i love being in higher education nearing the end of my degree and feeling highly educated (imagine) but i hate that it’s making me lose touch with what counts as common sense when it comes to my field and i hate that it’s making me sound almost snobby when i’m talking about my opinions

#it doesn't help that i'm in classics #like the most historically pretentious field ever #i complain about dead roman guys and pit them against each other bc it's a soap opera to me but i sound like some elitist over here like #anyways heres why modern educational latin sucks after doing classical latin so long'#in my defense all of the modern stuff ive seen has had english syntax which makes it harder to get used to actual historical syntax #its like taking something like japanese and only changing the words themselves instead of actual japanese #you cant do that #i get that its more about solidification of vocab and cases but it feels like its harder to read the grammar not in a classical structure #see i sound like a snob #i do however feel like classics while deeply fucked up from its foundations and most implementations is for everyone whos interested #something something understanding that its fucked doesnt mean you cant enjoy it #with classics it just means that you can talk at length about how different the concept of greece and rome that is used to support white #supremacy and actual greece and rome are from each other and deliver blows to the foundations of stupid bullshit that makes things bad today
