥🎺🔥🎺🔥🎺🔥🎺🔥"
"#[Mansion Basement] THO HEEEELP.??? BABY ON FL STUDIO TRYING TO PLAY MARIO UNDERGROUND THEME...."
"#resident evil is a joke song for clowns"
"#I'M NOT LISTENING TO THE OTHER ONE I KNOW FOR A FACT IT'S MANSION BASEMENT #THE STORY BEHIND IT IS WILD TOO SO THAT'S AN AUTOMATIC WIN BABBBEEEYYY" (pollrunner's note if anyone knows what the story is please tell me i am dying to hear about it)
"#i saw the title of this post and literally IMMEDIATELY thought of mansion basement #felt emotionally validated when i saw it was an option #i love that song #in the worst way #like a drunk zombie looking for its keys in an orchestra"
"#im fucking obsessed with mansion basement. sweep"
"#what the hell that is not a real resident evil song #did they really just make that and put it in the game #what"
"#I ACTUALLY LIKE THE BASEMENT SONG because it perfectly captions how like- #the sneaky suspicion of getting diharrea feels"
"#fart basement ofc"
"#Mansion basement is objectively the funniest song ever"
Feel free to add more propaganda in the tags and replies, or send it to me in the ask box and I'll try to share it as soon as I can!

Your headcanons are always wonderful and accurate, can I please request some for shiratorizawa if you want?
oh my god hell yeah anon let's go
tendou's studying playlist is just all chill lofi remixes of pokemon soundtracks. he also loooooves those nanoblock pokemon figures you build yourself and wants to collect the entire eevee evolution line for his desk
(i have a galarian ponyta btw and i am totally accepting name suggestions for it)
the one way to piss off semi real fast is to say "and now, wonderwall!" whenever he walks into the room with his guitar
also may i introduce you to this wonderful thing called semiten
i kind of get the feeling they don't get along as first-years? first-year tendou is bffs with ushijima which means he's finally settled into being needlessly obnoxious bc ushijima is unflappable and takes tendou's bullshit with the utmost sincerity and first-year semi is hungry and aching and determined to prove himself
it is a terrible terrible combo at first
but, slowly, they settle into each other much like how dust settles into the cracks and crevices of a house long loved
and then second year happens and shirabu comes and everything falls apart again LMAAAAAAAAAOOOO
y'all know i love shirabu but like. goddamn if second-year semi wasn't full of angst and awkwardness about growing up and puberty and being cast to the side and all tendou wanted to do was reach out and grab him by the shoulders and yell in his face "YOU'RE GOOD ENOUGH YOU IDIOT I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU YOU'RE ENOUGH"
anyways
yamagata wanted to get his ears pierced but he's also afraid of needles so reon had to hold his hand through it the entire time
tendou somehow has access to the dorm rooftop because of course he does and he makes the team have picnics up there for bonding time
goshiki: "shirabu-san, would you still set for me if i was a worm?" shirabu: "what makes you think i'd set for you now?"
during a joint practice match with karasuno narita praises goshiki and goshiki starts tearing up
karasuno first-year crew is genuinely so blessed to have the upperclassmen they do. like guys come on think about it they are SO spoiled with it like holy hell i feel terrible for the other miyagi first years
(that deserves its own separate post tho)
someone starts the rumor that tendou is an esper and he does absolutely nothing to deny this, but he DOES do everything to confirm it. one of his classmates will be like "haha yeah i lost my textbook i guess i'll have to get a new one" and tendou will be like "ooh you should try looking inside the music room piano after five pm ;)" and the classmate is like "wtf" bc they've never been to the music room in their life but they go do it anyways and it's THERE
(tendou may or may not have paid goshiki to swipe the textbook and plant it)
KAWANISHI my beloved i haven't forgotten him
yeah yeah kozume kenma is a master gamer BUT kawanishi taichi is on the 3713th level of candy crush which is also, coincidentally, the level that i am on right now
also i think kawanishi is def one of those ppl who has earbuds tucked in at all times bc a) he thinks it makes him look cool and b) it keeps people from talking to him
and if they do try talking to him he just whips out his phone and makes a big show of blasting the volume to the point where the other person can hear it coming from his earbuds
also you know how tendou told semi that he looks uncool in casual clothes??? that's definitely a cover-up for tendou thinking semi looks really good in them
tendou, lying face-down in his pillow on the dorm floor: " - and did you see the ripped jeans??? ripped jeans are SO stupid they shouldn't even look that good he should have been freezing his ass off but noooooo he looked like he stepped out of a goddamn MAGAZINE - " reon, texting yamagata at the same time: "you need to raid semi's closet and burn his clothes i can't do this anymore"

top 5 games of all time?
objectively, i have to omit rain code djfkasd. that game is mid as FUCK!!! i still love it tho. scratches me brain just right. anyway, no particular order bc im indecicive:
Ghost Trick! genuinely my favorite mystery game of all time. the story is so good that i get why so many fans are so apprehensive about giving spoilers. the main twists sure did get my ass. also the puzzles are genius. genuinely my favorite puzzle game too i think
TGAA! i mean, this had to be here. my favorite ace attorney game, my favorite visual novel, my favorite cast of characters. this game has its flaws but none of which i felt truly hindered the experience. i've been a fan since before localization and even after the worldwide release it reignited so many passions of mine
Xenoblade Chronicles! The first game. it was crowned my favorite game ever for a very long time. i sunk hundreds of hours into it, genuinely love the story, and even got hooked on the mechanics and combat. unfortunately cant say the same for its successors
Pokemon Black 2! this may be the nostalgia talking but this is a comfort game for me. ive replayed it over and over and over. same goes for pokemon black. it got me through a lot of rough childhood patches and made me feel less alone at some of my worse moments. it's very dear to me
The World Ends With You. Not only do i find the gameplay and mechanics unique and fun, but i also just. really liked this game. i played it during my transitional period moving out of america. i think it really helped me deal with opening up to new environments and the world and feeling less anxious about the move. also the soundtrack is SO early 2000s (high praise)

I dont understand how people can hate the Twilight saga so much. Like I dont like Stephanie Meyer for a multitude of reasons, but separating the art from the artist is important in this conversation.
From a regular media standpoint, Twilight is So good AND IT STILL HOLDS UP- I genuinely love Twilight so much. Is it cringe? Yes. Are the movies objectively bad? Yes, but I will argue that the first movie is literally peak. You just had to be there. I was 5 years old in that theater with my mother when that movie came out.
The soundtrack for all the films are also just so amazing to look at because at the time of these movies coming out, so many popular artists were on it, even if they weren't That popular then??? Like Paramore has always been pretty famous but only among their emo warped tour communities KEEP IN MIND THIS WAS 2008!!! Paramore is much bigger now ever since the films. Even Florence and The Machine was in Twilight and it was from her best album too (Lungs, personal opinion tho).
A ton of media creation and ideas were born from Twilight and these movies started the trend of converting fanfic into films. Even if you dont like that kind of stuff, its still pretty cool to see that someones nerdy work can be turned into something they can see acted out- realized.
Also I feel like Twilight was a Moment for shippers it was such a cultural reset for fandom spaces and the Team Edward VS Team Jacob era was insane and I literally cannot think of another set of characters where girls were so violent about them
My phone is dying so im wrapping this rant up but yeah i 🩷 twilight

hello again~
I'm here to ask a question about LoZ. so, I have a friend who plays and recommended it to me because she knows I love open world games and breath of the wild is (apparently) one of the best open world games ever and I've been hesitating ever since. she might be a little biased tho lol
and like. there's a sale going on right now for botw, so the recommendation just kind made itself known in my memory again
anyway so, basically I'm here to ask if it'll be worth it? I mean, the general consensus wherever I go seems to be 'amazing, go get it u won't regret it'
(and, this is totally optional, but if you could answer asap that would be great because idk when the sale ends, thank you)
p.s I love little blade. you're amazing
I think it's obvious by now that I am a //massive// Zelda fan so tbh I'm likely no less bias than your friend lmfao, but that being said I'm going to try and give as balanced a response as possible!
Pros
BotW is beautiful, and I mean b e a u t i f u l . The graphics have this lovely watercolour quality to them as an ode to the artstyle used in Skyward Sword, but more crisp & refined. Unlike a lot of the big open world games (looking at you skyrim) BotW doesn't sacrifice colour or try to be "gritty", but rather leans into that soft-apocalypse, studio ghibli vibe.
The narrative is equally lovely and fulfilling, and depending upon what order you collect Link's memories in you will likely have a different gameplay experience. You'll also meet a lovable cast of characters to whom you'll end up unreasonably attached, which will ultimately break your heart in the end,,, I apologise in advance, but I promise you it's worth the pain.
On that note, do it for my bitch-ass bird son. You'll know him when you meet him.
Link can jump. This will mean very little to you if you've not played a LoZ game before, but my boy can fucking JUMP.
You can also climb pretty much everything (bar like one specific material) which means if you want to get to that Cool Thing Over There, then with a mix of mix of ungodly arrogance, sheer willpower, and a lot of stamina potions, you can. If you suffer from the magpie brain (ie. you see a new shiny thing and become immediately sidetracked from your original objective) this will mean that you take about 10x as long as you should to do literally anything, but my god is it fun.
The soundtrack gives me feelings that I cannot put into words, and the voice acting is //phenomenal//. Importantly, Link himself does not have a voice actor which is the only correct choice considering he's been heavily implied throughout the entire LoZ franchise to be an elective mute, and I would have //hated// hearing him speak.
Link is also just a very sweet & funny golden retriever boy who occasionally sasses back like nobody's business. 10/10 protagonist.
If you like women, you will like them even more by the end. If you don't like women, there's a 90% chance you'll seriously reconsider it upon meeting [REDACTED].
The game has something for everyone: you like exploring? Well you're going to do a lot of that. You like collectables? There are so many outfits (that you can dye to your liking!) and a wholeass compendium to fill out. You like puzzles? You'll certainly find your fair share. You like combat? The basic mechanics are what you'd expect with there are enough different enemy types to keep it interesting, but dO NOT FIGHT A LYNEL WITHOUT MAKING SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH WEAPONS BC THEY WILL BREAK AND LEAVE YOU WITH A VERY ANGRY VERY MEAN MAN TRYING TO KILL YOU.
It is genuinely very good value for money, and even more so if you can get it on sale! Not only do you have the mainline game & all its side-quests, but there's also the expansion pass, and, of course, an entire sequel just ready and waiting!
Cons
Sometimes the open world can feel a little too open. Considering the game's context, it makes sense, but comparatively games like Skyrim feel more densely packed with Things To Do, whereas BotW has several areas of overgrown nothingness that are lovely to look at, but not especially interesting (though this is better rectified in TotK).
You can't swim underwater. This was not rectified in TotK, though I dearly wish it had been.
A lot of fans used to complain about the temple format of p much every Zelda game up until this point, so the developers essentially removed temples altogether and instead replaced them with only four (technically optional) Divine Beasts, plus Hyrule Castle itself. I... did not like this. I'm a big puzzle girlie, and though BotW has shrines scattered across the landscape—most of which are puzzle-based—I personally felt that this substitute was lacking in comparison to the original. TotK does improve on this by reintroducing temples, but I still could have gone for a few more (Skyward Sword was the opposite of this, with very linear gameplay which a lot of people hated, but I personally will stand by SS's Ancient Cistern until my dying breath, and Twilight Princess had some really innovative temples that I have replayed several times over).
On a semi-adjacent note, the final boss just... wasn't my favourite. That's not to say it was bad, only as boss fights go I've had better (I did, however, like the final segment of that fight).
You will develop an immediate fear response to the Guardian music.
Ultimately though, I absolutely do think you should buy it, and am jealous that you'll get to have that bright-eyed bushy-tailed first-time experience, because believe me, if I could erase my memories and play BotW all over again, I would.

one day i will make a beautiful full rewrite of sonic forces like ive always dreamed of doing since i was a 14 year old girl
(ok so um. i started writing stuff in the tags and it accidentally got so long i went far beyond the tag limit. whoops. so this is just an actual post now. read more for my insane sonic forces rewrite ramblings)
i want to so fucking bad. every time i think about the wasted potential that is forces it makes me so depressed ToT i cant help but love forces despite it being garbage. the soundtrack is banging, the character customization is fun, i LOVE infinite, it attempted a darker story like the good ol days..... its so fucking bad but there were so many cool ideas and it drives me insane
also its one of the few sonic games i've actually played firsthand. purely because it was free on like the playstation game pass thing or whatever its called. and i did genuinely have fun with it even if it was pretty easy. also for the longest time of me being a sonic fan, forces was the latest mainline game. that era is when i got into sonic so idk. i cant help but look fondly on it even though its writing choices drive me fucking batty
while thinking about all this i came up with an interesting idea. so. there's something so fucking cool to me about infinite and the avatar's dynamic like. the way that infinite, despite his powers... him being a mobian and that scene of him flying right beside you and stuff..... idk its like he feels more on your level then some like ancient god villain or whatever.
that flying side-by-side scene esp inspired this but ANYWAY. what if, to make him AND the avatar character more interesting.... they were like. childhood friends or something. or just knew each other in the past in general. that would add SO much depth to their interactions within the game of like. infinite calling them weak. flying side by side. infinite's whole classic "character trying to reinvent themself" thing.
like infinite is using the power of the phantom ruby, trying to become strong because shadow called him weak and everything <- which btw this motivation has gotta change/be expanded upon cause this shit is still so silly. shadow called him gay and that's infinite's whole motive. cmon now we can do better than that
ANYWAYS. but that desperation from infinite to become an entirely new person - changing his name, wearing the mask, etc etc. that could become even more interesting if you add someone into the mix who knew infinite BEFORE his transformation.
and i know i know the avatar is supposed to be able to be projected on and stuff whatever whatever. but like idk man. plenty of protagonists have pasts that are part of the story even tho they're customizable. and besides it wouldnt be like a full backstory for the avatar. just the fact that they knew infinite once upon a time. and maybe something happened that split them apart or something. idk. but whatever happened between then and the events of the game wouldn't be elaborated upon, so you'd still be able to come up with your own story for your character if you want to.
and then the avatar's presence in the story could present a conflict for infinite. maybe despite him trying to act like he doesnt care, he like. hesitates. or lets the avatar go at some point. or something. and that gets him in trouble with eggman <- on that note. MORE CONFLICT BETWEEN EGGMAN AND INFINITE. im a little fuzzy on that aspect of the game but from what i can remember that never really goes anywhere. i want infinite being fickle about eggman's orders to MEAN SOMETHING!!!!!
also. i guess infinite could still ambiguously die at the end. but he'd definitely survive and show up in a later game, a la shadow. i need him to. my special boy.
anyways but going back to the avatar and infinite. i rlly think this could make both of them far more interesting than they are now. infinite rlly doesnt have like. an arc over the course of the story? hes just kinda. there. we get his backstory but in the present he kinda just. fights you a few times and then he dies. the end. this would actually give him something to do during the story, even if it was just like. brooding over why he let the avatar go or something.
and like..... i feel like forces SHOULD focus a lot on infinite? at least more so than the actual game did. like it doesnt have to be a shadow sa2 situation where like the whole game is centered around his story but i honestly... wouldnt be opposed to that either. like the war stuff is not that interesting im gonna be real.
also btw OBVIOUSLY the whole "sonic being imprisoned and tortured for 6 months with zero consequences" thing would be changed. that shit is so stupid and pointless. idk for sure if i'd just get rid of it outright or alter it, but probably the latter. cause like it IS actually an interesting scenario: how would these characters react to sonic being presumably dead? (long-term. 06 does not count LOL)
like that genuinely is a fascinating scenario to explore but i think one of the main things is that it would have to take place soon after it happened. none of this 6 months later amy wistfully going "sometimes i still dream sonic is with us....." shit, that is so dumb. WHAT is the point!!!
i'd want the story to start like fairly soon after sonic gets captured. and it wouldnt just be "sonic characters act as war generals" simulator. if we're doing this we are going ALL in. full focus on the characters' emotions and mental states which fluctuate over time. at the beginning they're hopeful but as more time passes with no sign of sonic and them losing more and more land to eggman, things start to crack. that could genuinely be so interesting to watch as long as it was treated with the actual seriousness it deserves instead of the cop-out edginess with no repercussions that the actual game has.
speaking of this part. TAILSSSSSSSS tails in forces was the wasted opportunity of the century. im gonna be real after having so much time to think about it, i really dont think that tails cowering after sonic was defeated was THAT egregious. i definitely think it could've been handled better, considering he had both beat chaos before and thought sonic had died before, BUT. tails is, at the end of the day, still a little kid. no matter how much hes grown and everything, thinking his big brother is fucking dead is probably still gonna fuck him up big time!!!
i also think that the idea of tails out on his own is SO fucking interesting and i am so mad every day that they barely did anything with that. maybe tails DID stay with everyone else at first. maybe after enough time everyone else presumed sonic to be dead and tails got upset because he knows sonic can't be dead, he always comes back, he did last time this happened right? and he left one day without telling anyone, attempting to try and find sonic himself.
and then he comes across omega all trashed up, and him fixing him, oh, idk, ACTUALLY MATTERS? (crazy i know) omega gets fully restored (plus some upgrades, of course) and it becomes the two of them against the world. throwing in a little craziness here but what if omega sticks with tails bcuz tails (who is definitely um. a lil more fucked up from everything) promises that hes directly interfering with eggman here, and that he'll actually allow omega to full on KILL eggman if/when they get the opportunity to. (tails is not fucking around) i just really need these two working together to be a thing.
rouge and shadow could also be MIA. i dont know if i'd want them as part of the larger resistance, they'd probably just be trying to help stuff on their own, but maybe at some point they'd realize that shit is really fucked this time and the only way they'll be able to stop eggman's reign of terror is by joining forces (lol) with the larger group. power of friendship and teamwork and all that, as is forces' main theme.
anyways. this is kind of all ive got swirling in my brain right now. i dont know how i'd tackle sonic's imprisonment itself. i definitely dont want to be in a position like the canon story where sonic should 100% be traumatized by what happened. bcuz i feel like thats probably a bit much lol... so maybe keep him imprisoned that whole time but get rid of the torture. idk, if we want to really get crazy with it we could throw in a whole thing where its like hey eggman why arent you just killing him? isnt that what you've wanted to do this whole time? funny how you're... keeping him alive like that. isnt easy bringing yourself to kill this kid you've basically watched grow up huh? even if he is your biggest enemy. idk that could result in way too much going on. but it could give a reason for sonic being kept alive + a reason why his imprisonment wasnt too crazy bad. just spitballing here.
ANYWAYS ANYWAYS. for real thats it I NEED TO GO TO BED. good god. maybe i'll rb this post at some point with more ideas if i have them. hell maybe i'll even write this whole thing someday..... regardless. GOOD NIGHT NEW YORK CITY!!!!!!!!!!

10. 14. & 25. for the ask list!!
aaaaa tysm!! (your donnie profile is so sweet btw i love it <333)
10. On a plane, do you ask for apple or orange juice?
Honestly? Cranberry. I absolutely love cranberry juice. And grape juice. And just literally juice in general man I’m realizing I just really like juice bsjsksjks
But if it was just apple and orange, I’d probably pick apple just cause it’s less citrusy and idk if citrus stuff on a plane would be a good idea? not sure why tho? idk but yeah apple :)
14. Do you think you’re dehydrated
hey now—
…yeah, yeah i probably am…
imma go get some water
25. Would you say you have a good taste in music?
NO. No I would not. I mean I love my taste in music, obviously I just like the songs I like lol but uh,,, no my music taste is abysmal.
It’s not like bad artists or songs or anything, it’s just none of it goes together whatsoever. Like I’ll genuinely switch from Abba and George Michael to Conan Gray and Cavetown to video game and movie soundtracks to Mother Mother and Ricky Montgomery, there’s just no consistency
Also this is semi-random but the other day I listened to a remixed version of Bones by Imagine Dragons that was compressed into 2-bit (like how most old video game music is 64 or 32-bit? yeah this was just two) and I’d link it but uh… I’d feel bad for peoples ears cause it’s not even music anymore it’s just crunchy beeps but my neurodivergent brain was having the time of its life lol

one more ask tonight but its not ab an ask game wowow .i wana hear ab ur music taste idc if its recs or music overall or music u hate or literally anything i just want 2 hear ab what music u do/dont listen to .i have s weird thing where like i think music taste is one of likeee two or three ways to best get to know each other n usually when i have a conversation w someone its one of the first things i ask them but i feel we have not had a proper conversation yet but i still want to ask. im going back 2 bed but yea i wana hear ab ur music taste all ik so far is u like exo + deco*27 n both r good choices (im admittedly so biased towards deco*27 tho vocaloid sp/in does that to a mfer btw .otome dissection by him is a somg that is so scarian to me) ok gn
answering ur asks out of order because the adhd be strong tonight (it's literally midnight ueueueue)
i am fr one of those motherfuckers with wild music taste, which honestly is really important for fic writing because it gives me lots of variety for scene work (a genuine part of the writing process for me is looping a song over and over because im trying to let a scene im working on "play out" in my head. surprisingly effective!)
anyways here's a few songs i've been listening to as of late + some favs:
FIGARO by Cook Thugless (more rap songs need an orchestral element in my opinion. the strings in the background? they FUCK majorly) Shchedryk (Carol of the Bells) by Eileen which is just the original version of Carol of the Bells sung in Ukrainian. it fucks majorly as well U — (English Version) by millennium parade from the Belle soundtrack, this is from an anime movie i've never seen. i enjoy it's marching band aesthetics and lyrical implications of re-exploring a world you never allowed yourself to be a part of before. this was my #1 song according to my spotify wrapped this year btw
Privacy by Baekhyun, honestly i love anything that man sings, this mini album got fucking HANDS dude
Tokyo Drifting by Glass Animals, UGH this song is so good. the backing track is so nice to listen to, i love the use of bass for emphasis and the way the backing drops out to punch you in the fucking face for the second half of the song also like. the entirety of the Montero album. when i tell you lil nas x made an album with ZERO flops on it, all bangers? i stand by that. i'm not as well-versed in vocaloid as i used to be (and i have a habit of reverting to favorites, vampire is one of the only "new" songs i've listened to in years) but, some bangers for u:
My Crush Was a Monster Boy Meltdown Leia (this is VERY scarian. to me.) Romeo & Cinderella Tokyo Teddy Bear A Realistic Logical Ideologist (also very grian core)

HII HOW WAS WATCHING SPIDERVERSE
tumblr keeps stopping my attempts to answer asks but ill ramble abt some non-spoilery things tht i didnt talk abt in the other ask!!
i love the way miles's parents are written in both this movie and the first. its just genuinely heartwarming to see a lot, and i cannot wait to see where they go with this next because i think miles and his parents are always a highlight to see. someone please get jeff and rio a cake, they deserve it.
i dont think this is much of a note bc maybe its just been a while since ive seen the first one, but god i love gwens design (as well as gwen herself. fuck i wish i had been that cool at 15, i was a loser) so much. i love all of the designs a lot, to be fair, and i love the mish-mashing of styles a lot in general. definitely had to be a bitch to make, fuck production for forcing these animators to work on crunch time.
mmm while i feel like a few sequences dragged a lil bit (not a ton--but i did get hit w the 'i feel like this could have been cut down a smidge' feeling two or three times, max), the movie is genuinely gorgeous to look at. but more importantly: the fucking MUSIC. there's certain things that i feel return from the first movie in the soundtrack, and i can't rly go into it all tht much without dropping spoilers, but ugh it was so good since those things were things that stood out a lot when watching the first
p much anything else i wanna talk about is a spoiler, so ill just leave it at tht!! theres a lot of interesting story beats tht i enjoyed and a couple things i saw coming (but predictability doesnt mean its bad--i'd personally say its good if sometimes the audience picks up on your clues ahead of time and feels satisfied rather than a 'ugh that was obvious' but thts a different convo probably), def a fun experience to sit through tho even with the fire alarm going off in the middle of it haha
anyway!!! solid movie. cant decide whether i like it more than the first, but its still a solid experience and id recommend it <3

5. A movie musical you like
is repo the genetic opera a "good" "movie." No. However I do own it and listen to the soundtrack pretty regularly. I also love the little shop of horrors movie I think it's hard to adapt a stage show to screen well but that one is such a classic and really captures the kind of campy 60s horror feel of the original movie. I think they should have kept the original ending tho.
6. A horror movie you like
So many. Literally what i have spent these past 4 years studying lol and I think I literally have a part of my about about horror movie recs. Videodrome and American Werewolf in London are always my top 2 tho <3
I also just saw Ju-On: The Grunge for the first time for my asian horror class a few weeks ago tho and I was really impressed by it and its non-chronological narrative, it felt super postmodern and artsy for what has now become kind of a mainstream film.
15. A movie ruined by the ending
I'm sure I have a whole list of these somewhere in my brain but one of the worst for me is the entire 3rd act of three thousand years of solitude, which genuinely ruined the rest of the movie for me. What started as a really visually evocative film about the power inherent in storytelling, with all these nested stories that connected to the romance between the two leads, ended up culminating in absolutely nothing in the most nonsensical and rushed third act I've ever seen. I'm still convinced something went wrong during production here because like how do you mess up that bad.
16. A trilogy/franchise you like
SAW SWEEP!!!!! Is it my favorite or objectively the best franchise of films no. but it is such an interesting franchise to study and think about. I love its weird intersecting and surprisingly in-depth lore and how the evolution of its traps reflects the evolution of our horror sensibilities. And I love how they keep making more of them I hope I'm on my deathbed watching saw 80.

I've started watching detectice conan, i'm close to the 200ep (which is NOTHING to this behemoth of an anime) and wanted to kinda share my thoughts about this series
I knew about it for a long time, and i also knew about the main theme, a youtuber i like used it for his intros (it was very jarring to listen to in the episodes at first, but now i'm jamming to it ) but never watched it. I only really got into the series as i got into Lupin the III (its also really fun)
I actually watched their second crossover movie first, didnt realize that until i got to the second part of the movie tho. I didnt know much about kid kaito too, so the intro of the movie was extra-confusing lmao but watching these movies made me want to watch the show and now here I am.
Gotta say, I absolutely love it, its so corny ! I genuinely love the cast, any episode that centers around Sonoko, Kogoro or Heiji is a treat, and of course Conan himself is really funny. Ran is fine, i'm not a big fan of her "damsel in distress" kind of role she has most of the time, but it does make the moments where she takes the initiative hype !
I also watched the episodes in my native language, french, and the cast is actually really good ! There's just Kogoro's voice i didnt like much at first but it grew on me. That being said, the movies have a different cast, and it gets kind of bad. Ran's voice is too high pitched to my liking. The absolute worst voice is Haibara's, its just. Bad. Its like a grown woman forcing her voice to be very high pitched, it sounds forced and annoying.
But really, the one thing that surprised me is the soundtrack ; its sooo good ! Ran theme is a bop, i listen to it from time to time. It makes the episodes so much better ! The only opening i like tho is Nazo, not a big fan of the rest of them so far.
The plot moves really slowly, but you know, I expected that. I like the mysteries, although there are episodes where i'm more invested and other where i just didnt care about whatever was happening. Now that I spotted the usual tropes, I'm tempted to make a bingo

Okay so I've been reading your answers, especially about the plays you write and the inspiration one, and I have to know, have you watch the tv show Black Sails? If not, I genuinely think you'll love it. Its a historic fiction prequel to Treasure Island, involving real history and the most amazing characterisation, with actually good queer and POC representation. It is very violent tho, so i understand if that's not for you.
I haven't. It was airing around the same time that I was researching my Anne Bonny/Mary Read play and I needed to keep distance from other media that portrayed the same historical figures (same reason I didn't play Assassin's Creed: Black Flag until recently).
I did try to watch it a few years ago, but there's a scene in the first season's third episode (I think? It was pretty early on) that was so intensely triggering for me, it ruined any interest I had in the show.
...but I do own the soundtrack! Bear McCreary's opening absolutely slaps. Best use of a hurdy-gurdy I've ever heard. 🤣
