ooh what about omnigender zane! i've been 'rewatching' ninjago (well as much as one can when the last time you saw the show was nine years ago and you don't remember shit) and i just feel like zane has all the genders ever, idk, i just think he's neat!

Zane didn’t really understand the concept of gender, mostly because his father never brought it up and it isn’t the most common conversation to have with your friends. all he knew was that his pronouns were he/him, because that’s what everybody called him by

she started using other pronouns for herself when she met Nya, because she was the first person Zane had become friends with that used she/her pronouns. Zane found she liked the sound of she/her and started using them, but never told anybody else

then he meets PIXAL, and that’s when things really change. PIXAL is wonderful, and Zane ends up shyly asking her if she can also use she/her pronouns for him. she obliged immediately, and slowly but surely the rest of the ninja also interchanged pronouns for Zane

some of them have a harder time with it, Jay especially because of his awful memory, but Zane doesn’t mind. she understands, and she finds that she doesn’t have much of a preference anyway

it’s Lloyd who finally asks what Zane’s gender is. Zane is cooking and Lloyd is watching, then asks, “Zane, are you a girl?” and Zane is taken aback, saying something like, “I suppose I’m not… my body is supposed to be male” to which Lloyd points out your gender doesn’t have to match your body. Zane tells him that she’ll have to think about it

that’s when he really starts researching it, and finds all sorts of pronouns that he didn't know existed. he tries to decide on just one, but finds that he can’t. he finds the words “transgender” and “non-binary”, but none of them feel right

eventually they go to PIXAL. PIXAL, who always has an answer for everything, PIXAL, who will help without question. and all she says is, “what do YOU feel like?”

Zane thinks about it. she feels like a girl, she feels like a boy, she feels like neither, she feels like both at the same time. it’s all so fluid and overlapping. it doesn’t quite match her usual yes-or-no idea of things. PIXAL, to her credit, lets him freak out a little before explaining that he doesn’t have to decide anything, in fact, he might never find a label for how he feels. after all, PIXAL never did. the two of them talk about it for a while after, but eventually Zane settles on not knowing, at least for a while

months later, Zane overhears Lloyd talking to one of his old Darnley’s friends, saying, “yeah, Zane uses all pronouns. we just switch off whenever. she’s, like, omnigender”

they research the term with PIXAL, and the flag is very pretty, and Zane feels so excited and so relieved at the same time. they don’t ever tell the other ninja. they don’t really need to, the real challenge had been figuring it out for themself

the other ninja still switch off with pronouns, and once and awhile Lloyd comes to him with new pronouns he thinks Zane will like. Zane accepts all of them

Basic info includes: Casey Abel Tinniel 17 years old (averagely, does change w/lore and how i draw him) He/Him pronouns (feel free to use candy themed neos for him tho, kinda experimenting w/that) Trans-Masc, FTM. Half Oni, Half Human Canonically he has ADHD and BPD. (Feel free to hc him as autistic aswell idm, no other hcs tho pls lmAO, feel free to ask if he does XYZ in my askbox, but do not hc.) British/Japanese. his machines don't need power (batteries, a plug, etc) he can power them himself with his element, but that's draining so he would still add another source of power, and because he already rarely uses his element he can only power small devices.

if he knows how to build smth (mechanical) he can just build it instantly, not needing to touch the materials (idk how to explain it? like he can float electronics but he cant hold them mid-air THEY HAVE to be added to Smth mechanical/technological)

is able to hack certain things without touching them, but mostly just does that to annoy Zane when he's younger (Lloyds command/prank) and rarely does it at all later on, leading him to barely be able to do it at alllll when it's needed (most of the time it isn't because of Jay, Nya and Zane having tech knowledge and jay being master of lighting).

Mostly he can just barely use it at all other than to control small devices/andriods because he's never needed to use it. (Up until Roni, which I'll not down stuff for later, might make it so that he's forced to make a few different Oni soldiers and then have his father mass produce them? not quite a carbon copy, but her life story is fairly similar to mine. i even chose imunlaukr for rather personal reasons-- i'm not sure if when we get the lore for the imulaukr clan that that parallel will remain, but it means something to me and that's what's important i think!

of course her story diverges from my own life at some point, but her childhood/teenage years/some early adulthood all have direct parallels to my experiences.

i'm not sure i'm supposed to infodump about her story here, but a couple of quick facts for you!

4. How did your s/i feel when they first met your f/o(s)? How do they feel about them now?

❄️ eula: at first she wasn't entirely sure what to think of eula. there was a general disdain when they first met, as of course el knew the stories of the lawrence clan (and eula likely took el's introduction as an imunlaukr as a bit of a rude gesture), but after a few run-ins they got to talking more and getting to know one another better. namely, eula tended to show up at good hunter around the same time as el, so they'd chat in line and eventually started eating lunch together. she really treasured that time since she didn't really have many friends either... but over time those feelings blossomed into something other than friendship. they frequently write to one another and send small gifts in the mail. eula doesn't usually go far from mondstadt, so el makes it her goal to find strange and fun souvenirs that suit her wherever she winds up. whenever they're together el can always count on a delicious dinner, and eula can look forward to a listening ear and a warm catgirl to cuddle!

🧪 dottore: enemies to lovers speedrun (actually writing an au for this now!). el didn't trust him (the proper response, probably), but he had become rather fascinated with her for one reason or another-- a chance run-in with one of his segments, most likely. oddly enough, both of them were rather upset with how the other made them feel-- for el, because she was upset about being attracted to... y'know, (gestures to the whole man). he of course was annoyed that she was making him feel something he couldn't quite identify. and so he set on a quest to find the answer, as he usually does. at this time, he's definitely not reformed and still largely acts in his own self-interest, but el at least acts as something of a morality chain. he doesn't want her to cry, so better not do anything too awful. on the other hand, el has become a bit more relaxed with her own ideals, though this wouldn't be a full on corruption arc lmao. ultimately, he cares about her in his own way, even if it took him a while to understand it and for her to accept it. she can't help but feel the same way.

🔥enjou: i haven't thought as much about this one since i have an oc/canon ship with him. this one's mostly just "i am attracted to this man and would like to kiss him"! sorry! i can talk about the oc/canon ship a bit, though. my oc was in the abyss order with him, but after some time she began to start questioning their mission, and after a time made a break with the organization. they remained friends, and had a bit of a saucy friends with benefits situation. for fun. spicy. following the enkanomiya storyline he sets up a base in the library there and things become official between them. she likes having a quiet place to rest and he just likes having her around. neither of them try to convince the other of their causes, it's just... a sense of caring and a bond between them. there's a third option somewhere they're looking for.

🔶zhongli: while el was in liyue harbor for the first time, she caught a glance of the unfairly handsome consultant for wangsheng funeral parlor in the market, where she witnessed the extremely relatable moment of him realizing he didn't have enough money to pay for the things he'd wanted to purchase. while she didn't have enough either, she did offer to buy a couple of things off his list, and so of course he wanted to repay her that money (that he didn't have). she thought it was kinda weird that he was so concerned with paying her back, but given liyue is the land of contracts she assumed he was just particularly devoted to the nation's way of life. i can't decide if she knows his secret or not, though i'm leaning towards whichever is funnier honestly.

ABCs of getting to know my muse(s)

A) Their full name. Jesah’ya Khutyajo of the Moonclaw Tribe was the name he was born with. He no longer uses Khutyajo and is considered an exile of the Moonclaws though (if any are still living other than himself and his children).

Currently, he normally goes by Jesah’ya Silvertail. Silvertail is a moniker given to him by the Beast Tribes from his distinctive, floofy tail.

B) Age. Around 28 years old. He’s not sure of his exact year of birth, but remembers enough ‘big events’ to give an idea that’s within a few years.

C) Height. 5′9″ (69 inches or 175 cm)

D) Pronouns.  He/Him/His.

E) Species (if not human). Miqo’te, specifically Keeper of the Moon.

F) Favourite beverage and/or meal. Warm milk-tea is his favorite drink. His favorite meal is herb-roasted dodo.

G) Hobbies and favourite pastimes. Reading, learning languages, and he’s currently learning to carve.

H) Something they’re exceptionally good at. Tracking things, be it plants, animals, or people.

I) 2 things they really enjoy. Horseback riding (although he’s only gotten to do it occasionally) & reading books, especially those with mythologies and similar stories.

J) 2 things they’re not really fond of. Being up at noon (the sun is painful to his eyes) and very hot weather.

K) 1 of their pet peeves. Needless cruelty, especially toward something smaller or helpless.

L) Their favourite kind of weather. Cold, crisp, and clear. A little bit of snow is ideal.

M) A few interesting facts about them.

Jes is a low-level empath. He can’t do anything drastic like pick-up lines or instantly sense intent, but he’s good at reading feelings and moods. It works on people as well as animal.

He actually has a strong connection to the Aether and particularly the Elementals (potentially the Kami), but has no awareness or training. It results in him getting ‘feelings’ or seeing a brief vision of ‘something’ that might lead him away from danger or to something that needs help.

He has a lovely singing voice, but doesn’t know it since he only sings quietly to his children.

N) Favourite movie or music genre. Jes has a fondness for tribal music. His particular favorite is the flute.

O) What’s their dream profession?  Jes doesn’t really have one? He’s never really thought of being anything but a hunter. If he thought about it, he’d probably enjoy something that let him be home and rest a bit more though.

P) Is there something or someone they cannot stand? Why?   Jes has a strong dislike of Wood Wailers. He won’t (quite) attack on sight, but he doesn’t trust them, doesn’t want to be around them, and is far more openly aggressive toward them than most people. Wood Wailers were responsible for the death of many of his clan and have nearly killed him more than once. Their brutal treatment of anyone not conforming to what Gridania decides as well as their harsh treatment toward those not of the ‘proper’ race/species, such as Duskwights has made Jes despise them in general. His current sole exception is the retired Wood Wailer Buscarron, who is very different from the others in Jes’s opinion.

Q) Did they do something extremely dangerous at some point in their life? Honestly, Jes does dangerous things pretty much most of his life. He bounty-hunts large and dangerous animals, normally solo. He willingly makes contact with Beast Tribes to discover if they’re potentially friendly or Tempered in the effort to help them. He does a lot of dangerous stuff without even thinking about it.

R) Is there something they wish they could do/achieve but can’t?  Jes would love to somehow give the Beast Tribes the equality they deserve. He hates the fact that they are treated like animals or vermin simply because they’re not classed as ‘Spoken’. They are just as intelligent, complex, and aware as any Spoken he’s ever met and he finds it disgusting so many cities do not treat them as such.

S)  Is there something in their life they regret?  Sometimes, Jes regrets having children. Not because of the children themselves. He adores his kids and would do anything for them. They’re the most precious things in his life. He regrets that he brought them into a situation where they suffered when they were younger and he worries he will do a poor job of giving them what they need to be safe and happy. So less he regrets the children and more regrets that he had them without more awareness to what he was bringing them into.

T)  Do they have any siblings? Family? Loved ones?    Jes technically has seven brothers, but only two are potentially still alive and he has never met them. He has no older family still alive to his knowledge, but he has his five young children. The three Miqo’te who he lives with and provide for that help him raise his children are family to him. Their names are Aurhi, Hauh’ti and Nya. For loved ones who aren’t necessarily blood or ‘family’ at the moment, he’s very fond of Helios and Latika’a. ( @redgentleman-ffxiv & @latikaa-renaz for mention)

U)  Are they a morning or night person? Definitely a night person. Jes can function during the day, but it’s harder on him. His ‘normal’ hours are up at about two pm, working/hunting/etc. during the evening and night, and going to bed around nine or ten am.

V) Do they have a pet? What kind? If not, what kind of pet would they want? He doesn’t currently have any animal he would consider a ‘pet’. He has three  chocobos for his work as a courier and transporter for the Sirens, or his work hunting. There is Ehva, whose older and semi-retired but his first chocobo. The other two are Runje, a fast but flightly bird he normally uses when he wants to get there quickly, and then Bosa, who is huge and not very fast, but enormously strong and stoic that he uses for pulling carts or hunting particuarly dangerous prey. While he is fond of them and treats them very well, he wouldn’t call them ‘pets’.

W) How would they describe themselves in 5 or less words?  Jes stared for nearly a minute before clearing his throat. “Um...Pale Confused Miqo’te?”

X) Do they have a goal in life? What is it?  Jes’s current goal in life is to find a way to make better money and find a larger, safer place to raise his children. He is often not home and very overworked trying to provide for three adults, five young children, and himself being the only one who currently has steady work and income.

Y) Is there anything in their life that’s stopping them from succeeding? Himself. Jes doesn’t tend to ask for help. He’s also someone who thinks this is his ‘place’ and life and doesn’t really know what to do to improve it, even when he wants to. He just toils figuring this is ‘the best he can hope for’, which really hurts him in the long run. If he was more willing to talk to people about his problems and ask for some guidance on how to improve it, he’d probably be in a better place.

Z) Do they have an item that means a lot to them?  He has a necklace of carved bone arrowheads he wears. It was a gift from his great-aunt Cerah, one of the few in the tribe that seemed to want him to survive and be strong. She taught him more than more than most and when he left the tribe at sixteen, she gave it to him to help keep him safe. The arrowheads are carved with symbols to Oschon, the Elementals, and Menphina and often worn by hunters of his tribe for luck and protection.

uhhhh coming out to lance re being ace was more like shouting excitedly because i finally found the word/experience explanations that made sense and realizing that FINALLY. A WORD. TO GET EVERYONE OFF MY BACK ABOUT DATING AND NOT WANTING SEX. BLESS. it basically just involved me excitedly yelling across the room to him. it was cute, he says. 

realizing being arospec was....... a lot more difficult bc i worried a lot about him thinking that it meant that i didn’t love him, bc i do, and that maybe it proved that i was more selfish or something, and etc etc, but he could tell that something was eating me up lately so we finally sat down and had a talk and he... took it very well? he wasn’t hurt by it because i still showed him love and compassion and support and pointed out that my feelings towards him hadn’t suddenly changed or been any different than they were before all of this. that it didn’t change anything about how i felt, how much i loved and cared for him. [and he gently nudged me about if i had thought about gray or demi labels and whatnot and i eventually found/looked into more labels and hoo boy my sub labels are too much please help i do not like having like 4-5 terms and conditions] i still felt bad for awhile that i couldn’t love him in the same way that he did, but he did his best to show me that our love was still the same, if not it being seen in a different light now, and that he wasn’t going to leave me or get angry with me because of it. it was a really hard first few months for me bc of intense guilt about it but he still stood by me and eventually it started to go away.

the enby stuff was a recent thing as of a year or two ago and i basically was just like “hey babe, i think i’m enby? or agender? i’m not sure which rn but enby sounds cuter and has the better flag colors so i’m gonna try out that for awhile” and he was just like, “okay. let me know if you change pronouns or anything” “ ‘kay “

4. How did you celebrate pride together?

i go as part of sbux’s group and my husband usually has to work but this year (and 2018? or the year before. Whenever the mass shooting happened) he went with me to make sure I stayed safe. if it happens this year he says he’ll go with me again, tho he’s been trying to suggest that I skip out on it this year if it happens. I told him I’ll play it by ear. 

There aren’t a lot of us aros and aces at pride. Someone’s gotta represent us and that’s usually me.

not a lot! I recently got some more stuff this year. Ummm I have an ACE hat with the flag colors on the word ‘ace’ and that’s been cool. I’ve forgotten to wear it for the last few years but it also got lost a coupla times the last few years ;>> I recently got a cute agender and ace pin at the last con I went to before all covid happened! and I picked up two queer pins from hot topic, i thought? maybe it was just the one, which is “Let’s get one thing straight: I’m not”. I feel like there might be something else I’m forgetting about between but I recently gave in and bought the dragon wing collar pin here and the aro one here. ;>_> gee i wonder why. 

Oh! if tarot decks count I have the Numinous Tarot! and I backed their oracle deck based off their huge comic. and i think there might be one more deck but that’s honestly the only one that comes to mind that is EXCLUSIVELY queer by design and not just “the lovers card is queer and that’s all the rep you get in the deck” [btw the lovers in numinous was instantly my fave/i fell in love with/was BASICALLY WHY I BOUGHT THE DECK, because it was definitely aroace inclusive and i even asked the creator about it and they said it was an influence!] 

I was gonna make myself some beaded keychains of the flags but that fell through as did my energy levels. 

OH THE FLAGS. I FORGOT THAT I BOUGHT ACE AND ARO FLAGS OFF AMAZON FOR PRIDE LAST YEAR. i was gonna get an enby one but they weren’t as cheap :T plus i can only fit two flags around me as a cape. which is one more than others.

Wendy, ever since you’ve mentioned it, I’ve been super curious about the relationship between Meowth and the songs he sings on Pokéani! Do you think you could explain it in a little more detail?

I LOVE THIS QUESTION!!!!!!

so the songs are like. the canonicity of them could easily be debated as they never actually feature in the show itself, but instead as inserts and endings. he has quite a few but i’m mostly focused in on two, called meowth’s song, and meowth’s ballad. he’s not great at names.

meowth’s song is the first time he ever sings in canon, its the second pokeani ending from way back in os and it’s used as an insert in his backstory episode (which means it got partially dubbed! 4kids actually wrote lyrics to it and maddie sang them, though they’re not at all a correct translation)

the video above is just the TV version--there’s a full version as well. meowth uses his music almost entirely as a means of philosophizing, a facet of his character that’s often forgotten (outside of that profound comment he makes to his clone in the dub of movie 1) but incredibly consistent. two of his strongest personality traits are empathy and wisdom.

meowth’s song is, at its core, about the conflicting feelings of being uniquely you. it’s about how pride flirts with loneliness. the lyrics more or less weave a story about how wonderful he is to be a talking pokemon, and how lonely he is to be a talking pokemon. he contemplates, singing all alone, if there is anyone out there like him, or if he’ll just be alone in his existence forever.

the way he conveys this through his lyrics is positively beautiful. they’re incredibly simple. they sound exactly like a song that a common housecat would write if it had the mind to.

the first verse of meowth’s song is him singing to his instincts. we know because we’re watching the show that he’s probably hungry, but he’s not going to eat the bugs even though he can hear them, because that’s what a meowth does, and he’s a human being. he sings about the moon and how transfixed he is by its roundness, because meowth are obsessed with shiny and round objects and have a tendency to hoard them. 

the second verse follows

again, the lyrics are simple, but the second verse focuses on the isolation inherent in being as special as he is and accomplishing what he has. he says “I know what the universe tells me I was meant to be, because there’s an itch in my paws to get down on all fours and chase my dinner through the grass. But who I am wants to sing this song, not with my own name but with everything but, and I fear that burden’s only mine to bear.”

(meowth also uses the pronoun “oira” when he sings--usually he uses “nya” as a custom one)

so, that was 22 years ago. let’s fast forward to 2016.

meowth’s ballad was one of the last ending songs of the xy anime. it features meowth in the same position he once was, singing a tune under a full moon. this time he isn’t alone, though--the music begins to pick up, his friends come to sit down beside him, and he sings with a very, very different cadence.

his lyrics are as they’ve always been--precise, simple, scattered, fragmented. he doesn’t waste words. 

this song is about how it no longer matters if he never ever meets someone like him. it no longer matters if he meets an alleycat who learned to wax poetic in the moonlight the same as him. this song is about how everyone has these things in common--the same earth, the same air, the same sky. that he doesn’t need a mirror for the people around him to nurture him, to understand him, to accept him. he accepts himself, and he is not alone, and he is simply a part of something much, much bigger--with more in common with everyone around him than he ever knew to see before.

the loneliness he knew at birth, the loneliness he clung to for so long in the hopes that maybe the universe would take pity on him and send good things his way--he was so attached to it, he didn’t realize that the universe did so long ago. it might not have been exactly what he was expecting, but it’s his now, and its everything he could’ve ever dreamed of. 

meowth’s first song is a lament about loneliness, and meowth’s most recent song is a celebration about unity.

Headcanons about Regulus Arcturus Black that I will defend until my dying day
