Late nights behind a desk were the worst. Y/N hated reading over case file, after case file, of horrific things as she tried to choose where they went next.

The only plus side was that she wasn’t alone, Spencer was at his desk just beside her. Like he always was. They had an interesting friendship, to say the least.

Ever since Y/N joined the BAU, Spencer and her were glued at the hip. They had all the same interests, liked the same music and movies, and they spat out information the same way, they were like each other’s dorky other half— but it was just a friendship.

They had a tradition to watch at least one movie together after a case, to just chill for a bit together. Always randomly picking one of their apartments to go to, spending the night together until one of them eventually wandered off to bed. Leaving the other on the couch.

They weren’t aware of their feelings for each other for a while. Both of them being so used to being alone, and never having anyone be interested in them before. It was hard to understand if the feelings they had were pure friendship, or if it could ever be more. If the sex would fuck everything up and take away that perfect happy place they found in each other, or would it make the bond stronger?

She noticed the crush before Spencer showed any signs of liking her back. She woke up every morning thinking of him, that's when she came to the conclusion that it was more than just a friendship. She wanted him in her life forever, she wanted to kiss his perfect lips and hug his soft body, wake up beside his messy hair and just love him for the rest of eternity.

She sighed as she picked up another file, not excited to learn about the horrible acts taking place in what people called, “the best country in the world.” She’d disagree any day of the week.

This one was a file about some missing kids apparently being spotted in a van altogether in Georgia, it looked interesting enough to be the next case. She hated reading all the info, seeing every kid's happy face in the file knowing that’s not how they looked now.

“Good god,” she groaned as she flipped through the case.

“What’s wrong?” Spencer asked over the divider.

“Nothing,” she shrugged, “just a bad case.”

She handed it to him over the desk, hearing him flip through all the sheets as he read a million words a minute. “We should show this to Emily first thing,” Spencer agreed, pushing himself over to her desk in his wheely chair.

“I will,” she smiled softly, taking the file back from him and placing it on her desk.

Spencer stood then, making his way into her space and rubbing his hand over her back slightly. “Are you okay?”

She sighed, “actually. no, I was telling Garcia I want to have a baby soon, and then I see things like this and I’m scared to do it alone but I don’t have any other option?” Ranting to him like he was her therapist.

“What do you mean?”

She turned in her chair to look up at him, his soft brown eyes really caring to hear the answer. “Sit,” she insisted.

He pulled the chair over more, sitting close enough that their knees touched. “I’m 36, I’m not having any luck finding a husband or a wife, I want a baby and if I have to do it myself I will, but what if I’m not enough? What if I have a boy and he grows up to be a killer cause he never had a dad?”

“Y/N,” Spencer’s voice was soft as he looked at her with a confused scrunch on his face. “That couldn’t happen, you’re a wonderful person, I love having you on the team and in my life, I know you’d raise good kids, you should do it.”

“Really?” She beamed at him, the words touching her heart and making her swoon a bit.

“I mean, it would be hard,” he added reason to the conversation. “You’d have to take time off, which would be good for bonding. My mother raised me alone and I turned out semi-fine, I don't hold any resentment for her not finding someone for me to call dad or even step-mom for that matter. I think if you give them all the love in the world like I know you’re capable of, your child will love you like you’re their whole world.”

She laughed as she noticed the tears welling in her eyes, waving her hand's in front of her face so she wouldn’t fully sob. “Do you want to be the donor?” She made a joke to change the topic.

Spencer laughed then too, “sure!”

Everything got serious again then, she looked at him a little differently. “Really? Cause honestly, you’re like a Grade A donor profile in the most expensive clinic!” She couldn’t help herself from laughing again at the absurdity.

“I’ve always wanted to be a dad, 40 isn’t too old to have a child, is it?” He seemed to have decided that rather fast.

“Okay,” she nodded with a smile, “okay. That’s cool, sick,” she felt the words get smaller as she thought it over.

“I get it if you were kidding,” Spencer spat out. “I realize now that you might have been making a joke, I hope it’s not weird that I agreed so fast, it’s just that I think you’re a very beautiful and smart woman and the idea of helping you make a child makes me really excited. I think it would be a very good idea if you were being serious, but I get it if you’re not.”

She let him get it all out, always loving when he got like this on a case or in person, nervous or just because he wanted to talk, she loved to listen. And no one ever let him finish his thoughts, always wanting to beat him to the punch.

“Spence, I think you’re really handsome and smart too,” she smiled. “If you’re also serious, I am too.”

“How would we?” He asked as he pulled at the top button of his dress shirt, swallowing like he couldn't breathe all of a sudden.

“If you’re not opposed, I’m sure the good old-fashioned way would work?” She laughed, laying her hand on his knee softly.

It was like sparks flew at that moment as if all the fluorescent lights in the bullpen could have exploded and she wouldn’t have even noticed. Captivated by Spencer's eyes as he gasped at her touch.

“Not opposed in the slightest,” he said softly as he held his own hand over hers.

She couldn’t help herself from smiling. “Well, I think I’m all done here if you want to come to my place for a movie?”

“Sure,” he replied, offering her a hand as they stood up together.

He returned his chair to his desk, both of them grabbing their coats and bags and rejoining at the door.

“I should go say goodnight to Penny,” Y/N said softly. “Wanna come?”

“Yeah,” he followed her through the door and down the hall to the tech room.

“Knock knock,” Y/N said as she walked through the open door. “Oh great and knowledgeable one, I’ve come with my nightly farewell.”

“Oh my knight, I shall miss you,” Penelope played along, sauntering over to her and wrapping her up in a hug. “I leave you with this until your return.”

“Through scorching deserts, and blistering winds, I will make it back to you, always,” she tried not to laugh as she hugged her back. “I also brought forth the jester.”

Spencer was laughing in the doorway as the two of them looked at him, “hi?”

“The pretty boy, to what do I owe the pleasure?”

“Um,” Y/N smiled, “Spencer and I are just going back for our nightly movie.”

Penelope looked at both of them, jaw slightly gaped, “nightly? I thought it was a case by case thing?”

“It’s a good excuse for us to talk,” Spencer smiled at her.

“Mhmm,” she smirked, “well have fun.”

She pulled Y/N back into another hug, hiding her face from Spencer, “I need all the dirty deets in the morning.”

Y/N smacked her arm softly as she pulled back, “goodnight pretty penny.”

“Farewell brave knight, handle with care, Jester,” Penelope pointed her finger at him, giving him a knowing glance.

“Yes, oh Knowledgeable one, always,” he blushed.

He reached out his hand for Y/N, interlocking their fingers as they left her office and headed towards the elevator. A rare moment of bravery on his part, holding hands like this didn’t spread a lot of germs.

“We’re going to have to discuss a lot of logistics like realistically this isn’t going to be just a fuck and oh look its a baby. This is a real live baby that we need to raise and care for,” she reminded him as the elevator doors shut.

“I’d like to be as involved as you’d let me be,” Spencer replied. “I don’t have to be 'dad' to them, I could be uncle Spence that’s fine too.”

“Oh no, you’d be Dad for sure,” she nudged him slightly. “I mean like, weekends and holidays and birthdays, your mom will want to see them surely, my parents will want to see them. Housing,” she looked at him horrified. “I have an apartment with 2 bedrooms, I don’t think I could let them sleep somewhere without me.”

“I have been looking at houses,” Spencer added before the doors opened to the garage, “you’re driving right?”

“Yeah, you were saying?” She replied, digging her keys out of her purse and leading him towards the car.

“Derek Morgan, I’m not sure if you’ve met him yet, he fixes up old homes in DC and Virginia now. He just finished one and I helped him with it. I think I’m going to buy it from him. It has 4 bedrooms, we could all live under the same roof? It would be easier to co-parent.”

She was amazed at how fast he adapted to this as if he’d been having the same thoughts she was having. At a certain point wanting kids becomes a pipe dream filled with desperation and emptiness, he looks like he’s experienced it too.

She opened her door and sat down before replying to him again. Thinking about how wonderful he was going to be during this process, “thank you, Spencer.”

“For what?” He asked as they both closed their doors.

She sighed, relaxing into her seat as she started the car. She turned to him softly, not wanting to cry as she spoke softly. “Being a mom is more of a dream to me than joining the BAU was, this is the best gift you could give me.”

He reached his hand out again, holding it softly. Running his thumb over her knuckles. “Can I tell you a secret?”

“Yeah,” she nodded softly.

He couldn’t make eye contact with her, staring at their hands as he rubbed her skin.

“Um, I’ve been pretty infatuated with you since you joined,” he let it out finally. Like a ton of bricks off his back he relaxed a bit, “after everything with Maeve, Cat and Max… oh god, and JJ... I was so worried that if I got too close to you I’d lose you. I tried to keep the feelings in, that's why I said what I did to Penelope. She knows how I feel about you.”

It was like fireworks were going off in her chest as the butterflies erupted inside of her. She sat up, turning to him more and ripping her hand from his grasp.

It startled him, he looked at her anxiously as if she was going to yell at him. But she placed both hands on his cheeks and pulled him into a kiss.

His arms snaked around her waist, wishing they could get closer if it wasn’t for the damn centre console of her car. Pressing their lips together, hard, as they breathed each other in. Desperation taking control, she wasn’t able to let go of him.

When she finally did pull away, however, the look on his face was priceless. Like expensive art, every line and freckle had a meaning. He was surprised, enamoured, grateful, desperate for more.

She smiled softly, rubbing her thumbs over his cheek. “Good, cause it would be awkward having your baby and not getting to love you every day too.”

I promised a Phantom review...

...and as promised my thoughts are here, I’ve tried to organise them into something cohesive but I’m not certain I have succeeded so my apologies for that.

Strap yourselves in, this is going to be a long post

So I went to see Phantom on Saturday. It was my second time seeing it (the first being in April with the same cast but Luke McCall as the phantom.) and...

...I FREAKING LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT!!!!

The cast I had this time were just as good as last, if not better, and I FINALLY saw Ben Lewis live!!!! AAAAAHHHHHH!!

Okay, screaming aside here are some of the bits of the performance I remembered and loved:

Overture

GOT ME HYPED AS ALWAYS!!

I could see into the orchestra pit and it was awesome seeing watching the music being played live.

Think of Me

Lara Martins was such a good Carlotta!! She had the right presence and her voice was so great, it’s a shame that she’s leaving!

Andre trying to stop raoul getting up and applauding half way through think of me was a nice touch

The red light at the back with Christine in think of me looked amazing

Angel of music /  Little Lotte

Mmmmmm I got chills from Ben’s “Brava, Brava, Bravisima”

Also the point at which it hit me that I was going to actually see Ben Lewis perform live

Raoul sounds so freaking happy once Christine recognises him

“INSOLENT BOY” made me shiver, Ben’s voice is so powerful in those few lines and is then offset by the sweeter and softer tones he uses for “flattering child”

The Phantom of the Opera /  Music of the Night

CAPE FLIP AND CARESS!!! Last time I saw phantom there was either no cape flip or I missed it but this time oh boy was that cape flipped!! That sounds weird but I can't properly describe how elegant and controlled it was and the little adjustments he made to  his hair and suit before continuing were just very Erik.

The first “sing” was very low and smooth, not what I was expecting but awesome

Very visceral and physical portrayal of Erik

Erik decided to cop a feel on savour each sensation

Sighed contentedly when he embraces Christine which was so sweet and kind of timid

When he caught himself getting too into it he scuttled away to near his organ corner at the line “music shall caress you”, makes it seem like for him music is a security thing

Quite a lot of hand gestures from his core when singing which made him seem very passionate

Actually caught her this time! (last time I saw phantom Erik just let Christine fall to the ground and it kind of irked me a little)

Held her hand gently on the way to the mirror made him seem sweet

Exceedingly tender when putting Christine down and singing from “you alone”

I remember / Stranger than you dreamt it

VERY into his music!! Leaning into the pages, following along with the notes while he wasn’t playing, scribbling furiously, you could almost see his thought process and it was incredible to watch

It was very Erik and true to character and a real testament to Ben’s acting

The way he was caressing the music almost lovingly as well

The “NO” you could hear the betrayal in his voice, it sounded almost pained

Dramatic “OH!”s before damn you and curse you which actually worked, sounds cheesy on paper but it really sounded genuine while he was performing

Almost violent when he got up in Christine’s face which was pretty scary and I think he scared himself because he backed off and fell to the floor just after that

Ok so Christine is on the floor in front of the mirror cowering away from Erik and almost hugging the mask, and Erik fell to his knees which is where I thought he was going to stop to sing the rest of stranger.

But no.

Ben full on face planted the stage, groveling at Christine’s feet, he tried to reach the hem of her dress but she yanked it out of his reach and shuffled away from him. He crawled towards her on his stomach and then seemed to realise that he was on the floor and got to his knees trying to regain his composure before breaking down harder and turning away from her and towards the mirror hunched and sobbing

I swear he was actually crying

When Christine held out the mask he gingerly reaches out for it and then snatches the mask off Christine, put it back on and then deeply inhaled and exhaled to regain his composure.

You could see from his body language (squared shoulders, head raised, back straight, cold tone, the antithesis to the hunched sobbing figure that was completely and vulnerably Erik a moment before) the moment the phantom persona was back

This whole sequence was just incredible!!!!

Notes / Primadonna

Piangi trying to calm Carlotta down was adorable

Raoul talked a lot to Meg *side eyes*

You could tell that Mme Giry was Meg’s mother when she shushed Meg for saying Christine's name twice and setting off Carlotta

Andre and Firman trying to drown Giry out in Prima Donna while she's next to them trying to reason with them was a good little bit of acting

Lara Martins, again, was amazing!

Il Muto 

The shadow work during the ballet was really good, the running one looked like he was actually trying to get somewhere and the one where erik had is head cocked to the side with a noose around his neck and held above his head was brilliantly creepy.

Seemed seriously angry on “Did I not instruct”

I was at the front of the grand circle so seeing Ben Lewis at the top of the stage was awesome as he was surprisingly close and you could really see his expressions and the wire he pulled to make the Chandelier shake

Christine stayed on the bed in fright even after everyone else had run off

Ben’s laughter was really menacing!! It seriously gave me chills and confirmed that Erik was at least a little crazy

All I ask of you / Reprise

Christine seemed genuinely frightened

Christine ready to fight her case on “Raoul I’ve been there”

Christine and Raoul spinning so much that her cape was askew, they were giggling and it just looked and kissing and it was adorable and kind of made me root for R/C a little

The way Erik said Christine broke my heart and the hands over his ears just cemented that brake

Erik started almost growling before you will curse

He curled his hands almost as claws on the angel statue in anger

I’m pretty sure Ben was crying

As the angel rose his temper rose which was an awesome parallel

Act 2

Masquerade

Protective Raoul making the monkey back the hell off of Christine

Erik being totally dramatic with masquerade

Leaning down so when he was singing

Actually intimidating though

Erik didn't actually look at Christine until “chains are mine!” which made it all the more creepy when he beckoned her over

At which point Raoul pulls her away

Monkey was scared so much by red death that they were on the floor

Raoul and Christine sneaking off to the side to have conversations was adorable

Raoul didn't want to let Christine get taken by the masquerade people but half man half woman person got in his way with an awesome cape!

Andre backing away at the same time as Erik coming forward after catching DJT

Firman putting up his hands between himself and Erik kind of protecting Andre

Notes 2 / Twisted Every Way

Christine Clinging to Raoul before “how dare you”

Protective Raoul on they can't MAKE you! Everyone backs the fuck off at a look from Raoul

Putting people in their place one by one and having them step back looked awesome

Piangi clutching his stomach on “loose some weight”

Andre seemed unperturbed by Erik’s roasting of Piangi and Carlotta, adjusting his clothes and was then quite offended when told his place was in an office, not the arts.

Christine timid I won't do it

We have all been blind without looking at Christine

Christine running to Giry to ask for help

Giry sounded desperate on “kill”

Christine drawing in on herself hands over her ears before “I'll go mad”

Christine trying to fold in on herself during twisted

Even Piangi was trying to get her to sing, Carlotta was saying something kind of off to one side but still close to the others trying to persuade Christine

Ok so in “We have all been blind” you can see a shift in Raoul’s character as he goes from being very protective around Christine and staying near her (or trying to) and looking to her whenever they're on stage together to not even looking at her while they plan to use her as bait to lure the phantom. No real point I just wanted to highlight how good the acting is!

Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again / Wandering Child

Wishing gives me chills EVERYTIME!

Christine’s cape flip was awesome!

The way Kelly was bent double trying to fold in on herself for most of the song made it all the more saddening to watch.

Erik was trying to get closer to Christine, he stood right on the edge of the mausoleum reaching down to Christine, it was actually quite sweet

Raoul held his own a lot better than last time, I could actually hear his lines

Erik’s condescending "that’s right!" to Raoul was amazing

Point of No Return

Raoul Andre Firman and firechief all fall in on the line "audience in" which looked really cool

“Prrrreeeeeeeeeeeeey”

HANDSSSSS!!

Christine seems really into it!!

Looked like she recognised him from the start you could tell by the sort of shock and awe on her face at hearing Erik’s voice

Deep breath before past

Shaky hands

Christine’s "NO!" before last chorus broke me

Erik pulls his hands away from Christine when they are at center stage as though he was burnt

Re tu   u  rn when unmasked (hard to explain but it was kind of like he was shuddering?)

When he tries to leave Erik mutters "no" to himself

You can see the moment it hit him to give Christine the ring

Gets down on one knee like raoul

“You!!” When she takes the hood off

Erik grabs her by the shoulders and runs

Raoul hugs Meg after she finds Piangi

Down Once More / Final Lair

Christine curled up completely on the boat during down once more, you can hardly see her, Erik grabs her hair and drags her up from her hiding place and then throws her back down.

The way he was singing his lines it seemed like Erik was whipping himself more and more into a state of despair at the end of “no compassion anywhere” he sounds like he's crying again.

"Why?!?!?!?!?!?!? 😭😭😭😭"

Raoul decided to strip on the main bridge shucking his overcoat and waistcoat and just leaving them on the bridge for the mob to find… bit strange but oh well.

I’m pretty sure I heard Ben shout from off stage before Christine comes on in the wedding dress? I’m not sure what he said but I thought it added to the tone of the scene.

As they were singing you could see Erik physically recoil from Christine when she talks back to him which gives an idea of just how frightened he is

Reaching for Christine almost gently on "joys of the flesh" and when he touches her shoulder Christine recoils

"A mask" just sounds so broken and pitiful 😢

And once again Erik was edging over to his organ, his little musical corner of safety.

“Pity!” was kinda high and disparaging

Christine grabs the front of Erik’s jacket almost imploringly on “this haunted face”, he seems to stop for a moment and consider her words but then remembers that she needs her bouquet and hurries back into his state of getting her ready and trying to ignore what he’s feeling

"And NOW" Erik slam dunks the Christine manikin off the throne and to the floor

Erik doesn’t seem to give a shit about Raoul and stays in his chair to raise the portcullis

Hands!!! (bringing the portcullis up and lowering it)

Breath when the portcullis comes down

“NOTHING Can SAVE You NOW. .............. except perhaps Christine!”

For “Start a new life with me…” Erik seems really angry and is verry, for want of a better word, grabby. Pulling Christine around, grabbing her hair and forcing her to lean backwards and look at him while he almost leers at her, you can see that something within him has snapped

Raoul actually might be being strangled with the way he's breathing, Jeremy did well at acting that part.

Erik turns to his music for solace like literally buys his face in the sheet music he had before when Christine is singing “tears of hate” and retreats to his organ everytime he is scared

Erik had a very physical reaction to “tears of hate” and he looked as though he was in pain having heard that from Christine

"USELESS pity" wasn't delivered so much as an angry line, it seemed almost pleading? Or distressed??

Christine protecting Raoul, which I always love! And Erik slinking away from her

Erik took her body in his arms on end your days and was almost hugging her??? And then he threw her to the floor on "grave"

Erik was shouting quite a lot.

At this point you can tell that he's just gone, snapped

Erik turns away from Christine before you deceived me and hunches in on himself as though he can block out her words

Once again his reaction to Christine’s words is VERY physical, you can almost see them hitting him like punches.

Ok so Christine is on the floor pleading with Erik (“You deceived me…”) and Erik has his back turned to her and is hunched in on himself crying and trying to block out her words. But at “blindly” he jolts with another sob and then turns slowly to face her, bends down so that they are quite literally nose to nose and quietly almost growls at Christine.

“You try my PATIENCE!!!” as a sob and then a scream on patience

Sobbing profusely now (both me and erik)

Christine takes a second to think

Kiss!!

Erik wraps his arms around christine but can't hand

2nd kiss, Christine puts her hand to his face and he leans into it and then puts his hand over hers and it’s so sweet and almost natural to both of them

They pull back and Erik is seriously shaken

He runs to his organ for protection

Holds candle to Raoul face like he is really going to hurt Raoul

At this point he has gone and is so unpredictable that it wouldn’t have surprised me if he had set fire to Raoul, but he then takes out the line holding up the noose

Raoul has to physically restrain Christine to stop her running over to Erik and comforting him

Erik is a broken mess on the floor

He gets up and chases them out

During “leave me” he actually clings to the front of the organ now crying properly

Christine stands off to the side for a while

Erik is shocked by her appearance and tries to tidy himself up a little

Reaches arm out of the portcullis toward Christine on "you alone"

Holds night for a heck of a long time

Misc.

Breathing! So there were a LOT of moments when you could hear Ben breathing. Sounds strange I know but it was really cool and added a lot to the atmosphere of the production.

Audience - "he's meant to have some form of magic isn't he" 😂

"How has no one found him yet?! He's really camp twirling his cape around backstage, and in his lair there's flames, there's smoke!? He's a fire hazard!!"  😂😂

I got chills from Ben Lewis' voice

To summarise: The people in the cast for Phantom are all incredibly talented and if given the chance I would go and see them again in a heartbeat. And Ben Lewis is by far the best Phantom.
