how do you recommend getting into writing for newsies, i really want to but i lack the confidence as i’m worried about being inaccurate???

hi ml!! honestly, i just threw myself in head first. the newsies fandom, in general, has such a little following that most people are happy with whatever content they can get. at least, that's my opinion.

however!! if you want to fully immerse yourself, LOTS of people do character studies on here. i also recommend checking out a couple of other blogs and reading what they have written for newsies! a couple of good blogs (for character studies & newsies fics) are:

aside from all that, i truly think the newsies fandom is one that strives on headcannons. as long as something you write for your character can make sense based on something from canon, you're set. and even if it isn't based on something from canon, who's gonna tell you no? people might disagree with how you write a character, but at the end of the day its YOUR fanfiction and YOUR interpretation.

when it comes to newsies, i think that as long as you understand the characters on a surface level, you can't be too inaccurate. which isn't to say that you shouldn't take the time to dig deeper into the characters, you definitely should! but i think if you understand the basics of a character, that's a really good place to start. you may even find yourself learning more about the characters as you write for them.

also interviews from the actors are good. while not technically canon, they have a better understanding of the characters then i think a lot of us do. uksies specifically has a lot of interviews where they talk about character interpretations.

Jungkook is basically a very direct, honest person. He doesn’t spend a lot of time hiding things because at the end of the day he does not give a damn what we or anyone else think of him. The way this chapter made my heart hurt and flutter at the same time. The “Mrs. Zenin” had a nice ring dont ya think😏😏😏. Toji is so sweet to the MC and I think it’s so refreshing to watch their relationship blossom.

Gojo on the other hand😐… can still take a long walk off a short pier. My family bullied me for it white ppl did too and so did black folks. blk ppl ask me which one of my parents are non African but they’re both African… I think because I don’t express my African identity in the same way everyone else does, they assume it’s cuz I’m just mixed hence why I’m different. But everyone else also thinks I’m just too African for them so we never connect. Ppl joke about how I’m not black cuz I don’t like afrobeat and I can’t dance and I prefer metal music (I know tragic). But i’m kinda insecure about how ppl view me as not black enough because of that… today this girl kept saying she can’t see any African in me cuz I don’t listen to afrobeat and can’t dance ect and it made me really actually really upset for some reason… it’s not that serious I know but I wanna know. was I being a lil bitch today and should I move on or was that something worth getting upset over?

Literally don't worry about it. I'm not saying that to minimise your insecurities; you're right to be upset over your heritage being dismissed like that. I also used to feel very alienated from black culture when I was younger. But like…do not worry about it 😭 esp on MY tumblr…over HALF of my black mutuals are into metal/rock/etc. As are a lot of my black friends. A lot of traditionally African people think its not black because well, its always seen as a white genre even tho really…its OURS. But there are plenty of renown black metal and rock artists. Plenty of black people like metal & rock imo too, its just they haven’t heard a song they like yet, imo.

As for dancing…thats just niggas being niggas fr. I know it's tough, I really…really hated being picked on by family when I was younger for things like this, but black people are maybe the biggest shit talkers on the planet. Its a thing where if you do dance after being pressured into it, they're gonna laugh about it for the next five years like it’s the funniest thing they’ve seen in the planet. AND PRAN BEING SO CUTE?? can you believe?? him doing all that just to see pat smile i’m sooooo. the virtual hug???? the comfort pat feels just by having pran’s shirt (scent) and pran’s comfort being pat’s earphones like.. ep4 pran is literally somewhere crying. he wouldn’t even believe ep8 pran exists.

and the last section!!!! i feel like their fight was a culmination of the same exhaustion that pran was talking about w wai. like both pran and pat are experiencing it, it’s just their feelings about it are different. i think pran felt that the exhaustion was just something they’d have to deal w if they wanted to safely continue on while pat is just dealing w the exhaustion because he wants to do what makes pran comfortable. also pat playing the xylophone and all those flashbacks between the two of them.. oof

so yeah, feels all over the place and I haven't had time to rewatch the episode yet, which .... UGH, I want to! But damn that was amazing! *_*

They really came for our souls with their PDA and their cuteness and LOVE™, like I felt so damn attacked but also addicted to them at the same time. Because yessssss, the breakfast scene? The car scene? Pran going home because he knows Pat will be there and he wants to support him? The vitual hug?? The way they are so happy and in love around each other? It felt as if I've been attacked by rosa cotton balls until I was bleeding but I couldn't get enough.

Tbh I kinda expected more pain to start but the amount we got was already enough Q.Q

You're right about the exhaustion. They're both so happy when they're together but everything around them makes it so hard to be true and honest about their feelings, especially because it makes them so happy. For Pat it's even more difficult to hide it, but even Pran feels the weight of it and him saying it all in front of Wai hurt q.q

Still, they're amazing the way they are together. How each other's happiness and comfort is their priority. How they're also making sure to talk. How it's always both of them, not one. Despite all tropes, P'Aof really threw all the stereotypes into the trash with those two! <3
