hi there !! i hope you're doing well :) ever since i started reading ur fics i've just been really impressed with how u keep the quality of ur content very consistent. do u take breaks in between writing each fic? i think u mentioned this in a previous post when u talked about editing fics, but i guess i'm wondering how u keep urself from being burnt out/if u get burnt out! i'm going thru a slump rn so i'd be curious to hear about ur experience!

Also please excuse how long this got, I have a lot of thoughts on this subject in particular!!

Personally yes, I do get burnt out, and I do find it very necessary to take breaks—from writing overall and from a fic if I'm having difficulties with it. In general, I try to write a little bit every day, but that’s not always possible, and there are times when that’s not the right thing to be doing.

If you were following me late last year, you may vaguely be aware that I disappeared for two months straight between December and February. Like, just let the queue run through and did not answer a single ask, post a single original thought, or even look at my ao3 comments. While I was gone I barely wrote a thing. I think at like 1.5 months into it, I started drafting the outline for subtle, but before that, I didn't do shit except focus on my personal life and hang out with my dog.

At that point I was just tired and I thought I could use a little recharging to get excited about writing again. I read a bunch of books and other people's fics, and reread a bunch of my old fave comfort ship fics. That break from my own work really helped me get inspired again. Since then I've been consciously trying to strike a balance between writing all the time and chilling/consuming the things that keep me inspired to write.

When it comes to taking a break from fics, I do that too. My Hawks fic lay low has been ongoing since December of last year, when I normally finish fics in under a month. I actually really love this fic, but I got a little frustrated with some plot holes and then again with the pressure I was putting on myself to characterize him (like, relax, Andie it's a fuckin fanfic) so that's been on hiatus like multiple times even though we're only three chapters in.

I think it was important, though, for me personally to take a step back from it until I had the energy to address the things that I wanted to, and until I was excited to write it again. I'm actually finally working on chapter 4 (!!!), but it really took a long time to let that bad boy marinate, and I hope the fic will be better for it.

And I did that with statistically significant as well. This was more due to my workload at my job at the time, and I worked on this one over the course of five months when prior to that, I had been finishing fics in 1-2 weeks. But slowing down and writing this fic over like ten times the amount of time it took me to write other fics was a really good learning experience for me. It taught me that it's totally fine to step away from a fic for multiple months, and that you can always come back and finish it later.

I think that's also going to be the case with the new Deku fic, and I'm happy I already know it's completely okay to take my time. I'm sure there will be new wrenches that life throws into my path, and I'll have to get hit by those and figure out how to get back up and learn to duck next time lol.

Anyway, I definitely get where you are coming from, and if I've learned anything in the year and a half I have been writing it’s that it's totally normal to hit slumps, be they long or short, fic-specific or related to writing overall. Burn-out/slumps are actually not a big deal at all if you don't psych yourself out about them.

I feel like every time I'm asked advice on anything I say this (but I mean it!!): listen to yourself. You know best what you need. If you don't feel like you have the brain power for writing right now?? You're definitely right, and you should take some time away to chill, just consume things without producing, or do other stuff in life that makes you feel good.

If you're two months into not writing and you get excited about a project outside of the one you abandoned?? There's probably a reason. Work on that instead, and maybe let your enthusiasm for that project remind you of what you liked about the other one you put down.

And if that enthusiasm doesn't return? Then let the damn thing sit until it does. There are literally writers I follow who stepped away from fics for YEARS, only to come back and post a new chapter like half a decade later. They are always, always better for it.

So literally just listen to what you are telling yourself, and ride out the slump however you need to. Please try your best not to feel guilty for it, or think that it is any reflection on you or your work. They're just a natural part of the process, and honestly you will be the better for having had this experience.

i don’t think i’ll change my url anytime in the future because it would be very annoying with all the broken links. i personally hate it when blogs have broken links so i don’t want to add to the problem. also, an0nymousghost is such a nice simblr url, it’s actually got a connection to the actual game. it is already confusing enough with the an0nymousghost/celeschul thing, but that’s mainly just because an0nymousghost is a long url and doesn’t really fit on package titles or thumbnails

8. who is your favorite gameplay blog? i have a personal blog and on there i only follow my faves: @leafykii, solarlemonade, ratboysims, @simprising, myshunos, @aridridge, @whimsyblue.

14. who is your current favorite sim? i said the fae sisters for my other post but i really like noelle’s husband claye! i think my female sims are always wayyy more attractive than my male sims, but claye might pull in front of noelle tbh. he looks much better with the emerald eyes (the cartoony ones)

also i consider all my sims to be good people, and claye’s kindness comes from him always taking care of leila and israel because noelle is off at work and such. oh and noelle’s way more...experienced than him when it comes to relationships

15. who is your current favorite sim that is not by you? no one really comes to mind, i haven’t been focused on like one specific sim lately

On AO3? 3. In general? 4 or 5 i think? I currently write for Glee and Marvel on my AO3 (there's also one Yuri On Ice fic) and I've previously written (and published) for Harry Potter on FF.Net. I do also have a few outlines/ideas for Merlin fics floating around my google docs but I've never posted any, and I used to write Twilight fics back in the day.

Ain't No Grave (Can Keep My Body Down) Book Cover with 222 kudos (Marvel published 2016) --A book cover for a popular Stucky fic

A Punch In The Face with 101 kudos (Marvel published 2014) --A Young Avengers drabble of sorts, Teddy/Billy meet cute

Express Your Love with 81 kudos (Marvel published 2014) --I cannot remember what this is, I think it's Stony? Something about Tony never saying 'I Love You' to steve but instead showing his love through actions?

In A Previous Life with 77 kudos (Marvel published 2014) --A drabble of sorts. Billy and Tommy talk to Wanda about their life with her before they were reincarnated.

Putting a Punching Bag in the Workshop was Tony's Best Idea Ever with 64 kudos (Marvel published 2014) --Basically what it says on the tin. Stony. Tony is distracted by Steve's arse as he boxes.

Annoyingly these are all fics I'm not that proud of, but they're older so the kudos amounts make sense i guess 🙄 the next most Kudos'd is one I am proud of though - “You took EVERYTHING from me.” with 58 Kudos (2019) - Basically a little oneshot of what I thought could have happened in the 5 years everyone was dusted and how I thought they might have introduced Billy and Tommy into the MCU, it was going to create a whole 'verse but then we got confirmation on things like Kate Bishop and Cassie Lang and Spiderman Far From Home came out and I dropped the ideas. But I still like this fic.

do you respond to comments, why or why not?

most of the time, yes, though sometimes I leave them sitting for too long and then feel awkward about replying to them and i don't (*cough* most of my comments on WTNY(ibwfy) *cough*)

what’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

probably In Paris With You which I'd forgotten about until scrolling through my fics! I wrote this, orginally, way back in like... 2011 based on a poem of the same name that got stuck in my head as i studied it for my English GCSE. but it's been updated and changed like 3 times since then.

Also my fic As long as I'm here as I am, so are you is rather angsty. Basically Kurt is listening to Ben Platt's album Sing to Me Instead and one song reminds him of Finn. (because it reminded me of them)

do you write crossovers? if so what is the craziest one you’ve written?

I've never written a crossover, though I think I once toyed around with some sort of Harry Potter crossover that never made the light of day, I can't remember what it was with though... maybe Merlin?

have you ever received hate on a fic?

not on AO3! But I did have someone call my OC in One More New Direction a Mary Sue on FF.net which wasn't nice, and someone else said they hated my characterisation of Mercedes in a chapter which was weird because Mercedes wasn't even in the chapter it was just my OC talking about her and her impression of her.

do you write smut? if so what kind?

I've tried, multiple times, in my 10+ years of fic writing, but i just can't do it. Maybe it's because I'm Asexual? it just always feels weird even after I've read smut as, like, revision. I feel like a lot of the characters are, like, ace by proxy because i don't know how to write characters being motivated by sex.

have you ever had a fic stolen?

not that I remember? I vaguely remember being a Beta for someone like 10 years ago though.

what’s your all time favourite ship?

I honestly don't know! I've definately written mostly Klaine, but I'm such a multishipper that I have no clue. I'm really loving writing Hevans rn mostly because we are lacking Hevans content which is criminal. actually, fun fact, my fic Welcome To New York (it's been waiting for you) was originally going to be Klaine, but as i was writing the outline I fell back into the Hevans hole and decided to switch it up. I'm glad i did because it would have gotten nowhere as a Klaine fic!

what’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

If i don't think I'll finish something I don't post it. I have a graveyard of fics half drafted.

what are your writing strengths?

I honestly don't know. I like writing dialogue and I know I'm good at portraying something with a small amount of words but you'll have to ask my readers 😊 (in fact, if you've read my stuff please let me know what you think my strengths are! I'm honestly curious!)

what are your writing weaknesses?

I'm terrible at stretching a scene into something bigger if it warrents it. Like i said I'm good at portraying something with few words but sometimes I feel like that throws the pacing off. I use a lot of paragraphs because of that, to make the reader pause and reflect until the next line or to show that the character is pausing and reflecting. idk man. I also hate writing dates, which is annoying because WYNY(ibwfy) is mostly dates. I've been on one in my life and it was shit so i have no idea how to write one lol.

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think that, unless you don't want the reader to know what is being said or the words used are obvious in context, that you should write it in english EG: --"Merci!" Kurt said.-- is fine but if you want to write something longer I would do something like --"hello my name is Kurt Hummel and I love scarfs" Kurt said in french-- or something, it depends on the context.

Actually, going back to In Paris With You. Kurt is french in that, and it's from Blaine's POV so when Kurt speaks french it's in french with Blaine translating what he can in the narration. He's not meant to be able to understand Kurt perfectly, so the audience doesn't either. But if I was writing, say, Kurt and Sebastian talking to each other in French from Kurt's POV I'd write it in english so that audience can also understand that Kurt understands.

what was the first fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter. definately Harry Potter! It was how i got into fanfiction, and how i got into glee <3 JKR is a horrible person, but her books - and especially the fandom surrounding them - mean a lot to me.

what’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

I have no idea. I'm really liking my Love and Friendship series right now, and I love One More New Direction because it got me through - is getting me through - this crazy couple of years. so probably them? I also really love (that makes you) The Scarlet Witch which is kind of like a character analysis of Wanda that I wrote after watching WandaVision.

Where you post: AO3. I’ve posted some drabbles and ficlets here on Tumblr as well but most of them are one AO3 as well.

Most Popular One-shot: Somewhere I’ve Never Been, if you count fics written by myself only. It’s been a good while since I wrote that now, but I’m quite fond of it still. (Something Blue that I co-wrote with P has slightly more kudos though ;))

Most Popular Multichap: It’s still On Call, which was the first fic I wrote for this fandom (and that I admittedly I haven’t re-read since it was published). When it comes to Swedish stories it’s by far the Christmas calendar I wrote with @modestytreehouse, Snön ligger vit på taken. Ah, that was fun to write!

Favorite story you’ve written so far: Can I say a WIP? Because, the story I’m co-writing with @ghostcat3000 has good potential to become my favorite. I really, really like that story. It’s also gonna be by far the longest fic I’ve ever written or co-written. For already published stories, I think All I Ever Wanted probably still is my favorite. The idea of a silent retreat AU just appeared from out of nowhere in my head and then I beat it into my laptop during the course of a week. A fic that kinda wrote itself, lol, and I really like how it turned out.

Fic you were nervous to post: Definitely On Call. Since it was my first fic in the fandom I was kinda unsure about the reception, but people were really nice about it. I’m rarely nervous about posting stuff anymore ;)

How do you choose your titles: I agonize for weeks and then it just appears on me when I’m in the shower or in the grocery store.

Do you outline: Absolutely. Even more so while co-writing. If not on paper then in my head or in chat.

Complete: All my 42 SKAM fics are marked as complete, except for a collection of Tumblr prompts (that might have been better suited as a series, tbh).

I almost always complete my chaptered fics before posting them—I know I’d get stressed out if I didn’t. Sometimes I have the epilogue or some editing on the final chapter left when I start posting, but that’s it. Being in control of processes is my jam ha ha.

Also, new ideas and details are bound to emerge during writing, things I want to plant in earlier chapters as I get to the end. Plus I like having the overview of everything before I start posting, so it’s clear to me where the story’s going and what I want to tell.

In progress: See above. The story I’m co-writing with Ghostcat isn’t finished yet, but I’d say we’re roughly 4/5 in. It is LOOOOOONG my dudes and tbh...we started it over a year ago. (Since I’m that kind of person I just had to check and...yup. The first doc was created on October 11th, 2019. Jesus Christ). It’s definitely getting there now though—you should be able to except something fairly soon (in the perspective of over a year, that is, hahaha).

There’s also a draft or two of shorter thingies in my docs that aren’t completed but might see the light of day some time. The co-write mentioned above is the one I’m actively working on rn though.

Coming soon/not yet started: I’m one of the mods for SKAM Big Bang 2021, so that’s definitely going to happen. I have a few ideas but nothing decided yet ;)

Prompts?: Sure! I do like to have spin something out of a given subject or line of dialogue. Just send me one. (Can’t promise I’ll have time to write it though. Life and writing...a combination that doesn’t always add up, lol).

What song are you listening to right now? I turned off my Spotify like 2 minutes ago because it was interfering with my focus on another survey (which I ultimately saved in my drafts to take for another time lol) but the last song I played was Always in My Head by Coldplay.

If you could do anything right now, what would it be? I wish I can do some arts and crafts right now, honestly. I have a 4-day break thanks to Holy Week and I have no clue how to spend it. I don’t feel like embroidering at the moment; buying art kits online right now would be useless because they’d most definitely arrive after my break; and the arts I do have rn were bought by Gab and I have no intention to pull them back out anymore.

Are there any words that you just absolutely hate? I don’t really like the word fluids, but I get why it’s sometimes necessary. Gunk can also be icky depending on the context.

Are you hiding something from someone? Yes.

Have you ever been looking for something and it was already in your hand? It was either in my hand or I was already wearing it, yeah happens a lot.

Is there anything about you that not many people know? Probably. I don’t know how much people know about me.

Who was the last person you commented on MySpace? I’ll use Facebook for this instead; it was Clarisa, an old friend of mine from high school. I shared a post from her small business’ social media page and she commented basically saying thank you.

Is the last person you texted your friend? No, I only use text for work purposes now. And actually, the last person I texted is this super popular local influencer, as in millions of followers and goes viral every week levels of big. I was honestly surprised they returned my text, and even though they had to decline the thing I was pitching for them, I felt starstruck for like 5 seconds haha.

Have you ever seen someone you knew and purposely avoided them? This has happened many times. And for a variety of reasons, too; it can be because I don’t like them, can be because I know of them but not close enough with them to say hi, or just because I don’t feel like talking that day, etc.

Have you been to the mall in the last 2 weeks? Nah, it’s been around 3 weeks to about a month, I think. Shortly after that Covid cases began to surge again and now we’re stuck in the same community quarantine imposed this time last year while the country gets 10,000 cases a day.

What was the last movie you saw? I can’t remember the last movie I watched all the way through to the end; but I looked up and watched the final scene from Portrait of a Lady on Fire last night because I wanted to feel things.

What was the last song you listened to? See first question.

What do you like best about yourself? Continued from this afternoon. I really like how I’ve always managed to pull and claw myself out successfully from any terrible situation. There’s been a lot that I’ve been through and I love myself a whole lot more for being able to survive everything.

How long until your next birthday? 20 days.

Are you mad at anyone right now? There’s resentment perpetually brewing towards one person in particular, but I keep it tucked away at the back of my head.

What was the last book you read? Not sure, probably a memoir of some sort.

Do you like summer? I hate it.

Are you single or taken? Single.

Have you ever kissed someone with braces? Yes, for a time. It was very tricky lol, but fortunately there were never any accidents.

If you could change your eye color, would you? No, I think my current one suits me already.

Do you buy songs on iTunes? I never did. If I wanted to update my iTunes, I’d go to YouTube and look for the song I wish to add, convert it to MP3 on some third-party site, then upload it to my iTunes once it’s finished downloading. And then I’ll get the album cover and other details from Wikipedia to make it look really legit lol.

Are you overly sensitive sometimes? Yeah I am pretty sensitive.

Do you smile at people you don't know? Only whenever I’m with one of my dogs because they’d usually want to pet them, especially Cooper. Otherwise there’s really no reason to smile and say hi to everyone I come across; that’s not a common practice here and people usually like to keep to themselves.

Do you feel guilty right now? No reason to be.

Have you ever had a crush that you tried to stop having? Sure.

Have you heard of the band Nina May? I don’t think so. It doesn’t ring a bell.

Do you think long distance relationships are worth it? It can be, given the right amount of effort and commitment put into it.

Do you tend to judge people? Only if they make a Karen-esque scene in public. I understand people have bad days sometimes and that’s fine, but I won’t hesitate to judge someone who consistently berates service staff, makes side comments at a restaurant, etc.

Valentines Day: Love it or hate it? I don’t mind it. I would celebrate it too; I’d just keep the festivities lowkey, like having dinner at home or having an unconventional date. Going with the rest of the wave is exhausting – most restaurants are fully booked and it usually ruins the vibe.

Are you American? No, thank you for asking first.

Have you ever been made fun of for being weird? Probably while I wasn’t looking.

Who do you want to see in concert? Beyoncé is at the top of my list. Then Paramore, over and over again. It would be neat to watch a Hozier gig too.

Do you play any sports? Table tennis.

Are your parents together or divorced? They’ve been together for 28 years.

Do you prefer black and white or color photographs? Color.

Do you eat breakfast? Only during weekends. I’m usually too busy during weekday mornings to be able to fix myself a plate.

Do you still trick or treat? Not anymore, but I’d be game if any of my friend groups wanted to.

Do you use metric or imperial? I use metric in most contexts but because of wrestling, I got used to using pounds for weight.

Have you ever skipped class? Definitely many times during college. I was cautious in high school though.

i’ll try!! :]

first of all, go to https://carrd.co/. that’s a given.

i’m not experienced with designing websites from scratch, so i generally choose a starting point to work off of. i suppose it doesn’t matter too much which template you choose;

the important thing is that the site has buttons of some kind, so one could go between different pages (i recommend clicking on the ‘sectioned’ category of templates for this. my current carrd uses the template second from the top on the right, which you can see a demo of here)

once you’ve chosen a template, you can go from there; underneath each page divider (see the ones titled #work or #about in the dashed lines) is its corresponding page. the page divider tells the website which page is which, so when you click on the button for it, it takes you to the right place.

and more on buttons - you might not see the buttons straight away, even though in the demo they were right underneath the text. this is because they’re sectioned off to a footer beneath the text (scroll all the way down to see them); this makes it so no matter which page of your carrd you’re on, those buttons will appear below everything else.

to make it easier for yourself to move around on your page, you’ll want to label your buttons how you want them. click on the buttons to be able to change them - when you click on ‘home’ in the menu on the left, for example, you’ll see how the label is ‘home’ and the url is ‘#home’. that url links to its corresponding divider - so clicking on the home button, one your site is up and running, would bring you to the page under the ‘#home’ divider. for a button to work, your buttons’ urls have to match those of the dividers (otherwise, your button can’t take you anywhere!)

let’s say you want 5 pages to your carrd: the main page, an about section, a section on some of your interests, a section on kins, and a section with your contacts. but there are only 4 buttons, and thus only 4 page dividers! how do you add another? good question! you see that little + button on the menu at the top? click the button labeled ‘# control’ to add a page divider. it will automatically go to the bottom of the site, so you should drag and drop it to where you want your next page to be. then you can change the name of that page using the ‘name’ section of the menu - it should be labeled as something like ‘section05′ as default, but you can change that label, which is the section’s url, to anything you want. you can change any existing page dividers’ names to whatever you want as well, so they match what you need!

but remember, if you’re changing the urls of the page dividers, remember to also change the buttons’ urls to match. now that you’ve added a new page section to your site, you’re gonna want to add a button for it, so you can access it! to do that, click on your buttons, go to the menu and click ‘add’ to add a button. now you can change the url to the url of your new page divider and change the label to whatever you want! (note: you can see all of your urls by clicking the little ‘#’ button on the top menu)

once you have every page sectioned off for your site, it’s time for the fun part - adding images and text! basically everything you add is through the + button on the top menu. there are a variety of things you can add to make your site great!

most things automatically show up below the footer once you’ve created them, so you’ll need to drag and drop to where you want it to go.

for text, you’ll automatically see a text box in the left menu. there is where you type the text you want to add. but if you want to change the color, font, or any other cosmetic change, then click the button that looks like a paintbrush on the top of the left menu. that button is for appearances (the button you were on before has a big letter ‘a’ on it).

do you want all the text on your site to be the same color, font, and size? it would be annoying to set all of that manually. but fear not, as you can set a style! first choose an appearance for your current text. i’m setting my text to a nice pink, with a poppins font, size 2 weight, etc. i want all my text to look the same way, so once i’ve set my current text, i click on the dropdown menu next to the word ‘appearance’ on the left menu; it should say something like (none) on it.

once you’ve clicked, you can press ‘add style’ - the current appearance of your text is saved, so if you want to have any other text you have look like it, go into the appearance tab of that text, click the same dropdown menu and click the style you just made (it is automatically titled ‘new style’, but you can choose the little pencil button to change the name if you want) to have your new text have the same style!

styles can also be used for elements like images - i actually recommend setting the appearance to the image before you upload it, in some cases; you want to make sure that you won’t have to crop the image to fit, let’s say a circle, if you didn’t want your image to be a circle in the first place. but, of course, you can still edit the appearance after you’ve uploaded. you can add corner rounding, or change the height, etc. if you want all of your images to have the same format (the same shape, for example), you can set a style for it as well.

one thing that took me a while to find out is to have two columns of images next to each other! if you’re like me, with my cringy ol’ kinlists, you don’t want to have a single trailing column of images going down your page; it’s very inefficient. to add columns, you’ll have to add a new kind of element - a container!

click the + button and click ‘container’ (the icon should be a little box). you can use containers for other things, but i use them for images. there should be a dropdown menu for ‘type’ on the left menu, and there you should choose ‘columns’; you should see a box with two little boxes inside, each one with the label ‘empty’. you can drag anything into these boxes really, even text, but i find them most useful for images.

to add a row beneath, just drag whatever image you want to below one of the images in the top row - when you drag it, there should be a little teal line under the image you’re placing it beneath.

want 3 columns instead of 2? how about 4 columns? click on the container (try not to click on one of the things inside, click on the space around) and click ‘add’ on the left menu; now there should be 3 columns. you can always add more if you like! you can also change the width of the column - maybe the left column is 75% wide while the right column is only 25% wide! you can keep them even or change them up. you also have the choice to set a column as a ‘spacer only’, which means that the column is filled with empty space and is just used as a way to format the other column.

you’ll also want to change the looks of the page and the background, as well! you might not be able to see the difference between them at first; as a rule of thumb, make sure you’re selecting the right element on your page by seeing the text on the outside of the little teal box that’s around whatever your mouse is hovering over - when over text, it says text, and image says image, etc. you can see where the page is by hovering outside of the elements and seeing what the selection text says; once you know where the page is, the background is everything outside of it.

the page is like a big platform on which your site goes - all of your different sections and elements, etc. you can choose where it’s positioned, its size, how much of the tab it takes up, color, gradient, corner rounding - you can even choose a pattern to add to it, like stripes, noise, or a grid!

the background, which is everything behind the page, can be set to a color, gradient, image, video, or slideshow! do whatever you want with it.

and yeah! there are lots of things you can do with your site to make it look just how you want it and to personalize it to you - and don’t be afraid to look things up to learn how to add even more! (i learned about adding columns for images with a quick google search when i was making my own carrd!)

once you’re done, click on the save button on the top menu (it looks like a floppy disk, not like anyone knows what that is nowadays. it’s the button next to the phone). if you don’t have a carrd account, it will ask you to make one with your email - this is so you can save your carrd! agree to the terms of service, you get the drill.

then give your carrd a simple title and description! once you do, you can choose whether you want to publish your site now or save it as a draft to your account. if you do want to publish, choose a name for your site that fits the contents! for example, my botanica info carrd is appropriately titled botanica.carrd.co (as ‘botanica’ is what it’s about! note: that carrd is super outdated now...)

whenever your ready, you can publish your carrd! then you can link it in your tumblr description, on your pinned post, or wherever else everyone can see it!

Where you post: Ao3. Honestly i glanced at how to post on fanfiction.net once and went "nope". I'd love to post on there if I could but I don't have the time rn to dedicate a significant amount of time to it.

Most popular multi-chapter fic: "Aren't You Going to Introduce Me?" This is my post Season 5a fic, and it's been doing really well, and I'm super proud of it! People really took to the first few chapters and it's kept me going through!

Favorite story you've written so far: Gosh. That's hard. While I definitely do love them all, I think "You Would've Loved Him" has to be my favorite. It's about Lucifer and Chloe's first Father's Day together, and I must say I love how I wrote them in this fic. They know they can't fix or change the hurt they individually feel because of what's happened with their Fathers, but nevertheless, they are there for each other. Also Trixie is the best in this and the gift she gives Lucifer and his reaction has me so emotional every time. Although I think the end of this fic really does it for me. No matter how many times I read it, and despite knowing I wrote it and knowing it's coming, I cry everytime. It holds a special place in my heart.

Fic you were nervous to post: oh, hmm probably my first: "You Can Still Call Me Detective". It was the first fanfiction I'd ever written period, and I had no idea if it was good or if people would like it. It apparently was and people apparently did. I always hated creative writing in school and never even touched it, but all one day I saw a prompt on Tumblr and was like "oh my god, i need to write that". And, well, the rest is history. Been writing ever since.

How you choose your titles: I follow the same format as the show! All the titles of my fics or chapters are something said by a character in that fic/chapter!

Do you outline: Kind of? I usually have a general outline in my head of things i want to happen, but as for specific details and actual writing, the characters kind of take me where they wanna go. I've watched the show so much and really studied the characters that I think I have a pretty good sense of what they'd do and who they are, so it's just a matter of creating situations for them.

In progress: 2. Currently working on and updating "Aren't You Going to Introduce Me?" "My Lightbringer" is also in progress, it's the sequel of my post season 4 fic. I would like to finish it eventually, but I'm not able to do that right now.

Coming soon/ not yet started: uhhh like 8-12?? I'll often get ideas i really like and get some of the story out and then run outta motivation or ideas. Currently have 8 word documents started but not finished, with like 5 prompts I've come up with saved in my tumblr drafts.

BnHA Chapter 242: SANTA IS REAL

Previously on BnHA: We said farewell to the League of Pliff and were finally reunited with the kids of U.A., an institution which I would just like to point out is so diametrical to the League that they literally took the polar opposite route when choosing their name, and focused only on the acronym. I’m 100% sure U.A. doesn’t even stand for anything. Anyway, so Bakugou and Todoroki went on whirlwind press tour following their ch 219 antics, and the resulting interviews were so disastrous that Aizawa decided to bring in Mt. Lady to give the whole class a crash course in PR 101. Meanwhile All Might scoured Ancestry.com for info on the past users of OFA, and Rat Principal announced that U.A. was going to resume its internship program. This is great news for Deku, who’s been taking his sweet time mastering Blackwhip. Like, we’re not even talking baby steps here so much as little tiny flea steps. Kid’s going to need all the help he can get.

Today on BnHA: Horikoshi targets all of my weak points at once. The My OT3 Academia arc gets off to an incredible, award-winning start with a Christmas party and the announcement of Internships 2: This Time, it’s Compulsory. Highlights include: (1) Kaminari and Mina forcing Bakugou to accept the spirit of Christmas into his heart and soul, (2) Iida rocking a Santa beard, (3) Eri holding a giant sword, (4) Bakugou reminiscing about his internship with Best MIA Jeanist, specifically the part where Jeanist was all “A HERO’S NAME IS REALLY IMPORTANT AND SYMBOLIC AND MEANINGFUL, SO YOU NEED TO THINK VERY CAREFULLY ABOUT IT” and oh my fucking god, and lastly (5) Todoroki inviting Bakugou and Deku to come intern with him at the Endeavor Hero Agency (known for its famous business slogan: “Got Plot?”). It’s like I wished on seventeen different falling stars and they all came true at once. I still can’t even fucking process this. kfkdslgk.

(All comments are my unspoiled reactions from my initial readthrough of the chapter. I did a quick edit for grammar and clarity immediately afterward, and added a few ETAs in the process, but aside from that there are no changes.)

I just got like three excited-seeming asks (I haven’t actually read them yet) in rapidfire succession less than an hour ago, and my dashboard is now filling up with filtered “bnha spoilers” posts, so I took this as a sign that I should read the new chapter ASAP. oh gosh

oh shit, Nezu’s saying it’s now a government requirement. I got so surprised I actually forgot to call him RP

because ain’t nothing safer than hero internships. if the Basement arc taught us nothing else. it’s that

that was sarcasm in case that’s not coming across. this is clearly a baffling decision. but what are government committees for if not for making baffling decisions I guess

and now Midnight is coming to the same conclusion I was starting to wonder at

can someone please tell me what the PSC’s goals actually are, then? is this not the same group that recently changed the rules of the provisional license exam so that an even smaller percentage of people would pass? so do you want more heroes or fewer? which is it?

how do they cope with it? does anyone even have any idea?? it seems to me like they’re just throwing them to the wolves. we have this problem that we have absolutely no idea what to do about, oh I know, let’s toss a bunch of inexperienced kids at it. and hope that none of them gets murdered I guess

anyway so The Sheriff is speculating that the League must have been involved in the Deika situation, and he’s wondering why the PSC is trying so hard to keep it on the dl

oh yeah. friendly reminder that the PSC, thanks to Hawks, probably knows exactly how powerful Tomura and the League have recently become. so they know full well how shark-infested the waters are, and they’re making it mandatory for the kids to all take swimming lessons. nice

lol back when I was brainstorming ideas for future arcs, I seriously thought Horikoshi would have to go out of his way to come up with excuses for the kids to have future encounters with the League, because the school was so concerned with their safety that they wouldn’t allow them to leave the grounds except on rare occasions. well I sure got that one wrong. though to be fair, for once it isn’t U.A. that’s doing the child endangering here

(ETA: and actually, regardless of how insane it is, I do appreciate that when shit inevitably hits the fan again, at least it won’t be U.A.’s fault this time. I’d like to be able to continue rooting for them, and that can be difficult when they keep doing reckless things that needlessly put children in danger. at least this time they’re not the ones driving the Stupid Bus to Bad Decision School.)

1. What’s the nicest thing someone has said about your writing? Oh gosh, I have no idea. I have received some really sweet comments from some really sweet people but honestly there’s only really one comment I remember specifically from @namingtoohard who told me one of my wips reminded him of the Polar Express if everything went horribly wrong lol.

2. What’s your favorite type of character to write? The emotionally closed off character that slowly opens up. They can be so fun and snarky in the beginning and then you slowly get to break into their shell.

3. What books do you plan on reading in the coming months? OOOh I like this question! So I’m getting into a lot of things that I’ve been dying to read lately. Rn I’m just finishing Vicious by V.E. Schwab (AMAZING) so I’ll be reading Vengeful sometime soon. I’m making my way through Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code series (I’m about to start book 2 aka the Da Vinci Code lol). I’m HYPED for Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell and The Infinite Noise by Lauren Shippen (based on The Bright Sessions podcast!!) which come out in the fall. I’ve also decided to make my way through the original Nancy Drew series and I’ve got a ton of comics I want to read which includes Seanan McGuire’s Ghost-Spider. Also starting the Grishaverse before its Netflix debut sometime in the future.

4. What made you join the writing community on tumblr? Oh lol. Absolutely nothing. It just happened? I made a blog to store all the helpful tips posts I found. Then I started talking to some other writers about their stories, and started making a few posts of my own and then there was just no going back lol.

5. What was the last book you read? I am literally rushing through Vicious rn before it’s due back at the library. Read 3/4 of it yesterday. Before that I read the first volume of Batgirl.

6. What’s easier for you to write– opening lines or ending lines? Neeeeeeeither. Depends entirely on the story. I think typically the beginning just because it’s rare that I actually get to the point where I need to write end lines whoops.

7. Favorite OC name? There’s definitely lots. I love Nikolai Nyx so much though and that’s the only one that specifically comes to mind rn.

8. What are your writing goals for this year? Make some for once lol and maybe stick to them? (Note: this has not been achieved successfully yet ugh).

9. What’s more important to you– good characters or a good plot? Good characters. If there’s good characters, I could read about them doing absolutely anything. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are some good stories that have cool plots and terrible characters but they’re rarer. Because terrible characters stick out and can make it a pretty tough read- or watch.

10. Would you want to trade lives with one of your OCs and, if so, which one? I was gonna say probably not but you know what Kosma lives in a library and that’s pretty damn great I’ll trade with her.

11. What’s the last line you wrote? ............ It’s been a while I have no idea sorry. I would have shared my last line in a last line tag sometime ago.

How do you know when agent is for you? You've probably already answered that, so feel free to defer me to an old post. Also how many agents should I contact at a time? Ten? (Fear not -- I am not sending this bad boy to anyone until it reaches a marginally acceptable word-count lol)

you sent this a couple days ago, but it was actually the perfect time bc i had a call with my agent today and i can explain how i know he’s the right agent for me, vs my first agent.

but first, to answer your second question now bc the first answer became a novel, i always started with a round of 10 - 20 queries, and i’d typically choose faster agents to see if my query is working to hook anyone in. if i got a rejection, i sent out a new query to another agent, just so i could feel like i was still working toward my goal. and my opinion on it is you should query absolutely anyone you want so long as they represent your genre and category. (an agent who only reps nonfiction won’t want fiction, for example, no matter how cool it sounds.) don’t be afraid that one agent is any bigger than any other and thus choose not to query them at all. if i’d done that, my agent and i wouldn’t be working together (i had a referral as he was and still is closed to queries).

now for your first question: my current agent has stuck with me for two years (i signed the contract in late july/we went on sub early august of 2016), long after many people told me he’d drop me. i still don’t really understand why he’s stuck with me, but i always know that he believes in me and my books bc he gives them the time they deserve and he’s vocal in what he likes and doesn’t like.

his client list is full and i’m one of the very few who hasn’t sold (my phoenix WIP will be book 5 with him, though we didn’t sub book 4) this far into my career pursuits. for example, he signed a client a few months after me and went on sub in december. two weeks later, she had a major deal with one of the Big 5. thus, naturally, for the first year we worked together i was concerned he’d drop me after book 1 didn’t sell and book 2 didn’t sell, but then by book 3 i had a feeling he’d stay loyal and he has.

but all of that? i didn’t know all of that when i signed with him. i had some references from writers (past and current clients, as well as those who just knew of him bc he’s a pretty big ya agent) and my experience with him during my R&R, and some hope that we’d work well together. but i also knew from clients that he’s an aggressive agent (in that he is a go-getter when it comes to subbing books, isn’t afraid to breathe down editors’ necks if they’re being slow or not communicating well, that sort of thing) and he’s also a fast reader for clients. (well, typically, depending on the time of year, but that’s true of any agent.) so all of that appealed to me bc that’s the kind of person i am.

so, to compare that to my first agent: after book 1 didn’t sell, i worked on book 2 and gave it to her and six months later she’d read no more than 150 pages of it. she kept giving me excuses, saying she was busy with this, that, and the other thing, without ever proving to me that she valued me as a client. the last straw for me was the week after the date she’d told me she’d have my book read (this was the fourth time she’d given me a date) and she just replied that she was busy with another contract and would get to me eventually. and when i fired her, she didn’t even fight to keep me. (it should be known that this book 2 with her is the one that got me my current agent.)

for some, a slow agent works well for them, especially if they’re a slower writer. i’m not. my typical first draft is done in a couple months, depending on how busy i am. so when i sent the book to her after my CPs read it and she was taking six months to read 150 pages? there was a serious problem there for me. it was too slow, too passive. but when i signed with her, i wouldn’t have known that.

and that’s the kicker. you will never know how an agent’s philosophy will work with yours until you sign with them. you can get as many references as possible and still never truly know, bc everyone’s experience with their agent is different. just look at the above with my current agent and how many people warned me against him. here we are book 5, and we just had a chat about my phoenix WIP to untangle any plot knots or tie up any loose ends.

he’s active in my career pursuits, which is how i know he’s loyal to me (and it will never stop surprising me). remember, agents only get paid if they sell your book. so long as you’re producing new material, your job is done. after that, it’s up to the agent to fulfill their job and sell it. (i’m still teaching myself this nearly six years into being an agented writer.) like i said a while ago, you don’t want to send your agent a thousand emails in a thousand threads about a thousand topics, y’know? but you also never want to feel like a burden. i still feel that way sometimes (for no other reason than i’m a worry wart, bc my agent has never made me feel that way) and i often have to get my friends to give me a kick in the pants to just bite the bullet and send the email. (this is one reason you need a support system of people who know what it’s like to be a writer pursuing traditional publishing.) so, if your agent is making you believe that you’re a burden to them? time to 1) have a chat and/or 2) fire them. both of those can be done over email, as mine were with my first agent.

another way to tell they’re the one for you is that they want to know about your life. not in explicit details, ofc, but enough that they can get a picture of who you are. like today, my agent and i were talking about college bc my little sister is starting freshman year and his eldest daughter is touring for schools. our last phone call we were talking about a concert he went to see where one singer was so hot he came onto the stage in a nude bodysuit. i’ve mentioned my surgery to him, my brother dying, and graduating college, and he’s told me about his daughter’s surgery, where he’s hoping to travel next summer, and how his daughter went on a study abroad thing for a few weeks in the spring. none of it’s deep, but it’s enough that if you two are sitting at a table over dinner at some conference, you’re not going to be sitting there in silence. you won’t feel like strangers to each other.

and everyone, of course, has different philosophies on that. it works well for me bc the more i know him, the better i feel about emailing him or explaining why i included one subplot. i have a friend who doesn’t really ever talk to her agent now that she’s sold a book bc that’s just not how it works for her. another friend talks to her agent more than i talk to my own, and she and he have met up a few times for dinners and whatnot when she’s in NYC. many writers will go to NYC to meet with their agent and editor after they’ve sold a book. (a lot of publishing is about who you know because that can really get your foot in the door. for example, a lot of editors now know me by name and ask for my work. when i query my adult book, i’ll be querying some former editors, now agents who read my books when my agent sent them out on sub.)

and lastly bc holy shit this is a novel, you want to make sure you know where you stand in terms of control over sub. some agents don’t want their clients to suggest editors, while others are willing to look at some you suggest. i’ve given my agent several referrals from friends to sub to their editors and he’s always happy to take them up on it (well, within reason, bc if he’s heard some iffy stuff about editors he won’t send them, no matter what). in the end, i always leave it up to him, since he’s the professional who makes lasting relationships with any editors, scouts, foreign rights agents, film producers, etc etc.

to end this, lemme do a TL;DR: to know if an agent is for you, you need to trust and have faith in your agent with your books and your career, you need to feel comfortable with them (it doesn’t always come right away, believe me, bc you are virtually strangers), you need to have an idea of what kind of working relationship you have in mind and see if your agent shares the same philosophy, and you need to make sure your agent doesn’t make you feel like a burden. when you get off the phone with your agent, you need to feel energized to start working (as i do rn, as it happens) and not dreading the edits in a certain way: everyone dreads edits, especially if they’re intense. that’s not what i mean. i mean that if you dread the edits bc you don’t agree with them, feel it would change a huge portion of your book, or veer it far away from your vision, you need to consider whether to argue with your agent on this matter or part ways.

i think, overall, working with agents seems more daunting than it really is for no other reason than how hush-hush everyone is told to be–and with good reason. publishing is a small industry and people talk (i’m the head of the department of redundancy department, in case you didn’t know bc I say that so often 😂), so you don’t want to start publicly complaining about any specific person, naming names and pointing fingers and whatnot. you also don’t want to tweet that you just got an offer of rep bc any other agents looking at your feed (as they often do when considering you as a client) will probably decide you’ve tipped your hat already and dont want to compete. celebrate in private, basically. so agented writers are often silent on any given matter for no other reason than protecting their careers/reputation, but most writers are happy to talk in private if a potential client emails them to ask how this agent works and how happy they are with that agent.

and i really need to shut up. i hope some of my ramblings make sense and have some feeble sense of direction, but if not, ask away! (as you can see, i like to ramble 😂).

I sincerely hope you’re asking for a sort of hockey overview (rules, structure, etc.) bc that’s what I’m reading this as and that’s how I’m going to answer

okay so I looked through the tags for a while thinking there would already be something somewhere (and I’m sure there is) but I couldn’t find anything and I can’t think of a specific post that I’m aware of rn, so, I’m just going to make one myself

warning: this is rly long and I could not for the life of me make the read more work, pls forgive me, I will tag it as “long post”

so I’m totally cool with making this and none of this is meant to be condescending, only informational!

1. makeup of the NHL

there are 2 conferences (eastern and western) and 4 divisions (atlantic, metropolitan, central, and pacific)

the eastern conference is made up of:

the atlantic division, wherein you’ll find gems such as the: detroit red wings (wings), ottawa senators (sens), florida panthers (cats), buffalo sabres, toronto maple leafs (leafs), montreal canadiens (habs), boston bruins (b’s), and tampa bay lightning (bolts)

and the metropolitan division, wherein you’ll find beauties by the name of the: carolina hurricanes (canes), philadelphia flyers, washington capitals (caps), new york islanders (isles), columbus blue jackets (cbj, jackets), new jersey devils (devs), new york rangers (rags), and pittsburgh penguins (pens)

the western conference is made up of:

the central divisions, wherein you’ll find stunners such as the: nashville predators (preds), winnipeg jets, st. louis blues, minnesota wild, dallas stars, colorado avalanche (avs), and chicago blackhawks (hawks, trash)

and the pacific division, wherein you’ll find catches by the name of the: edmonton oilers, vancouver canucks (nucks), calgary flames, san jose sharks, arizona coyotes (yotes), los angeles kings, vegas golden knights (vgk, knights), and anaheim ducks

vegas is the newest team, which gave the pacific a full 8-team division, making the central division the only one with 7 teams, however, seattle’s probably getting a team in the near future and you’d think they’d belong in the pacific as well, so who tf knows what the divisions will look like in a few years :-) (this wouldn’t be the first time they’ve changed)

teams in the same division play each other 4 times a year (2 home, 2 away), every team plays each other at least twice every season (1 home, 1 away), and a team from one division can play a team from the other division in their conference 3 times a year, depending on how the scheduling works out

2. basic rules and structure for a hockey game

- a hockey game is 60 minutes, 20 minutes per 3 periods with 2 intermissions, but, generally, with stoppages and real-world timing, a hockey game last about 2 ½ to 3 hours

- there are 6 players from each team on the ice at a time, 3 forwards (right wing, centre, and left wing), 2 defensemen (right and left), and 1 goalie; each team will have with them on the bench 4 lines of forwards (12 guys), 3 defensemen pairs (6 guys), and 2 goalies (starter and backup) - some coaches, instead of 12/6, like to do 11/7, which means taking away a forward in favour of another defenseman, which basically means that some forwards will be taking double shifts and you’ll have an extra d-man to play so they essentially don’t get tired out as fast

- okay so the guy with the puck, on his way into the opponent’s zone (past the blue line) has to enter before any of his teammates, or at least the puck has got to cross the line first; the dudes on the other team can go in whenever bc it’s their own zone, but when you’re on offense, puck first - if you come before the puck, that’s called offside and the linesmen will stop the play and have a faceoff outside of your opponent’s zone

- you can’t just shoot the puck all the way down the ice into the opponent’s zone! that’s called icing - you can shoot it in from centre ice, but not from your zone all the way into the other guys’ zone; if you ice the puck, the linesmen will stop the play and the faceoff will come back in your own zone

- also, the referees (who call penalties) wear the orange armbands and the linesmen do not (they call the offsides and icings)

- nobody knows wtf goalie interference is anymore in the league so it’s best not to ask

which brings me to my next point

3. penalties

- the first thing to remember is that you will never fully agree with all of the refs’ calls as you become more familiar with the game, and yeah, sometimes it’s gonna screw over your team, but that’s hockey

- if your team gets a penalty, that means you’ll be playing 4 guys instead of 5, while the other team (on a power play) will have all 5 guys (plus goalies, of course), and your penalized dude gets to sit in the penalty box (aka sin bin) for 2-5 minutes, depending on what he did and what the call is

- a delayed penalty is when team 1 is called for a penalty, but team 2 (who is about to go on the power play, or pp) is still in control of the puck, so team 2′s goalie goes to the bench (since any goals here by team 1 won’t count) and they get an extra 6th man, and the penalty will be called as soon as team 1 touches the puck (or a goal is scored, and then no penalty)

- you can get a 2, 4, or 5 minute penalty, as well as a 10 minute game misconduct - 2 minutes is minor penalty, 4 minutes is a double minor, and 5 minutes is a major

- 2-minute minors: hooking, crosschecking, tripping, elbowing, highsticking (no blood), kneeing, unsportsmanlike conduct (mouthing off to the refs, ususally), too many men on the ice, and a variety of other things that I either can’t remember rn or don’t get called very often (like tucking your jersey into your pants) - these penalties end immediately if the team on a power play scores

- 4-minute double minors: generally this is for when you highstick someone and they start bleeding - if the power play team scores during the first 2 minutes, only that penalty ends (in other words, still 2 minutes to go), if they score in the second 2 minutes, then the penalty is altogether over

- 5-minute majors: fighting, boarding, spearing, charging, anything that’s more serious - the power play team can score as many times as they want during this penalty and the penalty will not end until the 5 minutes is up

- 10-minute misconduct: this is for when you’re rly being an asshole - mouthing off, seriously injuring a player, and so on, and you can either sit in the penalty box for 10 minutes (your team will not face a penalty for this, just the player) or you might just get kicked out of the game (say it’s the first or second period and there’s 10 minutes or less left, the player will probably just be sent to the dressing room for the misconduct and potentially return the next period)

- and above all else, a player rly can just kicked out of a game, especially if they’ve done something that is worthy of a fine or a suspension, which will be reviewed after the game

- also, both teams can get a penalty, which results in 4-on-4 hockey, and a team can get 2 penalties, which results in 5-on-3 hockey (or like 4-on-3 sometimes, if team 1 has 1 penalty and team 2 has 2)

4. wins, losses, OT, and SO

- if your team wins a game in regulation, congrats, you get 2 full points!

- if your team loses in regulation, you get 0 points :(

- OT (overtime) is when a game is still tied after 3 periods; each team gets 1 point, and the game is now going to sudden-death (someone scores, game over) 5 minute 3-on-3 hockey (yes, 3-on-3, 2 forwards and 1 d-man) - whoever scores now gets the full 2 points

- if that doesn’t solve it, we got to a SO (shootout), which involves 1-on-1 goalie vs. shooter, each team gets 3 shooters to start, the shooters rotate, and whoever scores the most goals wins (if no goals are scored by these 6 shooters, or it’s still tied, it goes to 1-shooter rounds until one team scores and the other doesn’t), winner gets 2 points

5. other general stuff

- come playoff time (only like a month away now), if you want a crash course on that, I’ll be happy to help, since I could do a whole new thing just for that

- if a player’s last name is kane, chances are they are a bad person (feel free to ask me for players that have done some shitty stuff, if you care to know that stuff)

- hockey tumblr is uh… an interesting place, take this as a warning, there are lots of nice ppl I’ve met here, but there are also a lot of opinions and it can get ugly

- there are also NHL awards and an entry draft at the end of the season, which you can ask me about, too (in June, that’s when it all takes place!)

- trades suck sometimes but luckily the trade deadline is over for this season (which was a week ago), so no more trades can be made until after someone wins the stanley cup this year

- there is an all-star weekend in January and that’s always a hoot

- every team has an AHL team affiliate, which is where they keep players that they can call up if someone gets injured, and where players develop so that they can be the best-conditioned player for the NHL before making it to the big league, and they play for their own cup (the Calder Cup, which the Grand Rapids Griffins, affiliate of the Red Wings, won last year)

- each team also has an ECHL team, which is a step under the AHL, like a reserve-reserve team

- if need be, I can also explain how call ups and waivers work, too

- the top three stanley cup winning teams are the: habs (24), leafs (13), and wings (11) - everyone else is pretty far from those totals

This was only supposed to be a one-lined post (Life, College, Projects, etc.)

Earlier today, while I was deep in thought and studying for an exam next week, I just casually “biology is so fuckin cool”.

I’d just like to point out that I’ll be getting ready to graduate this time next year, so I’m pretty far into my degree, and I haven't come across a single class for my major that I didn’t find interesting. Even the ones that had really shitty professors. Even the ones that were extremely difficult (like o-chem OTL)

I’ve enjoyed the ride all the way up until this point, and I’m excited at the prospect of grad school. I’m just very happy with this and think that I’ve made a really good choice with this.

Also, can I just say holy shit at how much time has passed? I’ve been on this meme-loving website since my senior year of high school. So much has changed since then. I feel like my perceptions of things and views of myself and others and the world have changed so much.

It’s just so much to reflect on and take in and understand. I never would have guessed I would be in the place that I am if you asked me back in high school. Of course, if you did ask me, I probably would have been like “did future me tell you to come back and ask me? So he’s still a debilitating nerd for time travel? Good.”.

Anyway, heh

Basically, I know that I don’t post a whole lot on here much anymore, huh? It’s really just because I’ve been dedicating a lot of my time to things outside of here, as I’m sure I’ve said before. Either way, for those who may still check in and might be wondering what’s going on, I’ll fill you in!

1.) I’ve just recently gotten past a very long writer’s block for music, and came up with a really awesome melody for a song that I’ve been working on for over a year!

2.) I work in biology lab on campus that studies oocyte maturation. I’m receiving credit for my degree right now, but I’ll be getting paid for it during this summer! And then I’ll be switching to a new lab in the fall studying ecological effects that some of the bacteria in our lake have on our environment.

3.) I’ve started drafting the main plot points for Do You Have the Time Episode 4.

4.) Abbey and I just had our 2 year anniversary a few weeks ago! She got me a humongous box of cookies that will literally knock you and your blood-sugar on your ass if you dare to eat more than one at a time. I got her a small box of macaroons and a card with a pop-up vase of flowers (she showed it to me once, and I remembered!). We’re probably going to see each other in May/June.

5.) I’m moving into an apartment with my old band-mates in the Fall. They both went to the same college as me, so we’re talking a bit more again, which is fun!

6.) I managed to face a person and situation from my past that has given me a lot of trouble for a lot of years. Our talk went very well, and she helped me understand a lot of things that I was confused about. It’s helped me feel better in myself and my future!

7.) One of the people that I work with in the lab is an INFP, and his views on the world are so Ne and positive it’s like looking into a fuckin mirror.

8.) I’ve found a Masters program that interests me a lot, and is also much closer to Abbey. There is a decent possibility that we’ll get to be together in a little over a year. (Nothing is ever guaranteed in life, but fingers crossed, you know?)

9.) My mom will be getting health insurance back once she graduates college and gets a new job with her degree (she’ll be an RN) and asked if I wanted to get braces. (??? I guess that’s cool?)

10.) My acoustic guitar is currently decommissioned because it’s too dry to replace the strings, so it’s basically unplayable right now. I got a humidifier for it, and I’m hoping that it’ll be well enough to play again because I miss it a lot. However, I’ve been giving my ukulele a lot more attention as of late.

11.) I recently had my mom drop off my old microphone because I’ve been considering getting back into making gaming commentary videos. My old friend who recorded with me also sent me a message the other day, while I was thinking about it, so that made me more interested in starting up the machine.

12.) I still tutor math on campus! Calculus 1 and below (so, algebra and trigonometry, basically). One of my students called me a genius the other day (unfortunately, that statement is a bit inaccurate, heh. But the gesture was very sweet) Another one has told me repeatedly “you teach me everything that I need to know in one hour, and my professor can’t even do it for an entire week that I go to class!”. Kind of an unfortunate compliment for me to receive from the perspective of the professor, but still, also a sweet gesture.

13.) Abbey and I watched that anime movie called Your Name for our anniversary, and it was really good! The music is great!

14.) Abbey also wanted us to get snapchats so we could send each other fun pictures throughout the day. We do, and it’s really fun! But now I also send pictures of the experiments that I run in the lab to my friends and family, and all of them are very confused. They just know that I’m doing science.

15.) Oh man, wouldn’t it have been cool if I could think of a 15th thing so this list seemed more planned and cohesive?

Heh, well, there you go!

I just thought I would say that I hope that everyone who still comes around and looks at my blog is doing well, and still find happiness from the things that I might do! I know that I’m not very active and content that I put out is probably few and far between. But either way, if there has ever been anything that I’ve shared that has made you happy or smile, then good! I’m so happy for that!

Regardless, I hope that life has been treating you all well. And I know that maybe it hasn't been for everyone. In which case, that’s not so great, I’m sorry for that, friend. But remember that for the bad that might be in your life right now, there is always good to counter it! Maybe it’s not there right now, maybe it will take a while, but it’s not gone. The good is never completely gone. Please don’t ever forget that.

Also, a quick thank you and shout-out to those who have read my little short story series Do You Have the Time! I know that I’m a slow writer/poster. And also that I can probably count the number of people who read it on one hand. But that doesn’t matter. I never expected for anyone to read it at all because I don’t put a whole lot of word out, heh. I just post once on tumblr and I’m done. I know that there are a lot of other ways to try to get my stuff noticed, but I’m not really concerned with that. I just like writing it. And even if only one person reads it and likes it, that is enough. That’s awesome! I can’t believe that those people exist and are so cool (looking at you @stormphoenix)!

Just, thank you for sticking around, despite my slow and infrequent process. I notice who takes the time to acknowledge it. And I appreciate it every single time!

Anyway, I just mean to say that I hope that everyone that I’ve ever come across on here is happy in one way or another. I love you all, have a good night!

1. Favorite place to write?

this is a lame boring answer but just my desk. i’m very comfortable at it as long as my dog isn’t asking to be in my lap bc then i can’t focus

3. Least favorite part of writing?

the writing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, but no probably writer’s block. like even when i’ve done other productive things i don’t feel productive unless i’ve written so i hate being writer’s block

4. Do you have writing habits or rituals?

when i’m really really really stuck i’ll try to talk to my friend ash about the parts i’m most excited about to get myself pumped back up for it

5. Books or authors that influenced your style the most?

i’m sure there are some bc i’m so easily influenced but i can’t pick them out necessarily. probably partly the song of achilles bc i loved that book so much and i loved the style but i can’t tell for sure

8. Favorite trope to write?

idk power couple? i love having natalia and rosie from my novel be equally badass together. also heterobaiting bc for a hot second i made it seem like it was gonna be natalia and their friend elias but haha nope. i don’t know tropes well enough to say for certain but these are some of the things i like about my own novel

10. Pick a writer to co-write a book with and tell us what you’d write about.

madeline miller and i are gonna write some more killer gay greek rewriters like a love story between icarus and apollo or some shit

12. How do you deal with self-doubts?

i reread my favorite parts sometimes and i’m like wow,,,, goddamn,,, did i write that for real?? or i just say “fuck it fuck it FUCK IT i’ll rewrite it later” and try to power through

15. Where does your inspiration come from?

it depends on what i’m writing. for things like fanfic it comes from the fact that i love hearing back from people like everybody does but genuinely i just love hearing that someone else’s day was made bc they read my work. i love hearing that they think i got the characterization of something right. it makes me so happy. for my novel i’m working on rn, it at first came from the fact that i love 3 things a lot: queer rep, magic, and knights. so i put all that in a book and rolled with it. now it’s because rosalind is my heart and soul and i love writing about her so much that i just wanna keep going

20. Post a snippet of a WIP you’re working on.

i already did this but fuck it i’ll do more of this one. i wanted to do a fic but i don’t have anything started on my fic sdjfsljdfl

Rosalind woke up to Natalia crawling into her bed and planting herself on top of her legs, and then saying, “Rosieeeeeeeeeeee,” until Rosalind found the energy to swat at her. Her curtains were already drawn, and when she lifted her head to look around, she saw that breakfast was waiting for her at her table. She wondered where Jenna was and why she hadn’t woken her up. Natalia started her whining again, so she groaned and shoved her off of her legs. “Finally!”

“Where is Jenna?” she asked instead of answering Natalia’s impatience. “Why are you waking me up?”

“Why can’t I just wake up my best friend on this fine morning?” Natalia said, with no small amount of grandeur in a gesture toward the window. “The birds are singing, the sun is shining, there is a gentle breeze.”

(followed later by:)

She was holding her head up high like she knew what it was that she was doing out here, but really she was just desperate and scared. But the birds were singing, the sun was shining, and there was a gentle breeze. And above all else, Natalia was a spark of life all around her.

27. Do you share rough drafts or do you wait until it’s polished?

it really depends on the case but i share rough drafts sometimes

28. Who do you share them with?

well currently i have my doc shared with @the-voice-of-night-vale and @kiss-my-asthma-bitch

30. Favorite line you’ve ever written?

I can’t remember but I really fucking like “She had gone to everything that she had never thought of before except in passing, with a tightness in her chest and a voice screaming, Do not break this. Do not break something so priceless as us.”

36. A spoiler for story:

well for my novel a spoiler is that rosalind defects from her country later on although no one but ash and sarah will get that

a spoiler for the fic i’m gonna write is idfk bc i haven’t planned it yet someone needs to hold me accountable for this shit asjdklfjd

39. Do you base your characters off real people or not?

I don’t think I do really. I might because I’m like that but I don’t notice it if I do

40. Original fiction or fanfiction, and why?

a month ago i would have only said original fiction but i’ve gotten back into fanfiction recently. both have their perks i mean original fiction is completely mine and i can do with it what i want without worrying about canon or aus or characterization and i can be proud of every single aspect since it’s all original, but fanfiction is a lot more interactive and gives validation a lot easier and quicker, which i like lol but also it’s easier to get around to people and i like to see how my writing affects other people so that’s important to me

42. How do you figure out your character’s looks, personality, etc?

looks: i base them off of real people sort of bc i fucking suck at appearances (rosalind looks like janelle monae). personality: i fucking wing it. i do a skeleton of the character and let them figure out who they are themselves as i write it

46. What would your story ____ look like as a tv show or movie?

my novel would be hella fucking cool, it would look probably a bit like merlin bc it’s a castle with magic but it would be very colorful and a lot more diverse and everything is very aesthetic hopefully and janelle monae herself is my girl rosalind,,,,,,,,,,,, in a perfect world at least

51. Describe the aesthetic of your story __ in five sentences.

my novel is: pink flowers. bright flames. the top of a castle against a cloudy sky. the way brown eyes look golden in the sunshine. a sword surrounded by vines.

that sounds really fucking extra but that’s how i think of it at least. with emphasis on the pink flowers bc that’s for rosalind and she’s the mc

54. Any writing advice?

love your main character. whatever you do, fall in love with them. that’s what’s gotten me through. also OUTLINE!!!! but even with an outline, if you don’t love your main character i don’t think you can keep going. if they’re not a good person, love the idea of them. love writing them. i wouldn’t be able to keep writing if i didn’t have all these emotions about rosalind. and know them. even i, who is the shittiest character builder in the world, have found that writing is so much easier when i can spend hours pacing up and down my room thinking about who rosalind is on the inside, and what she would be in modern times (she’d own a lesbian blog, 10% bc she likes lesbian positivity and 90% bc she likes to gush about natalia)
