this is another one of those questions that really boils down to the fandom debate: "what does it mean to be 'mentally frozen?'"

the Illustrated Guide says:

One facet of the absence of aging is that vampires do not develop emotionally or mentally past the age at which they are transformed. A transformed child would remain childlike forever, unable to mature in any aspect.

it also says:

Once they fall in love, that feeling never fades.

to me, this implies that external forces/bonds can change a vampire but internal processes cannot. i subscribe to the idea that even if a vampire can't mature in the biological sense, their experiences still provide them with a way to mature

for example, though he retains the emotional immaturity of a 17-year-old, we see Edward learn he has a soul through his connection with Bella. if you subscribe to the theory that vampires through their bonds & experiences can change, you might think Edward will, from this point on, believe he has a soul. in that way, vampires can grow & develop, even if they can't really develop.

how does this apply to Bella?

first off, girl has a lot of fuckin baggage. not only did she spend the last few weeks of her human life (& the first few months of her vamp life) fighting for her daughter's life, but she never overcame her childhood trauma of having to care for everyone in her life. the hill Bella needs to climb to overcome all this is steeper than Sisyphus'. baseline, she will always consider Ravioli as a child who must constantly be protected from a world that wants to kill her. (though she may have good reason considering Rotolo's existence may have kicked off a cold war with the Volturi lol whoops.) to me, that is less a result of the conditions of her change & more a result of how Bella emotionally developed as a person.

if you subscribe to the theory that a vampire's relationships can change them, her bond with Rigatoni may evolve as her daughter does. that relationship might be the only way Bella can experience permanent internal growth. in the theory stated above, we might see Bella getting past her "my unborn child needs me" mentality, though i could see her having a more difficult time ever getting over her parentification.

her ability to get over this trauma will also depend on what the future holds for the Cullens. i.e., if the Volturi return to whoop some vegetarian ass, Bella doesn't really have the mental/emotional space to give up her protective caretaker trait.

moving on. some in the fandom believe that mentally frozen means mentally frozen. sure, they can fall in love, but all that means is they're in love, not that they learn anything from being in love. going back to the Edward example, we may have seen Edward "learn" he has a soul, but post-BD we would see him return to his depressive, "soulless" state.

applied to Bella: she will never overcome her parentification regardless of how Ragù develops. lil baby will always need protection from others, will always be a lil baby, will always be in mortal danger. Bella is a fucking eternal helicopter parent. yikes, girl

no but like here's the thing draculaura came out to lagoona, lagoona gushed about star-crossed lovers between a with and a monster, lagoona and draculaura did this while having a specific spot they always hide

draculaura id'd with lagoona's story and was told she would find a light on your horoscare while lagoona was going to find her true love via music (draculaura wrote a song for her friends prior)

this happens so often the other teens are sure, absolutely certain, that Lagoona WOULD get Drac to hide in the pipes anyway. Again.

draculaura tells lagoona she's a witch right after lagoona admits she's being blackmailed by toralai, and WHILE the blackmailing was still going on

draculaura looked at this face-

lagoona didn't even ask her about it

drac said "i know exactly how you feel", lagoona just Looks At Her Like That and drac decided, yep, i actually feel ready to tell my dangerous secret right here right now to this person specifically

she trusted lagoona not to use this against her, despite the blackmail

or maybe she felt it was worth the risk??? getting to open up and connect with someone in a similar situation is worth the danger of it blowing up in her face?

and it WAS worth the risk, bc lagoona was 100% excited about drac's magic, totally delighted, called it incredible, asked if she could watch more

(love how ppl are worried about witch stuff until they learn that DRACULAURA'S the one doing it)

(feels real to me. if you know and trust a person, and then it turns out they're doing this thing, a thing you've got no personal experience with and only know you're supposed to hate bc someone told you so, makes sense you'd have more faith in the person you know and give them a free pas at it)

lagoona's SO into it she even asks to see more magic

which we know. we know drac is staved for getting to show her witch side. it's part of her she that makes her feel happy and good and like herself, not being able to open with it is, isolation

isolation for a vampire that gets her vamp energy via positive attention from others. ouch

so here's lagoona, lagoona who is being blackmailed to work against her, lagoona who is all bouncy and twirlly about drac's magic, lagoona with her own secret side she's not ready to share yet

and drac let's lagoona WATCH HER make the single-use, anti-secret-telling potion that she plans to use on toralai

toralai, the one who is still blackmailing lagoona

lagoona, who's secret (that the fiercest monster in school still cuddles with her childhood fish squishy) while very personal and potentially embarrassing, is NOT actually might-get-expelled-or-banished levels of dangerous if it gets revealed

unlike drac's

(first time watching this i got nervous for a moment bc in several other shows i've seen, a set up like this would mean lagoona gets pressured into revealing the potion to toralai too and blah blah blah, angst betrayal misunderstanding eventual forgives etc. Buuuut in monster high....)

the risks involved are different, but Draculaura knows what having the secret FEELS like

the secret's not the important part for her and lagoona, losing control over WHEN it gets told is the painful scary part!

So when lagoona panics thinking the potion won't be able to protect draculaura, when she tries stopping toralai, when toralai gets pissed and is about to make good on the blackmail against lagoona-

drac uses the one safe use of the potion, to protect lagoon's secret instead

not hers

she chooses to be outed to the whole school so lagoona won't be

LAGOONA LEGIT TELLS HER AFTERWARDS

"Oh thank you, thank you! You're like a princess that saved the damsel in distress!"

and when toralai tells the school and runs to drac/frankie/clawdeen's dorm to proove all the witchery,

(side note i love that when using the potion twice comes up dracs like No I'm Not Willing To Risk Permanently Hurting Someone Just To Keep My Secret Safe- this is why everyone trusts her to be a witch ok, they know she WOULD NEVER use it that way)

when drac is panicking, bracing herself for impact- LAGOONA BREAKS HER OWN RECORD SWIMING THROUGH THE PIPES TO GET THEIR FIRST AND HIDE ALL THE MAGIC STUFF

my heart! i can't take it!!!

she puts it all in her own room, in the tank, in plain view of anyone who might be passing by and stick their head in like drac did earlier and get the wrong idea about who's doing magic

but she can't stand by and let the witch secret get pulled out and proved true like this. she knows what the secret feels like too!

these two take such risks to protect each other's chance to choose im crying ok

Draculaura: "Lagoona- I, am eternally grateful!"

Frankie: "Eternally? And you're immortal! Oh zap, that's a looot of grateful."

Lagoona: "I'm the one who's grateful! Thanks for keeping my secret safe."

IM CRYING, OKAY!?!??

like to hell with shipping! You don't come out of sharing something like this without a forging a bond that's special and deep and just for the two of you!

the writers didn't pass over that. they didn't forget it

i could kiss them for it

(remember when lagoona made a script based on her own lonely childhood then threw it out and replaced it with one where she gets friends but is worried about chomping them and drac vibed so hard with her character she begged to play lead role)

(drac the vampire who went vegan and doesn't bite or drink blood even though she COULD and still has the instinct to as seen in Creature Clash hey hey the parallels are getting to me)

(let lagoona have her freshwater boyfriend and daydream about being rescued by princesses her hair is the dang PAN PRIDE FLAG)

in conclusion

if lagoona wants to partner up for hide and shriek again and hide in the horrible wet water pipes again, we know drac's gonna end up going along with it.

Heya Barb, I've got a quick q about everyone's favorite topic, vampire biologyyyyy

Would a trans vamp still have to take HRT? What about other medications, can they just pop a [pill of choice] and wash it down with a nice cup of blood?

This is a tricky one. I think taking HRT would work. After all, vampires are affected by drugs and/or alcohol in the blood they drink. So, it makes sense for HRT to work too? Maybe?

Or maybe there would be only immediate effects, but nothing lasting.

If the vampire were already presenting the way they wanted to prior to death (eg, they were a trans man who had been on T for a while when they were alive) then they won't need to continue to take T. Their body retains the look they had when they died.

I think postmoterm surgical options would be more popular. After all, vampires don't feel pain really, they heal fast, and they don't scar. Why not shove some fake boobs up under your skin to see how they look? You can take them out later if you change your mind. Same goes for cutting things off.

So, in some ways it would be much easier to be a trans vampire.

Telling Sam How You Both Got Married (Trans! Dean Winchester X F!Reader)

A/N: Hello everyone! This is the first small idea I had about this project that I think about 24/7 anymore. I want to start out with just some small ideas about Trans!Dean and his wife. I do hope to make this apart of a greater story that can be read separate or together. Consider this part one. This is my first time writing fiction in almost three years so I have zero idea what I am doing anymore.

Reader's POV

Back seat of the Impala

All I could hear was the soft sounds of talking as I steered awake from my sleep. The car wasn't moving so Dean and I must have made it to Stanford. As my eyes adjusted to the dark I could see Dean talking to a tall man while the trunk was open. It must be his brother Sam. "I can't do this alone." "Yes, you can." I scuff at their conversation, don't really think your alone in this Dean. While John and I may have our differences, he was still Dean's father. I roll onto my right shoulder in hopes of going back asleep. Dean's vision becomes focused on me. "What? You got some chick shacked up in the backseat you forgot about." "No Sam, that's my wife."

Sam's POV

"So, let me get this straight. You both are married?" We were on our way to Jericho to figure out what had been killing men on a highway. Ever since we left Stanford I was dumb founded how my brother had found a wife in the short time I had been away. "Yeah, well. This kind of thing just happens Sammy." Dean looked over at me, "We met on a hunt and the rest is history." "What does dad think about this? Does he even know?" I looked behind me at (Y/N), my new found sister in law. She laughed at me, "He knows and does not approve of me. He says I distract him from the mission. " She moves to put her arms over Dean's shoulders as he drives. "But. that didn't stop us from getting hitched in Vegas." I looked at both of them in disbelief, "Vegas? Are you guys serious? How did you even get the license? I mean, Dean isn't even..." I trailed off, not wanting to say it but also wanting answers. "All you need is an ID that looks real, Sammy. Those people will believe it if I want them too." Dean smiled over at me. "Isn't that right, baby?" His hand went from the steering wheel to (Y/N)'s arm that was over his shoulder. "Yeah, we went down there to take out a vamp nest. We thought we could stick around for a little bit and next thing I know this one right here was sweettalking me into it. We even had the cheesy Elvis impersonator officiate us." I laughed, "Y'all really just went for it? That's great." "Yeah Sammy but Dad was madder than I had ever seen him before when we got back!" (Y/N) looked over at me, "That's only because we stayed an extra week and ignored his calls. When we finally met back up in Oklahoma I don't think John stopped lecturing Dean for two days."

🕷️ - What is their biggest fear? Do they have any irrational, mundane fears? - Getting lost. They'll play and explore all they want, but as soon as they realize they don't know where the orphanage is or where they are, they're petrified. Could that be considered "mundane"????

One wolf's trash is another vamp's treasure:

Both tank and Sweetheart use they/them pronouns but bright eyes uses he/him and is ftm trans (this is the same in all my bright eyes fics). This also serves as another prequel to the upcoming "ok just one more punk progeny won't hurt" fic I'll be writing.

"Is that the last box?"

"Yeah I think so...oh wait! There's an entire shelf of DVDs in the other room. Could you box that up for me please?"

"Yeah no problem" Sweetheart then left the room.

It was weird for Tank to see all this old stuff again but what was really weird was that it was all still intact. I guess it's not hard to believe that he would keep all of this stuff, they thought, f*king creep...

They thought it would be difficult for them to come back here and take all their stuff they left behind now that Quinn is gone but it was surprisingly fun and nostalgic to see all of it again. They didn't associate any of it with bad memories, with the exception of a couple cloths that they would frequently wear when being fed on.

when they looked through their old CDs, comics and films they didn't see Quinn...they just saw...them.

Sweetheart being there certainly helped a lot, whenever they recognised a CD or jacket they liked that reminded them of Quinn, Sweetheart would be there to ask about it and tell them about how cool it looked or sounded, they were awesome for that.

"Wow this is a LOT of 'buffy the vampire slayer'" Sweetheart came back into the room with the box of DVDs they asked them to get.

"Yeah it was one of my favourite series for a long time..."

A memory of them watching it with Quinn, talking about how much Quinn reminded them of Spike, flashed through their head but it vanished as soon as Sweetheart spoke.

"My favourite was always willow, hey here's an idea! Why don't you keep these and watch it with Sam? I'm sure he'd enjoy it~"

The image of Quinn and them curdled up together watching buffy, covered in dried blood, was replaced with the image of Sam nitpicking at the vampiric representation and a warm, soft smile came across their face.

"Hmm yeah...to be honest I thought I'd just pack all this up and then burn it, burn this whole place but, seeing it again, going through it all with you, it's been nice...would be a shame if it all went to waste"

"So what are you gonna do?"

Tanker smiled

"I think I know somone who needs this stuff more than I do".

They both went outside of the garage, turned into the two-room-house, with all Tanker's old stuff. Tank pulled out their phone.

Tank:

"Hey you want a bunch of old DVDs, CDs clothes and comic that I don't want anymore?"

Bright eyes:

"He'll yeah I do"

Tank:

"Awsome I'll text you the address."

"Meet me here ********"

After 30 minutes or so of waiting, Bright arrived. "I got your text"

Tank smiled at the sight of him.

"Clearly" they joked. It had been some time since the 2 of them hung out together.

They started hanging out almost directly after Sam introduced them. They got along pretty well and had a lot in common also, Tank could tell that he needed it, somone to talk to about their situation that wasn't biased or would judge him.

Obviously Tank didn't hold the way Sam treated bright against him but Tank would listen to him talk about how Sam acts towards him and they wouldn't defend him. Because that's what Bright needed.

Tank had tried to give Sam advice on how to "deal with" Bright's behaviour but they were scared to give advice where it wasn't wanted. So as a result Tank would pick Bright up every now and then from Sam's, or the Solaire household depending on the day, they'd hang out, buy sh*t and talk.

"Soooo what's all this?" Bright gestured to the surrounding boxes of DVDs, movies, clothes and comics.

"This is a bunch of stuff I used to own while I was with Quinn, I haven't been here since I left for Washington, I was gonna come back here and get my stuff back buy there was always the chance he'd be there and my life was not worth the 'tank girl' comics"

Bright chuckled

"But now that that isn't an issue I had Sweetheart help me get it all out"

Bright nodded in understanding "sooo why are you giving it to me? Seems like this stuff means a lot to you"

Tanker sighed

"Well...you're right, this stuff does mean a lot to me but...I was in a bad place when I had all this stuff, it's not that they hold any bed memories, at least none that bother me too much, but I've outgrown it all and I used all this stuff, comics, films, music as a distraction from my situation and I don't need that anymore. Besides I've told you before that you kinda remind me of a younger me right?"

Bright scoffed

"Once or twice"

"Well I figured you'd like to have it...but if you don't want it-"

Bright interrupted

"No no no i-i didn't say that"

Tanker smiled

"Well, you wanna go through it with me?"

Bright nodded.

After a fair amount of time looking through the boxes, listening to the CDs and trying on clothes, Bright had pretty much finished going through all their stuff and was gonna start packing the stuff back up and bring it back to the house of sloaire.

They had been staying there a lot lately and had his own room so he thought this was a good a time as ever to start decorating. But before that, he noticed a red-leather jacket with a spiked collar that ended just under the waist.

"Hey, what's this one's story?" Bright called over to Tanker

Tank looked and saw bright holding the jacket Quinn had got them at the start of there....arrangement.

Up until that point they had worn the jacket that Gabe got them when they were pretty much still a kid but after Quinn got them this jacket they proceeded to wear it more than any other item of clothing, he got mad otherwise, if they were to ever wear a different jacket in front of him.

He'd say something along the lines of "what's wrong with the one I got you?" And wouldn't let it go for the rest of the night. So as a result, they'd wear it around him everytime they saw him and eventually Infront of everyone else...

"That's...... just a grimy old jacket" Tanker thought about just how many times they've spilled blood on that jacket.

"If you want that you might have to wash it a couple times before you put it on"

As Tank said this, Bright began putting on the jacket but stopped after realising the implications of what they were telling him.

Tank asked of bright wanted their help bringing all the boxes into the house but bright said "they got it".

"You OK?" Asked Sweetheart

"Yeah, I'm good. I'm gonna go see sam"

They really ment it too....

For the first time in months....

They were ok

✧ A huge part of fandom for me is reading other people's interpretations of characters. I think discussion surrounding characters is fun, and I enjoy seeing the various conclusions people come to about how a character is. It's just fun to consider a character through multiple angles.

✧ I can't figure out tone often with the use of anon, and in general I don't do well with 'overfamiliar rudeness' with people I do not know. So please no playfully rude messages on anon...

anyway for example with my self insert(ish) mc: trans gay little vampire man who turns into a sgrunkly little bat and hangs from his chandelier in protest that Nicky had to go to a daytime meeting for once? Nicky comes out of the kitchen with a lil platter of fruits to lure him down for a cuddle by the fire place while sweetly apologizing bc god forbid he do his job and not suffer the wrath of a little clingy dustball squeaking at him.

OR NICKY TUCKING LITTLE BAT MC IN HIS COAT DURING THE DAY WHILE HE DOES HIS ROUNDS CHECKING ON HIS BUSINESSES?! he just reaches into his coat every now and then to give his love a little scritch on the head 😭 and everyone around him gets nervous that he's hiding something super valuable or dangerous that he doesnt wanna lose (which is true, but not in the way they think)

see also: Nicky getting into some trouble during the night and being all chill ab it and saying to the guys "oh im not the one you gotta be afraid of" and the guys laughing until guard dog Mc appears, absolutely pissed, hungry, and ready to hunt their fill for the night.

and mc just randomly one day being like "you realize im a good 200 years older than you, right." after Nicky says something that implies Mc is younger and Nicky immediately lights up and just begins asking baseball history questions, not even phased by Mc saying that. which is much to Mc's dread.

Hi! Your Bi MC fic was so beautiful!!! May I request a fanfic of an AFAB mc coming out as a transgender man? Like the mc gathers all the residents into one room and tries to explain stuff like preferred names and pronouns to everyone, not everyone understands it but they can tell how important this is to MC so they are supportive of him and ask him lots of questions to better understand him

You stand in the mirror, drawing in a deep breath. Your fingers run down the front of your vest, the soft navy blue wool, the shiny gold buttons. You reach down, double-checking the gold cufflinks at the end of your smart, stiffly-starched white shirt. From the top of your newly-shorn hair to the tips of your shiny black dress shoes, you look in the mirror and see yourself the way you have always imagined. The you that was hidden, small and afraid in the corners of your heart, until you passed through a doorway across time and proved yourself capable of a bravery you did not know you possessed. A mansion full of genius vampires didn’t phase you and it was then you realized it was time to face the world. Literally show it your face. Your true face. And you would start with the men who welcomed you.

You inhale once more. Exhale. Your heart is pounding in your ears and you wonder if it will burst through the bindings and ruin your new suit. Pressing a hand against it, you tell yourself that no matter what happens, you will be ok. One final check in the mirror and then you turn, long legs taking you out of your bedroom, down the hallway, and through the double doors into the dining room where you had asked the residents to meet you.

Eleven heads turn when those wooden doors open. A lump of nervousness like a spiked ball has lodged itself firmly in your throat. Somehow you managed to take another few steps forward, closing the doors behind you. Your hands are trembling so you shove them into your pants pockets. Their faces seem to blur in the haze of your anxiety, but you do catch Arthur’s brilliant blue eyes alight with curiosity, his head tilted to one side. Theo’s expression is serious, almost dour, as usual. Vincent leans forward, resting his arms on the table as he regards you, brows raised, open interest painted across his face like a ray of sunshine. Jean looks confused, leaning toward Napoleon. You know he is speaking because you see his lips moving and Napoleon shaking his head.

It is Comte, leaning against the cabinet that holds all the fine China, cup of tea in hand, who speaks first.

“Good evening. You wished to speak with us?” His expression is calm, placid as a lake in summer, but his eyes are bright when they meet yours. It feels like a lifeline in a gathering storm.

“I did. I have something to say and I thank you all for gathering here, ready to listen.” You draw another breath, feeling faintly ill. Isaac’s intelligent gaze is running over you, making you nervous. Is he making a categorized list of all the changes he notices? Your lips part and nothing comes out.

Leonardo moves from where he is leaning against the wall. Cigarillo in hand, he casually blows out a thin plume of smoke as he heads to one of the empty chairs, lowering himself into it with all the grace of a large feline, his golden eyes meeting your gaze.

“Go on, amico mio.” His words are few and soft-spoken. But they hit your ears as loudly as a clap of thunder. Not cara mia. Amico mio. My friend. My male friend. Your heart feels like it might explode with gratitude at the simple gesture and you know he sees it in your face because he offers you a smile before taking another drag on his cigarette.

Courage floods your veins, tempering the burning pain of anxiety. It isn’t quite gone, but it feels....manageable. You square your shoulders and begin again.

“Good evening. I’d like to introduce myself.”

And from there it’s easy. The words pour from your lips like water, clear and bright and unhindered. You explain your name. What you have chosen and why. You explain the concept of deadnaming. You shower them with information about pronouns and their importance. You bathe them in the soft warmth of your truth. You show them the very fabric of your soul with shaking hands. As your voice fills the room, there is quiet. Every single vampire in the room is still, is listening. You tell yourself not to worry about those with furrowed brows or confusion their eyes. You will do what you can to help them understand.

You don’t know how long you speak, but judging by the dryness of your throat it is a while. And when the words finally trickle to an end, you feel the release of the adrenaline that fueled you. Your body has given all that it can. The rest in now in their hands.

“.....Are there…..any questions?”

Dazai has been watching you with eyes golden as the sun’s first rays in summer. He stands, reaching for a glass and pours cold water from the pitcher into it. Then he crosses the room, holding it out to you. Gratitude floods you yet again as you take it, as you see the smile on his lips, the nod of his head. As he addresses you with your name. And the added -kun on the end makes your heart soar.

Vincent speaks first. “So…..you have always felt this way?” The ice cracks. There is a soft murmur as you walk to the dining room table and settle yourself into one of the chairs, glass of water firmly in your grip.

“Yes.”

What follows are questions. A cavalcade of them. Some of the residents have trouble understanding how gender and biology are two separate concepts. Others are worried they will have trouble with pronouns. Some are worried for other reasons. This is Paris in the 19th century. They fear for your safety if you leave the mansion. Others swear to protect you when you do. Arthur seems more interested in where you got your gorgeous tailored suit and would like you to take him shopping. This makes you laugh.

As you speak, as you answer the questions they ask, you feel how they are trying, how they want to support you in any way you can. How they want to understand. Some like Dazai and Comte and Leonardo, the golden-eyed trio, are quicker to accept. You wonder if they have met others like you before. Some part of you, deep in the marrow of your bones, knows they have. Some have a harder time. Theo, Isaac. Their expressions are sharper, less relaxed. But not once do they make you feel anything other than acknowledged. They see you. They really see you.

The hours slide by until the residents, one by one, leave to attend their nightly business. Soon only Comte remains. He sets his long-empty teacup onto the table, splaying his elegant hands across the polished wood.

“The hour is late and you have given everyone much to think on.”

You push your chair back, nodding. Now all you feel is a satisfied sort of exhaustion, like one might feel after a long hike through the mountains or a long swim in the ocean.

“Comte?”

Le Comte de St. Germain looks up, his features bathed in soft candlelight. He looks timeless, ageless, eternity formed in flesh and bone.

“Yes?”

“Thank you.”

Those words don’t feel like enough to convey how you feel but he smiles all the time, slow and beautiful and soft with affection. “Bonne nuit, mon ami. Fais de beaux rêves.” Good night, my friend. Sweet dreams.
