ok i might get blocked by a couple ppl for saying this but the Jackson’s Diary fandom is seriously making me wanna become a proshipper out of spite (read the post before blocking me or whatever please)

like idk if u guys have checked the fandom tag on ao3 recently but theres been a bit of drama surrounding the fact that someone posted a smut-fic of Exer (an 18yo) and David (an almost 18yo, who was aged up A FEW MONTHS for the fic) and they were harassed into taking it down and making a fucking apology post ON AO3, THE PROBLEMATIC FANWORKS WEBSITE.

and this fic was tagged 100% correctly like it was very explicitly tagged as smut n stuff yet there were still a bunch of comments being like “uhm what did i just read 🤨” and when i made a comment defending the authors right to yk, not be harassed for making not even rlly problematic content someone who clearly would suffer withdrawal symptoms if they turned twitter off for too long started arguing with me abt how “erm ackhtually we should be allowed to comment harassment under ppls harmless and explicitly tagged fics cause theres no smut in this fandom and it shocked us” and u could just rlly tell they felt they were more righteous than God in their opinions and yeah so cut to tonight when i’m scrolling through the tag and i see a post titled “i’m so sorry” in which the author made a post basically being like “i’m so sorry for posting that ik it was disgusting it has been permanently deleted” which in the comments a few ppl were telling them that what happened sucked n stuff (myself included // judging by their reply they only did this to stop the harassment which yk, completely fair) and i went back to scrolling since i wanted an actual fic not fandom drama but like 2 posts down there was another post titled “please stop” or smthn like that where someone else made a post basically being like “guyssss can we please not write smut of these characters this fandom is so wholesome i dont wanna ruin it 🥺 anyways sorry this isnt a fic this just needed to be said lol” and like dude, my guy, WHAT THE FUCK?!

this is AO3, this is a fanwork archive that as far as i know was created (at least partially) due to the fact that ppl kept getting their “problematic” works taken down from other sites and the creators wanted to yk archive all fanworks. this is NOT a social media site where u can make callout posts abt how what someone else posted disturbed ur pure wholesome chaste scrolling by daring to uploaded something with *gasp* consensual sex between 2 consenting adults?! (or canonically 1 consenting adult and 1 consenting gonna-be-an-adult-in-a-few-months-but-isnt-much-younger-than-the-first-guy but u get the idea)

like guys, ao3 is not twitter. it is not tiktok, it is not tumblr, its not youtube, its not even wattpad. it is not a social media platform, it is a fanwork archive, specifically one that lets u post whatever kinda content u want (yes, even smthn depicting 2 consenting adult/almost adult participates that are in no way related having sex, ik its crazy what they allow online these days).

and look honestly the callout post wouldn’tve annoyed me this much if it was posted on yk an actual social media. like if it was posted on twitter or tiktok or on youtube as a video essay or even on here, like sure if i saw it id be annoyed that this fandom cant handle the tiniest bit of non-puritanicalism and fuck, maybe if it was on here id even drag myself into a pointless days-long argument that causes me suicidal levels of stress but on archive of our fucking own itself?! for the millionth time, IT IS NOT A SOCIAL MEDIA! u dont make posts like that that u want the rest of the fandom to read or whatever on there because its not that kinda website!

so the combination of those two things is why he did the flirting thing instead of just asking. in most other situations he would have asked, but he just kept Not Thinking Of It in those other situations. it was essentially bad luck lol.

more clarification about how periods impact shapeshifting powers!! bc i thought abt it more after. so:

shapeshifters cannot stop their period once it has started. they don’t entirely lose their shapeshifting powers, but they do lose some of them. basically, they’re stuck with the same, like, “base” body until the period is over. so they can’t change the height of the body, or the fact that it’s having a period, or its bone structure, or things like its digestive or nervous systems, or things like that—anything the body needs to maintain to run. they can change things like hair, eye color, fat and muscle distribution (to some degree), and so on—anything that’s not integral to the body running. shapeshifting those things is also harder than it would usually be, it takes more concentration and energy. and then once the period is over their powers go back to normal.

for how shapeshifting generally works: the shapeshifter essentially just. imagines the thing they want to shapeshift into. and then they turn into it. they do have to like, make it happen after they imagine the shape they want? like. their brain is making a command for their body to do the thing. kind of like,, intentionally blinking. it feels like that. and then the actual shapeshift happens very fast, like maybe 1-2 seconds for the whole thing. it’s usually pretty easy and doesn’t take much energy, the main exception being if they are shifting to have non-human features (like gills wings etc) or appearances (like making themself be, like, stretched-out-mike-teavee-from-charlie-and-the-chocolate-factory shape). non-human shapeshifts like those do take some extra energy to do, kind of like pushing through a barrier, and the time it takes increases to like 3-5 seconds. also healing by regenerating cells takes more energy and time too. but aside from those cases, and the period case i talked abt in the last paragraph, shapeshifting does not take a noticeable amount of energy. again like blinking. also, shapeshifters can unintentionally shapeshift in their sleep, specifically while they are dreaming. that’s more common for some and less common for others, almost like how sleepwalking is a thing for some people and not for others.

ALSO janus stabbing things is especially funny bc. it doesn’t go with their powers. and it gives them 0 advantage over their nemesis. so there’s literally no reason for them to do it, they just like stabbing things. like, viper (his nemesis) has laser powers. stabbing helps, like, 0% with fighting lasers. janus has like some mirror weapon tool things for when they actually fight viper. and viper now wears protective armor built into her suit’s stomach and chest, and has bracers on her arms. to protect from janus’s illogical stabbing habits. it’s rlly funny.

also, unrelated, but since im talking about viper: she’s a lesbian, and janus is only into men, which both of them are very happy about, because (although janus’s genderfluidity sometimes does make this a tiiiiny bit wobbly, that’s not mostly a problem) it allows them to have all the inherent gay tension of a super nemesis relationship without ever having to worry about actual attraction or feelings getting involved. they’ve literally had whole conversations about this while fighting, and they actually are pretty friendly with each other despite being nemeses. they platonically flirt while trying really hard to beat each other up. they Have given each other relationship advice while fighting before. they have literally so much fun. i love them. im going to see if i can find an excuse to write one of their fights sometimes. it’ll be delightful.

1. i started high school! albeit, a bit shakily and i’ve definitely been more stressed out these past months than all my other years of school combined but still!! it’s one more step into the future and i’m growing up! that’s basically all i have to say for this topic lmao it’s kind of a double edged sword.

2. i met a lot of people here!!! until the last year, i wasn’t really putting myself out there a lot (i mean, i still don’t but let’s igNORE that) but once i did start trying to talk to people i made a lot of great friends! these friends really just brightened up my 2017, without them it probably would’ve been hard to get through 2017, so thank you <3 3. it really sucks that i can only think of a few things but let me see. last year, i had two teachers that completely changed me as a person and made me reflect on things a lot harder than i previously would have. they were both incredibly supportive and helped me out tons! i was put into a variety of leadership roles throughout the school so my last year in middle school was definitely made memorable as i was the head of many clubs and got to be known around the school. 

4. i got my first drawing tablet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! alkjdshflkjasdfk i was so happy because i’d been wanting one forever and i’m absolutely in love with it!!!!

5. i had an amazing graduation night :(( usually, knowing my school, it would’ve been terrible. but for my year, they booked an actual hall and made reservations for dinner and it was just amazing. i got to recieve awards in front of the people i love the most, i ate decent food that didn’t taste like plastic and i danced all night with my friends who i really really really love (and some of which i miss very much). it was just a great night overall and i felt really full, you know? it might not make sense but i felt really amazing :((

6. i went to my friends birthday party (where many crazy things happened). this probably doesn’t seem like an achievement but i usually chicken out of events like that last second and make up excuses because of how anxious i get alkjdsf. so i decided to actually go this one time and it was really fun!

7. oH I GOT INTO BTS WOWOOWWO it was around the beginning of September last year when i got into this fandom and uhM best thing that’s ever happened to me tbh

8. i made an entire yearbook from nothing in the two last weeks of school for the graduating classes. lisTEN the yb committee didn’t do any preparation beforehand and we basically weren’t going to have a yearbook but i stepped up with a few of my friends and in the last 2 weeks of school, we all took pictures and actively tried getting more from teachers, begged the principal for the principal’s address (which he gave in like 2 days before we had to submit it to get printed >:(((( ) and designed all the pages/put in all the text. it was only a group of 4/5 ppl so it was tough but we did it!!! one of my friends and i were basically in charge so we put in a lot of work and we were working on it the day before grad until 6 at school so yh we were rlly hard, there were tears shed and just so much joy after everything was over omfg. i needed to rant abt that wtf. lksadf anyways yh im proud!!

9. umm i did secret santa with a close group of friends (although i wasn’t able to actually attend since i had the stomach flu) but idk it was rlly meaningful to me and i just love them all a lot :((

10. i stayed to see 2018! im alive, and mostly happy, and i’ve got a lot ahead of me so i’m glad! i’m glad that i worked my ass off in 2017 to get to a good highschool in a great program full of overachievers alksdjf idk i didn’t really like 2017, so ig it’s a good thing that i made it through the year!
