I cannot emphasize how great the firestar-Sans team is. PROPAGANDA
Canon Firestar things.
Hated a child for like half an arc because he looked like his dad
Saved his fathers gay lover from exile
Killed his Emo Half-Brother after said half-brother RIPPED THEIR MUTAL ENEMIES STOMACH OPEN
Started dating his meangirl ex-bully
Had a crush on a cat-nun/doctor- that persisted after death to her ghost
The only Warrior Cat to ever be ok with adoption (Cloudtail)
Despite being called one of the most ‘morally right’ protagonists, he has KILLED SO MANY PEOPLE
Commits cat crimes (religious flavor)
As said before-hand he possessed someone and immediately went back on the murder grind.
is hardcore and attached a trans pin to his bare fur (dubiously cannon)
Is a cute kitty cat.
Sans-
Is now hanging out with a feral cat that probably has like 7LV
Silly
I don’t need to explain Sans undertale
But just imagine the funny man hanging out with a bright orange murder cat.
in a fight Firestar would win. Sorry not sorry
yea but u forgot to mention how the half brother ripped their mutual enemies stomach open specifically so hard that he went thru all 9 lives that clan leaders are granted instantly. which i think thats the ONLY time thats ever happened, more than one life being lost at once, unless it happened again after i stopped reading. thats how murderey that lil guy was.
(christ did yall ever read the scourge backstory manga? bc god that thing was ROUGH. he just wanted to use the tooth to get the collar off....)
that doesnt contribute to firestar i just think that scene embedded itself in my brain

@devotion-that-corrupts Okay, so I finished reading Long Shadows the other day and I'm just like ajqjjwjwjwjejje
I was not expecting Jayfeather to have a past history with the cats who would become The Tribe of Rushing Water. I hope we get more details on this!
Also, I really like seeing how Jayfeather, Lionblaze and Hollyleaf are all upset at the thought of not being the three cats in the prophecy. How, after thinking it was them for so long, they now may no longer be special. And honestly, yeah if I were them, I would be the same. I mean, it would be kind of cool to be 'special' and have a higher destiny, you know?
As for Ashfur. Bruh, I cannot believe that even after all this time he is bitter and resentful that Squirrelflight chose Brambleclaw over him. Sksjskwkkwkwke. I thought maybe he still disliked Brambleclaw, but ultimatley had moved on from it. But nope. Talk about yikes.
If Squirrelflight isn't their mother, my suspect is Leafpool because it's interesting that she gave Jaypaw the full medicine cat name of Jayfeather. That and in the bonus story, After Sunset: We Need to Talk, she wanted to tell Crowfeather something, but he refused to listen and she told him she hoped both would not regret talking. And I'm just like hmm...
Anyways, back to Ashfur and Squirrelflight. Can't believe he was found dead, but yes I can. Lol. I'm surprised Jayfeather and his siblings didn't automatically think it was Squirrelflight who killed him. I think she did it because both were missing, until Squirrelflight arrived to go to the gathering and covered in mud. Like not suspicious at all. Lol. Plus, her pretty much panicked reaction at Firestar stating his belief that it's likely a Thunderclan cat that killed Ashfur. I'll just have to keep on reading to find out!! So much good stuff always happening in these books!
Oh, and not just the mainline series, I've also read Greystripe's Adventure manga #1-3, the Guidebooks Secrets of the Clans and Cats of the Clans, the Super edition #1 - Firestar's Quest, The Rise of Scourge manga, and Tigerstar and Sasha #1 - Into the Woods manga.
I've pretty much been reading the series in publication order using this guide.

Thought up a few interesting things for the Squid Memes AU
1- Desti was an Elite Octoling back during Splatoon 1, and she and her squad (the three other Octolings that would go on to become the Octoposse) were among those who defected after the battle. Though interestingly, she didn't actually hear Calamari Inkantation like the other defectors, seeing as she was recovering from injuries she sustained fighting Agent 3 and thus wasn't present for the battle/concert. She just found out that her teammates were running away and was like "not without me you're not."
She's fully aware that Paige is Agent 3 (once she finally runs into them on the surface at least) and thinks it's honestly kind of funny that the so-called "Scourge of the Domes" was a freaking kid when they tore through the place, and that of all the people she could've gotten into a rivalry with it of course just had to be 3's big sister. She doesn't tell Meggy both because she's not about to out the kid like that and because it amuses her a little that Meggy doesn't know.
2- Axol and Pearl have been friends since they were kids, partly because I figure it would make sense if the tiny angry rich girl who sings too loud and the otaku who figured out fucking magitech and built a pen that could bring his drawings to life because he was lonely got lumped in together as the Weird kids nobody likes. Plus Marina canonically reads manga so even if Pearl doesn't like anime stuff herself we know someone else liking it isn't a turnoff for her.
3- So for this one I'm also pulling from Spongebob Squarepants canon because I needed an explanation for Heavy Squid and all the other Squidwards we see.
Okay, so we've seen in a few episodes of Spongebob that there are a bunch of squids/octopi/whatever Squidward's meant to be that look almost exactly like him. Obviously there's Squilliam but there was also that town of Squidward lookalikes he moved to once. Well, in this that's because they're not Squids or Octopi, they're instead a fourth (yes, fourth. we count Salmonids in this house) type of Inkfish that I'm tentatively calling "Schnozlings." In terms of abilities they're sort of a halfway point between the playable Inkfish and Salmonids, where they can live underwater thanks to having the right kind of respiratory system and thick enough skin to not get splatted by the ink-eating microbes, while also having Swim forms (which unfortunately aren't microbe-resistant like their humanoid forms).
Their swim forms are round, with six tentacles that all look similar to the long tentacles of an Inkling's swim form, while their humanoid forms are...well...Squidward lookalikes. Complete with four "legs," no fingers, a long droopy nose (hence the name Schnozling) and in a few cases the ability to grow hair on their heads like a human. As a side-effect of their microbe-resistant thick skin, most of them don't have any way to display their ink color in humanoid form, while their Swim forms are color coded just like Inklings and Octolings.
(And yes this means I'll have to redesign Heavy Squid to look less like Heavy and more like Squidward. But still big and muscular because that's his Whole Thing.)

Warning there is gore on this post ! I am trying to use the mature content option, I hope I did that right !
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Heatherpaw nightmare scene ! I only have few memories of how it went, but I do remember Lionpaw being genuinely horrified about that dream.
I kept the idea that Lionpaw is left-pawed, meaning he would always use the "Scourge paw" to fight / kill !
In the au, that nightmare would be one of the first indication of a shift in the Scourge reincarnation. I guess adult Scourge would be completely unfazed by killing an apprentice, but Tiny certainly would, he doesn't seem to have that "born evil" vibe, and more of a "becoming evil due to fricking Tigerstar" vibe ? I did read Scourge's manga, but it was a long while ago, so I might be wrong on that !
Anyway, Lionpaw doesn't seem to enjoy killing his friends in his dreams. .......yet?
(Also thanks again for the support and the ideas and comments you all share !! I will try to illustrate some more ideas when I get the time ! :))

Ravenpaw becomes scourge, Smudge becomes bone, and Princess becomes Brick. Bloodclan isn’t a horrible lawless place(haven’t read scourge’s manga so idk what the writer’s view of it is) and they all be gay. And do crime :>
Fuck yeah dude! I don't think Bloodclan is viewed as a horrible place in Scourge's Graphic Novel, but, it's viewed that way in the RavenPaw graphic novel with Barley's backstory which fucking sucks
But I love the idea of Smudge and Princess becoming Bone and Brick respectively. What if Hattie was Fury

A character archetype I really like
After my recent reading of Pact Dice: Mile End, I once again started thinking about a character archetype I really like.
It can be summed up as such: "A character gains access to a very strong power, a power that is 'dark', easy to use with devastating consequences for both the attacked and the attacker. No matter who they are, they will be feared." It's a tad long more long-winded than I initially intended, but it gets the point across, I think.
Though I won't shirk examples, starting with two obvious ones: Naruto from Naruto, and Blake from Pact. The former learns that he is the host of the strongest demon, while the latter discovers that he inherited demonic magic.
I don't remember if I ever read a story in which the protagonist was eager to use this power, and it's easy to see why: in-universe because they presumably wish to live a long live, out-of-universe because it removes a lot of the stakes if our protagonist just shoots to the top of the power pyramid. (While you, as the author, can make it so that 'There are actually several tiers of powers above yours.' that feels like a bit of a cop-out.)
But despite these challenges, I love it when the character leans into this power. Burns bright and burns up, confirms the fears of everyone else, and maybe even comes out more or less in one piece; though this last one is a bit much, I admit.
Let's return to the previously mentioned works to see how they fare on this front: As far as I got in Pact, Blake never used demons/demonic magic, which made me sad.
Naruto, though, has good moments. Despite his refusal to use the demon's power, there are situations where he's forced to, life-or-death when the demon comes out and we truly see how far above everything else it is.
He never goes all-out though; he doesn't deliberately use the power, it's accidental on his part. He restrains himself, each time it happens, stopping it from advancing.
That's how it goes in Part 1, and for the start of Part 2, it's the same. There's one delightful moment where we see him reach a new best of 4 out of the 9 tails against Orochimaru, but after that he doubles-down on his refusal to use the power.
That is, until Pain's assault on Konoha. After the titular villain levels the village, and restrains him rather painfully, he is still adamant about his refusal. It changes though, when the girl he likes/loves puts herself in front of Pain to defend him, causing her to be 'mortally injured'.
The ensuing fight is my favorite one from the entire manga. Nothing even comes close. He willingly lets go, immediately manifesting 6 out the 9 tails, and only increasing it from there. When you realize that he was capable of this destruction the entire time, it recontextualizes a lot of Part 1.
What I wanted to illustrate with that is how exhilirating it is, in my opinion, to see the power used.
Anyways, the character who brought this little write-up on is called Gail Neumann, one of the player characters in the aforementioned Mile End campaign. Of the six main characters, she is by far the most powerful in a fight, and her feats outshine everyone else's.
Her Practice is about calling on the Abyss for power; she's a Scourge, infecting others with Taint. The Abyss is eager, easy to use but volatile and with a lot of potential to over-harm.
Watching her use it is thrilling. I love how freely she does it, not even watching the slippery slope. I want more of this, characters given great power, who when confronted by others, lean on said power, damn the consequences; while their lives might not be long or happy, the lives of their enemies won't be, at all.
Crawling through the Pact Dice docs, I found even more of this kind of power-user in the Otherverse, a whole category of them in fact: Harbingers: "Chosen of a higher power or powerful other, who bears their strength & serves to clear the way, metaphorically. Tends to come with transformations, changes, costs in other forms, far more direct, and doesn't necessarily have (or rarely has) a direct line to the power.  Practice includes ambient effects on surroundings & altered consequences to their actions (ie. fights happen around them), balancing act to restrain this or release it without too much casualties.  Harbingers are rarely inducted willingly, but rather forced to become a harbinger by intervention of powerful other, by family, or by accident."
Writing this up, I think I may be able to put it into words better than at the start: "This character archetype is about using power that is heavy: a heavy price for a heavy effect. What I like, is when they pay the price, over and over, using the power despite the cost." I love the atmosphere it creates, of barely restrained aggression just under the surface, of the fear it creates in others, and the volatile release when the fight finally erupts.
(Looking back, there are a couple fanfics that managed to get somewhat close. Here's a short list:
[Naruto] Red Eyes in the Dark
[Harry Potter] Antithesis
[Naruto] Introverted)

something about the rise of scourge is such a strange book to me. we learn that firestar is related to scourge through a retcon of a character you wouldnt know existed unless you read tallstar's super edition. we learn that scourge is OLDER than firestar because tigerPAW beats him up,and it's revealed that scourge has been waiting for actual months to get revenge on tigerstar? bro, surely you have better things to do with your time.
Oh my god dude, you don't even understand how funny it was to be there. Tallstar's Revenge (2013) came out YEARRSS after Rise of Scourge (2008). We didn't really know who Jake was yet. I was a little baby child reaching the scene where Scourge's mom cuddles the picture of Jake like it's this BIG TWIST REVEAL and I was like,
"Wow!! Scourge's dad is Some Guy!"
I remember I liked it well enough as a kid, but always felt... kind of underwhelmed? Because Scourge really isn't as bad as they built him up to be in Darkest Hour.
They REALLY HAMMERED him in as this pure evil ball of malice who banned having families, kills people at will, and one-shotted the big bad of the entire series... and then the manga mostly portrayed him as being reactionary, not actually making choices to amass political power or become physically stronger.
He didn't even really seem to hate Tiger in Darkest Hour, it was more that he just mowed him down for threatening him. So I remember getting to Rise of Scourge and appreciating the art more than the story (because i was a little weeb).
He didn't even kill his shitty siblings, dude. Weaksauce. Little Bones wanted BLOOD.

This was a lot of fun to do. But, made me realize so much I need to learn. Still it was a fun experience! And while I wasn't 100% satisfied. I made notes on things I need to work and focus on. I think I'll definitely do more of these. Keep drawing outside my comfort zone. I did a lot of experimenting on this and decided that it was finished for now. Anyway! Some idea Time! WARNING: Please note I'm rating it mature down below the keep reading line as it's bloodborne lore stuff. Which means blood and dark themes. If you don't like, just ignore.
So one of the ideas I had with bloodborne/MHA is that Aizawa and Yamada both go to the city in order to get the miracle blood healing. As they both contracted a disease back in their home town. They heard from a friend, Oboro, that he went to the city where he got a miracle blood healing and was cured. So they decided to go and get treatment. They were able to get the treatment. But, it was for a price. The two had to work as hunters in order to combat the beastly scourge. Something that was slowly spreading farther out and across the world. Aizawa and Yamada were apprehensive, but they had to agree. They eventually get sucked into the hunter's dream. Where they first meet Yagi. An older and sickly looking hunter who basically tells them about the hunters dream and it's uses. As they are about to leave. Aizawa noticed something sitting on the steps. What he first thought was a child he finds out to be a doll that looks like a kid. One with green hair and eyes with little freckle. They are kind freaked out how life like the doll was. But, they both felt bad just leaving the boll on the dirty steps. So they brought him to sit on a scarf that Yamada had before leaving.
When they come back after consuming their first insight and slaying a beast. Izuku is there cheerfully greeting them at the hunter's dream. Which freaks them out completely.
Eventually, they learn more and more about everything. How the beastly scourge first started. About the blood. About the church and the hunters.
Especially about the great ones. I had the idea that Yagi, who is in charge of the hunter's dream, used to be a well known hunter that went by All Might. But, he sustained a terrible injury and had to essentially be forcefully retired. Due to this, Yagi felt hopeless and made a wish to a great one (One for All). Izuku used to be a sickly child who desperately wanted to be a hunter in order to protect people. Izuku knew All Might since he was little as his mother was apart of the healing church and the two met plenty of times. Eventually, one day when Izuku was heading home. He saw All Might in an alley and followed him in order to ask him the question. Like the manga/anime he asks All Might if he could be a hunter. All Might, knowing sickly and innocent Izuku was. Told him no and that he needed to be more realistic. He then leaves Izuku in the alleyway never realizing that a hunter gone mad wandered into the alley. When Yagi heard the noise he was almost unable to make it. This is where he reaches out to a great one, One for All, to help. One for All takes pity on Yagi and traps them in the hunter's dream. OFA essentially puts what is left of Izuku and made him into a doll. Both of them now trapped within the hunter's dream. Yagi tends to avoid Izuku because of the amount of guilt he has over the child. He wants Izuku to be free from the nightmare they are now trapped him. One for All wants to kill another great one. Which is his brother All for One.
Aizawa mainly hunts beasts while Yamada was designated as a hunter of hunters. But, they both still kill beasts or sadly other hunters if the need arises.
Both of them adore Izuku and shower in attention. Something Izuku craves as it is very lonely in the dream. There are many hunters connected to the dream, but one of them, Shigaraki Tomura, is close to Izuku. Tomura thinks Izuku as a little brother. Tomura is also kinda of a double agent as he works for AFO. But, in the end, he wants to kill all great ones. The ideas get jumbled a bit here. But, I had it where Aizawa and Yamada face off Yagi as they refused to leave the hunter's dream. Not wanting to leave Izuku. Yagi thinks they gone made and decides to a mercy killing to them in order to wake them forcefully from the dream. They successfully beat Yagi and were forced to kill them. Both of them becoming the host of the hunter's dream now. For Tomura, he manages to defeat several great ones. Consuming three cords and basically becoming an infant great one that takes shelter in the hunter's dream for now. OFA is all... cool. I got two hosts for the dream, a doll, and a surrogate child. I am on a roll. OFA created the hunter's dream in order to continue to slay great ones. Out of all of them OFA really like humanity, but is considered sickly and weak.
He had other hosts to the dream before. But, he has a soft spot for Izuku, his two dads, and dry skinned brother. Some other idea notes was that sadly Inko turns into a horrible beast after the disappearance of her son. Not knowing what happened to him. Bakugou, a young hunter student, finds out what happened to Izuku after coming into the dream. He's the one to give Inko mercy and ends her suffering. Izuku still does analysis and helps hunters level up their skills. He also gives weapons he thinks they would be better suited with. Izuku also still has the scarf that Yamada and Aizawa gave for him to sit on. He keeps on his person.
Anyway, that's all the brain worms I had while making this picture! I hope you all enjoy. <3

Fate if you read Warriors I need you to know exactly 0% of Scourge's backstory is in the main line books and you'll just have to read the Rise of Scourge graphic novel. Back in the day they used to call the graphics novels ""manga"" because they realized on a vein diagram of "Warriors fan" and "Anime fan", Warriors fan is a perfect circle within the broader category of Anime fan and it was so cringe (affectionate) and dumb. Scourge's "manga" is uniquely drawn in a completely different art style from every other Warriors graphic novel to make it look MORE like anime to appeal to their absolutely edgelord baby furry audience. It's great. Ow the edge. - heronandcrow
I think this is my favorite thing about fandoms- like, i'll express vague interest in getting into a thing and at least one person will come out of the woodwork with useful info about where and how i should start given the angle i am approaching the thing from etc. There;s good in this world mister Frodo <3
