Writers are often their own PR team, and the same goes for fanfic writers. I like writing gen fic, and so I thought I’d share a selection of Gintama gen fic written by yours truly. Click on each description for a link to the fic. Hope you find something you like!

Tsukuyo and Tae exchange information, assist one another in battle, and enjoy tea and cake and each other’s company.

In the forest, long before the group of young men are ever known as the Shinsengumi, Shimaru teaches a pouting Sougo how to skip a rock on the water.

In a timeline where almost everyone has perished in a great calamity, Kamui journeys through the world alone, trying to ignore the void within his soul while hunting down the enemies who killed his sister and father.

Moments in the life of Sasaki Tetsunosuke, as he finds his place in the Shinsengumi and at the side of Hijikata Toushirou.

Hijikata is unsettled by what he perceives to be a false peace. Tae is exhausted from picking up the pieces again and again. One night, they share in a drink and contemplate war and the future. (Mostly gen, as I explore both of their characters within the Two-Year Timeskip.)

The Shinsengumi navigate the effects of rapid aging during the Ryugujo arc.

Last, but certainly not least, Katsura stars in a series of misadventures: - publishing books and dealing with “mixed reviews" - orchestrating an elaborate plan to capture Matsudaira and Kondou (this story is told from the perspectives of 20 main Gintama characters) - getting stuck in a broom closet with Sacchan and Madao - tracking down a lost video game cartridge

Hello Ray! 🍅 anon here again (I got a breather today). Pulled for Furina earlier to keep my Husband and Wife in the same team (Arle and Yelan), because Yelan was being dragged to the hyperbloom comp. Somehow my Furina is miles more cracked than Arle even though I've spent TWICE as much resin on the latter (I do not. understand.) [And Arle is the one I really do want built :,,,,) )

I know that I can ask you shorter stuff, but so many things pop into my head that I do want to say so these reqs become. really really long by accident oops.

Tumblr protecting everyone else from your Arle angst is REAL. Think it knows how it can break everybody's hearts so it saves us the heartbreak... Wow you broke even tumblr's heart! that's a next level achievement right there xD

Speaking of the occasional angst to let off the steam from the fluff, I think that's our cue to run. If an angst writer needs to let off steam they're about to give us the worst kniving of our lifetime and I think the rest of us should hightail our feelings out of here as quick as we can and read it like a robot /j

Dragon AU wouldn't be that popular if it wasn't so well written. HAHSHAHAH your world building really does do it justice and it shows! I love dragons personally so I am actually d.o.w.n. to discuss dragons (anoncryinginthecorner is me so yes!) and their biology (which differs from species to species which makes it highly interesting! Did You Know that Zhongli, as a chinese dragon, would have 2 pillars instead of one? Hence that C1 HAHSAHHAHA) Also pregnant reader... What did Lyney burn down in his excitement when he found out? Dragons should have a sharp sense of smell and whatnot, so the 4 dragons in the house probably found out that reader was pregnant before reader even knew lmao. Cue trio being extra caring and Arle being excessively protective! PART FOUR PART FIVE OMNOMNOMNOMNOM Also Arle being a whole head and torso higher than R in human form as a dragon is going to be hilarious (there's no need to transform into a full human so Arle goes into a form that saves more energy to transform into, hehehhe). Reader getting embarrassed by EVERYTHING because what do you do when your eye level is face to face with the most delicious abs and thighs possible? Not drool and want to worship even for good snuggles and for use as a pillow?

Dragon!reader makes this all the more interesting! Imagine magicking an egg that hatches as their child! Speaking of dragons a lot of them have what's known as a reverse scale, which is technically a weak point/treasure and getting to touch it is a huge symbol of trust. Thoughts on Dragon!R/Arle giving their SO the scale/letting SO touch it? And horns are really sensitive right? Arle petting D!reader's head and horns... oh my goodness. internally combusting due to Arle!!! Nuzzling deep into Arle's warm neck/chest to hide the embarrassment heheheh...

Also well written sfw blogs are a rare find because everybody is (rightfully) thirsting for Arle, like your mommas (whom I also read but don't dare to req because... tbh idk why they scare me even through the screen HAHSAHAHS I may have worse social anxiety than Bocchi of all people), so don't feel pressured in any way to change it unless you want to! We have your back always (I keep coming back for more of your writing as comfort food HASHHAH)

If I can hazard a guess, nobody req'ed Vampy!Arle yet because the people who would req vampy!Arle and the people who want a continuation of Late Night Devil (which has a similar atmosphere) is a circle (I am a part of it). DISHONOR ON YOUR FAMILY DISHONOR ON YOUR COW (but our fam doesn't even have a cow so the dishonor is going to the resident cat (me))

How about 2 idiots in love who Hanahaki for each other but at the same time don't let the other know it, then someone (HotH trio, Furi, Tsaritsa, ANYONE) just locks them in a room and "here's the one chance you idiots in love have to talk it out, I am NOT opening this damned door if I hear coughing". WAIT NONONO THIS IS NOT A REQUEST THIS IS NOT A REQUEST THIS IS A ONE UPPER YOU HEAR YOU AXOLOTL (I KNOW AXOS DON'T HAVE EARS BUT THEY CAN HEAR SO THAT GOES THE SAME FOR YOU)

I love your fic lists! I have only one miff with them and it's my fault because I've read them all so there was nothing new to read HASHHAHAHA. But getting to read old classics again was great! (Istg why is mlm content so much easier to find... ao3 feeds haikaveh and chili well... but why not us :,<)

Hi, 🍅 anon!! I'm glad you got your Furina even though she was more cracked than Arle, sadge ;-;. Furina is (or was, but I still consider her is) an Archon sooo.

I've searched up why Tumblr may not be letting me post my stuff, so hopefully I can get that fixed. Still really mad. The sad thing is is that I don't have a ton of ideas for arle angst ;-; except for arlevie. I love Clervie and Arlecchino 🫶 (but I love hurting them more). One of my friends is working on an arlevie fic and I'm so excited and I'm patiently waiting...

All of your dragon arle/reader thoughts are so hnghh ajk;flasjlk;as lmfao. Protective Arle 🥹 need. The fact that the trio and Arle can smell the baby before Reader even knows... a;jaafas. I honestly am trying to wrap my head around what a hybrid between human and dragon would be... maybe a wyvern? I have no clue lol. That is a problem for future me while writing dragon au pt.4.

I wish I made dragon reader cuter but I was hella tired and for some reason I kinda couldn't get any ideas. ;-; Also am I the only one who believes that d!arle/reader wrapping their tail around their s/o as cuddling is so 🥺 .

fa;fasjklasf; I'm like. stuck in between. I want to write smut, but I don't want to make it a thing. I know that smut is like 10x more popular than sfw so honestly it's a little tempting... but I'm not going to fall under the trap of more views/engagement! I have my little community here among the sfw and it's really cozy ^^. Also I don't know how nsfw blogs work... like how do you guys constant write horny all the time? I mean, I'm hypersexual but don't yall get tired of the same dicking around?? I'm pretty sure I would get exhausted of writing nsfw even if it's very self indulge.

anyways, point of that was I do want to stay sfw as much as possible, but I wanted to at least try posting smut once because i've never published smut before! and if it gets more engagement than anything I've ever written... oh well. I do admit it's a little saddening to me that I've put what, 3k, 4k, 5k, 6k words, however long my works are, and a 300 word smut blurb gets like more attention. It's unfortunate but eh. The dark side is not worth it. I love interacting with you guys 🫶. I also don't really like the idea of having to restrict my content to everyone, because I do want as many people who want my content to see it (though I hope minors don't read my smut, but they'll probably do anyways and that's just a fact of life I can't change).

I love my mommas, don't be scared (although that probably doesn't help, so...) They're really nice and I talk to them a lot outside of the occasional reblogs and comments under their posts. They have a discord channel if you want to talk to them but not request lol. I'm not in, because I don't use discord and talking to groups of people makes me want to combust...

anyways. I kinda get that those who want vampire arle may want more 'late night devil.' I've also seen you not mention nuit rouge, so to clarify, it's the idol arle with the delicious boob window. It's from the Srping? Hoyofair of this year. and I... need.

lmao, the one upping. what if... arle coughs out rainbow rose or lumidouce bells... that's the only thing i have for an idea currently. I mean @\aetherdoesthings is already making a hanahaki series for arle per my request 🥹 (i love you aether). if you're looking for a hanahaki, there's that. And okay, fine, I won't take this as a requset 🤭. I still have yours to do, which I think is the next one after the current one I have to work on.

ughhhh hearing 'One Hell of A Butler'... it's like nostalgia even tho it's not that old lmfao. I stopped working on it once I got requests and I'm just so-- man the amount of horny I had for demon butler arle... look. it is a really fine and unique opportunity for sub arle which is just so 🤤anyways, enough about that. high key, outside of horny, i had so much plot in mind including reader's and arle's traumatic backstory. maybe if somoene requests it i'll write the next part. 'One Hell of a Butler' was always supposed to be a slowburn but the slow burn is slow burning and oufff i just want to write them together ._.

speaking of another throwback, what about the series that probably built up my following 'arlecchino is a person.' i honestly don't even know how I came up with it, especially with 'arlecchino is a cold angst' (i prolly just wanted angst, and then I got another idea and another idea, and I thought-- why the hell not? might as well make it a series). I do want to do more series like that over my school break once that... maybe of a specific au or i could have each day a different au.

anyways, i've basically yapped as much you have so it's okay. we both know we don't mind haha. looking forward to your next response, whenever that is. no rush!

Random question I guess buuut What are your favorite "fixed" moments from Larry's fics? I mean... the oops and hi, Louis being in love with Harry's curls and his long hair, Harry describing Louis' eyes as being his favourite shade of blue, the tattoos, the birthdays, their families, etc, etc.

Are you put out of reading something if they change the little details? For me it's always rare when they change their birthday's. Louis should always be a Christmas baby

I loathe the oops and hi moment in fics. I know people think it’s cute, but I get pulled out of the fic every time. Honestly, I really hate all of this stuff because it makes me feel like I’m reading MadLibs and the author just plugged in popular head canon.

On the other hand, I like when their ages are kept canon (Louis being two years older) and I like when their birthdays are kept canon. Everything else about their personalities and how they fall for each other is a bit up to interpretation (within reason—although sometimes an OOC fic can be great).

As a writer, I find it hard to continuously write about the same people and make the physical things they notice about the other person (eyes, hair, cheekbones) feel new each time. But I try.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE SERIES I'VE WRITTEN like the whole thing top to bottom bangers imo It's not yet finished, I still have to write my Eli prequel but honestly, if you love Rebels, read this! inside every open eye series! This is a fantasy Magnus Archives fic, in which Sasha steps in to take over the role of the Archivist after Jon goes missing during a ritual for the Beholding. I love a lot of the visuals from this, and I loved writing for Sasha -- plus there's a lot of fun side-stories. This one is complete! Here's tumblr post for the main fic, tiny cracks of light.

my place to land. What is UP SIGNET/ECHO NATION, ALL FIVE OF YOU! I wrote a novel for my rare pair because i am actually three bodyguard AUs in a trench coat captaining the good ship I made up. Twilight Mirage is still my favorite fatt season, because it is exactly my aesthetic and also, Signet is there. This is still one of my favorite fics, even though I can think of many things that i would change upon a rewrite. I got a lot of amazing gift art from friends when I was updating it, too, and I treasure everyone who came to read it!! It is currently still the longest fic in the fatt tag, but not for long it does look like there is someone rapidly catching up with 74k on a 6/14 chapter fic. It was fun while it lasted! Unfortunately, twitter moments went kaput so I will have to figure out some other way to put all the wonderful fanart everyone made for me!

'til my lungs burn bright. Affectionately called my "regency magic spies AU" for Ace Attorney, specifically this is for AA4/Klapollo!! This is a sequel to a fic I haven't finished yet! (Someone encourage me to finish the main fic! it's what i'm supposed to be working on this month!!) I love this setting SO much and I loved making all the little references to in-game moments. Honestly I love everything I write because I am an audience of me first. The current version of my masterpost has links out to a lot of my fics from different fandoms -- like some of my other friends at the table content and my jgm labyrinth au and my lockwood fic! That's my best piece of advice: love what you write, and write for yourself first! And then the two little freaks in your group chat second 💞 I wouldn't have been able to do most of these fics without the besties, so thank you to everyone who has read my novel-length fics.

In the past I've written for Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun, Deltarune, Victoria's Electric Coffin......a friend and I used to write OC/Black Butler crossover fics in like, middle school lol

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Umm I'm not sure! I think most of my fics are happy endings...maybe Worth More Than All the Silence

8. Do you get hate on fics? I've gotten a few weird comments but I don't think I've ever gotten anything outright hateful

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I've written a few fics but must of my smut stays in the Google docs. My asexual ass likes things more focused on the humorous lead up and/or kink than the actual sex part haha

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I think the closest thing I've written to a crossover is the doctor who au I wrote earlier this year — I don't really write proper crossovers :,)

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Me and @indigosienna attempted to write a collab fic back in 2020, but we both ended up falling off of it before we finished (oops). The first chapter is still good though I think!

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Too many fic ideas to list haha

16. What are your writing strengths? I think I'm pretty good at humor and getting into a character's head. Also love writing an emotionally charged scene

20. Favorite fic you’ve written? This is a haaaaard question but currently I'd have to say 1. Learning the Ropes — I originally started this for the RQ big bang in June and didn't make it to the deadline, so it felt like a big accomplishment to actually finish it. Plus I just really like delving into that era of canon and Jon and Martin's whole not-quite-dating shtick they have going on. And 2. Tongue to Teeth — I really love this fic and this au and I was noooot at all expecting the love for it I ended up getting on it. I love this silly au and I'm glad others do as well :,)

Posted in chronological order because it makes as much sense as anything else:

Hesitation - Critical Hit Included not because I'm still particularly fond of the writing in it, I've definitely improved a lot since then, but because the era of me writing for Critical Hit and the audience of 'literally myself because i need to get the ideas out of my head, and if other people even SEE this it will be so cool' was very formative for how I approach writing now. Summary:

The portal home stands open, but Ket, unclear on what he’s meant to do, hesitates. In just one moment, his window of opportunity has passed. And that is how Ket spends the next five years trapped in the feywild with one Orem Rivendorn.

My Boyfriend is (not) a Vigilante- BNHA I just still think I was so silly for this... It was just very fun to write. I feel like if I had to pick a most underrated fic of mine (at least for this fandom) it would be this one. Summary:

In which pro-hero Chargebolt takes the night shift, meets a cute guy, gets radicalized, and totally forgets that underground heroes exist.

Just a Concerned Citizen -BNHA ...The popularity of this one kind of speaks for itself, I think. It's the first fic where I got an idea, sat down, and wrote the whole outline, and its not perfect, but I think it feels more cohesive story-wise than anything that came before it. Plus its long and it's DONE. Summary:

Midoriya Izuku is a normal, quirkless, college drop-out. He's not a vigilante. Everything he does is perfectly above board and totally legal -- He's double checked. It would be nice if everyone else could see it that way, though. (Izuku becomes an informant, sort of. Trouble follows.)

Hand Over Hand Over Hand - Naruto (Founders) Oops, an unfinished fic slipped in here. Weirdly it's sort of the opposite of the last fic, where the outline is so much more vague than I normally make, but I like writing it, and I like thinking about it, and it is my sincere hope that I can make something good enough that it will make people ship the pairing(s) involved like I do.

Summary:

Uchiha Hikaku, asked by his clan head to join his household as a dignified beta, does not think of saying anything other than yes, knowing he will have no opportunity to ever be closer to Madara than this. His duties will include caring for the household, including Madara's new mate. Which is perfectly fine, Hikaku can deal with that easily. At least, he can until Tobirama turns out to be nothing like he expected, in ways that really shouldn't be a problem, but are. It is a decision he may, or may not, come to regret.

The Bandage the Holds Together - Naruto (Founders) One of those fics that was just an idea that wouldn't let me go until it was written, but this one was actually at a reasonable scope. For the first chapter, then I thought "what about Hikaku's POV" and did it AGAIN, and it turns out the difference in how characters think about stuff is fun to think about. Summary:

Soulmates are rare and prized in the world of shinobi. The healing and implicit loyalty always makes for something powerful and prized -- and not something that's supposed to be found between two members of an enemy clan. So, no. Tobirama wasn't expecting this.

✨What's a fic you've posted you wish you could breathe life into again and have people talking about it? (or simply a fic you wish got more credit)

Ohh this is a good question! I’d have to say my three Troisha fics for this one - “Your Light on the Horizon”, “A Different Kind of Human”, and “Resting Place”. There’s just something about Troisha that makes me write better idk. I’m just very proud of these three fics, and there’s a selfish part of me that wishes they got more attention 🙈 (I also think I might rewrite some of my older Dr Who fics at some point, because I think my writing has improved a lot since I first wrote them! So I guess that counts as breathing new life into a fic too)

🌿how does creating make you feel?

Plain and simple, it just makes me feel good. I like being able to play with words and themes and concepts and characters - it gives my English academic literary brain a lot of satisfaction. Especially when I’m putting theory into practice, if that makes sense.

🦋what are you most insecure about when you post a fic?

I guess the fact that I mostly write for rare pairs could count as an insecurity? I worry that nobody will read or care about my rare pair fics just because there’s less of an audience for them. But then again, my brief escapade into writing for a popular pairing resulted in a fair few fics that I’m not that proud of anymore, while I’m generally pleased with the quality of all my rare pair fics. So maybe there’s nothing to worry about after all.

🕯️was there a fic that was really hard on you to write, or took you to a place you didn't think it would take you?

I’ve got to say my two big DS9 multi-chapters for this one, “Springtime on Jupiter” and “Say You’ll Stay With Me”. They weren’t hard to write necessarily, but they definitely went in directions I didn’t expect! I think I’ve mentioned this before, but SOJ is, on a metatextual level, the story of me falling out of love with Garashir as a pairing - it began as a run of the mill Garashir fic, but as I wrote it ended up going to a much weirder, darker place that explores the issues surrounding that pairing. I certainly wasn’t expecting it to go in that direction when I first started writing it! It’s a bit similar with SYSWM, minus the falling out of love with the main pairing part (because I am and always will be a total siskoshir girlie) but more that it went in a much darker direction than I planned. I went into it thinking it would be just a fluffy siskoshir retelling of ‘Pretty Woman’ but oops I dropped angst all over it my bad!!!!

💎 why is writing important to you?

Ok this is going to sound kind of selfish, but writing is important to me because it reminds me that there is something I’m actually pretty good at. It genuinely helps my self-esteem to know that my favourite hobby is something I can do reasonably well. I know the general message we try to encourage on tumblr is that you should feel free to create things and take joy in them even if you aren’t good at them, but I can’t help it - I like being good at things, and I feel better doing what I’m good at than what I’m not. I’m no great athlete or musician or artist, but at the very least I can write some damn good gay fan fiction etc etc

it's probably 'You left me here behind, do you not care?' which has very little room for any hope at all come the end

this is actually harder than the angst one, somehow. like happy? are any of truly happy??

I'm restricting it to things I wrote this year and I'm going to say As we walk with the sun hand in hand from the wreck, which is the 'happy ending' stem of the Xuyao choose your own adventure thing I was working on this year

8) Do you get hate on fics?

I did once, but it was for a fandom I was already over in a work I wasn't like 100% sold on anyway and I found it kind of funny

9) Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

No but as I put in a group chat the other day "every day i inch closer to writing porn and i am not happy about it".

To be fair I don't think I'll ever write full-blown smut, and generally I find that, for what I'm writing at least, having things left implied is better bc then people can imagine whatever they want (and I don't have to write it)

10) Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I do in fact have a NiF/Untamed bodyswap crossover in my docs which I either need to write more of or decide that I'm not going to write any more of and just post as is

I have! There's a French translation of I Would Know Him in Death (At the End of the World)!

Oh man I just went on my posted works on ao3 and I have a les mis fencing au that I last updated in 2020. That's never going to to happen

I struggle finishing anything longer than about 2k which is a pain bc I have lots of ideas that deserve a lot more words than I can focus on writing for them

It's cool when people do it (especially if they have hover-ovre translations)! I haven't ever tried and am unlikely to any time soon

It's tag game time again!

@tabswrites and @hollyannewrites challenged (and I do mean challenged) me to name my top ten characters "decided by their essence or meaning to you."

  A challenge to give your Top 10 favourite characters, based on their ESSENCE. They have to be favourite characters that also have a deeper literary value, where you enjoy their specific role in the story, and this means that the list also should exclude characters that would normally count as favourites if for purely nostalgic reasons. They can be from film, tv, or written media, anything.

Although TBH, I can't believe I'm even attempting to tackle this. I have to choose only 10? I think it goes without saying this list is not exhaustive, nor does it represent all of my favorite books/movies/media. I really did try to capture the question by focusing on "essence and meaning" (including how they've influenced my own writing and not just "random characters I like." I also have to attempt not to write an essay for each because we don't want to be here all night.

Charlotte Doyle (The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi) Rich girl in the early 1800s gets on a ship with a mutinous crew and an evil captain, joins the crew, defeats the captain using only her wits, miraculously makes it home, AND THEN DECIDES TO GO BACK TO SEA AND BECOME A SAILOR. I read this all in one sitting one night when I was about 15 (after avoiding it because I thought it looked boring) and then literally decided to reshape my entire life based on it (I'm not kidding). Yes, I actually took up sailing. Also, there's a hot sailor that she obviously has chemistry with but it's left unresolved, and no one has ever written a future fic about it to my knowledge, and that's a CRIME. So yeah, step right up.

John Bender (The Breakfast Club) He's not just the original '80s bad boy with a Dark and Troubled Past, but what most people forget about him is that he's also hilarious. It's a rare combination. Honorary mention to his love interest, Claire, and not just because of her name.

Fantine (Les Miserables by Victor Hugo) - Mostly the book version of her, though she obviously has a showstopping number in the musical as well. She was the sad, angsty character I needed during the most sad, angsty period of my life. She was a poor, lonely urchin who found fleeting love and happiness in the spring, got abandoned and pregnant in the winter -- and it only got worse from there. Also, apropos of nothing, at one point, I wrote a short story featuring a dog by the same name -- who, um, died.

The Artful Dodger/Dodger (Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens/Oliver & Company) - I'm including both the human version and the dog version of this character because I love them both (though I actually prefer the Disney movie, lol). They're both thieves with devil-may-care attitudes, with soft spots for those more vulnerable than themselves. Plus, the dog version is Billy Joel, wears sunglasses, and plays piano with his tail, which -- I don't care what anyone says -- will never not be cool.

Satine (Moulin Rouge) - She was the beautiful, sparkling, singing, dancing tragic sex goddess I so badly wanted to be. So much so that as recently as five years ago when I reluctantly dressed up for a Halloween party, I chose her silver-dress-and-top-hat ensemble.

Rick Blaine (Casablanca) The most endlessly quotable character from one of the most endlessly quotable and romantic movies of all time. He sticks his neck out for no one. Except, oops, wait, he does. The OG Hollywood antihero with a Dark and Troubled -- whatever, you know the drill. Plus, he's also my dad's favorite character in his favorite movie (and I discovered it because of him), and so this pick has sentimental meaning for me.

Leah Price (The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver) - When we read this book in high school, she was the least popular character, probably due to her unwavering love and support for her dad, even though he was a singular-focused religious zealot who destroyed his entire family by dragging them into the African jungle in an ill-thought-out missionary trip. And then she married a guy with some of the same qualities (but he was better, thankfully). But for whatever weird reason, I related to her most. Anyway, for class, I wrote and tried to perform a monologue where I played her but forgot 90 percent of my lines. Oh well.

Mary Lennox (The Secret Garden by France Hodgson Burnett, I found the movie version fairly meh) There were a lot of spunky, iconic childhood book heroines to choose from, but she was Mary, Mary Quite Contrary, and so I choose her. (I got told to "smile" a lot as a kid). Also, as I mentioned in a previous post, I was a Mary/Dickon shipper before I even knew what shipping meant.

Neal Caffrey (White Collar) - Does anyone remember this show? I have no attention span for TV, and this is probably the last scripted show I remember watching every episode of during its original run, which is saying something. Everything I know about being a con artist (in fiction, lol) I learned from this charming, charismatic art-forger-turned-FBI-consultant. I think he also has the honor of being the subject of the first actual fanfic I ever wrote.

Iris Chase Griffin (The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood) I also had to pick one character of my favorite author, so Iris gets the crown. She starts off the story as an old lady looking back to when she was forced to marry some rich asshole instead of the science fiction writer (with a past that was -- wait for it -- Dark and Troubled) who BOTH she and her sister loved, and meanwhile, her sister became a writer and when she died it was discovered that -- oh, just read the goddamn book, I won't spoil it for you here.

In almost all my fandoms, rarepair shippers have some of the best content I've ever seen. Always quality even if quantity aint a factor. You win some you lose some. But thanks to your blog, I have discovered some truly amazing stuff

Yeah I know what you mean, I used to and still do read crack pairings/rare pairs from fandoms I'm unfamiliar with or are just so small they're barely on the radar, you have to add the pairing manually because it doesn't show up.

I'd guess they're better because the stories were written because someone had a strong idea and was like No ones going to read this but I'm still going to write this! Whereas with popular pairings, sometimes I can tell which fics were born out of a discord echo chamber. The stories mimic each other (you can also see characters warp more into fanon) but it feels more mass marketed imo and less personal

I'm also very pleased roaming sheep has done this well! In my experience, oneshots do better than longfic with regard to kudos.

Yep! I try to reply to all of them, though if someone leaves multiple comments at a time on a chaptered fic I might just reply to the last one. I'm sure I've missed some along the way but I'm always thrilled to get a comment.

6. what’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Angst isn't really the right word, but dead end (FFVII, Cid & Vincent) has a very deliberate ending. I tried to write it like a horror movie, where the ending is sometimes ambiguous or otherwise inconclusive.

Or, well. I suppose roaming sheep has an exceptionally angsty ending, LOL.

7. what’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

It's gotta be the oath, which is literally wedding fic.

8. do you get hate on fics?

Nope, never.

9. do you write smut? if so, what kind?

Any kind, though I'm pretty inexperienced with F/F fics -- I love many F/F couples but I've never been driven to write fic about them, so I'm lacking in that regard.

These days, if I want to write NSFW fic on its own, it's less likely I'll publish it. I'll write it, but I'll keep it to myself. (I wrote a 15k fic earlier this year in this vein.) I've gotten to the point that I generally want the porn to be part of the plot. That said, I do have some ideas for oneshots, so you never know.

10. do you write crossovers? what’s the craziest one you’ve written?

The Fallout/Final Fantasy VII one is the big one. The total fic is almost 350k. I have posted 10k of it. Maybe one day I'll be able to revise it.

My OCs, who I've loved for 20 years. They're married, in love, and I have written approximately 2 million words about them.

Dialogue! I can write banter all day long.

Description. I see the scene in my head like a movie, so I forget... that not everyone does... and I have to write the scene I'm seeing LMAO. I'm working on it.

This is an oddball question. Just write it? Like, either write "they said in (language)" or get an accurate translation of what you want to say.

Sailor Moon, probably. Or Digimon.

Waffling between dead end and blinded by light. dead end was a real stretch for me in a lot of ways and I'm still very proud of it all these years later. blinded by light is just fun, I really like rereading it. heaven can wait (FFXIV, WoL/Exarch, NSFW) falls in this category too, I'm so happy with it.

I find it really interesting maybe because I can see Reo kinda fitting like a bestie position like Chigiri is to you (I think) LOL ESPECIALLY when y/n fills that role of Nagi for Reo before meeting Nagi like I swear I’ve seen a couple (like one or two they’re kinda rare shsgshs) other works that play around with my dynamic and I honestly find it so fun to read so I’m looking forward to that potential next installment!!! i feel like karasu really brings out the teenage boy in all of his duos 😫 like hiori otherwise is so chill and reserved but w karasu he’s suddenly a menace?? and otoya is super go w the flow and relaxed but w karasu he’s ready to talk shit w the best of them 😭 he’s just the right mix of silly and serious it’s so perfect i will always love him

HAHA isagi def gets his fair share of shit but i think he has protagonist aura + we see so much of him off field that people generally agree that he’s a green flag because we really get to know what he’s like in his daily life!! also tbf isagi def is a little brutal on field but honestly he only ever gives back as good as he gets so i think the bad rep is a bit undeserved 😓 i think every example of him talking shit has been in response to another character dogging on him first — hence why players like hiori, nanase, kurona, and ig kiyora haven’t been insulted by him yet!! isagi is just an energy matcher fr 🥱

omg that story that these requests are based off of is sooo extensive it’s an attack on titan fic but it’s based mostly on a part of the world we don’t see in the show so the plot and characters are mostly mine (w some canon ones thrown in there for funsies). it’s probably one of my fav stories i’ve written even though i never finished because that y/n is fascinating — she is forced to commit some crazy war crimes and then has severe ptsd from it, and she’s also very very intelligent and selfish which is a rlly cool combo to write — and so much of the story is focused on her mental health issues and slow spiral. she’s almost like the forebear of hollyhock y/n LMAOO

man honestly i need to reread peregrine too just so i don’t accidentally contradict myself when writing it 😭 reo y/n may and chigiri are such a fun and interesting little friend group because they’re so fluid?? like there’s a lot of dynamics changing around there. and yess chigiri is my bestie!! tbh reo kinda is too even though i find him handsome just because i could never read or write for him…the instant nagi pulls up it’s wraps

i don’t mind shippers but i do agree that the shipping culture has changed a lot from how it used to be!! i have always loved rare pairs because they allow for more unique character exploration but as of late people have been very against rare pairs i feel?? like no you MUST ship “x” popular pairing or else you’re dumb and didn’t understand the media. i’ve also noticed people trying to make the most random ships problematic…it truly is never that deep never that serious and no a ship is not problematic just because the characters don’t like each other in canon or wtvr. that’s the whole fun of fandom and fanfiction!! imposing rules on it takes that away

the epinagi artist is just phenomenal they really do get the essence of nagi down pat…like his cute squishiness but also his colder side?? plus major bonus points for how they draw karasu 😮‍💨

HAHA rin and shidou are HUGE in that art and they’re like the only two characters in the spread i don’t care as much abt 😭 i fear a tabieitaken spread may never happen (unless we get smth w them in epinagi??)…also yes i figured ego was unnoticeable enough that it didn’t matter + he makes sure my pinned isn’t overwhelmed by shidou’s hot pink aura so in the end i can’t complain too much 🤷🏻‍♀️

I get the comments in my email but sometimes it takes me a bit to actually go into AO3 to respond, especially if I haven't written anything recently. But I do try to respond to everyone (though sometimes it's tough when it's just like an emoji? Like what do you reply to that? lmao).

Not really which I'm very grateful for. I have gotten some rude comments a handful of times but they are VERY rare. I think I'm not popular enough to get hate which I'm very OK with LOL.

Yes though it's tough for me so I don't write it a ton.

I've done a couple Supernatural/Teen Wolf crossovers but that's about it and I feel like they're in the same genre so it's not too crazy?

Haha nothing published. I think I've attempted to co-write one a couple times with a few different people but it always stalled out and never got finished.

Oh man. I mean Dean/Cas and Derek/Stiles will always have a special place in my heart forever.

What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Bahah just check out my abandoned WIPs those are all the ones I've accepted I will never finish. The others... I still haven't given up hope so I won't say never. (One that still haunts me that I have mostly plotted out the last chapter is Just Part of the Game and I still haven't given up on it.)

What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm pretty good at dialogue. It's my favorite thing to write especially if it's kind of characters bantering.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I am terrible at descriptions of like setting/surroundings. I often have to go back and add them in while editing because I realized I haven't really shown what the scene is because I've forgotten to describe it.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

Meh. I've done it a few times but I do appreciate having a translation of it handy either in a kind of linked footnote or something? Otherwise I'm clueless haha.

I feel like I have a lot of favorite short fics but I think my most recent ones would have to be Paradise in an Endless Maze (Jungkook/Jimin, BTS) mostly bc it's now my longest posted fic ever and I wrote it in a month, and Our Cat (Kang Yohan/Kim Gaon, The Devil Judge) bc it's what I would've wanted for the ending of that show.

🌵 Favourite playlist: I have several of them, that I listen to depending on my mood. I really like medieval fantasy ambiances like this one or this one that makes me feel like I’m in a tavern. It’s really chill. Other times, when I feel like turning into a villain, I listen to this kind of playlist haha!

🪐 Three good things happening in my life: I met with someone yesterday to apply to a new position I’m hoping I’ll be getting, and that someone was super nice and encouraging and they praised me a lot! It was super nice, especially since I’m not confident with my work (or anything I do oops). I have the most excellent friends who are always supporting me, guiding me and giving me advice, and it really helps to have such amazing people around me. Some of them are here, so I hope you know I deeply care about our friendship even though I’m not always the most vocal about it! <3 Also, I have a lot of projects I’m working on and making progress with, so I guess there’s that haha!

🏜️ Favourite type of comments: Honestly? All of them. I’m very grateful that my drawings get some attention, and I usually get comments under them. I like the Tumblr tags because it’s there that I get most reactions, for commenter would rather write their opinions/feelings there than directly under my posts. I’m so, so happy I can reach people this way! For my fics, it’s even more precious because way rarer (and not just because I’m writing for an extra rare ship almost nobody cares about these days… not that we were that many) but it’s to be expected. It takes time to read a story, and even my short stories can be quite long. I wrote a lot of them as a challenge with friends for the Luminary’s Library of Legends featuring Dragon Quest stories. You may find our issues for 2022 here, and there you have those of 2023. Please go and check my friends’ stories, they’re amazingly well written!! I’m sure you’ll find something you like! It features mostly DQ XI stories and Dai btw!! So yeah, it takes longer to read a fic than to look at a picture, and so I understand why less comments. I thought of writing for more popular things, as well as drawing for more popular fandoms, but I don’t want these precious interactions to just become stats/numbers. I want to cherish them all, though I’ll have to be honest, I’d love to get a bit more comments on my fics ^^; I’ll work hard to make my stories more enjoyable!! (Maybe I should also promote them more?! Haha)

I return, halfway through season 7 and having watched yet another Sidney episode. I was so excited to see him show up in The Billfold Syndrome, even though every appearance is one less I have to look forward to in the future 😅 And admittedly I didn't find the hypnotism to be one of his best ideas, but I mean it worked! And the way he hugged that soldier once he figured out what happened just got me right in the heart, he's just the sweetest man I SWEAR 💕 I also just love his dynamic with both Hawkeye and BJ, he works with them so well and it delights me to no end. In my humble opinion, this show seriously underused Allan Arbus. Also, last time I sent an ask you mentioned you had some favorite episodes in S7 that you wouldn't mention yet, and I now request that you mention them! I like to look out for episodes I know other people enjoy. And I've definitely had some that I've loved--None Like It Hot was just so fun and light! And Point Of View was such an interesting take on the show, it was a fascinating way to mix up the standard episode format and show us something a little different yet still so in tune with the tone of the rest of the show. It also gave me the opportunity to experience BJ and Hawkeye smiling at me in a first person point of view, which, I'm not complaining 😂 Anyway that will conclude my rambling for now, but I also wanted to let you know that it made me very happy to know you enjoy my random appearances into your inbox 💕 I hope you're doing well, and thank you so much for all your contributions to this fandom!

Augh, The Billfold Syndrome is such an interesting peek into how Sidney's mind is working and how his craft is shifting, advancing, growing through the war. I always find it fun to remember that in the midst of the early '50s when he's operating, there really is a lot of stuff being thrown at the psychiatric wall to see if it sticks or not. Add in the fact that a lot of the more popular or "accepted" treatments involved a lot of violence being done against institutionalized patients without their full consent, and frankly it is remarkable what techniques Sidney works with in comparison. Like the hypnotism is a bit of a question mark in a lot of ways, especially to us modern viewers, but there is such a sense of compassion in him choosing to work with a technique like that and it softens me toward him even more. A surprise to no one, I'm sure.

No one is surprised either to know that Hawkeye, BJ, and Sidney are a HUGE rare ship of mine. I'm also obsessed with their interplay. They're so much fun to consider (especially given BJ who absolutely should've had sessions with Sidney and who never does, whether intentionally or unintentionally, oops who said that).

I really would've loved to see more Allan use also. I adore so many of the episodes he's in—a lot of them are my high high favorites tbh—and I always take some measure of delight in knowing that many people involved in the show clearly knew what a gem they had in him. I think a lot about Alan writing/directing Dear Sigmund and War of Nerves, for example, these episodes that give us interesting peeks into multiple characters but that really had Sidney at the center of them. They wouldn't have flowed so well without Sidney being the linchpin, and Alan clearly knew that as he was constructing them. Good on you, sir. Thank you for shining such a bright light on our special guy.

Oh man, S7, so many bangers (same with S8 and S9, PHEW, you're in a good run of them rn). I'm legit just gonna pull up the episode list here and go through all of the ones in S7 that I enjoy so so much for various reasons (some agonizing). I love Peace on Us, Lil, The Billfold Syndrome, None Like It Hot, Major Ego, Eye for a Tooth, Dear Sis, Hot Lips Is Back In Town, Preventative Medicine, A Night at Rosie's, and The Party. If I can be honest, I enjoy almost all of them to quite a high degree, but those are the ones that if I saw them gifsets or caps of them, I'd probably go !!!!! and be pointing emphatically at the screen. Also just fucking ones like They Call The Wind Korea, B.J. Papa San, C*A*V*E, like, FUCK, it's just a GOOD FUCKING SEASON AAAAAA wow wow wow. Did you know MASH is a good show?
