i started listening to the first shannon hale eah book on my walk earlier and it's so good. hale you mad bitch <3!!!!!!!

relatedly, how frustrated she gets at the end of her first chapter that people are only gonna grade her on being a good snow white based on how pretty she is and not on how hard she's studying to be a good ruler. very very juicy very interesting characterisation very interesting take for a snow white character. but also. the chapter starts with her naming the dwarves by derogatory nicknames ("my name is frank," pouty said poutily) and the narrative itself superimposing her names onto them in the dialogue tags. SO FUCKING GOOD. APPLE YOU SILLY BITCH.

hale's distate for apple's dad bleeding into the description i looooove it. "keeping a hand on the hilt of his blade as if ready for battle at a moment's notice, but of course he had never been in battle. his only claim to fame was falling in love with a comatose woman in a glass coffin in the woods" damn hit him again for me!!!!!

BUT this coming from apple's pov???? EXQUISITE!!!!!! god that's so fucking INTERESTING and really doubles down on her looking up to her mam and wanting to be the best ruler she can be, because no one's gonna help her out later! i haven't gotten to apple interacting with daring yet, but that's gonna be such an interesting lens to read their relationship through as well if she considers his role in the story like. repulsive!

back to apple, i liked the little detail about snow having this squeaky high pitched voice, and apple musing that being stranded in the woods with the squirrels may have done a number on her. i think she gives a length of time there, either weeks or months? i hadn't considered that being part of the snow white legacy, that's interesting ! especially after thinkng of her dad as a useless bum ass nobody like 😭

looooove getting raven's introspection around her mam. the mirror scene at the start is so so good. ugh then when she's talking to apple and she notices how slouchy and unkempt she is next to her. and she tries standing properly but she knows she comes off as too tall, too gaunt comparatively. and then she reprimands herself like 'stop comparing yourself to her, that's probably how mom turned out the way she did' AUGH ? that being the first indicator that raven can understand how that path unfurls in front of her, how she could easily take those same steps. sooo juicy

also looove her relationship with baba yaga so far. it's really interesting that baba yaga is compared/contrasted to raven's mam, i wanna keep an eye on how that relationship develops

baba yaga using an actual spray bottle on raven when she starts voicing rebel thoughts PLEASE‼️ raven grumpily looking into the princess' advisor office (run by the white queen! cute detail) where theyre given tea and plush chairs and noticing that there isn't a spray bottle in sight. MWAH.

oh ! and the detail about it being maddie who asks raven point blank "if you weren't destined to be the evil queen, you would...?" as part of this wonderland word game that she doesn't think anything more of, but raven is left speechless because she's never been allowed to consider it before. really sweet moment between them! :)

im like an hour into this 6.5hr audiobook. the voice actor is doing a wonderful job, i really like her voices for raven and apple in particular so far. i definitely wanna keep going on it! i will listen to it on walks i think :^)

Hello, you all voted for follow-ups and draft roulette to be the plan for my 2k celebration 🎉

SO the way draft roulette works is I will provide summaries or descriptions or tropes of 10 drafts I have (all in various stages). I will do this over the course of a few days so that whoever wins the first poll is not included in the second poll, and so on. Yesterday was the first day and the draft with Eris's hounds knowing you're pregnant won!! I also removed draft 10 (clumsy drunk Eris) because while it is fun, the finished writing will likely be about ~1k words, and I want to prioritize some longer fics.

:D Sure! Here are some of my favorite lesser-known old mond facts:

1- According to the ingame book A Drunkard’s Tale, a wind spirit shapeshifted into a fox and snuck into a pile of apples, causing yeast to grow and therefore fermenting the apples, creating the first known instance of wine in (Old) Mondstadt. While the identity of aforementioned wine spirit is unknown, it could potentially be venti (which would make a lot of sense considering how he’s currently such a good fan of wine and apples)

2- Slightly less unknown, but wind spirit venti is canonically mentioned as an “elf” multiple times. Which is interesting, considering how many people give venti/barbatos elf ears for fun without knowing that that is technically canon

3- Amos is described in her bow’s lore description as walking barefoot in the snow. There is no explanation given as to why or how she does that

4- Not super obscure, but Amos and the Nameless Bard are both implied to be left handed from the way they hold their bow and lyre respectively

5- Decarabia (Decarabian’s Ars Goetia counterpart) is the 69th demon of the Ars Goetia, which I just find pretty funny

So I had a couple of general questions about the world of Bethroned, if that’s ok?

1. How is the weather? Is it the same in both kingdoms or does one kingdom have better weather than the other? Does that affect the fauna/flora?

2. I know that to survive the humans need food and shelter, so most of their jobs I imagine fall under farming, fishing, building houses, etc. But what about the citizens of Atomata? What are their duties and needs? Do they have a farm where they "plant" or build devices that absorb energy to power up their citizens? How do the citizens keep their kingdoms running?

3. In both kingdoms there are some villages close to the front lines, how are they being affected by the fighting?

4. What are the main exports/imports of both kingdoms?

5. This is the last one, promise. Besides marriage what other responsibilities did Sun and Moon have as Princes to their kingdom? Did they have to go visit the towns and check on the well-being of their citizens? Attend council (war) meetings? What other duties did they have?

AAAA YAY IM SO GLAD YOURE ASKING THESE QUESTIONS I LOOOVE ANSWERING THEM!!

1. Automata is a bit warmer than porphyal. Think Canada vs America. The Porphyal capital is an incredibly rainy city, while the Automata capital tends to have very mild weather. In general both kingdoms get all kinds of weather, sun, rain, snow, etc. it does vary between the areas more though. Like how it’s colder up in the mountains!

2. You got it exactly right! A lot of their work involves working on and building Solar, water, and other sources of renewable energy. A farmer in automata’s job would be to “plant” Solar crops that take in the sun and turn it into energy to send to the capital, while keeping some for their own village to be run on!

3. They’re towns dedicated to the cause mostly, with things like places for soldiers to get healed up or rest, or for generals to plan things. Very few children or families in these towns, and could honestly be considered just very large military camps.

4. Energy/plastic/metal from Automata, and lumber/textiles/art from Porphyal!

5. They do both of those yes!! Sun’s duties revolved mostly around the military side of things after he went to the front lines. Moon handled most (if not almost all) other duties. During the winters he would visit a few towns, but most of his duties involved education, attending meetings, diplomacy, stewardship preparation, swordsmanship & defensive training, etc. he had a LOT to do. Sun would also be doing these things, but on the front lines he was learning them from Monty. Who wasn’t exactly what I’d call.. the most educated teacher

I might be applying for a PhD program in Germany next year and I was wondering if there was anything about Germany that's normal for natives but foreigners are confused about that you'd like to share? For instance, I was once told virtually nothing in Germany opens on Sundays, things like that <3

that's correct yeah, definitely get your shopping done BEFORE sundays and official holidays, because all stores will be closed. that includes places like pharmacies and doctor's offices! if you have a medical emergency on a weekend it's basically like having one in the middle of the night, so you'll have to find your local emergency numbers to call. the only places that ARE open on sundays/holidays are gas stations and some kiosks, so if you just need drinks and/or snacks, you're fine.

you can return at stores with Pfandautomaten. theyre machines in grocery stores that you can feed your bottles/cans into, and they print a receipt that you hand over at the register, and youll get a little bit of money back. depending on what it was, it can be like 25 ct per can or something. its money you already paid when you bought it, so you dont get free money or anything, but its nice. also my non-german spouse just loves standing in front of those machines and watching.

our infrastructure is pretty bad in comparison to, like, most other industrialized places lol. its highly unlikely that there will be public wifi where you are, so get set up with a sim card asap. reception/data might still be pretty bad if youre not in a big city. the plus side of how backwards we still are about many things is that germans still looove cash. there will be places that do not take cards. usually its smaller places like bakeries or a farmers market stand. but it will happen

do go to a bakery whenever you can. you can get bread rolls for 30 cents and entire loaves for 3 bucks. theyre good!

there will be no a/c unless youre in a store or in a place with properly funded trains/trams. no residential buildings have a/c. i will be very surprised if your university does

if youre moving into any sort of student housing deal you might not have to deal with this, but if you're going to rent an apartment here, chances are it won't have a kitchen, and potentially it won't have flooring either. you have to get that yourself. it then ~belongs to you~ and you can take it with you when you move again, or try to sell it to the next tenant, and apparently people think that thats a good way to do this? i dunno lol. you can get kitchens at ikea. i'm sorry.

i'm not entirely sure where you're from, but if you don't get cold winters there then it might be worth to read up generally on how to dress for central european winters. you're not going to get fully snowed in unless you're moving all the way south to the alps, but we get snow sludge pretty much everywhere, and temperatures will drop to around 0° celsius.

april and may will feel crazy. you'll get 27°c one day and a thunderstorm will cool things down to 10° the next day.

most people speak english! we learn it in school. some will be apprehensive to do it, many will have a thick accent. but you will probably get through to people if your german isn't solid enough yet.

over time simon does learn how to fetch. he loooves his hard toys and usually when he chewing on one of his hard toys you guys are doing sort of like, parallel play i guess. he gets really into chewing so while he's busy with that you do whatever task/craft/hobby your enjoy and when simon decides he's done with his toy he'll come find you. but sometimes he gets bored, but he doesn't want to stop chewing so he'll come find you with his toy.

it starts out with him just wanting you to hold the toy while he chews on it. but then one day he just stops chewing on it while you're holding it and just sits back on his haunches, looking up at you. as his owner, everyday is about learning. learning what he likes, what he doesn't like, how to handle him in certain situations. but the same thing goes for simon too, he's learning and figuring things out about himself and about the world while he's in puppy space. so he lets go off the toy just to kind of see what will happen next. and with him just sitting there you decide to throw it to see what he'll do. when he crawls across the room to retrieve it you're praising him and giving him head scratches when he returns the toy back to you, smiling at the way his body shakes.

and i've never thought about how things you guys do for each other in human space translates to puppy space but oh my god is that fucking perfect. human simon has a habit of wanting to be useful and functional. sometimes he does get a little insecure of his place in your life so he tries to do stuff to make himself seem worth it (you can fit so much trauma in that boy). so yeah, human simon does stuff like help you put on your coat and he grabs your snow boats out from the closet when the first snowfall hits, but when simon is in puppy space those things become your job!

you guys don't go out very often when simon is in puppy space because he doesn't really like to be in public when he's in that headspace but you guys have figured out that short walks around your neighborhood are fine with him. so when the first snow starts coming down you crouch down with him on the floor and tie his boots up and you cradle his head in your hands, covering his face in kisses before slipping his balaclava over his head. you tug a beanie on, making sure it covers his ears and then you help him slip on his coat. and lastly before you guys leave, you slip on his black mittens (he likes them a lot because it makes him feel like he has paws).

you walk arm and arm down the sidewalks, you with a running commentary about your surroundings and whatever else comes to mind. he doesn't speak, obviously, but he's such an expressive boy, his eyes always telling you what he's thinking and feeling <3

i thiiiiiink our ideal date is warm big jackets, scarfs and gloves while walking hand in hand on snowy days. i especially looove winter, kento doesn’t (complains it’s way to cold smh) but deep inside, i think he secretly likes winter and snowy days because it gives him more reason to snuggle me against him. even if we are walking around the city. so he always puts my hand in his pockets when we are walking and pulls me in to his side and finds me veryyyy cute seeing my nose and cheeks flushed because of the cold. kento is ALWAYS the one to suggest we match attire! wether it be the scarf, gloves or heck even the thick sweater hihi >< on our walks he always asks how I like this snowy weather and of course I answer that winter is simply the best season because you get to dress up in warm knitted clothes without having to think about if you’re gonna get a heatstroke like one probs does during summer 🤕 he then buys me chocolate with whipped cream and gets himself some coffee, laughs when I take a sip of his coffee and groan in disgust. oh! after our walks, i write our initials in the snow while kneeling down then suddenly I flop down on the snow because kento had the audacity to (gently) push me then I throw snow at him! hihi this was so fun to visualise I love it and love this question 🥹
