Honestly I don't think I'm qualified to make this post, I just don't know if I can make coherent enough words man. But the thoughts are in there and I will try to articulate them. This is probably going to be mostly images though. anyway yeah KABRU POST.

A couple nights ago (at approximately 2:30am, lasting a little over half an hour) I had a bit of a moment about Kabru. That, too, was mostly images- most of what you see in this more concise post were presented then as well. I think my main points of the "moment" were about Kabru's trauma + self hatred, his autism and/or general otherness, and also a little labru if you'd like..

I think something easy to start with is I wanna point out Kabru's constant back and forth and conflicting opinions of demihumans and how, I believe, thats a reflection of how he goes back and forth on what he believes his purpose of living is- and the general worth of his own life. I've said it before and i've just kinda shown it in images; Kabru is "i think im a monster and it disgusts me" where Laios is "I know im a human and it disgusts me" (i could go more into the latter on another post)

the above are both from the world bible, with the left being from the section on kobolds and the right being from the section on Kuro specifically. Utaya was very near to the desert where most of the kobold population is, this is likely why Kabru is able to speak Kuro's language- he grew up around demihumans. (chapter 48 cover, kobold chapter in the world bible) I won't try to speak for how his mother or the rest of utaya felt about the kobolds but I can say that Kabru was very much othered as a child, as was his mother, purely for the way her son's (kabru) eyes looked.

I feel like its fair enough to say that both kabru and the kobolds were othered, and possibly for similar reasons (villager's seeing them as nonhuman, as monsters) and the fact that Kabru learned their language probably didn't help his case. I think his perception of kobolds (and all demihumans, subsequently himself, as he probably still views himself as nonhuman or not human enough.. deep down) was damaged by the Utaya incident. at 2:30am when I first started this ramble my main comment was that "had the utaya incident not happened kabru would have little reason to feel ashamed for his connection to monsters. and may have ended up similar to laios in that he couldve had otherkin swag" which is just a sort of silly way of saying Kabru could've learned to love the thought that he is possibly nonhuman or at least not hated himself so much for it.

in the original ramble I said, and quote, "he has been STALKING laios. laios is his hyperfixation to learn how he can ever be loved. he keeps going back and forth so harshly on wether or not he wants to kill Laios and he clearly sees his survival from utaya not as an unfortunate trauma [*] but as a necessary, deserved fate. a punishment for his mother's witchy sins, and for his sin of being non-human. to atone for it all, to apologize for being alive, he tries to better the lives of all humanity. He was set on his way to dethrone the governor of the island . do you understand? im going insane" *i also said somethings about the way he processes other people's traumas and not his own. He's able to understand and even help some people, but he struggles to process his own issues and see himself as worthy of love and life.

^some examples of Kabru being understanding of or helping others who have suffered greatly. I think its also worth mentioning that with Rin (called "Lynn" in that translation) he says "I wish there was a way to get her out of this" though he's insisted and pushed for himself to go into a dungeon;

In chapter 94, Mithrun says "The desire I had left wasn't revenge. All I wanted.. was for it to finish devouring me." and I don't feel like it's a stretch to say Kabru was in a similar situation. Mithrun sought out the demon with no plan on how to kill something like that because deep down he wanted it to end his (Mithrun's) own life, to finish the trauma it caused and kill him. I think Kabru went into the dungeon in part with the hopes that it'd kill him. That the same thing that destroyed Utaya and caused him so much trauma would just.. finish him.

I just think Kabru is a beautifully complex character, I have a lotta thoughts on him and I don't see nearly as many analysis posts for him than I do Laios (despite labru being such a popular ship)

Any thoughts on Mickbell and/or Kuro? They're honestly some of my faves and it's hard to find stuff on them T_T

They both have had rough backgrounds and suffered a lot so they have this co-depedant relationship that while they pretend like its "Boss and Bodyguard" they cleary care deeply about it each other.

I love how responsible and down to earth Kuro is compared to how we see him in the series. As someone whose first language isn't english I can relate to sounding way less smart when speaking in your second language lmao. Now I'm much better but when I just started I sounded really silly, and even today some people have the "are you stupid" reaction when I don't know a word that should be obvious or misspell things, I understand you Kuro 😔

Honestly a nice reminder that language proficiency is not an indicator for intelligence, wish it was more obvious in the anime/story itself since every time Kuro speaks to Kabru in Kobold is in an extra.

Oh yeah also fun fact Milsiril was the one to teach Kabru how to speak Kobold. Its implied in an extra. While they come from the same continent I doubt Kabru would know kobold just for that.

About Mickbell its very interesting how he's the complete opposite of chilchuck, he LOVES being treated as a kid and doesn't seem to have much of a pride

It's hard to remember how old he is because he's so childish, it's a great choice for a half-foot after we had only met Chilchuck if you ask me. Cause even adults in real life can be childish sometimes, the fact he also LOOKS like a child to us makes it even harder to see him as the adult he is, you can't keep getting away with things by being cute Mickbell <3 (he can).

Also his dream is to buy a house for him and Kuro, I don't think there's any doubt their relationship is based in mutual affection, even if Mickbell pretends he's Kuro's boss (and that he should be more respectfull), they're both the only one the other has when it comes to family.My thoughts

They're silly, cute, and hot. They come in so many different colors and styles; Fur, scales, a mix of both, I've even seen some with feathers. Truly natures little gachas.

I love that they are small and easy to dominate, but also that they can easily dominate me in a big enough group. I love that they come with a tail for pulling and biting while I stuff them with my knot, and handlebars for when I'm fucking their faces. I love the taste and smell of their holes and cock when I'm going down on them. I love using them as a cocksleeves and fucktoys being as rough as I want to be, but also tenderly making love to them cause they deserve gentleness just as much as they deserve to be broken and made into a cum filled mess.

the mecha dragon has those distinct kind of eyelids and eyelashes (and theyre both very pretty)

diverse mix between hard (limb plating, armored(?) pelvis structure) and soft (upper-arm covers, fluid in the neck) components

background detail gives real presence to the mecha dragon

mecha dragon's purpose/implied narrative alone is really interesting

the girls playing dnd because I also play it!

disposable: very new to the game, has only played in one or two campaigns so far. she likes using classes with high charisma (warlocks, bards) and plays as elves, tieflings, genasi and the like to feel a bit prettier i guess(?). she likes playing as chaotic good.

irreverent: shes obsessed with meta tbh. her characters are absolutely BROKEN; she often plays wizards, druids or blood hunters (I would like to play one of those someday...it looks fun...)

Her favourite races to play as are warforged and anything from the feywild (elves, fairies, satyrs and the like. She also likes dragonborns and kobolds.)

Co often DMs, and Co loves to put puzzles in her dungeons...much to the party's dismay.

splitter: girlie only makes joke characters only to then give them the most horrifying lore. she enjoys playing as bards and rogues, mainly, but she has also liked warlocks. she picks any race that looks good as an anime girl, but like. chaotic. (she likes tieflings and goblins a lot.) she plays as chaotic neutral or evil mostly. when she's the DM, you know the story will get fucked up.

faineant: certified warforged player!!! she also likes gnomes and orcs. sometimes she'll pull up with the most obscure homebrew race and an even more obscure homebrew class. she spends HOURS looking at the dnd wiki. as a DM, she's pretty good too, most of her stories are in a steampunk-ish setting, or science fiction, and they get very silly. (legends of avantris level silly)

caliber: barely makes it to dnd sessions due to work. her character is probably some sort of cleric or articifier because she likes the versatility of the class and the magic stuff. (and the gun theme has to be somewhere.) in regards of races she usually picks changelings or shifters. she also likes playing as druids. her alignment is chaotic good. she does it mostly for escapism from work; and also, she's an excellent DM.

chocolate box: LOVES silly little guy races; kenku, tieflings, kobolds, halflings, dragonborns or harengorns (rabbit people.) He WILL play barbarians, paladnins or bards, and Only that. she's just starting out, but she'd love to make her own campaign someday.

taxidermy: animal classes enjoyer. she played as bugbears, satyrs, harengorns, tabaxis, owlins, dragonborns, the monkey people race I played as once, you name it. she plays "chaotic neutral" which ends up fading into chaotic good. she likes to try a new class each campaign, and often subclasses. she likes druids, sorcerers and wizards the most.

chemical: just got into playing, as a recommendation by splitter girl (I hc they're friends). she's a bit indecisive on what to play as, but she chose a fighter dragonborn and plays as true neutral. her stats suck a little bit because she's new but she's trying her best.

I've started watchin Dungeon Meshi with a buddy (I will get to the manga I promise I jus gotta work on my backlog first T-T)

I'm only on ep 7 (mimic monching) but omg I am in love. I hope u don't mind my rambling/first impressions.

My absolute favourite is chilchuck, he is jus a desperate little guy and if his tools get turned into forks one more time he might actually go into cardiac arrest. I want to shake him about and call him kiddo jus to make fun of him.

Laois is my fave autistic fella. No 'neurotypical' person reacts that strongly to wantin to eat armour and paintings. I would 1000% make him worse and jus hype him up to eat the most nonsensical things. Raw parasite nibbler smh

I adore Senshi! He's livin the life we all wish we had. Stuck in the great unknown creating farms, feedin kelpie and eating everything that even tries to move in his peripherals. He is very much a Bear and I cackle everytime Marcille shrieks at his antics.

Marcille is a sweet gal. I shake my head everytime she squeals at having to eat monsters or panicking over silly things like life threatening diseases in parasites lmao. But the comraderie I feel when she shrieks at bugs and runs from weird crawly things. The mood is real. I too would fireball anything with more than 4 legs. T-T

There's also Kabru (thank you tumblr for name info by osmosis). I have seen him all of 3 times but he is very pretty and oh so hopeless. Bless his soul.

The "kobold" scares me. Please tell me he is not a kobold, Laois. He is a dog thing. Please. Please I am not ready for fluffy kobolds

laois being autistic too like. phenomenal. irs so insanely well done. its just. so fucking good n how it makes him out as a character n how hes seen by others, its so just... its so REAL. i see him n im like oh fuck thats me. n how his autism comes into play later in. in terms of his experiences being 'othered' and not relating to or being able to identify w other people easily.... ouagh.

I don't remember much since it's been like. 3 years since I watched tensura season 1 but I love him because. With the context you know that he doesn't, you see this guy pull up to the protag all high and mighty thinking they need him, when it's really him that needed them.

He was green in S1 but then he got uhh purple. I don't remember why. With the purple he got wings also. Epic for him and his little group of fan boys. Did I mention he has like 2/3 fanboys? Absolutely amazing.

He's a very side character (at least from S1-3 of which I've watched) so he doesn't show up much unfortunately 💔 but he's my like. 3rd fave character in tensura other than Milim. And Rimuru. I think. I don't remember my opinions on this anime good.

I legit have 49 pages left and things are not calming down at all so like so much for falling action Spoilers below, friends!

Well okay we've officially gone to war! Yaaay! IT's only book nine and this is Drizzt's fourth war like my guy's not even seventy yet cut him some slack. But I do love reading the war scenes. I think Salvatore handles them so well, and he manages to foster such chaos while also making everything coherent and unified. Props, man, could never do that.

And Regis!!! Him fighting kobolds with his little mace, and looking for spots when his friends need help!! He's changed a lot, but not all of it is bad! And okay. After ALL THIS, Catti and Drizzt need to kiss. It's not okay to keep delaying it like WHAT ARE WE DOING YOU BOTH GOT PAST YOUR TRAUMA NOWPLEASE JUST KISS

So yeah. I'm outraged. BUT THERE'S MORE

Alustriel. FREAKING ALUSTRIEL. She's some big, powerful mage who's like as old as dust and super super powerful. And then she throws like three fireballs and she's like "oh that's all for me guys" like WHAT. NO IT IS NOT. I just really, really hate her.

But it's okay, because I've gotten to see plenty Harkle action! Like I think I'd die for that man he's just so silly and cute.

And no more Gromph, or even Jarlaxle. That makes me sad but it's okay because we do get some Quenthel screen time!! Yet another very unimportant side character who I love wholeheartedly. Like Quenthel can step on me that's fine in fact please do.

any name suggestions?? hes just a guy that smelled senshi's cooking and immediately tried to get into the party because damn... Anything sounds better than the shitty rations he haphazardly threw into his pack.

Quick fire random facts:

His fur is short but very soft, he feels like a 3 month old puppy texturally despite being around 38

he needs weight on his chest to sleep well and having pressure on his body is generally comforting for him

he doesn't mind eating strange things as long as they taste good (he's the kinda guy that would try anything once, plus he understands being desperate and having to make things work)

he had a wife (divorced) and a daughter he took care of until she moved out to live with her girlfriend.. so now he is just wandering around aimlessly without any goals, trying to make money and keep in touch with his daughter

hates when people touch him without his consent, especially if they are one of the fully human races (elf, half-foot, etc) trying to pet him/treat him like a dog

The only exception to this rule is senshi (old man yaoi? old man dog yaoi??)

I wish I could send images while anonymous... if u want I can send u the two little doodles I have of him in dms ..? If ur dms r open and ur comfortable with it, imagine a fat short-haired kobold with black, white, and brown fur idk he has black around his face, ears, and down his back, and white where the black ends, and then the rest is dull brown almost grey (with his eyes closed)

I absolutely, positively, totally love this. like. dungeon meshi has SUCH a silly little world and I love serious OCs just as much as I love the silly ones…

BUT OKAY. BAM. LOVE THIS A LOT SO FAR. LET ME GIVE YOU A BACKSTORY IDEA FOR HIM. And some questions to think of

His life before dungeon crawling. Did he live in a typical kobold village? What drove him to take up dungeon crawling (besides money. Was it because the entrance to the Island dungeon was found and Gold stripping became popular and easyish money?)

Why did he and his wife get divorced? How does this affect his relationship with Senshi?

Plus, how do they deal with the language barrier if applicable and the long lived versus short lived life?

And as for backstory ideas on how he meets the party before smelling Senshi’s cooking, I think a good idea would maybe be like…the rest of his party died and he didn’t feel like waiting for the corpse retrievers and decided to finish the job on his own until uh oh! Good ass cooking! (Since he has such a negative view on fully human races anyways and considering how they treat kobolds and don’t value them, maybe this kinda detached approach to dungeon crawling works for him until he becomes close to Laios’s party?)

there is a big marbled gecko that lives in my backyard and appears occasionally on the outside of my house whom i love so much, they have a "shy type" personality but are full of fire and love for eating bugs. it hates the sound of us putting the bins out. once a tumblr user cursed me and a very small gecko appeared in my house.

Just doodling my rpg character and i love them so much. She started as a scared kid who was send with her twin by their mother to become a ruler of a bigger land than their curent one.

Now? She is indeed a ruler. But they also became undead after they got killed by troll or something like that and their love interest begged her deity to let them live. And when they woke up they were like. OMG. Our lives are connected now?? So we're totally wives now!!

And shes just there. Silly ruler eating her enemies (literally) and adopting every kobold she sees

I always described it as "speaking like other kobolds" when I got emotional (doesn't matter what kind of emotion, if my focus became on getting the ideas out, it'd all slip) and I... Don't know if that's actually true? Like, I wasn't raised by kobolds, I was never even around kobolds, the first other kobold I saw was the dude in the circus. Quite literally, I had never seen another kobold in my life before that moment. I'd barely ever seen my own reflection, for that matter! What it really was, though, was broken Common. The goblins I was enslaved with often spoke that way sort of. It was different from how I spoke but most of them were born into slavery, I was captured into it.

Whatever it really was, I never actually processed how harmful it was to myself that I looked down on myself for speaking that way. I always thought to myself "others will look down on you, think you're an uneducated, unthinking, drunkard brute just like other kobolds, you're dragonwrought, you have to be better" and I don't know where that came from. Maybe it was some weird twisting of the good things the kind people who found and hatched my egg taught me through the lens of understanding why the slavers wanted me (because other kobolds have a strong cultural respect for dragonwrought kobolds, thus if I was obedient, they could have a clan of kobold slaves who wouldn't require a lot of work to subjugate) and my own complicated feelings about others of my kind (I wanted to save them from themselves, I knew we could be so much more, I wanted them to know the love I experienced, but I also resented them for the long history of violence and raiding and other shitty behaviors that meant I was looked at with suspicion).

Regardless of the cause of the shame, it was a source of shame for me. I wish I could go back there, pick that silly little kobold-me up (and probably get bitten for my trouble but that's ok), and shake some sense into him because he didn't deserve to hate himself for that. I didn't deserve to hate myself for that. Wyll noticed and tried to teach me to accept it, that it was ok, but I never really learned.

Interestingly, there were a few small exceptions to this. Specific terms I used that were what I would have called "kobold-ish" that I used without hesitation or shame, specifically "egg-lost" (describing how my egg was apparently abandoned or orphaned, used as a descriptor of me, as in "I was egg-lost"), "sky-lost" (similar concept but describing how my wings' growth had been stunted by the slavers, thus rendering me unable to fly until Halsin found a way to fix them, I think Shadowheart helped but it was primarily druidic in nature and happened in the time between what, in the game, are acts 2 and 3), and I think one or two others I can't remember now but I recall them being different because there wasn't an easy way to express those concepts in Common without being overly-wordy. Those words felt like innovation of the language, yet they came from the same place as the "kobold-ish" speech patterns. If only I had noticed and understood that this was part of the fact that it wasn't an unintelligent way of speaking, just a different one.
