DEAR SANTA
Yes, it's been a long year. A lot of things happened… stuff changed, and new things came in to play.
This year I've actually GOT a few things I would appreciate you helping me obtain:
A New Graphics Card: I can't tell you how difficult it is to play some of my more recent games without it.
And while it might be easier to just save up and buy a new game console, let me tell you… I've BEEN through the struggles of that… and I'd rather keep my freedom of choice, you know? All of these exclusive titles and subscription fees give me a headache some days.
Don't get me wrong… I'm pretty patient. Even if Final Fantasy XVI (that's 16 if you hate roman numerals) ends up taking YEARS to come to PC… I'll wait. It'll be worth it, even.
For that matter, I still haven't beaten Star Ocean: Divine Force yet, which I plan to do once I get 'said' Graphics Card, Sonic Frontiers included.
I still play Stranger of Paradise too, but it'd be great to have a better Graphics Card to handle that title as well.
So much I want to do, get, finish, and share with my friends if I can manage it.
And while I do have a rather extensive Steam Wishlist… well, a lot of games aren't even out yet, so I can wait on those.
I think the biggest things I want right now are for mod patch updates to better expand content on the games I already have.
I think GGStrive modders somewhat know what I'm talking about, but March can't get here soon enough!
I would also like a classic version of Sin's OATH flag for Strive as a mod… but who knows when THAT will be made (if at all).
I could also use some new T-shirts and Guilty Gear merchandise… if you could hook me up with that as well…
I feel like I've been falling behind on the necessities and engaging aspects of being a Guilty Gear fan.
Better yet still, I feel like I need more Manga and Magazines to read (and maybe a Girlfriend to hang out with too).
If I'm naughty, I'm sure plenty of people will let me know… but, if I've been "nice"… let me know that too… I could use the encouragement.
Just… make sure the staff and developers of ARC System Works and Square Enix (and Electronic Arts, Konami, and FromSoftware) KNOW that we want something GOOD next year… that's all I really want.
Less exclusivity, more fun… less esports, more extra modes and customization. That's all, really.
The more freedom games give me, the more I can express myself and my dreams…
And hey, a sequel to Code Vein also wouldn't hurt.
Take care, Santa… stay warm and don't dive down any unused Chimneys, nowadays people use floor heating…
----Your Pal, Gear-Project (well, you know my real name anyway)…
P.S. I wouldn't mind Rumble Fish 2 or DNF Duel as a quick gift if you don't mind!

Your reply to my long ask was so sweet ❤️
I met my very best friends online. My best best best friend and I have been friends for ten years now, and we love each other to bits! It's unlikely we will ever meet, as he's in Australia and i'm in France, but our friendship isn't any different from an IRL friendship. Yes, we can't meet up to hang out, but we've know each other since we were stupid teenagers, we've had 9 hour skype calls where we would do our own thing but just be in each other's company, we send each other gifts and know each other's secrets. We supported each other against terribly family members. Meeting online doesn't matter, a bond is still a bond! Your friends are real friends, no matter how you met.
The taking your time thing reminded me of something. My favourite youtuber is french, and he has the most loyal, stable and supportive community i have ever seen in his 11 years on youtube. You never, ever see a "I preferred the old joueur du grenier" comments, because he has a very distinct schedule that gives him the ability to stay creative and keep doing videos as a hobby.
He only uploads a video about once a month, and he takes a two month break in the summer where he doesn't even touch video making (except if he feels inspired). With fan support, his videos have gone from less than ten minutes to pushing 40, with more actors, higher budgets, better equipment and more extravagant scenarios (they rented an entire castle and hundreds of actors for at least two videos) and the quality has never done anything but go up.
That way, despite 11 years on the platform, his content is always hilarious, original, very well made and always the best it can possibly be. Making daily videos for the algorithm (or weekly, back in the day) is what causes quality to plummet to the ground.
By trusting his community, Joueur du grenier allows himself to take the time he needs to make content he believes his fans will enjoy. That's why, even if he misses a month, you won't see people in his comment section get mad. Actually most people will be saying they were happy to wait, since it meant a high quality video.
I see similar reactions in your community, although on a smaller scale. People love your cc and the effort you put into it, and making quality takes time, and when you have a solid community that understands that, you have a community that will never abandon you, even if you take a break.
It was a good decision to not paywall or go with early access. I think it teaches people to be patient, and therefore be happy to wait for a modder to go on break.
Thank you so much anon. ❤️
I remind myself all the time that I don't have to rush through things. or if I take a break my followers will understand. Not because I feel pressured to create but because I do go through bouts of depression or anxiety where it gets hard for me to even get out of bed or do anything more than stare at the tv while some inane netflix show is playing. I try to be as transparent as possible with all my followers and going forward I think it'll only benifit me in the end.

I was as skeptical as anyone when the news showed up that the next Arma 3 expansion was going to be about aliens. 'Oh no,' I thought, 'this always goes badly.' And while the game's latest content pack, Contact, winds up being a fun kind of X-Files diversion into what can happen in single player, it's of limited use to anyone who thinks about Arma as a war simulator.
Look: I'll save you the trouble of reading the rest of this review. If you're hoping for weird alien technology that you can work into your warfighting scenarios, this package doesn't have it. For the purposes of general Arma play, what you get with this is basically a couple of robots, and that's about it. When we work this piece of DLC into our master list of 'Arma Stuff You Must Have,'Contact will rank very near the bottom. That being said, I liked this campaign a lot. Contact shows Bohemia and its partners at their most creative, although as ever this weird scenario does come down to a cold war popping off hot in a small regional area that is, strangely enough, cut off from the rest of the world's communications.
Here's the gist: You are Spc. Aiden Rudwell, a linguist-turned-drone operator on a field exercise near the Russian border in a fictional state called Livonia. You're in some comms unit working with local Livonian partners on a combined arms exercise that's definitely not supposed to annoy anyone on the other side of the wire.
Quickly things go pear shaped, thanks in no small part to a PFC you're friends with who was already on latrine duty and has global conspiracy theories on the brain. A routine drone training exercise results in an armed bomb landing within walking distance of your lookout point and, well, guess who gets to check it out?
This all takes place so you can get acquainted with your first bit of new equipment: There's the drone, yes, but what you'll be married to for this entire exercise is the Spectrum Device: A tool that can jam radio, pick up radio signals, and work out where those signals are coming from.
As the campaign progresses, you'll use the Spectrum Device to send spoof missions to enemy command and work out where enemy squads are working. It's not a bad piece of kit, on paper - you can spot-jam enemy communications - but it feels like you're carrying out the most basic of tasks.
Indeed, the campaign has you use this piece of equipment over and over - mainly to make sure the people at an area you want to go to aren't there when you get there. And that's all fine. But even when you get a new antenna for it that lets you 'communicate' with extraterrestrials, its use is strictly limited by the script of the story. Within that story, there are some admittedly clever bits, I should say. Using a recorded 'move left' order from Livonian command on an enemy (look, it's complicated) squad prowling out in the woods at night feels very Cold War Kids, at least once I worked out what it was the game wanted me to do.
Tumblr media
The other headline piece of tech that comes with this expansion is the ED-1 UGV, which is a tracked R/C car with an armature, probe, and camera on it. As you might expect, it's a fun little toy to mess around with at first, but it's only useful within the bounds of the story missions Contact sets up for it. Even then, what you're ultimately doing with it most of the time is 'go to location A to poke thing B.'
You could uncharitably say that about most Arma objectives, sure. And it's what Contact does to layer meaning onto those simple tasks that makes it a fun X-Files style diversion. It feels fresh, mostly because instead of shooting things most of the time you're waving a radio antenna around in the woods, trying not to get spotted. The missions open up a bit in the middle acts, and you can choose which order you want to take on objectives, but narratively they all boil down to a core of well-meaning military officers and scientists trusting the future of humanity to an E-4 and his ability to make his way through the woods with a radio jammer. Having spent some time as an E-4 myself, I don't like our odds.
Contact has some truly standout moments baked into the campaign (which I won't spoil), and you've certainly never seen in Arma before. Alien tech makes certain things spookily hover just above the ground sometimes, and the scenario writers were smart enough to keep the actual aliens themselves hidden from you. The rest relies on scary noises and lights in the woods combined with what your own brain makes up for the majority of its runtime. But as diverting as those moments are, it doesn't change the fact that the storyline is a bit hamfisted, and at best might have made for a middling two-episode X-Files arc. That's enough to keep me entertained for a few hours, and I suspect the same is true for quite a few Arma players. Thankfully the payoff, when you get it, is pretty grand.
Arma 3 Contact Communicate With Alien Entity Search
However, that's not near enough to put this on any list of truly ‘essential’ Arma DLC, particularly when you realize that the hardware it introduces is effectively useless outside that scripted story campaign. The Spectrum Device is literally unusable anywhere outside Contact's story missions, and the UGV it brings in is effectively the same - unless modders want to start adding 'probe material at location X,Y' to their list of missions in Arma's sandbox.
A couple other notes worth mentioning: Contact brings with it a new landmass, Livonia, and that's certainly interesting enough. It's some hilly woodland featuring a radar base and steep terrain - it's nothing particularly dramatic, but it's certainly more land on which to do Arma things. I was, however, disappointed to find that Contact seemed to make Arma 3 perform even worse on recommended settings than it had before, and this was after I had installed a brand new RTX 2070 Super graphics card in my PC. This is a game that's feeling its age.
All that said, I hope it's pretty clear where Contact lands in the panoply of Arma 3 add-on content. From a wargamer's perspective it's probably the least essential piece of DLC Bohemia has ever put out for the game. But it's an entertaining and, by Arma standards, unique story experience that's worth playing through once, and that bit at least is characterized by Bohemia's pleasingly authentic ear for military dialogue and characters, even if it can be a bit uneven and cartoony at times.
But Contact is also Arma 3's most expensive piece of DLC, with a price tag that's higher than the massive and game-changing Apex expansion. Contact, sadly, makes almost no impact on the broader game and even at its highest moments never really justifies itself. It's a fun little story, and that's it - unlike almost any other piece of DLC, it doesn't make Arma 3 itself more interesting at all.

Hi! I'm sorry to see that your work is going unappreciated. I'm the person that's running the meamodder account, and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to help,or perhaps something I'm doing or not doing that's not helping this situation. If there's anything that could help in any way, please let me know. So far I can only think amazing things of the work you have contributed to the MEA modding community both in mods, tutorials and references, so thank you for all that help :)
Oh no dear. It isn’t you. I’m sorry your feeling like that. If it were you, you’d know. Trust me.
First, thank you for the kind words
I graduated in Game Design. It’s what I want to do. Truly. But it was a painful experience at the same time. With some teachers that always answered “go to youtube”, when we are paying THEM to teach the basics at least. Mod authors like @ottemis and @elementa1st are what kept me going. And many more, like @guidethisonekalahira, still manage to keep me going. I learned SO MUCH MORE from them than in any classroom. But I still understand what Game Developers go through. Scratch that. I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like. But I can say that it was a difficult moment. I can assure you they fought each other; Ideas were discarded; Errors happened (and will still happen). So it’s painful sometimes to see people trash a game because what they want wasn’t there. Because it isn’t “part of the series”. “It’s not a Mass Effect game” for instance. Comments like that really hurt both us and the Game Developers.
While I always love and appreciate the work Mod Authors do, it has come to my attention (for a while actually) that most of the community thinks that Mod Authors have the obligation to “make the game better” or “fix the mistakes”. I’m just going to say that I, munchyfly, DO NOT have the obligation to do ANYTHING. I am not being paid. This is out of my free time because I want to be a better person and help people as much I can.
That being said, I also think that people should always try on they’re own sometimes. I ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS, go through tutorials etc. BEFORE asking questions. I try to be as clear as possible. “Tool doesn’t work” doesn’t mean anything. When we ask what’s happening, the user just shoves off, as if we need to know exactly what kind of error is occurring. Help goes both ways. I have specifically put in every post I make on my website to read my Terms Of Use before doing anything else. No one has respected that: my reference sheets are being linked directly. When reporting errors? “Mod doesn’t work”. I put all that information there because it’ll help both the user and myself. I’m not trying to ignore you. But I’m not the Oracle of Delphi. I don’t know everything. I wasn’t born knowing everything. I’m new to the modding scene myself.
I guess I’m more mad at the fact that people aren’t patient. They can’t wait for more in-depth instructions. Heck, maybe that goddamned group doesn’t appreciate me because I’m not an “expert modder”. Because I don’t know everything there is to know.
These tutorials? Sheets? I am taking them seriously. Because that’s what a Game Development Team. I’m alone on the content I’m providing because I have the luxury (for now) of using all of my time to produce near-to-high-quality information. I make mistakes as well. My god, I found stuff in 5 seconds. Trust me: if I found it in 5 seconds, you can too. Try it out. We won’t we around all the time. Heck, there were people asking for a spreadsheet on the weapons 2 hours after the patch came out. In all honesty, I could simply drop everything and leave it as it is. Maybe then people will try it out themselves, instead of complaining that this should have been done long before they asked. I am here to share with people that helped get through 5 years of pain and anger. Anger to the point that I couldn’t look at a video game.
I am one person. This is done out of my free time for people who have differences but have one thing in common: the love for the game. If you can’t wait, either play something else or do it yourself. I’m not here to please you. Nor to be your maid. I’m not getting paid and would never ask to be. Don’t like what I make? That’s your right. So go use something else then.
Damn what a huge answer lol

Weekly News Around the community Score Watch
A makeover for our website-in-progress has arrived! Though it's more likely we’ll have more people naturally appreciating it’s full glory when we replace the old website, you can check it out right now by logging out. This story and much more came from peppy’s development blog (which also happens to have a massive new button on the new landing page). If you want to get the scoops straight from the horse’s mouth, you should follow that blog closely. We’ve been slowing down since last week’s near daily updates, but there’s still plenty of content to dig in on every week!
Pippi greets our visitors with a smile and the promise of taking over the world
An interesting new “mapper subscription” service has popped up in the form of a discord bot! It seems to still be in the early stages of development, but already sees a surge of users much like the number of people who requested it to be in the main game. While it is still a planned feature for the main site eventually, you can go follow all your favorite mappers right now while we work out the road map for everything that has yet to come.
Voting for this season’s osu!fan-art contest is now closed! Just a look at the fantastic submissions we’ve had this time tells me that we had one of the most successful fanart contests yet. If you’ve been waiting patiently for the results to arrive, you will likely not have to wait much longer. A little birdie told me that the results are coming very soon, so keep your eyes out for the post!
Just a reminder to everyone that there has in fact been a change to how the ranking process works. The beatmap nomination group has been split up into two tiers, with each tier being able to perform different tasks to help your map through the ranking system. For information on how and what’s changed, as well as a full list of tiered BNs, please refer to the thread.
The osu!standard community mentorship program is at the start of a new cycle! This means that between the 23rd of april and the 5th of May, experienced mappers/modders can apply to be mentors in the upcoming round. For those who want to apply as a mentee, you’re gonna have to wait just a little longer when pupil applications open up on the 7th of May. The mentorship program is a great opportunity for new mappers to get further ahead in the game with the expert guidance of a much more experienced member of the community. I recommend anyone who has the initiative to learn and become better to check it out!
The SOFT (Springtime osu!mania (4K) FFA Tournament) is ironically one of the HARDest tournaments osu! has ever seen, and it is nearing its conclusion! The grand finals of the everyone for themselves madness is set to go forward this weekend. Tune in Saturday 29 at 12 UTC and Sunday 30th at 11 UTC to see the finale of the unrated brawl that can only end with one man standing!
youtube
Maybe they should make a spinoff titled the osu!HARD tournament and have players eat cement blocks
Registrations are open for the osu!mania PH Summer Tournament! This time, they seem to be going to also host a 7K tournament in addition to the 4K tournament they normally do. In line with its namesake, for once, this tournament is only open to those who wear the Philippine flag on their profile.
One of our players discovered that a pretty important aspect of (over)streaming has changed! A pretty big change was made to the way streams can be hit in the event of a miss. In the past, missing in the middle of the stream meant there was no way to recover the next note. While this change is reflected in a version of the game that is very much a work in progress, it seems like a pretty solid improvement on what we have right now. What do you guys think?
youtube
pishifat posted what I personally consider a fairly important video on a little history of the way the ranking system came to be! It would be an understatement to say that the way we handle beatmap ranking has come a long way, and perhaps its current form might not be immediately intuitive. If you need a refresher on how the ranking process works, head over and check it out!
youtube
Cookiezi is still an unstoppable player in the current year as he pulls off a crazy HD 45 miss pass on a 10* map, Hige Driver join. SELEN - DADADADADADADADADADA (Long Version). You might wanna stick around for the entire video. It gets pretty insane.
youtube
Ekoro is certainly MADE OF FIRE as he secured an unbelievable 99.51% HDFL FC on Niko - Made of Fire, earning himself only 269pp, but this score will not match that number at all. Strap your pants on, you are in for a wild ride to 2009 mapping!
youtube
Might as well do it with eyes closed, v2fax pulled off an unbelievable 97.69% HDHR FC on LeaF - Wizdomiot to give himself 425pp. This is something else for the 19th placed Japanese.
youtube
inteliser made it big time again as he completed an amazing SS run on UNDEAD CORPORATION - The Empress scream off ver on Jepetski’s Empress to earn himself 492pp and the No. 1 spot. An amazing score that may take a while to get beaten as no one has gotten an SS yet! Check it out straight from inteliser’s channel!
youtube
NOTABLE MENTIONS
Rafis finally gets some of that sweet pp goodness from an amazing 99.30% HDDT FC play on TrySail & TRUE - High Free Spirits vs. DREAM SOLISTER on Pentark’s Extra, giving him 630pp.
More FL plays! Mawksee pulled off a stunning 97.30% HDHRFL FC on Girl's Day - Ring My Bell on the Insane difficulty to give him a mere 137pp.
Rohulk forgot how to get low accuracy and stunned people with a crazy 99.80% HDHR FC on Camellia - dreamless wanderer to earn himself 359pp and the No. 1 spot.
SCOREWATCH SCORE SHOW
This week, we take a look at _yu68 and shinchikuhome as they take their limits and break it on The Limit Does Not Exist. Have a watch!

An interesting time indeed! You may have noticed that for now, the tournament section is merged with the news. This is because the tournament corner is undergoing a revamp to make sure it can bring you updates with tournaments every week, no matter what! As a result, the format will be changed and for now, special tournaments get their own place in the weekly news. If you have anything you’d like to share with us for inclusion with our publication, drop by the osu!dev discord and highlight me for my attention! We’re always looking to broaden our horizons with your stories and scoops, so don’t be shy and say hello!
