i was being a completely sane person today (/s) and was creating a timeline tree for snm would anyone even be interested in that. and collecting my shipping thoughts (or specifics about them being a couple etc). know that i still consider my knowledge of the franchise as poor. its just tidying it up in my head so when i talk about something i can pinpoint a specific thing (i was too deep in fnaf theorizing so now i have to suffer thru a franchise that doesnt even have a canon)

in short/tldr the comics are the base that happened in every possible timeline and everything else is derived from that, happening after, except the cartoon, which shows some events the same way so that would be more intertwined; not everything is connected/within one timeline. and the cartoon is my most fav and where i see them as a true couple.

long rant ahead

on one hand i really like the time travel theory where its like comics -> ttg -> cartoon etc by them travelling back in time for that, however there are many holes especially thinking about their families and stuff so

i like the idea of things branching off. one branch is comics - htr - cartoon, as something more intertwined

second is comics -> ttg -> poker night 2 (since it references ttg events) (idk bout 1 i havent played/seen that)

third would be comics -> ttiv (or comics -> htr -> ttiv, i have no idea atm if bosco's is mentioned in the comics but it is in htr and mentioned in ttiv. ttiv is also set in the year it came out, so theres a huge gap inbetween ttiv and htr but i wouldnt say its where the ttg games happened!)

and i dont mean this in like a multiverse way, since the creator seems to dislike that, its simply just a very loose canon that differs with each installment (simply due to different people working on these imo. nothing too deep imo)

but the juicy part!! i even made brackets that im too lazy to remake digitally so i will just write it out for each bigger installment. im excluding poker night 1 as i havent played it nor watched much gameplay

htr: M - possible; BF - yes

cartoons: M - i take it as canon here. BF - yes million percent

ttg all seasons: M - no; BF - yes.

poker night 2: M - not sure, implied dating, i take that as good enough; BF - yes

ttiv: M - absolutely not. not a couple at all. BF - they seem too tense, yes, but from my experience playing, their interactions were imo the worst in all of their media, so i wasnt buying it at some points

note - ttiv has to be like the straightest they ever were and i also see it in S.P.'s more recent work. im looking too deep into that, perhaps, but im just thinking were never gonna get anything similar to what we got from back in the 90s again, if theres any future projects

people are also saying they got married like 4 times and its making me a bit confused here. do people mean cartoon, htr dress up card, cake topper and tdph ring scene or am i missing something big?? because to me that is married once, other ones being just for jokes (first one as well but its less vague), and in the ttg games its so extremely vague i cant count that (being realistic here) that said its still fun to joke about them getting married several times, but in this case wouldnt it be more of a marriage per timeline?

and to end this, a personal tierlist

my most fave obviously is the cartoon. not only is it the easiest to work with for me, with the fast pacing and short watch time (but ofc i wish it was longer) i absolutely love how their relationship is depicted there, even if a lot of stuff there is just jokes, but if everything is a joke then its also fine to take everything as canon within this media, to me! like when haters say that people only take the wedding scene out of the intro and ignore the rest - as if the other stuff couldnt happen (isnt one of the shots them fighting a giant octopus, which they end up having an episode about too. like cmon. anything goes here) even if it was contained within this specific part of the franchise, im ok with calling them a couple here. and its S tier overall

another S tier is the comics. nothing else to say

HTR is like A tier to me, only taking off points because its soooo sloooowwww and playing it after watching the series took 3 years off my life immediately. otherwise gud game.

ttg is like A to B tier for me, because of some specifics and preferences but thats just me being nitpicky so, the games overall are good. A- it is. thats all

poker night 2 is fun, i watch the gameplay a lot lately when im too tired at midnight to do anything else, A tier

ttiv. oh how mixed i am about you. gameplay by itself and my first experience with the game - S tier. it made me so giddy more than one time and i kept wanting to come back until i finished the game fully. i dont mind the bugs, its just what i expect in VR games and even tho it made me a bit frustrated at times it wasnt all that bad. its also the only vr game i played for over an hour once and didnt get motion sick - the exception was the level at the store which seemed too bright and actually made me nauseous. which is a feeling that somehow comes back whenever i think about this game. what i dislike was the dialogue, while most of it was fun and fine, i had moments where i just burst out laughing, they (or max especially) were way too mean towards the player. i know its a joke and you could chalk it up to max being unhappy with us/jealous, but it got like, generally unpleasant very quickly. with stuff like good throw - "nice!" bad throw - *neverending insults* and the second was how painfully straight it was and like. the vibes i got from them two was like, oh theyre fed up with each other and my shipping self was just left quite disappointed. i did not get all lines during my gameplay which made it great but upon going thru every line manually after, i was just more and more uncomfortable with what they said in their banter. this drops the game to like C for me? maybe B if i squint. being generous. i also got sick of their talking animations over time... the models are fine just got to be too much. bonus points for max ragdoll physics tho. coming up with a conclusion that this is a completely separate timeline and has nothing to do with anything other than the comics and perhaps HTR. i talked so long about this one cause its the one thing that prompted all of this lol.

but its not that serious! i just knew this franchise for ages as "oh its the two animal guys that are married and its funny" and now that i got into it fully, i see a lot of the shippers are obviously daydreaming and taking things out of context - which is fun, i agree!! i also do that. but it just painted a completely different picture for me. so no. theyre not married, theyre not a couple, except for the cartoon, where its implied, which stays on top for me. but in ttg at least, they love each other, its not as romantic, but i can ship them there (so i ship them in the context of the cartoon and ttg basically)

anyway. nothing is canon for them, everything is canon for them, and everything they say or do is a joke so. its not that deep at all. they gay tho

to be honest im all over the place, i really havent gone far from being still into toh- and mainly thats because im afraid of losing inspiration for writing toh fics if i dont keep some sort of grasp on it.

i have gotten and dabbled in other series but not really any that id want to write or read for. least not at this time. its like im consuming the media as it is and am not wanting to go deeper to create things for said media pieces.

recently- well.. not super recently i did watch arcane, and of course im really into scream, as well as both fight club and im sort of getting into mha.

however, i will say bloom into you ive taken a good interest in and while i havent read the manga fully yet- ive watched the anime like three times. i did start a fic that i didnt actually get far on but yeah.

really want to buy more of dorohedoro whenever possible too.

im just here idk. i hope i dont seem annoying or childish by still being in this fandom :(. i really just love the owl house, and growing up, it was really hard for me to find wlw representation that wasnt sexualized or like there was some sort of double standard of a male gaze with it. i kinda just found toh and have stuck by it. especially with the canon nonbinary they/them characters. lumity isnt a speculative ship either- we arent left in lesbian yearning. its an actual ship. for the first time in my fandom life i am able to experience a romantic relationship in a series that isnt purely derived from fanfiction and fan content. its real, and i love them. i love that theyre real and canon.

theres so much to think and talk about with the world too that leaves me to want to write about- especially BECAUSE its over. i can analyze canon as a whole and look at it like a salad bar of toppings for a fic.

i know its kind of childish, but i genuinely just love lumity. i love seeing them be happy. and im not gonna push myself if i dont feel up to parting with the series just yet. usually, my fandom eras last for a couple of years anyway. nothing just has roped me in just yet. i suppose when the fandom starts dying out, ill leave then, but it's pretty healthy still, and it's good. especially here on tumblr. very much so good people here.

Ngl, I’m not really happy about The Winchesters being picked up even though I expected it. Jensen has made it very clear that we’re not his intended audience, so I doubt a lot of us would actually like it. It’s probably just gonna be a newer version of the first three seasons of supernatural but with more women and poc. And I’m sorry but even his attempts at diversifying the cast doesn’t seem genuine to me. I’m definitely not saying it’s a bad thing but it seems like he’s trying to get brownie points or fill some sort of quota.

I pretty much feel the same. Marginalised people getting to see themselves in media is a good thing, so them having a queer guy and a woman of colour in the main cast is a good thing on paper. However a lot of people (including me and you) have the weird feeling that theyre doing this for clout and bc they think marginalised people will take any scraps theyre given.

Ofc we have no way of confirming this suspicion and we may be waaay off base, but i dont get tired of talking about how ive been here for a decade and ive seen jackles be weird around gay shit on spn, the most recent example being the very weird no homoing of the confession by calling it "holier than human love" or something. i dont think hes a straight up homophobe, but you will excuse me for being suspicious of his motives here.

also yeah he literally said people who werent gonna watch the prequel arent real fans, which was OBVIOUSLY a joke, i get it, but idk what hes expecting when he makes a prequel about john winch.

i think jackles is a lot more fandom savvy than he lets on, he definitely knows that the destiel/gay/not straight white american part of the fandom doesnt like john, so specifically the inclusion of a bi man and a brown woman feels like hes trying to bait that part of the fandom into watching the prequel anyways and it just sucks that we have reason to feel like our identities are deliberately being used to increase viewership.

if he wants to make a little show about john fucking winch and rewrite him into a better person than he canonically was, i cant stop him, but i see very very little chance of me paying any attention to this show once it airs and if that makes me "not a real fan". uh. idc lmao.

and what i find a bit annoying is people trying to guilt trip others who say they wont watch it bc "if this show fails jackles might not get to make other, better spn related shows". im glad you still havent given up hope, but im not waiting for jackles to come up with a stellar spn spinoff or a destiel show or whatever when his first and best idea for a spn related show was "prequel about two characters we literally already know everything about, one of which is hated by a big part of the fandom". I hope the actors can use this to jumpstart their careers, but other than that this can get cancelled after one season for all i care...

Ive been watching steven universe future, and really weirdly connecting with it. Idk if its harmful or not.

ive known about eldest daughter syndrome for a while, and very much relate to it because ive been taking on parental and house duties since i was 12 years old. Ive also done the thing where my parents dont hide their emotional troubles from me. I thought, oh it means they trust me and its a good thing. Ive been going to college to be a therapist for this very reason. But lately, EVERYONE wants me to be their therapist. Random dudes on the internet, friends, particularly family. My parents just separated this year, 2020, and instead of being upset myself, ive just been a therapist for my mom. I told her i didnt want to, i wasnt qualified, i couldnt deal with it, but she keeps forcing me into these conversations. Telling me im the only one she can depend on and since im training to be a therapist that means i should know what to do and that its worth my while as a sort of exercise (except its for people i feel way too close to). I havent had time to feel upset or the opportunity to talk because ive had to turn myself off for "therapy mode" almost everyday since then. But Im 23 years old now, so its not like an adult dumping their problems on a child, so its selfish to feel wronged right? Its wrong to feel like its eldest daughtet syndrome when im just an adult having adult conversations right?

. Heres the thing though. Steven universe future came out around the time this all happened. Prickly pair had a huge effect on me. Ive been rewatching the show to see where this shit comes into play, and its fairly often. I feel a fearful connection with steven because while my situation was NEVER as dire, i still feel like it represents being given too much responsibility as a kid and then facing anger issues and instability later. Its given me so much anxiety recently because i feel like it might be a picture of myself if this goes on. Then i think, how pathetic, what if im just projecting my real adult life onto this cartoon? Like the more i watch the more i seem to empathize with steven. What if watching it is making me feel worse about a normal situation in my life? Am i actually angry or am i making myself angry because i feel like i should be angry? What if this mother daughter dynamic i have is a new thing and im just projecting my fears of eldest daughter syndrome and whatever steven has onto my own past and onto myself? I understand connecting with media and everything, as a hyperfixator, im well aware of that. But this is a whole new type of connection for me and im worried if im taking it too far? Im sorry this is rambly. Im wondering if anyone has any insight on the matter?

whether or not hes done drugs is based on absolutely nothing besides how im feeling in that moment. either hes the designated driver and sober friend forever or he got fired from his job after doing a line at work during graveyard with some random customers theres no inbetween (this absolutely happened @ waho. if dave works at waho hes a mess of a person and thats on the diner itself.)

ok look i hc dave w/schizophrenia besides when i was 14 i had a hyperfixation with learning about it and then at 16 was prescribed a medication and had side effects so wack my therapist genuinely thought 14 yr old me was onto something and its a weird way to cope with the idea that lady put in my head that i might “develop it in my twenties” which i turn 20 this year and i havent been able to stop obsessing and panicking over the prospect so PLEASE dont come in my inbox calling me ableist im not out here all harley quinn in suicide squad with the voices ok hes medicated, he goes to therapy, the hard fast delusion that lil cal was nearly sentient and informed bro of every single thing dave did no matter how asinine it was is no longer a debilitatingly affecting him ANYWAYS

i actually use the chicken/egg farming family pretty often just because its hilarious to me to give dave like. an actual mom and dad. hes literally an uncle to like three different kids he just never visits because they make fun of his skinny jeans and he hates one of his (incredibly bare-bones ocs all of them) brothers who threatened to bash his head in with a little league bat after dave broke his star wars lego set apart on accident (but not rlly) so their parents were like “why dont you stay with your brother in the big city for a lil while champ” and then they just never picked him back up? and thats on favoritism 

the other one is that his name is actually david reed and hes the middle child of a family of three who literally live the standard golden retriever white middle class life only they went to disney land or something equally as dumb one year when dave was like 6 and he wandered off so bro literally just went “huh free game” because frankly he was an idiot who thought maybe i should take this kid home because its real dangerous in parking lots and then it was too late to NOT have it seem like a kidnapping and thats why daves never had a summer job, seen his birth certificate, or gone to school. but vaguely remembers what kindergarten was like and having a pet dog and calling someone mom as a kid. 

im not making a bullet point about his sex life headcanons just use your imagination and acknowledge the fact bro essentially worked within the sex industry and i enjoy putting dave through trauma as a catharsis 

i stopped doing this one usually but if he did go to school hes been in percussion since fifth grade and played the drums in his high schools jazz band as well as various edgy teenager garage bands he likes to pretend dont have a youtube presence and that hes absolutely never been shirtless in front of plenty of his classmates because he wore a hoodie to a show like an idiot. idk occasionally ill put him in an actual band he doesnt hate but keeps separate from his lil turntechGodhead internet persona (which i will ALSO touch upon in a sec) until they wind up getting looped into a tour with some bigger named band that has a show in *insert beta kid here*’s city and hes gotta come clean solely so he can visit his online friend. sorry derseasterous thats the one time weve ever run into each other and i made him have a crush on one of his bandmates i was in my anti-daverose phase where i made dave a hoe and also didnt want to admit i still loved the ship all these years later 

i hate it so much but you know the whole vr loli trap voice shit that was popular a while ago? hes fucking baller at it for some reason. he did it as a joke while talking to bro and they both about shat their pants. if im feeling real ambitious, hes got a separate soundcloud solely dedicated to doing dumbass rap covers or making his own but in the voice under the pseudonym elizabeth “beth” davids that he will never admit is his. well, he will, but hes gonna be really fucking embarrassed about it. irony or not.

talking abt seperate soundclouds and stuff ive always had it where turntechGodhead was his like. essentially internet fucking persona facade shit he used because we all had that phase where we wanted memorable urls and stuff but also didnt want to totally ignore the nagging fear of people finding you in real life, until it turned into real life ppl finding you on the internet. so he also has basically an adjacent set of social media under the same name but its just a boring username i havent decided on so everyone he knows irl doesnt mix up with what hes made for himself as TG and the people he knows as TG dont know what highschool he goes to. (this occasionally comes with the territory of ppl on parp being pissed that daves “lying” or “hiding things” from his friends as if he was doing it out of spite instead of just keeping embarrassing tagged photos and videos from football games or when he ate shit at the skatepark from fucking with his “rap career”)

every once in a while i get on a kick where hes just german. like, i just replace houston texas with hamburg germany and have him apply to a university in whatever state is applicable for whoever im chatting with and it goes from there? sometimes he moved when he was little and went through the whole visa thing, sometimes he didnt go through the visa thing, sometimes hes a dual citizen because of family and shit, its all dependent on what suits the situation best. 

one that ive been fucking with for a while but hardly break out (until recently with like 5 roses in the span of one day hell yeah) is that he has a neighbor at the end of the hall who is like a thousand year old witch lady that hes basically adopted as his mother figure in lieu of not having one and shes totally cool with it, especially bc when she kicks the bucket she fully plans on giving dave all her occult stuff so her figure-skating coach and realtor daughter doesnt sell it at a garage sale and lets it all go to waste. she also once brought rose up by name in a conversation without any prompting of her existence which dave didnt realize for days, and then one time cryptically stopped and stared at an empty space in the wall, went “she has potential, you know.” then looked at him sitting on her kitchen counter with a smile “lots of it” and hes thought about that weekly ever since. (it is important to note one of the occult items he leaves her is literally her own personal book of shadows shes been filling out for decades its like a 600 page leatherbound book dave has no idea what its used for but the sheer amount of homemade spells and etc in it is like. gonna murder rose the second this chick gets her hands on it i promise you.)

theres the standard strife shit? im not rlly gonna get into those theyre all basically cookie cutter bullshit. its just standard bro and dave abuse talk. i like to inclulde the whole 24hr live cam up in the apartment that definitely watches dave in every room besides his own and the bathroom, but that quickly delves into the prospect of middle-aged men stalking him online and basically sexually harassing him in his own god damn home by talking about how they can see him just trying to take his shoes off in the living room after getting home and frankly? its not one of my best takes! but once you throw it into the headcanon bin, its there forever. 

he actually really does do something with his photography but not enough to warrant anything exciting, but he has his own branding for it and regularly takes pictures of his friends or anything else he thinks is moderately interesting enough to take pictures of, but those are just thrown into shoeboxes under his bed in favor of posting genuine shots because he wants to keep his image intact and blurry photos of jade smiling in the tree they climbed up together while bec paws at the base of it while whining isnt exactly something he wants the whole world to see.

i also pretty often but him into either paleontology OR i put him down as trying to become a mortician because he thinks handing roadkill once he graduated from museum giftshop specimens to doing his own taxidermy on the side has prepared him enough to perform an occasional autopsy and start embalming real human corpses. (sometimes i put my own desires in and make them his bc i have to project at some point and put him through the same EMT course i dropped out of bc it was one semester and he already has pretty decent first aid skills, but he definitely didnt expect it to be as fucking wild at times as it is, but whats he gonna do? get a job back at waffle house? the company hes working for just offered to pay like half his associates in paramedicine tuition and hes already got all his pre-recs done when he started for paleo. at least its a stable job and hes got the ability to be compassionate in the moment) 

im running out of things that ive done to the poor kid. OH 

hes not a virgin he had a girlfriend all four years of high school (shes also one of his optional and designated exes plz keep up) and their relationship ends in one of two ways: she dies in a car accident a week before their high school graduation, or she stops talking to him entirely a week after their high school graduation until a couple years later she gets into (guess what) a car accident with her current wife/girlfriend and dies which leaves behind their daughter. who just so happens to also be daves daughter. her name is hannah and i love her like my own but no one ever likes her and thats on the conditioning of dirk. does dave end up taking her in? yes. shes awesome and the first time he takes her to the park to like run off some fucking steam she disappears for two minutes and dave is moderately terrified until she comes back holding a dead baby squirrel and thats the moment he realizes huh maybe things really do be genetic.

ok at the bottom of the list im gonna add the couple of times hes been a camboy which usually coincides with the live apartment cam thing and the amount of people in his dms calling him hot or whatever, but typically its more of a started the day he turned 18 and basically dipped around 20 in favor of showing up randomly with no warning to complain about a video game dick in hand because it gives him an outlet that wont annoy his friends bc this is the fifteenth time hes had a lot to say this week about a certain boss battle and also the comments fuel his ego and daddy issues.

the last one wasnt the bottom but literally unless its explicitly proven otherwise every time anyone rps with me there is the underlying fact dave strider was a goalie on his high school lacrosse teams all four years and (shocker another one) definitely had the hots for one of his teammates like major hots like first gay experience hots. like it was painfully obvious that teammate also liked him back hots. like one night at a team sleepover one of the other guys was like can yall just makeout and get it over with were fucking tired and dave really had the balls to be offended and ask what the fuck they were talking about while literally sitting halfway in the mans lap bc for some reason they had to share the same chair. 

he is also guilty until proven innocent of being the worlds biggest loner outside of that sports team and even though hes literally a jock he still opts to eat his lunch alone in the hallway or something like that and has a tendency to leave girls on read, but bc hes got an in with the rest of the jocks hes basically drug around to plenty of parties and since hes conventionally attractive enough and popular in the aloof way that he is, hes got plenty of tagged insta posts and twitter directs and snapchat streaks going.

camp miniwaka au uwu

ty rachel u icon! this is probably gonna be the next thing i’ll work on (and after i finish this ask imma yeet to go finish this oneshot bc im so sick of not having it done. but if anyone wants to send more feel free!). 

so in this au peter and sam don’t know each other! peter lives in san diego and not oceanside, and his parents just got a divorce and while he’s not shocked that it happened, it’s still a shitty situation and he’s not dealing with it very well. aka he’s repressing everything and just watching movies instead of hanging out with friends (which... he doesnt really have any) or going to a therapist like his mom wants him to. so p much his tía tells his mom abt this summer camp nearby called camp miniwaka, and it seems like a good way to have peter make some friends he can open up to and have fun thats not staying in the movie theaters. she’s like u can do this or therapy but like... dont bottle shit in and say everything’s fine bc thats kinda of why i was in that relationship so long and im worried about you. and peters like well..... i dont want to go to therapy and this will be a waste of my time but whatever it’s like a week i can deal with it for a week if it makes my mom happy

so peter thinks this is gonna be all bullshit but then his bunkmate sam is actually p cool and nice (they bond over hating their camp counselor, alex trimbolli, movies, sam invites him to have lunch with him, etc,) and like also Gay. so eventually he finds himself opening up to sam about stuff, as well as dylan (at one point they all get super high bc dylan used the kitched to make edible brownies and they eat it without knowing and sams like hell yeah while peter’s going whathteufkcuewhathfuck bc he was literally telling his mom he doesnt wanna go to oceanside Stoner Central bc hes gonna get addicted to weed elkgnknergerg).

not really sure what my conclusion should be from realizing that if i wasnt actively involved in online fandom spaces and posting and talking about bandom stuff all the time then it would be a lot easier to just . engage with friends on the topic and thered be less of a veneer of putting people on pedestals?? because in interpersonal communication with friends that understanding is easier to get across you can talk about what interests you but you’re not building a platform around it that other people can see where then i feel more responsibility to let people not in the know to not just get lured in by my even unintentionally idolizing by nature of just posting in fandom spaces when i’m excited about something. not sure on what to do with thinking about how these dynamics shift either personally or like. what that even entails on a wider scale but i keep thinking about it. i wonder if “fandom” could ever be different or if a community built around a common interest (and especially in this context, an interest that involves real people neither of us know, although certainly this can apply to any media interest even if people are less directly invested in the creators themselves more so than like . people being interested in idk. knitting) could ever not tend towards this. that also makes me think about how would the way people engage with entertainment/media interests change in a world where we arent as structurally isolated in a variety of ways. i think about that a lot obvs in other contexts already but never really connected that to this train of thought.
