Something that SEEERIOUSLY isn’t talked about enough among Rodrigue fans is how Rodrigue (almost? or generally) always refers to Dimitri as “Your/His Highness” except in the moment that Dimitri’s life was at risk right in front of Rodrigue and Rodrigue shielded him with his own body.
Rodrigue is always respectful and aware of their stations, but none of that matters when Dimitri is almost killed. Rodrigue reacts emotionally without station in mind, forgetting to refer to him in an “appropriate” manner and reacting instead in a more intimate manner (i.e. using a person’s name instead of their title).
Most people wouldn’t dare to refer to their prince by their first name, but Rodrigue forgets all that the moment Dimtiri is in danger. He follows up that familial intimacy by calling Dimitri “my boy”. In a way it’s like Rodrigue's formalities are just forced expectations that are ingrained into him, because his actual instinct is to refer to Dimitri in a familial way. If he doesn’t have time to think about what he’s saying, it will be Dimitri’s name that he uses because that’s how he truly thinks of Dimitri.
He doesn’t solely view Dimitri as his prince. He views Dimitri as family, and in a setting where royalty exists, it’s so important to the relationship in question when that societal expectation is broken, simply because it tells you exactly what that character thinks of their royalty.
When royalty’s life is in danger, it would even make sense for people to hesitate because if they do anything, they might also be in danger and generally humans instinctually prioritize their own life (even if they do really want to step in to help). That typically is not the case with humans regarding loved ones, where that instinct instead changes to an instinct where they automatically step in to protect people dear to them - especially parents to their children. Parents - not just in humans but in most forms of life (cats, dogs, etc) - are extremely protective of their children and react without a second - even a first - thought, because it’s not a thought at all when they see their children in danger. It’s a base reaction.
Rodrigue wasn’t witnessing his prince being attacked. He was witnessing his son being attacked, and he reacted as a father would - not as a knight, a vassal or anyone under Dimitri’s station and how they would be expected to react to protect him. Dimitri didn’t have to be his blood son for him to react the same way a blood parent would. Dimitri wasn’t born to him but he was Rodrigue’s son all the same and he couldn’t accept his boy being harmed.
I love that his reaction is exactly the same as what Lambert would have done. I love that in that one moment when he didn’t have time to think about his word choice, such important stations meant absolutely nothing to him. I love that what was important to him was Dimitri the person, and not Dimitri the prince. I love that at the very end, he died knowing his boy was safe and alive. I love that, when he starts reusing “Your Highness”, it’s only after the immediate danger has passed and he has time to actually process his word choice again, because it really drives home how quickly and thoughtlessly he reacted to seeing Dimitri in danger when he dropped formalities to use his first name.
He also didn’t tell him to live for the people or live because he was a prince. He wanted Dimitri to remember to live for himself and likely died with the hope that those being his last words would be taken much more heavily and sincerely, and give Dimitri a lot to think about in regard to caring for himself as a person and not just seeing himself as a prince/future king, because Rodrigue also saw him as a person.
Not only did Rodrigue protect his son (which mind you must have been extremely important to him after already losing a son. Can you imagine how devastated he would be to lose another child? This time he saved a son from death, which he was unable to do previously and he wasn’t present to be able to even try), but he gave Dimitri the thing Dimitri desired the most from those he loved: he treated Dimitri like a regular person who needed to live his own life for himself, and in the single most critical moment to Rodrigue, forgot to use titles and formalities and openly expressed his true feelings just by using Dimitri’s name alone.
Dimitri never liked all those stuffy behaviors and titles. He just wanted to be a person. Rodrigue, his family, gave him that at Rodrigue’s very end, explicitly informing Dimitri that was how this man always thought of him just from that one moment of Rodrigue’s feelings slipping through. He was always keeping up appearances, but Dimitri was always just Dimitri to him.
Also, Rodrigue says “please tell me it wasn’t in vain”. Remember, Rodrigue’s son died in vain. Glenn didn’t actually get to protect Dimitri. Earlier, Rodrigue stated that Dimitri’s injuries left him on the verge of death. Glenn didn’t die protecting him. Glenn died in a tragedy. Nothing Glenn did that day that led to his death actually helped Dimitri survive. Dimitri survived because Gilbert found him in time.
Rodrigue knows that and doesn’t want another person dear to Dimitri to die a death that didn’t need to happen. He also doesn’t want it to be in vain because if it was, he would have died being unable to protect his son. Rodrigue “died for what he believed in”, but he died because he thoughtlessly, without hesitation, died to save his son. He believed in Dimitri, but he also believed Dimitri to be his child as much as Glenn and Felix ever were.
Even though Glenn did die in vain, he attempted to die keeping his best friend alive. He believed in his best friend, just like Lambert believed in his son to be able to saved if he ever went astray.
Before Rodrigue dies, he last thoughts are of Lambert, but also his promise to Lambert, which was about Dimtiri.
Rodrigue was always thinking of his family throughout the whole game (literally, he brings up Felix to Byleth regularly and brings up Glenn throughout the story as well), and that extended to Lambert and Dimtiri. At the very last, he literally died like he lived, and that was for his family.
#DCB Comments#Rodrigue#Rodrigue Achille Fraldarius#I just love that Rodrigue wasn't living solely as the right hand of a king#It wasn't about who was in power that he acted like he did for them#If you notice too he never really talks about Rufus as if he simply doesn't care for him either way#Rufus is still part of the royal family but he doesn't get the same treatment from Rodrigue as Lambert and Dimitri#It's not about ''they're my king and prince''. It's not about being in a slightly lesser station than them that he saved Dimitri#For him it was always about family first and his position after even if HE himself didn't realize that#If Rufus was about to die would Rodrigue die for him? Probably not. He may be a royal but if Rodrigue died for him#he couldn't be alive to watch over the people he actually cares about. Say Rufus was about to die but Lambert and Dimitri weren't even there#Here he wouldn't even have a choice to make of ''do I die for Rufus or live for them''. I think he simply just... wouldn't do it#He might /fight/ to keep him alive but I don't think he would shield Rufus with his own body. That line of thinking makes me think#that again it's not about status. It's about who he considers family and who is important to him just like any other person would react#It's bc he loves those two that he behaves the way he does and does what he does for them. I think if he didn't love the people in power#he wouldn't treat them like he does simply bc they're in power. I think he only treats him like he does bc of affection#Like I really think if Rodrigue had to choose between Faerghus or Dimitri and/or Lambert that he'd pick those two over#Faerghus itself bc tbh Rodrigue is really just like anyone else. He has priorities preferences and biases#I ofc think he'd be torn abt it but I think he'd ultimately choose people he sees as family over anything else#i love you rodrigue achille fraldarius

how do you think dimitri responds to the fraldarius family taking on the mantle of shield?
Honestly I think that as a child he would have been extremely enamored by the idea, especially with how close he is to Felix and Glenn. But because of the Tragedy affecting his perspective on what it means to be a shield with how Glenn basically became a meat shield despite joking about it, he actually grows the resent the concept that it's something that can be viewed so lightly.
Consider that he does view Rodrigue as a father figure, but that while Rodrigue does care for him like a son, Rodrigue still has it somewhere in him that is ready to act as the shield to a liege rather than a father to a son. The fact that this comes to fruition with Rodrigue fatally throwing himself between Fleche's blade and Dimitri's back - literally meat shielding, actually makes Dimitri realize in its aftermath that his perspective is also a little bit selfish. Rodrigue did it because it was more than duty or his promise to Lambert. To safeguard Dimitri, to be a shield for the future of their homeland was as big a part of his self-identity as a Fraldarius as being a fatherly figure, and were Dimitri to resent that, it would be like mocking their fundamental generational identity. Glenn died because he cared, and not just out of duty. No sane man would willingly walk into death without their self-preservation kicking in, especially not out of nothing but duty.
As a result, I feel like Dimitri does subsequently reconcile that such a position is something of a hard truth. It remained a generational identity for all of some 400 years for a reason, instead of becoming obsolete, but that the tradition need not necessarily be to such extremes in every case. Where he can, he begins to emphasize that a shield's duty is to protect, not to break and shatter in the name of protection. To prioritize one's life over throwing it away without a second thought to protect him. Doubly so when you consider that Felix himself shares a similar sentiment about not throwing a life away just to be a shield out of duty, especially after his father and brother died taking it to a logical, yet painful extreme. I would think that this would be a strong basis for how Felix and Dimitri's bond is rekindled following the end of the war, and it actually makes for a far more stable and strong foundation in the new age of peacekeeping.

Lambrigue Kiss on the Hand Drabble
[A while ago I took some kiss requests on twitter. I've shared a bunch of ones for Dimitri and Felix but @koroart requested Lambrigue and I had a great time writing this so I wanted to share it here too. Yes, it's cleaned up and less rough.]
A coronation was like any significant ceremony, Rodrigue reflected as he stood at the head of the assembly of lords from the great houses of the kingdom. The beginning of something and the end of another. In the most obvious case it was the end of an old king’s reign and the beginning of the reign of a new king.
But as Rodrigue watched Lambert kneel in front of Archbishop Rhea, he realized with a melancholic pang that it was also much more personal than that. Lambert would be king and Rodrigue would be his vassal. Lambert would no longer simply be his dearest friend, the light of Rodrigue’s heart; he would belong to everyone in Faerghus as well.
Though Rodrigue had not yet inherited Fraldarius and all the responsibilities that came with it, Lambert’s ascension to the throne signaled the end of their time as carefree young men.
They were no longer the boys who skipped classes at the Academy to sit on the roof of the stables and chat under the sun. They were custodians of the kingdom’s future now.
The Archbishop placed the crown on Lambert’s head, granting him sovereignty over the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus in the eyes of the Church of Serios.
Lambert stood and turned to face the assembly. Tall and strong, resplendent in deep Blaiddyd blue and gray wolf furs, his blond hair and short beard golden in the sunlight streaming through the window, he looked every bit a king.
In spite of his melancholy, pride and affection also filled Rodrigue’s heart, not only for Lambert but for their country. He smiled.
Lambert’s gaze found his and the corner of his beautiful mouth ticked up slightly in a tiny smile.
The tradition of each lord pledging fealty to the new king was as old as the kingdom itself, a remnant of Loog’s time.
Due to Fraldarius’s standing as a dukedom, Rodrigue was among the first to approach Lambert. The only person to precede him was Rufus, as archduke of Itha and Lambert’s brother.
The tiny smile vanished behind a solemn expression as Rufus took a knee before Lambert and recited the ancient oath. Then as custom dictated, Lambert held out his hand.
Rufus took it, bowing his head over it.
Lambert’s gaze followed Rufus as he rose and moved aside to make way for Rodrigue.
Rodrigue stepped forward and Lambert’s eyes locked on his as Rodrigue sank to one knee before him.
Smiling softly, Rodrigue said, “By the Goddess before whom this sanctuary is holy, I will to Lambert Egitte Blaiddyd be true and faithful.” A lump rose in his throat. “And to love all which he loves and shun all which he shuns, according to the laws of the Goddess and the order of the world. Nor will I ever with will or action, through word or deed, do anything which is unpleasing to him, on condition that he will hold to me as I shall deserve it, and that he will perform everything as it was in our agreement when I submitted myself to him and chose his will.”
Lambert’s small smile was back, his gaze soft and tender. He held out his hand. “So you keep faith with me, shall I keep faith with you.”
Rodrigue took his hand, the weight, the texture of Lambert’s callouses as familiar to him as his own. He bent his head and pressed a kiss to Lambert’s knuckles.
Lambert’s fingers closed minutely around his.
It went beyond the demands of custom, but Rodrigue didn’t care. They were custodians of the future now, but Lambert would always have his heart. That would never change. Rodrigue's oath of fealty was lifted from here.

So it’s Rodrigue week and since I don’t have the time and energy to write the prompts I want to write so I’m going to do a master post of head canons and stuff I have for Rodrigue and for these said prompts. So prepare for a very long post. The prompts I am going to combine are Mrs. Fraldarius, Felix and Glenn, Felix’s Uncle, Faerghus 4: The Old Generation, and the Blue Lions. This is also going to have a shameless plug of my ships. laskfjf this is a warning I guess.
To start off, Mrs. Fraldarius:
Rodrigue’s wife name is Amelia von Atalanta and she is from a Barony in the Alliance territory and her village is small.
They never met until they went the Officers Academy when they were 20 years old.
There first meeting was a little messy and very awkward. Erwin purposely made her mad and she chased after him to beat him up. When they met, she had Erwin’s face in the dirt. Godfrey had to diffuse the situation and apologized to Rodrigue and Lambert who also witnessed the situation.
She later apologized to him about.
The beginnings of their relationship was rocky.
At first, Amelia didn’t like Rodrigue because his uptightness about knighthood and his retainership. But when they started to put effort into their relationship, they did fall in love with each other.
For Rodrigue, he fell in love with her after one sparring session they had, he fell head-over-heels for her. He beat his ass, it confused her.
He truly fell in love her when he was passing by the infirmary. She was there cleaning and he watched her and heard her sing. This was a couple months into the Officers Academy.
That being said, they were betrothed a couple of months into knowing each other.
As a way to court Amelia, Rodrigue would give her flowers, especially roses since she is known as the Winter Rose. But when he found out that she could cook and sew, he would buy her sewing supplies and hunt for animals for her to cook.
She loved these as a way of courtship.
Rodrigue used to have very long curly hair in his 20s. And as a way to bond, Amelia would braid it and put roses in his hair.
When Amelia found out that Rodrigue could dance, she asked him to teach her. She made him promise to dance everyday they spent together.
There is this tradition in Faerghus where you give the person you are marrying a betrothal gift. Rodrigue wanted to give her something he made, but three things, he didn’t know how to sew, he knew that Amelia didn’t like jewelry. But he really wanted to make her something he made.
So what he does, he knows how to make jewelry and makes her a rose shaped hair pin for her betrothal gift. She absolutely loves it and only takes it off if she is asleep or to clean it.
Even though Rodrigue said it she didn’t have to give him a betrothal gift, she still sewed him the cloak he wears (the one we see in 3 Hopes/Houses). He says it’s one of the best gifts he has ever received.
They have nicknames for each other. Amelia’s nickname is Winter Rose for her thorny words, her coldness, and her beauty. So Rodrigue will lovingly call her Winter Rose, Little Rose, or My Rose. Rodrigue’s nickname is Roddie but he hates. But he never hates it when Amelia says it.
While they were betrothed, Amelia wore the Fraldarius engagement ring. But when Rodrigue truly proposed to her, he handmade her a rose wedding ring.
Their first date was to the beach.
Amelia unknowingly will say something really romantic to Rodrigue and his heart will stop because she is being to cute.
He absolutely loves her smile.
She fell in love with him because he could sing, his kindness, and his willingness to put effort into her and their relationship.
For their wedding, they braided cords together as a symbol of their promises to each other. For one of their promises, they promised each other to embarrass their children and their grandchildren.
After getting very close to Rodrigue, Amelia would be able sleep easier at night. Him being near her and the scent of jasmine that he would put on, would help her sleep at night. When he was gone, he gave her this plushy and put the scent on it for her to sleep with.
Felix and Glenn:
Felix and Glenn are born ten years apart
Glenn was unexpected but they both were attached to him.
Glenn is closer to Amelia than he is Rodrigue but he still loves his father very much.
Glenn was born crestless, but was still heir to the Dukedom of Fraldarius
Because of this, Rodrigue’s mother attempted to have Glenn and Amelia killed, but always failed. His mother put Amelia’s and Glenn’s lives on the line and if he didn’t choose her, she would kill them. Rodrigue choose his beloved wife and son. In the end, she went after the two and because of it, and in the end, Rodrigue had to kill his own mother.
Glenn was named after a field that Rodrigue would take Amelia to when they were dating, but no longer can go to because they inherited Fraldarius.
Felix was name Felix because he was a giggly little baby.
When Gunnar came to Rodrigue about betrothing their children, Rodrigue said no.
Gunnar’s bargaining chip for getting what he wanted was to continue the Fraldarius family line/to have an heir with a crest. Rodrigue said no, that Glenn didn’t need to have a crest to be worth something or to be heir to house Fraldarius or to have an heir with a crest and such. And that Glenn would make house Fraldarius stronger the way he wanted to, whether he decided to get married to a man, a woman, someone who was trans or nonbinary. Whether or not he would get married and have children. Glenn would do it his way.
Then it was for what little resources Galatea had. For what food they could produce, what little money they had, or for Pegasus knights. Rodrigue still said no. Both of them were struggling for food and didn’t want to make it worse, Fraldarius had enough money since he is the second highest ranking/second richest noble in Faerghus so they didn’t need money, and he didn’t need any Pegasus knights because they had plenty.
Then it was black mail. Gunnar used Rodrigue killing his own mother as leverage as a way to get Ingrid and Glenn to be betrothed. Rodrigue didn’t want to lose his family he had and not see them for what could be years because he killed his mother, so he agreed. This put a small rift between Glenn and Rodrigue. But they do still love each other.
Rodrigue taught Glenn how to hand-make jewelry and he taught Felix to sing.
Felix and Glenn know how to dance because they watched Rodrigue and Amelia dance every night.
Glenn does not look his father, but looks like his mother.
Rodrigue was going to give Glenn his cloak that Amelia made while Amelia was going to give Felix her hair pin to Felix. Amelia and Rodrigue were going to give their wedding rings to Felix because they both kind of figured Glenn was going to make his own.
Glenn decided to call off his betrothal to Ingrid after he traveled to Duscur, but was never able to.
Rodrigue never betrothed Felix off because he wanted his son to make his way through life on his own. Plus he knew the betrothal for Glenn put a rift between the two.
Rodrigue always writes to his sons when he is away.
Rodrigue and Felix do talk out their problems in a healthy way and repair their relationship.
In Verdant Wind, when Felix becomes a teacher, they have a mission going through Gronder field. Felix’s daughter finds Rodrigue’s dead body and Felix is heartbroken. Something more heartbreaking, he isn’t exactly on common grounds with his own son.
Rodrigue taught both Glenn and Felix what is to be a Duke.
Rodrigue taught Glenn how to use a lance. He taught Felix how to use a sword. Amelia taught Glenn and Felix how to use magic and Glenn how to use a sword.
At first, Rodrigue was really concerned that Glenn wouldn’t get along with his little brother. Glenn wasn’t too thrilled to have a younger sibling. But as soon as Felix was born, Glenn became protective of him and the two were very close. It made both Rodrigue and Amelia very happy that they were very close.
To this day, Rodrigue will say that Glenn and Felix were the best gifts Amelia has ever given, the best gifts anyone has given him. And he truly means it.
Rodrigue’s nickname for Glenn is GG and blue star (Glenn’s favorite flower)
Rodrigue’s nickname for Felix is Fe or little blue giggle. He laughed a lot when he was born.
Whenever Felix or Glenn would get sad, Rodrigue would wrap them up in his cloak. It would was big and the smell of their father would help calm them down.
Rodrigue would also sing to Glenn and Felix when they were young. It put them right to sleep.
Rodrigue would tell them stories to help them fall asleep, and when he was gone, or when Amelia was gone, Glenn would read bedtime stories to Felix.
Felix’s Uncle:
His name is Sidhbh Fiahd Fraldarius
The two were close, especially growing up with their abusive mother and when their father left when they were young.
Rodrigue would always take the abuse from her so Sidhbh would have to feel the hurt and pain she inflicted on him. He would especially take blame whenever his brother would do something bad by accident.
They are three years apart
While Rodrigue was betrothed to Amelia, and loves her dearly, Sidhbh accidentally fell in love with her. He never meant to and never said anything to his brother and his soon-to-be-wife.
Sidhbh is crestless, not that he cares.
While Sidhbh loves his brother, he was always jealous that he was always stronger and could never beat Rodrigue in a fight. He also keep this to himself.
Rodrigue trained to be a Holy Knight, while Sidhbh to become a Mortal Servant.
Rodrigue is more reserved and introverted while Sidhbh is more optimistic and outgoing. Rodrigue was always jealous that he was able to make more friends and keep them.
Rodrigue finds it very cute that Glenn and Felix calls his friends aunty and uncle. Like Uncle Lambert, Uncle Matthias, etc.
Faerghus Four: The Old Generation:
The previous Faerghus Four was Lambert, Saraphina (his betrothed/wife), Rodrigue, and Matthias.
Lambert, Saraphina, and Rodrigue cannot cook to save their lives. They have all burned stuff down and waste so much food by accident.
Matthias can sort of cook. Nothing fancy, but something to get by if they are in dire strains. Matthias was so happy when Amelia came into the picture.
Saraphina is the one saving all of their asses all the time. Lambert hates it because he doesn’t want his beloved angel to die. They fight about this from time to time.
While Lambert cares about Gustave, he constantly has to take breaks being around him.
Saraphina despises Gustave to the point where Lambert has to keep them away from each other.
Lambert is a Bow Knight
Saraphina is a Dark Flier
They each babysit each others children.
Matthias hates it the most. He only wants to take care of his own son.
Mattias’ first wife’s name is Raven von Vestra.
Rodrigue is the only one to not remarry.
Lambert and Saraphina were betrothed since Lambert’s birth. And they are helplessly in love.
Saraphina is a year older than him.
If Lambert had his way, he would never had remarried and he yearns to be with Saraphina again.
Lambert and Saraphina have matching wedding rings. Lambert’s wedding ring has moons all around it while Saraphina’s wedding ring rock is in the shape of the sun.
Saraphina and Lambert were going to pass down their wedding rings to their son Dimitri.
Saraphina is known as Faerghus’ sunshine and when she passed, everyone felt the gaping whole left when she died. But the person who hurt the most was Lambert.
Rodrigue is a little shit and would annoy the crap out of his friends from time to time.
Saraphina would pull harmless pranks on people. She would pull so many pranks.
Lambert, Rodrigue, and Matthias could never say no to Saraphina.
None of these four can sew.
Their is a scar on Rodrigue’s face that he got from when Saraphina tried to sew.
Lambert and Saraphina welcomed Raven and Amelia into their friend group with open arms.
Saraphina always had a hard time with noblewoman because they didn’t like her. She was an unconventional noblewoman herself always training and didn’t care for traditional feminine things. Though she does want to learn how to sew and cook.
Saraphina is the daughter of a Marquess, but her father’s whereabouts are unknown. And she doesn’t have a great relationship with her mother.
While they care for Gunnar, they aren’t too close to him.
The Blue Lions:
Rodrigue adopts all of them.
He is a big papa bear that is protective of all of them. These are my beloved little son’s friends, so now Felix’s friends are now Rodrigue’s children.
He is proud of all of them.
Rodrigue and Dedue’s relationship consist of them talking about cooking and food. Rodrigue constantly gives Dedue herbs and spices from him and his wife. They always talk about their knightly-hood and regales each other about stories of when their were young with their friends and family.
Rodrigue wishes he could be closer to Ashe. Them both being soft boys, they would talk to each other about stories they were told. Rodrigue would tell Sidhbh about different stories to help him sleep and forget their mother and their problems. Ashe would talk about the stories that his older brother would tell him and his siblings. They would have so much fun talking to each other about stories they had made up to get their families to sleep.
Sylvain is actually rather close to Rodrigue. Rodrigue just kind of adopted him into his family because of Matthias and Miklan being a dick. He often looks out for Sylvain and will scold Matthias to no end about how bad of a dad he is being. He is very annoying about it and he does not care. Rodrigue taught Sylvain how to use the lance. Unknown to Rodrigue, Sylvain has a huge crush on Amelia that fades away but never left. Sylvain gets his temper from Rodrigue, funnily enough.
Mercie! He adores Mercie. They talk about sewing and how bad he is about it and the multiple times his wife tried to teach him. He also thinks she would be a great queen for Faerghus. She is utterly surprised that he compares her to Dimitri’s mother and that they are similar in a lot of ways. She can only hope that she could live up to her and he reassures her that she doesn’t have and she will make her own way as the next queen.
Annie! He loves her as if she was his own daughter. He will show her off and boast about her anytime he can. He loves the fact that his own son is a little like him. He fell in love with a badass woman who can kick his ass. He thinks she would be a fine duchess and that Felix and Annette would make Fraldarius even better than what Rodrigue and Amelia have done.
While he does think of Ingrid of a daughter, and cares for her dearly, he doesn’t show off her skills or anything since there is a little bit of a strain with their relationship. With Glenn’s death, she never let him down on his failure and lashed out at constantly about his own son. She always acted like she was the only one that lost Glenn and no one else. He never did tell her about what happened between him and her father.
Rodrigue wish he could be closer to Byleth since she Felix’s professor and teacher and the fact that Sylvain is absolutely in love with her. Most of their conversations are of them training. Whatever is said, is between their weapons. But he does really care for her and does treat her like a daughter and that she understands Felix.

All my homies simp for Rodrigue, and I always stop and think: “WHY?! I COULD NEVER!” And then I realize “Oh yeah. It’s cause I’m a hopeless bastard of a Felix kinnie,” and I go back to saving my sexy little pictures of Dimitri while explaining to everyone that I believe his character arc was so poorly written that it might be the worst of the lords’ arcs in the game.

When Felix wakes up the next morning, he feels Dimitri's naked torso pressed against his back. He wants to smile – he wants to turn and reciprocate and maybe even kiss Dimitri awake. He even wants to maybe surprise him, tease him until he wakes up and realises what Felix is up to. Last night had been... well, Felix isn't so sure. He feels so many different things – secure, loved, cherished, protected. But he also feels regret.
Regret that Dimitri is putting aside everything for Felix's sake. Regret that any of this had happened to him in the first place.
Or maybe Felix is overthinking. Maybe Dimitri is still the same – he wants others to treat him as he were a normal student, attending the academy on the daily, interacting with not just nobles and commoners, but those with a lack of a crest, and even those with more than one crest.
Felix sighs quietly. Dimitri is so loving. Too loving – and who is Felix to deserve Dimitri's love? He runs a hand through his own long, white hair – the same hair that used to have such a pretty indigo colour, one that said Felix is of House Fraldarius, the son to Rodrigue Achille Fraldarius.
And yet, Dimitri still loves Felix. Felix belongs to Dimitri, no matter who he is, or where he has been, or any of that sort.
Dimitri finally wakes up, gazing lovingly into Felix's pretty amber eyes. "Good morning, beloved," he says softly.
"Hi," Felix answers – stupidly, at that. Dimitri leans in to place a chaste kiss on the side of Felix's face. He's almost humoured by how shy Felix is, but he knows it's a result of Felix's trauma – and Dimitri has been more than understanding. "You're staring," Felix says flatly, although his face is a cherry colour.
"I'm staring at someone I love," Dimitri answers sweetly. "Why wouldn't I stare at you, Fe?"
"It's annoying." Felix blushes even more.
"But you love it when it's me who does it," Dimitri says sweetly. "And you know that I sometimes cannot help it." Dimitri's gaze is so loving, gentle and Felix has to admit, he is kind of pretty when he's mesmerised. But he wouldn't say that out loud – he doesn't say his most outward feelings to begin with.
Ever since... that day, Felix has despised people staring at him with judging eyes. But Dimitri is different. Entirely different.
And if only the rest of the world would shut their eyes just so Felix can have Dimitri all to himself.

Rodrigue couldn’t remember the last time he had a vacation, let alone with his family. With all of them constantly working around the clock, none of them had the time to take a break. Thankfully he was able to find the time to schedule a couple of weeks off from work, but the weirdest was when Glenn’s and Felix’s schedules lined up with his. They hardly wanted to spend time with him now since they were older. He knew this was going to happen with children getting older, he knew this as a parent, but it still broke his heart.
Rodrigue was becoming more and more giddy as his vacation with his boys grew closer and closer. He even had it written on his calendar and circled with a red marker around the date. He couldn’t wait to go up to the cabin in the mountains that he inherited from his mother when she passed away. Rodrigue and his younger brother would go up there all the time when they were children, and he did it as much as he could with his own family.
The night before going up to the cabin, his son’s stayed the night at home since it would be easier for them to get up to the mountains. He was surprised that they both decided to stay the night at home, especially with Glenn. Over the years, after graduating college, Glenn kept his distance from Rodrigue and he never knew why. He could only imagine it was because he was this big name in Fodlan and Glenn wanted to make it out on his own. Glenn probably didn’t want to tack himself to his father, this was Rodrigue’s only guess. Felix on the other hand, they’ve been growing distant since he entered college. It still felt like he was in his rebellious phase and wanted nothing to do with his own father. It broke his heart that his children did not want to do much with him. He was expecting them to come back around again here soon.
Out of habit before going to bed, Rodrigue checked up on his sons to make sure they were asleep. He smiled as he covered them up with their blankets and gave them a kiss on their heads before going to his own room. He didn’t really care that they were adults now, he still loved doing his little habits with his children. He curled up into bed, cuddling with his wife. Rodrigue was sad she wasn’t coming, but she knew why. This whole thing was for him and his sons to connect with each other again, and she was the one to suggest it.
In the morning, it took him a little bit to get ready. Rodrigue made sure that they had everything. When he got into the living room, he saw that both of his sons were ready and messing with their sons.
“Took you long enough,” Glenn said sarcastically, looking up from his phone.
“Sorry,” Rodrigue rolled his eyes. “I just want to make sure we have everything.”
“Oh please,” Felix scoffed. “You know we do.”
“Felix,” Rodrigue sighed. “I don’t want you to break down crying again when you forgot a toy of yours.”
“That was a nightmare,” Glenn egged his younger brother.
“Hey! That happened one time and I was eight!” Felix reminded them both.
“So, I double check to make sure we have everything,” Rodrigue said, walking towards the door with his suitcase. “Let’s get going. The sooner we get there, the better.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Felix sighed, putting his headphones in.
It was a quiet ride to their cabin. Rodrigue was driving with Glenn in the passenger seat, sleeping to make up for the lost sleep from working too much, and Felix in the back listening to his own music and messing with his phone. He missed the times when they were younger, before Felix entered highschool. Glenn and Felix would always sit in the back of the car to talk about how they would stay up all night to make a fort and play around. They would sit and talk about how they were going to sneak out at night to explore the woods and catch the woodland creatures.
Their plans always failed, Rodrigue was always able to catch them. He would take their hands, walking back to the cabin. On the way back, his two sons would talk endlessly about how the forest looked at night. How the moon glistened on the mountains and lake in the midnight dark, and it was only accented by the shining stars. But they were both sad when they weren’t able to go up the mountain to see the beautiful view of the woods and their cabin.
Remembering holding little Felix’s hand as he watched Glenn walk ahead of them, it brought tears to his eyes.
“Mmph,” Glenn muttered out, opening his eyes to look over to his dad. “Why are you crying old man?”
“Oh, nothing,” Rodrigue said, using his free hand to wipe the tears strolling down his eyes. “It’s probably nothing,” Felix groaned out. “He’s just a weepy man.”
“Felix,” Glenn said, reaching over to slap his brother’s leg.
“Hey!” Felix shouted. “What was that for?”
“Be nice to dad,” Glenn scoffed.
“You just called him old man!” Felix slapped him back.
“So? This is our relationship,” Glenn catching Felix’s hand.
“Enough, the both of you,” Rodrigue intervened. “What’s with you two lately? You guys have been fighting a lot more recently.”
Both of them just growled at Rodrigue.
“Whatever,” Rodrigue sighed, rolling his eyes, and pulling into the driveway of the cabin. “We’re here.”
Rodrigue sniffed as they all walked into the cabin, not realizing how unused it had been in the past few years. He missed the times when Glenn and Felix ran into the cabin, yelling and grabbing everything in sight to make a fort. It always brought a smile to his face when they were rough housing, it always reminded when he and his brother were young. Now, they weren’t talking to each other and shoving each other in their rooms. Rodrigue could feel his heart break when they went their separate ways.
With his broken heart, he walked into his room, and laid his suitcase on his big bed. He traced his hand over the thick cotton blanket, he faintly smiled as he remembered the good times on the bed. After coming back to the cabin after his son’s failed night exploration, they would get onto the bed and start jumping on it to get out to let out late night jitters. Then they would crawl under the covers, hugging him tight as they all slept. Oh, how nice those memories were. He could only wish he could go back to those times.
Rodrigue laid out all of his stuff, placing his clothes in the plain wooden dresser that was close to his bedroom door. He really needed to dust it, he needed to dust everything. Before he did that, he sat on the windowsill on the other side of his dresser and looked out the window. It was still a very beautiful view, you could see the tall trees towering over everything, but they still let the sun shine through. Being able to see the dirt, flowers, and wildlife was rather calming. Rodrigue smiled, he knew what he could do with the boys.
As he got out of his seat, he excitedly scurried out of his room to go to Glenn’s and Felix. He felt his heart fall to his stomach when he went to check up on his sons. Glenn was dead asleep, curled under his blankets and Felix ignored his knocks and ignored him when tried to get his attention. Rodrigue sighed and decided to go with his other plan, clean up. This vacation wasn’t really feeling like a vacation.
He quietly worked around the cabin, dusting, cleaning clothes, rewashing dishes, and other domestic activities. By the time Rodrigue got done, it was starting to get late. This was the part of the vacation he dreaded, cooking. He had never been a good cook. The last time he had cooked something was in his early twenties and trying to impress his wife. He ultimately burned down his apartment kitchen and she took over the cooking for the past thirty years of their marriage.
Rodrigue knew that his sons weren’t going to help. Glenn was probably still asleep and Felix couldn’t deal with his father being near him when he cooked. His hands began to shake as he opened the cabinets to grab a dutch oven. He clunkily put it on the stove, turning on the highest heat. From there, it was a bit of a disaster. Rodrigue accidentally burned the oil, filling the air with a pungent burnt smell and smoke.
“What the hell?” Glenn said confused as he groggily walked into the kitchen. “Why are you cooking again?”
“We need to eat,” Rodrigue coughed, trying to clear the air of smoke.
Glenn sighed as he helped his father clean up his mess. He turned down the heat and moved the dutch oven into the sink.
“Thank you, Glenn,” Rodrigue said, taking out a fan out of the pantry and turning it on.
“What were you trying to make?” Glenn groaned.
“I was trying to make a beef and sweet potato stew,” Rodrigue replied, letting out the last of his boisterous dad cough.
Glenn rolled his eyes as he looked at what they had. “You were never going to be able to make that.”
“Why’s that?” Rodrigue asked, walking over to his son.
“Because we don’t have any beef, you fool,” Glenn teased.
“Heh, well what do we have?” Rodrigue laughed.
“We have food for a garlic soba noodle bowl,” Glenn smiled, pushing his father out of the kitchen.
“Will you stop pushing me, please?” Rodrigue said, his smile turning into a frown.
“No, because I know you will want to help and you’ll burn down the kitchen,” Glenn insisted, feeling his father use his body weight to stop the pushing. “I will pick you up and carry you to the couch.”
Rodrigue began to laugh again, using his weight to let them both fall to the floor, making a loud thud that Felix could hear.
“What is going on?” Felix groaned, scowling when he saw his father laying on top of his brother.
“Get off of me!” Glenn yelled, pushing Rodrigue off of him.
Rodrigue’s laugh was just as boisterous as his cough when Glenn pushed him onto the wood kitchen floor. He grabbed Glenn’s hand when he offered to help him up, fixing his clothes when he stood.
“What’s that look for, Fe,” Glenn asked, scuffling Felix’s hair.
“Because you guys were making too much noise and annoying me,” Felix lied.
“Awe, c’mon Felix,” Glenn said, moving his arm over his younger brother’s shoulder. “You are more than welcome to join the fun.”
“Hmph, fine. I don’t need this old fool messing it up again,” Felix groaned, walking over to the kitchen counter.
Rodrigue smiled as walked over to the other side of the kitchen counter, sitting on a seat to watch his children cook. It felt relieving to Rodrigue being able to see his sons work together and make dinner together. Watching them chat, catch up, and laugh was bringing a warmth to Rodrigue’s heart.
All three of them were able to talk over dinner, talking about work, what Felix was doing in college, and how Rodrigue and their mother were doing. This is where Rodrigue learned that Glenn was dating someone and Felix was learning the intricacies of the music world. This is where they found out that Rodrigue was planning on retiring. He may be a little young for it, but he was able to save enough money for it and was excited to be able to spend some more time with his family.
“What?” Felix said, shocked. “How does mom feel about this?”
“Ha! Like you can sit down and do nothing,” Glenn said bluntly, drinking the broth of his dinner.
“I haven’t told her yet,” Rodrigue answered Felix, eating the last bit of his food. “And that’s not true.”
“Oh please,” Glenn snarked, placing down his bowl. “Why do you think we are up here? You are going to drag us around town to find something to do.”
“That is not true,” Rodrigue sarcastically gasped.
Felix just rolled his eyes as he finished up his dinner.
Rodrigue laughed as he took all of their dishes to clean. He glanced up from the sink, surprised that his children were still at the table. He would have thought they would have gone back to their room and screw up their sleeping schedule. He felt elated that they were still around.
“Where do you think you’re going, old man?” Felix asked, watching his father walk over to the front door.
“I’m going out into the woods,” Rodrigue replied, putting on his jacket. To his surprise, he saw Glenn and Felix walk over and put on their coats. “What are you two doing?”
“Coming with you,” Felix said, zipping up his jacket.
“You’re an old man,” Glenn said, sarcastically.
Rodrigue choked up as he clinged to his sons. “I knew you boys cared about me!”
“Don’t get the wrong idea, you fool,” Felix harped, pushing Rodrigue off of him.
“Old man,” Glenn huffed, following Felix’s lead. “Let’s just go.”
Rodrigue laughed and opened the door, allowing his children to walk out first. He walked slowly behind his sons, watching them walk side-by-side, and pointing out the different things that they see on the trail. It was a nice change of pace walking with them in the woods instead of chasing them down and bringing them home. It got him thinking that his sons were probably happy they were able to be in the woods at night.
“Where are you going?” Glenn asked, glancing over to his father.
“To the base of the mountain,” Rodrigue replied, catching up with the two.
“Can you even climb the mountain with your old man bones?” Felix asked, sarcastically.
“Felix,” Rodrigue sighed, messing with his hair.
“Hey, now!” Felix yelled, fending off his father’s hand.
“I’m not that old,” Rodrigue said, walking in front of them.
“Why are we going that way?” Glenn asked, trying to catch up with his father.
“Because there is something I wanted to show you guys,” Rodrigue smiled.
“Oh?” Glenn said, his voice perking up. “What is it?”
“It’s a surprise,” Rodrigue said as he kept walking.
Glenn and Felix rolled their eyes as they trailed behind him.
Their walk turned out to be the same as their car ride here, quite. There was much to be said, only seeing the forest for what it was. The nice moonlit walk showing them the way, hearing the rustling bushes, the little sounds from the animals around them, being able to see their heavy breaths in the increasingly cold climate. Their walk became slightly harder as they began walking up the base of the mountain, especially for Rodrigue. He was beginning to fall behind his children.
“Dad?” Glenn said, glancing behind him. “Are you okay?”
“Yes,” Rodrigue replied, feeling short of breath. “I’m fine.”
“You don’t look it,” Felix said, stopping. “You look like you’re getting worn out.”
“I assure you, I’m fine,” Rodrigue said, slowly moving his body up the hill, only to fall.
“Dad!” Glenn yelled, rushing over to him. “This wasn’t a good idea.”
“I’m alright, I’m alright,” Rodrigue reassured his son. He felt Glenn help him up and allow his son to put his arm around his shoulder. He smiled when Felix took his other arm and put it around his shoulder. “Thank you boys.”
Glenn smiled and rolled his eyes as they continued to walk.
“How much further do we have to walk?” Felix asked, walking slowly with his brother and father.
“Just upon that rock,” Rodrigue replied, pointing towards a rock ledge that was thirty feet in front of him.
Felix nodded and kept at the same pace as the other two.
After a long, slow walk, they eventually made it to the ledge of the woods from above the trees. Rodrigue let out a breath, being able to see it, as he smiled down on the cabin. It was nice to see the dark green trees being illuminated by the moon and the stars. With the dim light, they could see the sky being covered with snow flurries descend upon the earth.
“Wow,” Glenn said, amazed and with a big smile.
Felix didn’t say anything, he was just stunned at the beautiful scenery.
“All my life, I wanted to see this,” Glenn said, his eyes widening as he watched the snow fall.
“This is beautiful,” Felix finally muttered out.
Rodrigue smiled as his boys looked at the scenery, very pleased with himself. It had been so long since he saw their smiles, to see their eyes wide with joy. It brought him so much warmth and pride. He held his sons close, giving them a hug, being happy that they returned it.
“We better get home,” Felix said. “It’s getting past your bedtime, old man.”
Rodrigue chuckled, letting go of Felix.
“Yeah, plus this cold weather is good on your joints,” Glenn teased.
Rodrigue placed his hands on Glenn’s cheeks, pulling him closer to give him small kisses. He laughed more as Glenn fended him off.
“Stop that!” Glenn said, his face heating up as he heard his younger brother laugh loudly.
“Are you feeling left out, little Felix?” Rodrigue asked, doing the same to him.
“Hey now!” Felix yelled, pushing his father away.
“I love you boys,” Rodrigue said.
“We know,” they both said in unison. The both paused, taking a few seconds to try to muster up their words in response to his.
“I know, boys,” Rodrigue smiled, knowing exactly what they wanted to say. “We better get going.”
They both nodded their heads and walked next to their father on the way home. It was a long night that both Glenn and Felix went straight to bed. In his usual habits, Rodrigue went around and made sure that everything was clean. He also checked up on his son’s, retucking them in when they were asleep, and giving them a kiss on their forehead. He took one last long look out the window before curling up under the blankets. Little did Rodrigue know, while he was asleep, Glenn and Felix snuck under the covers and hugged him tightly as they slept. Rodrigue was truly happy to have the children that he had.

My Analysis of the Best Paired Endings in 3H (Part 18: AM Ingrid/Ashe)
Tumblr media
Ingrid: …My father, too, brought up marriage proposals to ensure the family's survival numerous times. I had a fiancé when I was a child… But he passed away at a young age… Mercedes: If that fiancé were still alive… Would you have married him? Ingrid: Well… who knows? I can't even imagine it myself. But I do know that I admired him. A proud way of life as a knight serving the king. Even now, I've always wanted to be a knight like him. I want to live as a knight, not as a tool for the family's survival. Regardless of what my father says.
Ingrid was also a victim of Faerghus's patriarchal culture. She was sold by her father and engaged to Glenn the same year she was born in order to pass on her Crest. There's no question that she loved her fiancé dearly, but I suspect that her love was more like that of a sister toward a brother rather than actual romantic love. She wasn't sure if she would have married him if he had survived.
The Crest of Daphnel is associated with The Chariot arcana. The message is one of maintaining focus and confidence in the pursuit of your goals. It suggests that your strength and commitment is being tested by the universe, so don't give up or look for shortcuts. It also signifies the need to take action and move forward. Finally, it can represent a need to control your own destiny.
Tumblr media
Dorothea: I could never hand over my lovely Ingrid to some jerk who only wants her for her Crest. Ingrid: Oh? Do I belong to you now, rather than to myself?
Ingrid's paralogue was about her and Dorothea's contrasting views of marriage. Ingrid was not looking for a provider. Even though she needed the funds, she wanted to belong to herself. Not her father, not her brothers, not a husband. She didn't want to marry a man she wasn't in love with for a dowry. Knighthood was the only way she could pledge her life to a man she chose for herself.
Ingrid: [W]e hardly ever played together. The age gap was just too great. My eldest brother in particular was incredibly strict with me. Whenever I would try to go horseback riding through the hills, he would say… "How dare you do something so dangerous! What if something happened to you?!" What's worse, my father agreed with him. It kept me from getting out on too many adventures as a child. Thinking back on it, I understand their concern. I was the only one in the family to bear a Crest, after all.
Ingrid was also not looking for a protector. She wanted to live an active adventurous lifestyle protecting those she cared for. Knighthood was also a way for her to hold onto her childhood happiness. A time where she was truly free.
Tumblr media
Felix: House Fraldarius has been the king's lance and shield for generations. Ever since the time of Kyphon, sworn friend of the great King Loog. At times we've been sent to defeat the crown's enemies. At others, we've held back to defend the throne. I admit the style has its uses, idiotic history of blind faith aside.
Ingrid dreamt of obtaining knighthood and defending the king ever since she was a little girl. Growing up, she was obsessed with the book Sword of Kyphon which was about Loog's "sworn friend". The Aegis Shield is based on Greek Mythology. Rodrigue's middle name is "Achille". The writers were probably inspired by Achilles from the Iliad.
Ingrid: [Kyphon] was the very picture of the perfect knight. In my opinion, the best chapter is right around the middle of the book… Ashe: Ah, the part about the War of the Eagle and Lion? That's my favorite part! "In a flash, Kyphon's sword flew from its scabbard. The knight parried the assassin's blade mere inches from the spine of his king."
If so, Kyphon probably had feelings for Loog beyond just friendship. That may be why Ingrid identified with him. And it's also why she and Rodrigue (though he is the topic for a different post) idealized a knight's death so much. Ingrid didn't just want to serve her country. She wanted to serve as the lance and shield to a man she was in love with. And she was willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for him.
Tumblr media
Ingrid: I want to serve as a knight and protect my homeland. I know this, through and through. It has been my truth for as long as I can remember. However, I feel that I should choose a path that would benefit my father. I was raised by him in a happy home, never wanting for anything, despite my family's meager finances. I owe it to him to choose a path he'd approve of.
AM!Ingrid was willing to completely give up on her dream and choose a path that would make her father happy. But she has an A+ Support conversation with Seteth that is exclusive to AM. He encourages her to talk with her father and he will respect her wishes.
Ingrid: But even if I do become a knight, I feel an unease deep within me. I fear I will never escape this guilt I carry. That I have shunned my duty as a noble. Byleth: Could you not find a way to do both? Ingrid: To follow both my dream and my duty? I…I had never considered that as an option. Perhaps there is a way.
The idea that she could be a wife and a knight never seemed to occur to her until Byleth suggested it. But that did seem to be the solution to her problems. She becomes a knight in every one of her AM endings, except when paired with Felix or Sylvain.
Tumblr media
Ingrid: Oh, you mean the makeup? That's exaggerated. I just learned a bit from Annette. It's still trial and error… Hey Sylvain, do you think I've changed somehow?
In Ingrid's A+ Support with Sylvain, she was wearing makeup before heading to the training grounds. She didn't necessarily dislike looking her best, but she resented the social pressure to pretty herself up for men to "pounce" on. So, the fact that she was dolled up was uncharacteristic for her.
Sylvain: No, I'm not really flustered… I just got a little curious about the reason, is all. Ingrid: …The reason for the makeup, huh. What do you think it is? Sylvain: Well… Is it because of a guy? If we're talking about someone you might like, going by your past tendencies… Felix… No, His Highness also has a chance.
Sylvain was very flustered, suspecting it must be for a guy. His first assumption is Felix, due to her past history with Glenn. But Dimitri was another possibility.
Sylvain: It might also be because of the knights… Oh, wait, me!? Ingrid: I'll hit you. Sylvain: W-wait, I was just kidding! I'm against violence! Being too rough ruins a beauty, you know! ………… Uh, well. I-I mean, when I say "beauty," I'm not talking about flirting or anything, yeah! Ingrid: …Beauty, huh. Hehe.
He also suspected it might be for him, but Ingrid shut that down pretty fast. She was flattered by his compliment, but it was left very ambiguous whether she was wearing the makeup for him or not.
Tumblr media
Ingrid: Usually, I wore men's clothing, ran around in the mountains with male friends, and played around. And then… After my fiancé's death, I definitely wanted to avoid anything feminine. Thinking, "There's no need to show it to him," and… I've been bound by something like guilt for a long time.
In the Japanese version of the Ingrid/Sylvain A+ Support, Ingrid mentioned that Annette had been helping her practice her makeup. Her Support with Annette was about how she felt guilty for looking feminine. The fact that she had finally changed her appearance implied that she was ready to move on from Glenn. So, I do believe that Sylvain was right, and she was wearing the makeup for a guy.
Dimitri: You displayed unwavering, excellent spear skills. Was there indeed some change in your state of mind? Ingrid: ...As I mentioned before, thanks to Your Highness, I can move forward.
In her A-Support with Dimitri, she said that she could finally move on from Glenn's death because of him. It even took place at the training grounds, the place she was headed to in her A+ Support with Sylvain.
Dimitri: Ah, yes, that's right. …What did that mean exactly? Ingrid: …I finally managed to accept the truth I've been avoiding for so long. Glenn must have felt deep regret. Yet, I myself didn't want to acknowledge it. I've been twisting his true nature, imposing my ideals, and averting my gaze… Dimitri: …I see.
The tagline for the game was, "Sweet memories twisted by time's cruel hand". Ingrid coped with grief by romanticizing the truth. She had to believe that Glenn died a picture-perfect death like the ones in her childhood storybooks, because the truth was just too horrible. Her Support chain with Dimitri was about realizing that she was projecting her own feelings onto Glenn.
Tumblr media
Ingrid: …Your Highness. I won't sacrifice my life for anyone else. But, would you allow me to live for someone else, Your Highness? Not in the sense of throwing away my life—I want to dedicate my life to you. Dimitri: ...Hold on. How should I interpret that? Ingrid: …? However you please, Your Highness. Dimitri: Haha… "However I please," huh. …You win. Ingrid. Once this battle is over, I want you to… As a knight, I want you to support me. …I've been meaning to say that for a while now. We seem to get along well. Ingrid: …As a knight? Uh, um, no! It's nothing! Of course, even without being told, I was planning to fight for you… and, um, for my country.
Ingrid's offer to pledge her life to Dimitri as a knight was essentially a marriage proposal as well. She won't even make a wish with Byleth at the Goddess Tower. And this is actually the ONLY A-Support where her feelings are unambiguously romantic. She dreamt of being a knight to be close to him. If she married Dimitri, she knew she could fulfill both her dream and her duty to her father. Therefore, if you're playing AM, I believe that Ingrid was wearing the makeup for Dimitri.
While Ingrid's feelings were very clear, Dimitri's response to her "proposal" is a lot more ambiguous. He did not ask her to be his wife like she was hoping, only to become his knight. It could be interpreted as him just being shy. Or it could be interpreted as an awkward rejection. Based on Ingrid's sad expression, it did seem like she interpreted his response as him letting her down gently.
Felix: So… He's finally shown his true face. The same Dimitri I've seen once before—a beast who loves spilling blood. Ingrid: You're wrong! I'm sure of it. There has to be an explanation…
Ingrid probably did the same to Dimitri as she did to Glenn. She was holding onto an idealistic childhood fantasy and could only see him as he was when they were kids, even though he had changed. She was in complete denial of his boar side. Dimitri was willing to throw away his childhood friends' lives at Gronder Field, including hers. He did turn his life around thanks to Byleth, but it wasn't surprising to me that he didn't feel comfortable accepting her marriage proposal.
Tumblr media
Dimitri: If you're willing, would you like to go together? Of course, if you still feel hesitant, I won't force you… Ingrid: …No! Please, let me accompany you. It's embarrassing, but I probably would have hesitated to go alone. But with you… I feel like I can take a step forward without fear. Dimitri: I see. Alright, let's not waste any time. Allow me to treat you today, Ingrid.
In Hopes, Dimitri was able to help Ingrid face the reality of Glenn's death sooner and move forward. We even learn that she wanted to go to the castle to support him after the Tragedy of Duscur, but her father wouldn't let her. Dimitri always did want a girlfriend and he actually seemed very interested in Ingrid in Hopes. She gladly accepted when he offered to treat her to a meal.
Sylvain: Alright, then. Let me help you out… let's have a meal. My treat, miss. Ingrid: Wait a minute. Are you trying to flirt with me? I thought you'd matured. Sylvain: Oh, come on… I'm just trying to be thoughtful. Don't turn down a kind gesture, or you'll regret it. Ingrid: …I suppose you're right. Thank you for your consideration, Sylvain.
It's worth noting that in their Hopes A-Support, Sylvain also offered to treat her to a meal. She was more than happy to eat on his coin, but only if it's not a date. While Sylvain is often viewed as the "canon" love interest for Ingrid, I didn't really see any evidence that her love for him was anything other than sisterly. She was so fed up with his sexism that she took her annoyance with him out on Claude.
They made the Ingrid/Sylvain A+ ambiguous enough for you to view Sylvain as her love interest if you want. But they also left it open for Dimitri and there's more evidence that he was the one Ingrid had romantic feelings for, even if she never thought marrying the king was possible. I think that in the Hopes timeline, they probably would have ended up together. But in Houses, Dimitri was just too different.
Tumblr media
Ingrid: As you said, situations change whether we like it or not… Nobody can stay the same. Of course, neither you nor I are exceptions… It's just that, I feel a little lonely because of it.
In VW, Dimitri is assumed to be dead. However, a recruited Ingrid still runs away from home in order to become a knight. So, her childhood dream was not solely related to her feelings for Dimitri. She wanted to go back to the past.
Ingrid: My friends and I used to explore the countryside together when we were young. I dearly miss those days.
Ingrid was a tomboy who loved playing outside, getting dirty, and going on adventures. In Hopes, her central conflict was not just about marriage but also about the fact that she was inevitably going to lead House Galatea. She hated desk work and was dreading the changes that would inevitably come along with adulthood and becoming a count, doing mountains of paperwork.
Tumblr media
Ingrid: Knights, I suppose. I do what I can to live like one. And I hope to die like one too…when the time comes.
If Shez takes Ingrid out on an expedition and asks her what she likes, her response is quite disturbing. Even though she had given up on her dream, she said that she was still planning to die like a knight, implying that she was hoping to die during the war. And in SB, she dies like a true knight, just as she hoped.
Dimitri: At the Tragedy of Duscur, I saw countless corpses. Of course, I saw his too…Glenn's. Ingrid, I doubt you would have been able to see him. They were unable to bring his body back, after all. He must have died an agonizing death, full of pain and regret. That is what I saw in his face. Ingrid: … Dimitri: In that wasteland, there were no beautiful, proud deaths that could have been written about in heroic tales. Not one. I do not want you to die a death like that. Not even for the sake of loyalty or duty.
Glenn was Dimitri's best friend and even he died with a heavy heart. But Ingrid actually was content to die protecting Dimitri. And I'm sure her romantic feelings for her king played a role. Symbolically, she dies at the Silver Maiden (named after a pure maiden that is hard to penetrate). But I cannot help but suspect that her romanticization of a knight's death was also influenced by the fact that she was not looking forward to her future as a tradwife and Count Galatea.
Tumblr media
Gilbert: Once you don the armor, raise your shield, and level your lance… Why? What is it you wish to protect? Ashe: Protect? I, um… Well, whatever needs protecting, right? Gilbert: You must know exactly what you protect before you become a knight.
Like Ingrid, it was Ashe's dream to become a knight. He wanted to be like his adoptive father Lonato, who he thought was the very model of chivalry. And his character arc was about how to come to terms with Lonato's death.
Tumblr media
Ashe: I don't think that friend who protected you threw his life away because he was a knight. He just wanted to save his best friend. Dimitri: Even if it meant destroying futures that might have come to pass had he but lived? Ashe: Look, I don't know if what he did was right. So if you're asking me not to throw my life away, I promise that I won't. But I don't think it's wrong to fight to the end for someone that you love.
Ashe gets some pretty interesting development in Hopes. He becomes a knight to House Blaiddyd, just like in his AM paired ending with Ingrid (it's actually the only ending where he becomes a royal knight). He has a rather naive and rosy view of chivalry, while Dimitri has a more cynical view. Ashe agrees with him, but he does respect the idea of fighting to the end for someone he loves.
Ashe: I'm glad Lonato made it out safely, but… But we killed Ingrid. I can't ever go back, can I? There's no place left for me in Faerghus. Whatever part of me that was a knight is dead.
And he clearly needs that kind of personal motivation. Outside of AG, Ashe is one of the only Lions who has the option to defect from Faerghus. In SB, he wanted to protect Lonato. But his primary motivation in GW was to save his own life. Becoming a knight was one thing, but it turns out living up the ideal was a lot harder. Ingrid is the one who takes his betrayal the most personally. And when she is killed, the part of Ashe that was a knight dies along with her.
Tumblr media
Gilbert: Lord Lonato took up his sword for his son. Even if that meant turning his back on the goddess… As a father, I cannot condemn Lord Lonato for raising an army. Yet, perhaps he too lost sight of what should be protected. Just as I did. Ashe: I don't understand what you mean. What should Lonato have protected? Gilbert: You, Ashe. Because you are also his son. Ashe: You're right… I think I know what I need to protect now.
Ingrid didn't just want to follow orders. She wanted to protect those she loved. And Gilbert told Ashe that to he needed to know exactly what he was protecting when he became a knight. He needed something personal; the way Gilbert had his family. Ashe wanted Lonato to live on through him.
Tumblr media
Ashe: Um, anyway, I just… wanted you to smile. Ingrid: …Thank you, Ashe. You're encouraging me. Certainly, living as a knight may not be an easy path. .…We may be forced to live while bearing great pain and regret. But… I want to continue pursuing that dream. Talking with you makes me feel that way. Besides, giving up easily isn't like me at all.
And that's what A-Support with Ingrid was about. Lonato changed Ashe's life with a book. And Ingrid was encouraged to carry on her dream and Glenn's legacy thanks to the book Ashe gifted her. I also think he'd be able to help her move on from Dimitri, too. That's why I think these two characters complement each other's character arcs the best and are indispensable to each other as knights.
Tumblr media
Ingrid & Ashe After the war, with a new king ascending the throne of Faerghus, Ingrid left House Galatea and joined the royal capital, Fhirdiad, to serve the royal family as a knight. Likewise, Ashe departed from his homeland of Gaspard and chose the path to become a knight of the royal family. Devoted to the future of the Kingdom, they took on any duty to protect the king. Eventually, they were praised as the "Twin Pillars of Knights" and left their mark in many tales of chivalry. In some stories, they are depicted as a loving couple. While the truth remains unknown, it is certain that they fought together until the end of their lives and were each other's inseparable companions.
In Ingrid's ending with Ashe, she lives out her childhood dream. She and Ashe even get a cool nickname similar to the Ferdibert ending. Ashe is known for his boundless courage and devotion. He is the picture-perfect knight from the story books, completely different from the cowardice he displayed in Hopes.
While the Japanese version does not mention marriage, it is implied that Ingrid and Ashe spent their loves together as lovers. Still, it is left up to interpretation. Outside AM, they explicitly fall in love and get married, so I have no reason to believe they weren't lovers in AM as well. But the point is that Ingrid went down in history for her own accomplishments, not just as someone's wife.

@butchcraftmacncheese said "You know of all the characters in 3H, [Rodrigue] would have totally been the Ultimate Lesbian Ally."
so i spun that idea around for a full 8hrs and then wrote this:

!! (for the ask game thing)
I know you only sent one set of double-exclamations but I'm going to drop a whole family in here. dfghdfg
Rodrigue Achille Fraldarius in fe3h is described as having a younger brother. My OC for him is Armand Cormac Fraldarius.
Tumblr media
Picrew.
Born 1142, he's five years younger than Rodrigue. He doubts more often than he believes in the deities (Fodlan's Goddess and Faerghus' older pantheon(s)), but he believes in the faith and the ritual of the Church of Seiros, and would have joined the Church in another life.
Rodrigue's marriage to my OC Eugénie is terse after Glenn's death. Eugénie moves out afterwards, and doesn't return to the Fraldarius estate permanently until sometime post-canon, though she acts as Duchess while Rodrigue is away. This to share that:
Armand checks in on Eugénie during White Clouds, especially as Rodrigue travels south for the Miklan situation. Armand would still think of her as family, and would extend to her his friendship even if she and Rodrigue ultimately divorced / separated.
Armand's offer of continued family would surprise Eugénie. To him, she has been like an elder sister, around as much Rodrigue has been since the onset of their relationship. But to her Armand seemed an occasional, amicable acquaintance; Rodrigue's brother and not someone she associated directly through herself. Not someone she would have confided in.
His offer would change this for them, and further endear him to her, as well as help her feel less isolated, and relieve her of some of the guilt of leaving the Fraldarius estate.
In their youth, Armand was fascinated with Glenn (he was 16 when Glenn was born). He loved him, dearly, and grew a new kind of respect for Rodrigue as Glenn learned to speak (far quicker than Armand would have expected), and walk, and carry himself. Armand encouraged Glenn's humor and bravado, and enjoyed training / instructing him when the time came, when time allowed.
Glenn cemented for Armand that he wanted children.
.
In few3h AG you briefly meet Viscount Yvette Belinus who is answering Baron Dominic's summons to defend Brennius territory against the Empire (and she is quickly slain in this timeline).
Yvette is the elder sister to Armand's wife, Violaine. Born 1138, married to Armand 1163. She is indifferent to the belief of deities, but does believe in the institution of the Church of Seiros.
Tumblr media
Picrew.
She's trans, and so she and Armand arrange surrogates in order to pursue the family they desire.
Jocelyn and Fabrice are born in 1164 and 1167 respectively.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Picrew.
As a reminder, Felix is born 1162, and in my headcanons Glenn is born 1158.
Jocelyn is a nonbeliever who has a positive impression of the Church of Seiros. Fabrice is a believer with a positive impression of the Church of Seiros.
Jocelyn and Fabrice, at 15 and 13 respectively, worrying about their Auntie 'Vette (pronounced the same as Aunt Yvette) at the outset of Adrestian troops in 1180. Armand is busy preparing for war, and Violaine is left having to impress upon them that the best thing they can do at their age is pray and help the church package supplies / rations / care packages. "And yes, we all know how old Felix was during the western uprising." -- Reminder that Felix was around 14 when he went to these battles (in the role of a squire, iirc).
I think that's all I've got for them really. Thank you if you read all this!
OH! I have some ffxiv screenshots of Armand!

In this house we stan Rodrigue Achille Fraldarius 😤 Honestly though the way the discourse gets about Rodrigue gets into the concept of first impressions and how hard they stick in fandom. It doesn't matter that the truth of the situation isn't cut and dry, Rodrigue was doomed to suffer the bullshit the instant it was revealed Felix had his dad listed as one of his dislikes. And it sucks because it is soooo much more interesting that Rodrigue ISN'T some big bad boogeyman in Felix's life. (1/2)
Rodrigue and Felix are two flawed but good people whose lives were irreversibly altered after a horrible event, one that struck WAY too close to home for the both of them in several ways. And the way they grieved over the situation was different because not everyone grieves the same way. But that truth ended up creating a rift between them. And it's even sadder when you see them in the present and realize that rift isn't that big after all but Felix is stubborn and Rodrigue won't push him. (2/2)
YES! All of this. Especially the bit about Rodrigue not being what the fandom seems determined to make him into. Isn't just a flawed human who is trying but failing more interesting than someone evil? Same with Felix. What's so wonderful about this conflict is that neither are bad people. Neither are really wrong.
I also love so, so much how it highlights how something like the Tragey of Duscur has an impact in so many different ways. It makes it feel more real.
I think with Hopes giving Rodrigue supports and making him playable will improve his standing in fandom. I haven't seen any yet, but overall people tend to like the supports, so I'm betting Rodrigue is allowed to finally share his thoughts and express himself.
Now . . . if only Rhea got supports :(

Fire Emblem Engage is coming
Here I sit, in my little corner with a party hat and noise maker. Yay! New Fire Emblem
The rest of the world: my favorite is missing, I hate their art, this is a remake of 4. Coke/Pepsi or Toothpaste? We don’t like it.
Me: I’m going to love it. I will play it. It is so cool.

I really liked your Seteth x Reader fic. Do you think Seteth considers his "true" name to be Cichol and that it would be more emotional for him to be called such, or do you think Seteth is his chosen name and that he prefers being addressed by this name at this stage in his life?
In my humble opinion, Seteth's given name being Cichol is certainly special to him. Throughout the many years, hundreds if not a few thousand, he recognizes that as his calling and only name. At that point in his life he considers Cichol to be his “true” name. The name given him when he was born. The name that he grew up with in his family, arguing with and being rowdy, rough housing with his brothers. The name his beautiful wife called him and filled him with joy whenever he heard her say it. It has so much emotion and feelings tied to its use.
Then, as sometimes it happens with beings that live extremely long lives, it behooves them to get lost within the rabble, take on a new name, a new location, and a new identity. The humans he lives among do not live for even a hundred years. Eventually they would discover a few of his secrets, notice that he is different. Humans do not understand that which is different. Different is wrong, misunderstood and feared. That which humans fear is hated and destroyed. Before things reach that point, he must disappear, and reappear in another place, reinvented.
This would be easy for a man on his own, however he has been blessed with a daughter. A daughter who fought alongside in a great war, suffered great injury and was in a restorative sleep for many, many years. He is her only protector. For her he will do anything that is necessary to guard her and her wellbeing. He would sequester himself away from all mankind, living on a distant seashore with only the birds and wild animals to keep him company to keep his only child safe in his care while she sleeps.
As we meet Seteth (as he calls himself currently) he poses as brother to his own daughter. It was his opinion that they would blend in more easily than if he were to say she is his daughter. For the security and safety of his daughter, he prefers the name Seteth. The location, at the church, surrounded by the history that shared of Saint Cichol, he knows how dangerous that could be. Kidnap Flayn, and the evildoers could possibly have a genuine bona fides Saint playing on their team.
As an act of great faith, trust and deep love with another person, it is possible that he would reveal his “true” name to another, to only be used in a manner of utmost confidentiality and only between the two of them. (plus Flayn/Cethleann).
I hope this answers your question. Thanks for asking! (off the record, I think it would be extremely romantic for him to tell his beloved that they may call him Cichol. The trust, the love, must surely be immense for him to agree to that!)

My #1 post of 2022
advice for teen authors?
First: do what you love, love what you do. Write for yourself first and foremost. If you write and do not like it or even hate it, how can you expect anyone else enjoy it?
Write. Write a lot, write all the time. Write good stuff. Write great stuff. Write things others won’t like. Write for yourself. Write in different styles. See what types of writing you feel most comfortable with.
Read. Learn from reading. Study other writers. Read books about your favorite subjects, remember those writers know how to get their work published. Reading gives insight as to how writers develop their characters, their plot. How to pace a story. How do they end a story? How do they begin it?
Develop your skills of observation. What happens when you eat a piece of toast? Sight, sound, smell, touch, feel, emotion, physical attributes, everything. Use all of your senses when writing, it brings your words to life. Keep notebooks and diaries about what interests you. What may have been a strange thought in your head before bed last week can suddenly be turned into a pivotal point in your next story.
Travel. See the world. Write it down as you go. Every single time I have traveled to someplace new, I buy a new notebook, filling it with the experiences. I write about things happening, people I have met, someone or something looking unusual. I make notes about something said that caught my attention, how someone saw a different side to things. While you are at it, take photos. Tons of photos. I take pictures of everything, a building, the sidewalk, marks on the walls, interesting carvings above a doorway.
There are a million resources available on the internet. Subscribe to some writing idea and writing improvement tumblrs, ones to help with writing better, follow blogs giving you ideas, look into those writing tips provided. I’ve reblogged quite a few different great blogs in the past. Don’t overwhelm yourself. Small steps forward lead to the greatest improvements.
Find friends, seek help from experts, take classes. Learn more about writing. Join a discord server where other people write stories like yours. Improve your vocabulary. Dictionaries & thesauruses are wonderful. Powerthesaurus.org is amazing. It can give definitions synonyms antonyms, thesaurus results then suggests words, phrases and idioms.
Talk to people. Maybe you are shy or introverted. Perhaps you can speak with someone in your own family? My grandmother shared so many stories of her youth, things were very very different at that time. I wish that I could have published her biography, she lived through so many different events. Some of her stories have become part of my stories. It makes me happy to the point of tears that I can include her stories as part of my own.
Being a teen is hard. Go easy on yourself. Write. Maybe you will keep writing. Maybe you will take a break for 10 years and come back to it. That's fine. There are a million other things I would love to tell you that I've learned or found interesting that perhaps may be useful to you as well.
