꒦꒷ enhypen ! the moment when fans started shipping them with you <3
idol-ot7!enhypen x idol-fem!reader .. fluff .. no warnings<3 not proofread!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ε ї з — heeseung
fans started to notice how heeseung kept stealing glances at you when you were busy interviewing them.
you, a new mc in a rookie group got all heeseung’s attention. you’re giggling? heeseung giggles too. you’re smiling? heeseung’s smiling too.
“how do you feel about your comeback?” you made an eye contact with heeseung and your heart skipped a beat. “um…” he was left speechless because of the short interaction you both had.
jungwon took the mic and giggled, speaking instead of the stressed heeseung and making a joke about heeseung being too tired to focus.
fans couldn’t ignore how heeseung kept looking at you with a smile all smeared over his face, as if he just now fell in love with you.
not even a day passed after the interview and all the fans would go crazy with videos and tweets about you two.
“have you seen the way he looked at y/n? i swear we were all just witnessing this man falling in love with her for the first time”
ε ї з — jay
one of the things that your fans loved the most was to watch your lives and ask you questions.
you decided to do one on valentines day and one of the most common questions was if you got something for valentines day when you were younger.
“if i got something for valentines day…?” you repeated the question, thinking about your school days, “i did actually! it was a flower bouquet and a few chocolates with a cute little note on the side” you giggled remembering the cute gift you got.
“jay from enhypen was my classmate back then” you added right after.
fans went feral, making up conspiracies about you and jay being classmates and jay being the one who got you the valentine gift.
he went on live at the same day and his whole live was filled with questions about you and valentines day. he just giggled and confirmed that you and him indeed were classmates, no mentions of the valentines day gift at all.
that didn’t stop the fans from shipping the both of you and videos from yours and his lives became trending.
“jay and y/n confirmed being classmates! y/n also spoke about getting a valentines day gift and right after that she mentioned jay! if you’re asking me, jay has been crushing on her for a while ;)”
ε ї з — jake
a new jake en-log was uploaded and fans rushed to view jake’s vlog. jake was so excited to film a new en-log episode so he filmed everything literally everywhere.
he made a small tour in his room. completely forgetting your signed album that was hanged on his wall.
it didn’t help at all when you also posted a vlog and behind your room wall was an enhypen album, signed by jake—even though it was far, fans could recognize his signature
you and him once met, and he brought you one of your albums to sign on it, and you brought him one of enhypen’s album for him to sign on it.
both of your fans went crazy with theories about the two of you dating and giving each other signed albums as gifts.
“did you see their albums just hanging there on their room wall? they’re fr a power couple😭 jake teach us ways to get y/n signature on one of her albums!!”
ε ї з — sunghoon
a rumor has been going around lately that you and sunghoon were chosen as the new ambassadors for a famous brand.
the rumor kept on going until a new photoshoot came out, and not-so-surprisingly, it was a new photoshoot of you and sunghoon together, presenting you as the new ambassadors for the brand.
you and sunghoon stood extremely close to each other, posing extremely close to each other as well. you had an interaction that fans has never seen before between a fem and a male idols.
a few days later the brand posted a short video of the behind the scenes, showing the both of you really close to each other with such a good interaction between you two.
fans went insane, making your photoshoot trending everywhere and talking about it all the time. especially shipping the both of you nonstop.
“have you seen y/n’s and sunghoon’s photoshoot?? I’M GOING CRAZY OVER HERE!! i’m thankful for that brand for making them the new ambassadors and we better get new photoshoot every month🙇‍♀️”
ε ї з — sunoo
interaction between idols on award shows isn’t something new so are the reactions to other groups.
sunoo is already known as the king of kpop, who knows all the trends and new kpop songs. to other fans it wasn’t new when he was cheering for you when it was your performance, to his fans it wasn’t the case.
sunoo himself got up and danced to your performance, he cheered and chant for you, it’s something they’ve never seen before, even his members looked surprised.
you also went down the stage and interacted with other idols, when you got to sunoo, both of you danced together and had the cutest interaction ever.
the other fans started to notice the cute interaction and agreed that this is something they’ve never seen before.
sunoo and you went trending as the new kpop queen and king without even trying to do so.
“did you see their interaction and how he cheered? YOU CANT TELL ME THEY’RE NOT DATING!!😭😭 HE’S SUCH A SUPPORTIVE BOYFRIEND”
ε ї з — jungwon
new MCs were introduced, aka you and jungwon. the fans weren’t expecting for much interaction between you two. they mostly thought it’d be so awkward between you two at start.
it wasn’t the case at all. the minute the camera started rolling, you and jungwon had the best interaction MCs has ever had.
both of you looked a bit more than comfortable around each other, making jokes and playfully pushing the other.
the idols you interviewed together looked shocked mostly from the way the you acted around each other, they could’ve swore you two are dating but hiding it.
even you were asked multiple times by your idol friends you interviewed if you and jungwon are dating. the both of you left the whole kpop community in shock.
you made fans wait impatiently every week to see new interactions of the both of you, you got the kpop community wrapped around your fingers. both of you even won as the couple of kpop in one of the award shows.
“did you see their new interaction today? I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT WEEK HONESTLY!! if they’re not dating then i don’t believe in love at all”
ε ї з — ni-ki
you wanted to get some coffee since you craved for some. you argued with your manager and told her you’d be careful enough to not get recognized and she let you off.
ni-ki at the same time lost in a rock paper scissor game and had to buy coffee to all the members.
you both happened to go to the same coffee place without even knowing.
he accidentally bumped into you and the both of you had a short interaction of a ‘sorry’ and ‘it’s okay, no worries’ type of thing.
the fans who recognized you from afar and were respectful enough to not bother you, took some pictures of your short interaction with ni-ki, which made his fans and your fans go wild.
they immediately started shipping you, thinking that you were on your way to have a date together and didn’t have much interaction because you both were in public.
“they won’t go to the same place for no reason!! they probably bought some coffee and went on a date in a more private place after that!! they look so cute!!😭😭”

Hello! Time for another blog post! I think my last one was two months ago and a lot has happened since 😊
We have been attending a ton of historical recreation events so I still have many photos to share, hope you don't hate those! It's been really fun! We are exhausted and all out of social battery however so we are taking it easy this month. Another thing that's been happening a lot is that even when we are not dressed in historical clothing we keep getting stopped by strangers on the street because of our everyday outfits, it's been like that for a couple of years now so we are no longer startled or nervous about it but it's happening more and more often now and it's so nice! we always end up chatting about the events we go to and our jobs and hobbies and exchanging contacts or they ask for photos and stuff! people are really kind and excited about it and I still find it so surprising in the best way. We grew up in a very hostile city and environment and that makes you paranoid and cynical so these interactions and response has been healing really. I know their words will stick with us for years to come 😭 Sadly the unbearable heat is starting though so that means our outings for the next three months will be limited to the crack of dawn and after sunset 😞 but at least the summer brings a lot of fruit with it so we can sit at home and eat pineapples and strawberries while we wait for autumn.
My family came to visit a few months ago too and we made them watch most of Doctor Who's season one to four and some of our favourite episodes from all the other seasons lmao. And much to our delight they really enjoyed it!! They both loved Ten the most and my step dad is now in love with Martha 🥰
We have also been watching the current season and it's been so fun keeping up with fandom theories in real time and talking about it and speculating with friends in person, it's the first time we get a chance to do it since we got into the series and we are enjoying it a lot!
We also watched season one of Jessica Jones and we loved David's performance as Kilgrave!! He stole the show for real. Kilgrave is such an incredible villain, one of the best I've seen and DT does such an amazing job portraying every aspect of him. He's detestable and volatile and frighteningly powerful and has such an intimidating terrifying presence in the narrative while also being pathetic and vulnerable and ridiculous and childish and so human with all it's worrying implications. It was just so gripping and I wish he had stayed for the rest of the show honestly!! Now we have to pick our next David Tennant series to watch! 😊
Also!! Dragon Age is back!! AHHH I wanted to thank everyone that commented on my last DA pieces, it has made my month to read the comments, I didn't expect so many people to remember my art or my character after so many years and it's so touching and flattering you have no idea 😭💘 I look forward to making more and sharing them with you all, I'm truly grateful for the kindness you've shown me both back then and now I hope you know.
I feel so spoiled lately with all these franchises that I love releasing new content!! I've never been in these many fandoms at once!! I have so many ideas to draw and keep jumping back and forth between drawings from different shows and games AAAAA it's a good and welcome change honestly, keeps me busy and inspired!
Anyway that's all for now I think! I hope you are doing well and this summer/winter is kind to you all ❤️

What do you feel?
Pairing: Five Hargreeves x F!Reader
Warnings: fluffff, some things are a little out of canon, F!Reader is also someone with powers. She can feel others' feelings and make others feel hers through touch.
Tumblr media
You still remembered the first time Five crossed your eyes at Temps Comisson. The neat jacket, the formal shorts and the almost arrogant posture for just a kid. At first, you hated him.
"A new friend for you." the manager introduced you to him and the two of you barely bothered to shake hands.
"Great, a newbie." Five replied, without much patience.
"I already have my suitcase, I don't need this new one." the cynicism in your tone was clear to both of them. When you saw the manager looking at you impatiently, you turned to him. "Let's follow the rules: don't get in my way, don't meddle in my choices and please don't expect me to save you if you're standing in the grave."
"I could say the same." Five replied, extending his hand to you. "Deal."
And a few years later, here you were. Cooped up in the family of what you could call your best friend, attending a wedding taking place under the lights of the end of the world.
"What do you think, huh? Apocalyptic weddings." Five whispered as the bride and groom entered.
"First I need to find someone who can handle it." your answer came out almost automatically and you just watched Five deny it, with a smile on his lips.
The ceremony was quick, totally the opposite of dinner. The two of you chose to sit at a table alone, taking in your surroundings. The happy couples, Ali and Viktor fighting, Ben being disturbed by Klaus.
"Can you feel what they think from here?" Five asked, filling his glass.
"Sex, sex." you pointed to Luther and Diego with their respective spouses. "Guilt and grudge." you pointed at Viktor and then Allison. "And suicide." Finally, you pointed at Ben. "Look, I don't even need to go there and touch them."
"Sometimes I forget." He pointed to your hands covered in gloves. "And you, how do you feel about the world ending?"
"Relief, I guess." You lied, seeing him nod.
You both watched Klaus approach, in silence. Brother Hargreeves tried to convince them to listen to Sir Reginald, but it was in vain. You understood his hope, in trying to somehow rescue his father's good image and no matter how much he denied it, you could feel that Five wanted to be able to have that kind of hope too.
"I still don't believe him." Five said in a low tone, despite having alcohol in his blood, he still needed to remain alert.
"Me either." you imitated him, moving closer to him. The two of your heads were practically glued together as the two of you talked. "It's a shame to see Klaus so… wait a minute."
Sir Reginald's presence was present there, frightening everyone. It wasn't the spiteful version that you heard Five talk about over the years, but there was something that didn't fit there, you could feel it.
The man gave a brief speech, with a huge poem and it was clear from the looks of those around that the situation was stranger than you could imagine. Perhaps with the intention of breaking the ice hovering in the air, as soon as Hargreeves left the microphone, the dance floor was filled with music and colored lights.
"The old man is actually good at it." Five pondered, taking your attention.
"I don't know, something is wrong. He's always alert, he won't let me touch him." you responded immediately, watching him think for a few seconds.
"Any ideas what we can do?"
"I don't know if you got the memo, but we're about to die. " you turned away from Five to grab your glass. In a cynical gesture, you took your glass towards his glass, improvising a toast. "Here's to the old man's minutes of sanity."
"How can you be so frank?" He seemed indignant, drawing a laugh from your lips. "You're worse than me."
"Ah, dear Five. Try to feel what everyone else feels for a day. All the anger, all the fear. Your own feelings become a burden to you." your words silenced him, leaving space for him to just nod and for you to return to contemplating the speeches.
"I'm glad the world is ending." he stood up, extending his hand to you while his other hand held the bottle of champagne you shared. "Screw other people's feelings."
"Yeah, screw it." You accepted and stood up.
Five led you to the dance floor and even though the music was more upbeat and the dance floor was full of his brothers, he still spun you around a few times, in a kind of disconcerted waltz.
Five soon let go of you and climbed up to where the DJ table was, taking the microphone from the strange man. Without speech or prior notice, Five began to sing. The lyrics weren't the happiest of all, much less the melody, but they were familiar to you. You remembered singing it a few times in Five's presence and saying how much it reminded you of your father, who had been away from you for years.
"Would you accompany me?" your eyes moved away from Five's to Klaus, who proposed a dance. You could notice his suspicious look as he led you away.
"You like him, don't you?" Klaus asked and you just nodded, there was no point in hiding it anymore. "Well, you still have some time until the world ends."
"And if it doesn't end, what do I do next?"
"What do you mean it doesn't end?" Klaus asked, stopping turning you around. "Will you accept Dad's plan?"
"No, no, that's not it. I've seen Five end apocalypses before, I think something inside me hopes he can fix this one too. Maybe it's just the grief speaking inside me."
"Yeah, maybe."
Klaus turned you around once again and let you go, leaving you alone for just a few seconds.
"Let's get out of here?" Five's voice materialized behind you. "I need fresh air."
Before you could respond, he held your hand and led you away. It only took a few minutes for the two of you to be alone, watching the orange sky from the building's terrace.
"Can I ask you something?" You sat next to him, keeping little distance. Before you could ask, he held out the bottle of champagne he hadn't put down yet.
"Technically you already asked."
"Stop being an idiot." your shoulders collided with his. "That's it, right? I think we finally don't have the solution."
"I can almost believe you're scared." this time, you didn't deny it, you just looked away. "You know you don't need to talk, right?"
"I know, but it's frustrating. Running after saving the world all this time and not being able to. I'd rather die, I don't know, run over by a car, with an anvil falling on my head. But an apocalypse?" you laughed and watched Five do what you had done many times when you couldn't use your voice to talk. He took one of your hands and took off the glove, allowing himself to touch your skin.
"I can feel you." he replied, in a low tone. "You are afraid."
Five preferred to omit everything else he felt when he touched your skin. Fear, anguish, anxiety, love. The last one weighed on his mind, but he knew you and knew you would come out as soon as he felt comfortable. In a way, he knew that when he touched you, you would also be aware of his feelings.
"The only people who aren't scared are those who aren't paying attention."
"I think we need to drink more, to forget about this." even after just a few minutes of sitting, Five pulled you to your feet. "And this dress suits you, it's a waste to stay here while the party is going on downstairs."
Again, he dragged you downstairs, where the celebration was taking place. Whiskey, vodka, beer, everything that still contains a quantity of alcohol became part of your menu and at the end of the party, you found yourself sitting at the counter, Five standing a few meters away, tasting two different drinks. Maybe that would be the last time the two of you would party.
"Five?" you interrupted him, making him place the two bottles on the floor. "I don't want to die with regrets."
"Elucidate me on that."
"Even though The Handler always made it clear that I was too much for you, I like you." A sob caused by alcohol interrupted your train of thought. "I like it and I know that maybe I'm a little too much for your arrogance. You're also a little too much for me." You laughed, seeing him approach. "I think after these years, it's only fair for me to say that I love you."
"You think?" he laughed, fitting himself between your legs dangling from the metal counter. "You drank too much."
"You too." you responded immediately, starting to take off your gloves. "And alcohol doesn't affect my opinion. Feelings don't lie, do you want to feel?" Before the first glove could leave your hand, Five stopped you.
"I believe in you and I feel the same." he replied and in an unexpected gesture, he hugged you, putting his face in your mouth. "I've loved you for a while, it's a shame it took us so many years to realize."
"We can live that at least now." You gave space for his face to be in front of yours. "Damn, now I wish I could end this apocalypse."
His lips took yours and instead of his hands attaching themselves to your body, Five disheveledly took off your gloves and pulled your hands until they tangled around the back of his neck.
"I love you so much." he murmured between your lips, feeling almost overwhelmed by all the feeling that emanated from your hands. "Tonight, I'm yours and you're mine, fuck this apocalypse."
"Until the world ends?" you asked breathlessly.
"Until the world ends."
Your mouth tasted like alcohol, sweets and fear for the small future, but Five didn't see the problem, after all you could love each other until the world ended.

PART 1:  Of Invisible Threats and Piercing Gazes
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: Your life has always been a  simple one, and you were kinda content with that…work, friends, family, house chores occupied your dull daily routine. But that was until one fateful Monday night, when you hung out late from the safety of your apartment to take the trash out… After that night’s surprising encounter with a couple of ‘unconventional’ men in an alley, your life took an unexpected turn, leaving you questioning if your beloved comfort and caution towards the unknown had always prevented you from discovering a brand new face of the world you lived in…and wanting to know more about the mysterious, elegant man who had irreparably caught your attention…
⚠️Trigger Warning: mentions of blood, injuries and suggestive language; swearing.
A/N: this is my first proper written work...Sorry in advance for the mistakes (English is not my first language)...not smut in here but this is just the beginning (from part 2 on things will get way more spicier😏) I hope you'll enjoy the reading!
Taglist: this work is dedicated to @chouzuko 🖤 thanks for the support 🙏
Tumblr media
It was a usual Monday night and you fell asleep on your couch while watching your favorite TV show. Monday evenings have always been the loneliest since you moved out on your own…no family around, no friends because you all have just got home tired from the first working day of the week. You had soon learnt that the only company for those nights were the ones offered by your comfortable pjs, ice-cream and the characters of the series.
You woke up at the end of the episode to an awfully loud commercial song from a spot on the TV. You sighed heavily and lazily reached for your phone, the same phone you had previously thrown somewhere across the room in a gesture of annoyance towards your inexorable boredom. You checked the hour: almost 1am. You suddenly remember you forgot to take the trash out, so with a frustrated groan you reluctantly dragged yourself off the couch and reached for your long night robe, as you didn't want to hang out alone in the dangerous streets around your block at night in nothing but the little cropped shirt and shorts of your PJ's.
You grabbed the trash from your small balcony, and descended the quiet stairs of your building. As soon as you set foot out of the building, the cool night air sent a shiver down your spine. You approached the usual trash deposit at the corner of the dark alley next to your block, but before you could even reach it,  you froze midstep with your trash in your hands at the scene unfolding in front of you: a tall, black-haired, muscular man was stabbing an invisible target with an incredible rhythm, as if in a state of unexplainable frenzy. Just a few steps away from the ongoing surreal battle, stood a man with his hands buried deep in his suit pockets and a cigarette between his teeth. He looked calm and collected, studying coldly the scene in front of him, his shoulders relaxed, as if he was totally unbothered by the nonsense happening in front of his eyes.
They hadn't even noticed you arriving, not yet… In a matter of seconds, the situation escalated quickly and irreversibly in front of your eyes: a sudden gust of energy shifted the air around you and another invisible being seemed to be jumping off one of the metallic emergency staircases without warning and landing on the muscular man’s back, tearing a terribly deep scar open…
“ Fuck it…I was right, that motherfucker wasn't the only one in here”. The elegant man hissed under his breath, throwing his cigarette to the rough ground, barely centimeters away from your slippers… It was then that everything happened, a matter of seconds made your whole world to tremble…
In the precise moment the man in a suit turned and met your widened eyes, while in the background, an animal-like grunt came from the other fighting man: the invisible 'thing'  injured him once more, this time tearing his abdomen open right in a delicate, vital zone.
“Fuck…tonight's definitely cursed” the man exclaimed while rushing forward, where the injured guy was now laying on the ground… you shivered, silently questioning yourself whether those invisible entities were still around…and why you seemed to be the one who could not see them…
“ Damage Assessment Toji…you’re strong, big guy…hey…shit..it’s deep” he hissed at the deep scar.
“That motherfucker hid from us in that block..ngh…fuck.. it stings. Is it that bad,Shiu? The deal..will they liquidate us the same?” The injured man asked him, finding the strength to lift his tight bloodstained shirt to him while wearing a wicked grin, revealing the entity of the ripped skin.
“Shut the fuck up, big head…we have company…” the man in a suit tilted his head in your direction, announcing your presence to the injured guy. You couldn't move a limb, too shocked by the whole situation. “Don’t speak… You’re losing a lot of blood…shit, Toji we’re fucked this time” The man in a suit bent downwards and lifted his mate’s arm over his shoulder.
“Fuck…be careful, Shiu..it hurts as hell. What is the plan?” the latter asked, barely containing a whimper.
“There’s no plan at all this time, Toji… the only plan now is that you’d better survive until we reach the headquarters” The man stated with a hint of concern in his small,sharp, slanting eyes.
Just when he turned in your direction you could see his appearance clearly: he was a toned, average built man with short black hair, neatly styled upwards  in a longer front tuft and shorter on the sides. His piercing gaze was topped by thin eyebrows and his even thinner lips, now contorted in a fatigued expression as he lifted his muscular friend from the ground, were topped by a sparse mustache. He looked overall peculiar at least, and his Korean-like features made him look even more appealing to your curiosity.
His eyes landed on you and a another thrill crossed your bones: there was something about him… you immediately found him attractive,yet he held an allure of mystery you couldn't shake off.
“ What are you looking at, doll? Ditch the trash and get back to your comfy house…the show’s over” the injured guy scoffed with its signature wicked grin. You noticed the visible scar on the corner of his lips and you soon understood that the strange couple's business wasn't a peaceful one…
“He’s right… this place is not suited for a good one like you…” The elegant man addressed you directly, his unreadable gaze scrutinizing the depth of your intentions.
You knew you should have turned on your heels and got back to your boring normal Monday night, but you simply couldn't help wondering what would have happened to that man… and what kind of things were the invisible ones in the alley? Were they still around?
Throwing caution to the cool night breeze, you took a decision and finally spoke:
“You are definitely taking him to the hospital,will you right? Will he be fine? He needs to see a doctor..Now” You asked the elegant man, receiving a low, grunty chuckle from the other, bleeding one.
“No, doll…" the man in a suit shoot a curious glance at you "People like us are invisible.. we’ll get through this on our own…what happened tonight stays in this alley, understood?”
You nodded: “ You have my word I will keep the secret, but please…” you inhaled deeply to conceal the crack in your trembling voice “let me take care of him… I’ve attended a first aid course years ago, I can help him…he needs healing…my apartment is right in the next block” You finally locked your eyes with the elegant man’s one, feigning a fierce stare. His eyes landed on his aching, semi-conscious friend once more before turning back to you: “ fine…lead the way…”
That night you let two strangers, two mysterious men into the safe nest of your apartment. The three of you rushed inside avoiding your neighbors noticing their unusual presence.
Once you opened the door, you ran into your living room and pressed your stuff off the table to the ground with a rapid sleight of hand, creating an improvised operating table.
“Lay him here…I’ll get back in a sec with the necessary…we need to sanitize and stitch his wounds…they look deep.. in the kitchen counter over there there's a pack of painkillers.. find it” you announced to the man, whose suit was turning crimson red from the blood spilling out his mate's abdomen.
He eyed you down silently, his thin brows furrowing slightly as trying to convey a silent doubt, avoiding saying something you soon understood: "And yes…you can trust me…" You bowed your head to him, locking gazes with his surprised, slightly widened eyes.
"No questions,doll" He reminded sharply and coldly, yet conveying a silent wave of gratitude in his softening stare. You answered disappearing in the bathroom and coming back with the necessary…
The process had been long and painful. You had to try your best and carry on your ministrations, ignoring the frequent whimpers and grunts of the injured man,lying in front of you. He was strong, his body reacted very well to the deep wounds… Surprisingly well, you had indeed never imagined someone’s body could endure all of that pain while keeping the last brink of composure…the man in front of you was incredibly and otherworldly strong…every now and then your suspicious eyes flashed from him to the other man standing in your apartment, looking for some kind of hint to make sense of that unbelievable situation, but finding none.
"I think I got him through the night, for now…let's just hope no other complications will arise…" You finally announced with a soft smile after an hour of stitching skin and swabbing blood. You could finally wipe a stray drop of sweat trickling down your forehead and exhale deeply, releasing the breath you didn't realize you had been holding.
You looked up to the corner of the room, where the man in the suit had stood still all along, watching you closely and following your every movement from afar. In that moment your eyes locked once again and this time you felt a rush of adrenaline coursing through your veins, as a subtle smirk appeared on the corner of his thin lips, framed by his even thinner mustache.
He was eyeing you down from head to toe once more, taking in your cozy yet revealing mise and smirking at how childish it might have seemed if compared to the entity of that night's events, the kind of events he was used to . He stared blatantly at the soft swell of your breasts, enhanced by the thin fabric of your top, his eyes subtly scanning the glimpse of your exposed legs from under your grey robe.
You stood there with your hands still covered in blood, feeling vulnerable under the cunning man's stare. No man had ever made you feel like this: so lectured yet so willing to be at his sharp eyes' mercy. You blushed slightly at his shamelessness and he quickly looked away, careful not to embarrass you further, yet looking completely unbothered by being caught stealing inappropriate glances at you. He appeared like a strong, self-confident man and his behavior matched his appearance perfectly.
"I guess we owe you a favor,doll… You've been a real blessing tonight". He finally spoke, daring to address you with that even more inappropriate pet name. You felt heat setting your cheeks on fire and you turned your back at him to hide your state, heading to the bathroom sink to wash the copious blood away from your hands.
To your great surprise, he followed you suit this time. He leaned against your bathroom door, silently studying the way your small, delicate, soapy hands slipped on each other under the water spray.. Before you could turn the water off,he moved into the bathroom and handed you the towel hanging above the sink.
"Such graceful hands shouldn't be covered in blood…especially...in this kind of blood" he murmured with an enigmatic expression.
"Please let me" without even waiting for your answer, he took your hands in his bigger ones through the towel, and started dabbing them with the soft fabric. His touch was gentle yet firm and you silently looked up at him, studying his peculiar features once again…
Aware of your gaze on him, he finally spoke: "My name's Shiu by the way, and he is Toji, a colleague of mine…but I can't tell you anything more… As you might have guessed already…" he continued with a heavy sigh "we are not… a good kind of people… I would say our business  is…unconventional at least… But enough about us now...Can I ask the name of this beautiful young woman, instead?" He finally looked up to you with a sly grin, catching you staring at him.
"Oh…my name's Y/N…" was all that you could say, too intimidated as you were by his presence. There was something in the way he looked at you that made your insides tremble…  you knew you should be cautious and keep your guard high, he was nothing but a stranger after all… On top of that, you were now sure he was involved in some kind of dirty, dangerous, almost certainly illegal business …but even in that precarious situation you still felt a magnetic pull towards him…
He looked like no one you had met before: he was a mist of danger, adventure and mystery… and that mix had a way of making your knees weak right in that moment, as one of his strong, calloused hands was firmly holding your wrist through the fabric of the towel, the fingers of his other hand brushing across your wet palm, and indulging on your the insides of your fingers for a second longer than expected.
Sensing your soft shiver, he looked up from your intertwined hands and let his piercing eyes land on your slightly parted mouth, tracing the swelling plumpness of your bottom lip. He suddenly let go of your hands and hung the towel back in place.
“Apologies for interrupting your…nighttime routine tonight…” he said with a deep, low chuckle. You chuckled along: "Nothing special actually…just a boring Monday evening...I guess I should be the one thanking you for... spicing things up..." You commented, finally finding the bravery to keep up with the conversation.
His cunning smirk appeared at the corner of his lips once again: “Finally... I was starting to fear cat got your tongue... Or maybe…" his tone lowered of an octave now "I imagined that our presence here got you all shy and embarassed... " He dared and teased you openly this time, grinning at your confused expression.
“Not at all…" you cleared your throat to hide the effect his confident remark had on you, marvelling at how quickly he managed to get under your skin "I’m actually glad I could help…even if…” you had to bite your lip to prevent the flow of questions in your mind to escape your mouth “No questions allowed, right?” you sighed deeply, hoping that your newly found playfulness could lead the way to further revelations.
“No, doll…" he sighed deeply, the subtle spark of mischief suddenly dying in his eyes  "Trust me, it’s way better for you not to know the whole story…”
You nodded, sensing that it was better not to push his bottons further, and you both headed back to the living room, where Toji was now sleeping soundly on your couch.
“His body is unbelievably strong…anyone else wouldn't have survived such wounds…but I guess this…is included in the things I cannot know, right?”
Shiu sighed once again, taking out a pack of Marlboro Lights from his pocket: “ I like you doll, you are a quick learner…you know, it is surprisingly difficult to find people willing to accept you without asking further about your job these days” he chuckles, a bittersweet smile forming on the corner of his lips, framed by his signature thin mustache.
“Would you mind me smoking in here?” Shiu asked politely, his piercing eyes searching for consent in yours.
“Yeah..it’s totally fine for me…wait a sec…”. At your words, he pulled out a stray cigarette from the small pack and lit it while you stood up and headed to the kitchen, searching for the ashtray you spared for the Friday nights, when your smoker friends came over, and placing it on the table next to him.
“Thank you” he murmured with a cigarette between his teeth and extended the pack to you in a gesture of offer “do you smoke,too?”
"No I don't, but thank you anyway…I am the only non-smoker in my friends group…" you stated, trying to engage in small talk while taking a seat next to him, your robe shifting slightly while you moved, revealing the soft flesh of your legs.
Shiu stopped mid-puff, exhaling slowly as wisps of smoke curled lazily in the air cracking with a newly found tension around you. He regarded you with an unreadable expression, but you could read a certain turmoil brewing inside of him behind his mask of indifference.
" Your home is very…welcoming,y/n…it kinda matches your personality…"  he finally commented, before taking in another drag, visibly forcing himself to scan around your living room, instead of staring down at your thighs once again. You couldn't help but smirk slightly at his reaction.
"My own home actually needs restyling,too…" he remarked absent-mindly "it grew colder and colder every passing day…and all of a sudden, I came home from work one night and felt like I said belong there anymore" he continued, stealing a subtle glance at you "Maybe it just needs a woman's touch…" he added while lost in his thoughts, his voice deep and hoarse from smoking, sending a jolt of surprise in your whole being.
You chuckled in response, rubbing your tired eyes.
" Had a long day, haven't you doll? You look tired, you should get some sleep…I'll be here, watching  over Toji...Don't worry for us, we'll leave before the sun comes up.. You already did enough"
Sensing the hesitance in your eyes, he reassured you with an honest look on his face:"Listen…you can lock yourself in your room if you don't trust us…well…me,at least…Toji's way too numb tonight to care about a beautiful woman sleeping in the room next to him,anyway " he suggested chuckling hoarsely. "And as for me, I would never do you harm, especially after everything you did for us… deep down, I am still a gentleman…"
You felt your cheeks on fire at his blunt suggestion and you rushed your apologies "No…no… it's not that… I don't trust you…" you reassured him "it just…feels strange..the whole situation,I mean…"
" Don't be embarrassed. I didn't expect you would trust people like us, doll… and yet, you did" he whispered back at you, a flash of self- disdain in his slanting eyes.
He took one last drag of his cigarette before flicking it into the ashtray, exhaling slowly. You could sense he felt the weight of the world on his shoulders, the weight of all of his secrets and regrets consuming him… but you could also see the good nature of his eyes, behind his cold demeanor.
"You seem like the kind of man who hasn't had a proper conversation with someone in a while…" you finally spoke, unafraid of consequences "What's weighing you down? If you want to, I'm all ears tonight, I wouldn't sleep anyway…not after... everything happened tonight" you smiled softly, trying to ease the tension.
"Oh doll, I don't wanna talk about my…troubles tonight…I feel like we've already put you through enough with our intrusion here…Anyways, yes… I can't deny I haven't actually talked to someone in a while... Usually it's just me and that giant sleepy baboon snoring on your couch... At least we have each other's back in the wreckages of our lives" he admitted curling his lips in a sad smirk. You nodded sympathetically at him with a warm and understanding gaze.
It was in that moment that the tension between you got heavier and heavier as seconds went by. He unexpectedly leaned forward to rest his warm, strong hand on your exposed knee. Your eyes locked for a moment, sending a shiver down both of  your spines. He stared at your full lips and leaned slightly towards them, letting his signature scent of cigarettes and woody cologne invade your senses. A silent exchange of common, forbidden unexpected intents flashed between you two. You surprised yourself feeling your heart drumming in anticipation but tried to play it cool.
Then, all of a sudden, the mood in his eyes changed and he forced himself to look away.
"Go get some deserved sleep, doll. Goodnight" he finally stated, announcing the end of your intimate conversation. He sighed deeply while retreating his hand and leaning back slightly into his seat. His eyes searched for yours once again, in a silent plea for forgiveness for crossing boundaries.
You stood up reluctantly and headed to your room, mentally kicking yourself for letting a heated moment like that happen between you and a complete, and potentially dangerous, stranger.
"Goodnight, Shiu…don't hesitate to wake me if anything…" unable to complete the sentence, your eyes landed on Toji's asleep figure, hinting at possible unlucky complications of his delicate state.
"I will…thank you…you're too good to people like us" he commented right before you closed your door, staring deep into each other's eyes through the crack of the door until it closed shut.
You passed that night tossing in your sheets, nervousness and curiosity stealing the sleep out of your tired body. You found yourself listening attentively as you heard footsteps approaching your corridor, stopping right before your bedroom door. You couldn't deny the spark of attraction that had litten between you and Shiu that night, even in the midst of chaos. But you soon shook off that twisted idea, still acknowledging his respectful behavior towards you and your boundaries. You grew restless by the hour and ended up collapsing in a deep, dreamless sleep right before the first signs of dawn could break into your room.
You woke up after barely an hour of sleep, your tired, heavy eyelids opened slowly to take in the first morning light. You checked your phone and noticed the hour: you rushed out of bed as you realized you fell asleep and had probably missed their departure.
Putting your robe back on, you slammed your bedroom door open and broke into the living room, only to find an empty couch and everything you had scattered across the room in the previous night's chaos now back into place, as if the events you clearly recalled had just been the product of your nightly dreaming.
You sighed and collapsed on the couch, feeling an inexplicable sense of loss: indeed, you felt like missing out , letting a chance on something you couldn't even express in thoughts escape right throat your fingers… you inhaled deeply, trying to calm your racing mind, but as you did, your nostrils took in the lingering scent of his cologne, mixed with the acre one of his extinguished cigarettes, now laying abandoned in the ashtrail on your table. You shoot a look at it, thankful for that silent presence, witnessing the tangibility of the previous night's encounter.
You couldn't help feeling a hint of sadness taking hold of you, while you stared at the room around you. It was as if the stranger who instantly caught your attention was still there with you, his presence floating in the air surrounding you.
You shook your head and got up from the couch, ready to start a new day and leaving behind the thought of him and what could have happened that night.
During the following days you focused on moving on with your life, getting back to your usual routine: you woke up early for work and came back at sunset, you enjoyed your nights out with your friends, and visited your family on Sundays. You would never admit it to yourself, but something has changed inside of you: even if you tried to avoid it, you couldn't prevent your mind from shifting back to that fateful night every now and then. Deep down, you hoped you would have the chance to see them once again, to understand what those invisible beings really were, but you knew it was all useless at that point.
Little did you know that the lingering memories of that night would have come back for more, reclaiming a special place and attention in the midst of your monotonous life…

this scenario happened on Twenty-Four and they didnt really account for the long term damage -evelynmlewis
"No long term consequences" could have been the tagline for 24. I mean, we are talking about the show where terrorists detonated a nuclear weapon in Los Angeles, and a few hours later people were going about their daily lives like nothing had happened. But, I think I remember what you're talking about, and it was a small symptom of a much larger problem.
Two important caveats: I haven't watched season 3 in roughly 20 years, so I might be slightly misremembering when things happen. Second, IMDB's trivia page doesn't have any mentions of what I'm about to say, so it's entirely possible this was a fiction cooked up by someone on TV Tropes.
The short version was that Chase (James Badge Dale) was captured and was being tortured by a Mexican cartel. (Because no synopsis of 24 is complete without gratuitous torture sequences.) And, at one point, one of the cartel members shoots him through the hand. The problem is that Chase was originally planned to be killed off right at the beginning of the next episode.
However, going into season 3, the show runners had, supposedly, gotten into a bad habit of watching fansites, and started tweaking things on the fly, when fans accurately predicted the outcomes of upcoming plot twists. This included keeping Chase alive, when the original plan was to kill him off, and also killing off Chappelle (Paul Schulze), later in the season.
So, I mentioned that the plans for Chase's execution being changed are a bit dubious, that's not true with Chappelle, and there's a couple major things to pick up on here. First is that we have confirmation from Paul Schulze that the original plan was to fake his character's death. (This came out of an interview Schulze did, though I'm not sure with whom.) The second is a production cue from the way the show was produced. By season 3, the show was being shot in two episode blocks, (so, for example, Day 3: 1:00 p.m. – Day 3: 2:00 p.m., and Day 3: 2:00 p.m. – Day 3: 3:00 p.m. were shot at the same time. Also, yeah, the official episode titles are a bit unwieldy.) In the case of Chappelle's death, it came at right before 7am (which would have been part of the shooting block for 5am to 7am.) However, Chase's death would have been right after 9pm. (Which would have been part of the 9pm to 11pm block.) This would mean that the production would have needed to bring James Badge Dale back in for what would have amounted to a glorified cameo, if they were originally planning to kill off his character. Once you're aware of the way that episodes were shot, the pacing of the series gets a lot more predictable. Significant characters (even short term ones) tend to get introduced in the front half of a block, and killed off in the back half. Not necessarily the same block, but the structure tends to hold up. Especially when the show plays with the idea of someone dying during the episode cliffhanger.)
So, where am I going with this? Don't mess with your story to keep your audience off-balance. Your first concern is keeping your story coherent, if members of your audience manage to accurately predict what you're doing, good. They're invested enough in the story that you're telling to care about what you're going to do next. These are the last people you want to mess with. And if their prediction is correct, when it does play out, that's a reward for them.
Don't follow the example of 24(especially in season 3), where the overarching plot degenerates into an incoherent mess, because it keeps getting revised, on the fly, to keep things surprising. A well written thriller shouldn't be predictable, but it should have internal consistency so when the unexpected happens, it makes sense. A second viewing (or reading) of a thriller, should provide more satisfaction, as you can now see all the pieces getting dropped into place, long before they pay off. But, again, when you're writing in a serial format, if you start flipping things around to keep ahead of what your audience is predicting, that will ruin the cohesion of your story. (And, it's why I haven't watched Season 3 since shortly after it released on DVD. When I did go back and rewatch the first two years of the show.) While it's a bit uneven, it is something the first season of 24handled remarkably well, especially in comparison to what came later.
There's a couple advantages to writing in a serialized format. If you're unfamiliar with the term, serialized fiction refers when a piece of fiction is released in multiple parts over time. This is somewhat distinct from episodic series and metaplots. Episodic series tell multiple self contained stories, while metaplots refer to an overarching storyline that hooks into episodic stories granting them a larger context. Serials are smaller parts of a larger whole. The individual pieces (or, in the case of television, the episodes) are segmented portions of a larger story. Now, I said there are advantages to serialized writing, but almost all of those come with some significant perils, that if you're wanting to
The first advantage is you don't have to have the work completed before you start putting it out there. If you have a completed chapter, you can simply post it out there for the world to see. The peril is that you can't (really) go back and change it. You're committed to the previously released material. Even if you go back and revise the earlier work, you'll have a significant portion of your audience who don't want to go back and reread chapter 3, because you cleaned up the dialog, and also closed a plot hole that would emerge years later.
The second advantage is that serials can easily deliver much larger stories than you could offer in another format. For example, each season of 24 tells a single twenty-four hour story (actually, about 18 hours, once you account for commercial breaks.) Just putting that scope in front of someone is kind of wild. The peril is that serialized stories can easily spiral out of control. For example, nearly every webcomic ever, with an ongoing plot. This can result in some insane bloat. So you can either accept the content in medias res, or you can be looking at an unpleasant amount of homework. Whatever praise 24 deserves, the show asks you for an entire day of your life to watch a single story. When put in those terms, frankly, it's not that good.
The third advantage is that you can adjust your later work to better fit what your audience responds well to. If your fans like something you're doing, you can expand that part of your story. This time, there's multiple perils. First, you can easily lose track of how your original plan fit together. This is less of an issue if you're running with a fairly loose outline, but the better scripted your original plan, the more this can inadvertently screw you over. And, as I mentioned above, with the first peril, you can easily trap yourself. For an example I'm not completely conversant in, this might be what's delayed the final Game of Thrones book, as Martin may have accidentally killed off a character he needed, and now he's spent years working out a Plan B. The second peril is a little simpler, sometimes fans are reacting to what you didn't say, rather than what you did. Peripheral characters or concepts can prove to be fan favorites because the hints you provided along the way were more enticing than the full background you had in mind. This is a very subjective risk, because ultimately, it is more about accurately gauging what your audience reacted to rather than what they said they reacted to. That's a tricky one to split.
The fourth advantage to serialized writing is, almost, more a peril disguised as an advantage: You don't have to know how this will end, when you start. You can go on the same journey as your reader. The real advantage is that it can make the story more approachable. If you look at the idea of writing an entire novel, and the scope of that scares you, then smaller serialized novellas are a lot less threatening. However, this also means you don't have a plan to finish this. Much your characters, you're going to need to figure it out on your feet. If that sounds like a fun challenge, then that's absolutely something to drop into the “Pros” column. The downside is, I've seen professionals screw this up, and worse, get it past their editor. (In this case, I'm thinking specifically of Transmetropolitan. If you know, you know; if you don't, it's a massive spoiler for the end of the series.)
I will say, on this last peril, having good documentation, and a good project bible can save your ass. Don't trust your memory to keep all the (figurative) plates spinning. Take notes on what you're doing in another document, so that in the future you'll have easy reference to try to avoid accidentally creating temporal paradoxes as you try to sketch out your conclusion.
Also, yeah, if you're going to shoot someone in the hand, even if it's with a .22, don't change your mind about killing them 20 minutes later. James Badge Dale was cool, but, dude had nothing to do but chew scenery for fifteen hours.

A lot of bucktommy shippers who have no media literacy when it comes to 9-1-1 just haven’t watched most of the show. And if they do watch the show, it’s gonna be through the lens of Tommy for some reason. I remember scrolling through tumblr one time and this person (who was obviously only watching the show for Tommy), literally saw a helicopter at the train derailment episode (the episode where Abby came back with her fiancé) and took a picture of a air rescue helicopter that was in a scene for like a few seconds and posted it with the caption “Tommy!” When in reality, no one was thinking about Tommy when that episode aired lmao. Cause he wasn’t that important of a character, and he never will be.
This isn’t to say that all bucktommy shippers are the same btw, but like it still explains why some of them have some interesting takes. It’s hard to have a substantial opinion about a show or a storyline when you haven’t even watched it. And while I do know that some people watch 9-1-1 specifically just for Buddie, I feel like it’s a little different b/c they’re main characters? Even though I still disagree with it, I still understand it way more than watching a show because of a character with barely 30 minutes of screen time throughout the whole show, and that only is ever there to add support to the main characters in some way.
Also to add to the thing that Ryan said Eddie is a straight man…..Buck was literally canonically a straight man until 7x04. Even though some of the fandom considered him to be bi for a while at that point lmao. All the arguments they use as to why Eddie can’t be gay are the same arguments people used before season 7 as to why Buck can’t be bi or into men. But wait…..they wouldn’t know any of that….because they haven’t watched all of the show.
When I was younger I might watch a show for one couple but I would at least watch the whole show to do it. I can't imagine watching a show for a character only to find out the character is not only, only in the show for like 10 minutes but for the first eight of those minutes he was a tool to show what racism was like for ACTUALLY main characters in the early days of the 118. Then sticking to that character like glue, WILD.

Story Dump Time!
The first time I started to ship Caryl, me and my family had just started TWD and were a couple of episodes in season 1.
Me and my sister took a liking to Daryl (even if he was a bit rough around the edges then) and we immediately got on pinterest and started a board dedicated to him😆
It was 2015, so a couple of seasons had already been released by this time. Meaning me and my sister thought he had more than likely found and fallen in love with someone at this point, or at least had feelings for someone and we just hadn't watched it yet.
We didn't mind to spoil it for ourselves, which was a dumb move but hey🤷‍♀️
So we typed in "Daryl and" and we let pinterest autofill the rest.
The first thing that came up was Daryl and Carol.
Now, we were SO new to this fandom that we couldn't remember who Carol even was😂
So we were like "who? Which one is Carol?" And when we saw her I was like "oh my gosh, that's the abused lady! Daryl likes the abused lady?" And I mulled it over for a minute.
We saw later season photos and gifs of them, and I realized it made sense.
He was a rough gruff redneck, and she an abused woman who didn't know how to defend herself. They were both kind of broken.
I absolutely loved the idea that he would take a liking to her, and therefore try and protect her (and her being floored that someone actually cared about her, oh it made me so excited. Then of course we see that SHE becomes more of a baddie than him, but I didn't know that at the time 😂)
I started warming up to the idea of them with every photo I saw...my sister did too.
And then, we saw THE reunion hug. The No Sanctuary hug... My sister tapped on a gif of it, and when we saw it I was done.
I absolutely LOVED it. I loved them. I saw how soft and happy they both were in that gif and I was in. Certified Caryl shipper😂💯
I saw how different they both were towards eachother, and I knew that sometime after season 1, they would start to become more to eachother and I was there for it.
Me and my sister from then on became Carylers, and we got to watch their relationship blossom into what it is today.
We held out and waited and waited, hoping they would make it official...and they always seemed to be just an episode away from doing that. But it never happened...
My sister stopped believing it would happen years ago. And I'll admit, so did I.
Only recently I started to hope again.
This proves that what Caryl has, it is special. From just a few photos and gifs, I was hooked on them and I didn't even know them at that point😂 And still today, after being strung along, Caryl fans STILL have hope for them.
That's pretty impressive...
And that's it, that's when I first became a Caryler. I spoiled it for myself, but I regret nothing!
Heres to hoping years of waiting finally pays off!🤞❤️

P.1 about the marauders socials AU (i love this au so much) inspired by this post
James & Siri's podcast where they just start it for fun but it ends up becoming super popular with over 1,000,000 listeners. They dont stick to just one subject and instead they just talk about literally anything.
In one of these episodes Sirius starts talking about some mystery gamer guy who Siri calls "moony", the fans start linking this to the gaming channel run by lily & remus because during the videos lily will sometimes yell "Moony" at remus. Everything calms down for a while, until some fan posts something on twitter saying that they can confirm that the two are dating.
@(some username im too tired to think of)
you guys, remember a few monthes ago when there was a rumor of Sirius from (insert podcast name here) dating that guy from (insert gaming channel name) i think his name was remus? anyways i was doing a little digging and i came accross one of the first gaming videos Remus & Lily made (video link) at around 10:35 Lily makes a joke and Remus says quote, "That sounds like something Sirius would say" to which Lily replys with "your highschool sweetheart/ famous podcast boyfriend? we get it Moony your madly inlove and stuff, ...im so single." Even though this video was filmed over two years ago it implys that the two have been togather for at least a couple of years. And maybe your thinking "but how do we know its the same people?" fact one (1) Remus talks about a guy named Sirius- like how many sirius can you think of- AND the sirius he talks about has a famous podcast??!! 2) as i said earlier in the newest podcast ep Sirius calls mystery guy Moony, which seems to be a nickname for Remus. So in conclusion i belive that, based on concrete evidence, Sirius from (podcast name) is involved in a romantic relationship with Remus aka Moony from (gaming channel name).
~~~~~
"Moonpie" Sirius calls from where he sits at the table, hair still wet from her shower. "You have to see this, some person on twitter figured us out."
This catches this Remus's attention and he scrambles down the stairs to meet his partner in the kitchen, Sirius hands him the phone and he skims through the post. He does have to admit that the fan is very detaled, as most of the facts were correct.
"wow" he whispers under his breath, "well it was bound to happen eventually, so what now pads?"
Sirius chuckles under his breath, "What else is there to do? Obviously we update our insta relationship status and watch as the fans loose there minds." Obviously Sirius ment this as a joke as she immediately started laughing.
"Sirius." he rubbed his temples, "be seriou-" he cut himself off, knowing this would end in another im always sirius joke. "We have to be logical."
"Mooooony" Sirius said the word like a breath, "it'll be fineeee." He reached for Remus's hand, "Promise, 'k?"
"okay." He gave a small smile and sirius squeezed his hand.
Yesterday I arrived at a Christmas fundraiser event as a volunteer. There were parents and kids, carols and laughter, families dancing and talking in bright voices.
My back was to it all. I guarded the entry table, took money, explained the festivities, and watched them move on. Other volunteers came to talk with me, sat at the table two and three at a time, offered me cocoa and cookies and engaged me in bright conversation while the room reverberated with noise and more families came in and waited expectantly at my table.
Four hours later, I felt like I was going to pass out, but I had two more hours to go. By the time I got home after dark, I was shaking. I felt like my brain had been sucked out with a straw, leaving a rattling ringing in my ears.
This morning, after running tech for the UU service, everyone got up and started talking at once but I couldn't understand them because there was a crashing ocean noise in my skull that rumbled painfully in my ears every time someone made a sound. I had to get out. I picked up my bag, said goodbye, and ran.
For the past few years-- since joining this community and since becoming a manager at work, since I've started running meetings and supervising people and being asked to give every moment of my time to solving other people's personal problems or to noisy, bright, confusing events --I've forced myself to try and be normal.
Normal is taking everything I have, so I keep my abnormalities to myself: my fanfiction, my kids' shows, my fantasy novels, my podcasts, the tent I sleep in every night because it's the only thing that makes me feel safe. These things are secret because they're mine and mine alone. I can't let normal take them, too.
One of those secret things is Hilda.
I adore this show so incredibly much. I feel like it was written just for me: the folklore, the woods, the low-stakes adventures, the knowledge that everything will be okay in the end. This is the world I always wanted. It's the story that I always wanted to write. Even now, its gentle lessons on how to be a good person and how to be a good friend are morals I needed to hear. And I tried applying those lessons: be adventurous, invite others to explore with you, say what's on your mind, ask questions, knock on doors, help where help is needed, engage fully in every conversation, spend all your time with other people, leap first and look later, be loud, and contribute to the noise and color and light. Do all these things and everyone will love you. Keep doing it, even if it hurts. You'll adjust. You'll become resilient. And you'll be happy and you'll make everyone else happy.
But then. Now. There's Louise.
Tumblr media
This is me. I'm so quiet that no one sees me, no one knows my name, and when I make a sound people jump. In my overwhelmed and frustrated state, after trying so hard to be like everyone else, this three-second scene made me cry with relief.
I'd been so focused on turning myself into the person that everyone else needed that I'd forgotten who I am. Louise reminded me. As the episode went on, I remembered how I used to quietly and calmly observe. How I would absorb and analyze and only speak when I'd built up something to say.
But most importantly-- the thing that reached into my soul and ripped it out --was the fact that Louise is comfortable in who she is. By the end of the show, her quiet observation is her strength. She's strong and confident, not timid and shy. She can be accepted warmly as a good friend even if she isn't as loud as everyone else. Her character arc is not to overcome her quietness. Being quiet is a part of her personality, and she's loved and accepted for who she is.
And that? I don't remember seeing that.
Ever.
Only a couple weeks ago I sat in a roomful of people and told them I was grateful to them for teaching me how to be more outgoing while, at the same time, the raging ocean waves of protest crashed in my ears. Just push through it, I'd thought. The more you force yourself to be extroverted, the easier it will become. But what if it was okay to be myself?
I haven't watched past this introductory episode, but this kids' show is washing away my existential crisis and I love it so, so much.
We don’t love each other (PedroPascalxreader) angst! Part IV
Summary:  You and Pedro are: friends with benefits, for many years. Your layout is simple and clear. You don’t love each other. You’re friends on a daily basis, you take care of each other… Sometimes you sleep together. You go on dates with other men and Pedro doesn’t mind. Everything is simple until you accidentally hear Oscar say that Pedro loves you. Then you decide to tell him the truth and you ruin everything.
Warnings: angst!!! smut, mentions of sex, friends with benefits, sad, broken hearts, age difference (reader is 15 years younger than Pedro)
Part IV
For your meeting with Oscar, you chose a small, quiet cafe that also had tables outside. They were surrounded by thin wooden walls to give guests more privacy. It is not without reason that you chose the time when the least people came to the cafe. You felt that talking to Oscar would not be pleasant and you didn't want the presence of any nosy fans.
You arrived much earlier and started to remember the old times again. It's not that you didn't like Oscar. It's just that there's always been this little tension between you two that you've come to understand now. You remembered one such situation.
*
Pedro organized a barbecue at his place. The first season of The Mandalorian has just entered the Disney platform. He was so excited and wanted to share his joy. You weren't a Star Wars fan, but the first two episodes made you fall in love with the show.
You ran into the kitchen with a big smile to grab a few more glasses. Oscar was also inside. He was leaning back against the kitchen counter and scrolling through his phone. You opened one of the upper cupboards and stood on your toes, but still couldn't reach them. You heard a soft sigh and after a moment Oscar stood next to you.
"How much?" He asked.
"Four is enough."
You pulled away and he placed six glasses on the table. You rolled your eyes at that but left it unanswered.
"So," he began, "I heard you broke up with Rafael."
"I didn't break up. He turned out to be gay and he tried to force himself into something he didn't want to do. We became friends. I don't blame him."
"Another one for the collection," he muttered so quietly you almost missed it.
But you decided not to comment on it and asked something else.
"Don't you and Pedro have better things to talk about?"
You knew it was Pedro who told Oscar about Rafael. Because who else?
Oscar smiled and shrugged.
"You know, we like to exchange information about which chica is available?"
You shook your head.
"I remind you that you have a wife."
"And I'm very happy with that. I'm not chasing the unattainable.
You narrowed your eyes and wanted to say something, but just then a happy Pedro burst into the kitchen. He spun around you, put his hand on your hip and pecked your cheek.
"Are you having fun?”
"Sure," you replied.
Oscar winked at his friend and finally put his phone back in his pocket.
"How do you like Emily?"
Pedro rolled his eyes. He removed his hand from you but stayed close.
"She's a little rigid."
"Because she's stunned by you," moaned Oscar.
You giggled a little and grabbed a couple of glasses.
"So it was you who bring this innocent lamb to the wolf pack."
Oscar glared at you, but you were already leaving. You just threw over your shoulder:
"Pedro, bring the rest of the glasses!"
You sat down on the garden sofa across from Emily and watched her closely. You felt a pang of jealousy. Oscar really had an eye for women. You wanted to push that feeling away. Your deal with Pedro was clear. He had the right to date other women. But it hurt.
After a while, Pedro joined you and of course sat next to you, although there was more space next to Emily. You'd be lying if you said it didn't made you happy.
Pedro seemed a little sad and tense so you put your hand on his knee and squeezed it lightly. You didn't think much about that. It was natural. Just like the fact that Pedro moved even closer to you and put his arm around you.
*
You saw Oscar approaching and you sat up straight. His appearance made you laugh slightly. Really, even if you had poor eyesight, you'd recognize a star in him. When he was close enough you said:
"It's funny how you celebrities always think a cap and sunglasses are enough to make you unrecognizable. Like... your beard is enoughed."
"Nice to see you too, Y/N."
You snorted and gave him a mocking look as he took his seat.
"I heard, you quickly got back with Tyler."
So Oscar decided to go straight to the attack. You tensed up and growled.
"None of your fucking business."
He clicked his tongue and took off his cap and sunglasses.
"I didn't come to argue."
You raised your eyebrows. He had the audacity to accuse you of being with Tyler again and he said he wasn't here to argue. You wondered for a moment how he knew. Probably from Pedro, but... How did Pedro know? You thought maybe Laura had said too much as usual and you abandoned that thought. You had more important things to do. You had to get back at Oscar.
"Really? I think that's mostly what you came for. To knock me out more and remind me how much you don't like me."
Oscar was silent for a moment and watched you closely. You felt like his eyes were burning you. Finally he said:
"You know, I liked you at first, a lot. But then I found out about your deal with Pedro. And I got sick of watching my friend suffer."
Your heart clenched, and before you thought it over, you had already answered.
"I didn't know he loved me."
Oscar shook his head and looked at you as if you were someone stupid.
"Really? All those things he used to do for you. He followed you around like a puppy... Dammit, he even had your favorite shampoo in the bathroom!"
"Okay! A point for you." You sighed heavily and rubbed your temples. "I know what it looks like. I was stupid, but in my defense: Pedro is nice to any woman. Have you ever seen how he make a woman cry? " Oscar raised his eyebrows. "Except me," you gasped.
"Okay, now the point for you. He's sweet to women, but he hasn't slept with all of them."
"One point for you," you growled.
You were getting really tired of this conversation.
"What do you want from me, Oscar?"
" That you go to talk with him."
"NO."
He looked at you angrily.
"Really? After all he's done for you, you can't even give him that?"
"What? We can't be together. Pedro was clear about that, and I went back to Tyler. Besides, isn't that what you wanted? That we would stay away from each other."
"No. I wanted you to be happy. Both of you."
You didn't know if you wanted to punch him or laugh at him.
"Great, then you could talked about it, with the door closed!"
He threw his hands up and growled in frustration.
"Did you two sign some kind of aggression pact against me? You and Pedro. You both hold the same grudge. You were one who eavesdrop us. You should have left as soon as you realized he wasn't alone."
You clenched your hands into fists. Okay, he had a point, but he didn't have to throw it in your face.
"We're here for you to lecture me that eavesdropping is wrong?"
It seemed he was to make another biting remark, but eventually relented.
"Y/N, I'm really worried about him."
You felt worried for a moment, but... Who the hell did he think he was to dump it on you.
"Well, that's not my problem anymore. Pedro's been through worse things in his life and he's dealt with it. Besides, he barely spoke to me while he was filming The Last of Us, and somehow he was fine."
Oscar shifted uneasily in his seat.
"I advised him that."
You looked at him furiously. If you weren't still in a public place, you would have stood up and started clapping.
"Great! Then keep advising him, because you're doing this fucking awesome!"
He ignored your sarcasm, but you weren't going to stop.
"Also, the last time I saw a wave of videos, after his performance at the premiere, he looked great. I didn't notice him being sad."
"Y/N, you can do better. I'm an actor and I can see when others pretend. And you... Seriously? You know him. You know what he's like. Maybe this will convince you." He leaned over to you and said, "He turned down a good movie because it's going to be shot in Spain."
"And what does that have to do with me?"
"Have you seen those dogs, thrown on the road from cars, who stay where they are because they believe their owner will come back?"
"Did you just compare Pedro to a discarded puppy and me to someone who throws dogs out of cars?"
Oscar rolled his eyes.
"I'm an actor, I like metaphors."
"I think, that you like insulting people more."
"You're getting off topic."
You were really tired of talking to him.
"What do you think I should do?"
"Meet him, please. Tell him to move on like you did. He'll listen to you."
You suddenly felt sad. You looked into Oscar's brown eyes. His weren't as warm as Pedro eyes. But you always saw them as two brothers.
"You know, it's too bad you didn't want to be my friend."
"What do you mean?"
"That you knew how he felt. You knew he was suffering because he confided in you. Who was I supposed to confide in? Pedro was my best friend. He was the only one I really opened up to, but about this one thing... what I feel for him, I couldn't tell him. I know you think I'm the bad person in this story, but you know... No one is born a villain."
Oscar swallowed and cringed. This was not the reaction you expected. You expected him to make another sarcastic reply, but you heard his soft voice.
"I'm sorry, Y/N. Really."
He surprised you. You always knew Oscar was a good guy. If he wasn't like that, Pedro would never be friends with him. You sat in complete silence for a moment, then suddenly he asked:
"And how... How are you doing?"
You had to look at him to really believe he was talking to you. He looked at you with concern and you barely held back the tears welling up in your eyes.
"I miss him. More than you can imagine. But, maybe I deserved it. He suffered so many years because of me..." You took a ragged breath. "I will meet him. I will tell him what he wants to hear. That I am no longer mad at him for shouting on me. I will tell him that I understand him and that I have understood that I do not love him. And that we both have to move on.”
Oscar nodded.
"This should help."
He looked at his watch and winced.
"Sorry, but I have to get back to the set now." He stood up and to your greatest surprise, gave your arm a light squeeze. " Take care Y/N."
When he left you, you hid your face in your hands. Why did it all have to be so hard?
You were afraid of meeting Pedro, but you had to do it. Talking to Oscar made you open your eyes. Everything Pedro did for you was declaration of love, and you broke his heart. Over and over again.
*
It took you two days to pull yourself together. You finally decided to do it. You borrowed Tyler's car and arrived late at night at Pedro's apartment door.
Your heart was beating like crazy, and in your head you were still repeating the speech you had prepared. You kept saying to yourself: Pedro deserves it.
You rang the doorbell and as it opened, all the air escaped your lungs.
"Hello."
A slim, tall blonde looked at you with blue eyes. She was wearing a nightgown and a bathrobe. She was beautiful. You couldn't deny it. You even forgot where you were for a moment. You finally got your voice back.
"Is Pedro at home?"
"Yes, but he's in the shower. Call him?"
You immediately shook your head "no". You had enough and you didn't want see his half-naked body next to that blonde.
"No... I... I'm... I live in the neighborhood and... I'm looking for my cat. Yes, a cat. It's all black."
The woman looked at you sympathetically. Apparently she thought your trembling voice was the result of losing a pet.
"I'm sorry, I haven't seen your cat."
"Ok. Goodnight."
You ran back to the car without even turning around. You drove away quickly, but after only a few kilometers you pulled over to the side of the road. You started slamming your hands on the steering wheel, screaming and crying. Was that what Pedro felt every time you dated someone? Tears ran down your cheeks. You were so angry and sad. You had no right to feel jealous, but you did. A loud sob escaped your mouth.
And of course you wanted to slap Oscar. Pedro obviously didn't suffer all that much and didn't need to talk to you to move on.
"Fuck you Oscar!!! Fuck you Pedro... Fuck you all!!!"
*
So I heard you found somebody else
And at first, I thought it was a lie
I took all my things that make sounds
The rest I can do without
I don't want your body
But I hate to think about you with somebody else
Our love has gone cold
You're intertwining your soul with somebody else
Somebody Else - The 1975 (Cover) by Alice Kristiansen
*
Did Pedro really find somebody else? 🥺
Part III
Part V - ( there will be some Pedro pov)
Yes, Oscar is mother hen
I watched Bee and Puppycat Lazy in Space last night since I heard that they re-animated the first few eps. I did watch the originals and seasons 1-2 back when it came out. I'm kind of mixed, Bee and Puppycat has always had awkward pacing issues but to me it was kind of endearing, but uhm, good lord it was more obvious in the re-animated episodes. I do like that they added more context to Bee/Puppycat's history, I love it a lot, I was hoping to see more of it in the later episodes 😭
I am kind of sad that a couple of the episodes were mega shortened to just short mentions, like Bee's Birthday job at Cloud World or whatever. I think the part I was a little more sad about was the "What's your favorite color?" part, it felt a little more rushed, I guess it was just trying to fit in Bee's Dad bit and them going to the Glitch Gorge scene, rather than just ending it there like in the original and having the scenes of Cardamons Mom and Deckard.
The rest of the episodes were just all of the "season 2" one's, which are pretty good. To be fair, I did skip a good chunk of it after learning it was just Season 2 again so if they added new scenes, I might have not known about it.
Other than that, uhmmm Moully is still one of my favorite characters (Wesley, Crispin, Puppycat, etc. too). For soundtrack, I am so upset that the Funny Lying OST where Space Outlaw and Violet are shown for the first time together to candy hunt are not in the album, it make's me so mad, that is one of my favorite OSTs and it's not in ANY OF THE ALBUMS RAHHHHHHHHHHH
Anyways I do recommend watching it if you want a slice of life thing, though maybe watch the first original season over the one on Netflix, but do note that it is a little longer than the one on Netflix, as it's all been condensed down to 3 episodes rather than it's original 10(?)
Edit: one last thing that I just remembered, I didn't like (or I guess I feel mixed) about the episode of Deckard going to the culinary school. I thought it went by a little too fast and Bee already knowing what letter it was without reading it (assumingly, and also the recycling bin should be way too dark for her to read in there 💀 unless she has night vision. What I DO like is that they made her being a robot more obvious and "accepted" (for a lack of better words) and just calling her a weird old young woman or something 😭 It makes the scenes of her thinking about how much time she has in the world settle a little longer, which I like
Any new upcoming series with w/w?
Lol, I had a whole answer typed up and almost completed last night, I could only remember a few upcoming shows but added a bunch of ongoing and recent with descriptions and then the post editor hiccuped and removed most of it so I angrily went to sleep instead.
But maybe that was for the best, because this morning a video of upcoming f/f shows in April came out so now I can add a few more.
There's Dead Ringers, that show with Rachel Weisz playing twin gynecologists and since it's a genderbent adaptation of an existing movie we already know it's gonna be super messy. It would be pretty wild for Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies to not have some wlw and luckily it does, the trailer itself reveals a couple. Tiny Beautiful Things, with Kathryn Hahn and Sarah Pidgeon (Leah in The Wilds) playing her younger self, apparently Kathryn Hahn's character's daughter is queer. Slip is a kinda scifi, where a bored wife cheats on her husband and realizes every time she has sex with someone, she wakes up married to them. The show's about her trying to get back to her original life, and there are a series of different husbands, but also a few wives (also, the first "replacement" husband is played by Boorman's actor from Willow!). There are also the upcoming Thai dramas Be Mine, Reverse 4 You, and 23.5, as previously mentioned.
In terms of returning series coming back, there's the Disney cartoon The Owl House, getting its final ep. Single Drunk Female's second season is returning soon. It has a bi lead, and she did have a female love interest but it was pretty temporary compared to the will they/won't she has with the main character male love interest. Her Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor, also a very main character, is a lesbian, and she's married but her wife's actress is a regular on another show now so I dunno if she'll be back.
Welcome to Eden, a Spanish thriller about people trapped on an island with a cult, ended the first season on a major cliffhanger so it'll be exciting to see what happens now, though it feels like anyone could die so that's a bit nerve-wracking. It has a lot of different kinds of rep, f/f, m/m, trans, one of the gay guys is deaf too and it's a plot point that his boyfriend won't learn sign even though his friends have.
The Epix series From is a pretty well done horror series about people trapped in a town and who get hunted at night, it's more ominous and suspenseful than outright gory. It actually has three wlw, though one is mostly with one guy, the one who's engaged to a woman outside the town seems to be about to start a romance with another guy, and one is a teen who's crushing on the first woman, feels unrequited. I didn't know about any of them when I started, so they're a bonus, the show itself is rather compelling.
As for current shows, The Power (lol, get it, current) started last night on Prime, it's nice that after the misreading of Class of '07, this new show about girls does immediately have a wlw. Gap's already finished but it made such a splash, if you haven't watched, I'll mention it again. The other Thai drama, Show Me Love, is still airing. Fantasy Island is honestly kind of sweet, it feels like one of those '90s shows, episodic, bright colors and optimism, and great guest stars. One of the two leads, I'd say, or at least the second billed main, is queer.
We got our three firefighter shows, 9-1-1 with a solid (now) established relationship, Fire Country, a lesbian character but not much screentime, and of course Station 19, which is honestly winning me back in a huge way with their current storyline (if they land it).
Cop wlw update (why are there so many of them!): NCIS Hawai'i remains super cute, especially when Lucy is on, looks like Ayanna on Law & Order: Organized Crime got herself a new gf with a super hot voice, The Rookie: Feds still has Niecy Nash playing a super likable and bi lead. I couldn't stand the egregious copaganda in FBI: Most Wanted, and like, imagine how bad it'd have to be, when I can still watch all the rest of these shows, but Sheryll's still there, so. Sin Huellas (No Traces) has already finished but gets another mention for being as funny as it was, with a cute, hot couple at the center. Rabbit Hole's just started, but the initial antagonist/probable grudging ally's an FBI lady who within the first 10 minutes of the first ep dropped that she had a wife. Van der Valk has started its third season and though I'm gonna keep hoping Lucienne's INCREDIBLY hot ex from 2x03 returns, Lucienne, second billed, is plenty hot by herself. Ariana Guerra, who played the novitiate in Helstrom, has joined the second season of CSI: Vegas. Her character's bi and has a main character boyfriend but he seems like he'll most likely end up with a different character.
I'm not really going through these in any particular order, except combining the above two types, but let me just blow through the rest of the ongoing shows: the Canadian family comedy Run the Burbs has been quite sweet in how it's written the teen daughter, How I Met Your Father comes across as an old fashioned sitcom, except one of the characters is a lesbian. It's kind of fun in its familiarity and low stakes. I didn't expect to be as drawn into The Watchful Eye as I did, the trailer felt quite soapy and it was, at times, but all the nannies were great, and I ended up quite liking the f/f side couple. It's amazing what actual personalities can do. :o A Million Little Things is winding down its final season and Grace Park's character is engaged to Cameron Esposito's character so it feels pretty endgame at this point.
If you didn't watch or stopped watching Carnival Row because the main m/f relationship seemed so especially trite, you maaaay want to give it another look. I'm not nearly caught up with Bel-Air, but in the first season they wrote Ashley's sexuality really well, especially since she's so young. I'm sure you can't have missed my Perry Mason gifsets by now, but I can only reiterate what a great character Della Street is. One of the kids in Gotham Knights is bi (and her brother is trans!) but I'm not sure it's worth getting invested before cancellation. Unless the CW is only going to keep projects involving the Supernatural trio?
At this point, hoping everyone who's into wlw has at least tried Yellowjackets or is aware enough of it to know they don't want to try it. Las Pelotaris 1926 is a Spanish language historical drama about female athletes playing--well, the sport is basque pelota but if you need a reference point, it's like squash or racquetball. If you haven't yet caught up with RWBY, now would be an okay time. Lastly, I've still never watched any of Riverdale or even Choni clips, but its final season has just started and you know, I gotta respect the longevity of whatever they've been doing with them, however up and down they seem to have been, and perhaps this final season will be an up. From what I've seen on SM, they seem to get endgame soulmatey treatment more than any of the other ships and I can respect that.
Aside from the Thai dramas that might air after April and a few of the other shows that ended their seasons in March (or February in Gap's case), all of these have eps airing this month. After this year of cancellations, I think it's worth enjoying what we can, even as we acknowledge how much lead/main character rep and longevity we're losing. :o
There is an opinion that Chenford appeared under the influence of the audience. If I remember correctly, the showrunner once said that Lucy and Tim would not be a couple, that Chanford's popularity came as a surprise to them.
It seems to me, if not Plan A, then Chanford was plan B. The creators in the first series placed a morally broken man (a drug addict wife was prescribed to the character right away, perhaps a tyrant father too) and an empathic woman (her character was also prescribed one way or another initially) in a confined space (a police car). I don't know…
What do you think about this?
Full discloser : while I started watching the show around the time Day of Death aired, I wasn't particularly paying attention to the behind the scenes and interviews at the time. So this is probably going to influence my answer in one way or another.
You remember correctly though : Chenford was not originally planned. Here's what Alexi Hawley (showrunner) said on the subject - and I think this touches on the second part of your ask : "Tim was always designed to be a character who was much more complicated than he seemed, and Lucy was always designed to be a really strong, empathetic character, but I think [what we’ve seen] is the magic of chemistry that happens that you just can’t know when you’re writing a pilot." (source)
What really started Chenford was Eric and Melissa's chemistry… Backed by the writing and the actors' understanding of their characters. To me, it was clear that Tim and Lucy were always meant to share a special relationship for the points you covered, romance or not - which, by the way, doesn't lessen the beauty of their story in my eyes. They were always going to be the most important person in each other's lives. Bring the best in each other. Their dynamic was developed with so much love and care, with so many beautiful and emotional scenes and this, from the very beginning… Alexi himself wrote some of their key moments : their meeting, the quarantine house, Tim turning down his promotion for Lucy… to name just a few of the very early ones. But the romantic undertones? That was mostly the actors' doing, probably not even intentionally at first. And that combination, that magic, is what caught the eyes of so many, I believe.
The other thing Alexi said at the time (s3), was that Chenford would never happen, since Lucy was Tim's rookie : "Tim would never cross that line. She’s his rookie and he would never even consider crossing that line. So while I’m obviously aware that there’s a big ‘shipping there, and I appreciate any kind of passion about the show, that’s a huge line [to cross]. […] We’d be hypocrites [to write a Lucy/Tim romance] because we made it very clear in those first four or five episodes that female officers unfairly get tagged if they sleep with cops, and it’s why Nolan and Lucy couldn’t be together — and ultimately I think that was the right move. I mean, he was on the rebound from a 20-year marriage and she was 20 years his junior, and so it worked out the way it was supposed to, but if we turned around and threw [Lucy and Tim] together, that would be somewhat hypocritical.”
Now I remember reading many times that Lucy x Nolan was supposed to be endgame, but I never found any official interview : by the time I started the show, that idea was entirely buried so that may be why… But if it was the original plan, I applaud Alexi for adapting so swiftly without insulting the audience for forcing his hand. Some showrunners should take notes.
In any case, this is where this idea that he was opposed to Chenford started - at least, to my knowledge, there were probably other interviews. But in this one, this isn't exactly what he's saying. The context is very important, and unfortunately, was often forgotten in the various articles that derived over the years from his original interview. Lucy was still Tim's rookie and this is the line he is talking about. For reference, even Eric, who was already the captain of the ship, agreed with this (back in the beginning of s2) : "It’s something that Bradford would never organically do, being a superior to her." (source) (in all fairness, it does say later in the same interview that he doesn't rule it out either). And honestly… I agree with them. I enjoy reading fanfics that explore this alternative, but in the show, I'm really glad that they waited. Power dynamics are a real thing, so I appreciate that it was not just swept under the rug. And the writers unwittingly backed themselves in a corner with the reason used to break up Lucy and Nolan. They needed to explore Tim and Lucy's dynamic further first, unravel everything and wait for her to graduate. To get her to a place where she no longer cares what others might think.
But I don't believe Alexi was completely against Chenford at all : again, he wrote so many romantic moments… Case in point : the interview is from s3 and yet, he was behind that 'Save me a dance' scene… So clearly, he already had a vision for them, no matter what he was saying on the record. I personally always take these interviews with a grain of salt because the writers/actors are basically told by the different publicists/PR the main points they should address.
Now the audience probably influenced his decision, yes… The way the network made sure to bait the fans made it clear that, at the very least, they knew where to focus in the marketing department. But I don't think that was the only factor. So many shows have very strong fandom, and yet they never go further than baiting. That's actually the usual MO : bait but don't commit, since so many networks are still afraid of that infamous 'Moonlighting' curse (even though it is getting better nowadays). Abc is no exception.
At the end of the day, regardless of what was said in interviews, the showrunner and the writers still created these wonderful characters and developed this relationship in a loving manner… That's the thing that matters to me. So even if it wasn't his idea, even if he was completely against it, he at least listened to his team, to the actors, letting them improvise and even rewrite some parts. And that's actually how it should be done even if, unfortunately, this is far from the norm. I may not agree with every decisions he has made, but in that regard, I respect him for doing much better than many of his counterparts. However, I realise that this is also easy for me to say this since I'm sure I missed a lot of dramas in-between… That might have changed my perception. I hope this answers your question :)
Hello this is basically a long post about me sorting through my feelings about bad buddy and why it means so much to me.
So over the past few weeks ( i first watched the show 7 weeks ago) ive been trying to figure out what exactly about bad buddy and patpran in particular have got me so inexplicably fond and devoted to them and apart from the usual answers of great writing, directing, performances and the best most electric chemistry and banter known to humankind, i did arrive at couple of other answers too.
First of all pat and (especially) pran are deep and well rounded characters.
Tumblr media
Their worlds feel lived in and real.
Their feelings and thoughts and motivations are of course excellently portrayed by both ohm and nanon. and they gave representation to queer people everywhere. pat being the pan/ bi king he is and pran being the gayest babyboy warrior poet ever. pran especially given his repressed nature and emotional closed-off-ness is somebody a lot of people surely saw themselves in, including myself. seeing myself represented like that starting off the way he is and then taking small steps one by one over the course of the whole show (and over years in the show's universe) to arrive at the more assured, more open, more ready to be vulnerable (but still very much the pran we all loved in the first episode itself) was so wonderful to see.
Tumblr media
The fact that the show happens in a non homophobic universe doesnt take away from just how special it was seeing queer characters fall, be and stay in love. and most importantly that they got their happy ending (i wont be hearing anything against this cos the ending was happy, despite the slightly bittersweet tinge of it, it was happy and there shall be no counter arguments begone i cant with that)
Tumblr media
That episode 12 gave a glimpse of their future.
A world where pat will one day be able to sit with pran in his house eating food made by dissaya. that pran and pat's mom work on a common hobby together cos why not. a world where they no longer have to hide, a world were they could well and truly thrive.
Its so so important as queer people that we get representation and that in a world that is often cruel to the likes of us especially here in asia, that we see happy adult queer lives, where they can be in love in the most mundane of ways.
Tumblr media
Patpran and bad buddy gave us that and i will forever be thankful for it.
That still doesn't capture exactly why i rate them as a couple so so highly in my head.
So i thought of patpran in the context of all the other love stories i could possibly remember watching. i thought of some of my top favourite couples - mondler, phil & claire, schmidt & cece, peraltiago, leslie & ben, jack & rebecca, randall & beth, simon & wilhelm, jaeyong & sangwoo, ji hyun & jaewon, bai lang & xun an, tara & darcy, sumi & rimjhim and so so many more and what stood out for me when it came to patpran was that they were the one couple out of all these couples i adore who didnt let anything get between them once they got together.
Tumblr media
Every other couple among the ones ive listed have had jobs or other relationships or distance or parents or workplace rules /etiquette or circumstances or the royalty standing in between their love and as a result causing the couple to break apart ( a couple of episodes for mondler to seasons of confusion for peraltiago and schmidt & cece etc) even if briefly.
Except for phil & claire (who btw wasnt even sure about marrying phil when she did) almost none of these couples got together and stayed together throughout their relationship. and yes i agree that a lot of these obstacles and circumstances are very real and taxing and no wonder people chose their own peace at least for a while to deal with everything BUT i just cant help feel more appreciative of pat pran even more cos these two 19 year olds figured this whole thing out faster than any of those full grown adults did.
Tumblr media
And yes its fictional and maybe even unrealistic (given the kind of relationships i see irl) yet patpran really do deserve all the love they get. they do deserve a lot of props.
Its not like they didn't have adverse obstacles standing in their way, they had to fight against their families years and years of lies and all the intergenerational trauma and their faculty rivalry and a shitty friend who outed them and any single one of these should have caused at least 12 episodes worth of conflict and miscommunication in any other couple.
And yes i do recognise that bbs didnt have the luxury of time or multiple seasons but they could have kept them apart for a whole episode at least, i was convinced we were in for that at the end of episode 8 as the aftermath of wai outing them. like there is no way the relationship comes out of it unscathed ( i thought! ). and while im sure they personally were rattled and betrayed (pran more so), instead of blaming anybody else or each other they actually chose to handle it together, they worked together and chose to move forward together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fact that such a terrible experience instead of breaking them apart actually reaffirmed to both pat and pran just how much their relationship means to the both of them, that they come out of it actually stronger??
Tumblr media
i was friggin shook to my core.
And then came the gunshots and the family finding out and the running away and the coming back and the fake breakup and the pressures of all of this should have been enough to drive a serious wedge between any two characters, especially at their age and lack of experience. and yet??? and yet at each obstacle they get up, they draw the other closer and they get down to working on it together again.
Over and over and over and over again.
So for me what separates patpran from everybody else is the fact that ever since they got together, they have chosen eo, intentionally, that has made the difference.
Pat and pran's story may have been destined ( i personally don't know if i believe in destiny). they may have been born neighbours and felt unexplainable intense feelings (that later turned to love) for the other but when it came down to it, at its core, bad buddy soars when the two come together and they choose to keep being together, despite everything that stands in their way.
Love is a choice. love is a sacrifice. but its also a sacrifice and a choice they made for themselves and for each other and above all for their relationship.
Almost all the couples mentioned above arrive at similar destinations but they arrive at it with years of experience and years of struggle. i just cant help marvel at our teenagers who did love better than whole ass adults double their age could.
Tumblr media
And more importantly above the awe i feel inspired and hopeful because they showed me that there's always a choice. thats there's always another option. you dont need to get out of your comfort zone. but you also dont need to be in the comfort zone always. you dont need to keep lying to yourself. you dont need to hide every single part of you. there are always other options. there is always a choice.
That hope is not just a noun its also very much a verb. That you and i and each one of us can make that choice.
That if ever i choose to partner up with someone and if we do proper healthy communication (patpran invented healthy communication and consent btw, they deserve EVERYTHING for just that but thats a whole other post) prioritizing the relationship where it mattered, i too could have something ( even remotely) like their love.
Tumblr media
For the first time in my life probably i felt like that kind of love was attainable for me if i wanted to pursue it. They gave me hope. and they gave me joy. and i will never not be unbelievably grateful for it.
One thing I hated about the spring was the weird in between weather we got. It was too warm to snow and not cold enough for the rain droplets to form into ice. The past week had been nothing but rain, all day everyday it rained. I was never one for the rain, it was cold, it was wet and it was miserable. Y/n loved the rain, she loved the way it felt on her skin, the way it smelt, the way it sounded as it hit the roof she adored it. So it made me happy when I saw how happy Y/n was with the rain.
Sometimes I worried about her, she was one of those people that were always so happy and kind to others but you knew deep down inside something was wrong. I knew she had depression and anxiety, I knew she had sleep problems but she always hid it from the rest of the world. I was one of the few fortunate people to know of this. I remember when I met her for the first time when I joined AEW, she was a writer for the show. I remember thinking she was a bit young for such a professional job but she was quick to show that her age didn’t define her skills. The ideas she came up with, the creativity she had was truly amazing. Maybe that’s why I fell in love with her.
I knew it would be scandalous, people would talk. How would you feel knowing that the two of us shared a 22 year age gap as she was 28 and I was 50. I knew how wrong it was, I knew I was too old for her but she was unlike anyone I had ever met before. We didn’t need to have a romantic relationship per say but I needed to get to know her, I had to know every detail about her. Somewhere along the line we fell in love and here we are, together in our shared home enjoying the rain on a miserable Tuesday night.
I could tell something was up from the moment Y/n and I returned from last week's episode of Dynamite. I offered for the two of us to go on a mini vacation since there was no Collision this week but Y/n claimed she had to get work done for Revolution. That was fine, I knew she had a lot of work but sometimes I worried that she was doing too much. Y/n had all her paperwork spread out on our large dining room table as she sat working on her computer and sorting paperwork all day. She would have the fireplace on for warmth and had the calming rain in the background as she worked nonstop. It got to the point where she was up before I was and went to bed after me. Some nights I don’t even think she went to bed. Tonight was no different, as I twisted and turned in my sleep I rolled over and felt the familiar empty cold spot next to me. I checked the time and it was around 3am, how is she still up? As I slowly crept down the stairs I assumed Y/n would be in the kitchen still working but when I checked she wasn’t there. I searched the house and was starting to get scared when I couldn't find her.
Just then I noticed a pile of blankets sitting on the window sill. “What’s wrong honey?” I asked Y/n gently as I carefully sat next to her. “I can’t sleep” “Why don’t you come up to bed and just lie down” “I can’t” “Why not honey? What’s the matter?” I knew not to push too hard in this situation but In order for me to help her I needed more details. I noticed the open computer and knew that this was due to all the stress she was under. “How can I help? Tell me what I can do to help you. I need to know what’s wrong in order to help you!” “I just can’t” “Can’t what honey?” “I can’t do this. I’m so tired but I can’t sleep, I have so much work and everytime I finish one thing five more new things show up” Y/n was now facing me and I could tell how tired she really was. Poor thing looked exhausted and I knew with Revolution being two weeks away this would only get worse.
“Do you want me to talk to TK-” “NO!, no ...sorry, I shouldn't have said anything Christian. I’m sorry I woke you up. It’s nothing really…I…” “Don’t ever apologize alright. That’s what I’m here for Y/n. I don’t care if you wake me up at 1am or 3am, I will be there for you during every sleepless night alright. I love you so much, I can’t even explain it. You are the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I promise you I will be there for you for every second of it okay?” I noticed a few tears fall from Y/n’s face and I was quick to wipe them away. “You alright?” I asked her “I’m just so tired” I hated seeing Y/n like this but unfortunately this is part of the job. “I know baby, I know. Let’s go to bed” “Can you carry me?” How could I say no to that? I carefully carried Y/n upstairs before tucking her securely under the sheets. I held her close as I waited for her to fall asleep before even attempting to fall asleep myself. “Thank you Christian” “Anytime my love, now get some rest. We have a flight tomorrow”
