Ghost!Robin Part 4
Here's your next part of the Ghost!Robin fic for WIP Wednesday. I'm gonna start putting fic designation in the title field rather than WIP Wednesday because I think it makes it easier to read.
Also, everyone came out in numbers for last week's segment! Damn! Thank you and I'm glad so many of you are enjoying this little fic of mine. We'll probably get one more week of this before I go back to Bring Me Home, but it'll depend what I feel like. I want to rework some of what I have written next.
First, Previous
1.1k words + a 464 word Omake (cut scene)
----------
Tim asked more details on the specs of the PDA which Danny happily answered. The things he built with Tucker were always his favorite inventions.
“So are you in school to become an engineer or something?” asked Dick who’d gotten Damian calmed down and sitting. The boy had gotten his knife back and was spinning it in his hands. Bruce seemed to be fondly exacerbated by the scene. Robin had pulled out a ghostly weapon and was trying to copy Damian’s movements, though he wasn’t quite as adept.
Danny shook his head to Dick’s question. “Nah. Hard to get into engineering school when you fail high school.” Danny narrowed his eyes as Damian’s mouth opened, but Dick whispered in his ear again and the boy didn’t say anything.
“I ended up dropping out of high school and getting a GED,” said Tim. “It can work just as well.”
Robin was nodding along and pointing at himself, too. Had he died before he could complete his schooling, too?
“I’m sure. It’s just not a priority for me right now. I don’t need one for my job and I can’t become an astronaut because of my accident when I was fourteen.”
Dick was nodding, but Tim looked confused and asked, “Fourteen? I thought you had your accident when you were older?”
“Why would you think that?” Had he or Jazz made any reference to when his accident was? “No, it happened when I was fourteen. A few weeks before I started my freshman year of high school.
Before Tim could ask anything else, Steph called out from the other side of the room. “Did you say you wanted to be an astronaut? Totally awesome. What made you pick that?”
“I honestly don’t know why everyone doesn’t want to be astronauts! Space is so cool. We can learn so much about the universe by studying it in closer detail. And with how many aliens are now living at least part time on Earth, it only makes sense to explore and see what else might be out there.”
Bruce nodded at him. “I am sorry you aren’t able to become one.”
Danny just waved a hand in the air. “I came to terms with it a long time ago. And my current job is fine. Might not be what I would’ve chosen, but I’ve made it work for me.” Deciding he should change the subject before someone had the brilliant idea to ask more about his accident or job, he asked, “So what is for dinner, anyway? You’ve all talked about how amazing the food is, but what are we having?”
Someone tried to speak up, but Jason held up a hand. “I’m the one who helped Alfie cook. Demon-brat is vegetarian so we have a vegetarian curry. If you like meat, there’s a prime rib roast. Then a half dozen different sides—vegetables, rice, potatoes. Huge salad with all the fixings and a dozen different dressings to choose from. And dessert after.”
“Damn, that sounds amazing. I haven’t had a good home cooked meal in ages, so I’ve been looking forward to this.”
“Has your Grandpa been keeping you that busy?” asked Jazz.
“That, but also getting things in order to take this evening off. There’s just been a lot. I’m spending the night at yours, by the way.”
“I’d be offended if you didn’t.”
Danny knew he could rely on Jazz.
“Ooh, do you have any good stories about Jazz as a kid?” asked Jason.
Laughing, Danny said, “So many! But I don’t think we’ll be able to get to those tonight. I’ve a feeling you’ll be interested in other things by that point.” At his words, Robin grinned and pointed at himself. Danny gave him a slight nod to confirm that yes, they’d be talking about him.
Before Jason could ask for clarification, Alfred came in to announce dinner was ready.
Robin cheered and flew over to sit on Alfred’s shoulders, hand extended, to lead the way to the dinning room. Danny couldn’t hold back the chuckle and Jazz shot him a look which he ignored.
“There better be a place setting for you, Alfie!” called Jason as they followed.
“You made your opinion quite clear, Master Jason. And as I wish to meet your young lady and her brother as well, I have set myself a plate at the main table.”
Tim leaned over to whisper to Danny. “Alfred considers his role as butler very important. He rarely eats with the rest of us unless we join him in the kitchen.”
Danny nodded to show he understood, but had no idea how to actually reply to that. It seemed needlessly complicated.
Once they made it to the dining room, Danny grinned as Robin did a flip off of Alfred’s shoulders and landed sitting down on one of the place settings facing the associated chair. He bit his cheek to keep from laughing as Jason sat down at that same place. Jazz took a seat next to him and Danny sat to her other side. Dick ended up sitting next to him.
The scents of all the food wafting off the table made his mouth water and he closed his eyes just to breathe it in. “This smells amazing. Thanks Alfred. And Jason.”
Even Robin had moved to look over every dish, reaching out a hand to try and take something and sighing when he just phased through it.
Even Jazz looked a bit overwhelmed at the quantity of food. “This is so much effort. You didn’t have to do all this just for Danny and me.”
Bruce smiled at her. “It is so rare for all of us to be together for dinner so we make a spectacle of it any time it happens. And this is the first time Jason has ever brought anyone with him which makes it an even bigger event.”
Danny nudged her. “So, Jazz, what’s it like living with someone who can cook?”
Jason laughed. “Jazz isn’t allowed in the kitchen. You know, I caught her grabbing my chef’s knife before going into the fridge the other day!”
Danny furrowed his brow. “Of course she did. It’s a fridge.”
“Wait, is that a family trait? Why do you grab a knife to open the fridge? There’s gotta be a good story behind that.”
Before Danny could make the obvious statement regarding attacking food, Jazz elbowed him. “We’ll tell you later. It has to do with our parents and that’s a large topic and not one we should get into now.”
Before Danny could ask any questions about what the big deal was, Dick nudged him. “Which do you want—curry or beef?”
---------
Omake
Ignoring all of it, Danny shook his head and answered Dick. “Nah. Hard to get into college when you fail high school and are legally dead.”
Multiple people, including Jason, exclaimed at that statement and he looked to Jazz.
“Did Jazz not tell you about that? Our parents swear they saw my ghost and had me declared legally dead. I was missing at the time so the coroner agreed. Sighting the ghost of a missing person is all you need to confirm death in Amity.”
Under her breath, Jazz added, “You were only missing because they had you.”
Danny elbowed her and quietly chirped a Safe now.
Bruce was no longer smiling and was looking at Danny with narrowed eyes. “Your parents had you declared dead.”
“Yeah. It’s fine, though. I’ve an amazing doctor if I get into trouble. My grandfather is watching out for me. I’m financially stable. My partners are able to rent an apartment large enough for all three of us. I have other places to stay when I’m traveling. Honestly, it doesn’t impact my life all that much. Just means I’m not gonna go to college. And only reason I wanted to go to college was to be an astronaut, but my health makes that impossible.”
“Hn…” Bruce hummed.
And Danny had no idea what that meant, but Robin was now laughing, and Dick was exchanging grins with Tim, and Steph and Cass were whispering together. Damian was glaring at him even harder, blade hilt gripped in his hand. These people were strange.
Danny looked over at Jazz who shrugged. Jason was glaring at Bruce and said, “Don’t you dare.”
“Look, it’s really not a big deal. I know it’s kinda a messed up situation, but ghosts are generally treated really well in Amity. As well as any living human, at least. So long as you avoid the Guys in White and my parents that is. So outside of interactions with them, nothing has changed.”
“If you are ever in need of a place to stay or a meal or anything, you’ll have a room here,” offered Bruce.
Robin landed on Danny’s shoulders and was sending out happy-celebrate feelings. Steph handed Cass a few bills. Tim and Dick mimed giving each other fist bumps. Jason put his head in his hands and groaned. Duke was grinning at them all.
Damian half stood and said, “Father—!”
But Dick was at his side and pulling him back down to the couch with an arm around his shoulders, hand over his mouth, and whispering into his ear before he could do more than say the one word.
“Seriously, it’s not a big deal.” Trying to think of anyway to change the subject, he asked, “So what’s for dinner, anyway?”
And for the Tag List! (Which absolutely exploded this week. Holy shit.)

It's true, though. At least by the recipes I follow, every ingredient in shoga-tsukudani is also used in simmered salmon & daikon.
Tumblr media
I had more in this meal, though, so omake below the cut.
Tumblr media
Was looking for ohagi but most of the ohagi in the grocery store is huge, so I got these tiny ones which also had sakura-mochi style ingredients. Since one satsuma-imo lasts me forever, I've been experimenting with frozen satsuma-imo and onions for quicker miso soup, so I'll probably have more meals with the culinary equivalent of Rengoku-san photobombing the scene.
Tumblr media
Links to more details about these foods and/or my first attempts at making them:
Simmered Salmon & Daikon (shake-daikon) Ginger Simmered in Soy Sauce & Sugar (shouga-tsukudani) Sweet Potato Miso Soup (satsumaimo miso-shiru) Ohagi (you know... ohagi) Didn't actually analyze Cherry Blossom Rice Cakes (sakura-mochi), just ate a bunch of them with this adorable flower-viewing bentou.

blep blah, here have some old ass backrooms doodle content when the topic of "the beach episode" concept came up bluhp blooh brain nyooming but art hand isn't arting
i think what is super cute in modern fandom expression that I've seen is that in terms of making OCs or AUs is that sound seems to have a bigger role now than from what I remember when I was young. which I'm thinking has a lot to do with being able to clip audio easily or being able to make multi-track playlists whenever. y'all out here with reels of your art with voice claims and some of the most thoughtfully and artfully crafted soundtracks-- not even playlists, some of that shit is a straight up soundtrack level be real
89% tempted to try one of those shady "free" video/audio editing programs to make a LoFi chill beats study girl visualizer playlist with my iteration's boys ...
anyway gonna contemplate music headcanons for my iteration under the cut
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From Turtle Tracks fan letter section, Archie run, #24
so real quick, my iteration is literally just them chilling, hanging out, being together in their mid 30s- early 40s, and then sometimes flashing back to their child/teen years in the 90s because tl;dr i have miiiiiinor beef my childhood turtles weren't quite as "90s" as they "could have been" (nvm I'm cackling at the milennial pop culture refs in Mutant Mayhem drop kicking me back into my adolescence)
but mehehehehe, keeping that they listened to Public Enemy and The Jungle Brothers
and aside from Top 40 musicians of the time... I feel like being outsiders themselves, having to sneak around to explore and learn about people and what's above the sewers had them eavesdropping into a lot of nighttime venues and getting into the underground and various niche subculture scenes that daytime Top 40 didn't play.
cannot tell me the lights, thumping and noise from bands playing hardcore or house or hosting cyphers or raves didn't attract these curious and funky little green dudes like moths to a flame
... Leo definitely fell in deep with the gregorian chant phase, soothing sounds of nature fads , a big fan of Orbital and he fell into that electronic, house, trance, eurodance rabbit hole right after. he also got into Celtic folk music but when his brothers caught his ass studying Michael Flatley to incorporate Riverdance footwork into his ninjutsu he got teased so mercilessly that he took great care to hide listening to it... which just made his stealth better so joke's on them heehoo
Not to mention they're from New York City, the underground music scene is always bangin' no matter the decade; feel like rap and punk got a lot of tracks on their mix tapes back in the day
Raph getting into the metal scene in his own exploring the city trips, and then progressed to music with that boom bap sound (cuz baby boy needs a way to come down off those high intensity moods idk ijs)
Donnie... just the amalgamation of his brothers, he needs that background noise while he's chewing on schematics and protoype development, he would definitely have been the mixtape maker/recording bootlegger (along with Mikey)
Mikey absolutely tagged along with his brothers sometimes whenever they went to their spots for music, though he himself backflipped into ska 'cuz Mikey is always for the people
my tmnt  iteration (where everyone made it past their 20s, splinter’s alive just old, venus is here, and they deserve some goddamn respite and shenanigans)

Omg Vox I am so happy to find you on tumblr!
Holy smokes! 'the way it follows you home, the stories i never told' is my fav!
Are there any plans on writing an Omake/Deleted Scene/Sequel/Side Story/Companion piece on this scene? Making the suggestion a reality?
“So much for not making you come,” Gojou says, tone deceptively mild. “This isn’t on Yuuji though. Where’s all your lauded stamina, kid?”
“F’k you,” Satoru slurs.
“You couldn’t handle me, sweetheart.” Gojou pulls harder at his hair, forcing his neck into an uncomfortable arch,...
This scene is so hot!!!!!!! If not, that's ok! I'm enjoying the fantasy regardless!
Bye!🙈
Hello! Thank youuuu 🥰
I don't have any plans to further expand on that specific scene or fic, but I am an ardent fan of interdimensional/intertemporal selfcest ft. my main ship, so I've got other ideas featuring various combinations of multiple Gojous and Yuujis. So if you want to see some of my (rather explicit) notes for adult!Gojou fucking teen!Gojou, it's under the cut!
Premise:
Ambiguous Future AU where everyone's alive and nothing hurts. Yuuji's in his second year, maybe third. Freshly a god teen!Gojou pops into existence, sees goyuu is a thing and decides to monopolize Yuuji to mess with his older self, trips into genuine affection like a fool, and continues the monopoly, until adult!Gojou snaps and goes, if you're that desperate for dick, I'll give you some. Yuuji walks in on Satoru fucking impaled on Gojou's dick and enthusiastically joins in. Satoru is both turned on and betrayed, right until the double penetration kills his higher brain functions.
Some details:
Be warned that these are straight from my horny-fueled outline, so they're pretty rough notes:
Satoru’s antics from first spotting something between Gojou and Yuuji to Gojou snapping and bullying his way into Satoru’s ass.
Yuuji announcing his return to Gojou’s house: "Satoru-san, I’m home." Satoru freaks out, asks what he’s doing there, tries to wriggle off Gojou’s dick; unsuccessful. Yuuji comes in, freezes for a good few seconds, and Satoru blurts out something like "I can explain." Position: Gojou sitting on the edge of the bed with Satoru’s back to his chest, cock fully buried. Hands on his chest, plucking at the nipples.
Yuuji unfreezes to say “Satoru-san, what do you think you’re doing” and the tone is just complete exasperation. Satoru.exe stops working. Gojou’s just amused. Yuuji casually walking closer: “Did he bully you into this, Satoru-senpai? You look a little bullied.” Satoru.exe still isn’t working. Yuuji kisses him. That does not help. After, Gojou whining about Yuuji kissing Satoru first, and Yuuji casually bracing himself on Satoru’s chest/shoulders to lean in and ask Gojou whether he deserves a kiss after pulling something like this + “You didn’t even wait for me!” Gojou says he wouldn’t have had to go this far if Yuuji had just dragged Satoru to their bed when he started being a brat, but no, he was all about respect and restraint—“You’d think you’d know to handle me at this point.” Yuuji just says he doesn’t think Gojou’s handling it all that well either. He does kiss him though. Satoru’s 6E letting him see the easy and confidence of it crystal clear—Yuuji’s hand on Satoru’s jaw, thumb dipping into his mouth with his tongue; the bite that makes Gojou’s cock twitch inside Satoru. Satoru finally snaps out of it and asks what the hell is going on.
Yuuji kisses Satoru again. Then Gojou takes over. Yuuji really appreciates the show. Work up to Gojou offering Satoru to Yuuji: Gojou pulling his cock out and spreading Satoru open—not just his legs but his hole too. Satoru's protesting but the words dry out when he sees the way Yuuji's looking at his ass. Gojou asking if Yuuji wants to have a go—he doesn't mind it's sloppy seconds, does he? Yuuji very much doesn't, dipping in a couple of fingers to pretty much just grope Satoru inside, and if shouldn't feel like anything with how open he is from Gojou's dick, but Satoru feels like he's dying anyway. Yuuji takes his fingers out and says not yet, settles in for a show.
There's a hell of a lot more; I wasn't kidding about the double penetration.

Sindria's Prophet Ch 31 Omake
((This scene was cut from ch27-31; the flash back in it was originally cut from ch13. They are too funny to just leave on the cutting room floor, so I edited them to post as an omake. Also, they enhance scenes from ch34 onward, so I wanted to post it sooner rather than later. It's not a necessary scene though, or I would have made sure it was in the final cut. I place this final version of the scene during the start of chapter 31))
~POV Sinbad~ King Sinbad placed his elbows on his desk and his head on his interlocked fingers. "Ja'far, this isn't working."
"What isn't, Sin?" The official of the White Capricorn Tower was standing nearby, waiting for his King to finish a few documents.
"How can Mori make time to meet with the magicians and Spartos, but not talk to her own King?" She was locked in her room preparing for the Announcement, and refused to see anyone unless it was important -and apparently the King wasn't important enough.
Ja'far gave a flat rebuttal. "The whole reason you brought her here was to use her 'visions' to help reach our dream, wasn't it?" He eyed the paperwork the King was ignoring on his desk.
"Still," Sinbad sat up with a sigh. "I didn't expect Mori to be so thorough. Everyone who looks through that microscope is convinced and my people trust in me as their King." He had even told her as much days ago, but she insisted on providing these advancements more in case anything that had been used in her world to deny this science was used here. Sinbad fiddled with the papers on his desk while complaining. "I have a feeling that she's going to continue like this even after we've finished rebuilding to accommodate all of this new information." --- ~POV Ja'far~ That really did seem to be the case. There were many inventions Mori was going to recreate for them. Who knows how long that will take? "You can ask them to schedule regular meetings, you know? They agreed to the meeting with Spartos after all."
The King crossed his arms. "You clearly haven't realized what type of person Mori is. She responds much better to surprise encounters."
Since when? The Mori Ja'far had worked with the past week preferred having things scheduled and planned ahead of time. There was no way Sinbad didn't know that. "Why do you want to spend more time with her anyway? Mx. Mori is already giving her all for the citizens of Sindria." Ja'far asked even though he had a feeling he knew the answer.
Sin watched him for a moment and then looked towards the wall of windows. "Mori is my Prophet and yet it doesn't feel like I have her loyalty yet."
After the realization that Mori was helping Sin avoid the worst possible futures there was little doubt in her loyalty left. Sinbad was not after 'loyalty.' The others were right. The only people who didn't think Sinbad was falling in love with Mori were the two involved.
"Hey, Ja'far," Sinbad continued before his General was able to question him farther. "What do you think of moving my Beautiful Prophet into the Purple Leo Tower? It would be much easier to get a hold of her when she decides to stop working for the day. I wouldn't have to go as far to catch her."
Ja'far groaned. There was logic to what he said, but after nearly a month of watching Sinbad fixate on Mori it didn't sit the same. The fact that this was a development the other Generals saw coming, somehow, made it worse. --- (flashback) Ja'far remembered right after the rest of the Generals had first met Mori. Sin had just reminded them about his complete lack of desire for marriage in front of the guest Tower and started walking off. The Generals followed.
Hinahoho snorted a laugh. "Alright, I'll try to act shocked when you suggest moving her into the Purple Leo Tower as soon as she's better."
The King waved him off. "Mori is Sindria's Prophet now, and she has no home to return to. We should convince her to make Sindria her home and win her loyalty that way she will undeniably use her prophecies for Sindria. Moving her out of the guest tower might just happen in the future."
Pisti had a hand on her chin as she thought out loud, "She won't need her own bed though, will she?"
"Huh?"
The shortest General smirked. "Since she'll just end up sleeping in our King's bed every night anyway." She broke into laughter and half of the other Generals laughed with her. (flashback over) --- At least the King wasn't actually suggesting Mori sleep with him every night.
"Mx. Mori has barely been in Sindria for two weeks, and she was bedridden for half of it. We can't move someone into the Purple Leo Tower that no one knows. I don't know where we would put her room anyway."
"What if we converted the sitting room I brought her to last time? It's a good size, and it would be more convenient if her room was that close to mine." Sinbad smiled like he thought this was the perfect idea.
"Of course, not!"
"Why not?"
Ja'far fought down his frustration."There's no reason for her to be on the top floor. And besides, that room is used daily. Or did you forget your own routine?" That was the room the Call Girls waited in from night until morning for Sin to call them into his room which was practically right next door.
The King hummed. Sin really doesn't think sometimes; and involving Mori just makes it worse.
Even if she was to be moved into the Purple Leo Tower, why would he want Mori that close to him anyway? She flirted with Sin, but she also turned him down constantly. Moving her room nearby wasn't going to make it any more likely that she'd sleep with him. Sin was an idiot, but he was also a genius at getting his way. How far ahead was Sinbad planning with moving Mori into that room? If they got married, it would be extremely easy to connect their rooms later without having to move her again. Was that it? Had Sin realized his feelings and didn't say anything? But there was already a Queen's suite ready to be used someday...
Sin mumbled to himself, "I suppose it will be harder to seduce her if she sees the girls in person."
Yeah, no. Sin had 2 heads and he was not using the smart one.
((Heya everyone! I've decided that I didn't want to worry about drawing anything for this omake since I've got so much else I'm working on. The next arc of Sindria's Prophet is about half way written. The next ch of the Reverse Isekai AU is shaping up nicely. I also have been making progress on the Baby Mori AU, but I won't be able to post it until I get the first ch of the next arc posted. And lastly, I have a NSFW one shot for the Simpbad Collection that I'm finally at the art phase with. (I've got a few original projects I'm working on too)
I hope to get more posted soon :3 See you then))

i really need to ask about spider!teru au roulette! what is it about? :o
hiii thanks for asking!
back when au roulette was still going on, i had received "superhero au" as a prompt. ATSV had come out recently at the time, and given teru's superhero manga omake, i'm sure other people have created similar crossover or AU work too. this was going to be my personal take on adapting teru's general character arc to the setting, power system, and themes of spider man overall.
this went kind of long so i put the rest of the explanation and an excerpt under the cut.
i was working on a oneshot in which teru attempts to make a name for himself as the city's savior with his spider powers. he's doing stuff like filming his criminal takedowns, selling pictures of himself to the school paper, etc etc. he's eager to prove himself, and he gets involved with trying to take down a larger criminal syndicate on his own. as he gets deeper into it, he finds that someone else is onto the same cases, beating him to the scene or saving him at the last minute -- and he gets obsessed with the idea that he needs to take down this other challenger too. he needs to be The Guy, because if he isn't, what is he left with? that obsession takes a noticeable toll on his "flawless" image at school, catching the notice of his classmate mob, which makes him all the more paranoid. eventually, this all culminates in a three-way confrontation between teru, the criminal organization, and the anti-teru here -- which leads to some unfortunate and hair-razing realizations about the nature of the anti-teru's powers (perhaps some combination of ???% and venom, i never got far enough to write it out).
i never got around to finishing it because i broke my tailbone the same week i started it, but hopefully i'll get a chance to work on it again soon.
i do have a rough excerpt from mid-way through the story. at this point, teru has had his solo plans "ruined" by the appearance of the other spider for the second time and is starting to make a plan to confront him:

For the ship ask game: fyolai, siglai, inuokko
fyolai: ship it
What made you ship it?
nikolai's gushing about fyodor + the whole murder plan to free himself from those feelings specifically to get closer to his goal... mhmmm... and the hand-holding scene in meursault. cannot be convinced there isn't something going on.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
even me being an absolute pussy can enjoy some angsty stuff (says she, who teared up with that one hurt no comfort fic). i mean, you can have the angsty side and sprinkle it with fluff. and pls, things like the omake where fyodor plays along with nikolai's pun,,,,,,,,,,
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
why the angst when we already have the canon? (kidding) (but not much alksjdf).
siglai: ship it
What made you ship it?
nikolai picking sigma specifically as a partner in crime like... yeah, it may be about his ability but... the whole "you won't be truly free while fyodor's out there" when nikolai has his own freedom thing going on and sigma just wants a place to belong and be in peace, food for thought.
(also i'm not gonna pretend that with both fyolai and siglai you had influence, and i think it's beautiful.)
What are your favorite things about the ship?
it's usually more fluffy (again kidding but not much lakjsd). they get each other at least to a point, and pls,,,, nikolai calling sigma his beautiful assistant and sigma complaining but doing as he asked,,, mhmmm...
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
there's not enough siglai, basically.
inuokko: ship it
What made you ship it?
without knowing yuta yet, i was convinced the whole thing about him wanting to kill yuuji and using toge's arm being cut off as an argument was bcs he was mad and didn't know it had been sukuna. then i read vol 0 and omg,,, cuties,,,
What are your favorite things about the ship?
i like friends to lovers a lot, and even with the setting being what it is, they're just so cute... yuta gushing about how cool toge is and how much he had misunderstood him in the middle of a fucking mission, toge thinking about months about how to help yuta,,, also gojo basically saying "yeah inumaki-kun doesn't need help for this but go with him, watch and learn ;)" he was onto something fr.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
i don't get the takes about yuta being overly possesive/jealous when it comes to toge... i can totally buy him having some insecurities even when he's grown more confident since joining the school, but i think yuta getting jealous would involve more moping than aggression alksjdfl.

I wish the Bakugo family featured a bit more! I'd like to see more of their dynamic. I wholly believe little Katsuki was a genuine overachiever by nature, but were his parents too? Did they foster that in any way? Did they make an effort to make him so self-sufficient (proficient at cooking and cleaning, superorganized, etc.) from a young age or was that his own neurotic brand of rebellion? Does he share hobbies with his dad apart from hiking? I need moar bb!Kacchan crying and beating older kids
Tumblr media
(In many ways I sometimes wish the series cut other characters and was instead more about him, which would include his family...)
From what I have seen in extra content (TUM omakes, comments, the main manga), I have every reason to believe his family made an effort to support all of Katsuki's most socially-acceptable-productive and anal habits. However, I don't think they had to try that hard.
I think part of the reason Katsuki gets pissy when people give him instructions like "put away your shoes" or "clean this thing" or "get that adversary" is because Katsuki is already in the middle of doing it so he thinks it's patronizing and annoying when people tell him to do it. As a result, him saying "Don't tell me what to do" doubles as him saying, "Don't treat me like I'm fucking stupid! God, how much of a fuckwad do you think I am?!"
...But that could also be me projecting because that's the way I felt as a kid, and the way I still feel about some instruction even now.
As for Mitsuki and Masaru's feelings on their explosive bundle of joy, I get the feeling they were excited. When his quirk manifested, I'm sure Masaru had a comical moment of "oh no he's a bomb!" but it was only for laughs. I'm sure Mitsuki took charge of that situation with an iron grip and a slapping hand.
Besides. If Katsuki misbehaved in overt ways beyond just being generally rude and grumpy*, I'm pretty sure Mitsuki just beat the hell out of him. She smacks him all the time for the minor stuff, so I'm sure it was more extreme for major infractions about things that actually mattered. Dunno.
But my sneaking suspicion? Katsuki's ultimate punishment whenever he did something really bad was likely making one or both of his parents cry, tell him how disappointed or upset they were in him, and not give any obvious punishment to him at all. If the size of his self-loathing and internal guilt and grief for other events that happen in the series are any indication, they probably made him sit and stew without the obvious feedback of a whack on the back of the head.
I'm sure baby Katsuki had cute little new quirk hijinks that he'd be mortified if we found out about. I'm sure Izuku knows about them all and may even have photo evidence somewhere. And I'm sure that, as a kid, even at his snottiest and most nasty, he adored his parents and this was for better AND for worse in both directions. I just get that sense. In some of the extra content we see him, like, kinda bullying his dad when they play together and acting like he's sort of a fuddy-duddy, but if watching Katsuki interact with his friends and Izuku tells me anything, well.
I think Katsuki gets attached very quickly even if he acts mistrustful, distant, and like a shithead about it. I think if anything major (more major to the sports fest's critical onlookers, of which 1-A themselves were mostly blissfully unaware) happened to the other students of 1-A and his parents (lost job, public ridicule, major family shame) as a result of Katsuki being in the public eye in conjunction with All Might's retirement, I seriously wonder if he might've crawled into a hole and died. Like, at that point, apologizing to and protecting Izuku might've been the singular thing keeping him going if that happened.
As far as Katsuki's room goes, based on Horikoshi's description, I think I have a good idea of what it looks like - and I think I already pictured it correctly the first time that scene came up in the anime. It doesn't bother me that we don't see his room because - and I know this is going to sound weird - I think, given the nature of his relationship with the public and other people getting into his personal business, it is okay with me that he has some privacy even from us, the readers.
*the Deku-Bakugo situation in middle school is complicated, has different cultural connotations than in the west, and we don't know how much Mitsuki and Masaru did or did not know about it, so I'm not counting it here.

N-A-(N)-C-Y :)
HI I FUCKING FORGOR I HAD THIS IN MY INBOX LMAO anyways lets get right to it you fucking dork
N=NO: What's your biggest turn off?
hmm, gonna give a specific kink here and a general turn off down below since you sent it twice (im cackling youre so funny). for specific kinks id have to say anything involving hygiene, like scat or watersports, or in a similar but different direction, feet. not to say i have anything against feet (and i do enjoy the idea of being stepped on, having someones heel grinding against my crotch or vice versa), but so often people skimp on washing their damn feet properly. i mean. theres every chance that people who are Into Feet take better care of them? i dont know. i lost my train of thought
A=ANAL: Is anal more fun than frontal penetration?
wouldnt know, havent tried it! its on my list, but i sort of tried solo years ago and didnt prep well At All and was kind of turned off of it for a bit, but i want to try again properly sometime to get a better feel for it. seeing as i dont come pre-equipped with a prostate and i am also a huge fan of frontal penetration, i dont see myself coming to prefer it? but also i have been surprised before, so
N=NO: What's your biggest turn off? (Part TWO)
this one im gonna go more into personality and generals than specific kinks; would have to say a partner or person that does what they want for their own pleasure without checking in to see if it does anything/is good for their partner, unless specifically communicated as part of a scene (in which case it negates it anyways, seeing as that is what their partner wants). not necessarily in a nonconsensual way- more like, someone that penetrates their partner and focuses on getting off and trying to get them off that way, without stopping to ask if its enough, see if theres anything else they can do t omake the experience just as enjoyable. its the thoughtlessness; and when its from inexperience, not knowing that they Should, thats one thing, but if its just plain apathy, thats a whole different beast. its annoying
C=CUM: Turn on, turn off, or favorite?
id have to say turn on! the taste can be eh depending on the individual and their diet (and for this im considering both penile and vaginal ejaculate as 'cum'), but the experience itself, the mess, the physical evidence of their pleasure, is definitely a turn on
Y=YURI & YAOI: Are you into it? Does 2d get you going?
mmmm id have to say neutral? as with any type of media, depends on the story and quality. as a queer person myself, i definitely do gravitate towards queer media including queer porn, which yaoi and yuri qualify as, but then its a matter of 'was this created by queer people for queer people or by straight people for straight people'. obviously theres a lot of grey area in there too and theres no good way to determine, no one solid- you know, this is turning into a ramble about queer media that i didnt intend so im gonna cut myself off here whoops. anyways. short answer yeah sometimes lmao

(This isn’t gonna go into the Tanjirou analysis post since this is a lot more subjective and opinionated so I’ll mention it here lol)
One of the smaller nitpicks I have over Tanjirou is that he doesn’t act particularly brotherly. Considering that’s something he constantly refers to himself as, canon seems to miss the mark just barely enough for me to go ehhhh. If being an older brother made up so much of his personality, we would have seen this in the way he interacts with literally everyone his age or younger. Which does somewhat show? Sometimes? It falls short though.
The thing is, I only notice the lack of depth regarding this part of canon Tanjirou’s personality because I have to write him for the rewrite, and every scene I find myself subconsciously altering his actions to push that. The biggest example I can think of is the reworked coin tossing scene with Kanao, where I literally had him compare Kanao to Hanako in order to connect with her.
He has a tendency to play little games or make things into fun activities. He can compromise and solve conflicts extremely well. He has a clear threshold of bullshit he’s willing to take from others, and if they exceed it, he cuts them off and refuses to budge to their demands until they learn to say please or apologize or otherwise learn their lesson. He’s had five siblings (all of them expressing their neurodivergence differently) so he’s pretty much prepared for anything.
In canon, I can applaud his actions during the Drum House arc, but everywhere else is not as prevalent. In Pillar Training, he’s referred to as “Mom” in an omake, which actually has different connotations from being an “Older Brother” if that makes sense? I know that’s meant to be a joke but you know, it kinda says a lot they didn’t choose a joke based off his constantly brought up role in the story.

Can you please send Edward to therapy? 😭 he needs it after he lost all the ‘family’ he had left and having to witness Percy dying
Does emotional support military officers and doppelgängers of your bro, childhood bestie and also yourself count as therapy?
Because if so. Yes I can send him to therapy :)

Shiketsu!Izuku AU
With hints of possible krbk and tddk in the future. Mostly focuses on friendship between Izuku & Katsuki, as well as throwing the people around them for a loop with their dynamic.
(This is more of a one-shot idea… but I doubt I’d get around to actually writing this properly so I’m just gonna turn it into a post)
Also ft sassy Izuku who he grew up having a close relationship with Katsuki.
He’s more confident, a bit more blunt, and though still being a soft cheerful boy, he does adopt a few of Katsuki’s behaviours.
Not yet sure if Izuku is quirkless or if he has a non-physical quirk. And I’m undecided on why he’s in Shiketsu, but that’s not that important.
Set during the Provisional Exams.
Bakugo initially ignores everything around him, only interacting with his group of friends - mostly with Kirishima. But when Yoarashi approaches their group, his mood instantly changes. He asks where the other Shiketsu students are.
Yoarashi - obviously a bit confused at the question - points at the group making their way towards them.
1A shifts warily when a competitive grin spreads across Bakugo’s face and, before anyone could stop him, he launches towards the Shiketsu students with a loud scream of “DEKU!”
1A dreads the train-wreck about to happen, but one of the Shiketsu students dashes forward to meet Bakugo’s attack and deftly grabs his arm and flips him.
But Bakugo seems to be ready for this and shifts his body so he could off-balance the other student, but the latter pulls away before Bakugo could complete his move.
It all happens so fast that, by the time anyone moves to stop them, the exchange has already ended with the Shiketsu student using his own momentum to latch onto Bakugo’s back.
“Why can’t you ever greet me normally, Kacchan?” The boy asks with a pout.
Bakugo snorts and, much to his classmate’s surprise, he lets the guy cling to him as he walks back to get the case for his hero costume. “I had to make sure you weren’t slacking off or I would’ve beaten your ass to the ground.”
”The last time we sparred, I wasn’t the one beaten to the ground, Kacchan.”
“Then why don’t you get off my back and I’ll--!”
Before they could continue their conversation, however, Aizawa’s sharp tone cuts through the air. “Bakugo.”
Bakugo clicks his tongue, but the Shiketsu student lights up in recognition.
“Kacchan! Oh my All Might, Kacchan! Kacchan! Your teacher is Eraserhead!”
This seems to catch Aizawa off-guard - not many people knew him after all.
“I already told you that, dumbass.”
“But Kacchan! Why didn’t you get me an autograph?!”
“Fuck off. Ask him yourself.”
“Aha! So you’re the infamous Kacchan!” Yoarashi exclaims loudly. “Midoriya has told me about you!”
“Don’t call me that, you fucking extra!”
1A is just basically shocked to see Bakugo actually having a friend who was used to his attitude and takes his threats with a smile. A friend who seems to be the complete opposite of him.
Also imagine a little interaction where Midoriya sees Kirishima and greets him.
“You’re Kirishima-san! It’s so nice to finally meet you! Kacchan talks about you a lot!”
Kirishima perks up. “He does?”
“No I fucking don’t! Shut up!”
While waiting for the exam to start, some of 1A talk to Izuku and try to get to know him, intrigued by his relationship with the explosive member of their class. But the introductions are cut short as the examiner starts explaining the rules.
When the arena opens and examinees start to split up, Midoriya wishes them all luck before running off with his schoolmates.
“Good luck, UA! See you later, Kacchan! Be nice to your classmates.”
“Fuck you, Deku.” He yells while sending him the middle finger.
But he doesn’t get far when Midoriya calls him again.
"Hey Kacchan!” Bakugo turns around to see Midoriya on that noisy Shiketsu extra’s back, smiling angelically while sending him the rude gesture in return as they fly off. “Bye!”
The other Shiketsu students choke on air, staring at the green-haired boy in shock. "Midoriya!"
Several of 1A snicker at the angry scream that escapes the depths of hell that was their classmate’s throat.
“I like your friend, Bakugo.” Uraraka manages to say between giggles.
“Whatever.” Bakugo growls while stomping off, with Kirishima and Kaminari rushing after him.
Later, before the 2nd part of the exams, Todoroki happens to overhear Yoarashi and Midoriya talking - the topic being him. His fist clenches when he hears the former compare him to Endeavor. He starts to walk away when he picks up on Midoriya’s words.
“Todoroki-san isn’t Endeavor. Yoarashi-kun, if you’re gonna dislike him, dislike him for himself. Not because of his father.”
“But I do! He was rude during the recommendation test! Just like when Endeavor—"
“You’re comparing them again. You don’t have to bring up his father when you’re upset with Todoroki-san.” Midoriya sighs. “Really, Yoarashi-kun, I’ve heard people say ruder things to you, but you don’t bear grudges like this against them.”
He gives the taller student a look that was almost a mix between exasperation and admonishing. “Just... try not to let it influence you during the exam, okay Yoarashi-kun? You have a tendency to be unknowingly petty.”
Yoarashi splutters at the accusation but doesn’t refute it.
During the rescue portion of the exams when Gang Orca attacks. Yoarashi and Todoroki still argue.
Midoriya notices this and tries to intervene, but Gang Orca’s minions distract him from doing so. Thankfully, Bakugo, Kirishima, and Kaminari arrive at the scene.
Bakugo tells Kirishima and Kaminari to help in the evacuation. They ask what he’s planning, but he’s already off fighting the ‘villains’. They are momentarily frozen in surprise and awe when Bakugo and Midoriya seamlessly work together in fighting the hoard.
Then a flame tornado - courtesy of Inasa and Todoroki - rises around Gang Orca. It holds the hero at bay, but the tornado subsides quicker than expected. Bakugo and Midoriya take that opportunity to fight Gang Orca - their formidable teamwork impressing the hero.
But the timer soon goes off. After a bit of gushing (because of course he can’t help himself from fanboying a tiny bit), Midoriya approaches Yoarashi and Todoroki and gives them a look. With the way Yoarashi shamefully avoids his gaze, Izuku could guess what happened.
He sighs and approaches Todoroki to help him up - which surprises the two.
“Midoriya?” Yoarashi speaks up.
Midoriya ignores him. “Hey, Kacchan, sorry but can you help Yoarashi-kun up? I’ll take Todoroki-san.”
“Tsch... you owe me.”
When Bakugo has Yoarashi leaning against him, he grunts. “Congrats, airhead, whatever the fuck you did, you upset Deku.”
Yoarashi could do nothing but tuck his chin ruefully.
While Izuku takes Todoroki to the medics to get looked over, Todoroki breaks the silence.
“Did you mean what you said? About me not being my father?”
“Y-you heard that?”
Todoroki stares at him intensely, making Midoriya squirm a bit. “... well? Did you?”
“Oh, uhm, yeah... Endeavor-san is Endeavor-san and Todoroki-san is Todoroki-san. You’re your own person. It just seems unfair to dislike you because of your father.”
Todoroki jolts slightly, his voice going cold and defensive “What do you mean?”
Midoriya almost jumps at the change in his tone. “I mean, who Endeavor is isn’t who you are, and I don’t think people should base their judgement of you on who your father is or what he’s done before.”
Todoroki looks at Midoriya - his expression now unreadable, but there’s something in his eyes that seem contemplative.
“You’re strange.”
“Ah, sorry I—“
“I didn’t say it was a bad thing.”
“O-oh... thanks?”
°°°°°°°°°°°°°°
Just an omake/extra kind of thing: Todoroki approaching Bakugo before boarding their bus.
“Bakugo.”
“What do you want, half-and-half?”
“Your friend is interesting.”
“Ha?! Deku? The hell did he do this time?”
“He has some... intriguing opinions. I’d like to talk to him more. Can you get me in touch with him?”
“What the fuck?!”

i would love to hear more about your orihime thoughts! particularly on her characterization in fanfiction. what to do and what not to do. i love my girl, and i feel ya-- when an ichihime fic does her dirty, sometimes i'll try to slug it through to see if it gets better, but that's not really a guarantee. i love how you treat all the characters with such care, especially the karakura six. so please indulge us with more of your wonderful thoughts and brainworms!
Ahh, I love the main six so much, they’re such great characters and they all have really lovely interpersonal relationships with each other, so I’ll never get sick of talking about them lmao, but Orihime and Ichigo especially are two of my favorite characters and I think they’re just neat! I don’t want to be like,,,an authoritative voice on what people should or shouldn’t do because everyone has a different interpretation and the fun in fanfiction is having that creative freedom to do what you want, so do keep in mind these are my opinions and observations and in no way reflect any sort of scale on what is Objectively good.
TLDR: Me and my trashbag opinions under the cut ✨
I think one thing Kubo really excels at is writing Orihime with nuance, and some of the things he did with her really elevated my own view of what good characters can do in a story. He made so many mistakes with her, but reducing her to “Nice Girl, Big Boobs” was not one of them. The Hueco Mundo arc is really as much her arc as it is Ichigo’s, because it’s where she’s confronted with her own flaws and Kubo uses them as a baseline to develop her further in the next two arcs. Jealousy, weakness, dependence, stumbling over herself to stop Ichigo from getting hurt -- these were the four hoursemen of Orihime’s flaws early on and Kubo tackled every single one of them over the course of FB and TYBW arcs. Could he have done more for her? Sure. Am I happy with the screentime/focus we already got? Hell yes.
Now, I’ve read a lot of Orihime fics, from IchiOri, to TatsuHime to Ichi/Ruki, to RenHime, and even the less popular ones like ByaHime, Shuuhei x Hime, Shinji x Hime and RiruHime, and each ship tends to put different spotlight on her various canon traits, but for the sake of analysis, it’s generally agreed that she is 1) quirky/weird, 2) gentle/kind, 3) emotional and 4) a pacifist
The extent to which these traits are exaggerated usually depends on the ship. IchiOri writers like to work with her gentleness/quirkiness a lot as a complement to Ichigo’s own hardheadedness/rationality. In small doses, this works really well. Good IchiOri writers play on the goofy back-and-forth, light teasing dynamic that they have in canon where Ichigo plays the straight man to Orihime’s quirkiness, like the infamous Bread Scene, or Drainpipe scene, or the Post-battle Piggyback scene. In excess, you have the dreaded Little Blue Men. I don’t know who started this trend, but it’s seeped into the mainstream IH consciousness and there’s nothing we can do about it. The best kind of Orihime writing is when the writer embraces her weirdness in tandem with her intelligence. Orihime’s weird food, or her weird imagination or her weird jokes aren’t ironic because she’s a dumbass, they’re ironic because she’s generally very smart. She’s a Smart Dumbass. She scores cent per cent on her math exams but can’t think to use the stairs instead of flying down a drain pipe. She’s the kind of girl who would pour salt in her coffee on accident and then try to convince her friends she did it on purpose to gain extreme and hilarious reactions from them. I bring up IchiOri fics because they’re usually the ones who write this element of her character more, but it really applies to her in all pairings because she’s Like This with everyone. In canon, the other characters are exasperated by her but they don’t actually believe she’s stupid, just silly. In fanfic, characters think she’s serious, which has a way of painting her as very disconnected from reality/dumber than everyone else. A good rule of thumb to write her humorous elements would be to just emulate the atmosphere of a room when a friend makes a bad joke and you’re just Done With Their Audacity.
Orihime’s gentleness/kindness has its place and purpose in canon, too. Orihime isn’t forgiving to just about everyone. Think about how she treats Ulquiorra when he talks shit about Chad, vs how she treats Loly/Menoly when they talk about her. Think about her reaction when Ginjo was going to attack Ichigo vs when Grimmjow was choking her. Orihime isn’t forgiving to a fault, she just had really low self esteem in Hueco Mundo and had resigned herself to the possibility she might die. She only forgives enemies when they’re no longer a threat or when they’re on the literal verge of death and in need of closure. Orihime excels at reading between the lines for ‘what characters say‘ vs ‘what they actually mean’. This is why she’s good at reading closed-off characters like Ichigo, Uryu, and Riruka. The one time she fails to read someone is Urahara, but that was when she’d convinced herself she was useless, and no one really understands him, anyway, so who can blame her? TLDR: Orihime is tough and gentle and the nuance of writing her involves understanding what situations evoke her anger and what situations evoke her sympathy.
Ichi/Ruki fans & Non IchiOri fans like to play up her emotional aspect a lot, especially with how they deal with doing the legwork in making her move on from Ichigo and fall for the intended pairing instead. TatsuHime fics do this well-- very true to her character--where Orihime gravitates slowly from Ichigo to Tatsuki and no losses are borne to anyone, just as she would want. One thing I’m deadset on as an Orihime fan (and obviously, you’re free to disagree) is that she would never, ever consciously confess to Ichigo, regardless of whether her feelings are requited or not. I think this is why I have a hard time reading fics where she asks him out and he pity-dates her because a) she would never ask him out and b) she would know if he’s not into it because, like I said, she can read him really well. This is up to interpretation, but the reason I think so is because of how Kubo wrote her feelings for him in the manga.  If Orihime’s Five Lifetimes speech was supposed to be indicative of his feelings--requited or not-- for her, he would have been awake. Ichigo’s feelings for her have never been a factor in whether or not she loves him, because he’s just a good guy and she will always love his shonen protagonist ass. People tend to write her feelings for Ichigo as source of suffering, but the reality is that she likes being friends with him, and being by his side makes her happy. She doesn’t see her relationship with Ichigo as “just friends” because their friendship is so wholesome and complete in and of itself that there’s nothing “just” about it. Orihime would totally love reading fics where she’s evil, though, because she’s just Like That. Imagine if Kubo had done a breaking-the-fourth-wall omake with her, like they did in Deadpool. Peak meta comedy.
(Part 2)
Bonus:
I will forgive any IchiOri fic if they make Ichigo blush AT LEAST 2-3 times during,,,,you-know,,,,because that dude does not know what a cl*t is and you cannot convince me otherwise

hey I honestly love this story a lot and the drawings! how are the other chapters coming along !
I don't normally answer this type of question because then I get asked more and more which puts a lot of pressure on me HOWEVER I've been wanting to give everyone an update so I'll answer this time ;3c
The next chapter is pretty much done. It will act as final prep for the Announcement Day. I want to have more of said Announcement Day written before I post the next chapter (I also have original comics and commissions to do). The Announcement Day arc is probably going to be 4-5 chapters; I'm still drafting the 2nd. (It took me all of last year to figure out Mori's outfit for it & I really hope everyone ends up liking it.)
TBH I thought I would have gotten to this arc sooner -like ch20 lvl of sooner. It's making me better understand my writing style actually translates to written from comic form (I over estimated how many less chapters it would take to write instead of draw), and how I format stories. I had one point joked to a friend that I wouldn't get to the Sindria Arc until ch50, and I'm panicking that, that might actually be what's going to happen. My current plan is to try to get there around ch40. I had a bunch of things planned for between the Announcement Day and when Sinbad heads to the Kou Empire, but I'm gonna have to either turn a bunch into summaries, cut them out, or move them to a later point in time like I've had to do with a bunch of scenes already. I need to get better at handling timeskips. Every time I attempt one I end up realizing that there's no reason these characters should have taken this long to have this conversation if they see each other every day, so I end up erasing the timeskip 🙃
---
On top of Sindria's Prophet, I've started making some one shot omake things that will end up in a different collection (The Adventures of Simpbad) because idk how else to fit them. That will be where I fullfil the requests I've gotten for more intermission and AU chapters, and I'm posting this as a promise that I'm actually doing it. They won't be as edited or cleaned up as Sindria's Prophet, and not all of them will get art ... probably. Any chapters that do build off of each other or SP will have that marked for convenience. There will be a few NSFW too because I want to practice that, but I won't be posting those on Tumblr because of the current user agreement.
Some will also be my dabbles into figuring out what I'm going to do for the Adventures AU that a lot of people have asked for. Since Sindria's Prophet is a teleportation Isekai, the Adventures AU won't be. It was when le trying to write an Adventures AU that I ended up settling/deciding on Sindria's Prophet. I have plans for both Isekai and born in universe versions of Adventures AU as well as different starting points. So far it looks more drama heavy than SP, but I require comedy to live so it will still be in it. Since I'm not entirely sure how I want to handle it, I will be using reader feed back to decide on the final base.
---
All of this has actually gotten me a lot more comfortable with writing stories instead of only making comics. It's a lot faster. Scenes that take me a week to draw I get written in a day or 2. So I'm starting to play around with a few of my original stories in this format. There is one that absolutely can't transfer to written properly because it's a silent comic (no text anywhere) but that one's always been a bit different than my usual stuff anyway.
---
I hope that answered your question;;; I kinda just started rambling. I hope you're having a good day :3

Pardon me for the intrusion, but you're the only person I found who's still into CC and I have to ask: does the romantic aspect of Chrono's and Rosette's relationship seem lacking to you? Like I can see when Rosette starts to view him as a love interest (chapter 28), but I can't see when Chrono starts to view her as one. To me it feels like he only had an interested in Mary, and Rosette is just his very beloved friend; the kiss felt too sudden. I'm sorry, I just need a second opinion on this.
Okay I am so sorry I didn’t respond to this until now, I’ve mostly been using tumblr on my phone and using it to check a few blogs and occasionally the CC tag, and apparently tumblr doesn’t notify for asks on the mobile app? Or I’m not seeing it? Something. I have no idea how long you’ve been waiting for a response on this, so I’m really sorry! I hope you find this!
I think I need a reread of the manga at this point--a lot of the stuff I’m writing these days is going off of head canon which might not be 100% accurate anymore. So I’m just going to write this off the cuff. Gonna be a bit stream of consciousness! So this is definitely not a definitive opinion or even one I’ll always stand by, just how I personally feel in this particular moment.
So off the top of my head...
I think we see less things from Chrono’s point of view than from Rosette’s, which is part of what makes this tricky. This isn’t ALWAYS the case obviously (we see his sort of...PTSD dream flashback after Rizelle’s death, the flashback in volume 6 is basically from Chrono’s viewpoint since it’s mostly his memories, etc), but since one of the way the plot moves forward is the mystery of what happened in Chrono’s past usually the viewpoint is more centered around Rosette. I actually always assumed that Rosette was the only character that Moriyama would consider the protagonist until I saw that on a dust jacket for one of the books he said that BOTH Chrono and Rosette are (can’t remember which book, sorry! it was a fan translation).
Thinking about it, I think we see Chrono start to realize he has romantic feelings at the end of volume 6. I think that’s the first time he really, truly comes to accept his contract with Rosette as a good thing instead of just...the lesser of two evils, I guess? It’s when he goes “oh, yeah, I made the contract because otherwise she would’ve run off to solve the problem on her own, and I didn’t want to leave her alone.” I think that’s when he starts to really see Rosette as someone that’s on the same level of emotional maturity as him, too--earlier he occasionally teases her for being immature, but I think when Rosette tells him that she wants to share his pain, and Mary’s, that he sees how emotionally strong she is as a person and really respects that. Not that he didn’t see her as strong BEFORE, buuut like...he’d been so hesitant to share his past with Rosette until right then, and her response, I think, makes him realize how helpful having her support really is to him.
This isn’t really the same situation and is definitely my own personal reaction, but as I write this it makes me think of when I was dating my husband. I was initially terrified he was going to break up with me because I was bisexual--we both came from conservative Christian backgrounds and were homeschooled, and in the past he expressed homophobic sentiments--but I felt like I HAD to tell him because I couldn’t see myself in a long term relationship with someone I couldn’t be 100% honest with. His reaction when I told him was to immediately tell me he trusted me and cared about me, start to reconsider what he’d been raised to feel immediately, and he’s become one of my biggest advocates as I’ve come out to friends and family. Coming out to him was one of the best things I’ve ever done, but it was terrifying until I did. I can see Chrono having similar fears talking about his past with Rosette, and having a similar sense of relief and healing as soon as he realized how much Rosette is in his corner and how helpful having someone he can be open with actually is.
In the next chapter, Rosette holds Chrono’s hands to comfort him while they briefly talk about their current situation (Chrono being held in, uh, demon jail? and Rosette being taken off of her mission to find Joshua), then they both blush and get flustered when they realize what they’re doing. They babble small talk afterward while inner dialogue repeats Rosette’s promise to share Chrono’s pain, and Mary’s too. And then RIGHT AFTER is when Remington walks in and takes them to Aion’s old house on the beach so...that’s about it.
So I think the manga does show that, either right after he’s pulled out of his coma by Rosette or sometime in the aftermath, Chrono is starting to acknowledge that his feelings for Rosette might be more romantic. But it is VERY brief, because literally everything after that is two volumes of the big finale, taking place entirely over no more than 24 hours. Everything after that is rushing to tie up as many loose ends as possible--Fiore being Satella’s sister, saving Joshua, Joshua beginning to grapple with the gravity of what he’s done and been a part of and what’s been done to him, Aion and Chrono’s confrontation, the Order and the Sinner’s confrontation, Rosette’s near death experience, Aion’s motivations revealed, Chrono and Aion’s true relationship revealed, Azmaria finally coming into her own in terms of taking ownership of her powers, the culmination of Aion’s plans (and near-Apocalypse caused by it), the true nature of demons, the deaths of most of the Sinners, Shader’s defection, Joshua and Fiore’s relationship being somewhat resolved, Rosette and Chrono’s relationship being somewhat resolved...like holy shit there is SO. MUCH. THERE.
On top of that, I’ve got the Japanese reprints and while I can read basically no Japanese (HUGE GRAIN OF SALT INCOMING), I’ve pointed Google Translate at some of the omakes and from what I can tell, Moriyama talks in the omake in...volume 6, I think, that he basically had a whole other volume’s worth of story for the flashback that had to be cut! If I’m understanding it right, it’s like...from Remington’s perspective, and involves some Native American tribe or reservation that had connections to the Sinners, and the woman in charge of the orphanage Joshua and Rosette grew up in was a child living in a town nearby....
Basically, from what I can tell? Moriyama had a LOOOOOOOOT of background stuff he wanted to go into in the back half of Chrono Crusade that he wasn’t able to do for time reasons. I’m not sure if his editor gave him a deadline, or he realized it would be too meandering, or what exactly happened, but...have you ever heard the “iceberg” theory of writing? Basically, flesh out as much of the backstory as you can--know everything about the town your story is set in, the family of your protag and their relationships with them, what they eat for breakfast, just...every little minutia you can possibly think of, but most of that won’t get into your story. The audience will only see the tip of the iceberg, but knowing so much background about your setting and characters will help it feel more alive and inform your decisions as you write.
I think Moriyama had a fucking huge iceberg, basically, and I think he actually wanted to show more of that, but...couldn’t. So we get little pieces of art that reference this entire backstory for Satella we never see, and Aion, etc....that gets small nods but doesn’t make it into the manga.
And I think there’s a lot of things Moriyama wanted to give time to breathe in the manga but due to space limitations, couldn’t. So that’s why the second half of the manga literally takes place from Thanksgiving to sunrise on Christmas Day and is...the entire second half of the manga. He’s rushing to get in as much as possible while still letting the story flow as a story and sometimes...it’s not perfect.
So....I think unfortunately, yeah, one of the casualties of that is that we don’t get a huuuuuge amount of Chrono’s side of the relationship, because most of the moments that really shows that they’re heading in that direction is from Rosette’s POV. Other than the scene I already mentioned, I think you could argue that Chrono’s reaction to “the place that Chrono can go back to was decided 4 years ago!” might also be the first moment he starts to consider how important Rosette is to him, but that doesn’t HAVE to be romantic...Chrono’s reaction to her death (and then realizing there’s a chance to revive her) again emphasizes how important she is to him, but it doesn’t HAVE to be romantic...the kiss at the end is the only thing that really 100% says “Yes, this is romantic and not platonic” on his part. And...yeah. It feels a bit sudden. There’s some underlying hints before that but...I mean, I know about them because I’m obsessive about character growth and narrowed in on it in subsequent rereads, I’m not sure if it came through right away on my first read of the manga, and I even knew going into it that they were at least meant to be teased as a ship, so, yeah.
Also I briefly want to admit that as I’ve gotten older, the age gap bothers me a little more. Not enough for me to abandon the ship, just, you know, it’s something I acknowledge will turn some people off. I think Chrono, maturity-wise, is meant to be seen as...about 20. I think Moriyama mentions in one of the early omakes that that’s what he looks like in his unsealed form, we know that when he leaves Pandaemonium it’s right after his coming of age ceremony so he’s about what a demon would consider to be 18 in terms of emotional (and physical?) maturity, and especially since he’s been sleeping for 50 years since that period of his life he doesn’t have the experience that his age really indicates (which Aion blantantly points out near the end). So I’m not THAT bothered by it because I don’t think that Rosette and Chrono are actually that inequal in terms of emotional maturity but it’s still...there, and...I mean he met her when she was 12...so...yeah that’s a bit weird!!
I’ve just gotten to where I shrug my shoulders and go “look, every ship in Chrono Crusade has something problematic about it, if you’re going to be a fan of Chrono Crusade you’re probably going to have to grapple with the fact that it’s messy and human and nobody is 100% good or bad in the manga, and that’s part of what I like about it, so, that’s cool, but it’s probably not for everyone.” It’s actually one reason why I’m kinda OK with CC not being as popular as some of its contemporaries because...some of the anti-shipper stuff I’ve seen online...oh boy.
So...I guess in conclusion, I think there’s stuff there in the manga to build up the relationship a little bit, but a lot of it is from Rosette’s POV and most of it is kind of subtle. I wouldn’t be surprised if Moriyama had wanted to flesh it out more obviously in the manga but the second half is stuffed full of wrapping up character arcs and questions and loose ends so it just didn’t really have the time to get as much focus. I really like the ship a lot, but a lot of it comes from analysis of the characters and how they relate to each other rather than it just being...canon. I’m okay with that, I’m the sort of person that will ship characters that never even meet just because I think the dynamic might be cool, but...I’m not surprised that not everyone would be into it, either.
And now I kinda want to make...a series of posts analyising the different relationships that are...either canon or teased in canon, see how much they’re built up, etc. Because this post makes me think a lot about Joshua/Azmaria and how confused I was by them apparently being married in the epilogue on my first read, and only seeing the hints Moriyama hinted about them possibly being a couple in the manga on subsequent rereads (and even then HO BOY it’s so subtle it makes Chrono and Rosette look really in your face aaaaaa). BUT I HAVE RAMBLED ENOUGH FOR THIS POST and, again, I need a reread. Maybe soon....!!!!

Fanfic Appreciation Week Day 7: A Place Where I Can Breathe
Tumblr media
Yes, folks, I'm appreciating my own darn fanfic for the final day of Fanfic Appreciation Week because I worked really hard on it and it was a labor of love for/with one of my QPPs, my roommate, the man who got me into Sanders Sides: @\cadeorade-powercade (That's him in the aesthetic board)
Allow me to present the director's commentary for A Place Where I Can Breathe:
Content Warnings: All content warnings mentioned in the fic apply.
Chapter 1: I actually wrote this fairly late in the game. It's meant to serve as a prologue and orient the viewer in the universe, s opposed to staring on Chapter 2, which just throws the viewer in without context. I think it was a good choice, as it also allowed me to introduce the concept of the Sides having power focuses early on.
The Premise: Cade is a Virgil stan and he was getting frustrated looking for Virgil fic. He was finding a lot of stuff written without nuance by young authors, a sort of "by teenagers for teenagers" type deal. We are not teenagers, so we both have a hard time relating to that kind of teen angst fic, as we're not the target audience. So he asked me to write him a Virgil fic and we worked together to identify what plot he wanted, what the Mindscape looked like, and what quirks the Sides have. So a lot of this fic is quite gratuitous and self-indulgent
The Title: Lizzie McAlpine has a song called "Apple Pie" which includes the lyric "I've been running around trying to find a place where I can breathe." Apple Pie SCREAMS Moceit to me, and I had taken notice of the lyric and wanted to use it as the title for a Moceit fic. I didn't really have an idea beyond that, and when Cade asked me to write this fic, I realized it was actually perfect and summed up Virgil's inner struggle quite nicely. So cheers to "A Place Where I Can Breathe," the Moceit Fic That Wasn't
-Cade asked me specifically to include Virgil having a spider and I wrote nearly the whole fic without doing so, then had to go back and sprinkle some references in. I think I managed 2 total.
Chapter 2:
"Uh, how about I hold off on that until I actually see my room?" Virgil stared expectantly at Roman, who bounced on his toes. "Lead on, Macduff."
"That's not the line and you know it," Roman complained, but he turned to lead Virgil to his room. "It's ' lay on, Macduff,' and--"
-This fic was originally supposed to reach a climax with a confrontation between Remus and Roman, and "lay on, Macduff" would come back as a brick joke. Unfortunately, the original ending was a result of me getting tired and lazy, so I had to go back and fix it, and we lost the Roman-Remus confrontation.
It was hard for Virgil to not shudder at the sudden heat and weight on him. With his senses already open and taking in more information than his brain seemed to want to process, touch was an added stressor, more unwanted sensory input.
-Virgil being touch-averse is a direct shoutout to Cade, who is also touch-averse.
Roman had already transformed the living room: metallic streamers of purple and black stretched across the corners of the ceiling, and shiny balloons spelling out A-N-X-E-I-T-Y hovered above the TV.
-Upon first writing, Virgil had already given the upstairs crew his name, so the banner spelled out "VIRIGL" which is way funnier than "ANXEITY." But then his name reveal became a plot point so I had to go back and change it.
-Let! Virgil! Be! Mean!
-Virgil's line about hearing refrigerator noise when Roman talks is another shout-out to Cade, who has leveled that accusation at me
A small, cruel part of him protested at the idea that he would need special treatment and desperately wanted to throw it back in Patton's face. He wasn't a sweetheart, he wasn't a baby. He didn't need to crawl into a blanket fort with Dad just because he was a little stressed.
-Remus calls Janus "Janus Geminus" because I was tired and couldn't come up with a pun. "Geminus" is one of the Roman god Janus' epithets; another is "Pater" meaning "Father." That led to a conversation about Remus deliberately confusing Patton by calling Janus "Daddy," but I couldn't think of a clean way to fit the explanation into the narrative, so I stuck with "Geminus."
Chapter 3:
"There's nothing normal about that! " Roman stared in horror at the coffee massacre Virgil had orchestrated. What had once been a respectable (if not very tasty) cup of black coffee was now part of a 1:1 coffee to milk suspension, the liquid a tasteful shade of tan suitable for business casual trousers or a show-ready chihuahua.
-Cade is a certified Nightmare Man and came up with Virgil's horrifying coffee order after I asked him about it. Keep an eye out for Janus' equally horrifying coffee order later in the fic.
1) Shouts out the fact that Janus is canonically a Dostoevsky fan
Chapter 4:
Janus smiled at him. "Where reason fails, the Devil helps." He fussed with his gloves and straightened his capelet. "It's showtime."
-I fucking love Crime and Punishment. Look at me. Look at me. I fucking love Crime and Punishment. Janus' quoting Raskolnikov serves multiple purposes:
2) Lampshades the fact that Roman just conveniently happened to be alone in the living room, because I didn't want to waste time getting him there. That makes me, the author, the Devil
3) Foreshadows the impending disaster. When Raskolnikov says this line it is because he had planned to commit axe murder. The axe he was planning to steal had been moved, but he finds another, different axe to use. Raskolnikov messes up the murder and ends up killing an innocent witness in addition to his intended target. Janus messes up his manipulation attempt and ends up murdering Roman's self esteem
-I was going to include a reference to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (Remus' line "debauchery and vomit" was originally going to be "blood, love, and rhetoric") but I didn't because... Uh... Hm. Why didn't I do that. Maybe I just forgot about it???
-Roman is too stubborn to manipulate for long and that is a fact.
"I was pretty much done anyway," Remus said. "There's only so much debauchery and vomit you can fit into one story."
-Cade specifically ask me that nobody cry in this fic, but after I had Janus eviscerate Roman I knew he couldn't not cry a little. I kept it to a minimum because there's already a billion fucking fics about [literally any Side] crying on the shoulder of [literally any other Side] and it's really just not interesting to either of us.
-It didn't come up because it doesn't matter, but Thomas dreamed he was participating in the exact Dionysian orgy that took place in The Secret History because it's my fic and I said so.
Chapter 5:
He just sat back and watched and tugged at his hair while Janus spooned mound after mound of crisp white sugar into his mug and Virgil poured his customary eight fluid ounces of milk into his own mug.
-Cade strikes again. Virgil's coffee order is equal amounts milk to coffee; Janus' is equal parts sugar to coffee. He had asked me to include a scene where Roman catches Janus massacring his coffee and is appropriately horrified, but I uhh... Didn't write it. I still might include it as an omake someday.
-I imagine that Roman feels really strongly about dragons vs wyverns, and Remus just pretends to give a shit because he thinks it's funny to wind Roman up. Fortunately for me but unfortunately for my sense of realism in writing, I can't relate because I adore my sister and we get along perfectly almost 100% of the time.
"You shut us down every chance you get!" Remus said, baring his teeth. "How would you like it if your pens never wrote, hm? What would you do with all those thoughts in your head?"
-I do wish I had developed the concept of power focuses a bit more, established rules and such. Basically, Patton is always on the prowl for wrongthink and actively represses it, which in turn breaks or sabotages the Dark Sides' power focus.
Chapter 6: This chapter really should have been Janus and Roman but I was really tired and didn't want to bother with it. Plus, you know, Moceit. This chapter was meant to demonstrate how the characters would get along without Virgil nannying them. There's friction, but everyone is making a conscious, deliberate effort to get along because they love Virgil, and love is a series of choices you make.
I chose "Leo" as the answer for the answer to the crossword clue instead of "Virgo," because my other QPP is a Leo. She'll never read this fic, but I did it anyway because I love her. (Trivia: My sign is Virgo, so it was really a choice between shouting her out and shouting me out, and the last chapter is self-indulgent enough, thank you).
Chapter 7: I was gonna write a fic where all the Sides watched Cats the Musical because I was going through a phase. Then Cade requested this so I combined the two ideas. By this point I was fucking exhausted, and that's the only thing that saved you and the rest of the world from me writing the Sides riffing on the movie scene-by-scene. I could come up with snarky commentary for almost every, if not every single song from the movie.
Most notably, I cut a Patton-Remus interaction where Remus declares his love for Grizabella and Patton gets all staryy-eyed about Remus connecting with the idea of rising above rejection and being loved and accepted only for Remus to shoot him down and explain that he just likes that she got to die in a tire fire.
Other cut scenes include Janus quietly pretending not to go feral over Mister Mistoffelees, Patton full-on fucking sobbing over Grizabella and the kittens, and Logan experiencing a deep, soulful kinship with Munkustrap during Of The Awefull Battle of the Pekes and the Pollices (and henceforth introducing the phrase "like herding cats" into his regular vocabulary
