Finally had the time and hands to work more on my corset. This is based off of dozens of various brassieres, bust supports, and corsets from around the early 20th century.
The goal is that this will be an everyday wearable that will support and compress my bust and provide just general smoothing and support. So there's some boning in the front, and there will be some boning in the center back, the majority of the support is going to come from the cording.
I'll likely be working on it more during Drawfee's TransRigs stream on Saturday, so maybe even fit pics soon.

WEDNESDAY ADDAMS COSTUME.
This year I had a different approach to Halloween, I didn’t want to sew a costume that would end up in the top cupboard, I wanted something useful. That’s why I went for a shirt dress, like the ones the Addams family’s daughter wears.
Tumblr media
In order to trace it, I included the darts so it had more shape than what a shirt has, I didn’t make yokes and I also included the box plates in the front panels son it was easier and faster to make.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The collar and cuffs are just ornamental and because they are white, they give it a dramatic look.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But the best thing about the garment is how useful it is, you can wear it this whole season as a dress, with thick tights, or as a shirt, matching it with a pair or trousers as well.
Tumblr media
Either way, a wearable “costume” that is part of a responsible wardrobe!

honestly yeah, fiber arts is magic. you cast spell of warm gloves, spell of nice hat, spell of stuffed animal.
material component: yarn
wand: single hooked wand or double pointed wands, depending on caster's preference
mechanical component: specific motions repeated in a particular pattern
time component: a while
look seriously the first step in a knitting recipe is "cast on", and then it's a bunch of letters and numbers incomprehensible to anyone not versed in the arcane art. that's a spellbook. yes it's a book of knitting patterns but also. it's a spell book.

Something incredibly satisfying about knowing your craft and the confidence that goes with it. Just the casual “yeah I could make that”. Want a band tee? Yeah I can embroider my own with the lyrics I want. Bridesmaid dress too long? Yeah I can hem it. Need new slippers? Yeah I can crochet a pair (and give them bunny ears). And of course it’s not perfect but nothing beats that feeling of being able to craft your own solution with your own two hands

(content warning: blood)
Sewed Up Heart
[ID: A Trigun comic done in grayscale with red accents. First, an anatomical heart gushes blood, forming a puddle which shifts into Vash's coat. Vash's gloved hands can be seen sewing up a tear at the hem.
Vash raises his hands, which are now bare and covered in blood. He looks sweaty and distressed, and he raises his coat to his face and cries into it. His clenched hands rip the sewed portion apart, and the red thread leads to a heart whose own stitches are tearing apart. The background gets darker and darker, and the red looks brighter and starker against it.
Then the background returns to white, and brown-skinned hands using embroidery scissors snip a red thread. Wolfwood holds up Vash's repaired coat, grinning proudly, and does a happy thumbs-up in Vash's direction. Vash lifts his head, seeming distant.
Wolfwood holds out the coat. As Vash puts out his hand to take it, the cloth is replaced so Wolfwood is dropping a sewed-up heart in Vash's hand. Vash rubs the coat against his face with a teary smile. End ID] ID CREDITS

the “Jean Moreau and Jeremy Knox are golden retriever/black cat boyfriends” mindset is correct, however: may I propose that when they were younger, Jeremy was the black cat and Jean was the golden retriever?

Back in ye olde small phone days, I had this little pouch that clipped to my backpack strap and it was so great - my phone and transit card (and mini Maglite, chapstick, earphones etc) were right there! No having to dig them out of my pack! But all joy is fleeting and when I upgraded my phone, it didn't fit. No more convenient pouch.
Except fast forward to now, in possession of both loom and sewing machine, and it hit me that I could just...make one that did fit. So I did!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wove the cloth on the rigid heddle out of 4ply merino/silk and the bands on the inkle loom out of 8/4 cotton, grabbed some quilting cotton for the lining, and sewed them all up into a little zippered pouch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A band runs up the back with a clip that clips to the D-ring, and I sewed velcro to the side bands to wrap around the strap and secure it in place. It holds my phone and everything else, right where I need them, and I'm so chuffed!

Figured I'd show it off before the whole doll jacket is sewn together. I am tickled pink by how cute this pie embroidery came out for the back detailing for this little plaid jacket X3 I may have to make more pie embroideries in the future, though I will be using seed beads next time as the French knots were a bit annoying to do for the cherries.

HALLOWEEN KIMONO.
Tumblr media
Maybe Halloween is not your cup of tea, but you probably still have to answer the door for children who are asking for sweets, and I thought it would be fun to sew something you can easily put on, like a kimono.
I remembered there was one in the Patrones magazine I got in March, so I went straight for it, simplifying the pattern a little.
The result is a simple but fun garment to wear to a small gathering or to answer the door!

I know I've talked about how Mihawk sews and embroiders, and probably was already making/embellishing his clothes since his first appearance, (roger's execution pink tulip patches my belove-eds) but I'd like to emphasize that this man is 100% his own combination tailor/milliner/cobbler. He sews his clothes and makes his hats and there's whole 50s housewife-esque sewing room in his castle. Those v-notch-waistband pants are a perfected pattern and you know it. Whenever he meets up with Shanks he spends 30% of their time together fighting and the other 70% darning Shanks' shirts. He handmade Perona's glow-up fit because nothing hit right for her at the local op hot topic. Definitely monograms his towels. Gets bored in the Cross Guild one day and spends the better part of a week hemming Crocodile's pants and letting out his waistcoats. Keeps a needle and thread pinned inside his coat. Bills the WG for "upkeep expenses" when he decides to go ham on the latest silk exports.
