Frustration
mat barzal x model!fem!reader
a visceral in doses blurb
warnings: slight angst, bickering, cursing, frustration
Tumblr media
“You can drop us off at Beau’s,” you muttered through the tense silence of the rental car.
“You’re not coming back with me to the hotel?” Mat asks, thrown off guard by your statement.
“Not when you’re like this,” you say.
“Like what? Losing games? It’s not really all in my control. It’s a team effort, you know?” He bites, words coming out in a harsh manner.
“No. I couldn’t give two shits if you guys lose, you can lose every single game, just as long as you do everything you can to try to win. It’s about you being so fucking moody,” you bite back, staring at the side of his face.
“Don’t curse in front of the kids,” he has the nerve to say.
You let out a scoff, your eyes wide in shock.
“Seriously? After you were all pissy and cursing as you were buckling them in. You can’t say shit to me, Mathew,” you finish, closing your eyes after moments of silence follow your words.
He had nothing to say.
He pulls up to Beau’s house, you quickly unbuckle yourself before settling your younger two in your arms.
“I’ll be back for Nolan,” you inform him.
Mat rests his head on the steering wheel, disappointed in himself. First, the islanders have not been doing well, and now he’s being a dick to his family. He slams his fist on the wheel, momentarily forgetting that Nolan is lightly asleep in the back.
The moment his wife opens the car door, he hears Nolan’s sniffles. He knew he messed up, once again.
“Have you not learned? Go back to the hotel and sleep off your anger. Hopefully tomorrow you won’t be so angry with the wrong people,” you whisper, no malice just stoic.
“Babe,” Mat calls out, his voice sounding watery and hurt.
You look at him and his pretty eyes that shine with unshed tears.
You turn away, walking back toward the house to put Nolan to bed. You shyly ask Beau to keep an ear out for them in case they wake up, telling him that you’ll be in the front consoling your husband.
When you walk back out, Mat’s head rests in his hands, his sniffles sound identical to Nolan’s.
You open up the driver’s door, bringing Mat’s attention to you. You rest a hand on the back of his neck, softly caressing the skin. He looks at you with a desperate glance. He needs you more than the need you have to be annoyed with him.
You wrap your free arm around his shoulders, bringing your forehead to rest on his. You crowd the minimal space he has in the driver’s seat.
He moves his face to bury it in the crook of your neck, and that’s when you start massaging his scalp.
“I’m sorry. I know I’m being an ass right now, I’m just so frustrated. It’s not an excuse, though, because I shouldn’t be taking it out on you or the kids. I made Nolan scared,” he says through a strangled cry.
You hug him tighter to your body. You could practically feel the regret roll off him in heavy waves.
“I should’ve handled things better, and not reciprocate the frustration. I love you, baby,” you whisper in his ear, your nose skimming the skin of his cheek.
“I don’t want to be that type of dad. I don’t want to make our kids feel like they can’t be around me,” he states, shaking his head like he can’t even fathom the thought of his kids not wanting to be around him.
“I know.” You continue to stroke his skin, feeling his shoulders slightly fall.
“Hockey has been a lot lately. I’m doing something wrong, we’re all doing something wrong. I just don’t know how much more I can take,” he whispers defeated.
“It’ll all work out. You guys will find your rhythm. I’m sorry the season isn’t going the way you planned, but I’m here for you. Don’t take your frustrations out on us because at the end of the day, win or lose, we’re always going to be your biggest fans,” you soothe him, kissing soft pecks on his neck up to his jaw.
“I don’t know what I did to deserve you and our family. I love you,” he cups your cheeks, pulling your lips to his.
“I love you, barzy. Now, I need you to come back into Beau’s house with me, so we can fall asleep together. You holding me and us holding our children,” you grab his hand and pull him out of the vehicle.
“Do you think Tito will be mad if we have sex in his guest bedroom?” He asks, pulling you back into his arms as you both walk towards the front door.
“Slow your roll, hotshot. We still got the kids with us,” you cackle.
“He has more than one guest room,” he adds, a cheesy smile on his face.
“In your wildest dreams, Barzal,” you pull away from him, walking backwards so you’re facing your husband.
“You’re my wildest dream, Barzal,” he states, catching up to you to pull you back into his arms. You lean up to kiss him, finally feeling like your husband is back to his happy self.
a/n: Enjoy!

jungprom | jungwon
This post was inspired by that one tumblr user whose bff forgot to ask her to prom. Since Jungwon is a literal baby this is just cute and fluffy. There is a kiss at the end but it reads like a Disney channel original movie. Also I know nothing about prom or dress shopping except for what I’ve seen in movies so sorry for any inaccuracies. Jungwon, as always, is the most precious lil bean. Jake and Sunoo feature and Sunoo goes full Tan France. Hope u enjoy!!
Tumblr media
You are staring at your phone, trying to decipher the text you just got from Jungwon.
“Hi! What color is your prom dress?
As far as you know, you are not going to prom. You never have been going to prom. You never even got asked to prom, you think to yourself, amused.
“I don’t have a prom dress,” you reply back. “Why do you ask?”
His reply is prompt. “Prom is this weekend, right? Why don’t you have a dress yet?”
“Because I’m not going?” you reply back, more confused than ever. “I didn’t get asked to prom.”
The typing signal appears -- Jungwon is texting back. “Did I forget to ask you” is all it says.
You gape at your phone. Pressing the call button, you hold it up to your ear, and Jungwon answers almost instantly.
“Uh, hi,” he says, his voice sheepish.
“Hi,” you say, trying to hold back a laugh. “You have some explaining to do.”
“So, I thought I had told you that I was planning on taking you to prom,” he says hesitantly. “But then I realized about thirty seconds ago I never asked you. I literally told everyone but you,” he adds, exasperated.
“Well, that sounds fun. I don’t have a dress, though,” you say.
“You’ve still got a couple days!” he pleads. “Please, I think it would be really fun if we went together.”
You try to ignore the butterflies that erupt in your stomach as he says this. As a distraction, you pretend to deliberate for a moment before agreeing. “Okay, I’ll be ready to go. What time are you picking me up?”
“Six!” he says. “Don’t forget to ask your dad.”
You roll your eyes, knowing full well that if your dad could trade you for Jungwon as a kid, he’d gladly do so. “Okay, I will. I’ll see you in class tomorrow.”
“Bye,” he says cheerily. “And sorry again!”
The call ends and you run downstairs to talk to your dad. “Hey,” you say as you enter his office, and he looks up and smiles at you.
“Hey, stranger,” he teases. “What’s up?”
“Jungwon called,” you say. “Apparently he forgot to ask me to prom, but I’m gonna go with him on Saturday if you’re okay with it.”
His jaw drops. “I absolutely love that idea. In fact, I think you should date him, go to college with him, and then marry him. Actually, I think I’m gonna tell him he can only take you to prom if he’s gonna marry you later.”
“Dad!” you shriek, blushing.
Your dad laughs at your discomfort. “So, do you have a dress?” he asks.
“No,” you admit, your cheeks still hot.
“Well, give me ten minutes and then we can go. Are you going to bring Jungwon with you to go dress shopping?” he asks hopefully.
“That might not be a bad idea,” you say. “Isn’t that bad luck, though?”
Your dad rolls his eyes. “No, that’s for when you get married. Jungwon shouldn’t see you in a wedding dress before then.”
You glare at your dad. “You keep making jokes, and I’m not even going to invite Jungwon to come.”
Your dad immediately sobers up. “Okay, okay,” he says, his tone placating. “I won’t do anything bad. Just call him.”
You do, and he answers promptly. “What’s up?”
“My dad wants to go dress shopping in like ten minutes,” you explain. “You could come and get your matching tie at the same time.”
“Great idea,” Jungwon says, “except I have Jake and Sunoo here right now.”
“Dress shopping?” you hear Sunoo say in the background. “We’re coming. She’s going to be the best-dressed person at prom or I’m not the person I say I am.”
There is a long pause. “Apparently Sunoo wants to come. Is that okay?”
“Bring them both,” you agree, smiling. “It’ll be way less weird than hanging out with just you and my dad.”
“I love your dad!” Jungwon says defensively.
“You love my dad, and my dad loves you, a little too much,” you sigh. “See you in ten.”
After collecting everyone, you head to the mall, and into a store that boasts a large selection of dresses that you had to look up on the internet to find. Jake’s eyes get wide as he takes in all the options, organized by color on seemingly endless rows of racks. “It’s so much harder for girls,” he realizes.
“Not if you do it right,” Sunoo instructs. “Now, darling, stay away from anything beige,” he tells you. “Or cheugy.”
You salute him, heading for the light blue rack. Jungwon follows you while your dad hangs back, talking with Sunoo and Jake. “I think you should look for something vintage-inspired,” he says, helping you look through the racks.
You look at him, impressed. “I didn’t think you’d have an opinion,” you tell him.
“Well, you’ll look pretty in anything,” he says, and he blushes a bit. “I just think that the vintage things you wear suit you really well.”
You can feel your face contorting into a shy smile against your will, so you pretend to concentrate on finding a dress. A shop worker comes to help, and within minutes you have a queue of dresses to try.
Sunoo is by far the most vocal critic, and as you step out in the first dress, a yellow number with daisies and tulle, he vetoes it almost immediately. “This is prom, not a garden party,” he insists.
He does the same with a green dress that hugs you tightly pretty much everywhere. “How are you expecting to dance in that?” he asks scathingly.
“I liked both of those,” Jake says, bewildered. “You looked really pretty in them.”
“You did,” Jungwon says, grinning. “There’s still a lot to try on, though. And I think Sunoo’s right that that dress will be hard to move in.
You roll your eyes and continue trying on dress after dress. You have it narrowed down to an emerald green dress with intricate pearl embroidery and a lavender dress with rosettes along the neckline before Jungwon sticks his hand underneath the changing stall with a frothy, floaty, light blue gown with a full skirt and puff sleeves. It is light, delicate, and poofy, and it has a slight shimmer to it. As you slip it on, you know -- this is the one.
You step out, and Jake starts clapping almost immediately. Your dad’s eyes are getting teary, and you almost start laughing. Sunoo is nodding in approval, but Jungwon is looking at you, and his eyes are wide and his mouth is slightly open and he is smiling in apparent awe.
He is the first to speak. “Wow,” he says simply.
“Wow is right,” Jake says. “This dress was made for you! You look incredible!”
Sunoo stands up. “An easy winner,” he declares. “I think we deserve ice cream after all this.”
“Thank you, guys,” you say. “I love it.”
You keep stealing glances at Jungwon. He cannot keep his eyes off you.
* * *
Prom night has finally arrived. You are a tiny bit nervous, but mostly excited -- but your dad is pacing around the kitchen, full of anxiety. Jungwon is two minutes later than he said.
“I told you, Dad,” you say. “He texted me five minutes ago that he was on his way, and he lives across town. He’ll be here.”
“What if something happens to him?” your dad whispers in horror.
“Dad, please,” you say, shaking your head. “Don’t be ridiculous.”
It’s less than five minutes later that the doorbell rings. Jungwon stands there, holding a bouquet of flowers, in a suit with a tie that matches your dress perfectly. His eyes go wide again as he takes in the sight of you -- hair done, makeup on, smiling at him. He impulsively takes your hand and twirls you right there on the doorstep. “Wow,” he says again, shaking his head. “You look...magical.”
“Magical?” you laugh.
“Beautiful,” he breathes. “Absolutely gorgeous.”
“Doesn’t she?” your dad interrupts. “I did her hair myself.”
“You did?” Jungwon asks, turning his wide eyes on your dad. “You did amazing! This is for you, by the way,” he remembers, handing the flowers to your dad. “You really earned them.”
“Thank you,” he says, proudly taking the flowers. “It took me three hours.”
“I’ll be back by midnight,” you tell him. “Have fun at home!”
“Have fun at prom! But not too much fun,” he says sternly.
As you leave the house, Jungwon takes your hand. “I’m really excited,” he says, his smile contagious.
“Me too,” you say. “You look amazing, too.”
He looks down at his black suit, complete with pearl cufflinks and white gloves. “Sunoo helped.”
“I figured. Where are we headed?” you ask.
Jungwon nods at the corner of the street. A limo is parked there. You look at him, aghast. “That’s for us?”
“Yes,” he says, and starts to jog with you over to it. He opens your door and makes sure your dress is all inside before climbing in next to you and sitting beside you.
There is a bouquet of small white flowers in the limo. Jungwon hands them to you. “I wanted to bring you flowers too, and I actually think they’d look kind of nice in your hair.”
“Really?” you say, touched.
He nods. “May I?”
You nod back. Jungwon plucks a couple, and places them carefully in your hair, giving you goosebumps. He turns you back around when he’s done. “They look pretty,” he says, folding his hand in yours again.
The limo ride is full of easy conversation between you and Jungwon, although you are trying to be normal about the fact that your best friend since childhood has grown to be so handsome, and here you are sitting beside him looking like this, and he is holding your hand. After about half an hour, the car stops.
“Where are we?” you ask, looking around. Unbeknownst to you, you’ve driven to the top of a small mountain, and have stopped at a restaurant.
Jungwon helps you out, places your hand in the crook of his elbow, and you walk into the restaurant, where he says, to your shock, “I have a reservation.”
You are seated on an outdoor terrace, overlooking the valley. The food is amazing, and as you eat, you enjoy the view -- although you’re much happier just because you’re with Jungwon. You talk and laugh and compliment the chef, and Jungwon pays for everything, making your eyes wide.
Then, it’s finally time for the dance. It’s loud and fun, and you see plenty of friends there. But your favorite part is when during a slow song, Jungwon takes you outside, to a quieter spot where you can just barely hear the music, and pulls you in close for a dance.
You rest your head on his shoulder, but you’re near enough that you can feel his heart beating. He has long since ditched his jacket and gloves, and the feeling of his bare hand in yours has the butterflies in your stomach going crazy. How did you end up feeling like this with someone you’d known so long?
The dance ends, and you load back into the limo, exhausted. Feeling brave, you lean your head against Jungwon’s shoulder again and close your eyes. To your surprise, he wraps his arms around your waist and leans against the side of the limo, closing his eyes, too. You drift in and out of sleep together on the ride home from prom.
When you finally arrive back home, Jungwon nudges you gently. “Wake up, sleepyhead,” he teases softly. “It’s time.”
You get out slowly, walking hand-in-hand, and he spins you one last time before you arrive at the porch. “I had a great time,” he says shyly, looking down at you.
“So did I,” you say, your smile so big your face hurts.
The silence that falls between you is heavy and fraught with unsaid words. Finally, Jungwon blurts out, “I have to tell you something.”
“Me, too,” you say in a rush. “You first.”
“No, wait, you first,” he says, confused.
“You first,” you insist, shoving his shoulder playfully.
“Okay, well, um,” he says, nervously playing with his cufflinks. “I don’t really know how to say it. I’m not great with words. But I guess I just wanted to let you know that I like you. A lot. Like, I like like you.”
You just look at him. He continues, looking a bit distressed. “I know we’ve been friends forever, and I know this might make things weird, but it’s almost our last year of high school, and I don’t think I could live with myself if I never told you.” He finally meets your eyes again, taking your hand. “I really like you, and I’d like to see if we could possibly work as something more than just friends.”
You touch his cheek. “You took the words right out of my mouth,” you say seriously. And he beams.
Taking a step closer, he leans in slightly. “Would it be okay if I kissed you?” he asks softly.
“Please do,” you say. He laughs quietly before closing the distance between you.
The kiss is sweet, soft, and perfect. When he pulls away, you cover your mouth with your hands. “I can’t believe we did that!” you squeal.
He laughs, full-bellied this time. He puts his hand on the other side of your face and kisses you again, deeper this time. “I can,” he says happily, brushing your noses together and kissing your forehead before putting his hands in his pockets.
Turning to leave, he stops at the bottom step and looks up at you on the porch. “Goodnight, my princess,” he calls to you, his voice just reaching you like the music of the slow song you’d danced to with him.
You go inside, watching him surreptitiously from the window. Before he makes it down your driveway, he does a fist pump. You laugh, and go to tell your dad what you’re sure he’s dying to hear -- that you and Jungwon are officially together.

Gorillas Getting Judged
Tomorrow's my assessment and I am hella nervous but a little excited but also mostly nervous.
I think I'm as ready as I'll ever possibly be about it and I've been talking about it with my friends about the likelihood of x y z and what may possibly happen and all that
Wuff.. the sooner all this is over the better... even if this is something I've wanted to know about for a long time, it's still very like...anxiety-inducing.
It's just an interview. Not like it's a job or anything. I hope I get a result I'm happy with, some days I still feel like "yeah nothing is probably up with me maybe I did this for nothing" and others I'm very confident about I guess having some sort of disorder going on.
I'd really like a professionals opinion and that's coming up. The only thing I'm terrified of is being written off. But, this maybe won't be the case if I'm doing this independantly of insurance and general doctors and all that...
So...
We'll see!! If it's some INCONCLUSIVE type answer then frankly I don't know what I'll do. What can I do though? Can't keep running to multiple places, cuz then it'll feel like I'm just probing for someone to tell me what I want. And I don't want that, ironically speaking.
I’m still really upset and pissed off that my parents still don’t take things like this seriously, and honestly they may never. Which, is just something I’ll have to deal with. I can’t be open with this kind of stuff about them, can’t talk about it unless it’s only happening to someone else. Minority families are just like that, what can I say? There’s that stigma attached to it like so many other things and mental illness in the family?? Ohoho boy you best get prepared to be yelled at and told off that it’s all fake and nothing you feel is real. No support at all. I’ve talked about this kind of thing before though so, nothing new there. Dad’s still harping on and on about how I better hear the answer I want to hear and I better get my money’s worth because it’s such a rip off etc etc. Like... I’m getting this assessment done without being on a huge waiting list, without paying exorbitant fees- I’m really lucky I can afford something like this for myself to be honest. And I’m in a good position right now to be able to have an assessment done in the first place. So yeah...
Hhhh.. moving along...on top of that, I got all my new computer parts so I've been making a backup of my system but that's taking so long. I have effectively banished myself from computer games so I wish I woulda planned that a bit better. Oh well.. by the weekend I'll have jazzy new parts and a speedier computation machine so.. something to look forward to.
There’s not much else to be said in the meantime, at least until tomorrow perhaps. Hopefully my mind won’t be blown to smithereens and I’ll be feeling OK or better than that. Something positive. It’s been a real emotional and tense week (and it’s only going to be Wednesday). With all the college stuff mounting, I’m just... I’m tired. I want to relax, I want a break, I wanna do stuff I like doing and continue on like normal... But for now I can’t.
Gotta schedule Tato’s dental speaking of which... I’m a bit nervous about that but my mom’s already made an appointment for the other cat so I’m going to see how his appt turns out before taking Tato in for his teeth cleaning. The vet said they were really gnarly (which was surprisingly cuz the previous vet said nothing about this) so I hope it doesn’t come down to like.... a ton of extractions or whatever the case. I’d feel bad and so would my wallet, but hey, gotta do whatever is necessary to keep that boi healthy.
That’s it for now though...
Wish me...luck??? I guess? Thu..mbs up?

Hiiiii
I'm excited for that chapterrr
You knew Mason could tell something was up with you as soon as he got home from training. You smile didn’t quite reach your eyes and as you stood cooking dinner for the pair of you, you didn’t ask him anything about his day or let him know how yours was. You were distracted, the only thing on your mind being what you’d discovered earlier. OHHH🥺🥺🥺 WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND LOVE?
He knew you’d come to him when you were ready so he didn’t push. You didn’t come across as upset to him, more unsure and curious about something so he let you mull things over knowing that when you went to bed you’d hopefully spill. I LOVE THAT MAN
‘Hey baby? You don’t have to tell me but whatever’s troubling you, you can always speak to me about it. I know I’m not the brightest crayon in the box all the time but you know I’ll always try for you’ he murmured into your hair and you laughed at his attempt at comfort. OH, I'M SO SOFT NOWWW
‘It’s my dad’ you said quietly, waiting to see if he’d react in anyway but he remained the same, wanting to let you continue and you took a breath before carrying on. ‘He sent me a message last night. I saw it this morning’ I KNEW ITTTT
‘Would you read it for me?’ You asked him quietly, feeling him nod his head on top of yours but you felt sick to your stomach about what it might say. I LOVE HOW MUCH SHE TRUSTS HIM
GIRL FOR NOW MY THEORY IS RIGHT, I'M PROUD OF MY SELF🤭 (and actually I suggested thatttt on anon months agoo🤭)
‘You okay?’ He whispered, fingers now tracing your lower back in an attempt to comfort you and you nodded to let him know you were fine even if you felt anything but. ‘We can talk when you’re ready, yeah?’ He told you, tears finally stinging the backs of your eyes and you let them fall freely hoping he wouldn’t notice. HOW CAN I LOVE ONE PERSON THAT MUCH??? YOU WRITE HIM PERFECTLY
Why now? What’s changed? Did he need something? Was he sick? Was he homeless? HAHAHHAHA, I HOPE HE IS HOMELESS 🤭🤭🤭 HE DESERVES THAT
‘Well it’ll be rude if I don’t and he’s been waiting for a reply’ OH LOVE IT'S NOT RUDE, HE CAN'T PRETEND ANYTHING FROM YOU🩷
‘Well no, just forget about him for a second. What do you want to do. This isn’t about him at all it’s about you and your feelings’ he told you, your body tingling at how much he cared. ‘Also when we first met you’d ignore me for days so don’t start with that shit’ he teased, ticking your side playfully in an attempt to get you to smile and even though you tried not to you couldn’t deny him, letting a small chuckle pass your lips. ‘Have you ever thought about seeing him again?’ GOOD JOB BABY BOY🤭
‘That makes sense’ he breathed ‘but he said he’ll wait for you. You’ve got time to think’ I LOVE HOW HE IS JUST TRYING TO CONVINCE HER TO PUT HERSELF FIRST
‘That sounds like a good idea. And if you still don’t know we can have a nice day tomorrow with my family and forget about everything until you’re ready’ CAN I COME TOO?
‘We can cancel tomorrow if you want, you know if it’s too much?’ MY MAN
‘No Mase, I want to go’ you reassured him before he dipped his head to kiss you softly. You didn’t realise how much you needed his kisses right now so you reached up to hold him there until you needed to pull away so you could catch your breath. ‘Let’s go to sleep yeah? We need to be up early tomorrow’ you told him and with a final kiss you settled down. THE CARE HE HAS FOR HER KILLS ME EVERYTIME
Once you were at his parents, Tony requested to come and help him with the bbq as you’d be a better hand than Mason but when Tony went inside to grab a glass of water you completely zoned out, not even realising Tony was back and trying to talk to you as you were so caught up with what to do about your dad. I WANT TO SQUEEZE HERRR🫂🫂🫂
‘Sorry Tony, I’m fine’ you smiled, brushing everything off but a little voice in the back of your head told you to keep talking. ‘Actually, can I talk to you about something?’ OH MY GOD, I WAS NOT EXPECTING THATTTTTT, I'M HAPPYYYYY, AAAAA
‘He said you weren’t close but not much more than that. Don’t think he wanted to over step’ MY LITTLE MASON🤗🤗🤗
I JUST LOVE HOW SHE OPENED UP TO TONY, I WAS NEVER EXPECTING THAT
‘What would it take to make you pack up and leave your children? And just never speak to them again?’ You asked and you could tell he was shocked and a little bit stumped. ‘You’re a father and I’m just trying to get into his mindset. Like how he could do that to me?’ OH, SHE'S GOING TO HATE THE ANSWER
‘No family is perfect y/n, our family should be proof of that. Things don’t always work out but I wouldn’t change what I have now for the world. Having said that, there’s nothing that would keep me away from my kids’ he told you honestly and you could feel your heart breaking a little bit even though you’d asked for it. Before you knew what was happening he placed his arm around your shoulders and patted your arm in a loving manner which you appreciated. ‘I’m not him though, so maybe it’s best you ask him’ HE COULDN'T GIVE BETTER ANSWER, OMG🥺🥺🥺
‘Not at all. He’s let you down before and I bet the thought of a second chance is terrifying but if you want my opinion, I’d say go for it. Then you won’t have to live your life wondering what if’ CAN I HAVE A TONY IN MY LIFE???
‘Of course. And whatever happens you’ll still have us, still have me’ he smiled causing you to smile back at him even brighter. WELL, I JUST STARTED CRYING
‘Well I appreciate you and the way you look after my son. I know he’s a handful sometimes’ BYE🥹🥹🥹🥹
‘You two done yapping, I’m hungry’ Mason joked, his hands resting on your waist and you playfully elbowed him in the ribs which caused him to laugh. ‘Sam’s here now he said he can come and take over’ he told you, and after a quick hello with everyone you joined Mason near the table with his sister and mum. You went to take a seat next to him but he grabbed your wrist, patting his thighs as he pulled you onto his lap and you giggled and you wrapped your arms around each other. His lips pressing little kisses on your shoulder before leaning his cheek on your arm. HERE HE ISSS OUR LOVELY SILLY BOYYYY
You knew he just wanted to be close to you but you could feel him underneath you, your eyes widening ever so slightly as you looked at him slyly but the wink he sent you let you know he knew exactly what he was doing. MASON MOUNT 🫣🫣🫣
‘Y/n? Would you mind helping me bring the salad out?’ Debbie suddenly asked but as soon you lifted your hips from his lap he was pulling you back down. AHHAHAHAHAHHAHA DEBBIEEEEE
‘Don’t you dare’ he growled in your ear, feeling his bulge press into you even further as you giggled at the situation. ‘Jaz can you go? I need to ask y/n something’ he asked and thankfully she agreed with no issues. ‘You’re trouble’ he breathed, kissing up your arm softly as he touched you gently. ‘You wait till we get home’ HE'S SAFEEEE, YEEEE
‘Story auntie y/n!’ You suddenly heard Summer yell from beside you, Jaz rolling her eyes with a smile at her behaviour before making her say please but there was no way you could say no to her. For Christmas you’d bought her a collection of your favourite books from when you were a kid and every time she saw you she made you read her one so you knew this was coming and thankfully she’d waited until after everyone had eaten. OH MY GOOODD I SUGGESTED THE SUMMER AND AUNTIE MOMENTS TOOOO, AND I NEEDED THAT SOOOO BAD
‘Summer, when you’re done I’ve got Ice cream for you’ you heard Jaz shout and that was all it took for her to jump up and and leave you. You didn’t mind though, thankful for a few minutes on your own, resting your head back and shutting your eyes to you could gather yourself. It was exhausting trying to pretend everything was okay when it to you it felt like things were crumbling around you. I HONESTLY WOULD HAVE RUN WITH SUMMER, NOTHING BEATS ICE-CREAM
‘Mind if I come and join you?’ You suddenly heard, looking to you left to see Mason approaching you with his hands stuffed into his pockets and you shuffled over before patting the space next to you so he could sit down. The chair was just about big enough for you and Summer so getting you and Mason on it was a struggle, both giggling as the pair of you tried to get comfortable in such a small space. Eventually draping your legs over Masons lap as he turned to you slightly so he could wrap his arms around you. Your head made home on his chest as he rested his cheek on top before stroking up and down your arms gently. ‘You alright over here?’ THEY ARE TWO BABIES, MY TWO BABIES 🥹
‘Why don’t you have a little nap’ HOW CAN YOU SAY NO TO THAT PROPOSAL???
‘They won’t care. They’re still tidying up and sorting some things out, just shut your eyes for five minutes baby. I’ll wake you up when they’re done’ he promised and even though you didn’t want to, the gentle feel of his fingertips on your arm and his lips pressing sporadic against your hairline relaxed you instantly. You were close to drifting off off a few minutes later and the feeling of his fingers interlocking in yours sent you to sleep. CAN I HAVE A MASON THAT PUTS ME TO SLEEP?
‘I’m just worried mum’ he said carefully, clearly trying not to wake you but you were way passed that. ‘You should of seen her last night, it’s completely thrown her and I had no idea what to say. I felt useless’ OH MY LOVE, YOU'RE NOT USELESS
‘I hope so. Whatever she wants I’ll be there for her but I swear to god if he hurts her again I’ll flip‘ AHHAHAHAHH, I'M SO SURE HE WOULD, HE WOULD DO EVERYTHING TO PROTECT HIS WOMAN
‘I’m serious, mum. I know what it’s taken her to get where she is now and he he ruins all her hard work then I’ll make his life not worth living’ he told her seriously and your heart fluttered at how protective he was being over you. ‘I haven’t said this cause I want her to make her own mind up, but I do want her to give him a chance. If he can turn everything around then I think having him in her life would be good for her’ I LOVE THIS MAN PT.293873929
NOT ME HAVIN TEARY EYES AFTER THIS MOM AND SON CONVERSATION
‘You alright there sleepy face’ he whispered gently and you looked up at him with a smile as you nodded before your eyes averted to Debbie. DEADDDD OF SWEETNESSS
‘Don’t be silly, it can’t be helped sometimes’ she laughed as she patted your knee. ‘Now I’m gonna go get the desserts ready so I’d be quick or Tony will eat all the good ones’ she winked before going back inside, leaving the pair of you alone again. IN THE MEANWHILE IM WITH TONY EATING THE DESSERT 🫣🤣
‘I’ve made my mind up though’ you told him quietly, fear rising in your chest but you wanted to talk to him and let him know your thoughts as soon as you could hoping to settle his mind as well as your own. ‘I’m gonna message him back and see what happens. I think it would be good to meet and clear the air a bit’ GOOD JOB LOVE
‘That’s my girl’ he laughed quietly, pulling you closer and kissing your head affectionately making you nestle down into his chest more as you blushed. You loved being called his girl and the fact you knew he was happy with your decision made it even better. HOW CAN I LIVE WITHOUT THESE TWOOO WEEKLY???
‘He’s replying already, I’m scared’ NOT HIM BEING ATTACKED TO HIS PHONE WAITING FOR HER ANSWER
‘Oh’ you said quietly and Masons head whipped round, concern written all over his face as he thought the worst but you sent him a smile to reassure him. ‘No it’s fine, he wants to see me but he can only do Thursday’ HE CAN DO ONLY....MMMM...LISTEN YOU...MY GIRL MAKES THE RULES HERE, NOT YOU
‘Okay, thats great. What’s the problem?’ he asked but was talking again before you could answer. ‘Can he only do the morning? Training should be done by two so if we can push him to the afternoon then I’ll get home as quick as I can so we can go’ THE FACT THAT HE JUST KNEW SHE NEEDED HIM TO GO....🥹🥹🥹🥹
‘Do you honestly think I wouldn’t drop what I was doing? I wanna be there for you and it’s just golf baby, Woody will understand. You’re way more important than all that’ OMG, I'M CRYING AGAINNNNN
‘Of course. Your problems are my my problems. When you’re happy, I’m happy. When you hurt, I hurt’ he explained, reaching for your hand so he could kiss your knuckles. ‘I’m coming so tell him Thursday is fine’ he assured you but you wanted to reach over and kiss him so bad. You knew he could tell from the way he was smiling at you so you returned it before you replied to your dad before could talk yourself out of it. MY MAN 🥹🥹🥹🥹🩷
‘You’re alright, baby. You’ve got nothing to worry about’ he reassured you as he placed a drink down in front of you before kissing the tip of your nose. ‘He’s the one that’s got the making up to do’ GOOD JOB
‘Let’s take your mind off of it for five minutes then’ he smiled. You began chatting lightly about some anniversary plans he was making for the pair of you even though you told him you wanted to keep things low key. He was looking through a bunch a restaurants when a voice you never thought you’d hear again interrupted you. WE'RE GETTING ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS????
‘I thought so’ he smiled warmly as you felt Mason stand up next to you. Your dad took a double take, clearly knowing who Mason was and you watched the way his eyes widened as he took him in. ‘Sorry, are you Mason Mount?’ YEAS IT'S HIM IN PERSONNNNNN🫣🫣🫣🫣
‘That’s me’ Mason laughed, reaching his hand forward so he could shake his hand as your dad introduced himself to him. ‘I’ll leave you guys to it’ he smiled, looking back down at you with a soft smile. ‘I’ll be inside yeah, just text me’ he whispered before leaving a quick kiss on your cheek and disappearing inside. I LOVE THIS MAN
‘No, we haven’t spoken in a few years’ you told him honestly and he looked at you with a bewildered expression. ‘When you left, I’m not sure if she blamed me or if I’m too much like you but our relationship suffered and we haven’t spoken since I moved out when I was 17 and that was it really’ MY BABY GIRL🫂🫂🫂🫂
‘I’m so sorry’ he breathed, looking down almost as if he was ashamed of himself but you were too numb to feel any sympathy towards him right now. ‘I want you to know of was never you. I was selfish and ashamed of myself for what I’d done by just leaving so I kept away. I know it was wrong and I’ve wanted to speak to your for years but I was scared of being shut out’ I'M LIKING THAT, MAYBE SHE CAN INVITE YOU TO HER WEDDING🫣🤣
‘You’ve got nothing to be sorry for’ he reassured you. ‘That fact you’re even here today proves to me what type of person you are and I’m so sorry I missed out on watching you grow up. I need you to know that a day hasn’t gone by where I haven’t thought about you and if you’ll let me, I want to explain and hopefully make amends’ LOZ, I LITERALLY CRYIED DURING ALL THE CHAPTERRRRR
‘Your mum cheated on me when you were ten’ he sighed and you felt your whole body go numb. He went onto explain that as much as he tried to forgive her he couldn’t and that she’d begged him to stay for your sake so he did but in the end it was too much and he left. WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT AT ALL, SO THE MUM WAS THE PROBLEM....I HATE HER EVEN MORE
SHE'S GOING TO HAVE TWO NEW SISTERS IN HER LIFE🫂🫂🫂🥹
‘I um, I’m just gonna pop to the loo’ you told him, quickly running off inside as you tried to keep your tears in. All you wanted right now was Masons comfort and thankfully he wasn’t that hard to find, sat with a group of random guys that had recognised him but he was up and coming over to you in a flash. OHHHHHHH, I CAN'T 🥹🥹🥹
‘No’ you sighed, rubbing your eyes before holding onto his wrists. ‘He’s just told me some stuff I didn’t know and I’m a bit shocked. And he hasn’t stopped talking about his new kids and it’s making me feel like shit a bit’ you laughed but Masons face looked anything but amused by this. ‘I’ll be fine I just need five minutes. I’m gonna pop to the loo and I’ll head back out’ OH BABY GIRL🥺🥺
‘I don’t think you understand how special she is. What a privilege it is to be in her life and you’re blowing it. You can’t just drop bombshells and then parade your new perfect family in front of her. She’s in tears in there’ LOZ....OH MY GOD, I'M FALLING IN LOVE WITH HIM EVEN MORE, I DIDN'T KNOW THAT WAS POSSIBLE
‘Well when she’s back just reign it in a bit. She won’t admit it but she’s sensitive and she wants you to like her. She’s spent half of her life thinking you’d replaced her so you need to make her feel wanted’ OMG, I DON'T THINK I CAN MAKE IT AT THE END OF THIS CHAPTER
‘She’s my everything’ GOODBYE FRIENDS, IT WAS NICE MEETING YOU🫠🫠🫠
‘Ah, there you are’ your dad smiled as Mason jumped, looking at you like he knew he’d been caught but you placed you hand on his shoulder so he would stay in his seat before holding his hand in your lap. SHE WANTS HER MAN HERE
‘Of course not. I feel like you two come as a bit of a package deal so I’d love to get to know the both of you’ he nodded and felt Mason squeeze your hand. ‘So how did you meet?’ THEY ARE A PACKAGE, DEFINITELY
We’re things perfect? No. Not but a long shot. But you were on the road to heal and with Mason sat by your side you knew whatever happened now you’d always have him. YES LOVE, YOU'LL GET THERE, I KNOW THAT
‘Am I allowed to give you hug?’ He asked, as you stood up, fiddling with his fingers as he was nervous but you opened your arms for him immediately. ‘I really am so sorry, y/n. I hope you know that’ he spoke into your hair but you were so overcome with emotion all you could do was nod. ‘I know I’ve failed you, both your mum and I have really but I’m ready to do anything it takes to be in your life again. And I want you to be a part of mine, yeah?’ THE FACT THAT SHE PLOPENED HER ARMS TO HIM....WHAT HAS MR. MOUNT DONE TO OUR ICY GIRL???🥹🥹🥹
‘You don’t have to say it back or anything, I know it’s a lot, but I love you kid. I’m glad we get to start again’ OMG🥹🥹🥹
‘Thank you for coming today, I don’t think I could of done it without you’ HE IS HER ROCK
‘I love you so much’ you whispered, not letting him answer before you were kissing him again. WELL
LOZ, I DON'T HAVE WORDS
WOW
I LITERALLY CRYED
THAT WAS AMAZING
I LOVED HER CONVERSATION WITH TONY
AND MASON'S WITH DEBBIE, THAT WAS SOOOO NEEDED

Last nights dream: I was in charge of the drinks and con session area at this outdoor skating rink with someone else. And a bunch of people were out to skate. And TXT members were there skating as well. And I wanted their attention SO BAD LMFAO. There was this competition where they saw who could climb this ladder the highest, and a bunch of people went at once. And TXT were leading and eventually won first place. And they tried to announce the place of the winners, but that went awry. And after the setting changed into a mall. And i wanted to dress a bit nicer to get their attention. So I stole these pipe cleaner flowers from an art piece. I was planning on putting them on my slippers to make my shoes look nicer. But I needed to run back to my slippers which were all the way around this mall. AND I ran into Beomgyu who was smoking outside and we made eye contact. And then I kept running, and eventually I got in trouble so these art gallery people were chasing me. And I had to run around this mall to get away from them. TXT were roaming around the mall as well. Eventually I went to this hair salon in the mall and asked for a haircut or something. And this lady put me in a chair and started washing my hair and I was worried that it’d be too expensive. I also started eating a bowl of ramen and she was telling me to hurt so I wouldn’t be late for a concert.
Where I went: home, res
What I ate: lunch: tsin-cai, egg, meatballs (😔), fried chicken, fried shrimp, dan-zhuan, etc. Snack: tea, cookies, cheesecake, cantaloupe, grapes, orange, milk bread. Dinner: shrimp, egg, cracker. Snack: tea, water
What I did: I actually didn’t do that much today. I woke up quite late from a really awesome dream because I saw tomorrow x together. And I woke up ate lunch, packed up my stuff, ate some more snacks played on my phone took a nap and then mom and dad gave me a ride to Sheridan residence. And when I got back to Res, I unpacked all the food and basically just worked for so many hours. I did, however watch the Miley Cyrus attention live concert and tomorrow x together’s performance at lollapalooza. Now it’s 5 AM and I’m about to go to sleep.
Media: Miley Cyrus attention live performance at lollapalooza, TXT lollapalooza performance
What I’m grateful for: mom and dad. I feel so guilty because mom took so much time to prepare all of the food for the Chinese new year dinner and the kids us. We got absolutely spoiled with the red pockets this year and I wish that I can give them some of the money because they both worked really hard. Mostly my mom to prepare a really nice dinner, they also drove me and Chai Li back to school. I almost feel bad because whenever dad says that he needs to use the washroom at my fathers, I get like annoyed for some reason and I get embarrassed because I think my dad does not have very good social cues, and does not have a solid grasp on action to consequence pipeline as does Jie Jie what does ironic because they don’t get along so I feel bad about that. I hope that I can be a better person. Be more patient with them and be more generous when I am in the position to be, I hope that when I am further in my career and making six or seven figures which I know I will die plan on giving them a lot because they’ve given me so much
Closing thoughts: I have so much to do so much to do for tomorrow and I’m nervous I do have a list of priorities, so hopefully that will actually go OK. today was also Alex‘s 14th birthday. I wonder if he was happy probably not but he did have time alone so I’m sure he’s happy about that. He’s such a bad attitude really annoys me but then again I also had this kind of attitude when I was around his age and I was just very angry at everything so hopefully it’ll be something that passes over.

i am, regrettably, feeling hopeful
#so! i came out to my mom#it. it went okay! it wasn’t confrontational like i thought it would be; she didn’t try to talk me out of being trans or transitioning#she seemed. willing to listen and try to understand#i’m telling my dad tomorrow; hopefully it’ll go about as well#what. i guess surprised me? is that she still wanted me in her life. which shouldn’t have been surprising! but man#i was asking a friend for advice; and they said to remember; ultimately; that she loves me. which is funny; because i didn’t consider that?#i didn’t think of love as a force at play; i thought that coming out would be the end of it and i would lose it#i was prepared to! i thought that was how it was going to be#but my friend was right#not 2 b like love and light and hope but. she said that her future had to have me in it; and having thought for so long#that my future wasn’t compatible with my family; that i had to pick one or the other? i think it’s a good sign#i don’t know what the future holds; but i was to the point where i couldn’t believe in a future anymore#there was only the past-forced-present; dragged on past its half-life; crumbling even as i held onto it#as everything ground to a halt around me. i may still be there; in the dry-rot space between; but the door is cracked open now#there’s a way out; and even bound as i am to here and now and what that means; i can feel the fresh air of a life beyond this one.#i don’t know what that future holds; but the present-past is barren and lifeless and all-consuming; and even now the veil is lifting#anyway sorry 2 b sentimental and stuff but it’s how i’m feeling atm and i figured i should update the mutuals#i don’t get my hormones until monday but i’ve made it this far without them i can wait another ~48 hours#thanks to everyone who’s offered support; it’s nice to know i have people rooting for me even if we’ve never met#lucky to have y’all as my mutuals <3 <3

Jordan Parrish - Sheriffs Daughter pt.3
Tumblr media
Y/N was released from the hospital a few days later and Stiles picked her up bringing her home. When she got home Stiles wouldn't let her do anything around the house herself. "Stiles I am fine really." Y/N laughed as Stiles huffed rolling his eyes. "Yeah well Melissa said that you need to rest so stay in bed don’t do anything. I have to go to Scott’s but call me if you need something. Love you bye.” Y/N sighed as Stiles left leaving her alone since Jordan and her dad were working and everyone else would be at Scott’s.
She caught up on some new shows for a few hours before shutting her tv off sighing in boredom. She got up heading down to the kitchen and started making dinner wanting to bring it to her dad and Jordan. She made lasagna and drove to the station walking in. Jordan was on the phone and when she looked into her dads office she saw Scott, Stiles, Liam, Malia and Lydia standing there talking to him. She walked over to Jordan’s desk and he smiled when he noticed her and put his finger up telling her it’ll be a minute. She sat down in the chair next to his desk looking into her dads office wondering what was happening. Jordan hung up the phone turning his attention to Y/N.
“I brought food!” Y/N exclaimed happily holding up the container handing it to him. “This smells and looks amazing thank you sweetheart.” Jordan kissed her cheek as he began eating it. “So what’s going on in there?” “Liam thinks he knows who shot into Scott’s house and hit you.” “Who does he think it is?” “Nolan.” “Who the fuck is Nolan?” Jordan chuckled explaining who he was. The office door opened and Y/N turned her head to look at them and Stiles sighed. “I thought I told you to rest.” “And I think Im fine to bring dad and Jordan dinner.” She pushed past Stiles placing the other container on her dads desk. Stiles and the pack said goodbye and Stiles leaned down close to Jordan whispering something and he nodded. Y/N ignored it assuming it was about her resting and she turned to her dad.
“Are you going to arrest the kid who shot into Scott’s house and shot me?” The sheriff sighed sitting on his desk crossing his arms. “I want to trust me but the only proof we have is Liam overhearing Monroe and Nolan talking about it we don’t have any real proof.” “Dad he shot into Scott’s house trying to kill him! And he shot me!”
“I know I know but we need evidence not just Liam hearing the conversation.” The sheriff glanced at Jordan who was still eating while doing paperwork and Noah walked over to the door closing it making Y/N a little nervous. “He likes you a lot you know. I’m not supposed to tell you this but he’s really nervous to ask you out he was asking me for advice.” Noah laughed. “Why is he nervous?” “Beats me, you so obviously like him too.” Noah said causing his daughter to laugh as he sounded like a school girl gossiping about crushes.
Y/N said goodbye to her dad then walking over to Jordan’s desk making him look up from his paperwork. “I was wondering if you wanted to come over after your shift?” Y/N asked hopefully and he frowned. “I’m sorry I can’t I’m helping Stiles with something but I will definitely see you tomorrow. Thank you for dinner it was amazing.” “Of course, be safe tonight.” Y/N kissed his goodbye walking out of the station and Jordan watched her walk out with a stupid smile on his face.
After his shift he went to Scott’s and was let in on the plan about scaring/beating Nolan for what he did. Liam was going to get him to where he needed to be and then Stiles and Jordan would take care of the rest. They headed out seeing Nolan and Liam talking at the zoo. “What are we doing here Dunbar?” Nolan questioned as Liam chuckled.
“We know Nolan. We all know you were the one shooting into Scott’s house.”
“And shot my sister during it.” Stiles said coming up behind Nolan with Jordan standing right beside him. “I didn’t mean to hit her. It was just supposed to be a scare tactic for you guys to leave Beacon Hills and give up.”
“Yeah well you did the opposite of that. Now you have the whole McCall pack, the deputy, and the sheriff wanting to kill you but we won’t…..as long as you work with us and tell us about Monroe and Gerard’s plan.” Stiles said walking closer to Nolan slowly stopping a few inches away from him looking him up and down with a scowl on his face. “I can’t.” Nolan whispered looking down at the ground as Stiles tilted his head to the side rolling his tongue inside of his cheek. He sent Liam a nod and Liam grabbed Nolan pinning his arms behind his back holding him still.
Stiles sent a punch to Nolan’s face making him groan in pain. Liam held him up as Stiles sent one more punch to his face and one to his stomach. Stiles looked back at Jordan as he went up to Nolan. “If I were you I would cooperate, you don’t want to be a target and you certainly don’t want to go to jail because the sheriff and I will make it hell for you.” Jordan said as Nolan shook his head.
“I can’t. She’ll kill me.”
“She’ll have no idea you’re helping us. I promise you’ll be safe if you help.” Nolan didn’t answer and Jordan let out a chuckle before punching him. Nolan’s face was covered in blood and Jordan sent a punch to his stomach twice. Stiles and Jordan kept beating him until he was coughing up blood and they stepped back. “Wanna change your answer yet?” Stiles raised an eyebrow at Nolan who spit out blood and nodded. “Fine. I’ll help but she can’t know.” “Obviously.” Stiles rolled his eyes as Liam let him go pushing him. Jordan grabbed the collar of Nolan’s shirt pushing him against the stone wall aggressively.
“You’re a lucky bastard that you didn’t kill her because trust me if you did this would be going a lot different. If you do something stupid we will kill you it’s that simple. Understand?”Jordan scowled as Nolan gulped closing his eyes and nodding.
“It’s actually not that simple deputy.” Monroe said walking out from behind a rock holding a gun to Y/Ns head there was blood trickling down her face from the cut on her forehead as the rest of the pack came out their claws ready, eyes glowing. Monroe had some men from her army standing behind her guns at the ready and Jordan was glaring at her with his reddish-orange eyes. “Let her go.” Jordan growled as Monroe laughed pressing the gun against Y/Ns head harder.
“Why should I?”
“Because I’ll have you arrested for kidnapping, murder, attempted murder, should I continue?” The sheriff said walking towards us with a gun pointed straight at Monroe and the police department behind him guns pointed at Monroe’s men. “Now it’s in your best interest to let go of my daughter.” The sheriff said taking the safety off the gun and Monroe lowered the gun and letting go of Y/N and she ran over to Jordan and Stiles. The sheriff handcuffed Monroe and the men taking them to the station. Y/N was crying in Stiles’s shoulder and she collapsed to the ground in his arms and Stiles held her tighter and Jordan rubbed her back.
“How about we go home?” Stiles whispered pulling away slightly looking down at his sister wiping her tears away and she nodded standing up her legs wobbly. Stiles carried her to his jeep placing her in the passenger seat and Jordan walked up to her wiping the blood off of her face and caressing her cheek. “Will I see you at my house?” Y/N asked and Jordan nodded. “Of course.” Jordan kissed her head before closing the door and getting in his car.
“Do you want to talk about anything?”
“No. I’m okay Stiles.” Stiles didn’t believe her but decided not to push it and when he pulled into the driveway Jordan pulled in behind him. “I’m going to go to sleep, get some rest I love you.” Stiles kissed her head before turning to Jordan as Y/N walked to the kitchen to get water. “Make sure she’s okay. She didn’t wanna talk to me about it.” Stiles said and Jordan nodded. They all headed upstairs Stiles going into his room and Jordan and Y/N in her room.
They laid on the bed him big spooning her holding her close against his chest placing gentle kisses on her shoulder. “Are you okay?” “Yeah I’m fine.” Y/N sent him a smile but he saw the pain in her eyes. “Y/N it’s okay if you’re not okay. No one expects you to be okay after everything you’ve been through in a short period of time.” He caressed her sides resting his head on her shoulder. “Jordan I really don’t want to talk about it.”
“Okay let’s talk about something else then.”
“Like what?”
“Let’s talk about what you would say if I asked you to be my girlfriend.” Jordan said nervously and she turned around in his arms to face him and he was biting his lip chewing it slightly. “I would say yes. A big yes.” Y/N smiled brightly at him as he leaned down placing his lips onto hers.

“I think I just failed our math test.” You huffed as you dropped your lunch tray onto the table.
Peter and Ned left an open spot between them for you to squeeze into.
“Honestly, I don’t see how you could have failed this test, (Y/N).” Peter chuckled.
“Yeah,” Ned agreed, “if you think you failed this test, then I don’t even want to know what I got.”
That made you laugh. “Okay, maybe not failed, but definitely not my best. I feel like I know what we’re learning, but it’s hard to do on paper, you know?”
Peter nodded his head.
“Whatever,” you chuckled, “let’s talk about something else. What are we doing after school?”
Peter whipped his head to you, “we had after school plans?”
“Well not exactly, but it’s Friday so I thought we could do something fun.”
Ned agreed, “Yeah, plus we haven’t all hung out in a while.”
Peter sighed, “Guys, I have that Stark thing tonight remember? I can’t just abandon my internship.”
You pout and poke Peter’s arm, “but all you ever do now is go to your internship. It’s like Ned and I don’t even see you anymore, Pete.”
“She’s right. You were so busy last weekend, (Y/N) and I had to go to the opening of her sister’s dance recital all by ourselves.”
“I mean, I understand why he didn’t want to go to that one. It was a nightmare.” You chuckled.
Peter sighed, “Listen, I’m really sorry I’ve missed a lot. I’ll make it up to you guys, I promise.”
“So... tonight?” You asked hopefully. “I swear, we will make it worth the time of the all mighty Peter Parker.” You teased as you bumped your shoulder with Peter’s.
He nervously chuckled, “Y-yeah! Okay, um, yeah, tonight.”
You giggled, noticing a new warmth to his cheeks. “So, what time do you get done?”
“Get done?” He repeated.
“You know, your internship.” Ned reminded him.
Peter gasped, “Oh, right! Right, my internship. Um, actually it might be late, are you sure you want to do it tonight?”
You shrugged, “It’s the weekend, I’m sure my parents won’t mind. Please Peter, we haven’t hung out in forever! The internship is eating up your social life!” You chuckled.
Ned gasped, “oh my god, we should totally have a sleepover at Peter’s tonight! I can bring some comics and movies for us.”
You cheered, “Yes! That would be so fun!” You noticed Peter looked a little awkward from the conversation. “Unless, you just don’t want to hang out, which is totally okay! Ned and I could always ju-”
“No!” Peter yelled.
He looked around the cafeteria, embarrassed. He cleared his throat. “I-I mean, no, I do want to hang out with you guys tonight. I think I should be getting back around ten, so you guys can come to my place.”
Ned gasped, “Peter, you work that late and you’re not even getting paid?”
He chuckled nervously, “well, yeah. I just really like working for Mr. Stark, so I don’t mind it.” Peter wiggled around awkwardly, almost like he didn’t know what to do with himself.
Peter’s hand rested on his leg, and you placed yours on top of his. He looked up at you, eyes wide and lips slightly parted.
You gave his hand a squeeze. “Peter, you’re my best friend. I can see how you’re acting right now. If you don’t want to hang out tonight, that’s totally understandable. We get how important this is to you, and we wouldn’t want to get in the way of your opportunity.”
Peter’s face softened into one with a smile. He squeezed your hand back, “thanks (Y/N), that means a lot. I do want to hang out with you guys, though. We’re going to have a sleepover at my place tonight, and it’ll be fun. I promise.”
Peter cleared his throat, and stood up. “I’ll be right back, I’m just going to use the bathroom real quick.”
Once Peter left, Ned started to chuckle.
You turned to him and smiled, “what’s so funny?”
“What’s funny is how obvious it is that you have a thing for Peter.”
You giggled, “come on Ned, no I don’t.”
Ned shook his head and grinned at you, “I know you do; I just know these things. The way the two of you look at each other is like you’re in some rom com.”
You groan, “okay fine, I do like Peter. And I’m only telling you this because your my best friend, not because I want you to tell him!”
Ned scoffed, “please, of course I’m not going to tell Peter. You should be the one to do it.”
You smiled and lightly pushed his shoulder with your own. “Thanks, Ned. Also, don’t make anything awkward now that you know, okay? Peter will definitely know something is up.”
Ned made an ‘x’ over his chest. “Cross my heart!”
You look away from Ned just in time to see Peter walking back into the cafeteria. He takes his seat next to you and gives you a smile.
“Oh Peter!” Ned said, “I forgot that I have plans tonight already. My mom wanted me to try out this new yoga video with her. She thinks it’ll be a nice way to relax and release tension.”
“Oh, that’s okay.” Peter nodded, “we can always hang out some other time.”
“Oh!” Ned gasped, “Well, (Y/N)’s still free tonight. The two of you can have that sleepover still. I’ll lend you my comics.”
“Yeah! That-that sounds cool.” Peter looked at you and smiled, “I’m down if you are.”
You grinned, “Totally! I’ll never turn down the chance to hang out with you.”
Peter blushed at that.
You smiled at Ned, “Sorry you can’t come! We’ll miss you tonight.” You winked.
Ned chuckled a little, “It’s okay, there’s always next time.”
The bell that signaled lunch was over rang. The three of you stood up.
“Okay, well I’ll talk to you guys later!” You smiled. “See you tonight, Peter.”
He shyly smiled, “yeah, see you tonight.”

“I think I’m going to do it tonight.”
School had finished without any excitement other than yours for tonight. You had already eaten dinner, and as the time drew closer to ten, you grew anxious.
You were dramatically sprawled out on your bed, with your phone on FaceTime with Ned.
His eyes got wide, “Oh. My. God. You’re crazy.”
You quickly sat up, worried now. “Is that actually crazy? Cause I don’t have to; I mean, it might make things weird.”
Ned chuckled. “No, I meant like, crazy as in you’re a bad-ass. I think tonight is the perfect opportunity to tell Peter you like him; and I’m not just saying that because I gave up spending time with you guys so this could happen.”
You rolled your eyes and stood up, walking over to your closet. “I think I’m just going to wear some sweatpants and a comfy top since it’s supposed to be a sleepover. Or do you think I should wear something nicer since I’m going to be telling him I like him?”
Ned shakes his head. “Definitely the sweatpants. If he doesn’t like you in your comfy look, he doesn’t deserve you in your dazzling look.”
You giggled, “you’re right, thanks Ned.”
“I’m here to help. Let me know how things go between you two. I think things will work out like you want.”
You smiled, “I’ll call you tomorrow! Bye, Ned.”
“See ya.”
You hung up the phone, and put your comfortable clothes on. Your bag was already packed with your overnight gear all ready to go.
You picked it up, and slung the bag over your shoulder.
“Mom, dad! I’m headed out to Peter’s now, love you!”
You parents said their goodbye’s, and you were on your way to Peter’s.
The trip was very short; Peter and you lived only a short distance from one another.
Once you were at his front door, you knocked and were greeted by his Aunt May.
“(Y/N)! Oh my gosh, it’s been too long since you’ve been over!” She grinned, pulling you into a tight hug.
Since you and Peter were always so close, May thought of you as a daughter.
“Hi May! It’s great to see you again. Is Peter back from his internship yet? I know I’m a few minutes early.”
She ushered you inside and shut the door. “No, I don’t think Peter’s back yet. I just got out of the shower so he may have snuck in while I was in there. You can wait in his room if you’d like, Peter won’t mind.”
You smiled, “Okay, thank you May.”
You started to walk down the hall into Peter’s room before May stopped you.”Oh, and (Y/N)?”
You turned around, “yeah?”
May softly smiled at you, “don’t be nervous, dear. I’m sure things will work out.”
You lightly laughed, “how did you know?”
She just shrugged with a playful smile.
You grinned, “I’ll try my best, May. Wish me luck!”
You turned back, and headed for Peter’s room.
In your mind, you were trying to plan out exactly what you were going to say to him, and when. You were thinking about waiting a little bit before dumping all of your emotions onto him. Or you’d do it as soon as you saw him just to get it off your chest once and for all.
As you pushed Peter’s bedroom door open, you saw something you never thought you’d witness. Peter was standing, back towards you in the Spider-Man suit.
When he heard his door creak open, Peter rapidly spun around. His eyes were wide, and his mouth agape. He looked scared and extremely caught off guard that you had just seen him in his outfit.
“Oh, my god.” Is all you could manage.
You stared at Peter with the widest eyes he’d ever seen. Your mouth gobbled open and shut like a fish out of water; you couldn’t find any words to say to him.
He rushed over and pulled you into his room, frantically shutting the door behind you.
“(Y/N)! I didn’t expect you to be here so early.” Peter’s heart was racing. “It’s not what it looks like, I promise.”
You lightly shook your head, “I think it’s exactly what it looks like.”
You walked around him in a circle like a vulture stalking its prey. “You’re Spider-Man, aren’t you?”
Peter’s mouth opened, then shut as soon as it did, trying to come up with a response to you. When he couldn’t think of anything, he sighed. “Yeah, I’m Spider-Man.”
You gasped. Peter honestly could have told you he was just playing dress up as Spider-Man and you would have believed him, but here he is admitting to being the superhero that had been around the city.
“That is so crazy, Peter!” You grinned. “Oh, my god, I’m friends with Spider-Man!”
Your face fell, “oh, my god, I’m friends with Spider-Man.” Oh, no. Why did Peter have to reveal himself as Spider-Man tonight of all nights!
You were freaking out, now. You didn’t want Peter to think you only liked him now that you knew he was Spider-Man! You wanted him to know you liked him for himself, as Peter.
“(Y/N)? Are you alright? I know this can be a lot to take in, but I need you to listen to me.” His eyes were desperate as he tried to talk to you.
You nodded your head and gave him your full attention. “Yeah, I’m okay. Sorry, this just caught me off guard is all.”
He nodded his head, and placed a hand on your shoulder. “I’m sorry, I didn’t want to tell anyone, especially not like this.”
“So I’m the only one that knows?”
“Well, Mr. Stark knows cause he’s the one that gave me this upgraded suit, but yeah. You’re the only other one.”
“Oh, man. This is crazy.”
“You can’t tell anyone, (Y/N), please. If people find out, things will change for me, and I like my life how it is. I didn’t want to tell anyone because the more people that know, the more people there are that could be in danger.”
You nodded your head, and smiled at him, “Don’t worry, Pete, your secret is safe with me.”
Peter let out a relieved sigh, “I knew I could trust you. Sorry you had to find out this way, though.”
Peter presses a button on his chest that released his suit, leaving him in only his boxers.
You face heated up as you scanned you eyes over his toned chest. “Oh my god.” You quickly spun around to not face him once you realized what you were doing.”
Peter’s cheeks were hot as well. “Sorry, I wasn’t thinking when I did that.”
You heard some shuffling around as Peter got changed.
“You can turn around now.”
You do, and see that Peter is in sweatpants and a sweatshirt with his suit hung up in his closet.
He sat on his bed, and motioned you to sit as well.
You do so, and play with your fingers a little bit, now uncertain if it’s a good time to tell him how you feel.
“Hey,” Peter said as he grabbed you hand, stopping your nervous fiddling, “talk to me. I don’t know what’s going on in your head, and it’s freaking me out a little.” He nervously chuckled.
You gently smiled and started to mess with his fingers. “I think it’s really cool what you’re doing for the city. I think you’re really brave for all of this.”
Peter smiled at you, “yeah?”
“Yeah. I’m just worried that you could get hurt from this. You know I care about you, right?” You nervously added.
Peter nodded his head with a smile, “I know you care. I promise, I’m being careful out there, don’t worry.”
You lightly smiled, and looked down at your interlocked fingers.
“So, Ned told me something earlier.”
Your head quickly perked up at that. “Oh, did he?”
Peter rubbed the back of his neck, “yeah, he told me to make sure you tell me the thing you were going to tell me.” He sounded confused. “I don’t really know what he means by that, but he wanted me to make sure you don’t chicken out of it.”
You sighed. “Well, I was going to tell you something, but I don’t know if it’s the right time because of your whole... reveal.”
“Oh, well I’ll still care about what you have to say. Just because you know I’m Spider-Man, doesn’t mean I’m not still Peter.”
You looked up at him and smiled. “Yeah, you’re still Peter.”
He chuckled, and you took in a breath, trying to calm yourself down.
“Well, I’ve been wanting to tell you this for a while now, and I didn’t really know when a good time would be since you’re always at your internship or we’re hanging out with Ned as well. Not that I don’t like hanging out with Ned! I do, it’s just-”
Peter cut off your rambling by grabbing your face and pressing his lips to yours. You were stunned, to say the least. Peter’s lips were soft and gentle against yours. He made no move to escalate things; it was like all he wanted to do was feel your lips against his.
You finally kissed him back, and brought one of your hands to the side of his face. You rubbed your thumb along his cheek as you kissed, loving the feeling of being so close to him.
When you couldn’t take anymore, you pulled back and took a breath of air.
Looking at Peter like this was something you had only dreamed of. His lips were red and puffy from your kiss, and his eyes gleamed with excitement. You could only imagine how you looked.
“Was that what you were trying to tell me?” He cheekily remarked.
You giggled, “that was exactly what I was trying to tell you.”
“Good,” he grinned, “because I really like you, (Y/N), I have for a while now.”
You let out a chuckle, “it’s a good thing I’ve liked you for some time as well.”
Peter bit his lip to try to stop himself from smiling so much. He grabbed your hand and laced your fingers together.
“So, does that mean you’d want to go out with me sometime?” Peter asked, hopefully.
You pretended to think for a minute, then giggled. “Yeah, I’d love to go out with you sometime, but right now I just want to spend our night together like we planned.”
You leaned in closer to Peter, gently pulling him in by the collar of his shirt.
“I like the sound of that.” Peter gently said, right before you placed your lips on his.
You have so much to tell Ned tomorrow.

There’s a distinctive knock on your door that pulls you out of your thoughts as you lay on your bed with an unopened book in your lap. You had been meaning to read the story for the past three months after seeing rave reviews about it online, but for some reason, you couldn’t quite find the energy to start reading. Every morning, you pulled the book from your shelf with the full intention of getting past the first page. But every night, it was returned to the same spot on your shelf, remaining untouched.
With a quiet sigh, you force yourself to crawl out of bed, leaving behind the comfortable warmth of your blankets. You drag your feet as you walk over to the door, dreading the imminent conversation you’re about to have.
To be honest, you’d rather he just leave you alone to wallow in self-pity in the comfort of your own room. You knew he had good intentions, but you dreaded his frequent check-ins with you. If he had no good news to deliver, you didn’t want to see him. And there had been no good news for the past three months.
You have no expectations that today will be any different.
With a hesitant hand on the doorknob, you take a deep breath and try to suppress the bitterness you feel towards the person on the other side of the door. Once prepared, you open the door with a wide grin and a bright twinkle in your eyes.
“Hi Dad!” You greet him with a high-pitched, chipper voice.
Your father looks pleased to see your lively expression. “Good morning, princess. Do you mind if I come in?”
You manage to hide your surprise. Most of his visits consist of a quick hello just to confirm you’re alive in your room, but he heads off to go back to work. If he intends to enter your room, there must be something serious he wishes to discuss. You try to ignore the small glimmer of hope that flutters in your chest.
“Of course!” You waltz over to your bed and sit down, patting the space next to you. Your father sits on the plush bed beside you, twiddling his thumbs idly in his lap.
“I’m aware these past three months have been hard on you, princess,” he begins.
You dig your nails into the palm of your hands and bite your tongue to prevent yourself from spitting out a harsh retort.
Yeah, no kidding.
“They’ve been tough for me too.” He pats your leg comfortingly, giving you a sincere, apologetic look. “I hate seeing you stuck in your room all day, but you know I only do this because I love you and because I want to keep you safe.”
Your father’s words are genuinely heartfelt. There’s no doubt he cares for your well-being and bemoans the unfortunate situation, but you’re not in the mood to be swayed by his guilt.
After all, it’s because of him that you’ve been trapped inside for three long months.
“It’s okay, Dad. I don’t blame you.” You try your best to act like a caring daughter who wants to console her father and assuage his fears that you despise him for his actions. “I know it’s for my own good.”
Three months ago, your father fired your personal bodyguard.
This also meant that three months ago, your father shredded your only ticket to the outside world.
You can only venture outside the family’s property lines if a trained professional, tasked with keeping you safe from potential harm, accompanies you to pre-approved destinations.
Your father worries about your safety in public, because he often does business with local mafia groups in the area. He is not an influential or well-known member of the underground economy, but in this line of work, it isn’t unusual to piss off the wrong person in a deal gone bad. Family members are the most common targets, so you are a natural choice for disgruntled clients to take their frustrations out on.
On one hand, you believe it is unfair that you are forced to live a restricted life under the constant protection of a bodyguard because of your father. You have nothing to do with his business, yet you must suffer from the consequences of it.
On the other hand, there is no doubt that you reap the benefits from the success of your father’s career. You had never worked a day in your life and always received any material goods you asked for, so perhaps you do deserve to face at least a share of the consequences.
Your father is insistent that you must have your own personal bodyguard after an incident involving your mother that occurred when you were just a baby. There was an altercation when she had encountered one of your father’s enemies while doing some errands alone in the city.
It hadn’t ended well, to say the least.
So for three long months, you were stuck inside. To his credit, your father had immediately begun the search for a new bodyguard, but his vetting process was so rigorous that it was not a timely process. There had been some mishaps in the past with previous guardians, and your father had vowed to never let those mistakes happen again.
You know you should be grateful that your father cared about your safety enough to have a dedicated group of his team spend endless hours thoroughly investigating each and every potential candidate. You also know you shouldn’t complain about being trapped in a luxurious mansion, but you hate being at home.
You hate seeing your father’s workers around the premises.
You hate thinking about what sort of shady business deals are happening just a floor below you.
You want nothing to do with it. You don’t even want to think about it, which is why you prefer to spend as much time as possible away from home.
“I’m so glad you understand,” your father says with a relieved sigh. “But I have some good news this time.”
Your breath hitches in the back of your throat. The moment feels almost surreal. You had been waiting to hear those words for so long, you almost thought it would never happen.
“I approved your new bodyguard.”
This time, you didn’t have to fake your excitement.
“Really?” you gasp, looking at your father with wide eyes.
He nods at you.
Unable to contain your burst of elation, you throw your arms around your father with a squeal, giving him a fierce hug. “Thank you! Thank you!”
Your father lets out a hearty laugh, patting your back as he revels in seeing your utter joy. “He starts tomorrow, so you may leave the property again in the morning.”
In less than 24 hours, you are free to once again explore the city, visit popular shops, and stop by your favorite restaurants. You can barely contain your enthusiasm as your heartbeat drums in your chest from the rush of adrenaline after hearing such wonderful news. Pulling away from your father, you continue to beam at him, feeling an unusual wave of gratitude towards the man.
A loud beep disrupts the heartfelt moment.
Your father looks at his smartwatch with a tight frown. “I’m so sorry, princess, but I have to go to a meeting now.” He gets off the bed and gives you a small smile. “I’m glad I could finally give you some good news. I’ll hopefully see you for dinner tonight.”
Before your father can leave, you reel in your scattered thoughts after being almost too excited to think straight. “Dad, before you go, can I at least ask for this name?”
You cannot believe you almost forgot to ask such a crucial question.
“Nanami. Nanami Kento.”
You nod at him. “Thank you! Good luck at your meeting!”
Alone once again, you throw yourself a little celebration which consists of childishly dancing around the room blasting your favorite “good vibes” playlist. Afterward, you grab your laptop and plop onto your bed with a satisfied grin. You crack your knuckles.
It’s time to get to work.
In order to maximize your free time tomorrow, you need to have a rough idea about what you want to do and where you want to go. But before you start the task, you need to make one important phone call.
“Hey, Itadori.”
Itadori Yuuji is one of your father’s henchmen, but he’s a sweet boy who had nowhere else to go when his grandfather died. Luckily, he isn’t directly involved in the main operations of your father’s business. Known for his fast feet and powerful arms, he is mostly used as a source of manual labor to move heavy boxes that are brought in or shipped out of the various underground warehouses scattered throughout the property.
The two of you had become friends when you saw him trying to sneak food out of the main kitchen during the late hours of the night. Only your family and your father’s trusted confidants had permission to be in this part of the mansion.
Itadori immediately got on his knees and begged you not to tell anyone that he was stealing food, but you just laughed and showed him where the good snacks were located. Together, the two of you had a mini feast using the leftovers from the culinary staff. It was the first of many secret dinners to be held.
“Hey. What’s up?” he answers.
“Can you do me a favor?”
“Yeah. Sure.”
“Can you sneak into my father’s office and copy a file for me? It’s someone named Nanami Kento.”
There’s a groan. “Seriously? But you know how hard it is to sneak into his office,” he whines over the phone.
“I’m sorry, Itadori,” you apologize. You know you aren’t making his life any easier, but you need him to do this for you. “But I know you can do it. You’ve done it plenty of times before without a problem.”
Itadori sighs. He knows he can’t refuse you, not because he’s afraid that you’ll turn him in for punishment (or worse). No, Itadori genuinely likes you, and he’s grateful for your presence in his life for many reasons. Therefore, he does whatever he can to help you out whenever you ask.
“Alright. You got it.”
“Thanks, Itadori.”
Several hours later, a manila folder is slipped underneath your door. With a victorious grin, you grab the folder and set it on your desk. You shoot Itadori a quick text confirming that you got the delivery and thanking him once again for his help.
Quivering in anticipation, you open the folder and see a grainy, black and white copy of a man’s photo on top of the stack of papers. Even with the image’s poor quality, you can see the man’s sharp cheekbones and styled, light-colored hair. You think he looks rather handsome, but you’re not quite sure with the fuzziness of the copy.
Setting the photo aside, you read his file with an interested hum. Because of your father’s rigorous vetting process, the folder is stuffed full of numerous background reports. You vaguely wonder how Itadori slid such a large stack of papers under your door.
Nanami Kento, huh.
You flip over a page and continue reading.
What an interesting man.
“Did you finally accept a new job?” Gojo asks curiously, craning his neck to get a better look at the papers spread about on Nanami’s desk. He spots a photo of a woman among the various files that catches his attention. “Who’s that?”
Nanami rubs his face with an exasperated groan, wishing his coworker would mind his own business for once. He tries to hide the photo under other papers, but Gojo is too quick. The white-haired man easily snatches the photo off the desk before Nanami can touch it and waves it in front of him in a teasing manner.
“Nice try,” he grins, pulling back to observe the photo up close. “Oh, she’s pretty cute. I’m guessing she’s your new client?”
“No,” Nanami answers begrudgingly. He knows Gojo won’t return the photo or leave him alone unless he partakes in the conversation. “Technically her father is, but she’ll be the one under my protection.”
“Oh, so you did accept a new job then.” Gojo returns the photo with a satisfied grin now that his original question had been answered. “Surprised it took you this long to choose one. How long has it been since you finished your last assignment?”
“About three months. I wasn’t in a rush to start a new job.”
Nanami can afford to be picky about his assignments now. Over the years, he has built a strong reputation as a proficient bodyguard who always follows orders and always gets the job done. Now that he is well-known in the industry with a long list of satisfied clients, Nanami no longer has to scramble to accept any odd job. Plus, as part of Gojo’s renowned bodyguard service agency, he can rely on the secretaries to filter out any scams or seemingly impossible requests before they reach his desk.
Nanami is now constantly flooded with inquiries from influential celebrities, notorious mafia members, and other wealthy figures. These people are always willing to pay big bucks for an extra sense of security as they go about their lives, but Nanami is no longer interested in solely the money now that his multiple bank accounts are flush with cash. Instead, he wants to take it easy with a simple, straightforward assignment that won’t involve a lot of gunfire, blood, or death.
Being a bodyguard is a lucrative career, but it is also both physically and mentally taxing.
Simply put, Nanami is tired.
This is why he waited three long months to find his next job. With each additional request, he ignored how many zeros were listed as compensation and instead took his time to scrutinize the client, their family, and their motivations in seeking a bodyguard. He had a mental image of what he was looking for in his “perfect” job and much to his surprise, he stumbled upon a request that checked almost every box.
While Nanami was lost in his thoughts, Gojo had secretly snatched your file from the desk and had been skimming through it. He couldn’t resist learning more about this new client.
When Nanami returbs to his senses, he sees the missing file on his desk and glares at his white-haired coworker. Gojo just laughs in response.
“Sorry, sorry. I’m just curious to see what kind of person would pique your interest after all this time, Mr. Picky.” He purses his lips. “Hmm, she’s not much younger than us. Surprised she’s still single too. Aren’t most women in these sorts of families forced to marry early to strengthen business ties? Oh, maybe her personality is so bad her father can’t marry her off to anyone!”
Nanami rips the file out of Gojo’s hands with a scowl. “None of that concerns me.”
“Aww, come on, Nanami,” the white-haired man pouts. “You’re going to be spending a lot of time with her. What is she’s a demon in disguise? Women are pretty scary, you know.”
Nanami figures Gojo skipped the part in the file where your father had described you as a “bright, bubbly young woman who loves to shop and eat”.
“I think I can handle it,” Nanami responds flatly. “After all, I can reasonably get along with everyone except you.”
Gojo clutches his chest dramatically, acting like he had just been shot. “Nanami, you’re so cruel to me!” He then drops his hands and places them on his hips with a devious grin. “Alright, I’ll leave you alone now. Good luck! And don’t fall in love!” He lowers his sunglasses and winks. Gojo can’t help but get in one last jab to irk his coworker.
“You don’t have to worry about that.”
Nanami is a serious professional, one who always plays by the rules. He adheres to a certain set of principles in order to remain successful in this line of work. Without them, situations can get messy, and he has all too often witnessed other bodyguards make the mistake of deviating from protocol and facing the consequences.
There are three fundamental rules that Nanami always follows without fail:
Never go above and beyond what a job asks you to do.
Once a job is finished, leave immediately.
Never get personally involved with a client.
And under no circumstances would he ever disregard any of these rules.

Hi,if Liam would sing and play guitar to pregnant Riley, what song would it be?Please use the guitar of Liam's mum 😊
😭 WHY DIDN'T PB LET THIS HAPPEN???? Oh goodness. That would have been a scene I would have thrown diamonds at to get. It would have been so sweet! I doubt I can do it justice, but I will try 😭
I'm using the lullaby that was sung in a classic movie from the 1950s, Bundle of Joy. My mom is the one to give me my love for classic cinema and she had this particular movie playing often when I was little. I ended up memorizing this song along with the others in it, LOL. I also sang it to my boys when rocking them to sleep. Poor things. They were stuck with my awful singing voice. No wonder they fell asleep so quickly when they were infants 😂
Lullaby In Blue from Bundle of Joy.

Sweet Memories
"Liam?" Drake rounded the corner when he heard something he hadn't heard since he was little.
He saw his friend sitting outside, strumming an old guitar.
"Is that your mom's" he asked.
Liam's cheeks heated with color. "It is." He set it aside and stood up.
Shoving his hands into his pockets, he avoided eye contact.
"I didn't know you played guitar." Drake muttered.
He was curious at Liam's reaction to being caught with it.
"I learned how after her death."
Drake's eyebrow lifted. "You did? How come you never told any of us?"
Liam shrugged. "It was a way for me to hold on to her memory." His brow furrowed. "Now that Riley is pregnant, I want to pass that on to our child." He hesitated. "But I've been trying for weeks now to remember the lyrics to a song my mother used to sing to me."
He felt such guilt over this. Each day, he would tell Riley he was going for a walk around Valtoria. He had been using that as a time to practice and hopefully jog his memory.
It was eating him up inside that he couldn't remember the very song his mother would sing to him at night if he had a nightmare or felt unwell.
"Why is it that I can only recall the melody?" He raked his hands through his hair. "I wish Father was here. Perhaps he knew the song."
Drake folded his arms and tried to think back to anyone who might have heard it. "I bet my dad knew it too."
Liam sat down once more and picked up the acoustic guitar. His fingers moved over the wood as he willed his memories to come back to him.
He could see her so clearly. Her blonde hair in a neat bun. The blue dress that perfectly matched her eyes. Her bright smile as she let him strum while she made the chords.
He could almost hear her laughter when he made up silly lyrics to go along with the music she created. Her sweet encouragement that he too had musical talent.
"Do you like my song for frogs?" His six year old self had asked.
"Like it?" Eleanor reached out and gently ruffled his hair. "I adore it, dearest. I've never heard a more perfect ballad for amphibians."
"I'm running out of time." Liam explained. "In a couple of weeks, the baby will be able to hear us." He turned to Drake. "I wanted one of the first sounds that he or she heard be a song from their grandmother."
"Somebody has to remember it." Drake argued. "Maybe Maxwell or Olivia. They spent time with her too."
Liam felt a glimmer of hope. "They are supposed to arrive tomorrow for a visit." He set the guitar back in the guest house he had hidden it in. "I'll find a way to talk to them without Riley knowing."
"She doesn't know?"
"I wanted it to be a surprise for her too." Liam smiled softly. "I told her I played guitar during our date at Ramsford. She's never heard me play before. This can be something special for her and the baby."
****************
"I remember that!" Maxwell exclaimed. He hummed the rest of the tune.
"You do?" Liam felt his hope grow. " Can you remember the words?"
"Sure." Maxwell hummed the beginning. "Um...it went...hmm." His brow furrowed. "What were the words?"
Liam practically deflated. If Maxwell couldn't remember a song then all hope was most assuredly lost.
"I remember snippets." Maxwell paced back and forth. "Like, Sandman is commin and he'll be here--"
Liam sat up when those words jogged his memory. "Mighty, mighty soon. And if you don't cry--"
"He'll be dropping by with the great big lollipop moon." Maxwell belted out. "I always loved that part of the song. Who wouldn't want the Sandman to bring them a moon shaped lollipop for going to sleep?"
Liam strummed along, repeating the words Maxwell had remembered. He stilled at not recalling any of the others. "How does it begin? Or for that matter, end?"
Maxwell sat down beside him. "It'll come back to you." He patted Liam's back. "Just keep at it."
****************
The next day, Liam took a walk with Olivia.
"I've been digging around some more about Bradshaw and Isabella. Nothing concrete yet, but it never hurts to have something on them." She told him.
Liam wasn't overly concerned at the moment with the monarchs wanting an alliance with Cordonia. "Do you remember my mother's songs she used to sing to us?"
Olivia stilled. "What brought that to mind?"
Liam averted his eyes. "I've been trying to remember a song she would sing to help me sleep. It was some type of lullaby that made me smile. Maxwell remembered part of it, but the beginning lyrics have eluded me."
Olivia began to walk forward again.
He couldn't help but notice how tense she appeared.
"Olivia? Is something wrong?" He jogged to catch up.
He then saw the tears in her eyes.
She took a deep breath. "What difference does it make if you can or can't remember a song?"
He stepped back from the bitterness in her tone. "I wanted to sing it to the baby." He slipped his hands into his pants. "I've been practicing on her guitar and wanted..." He sighed. "I wanted my child to have something precious of my mother's. You remember how much she loved music."
Olivia lowered her eyes. "I do. Queen Eleanor would hum and sing even when walking down the halls."
"I didn't mean to upset you with my question." Liam apologized, regretting the fact he had dragged his friends into this.
"No. I shouldn't have reacted the way I did." She sniffed and squared her shoulders.
Although thoughts of her childhood held a great deal of bitterness, Liam and his mother had been the one bright spot in her lonely existence. She couldn't deny him her help, no matter the heartache those memories contained.
"Now. What song is it?"
Liam led her to the guest house. He strummed the tune and noticed her expression light up in recognition.
Before he could even ask, a clear alto slipped from Olivia's lips as she sang the song.
🎵Hushaby... rockaby. Listen to my lullaby in blue
Bluelululululululu
How I love my pretty baby
Sweet and precious pretty baby
How I love my pretty baby
Honest to goodness I do
See here, Sandman is commin'
And he'll be here
Mighty mighty soon
And if you don't cry, he'll be droppin' by
With a great big lollypop moon🎵
Liam joined in, remembering how the rest was sung with two people. That thought reminded him of the times his mother encouraged his father to join in, their voices blending into a sweet note as they focused on their young child.
🎵Dream dream dream (How I love my pretty baby)
Be an angel
Dream dream dream (Sweet and precious, pretty baby)
Be a darling
I love my pretty baby (How I love my pretty baby)
Honest to goodness I do
Honest to goodness I do
Bluelulululululu🎵
"It's called Lullaby in Blue." Olivia told him. "Your mom sang it to me when I first came to live with you." Her eyes became distant as she thought back. "I asked her to teach it to me so that I could sing it to my stuffed dragon when he had trouble sleeping."
Liam reached over and grasped her hand. "Thank you. I know you don't like thinking of the past," he squeezed her fingers, "but being able to share this song means everything to me."
Olivia slowly smiled. "You better practice then. Your child deserves nothing but the best."
She wrote down the lyrics and left him alone to practice.
When he began to sing the words, he could hear his mother's voice singing too.
***************
A few week's later...
"How are you feeling, my love?" Liam asked one evening.
Riley rested her head on his shoulder. "I'm fine. I think the baby is not too happy I ate those brownies Hana made, but i am determined to not throw them up."
Liam pressed a kiss to the top of her head. "I have a surprise."
"You do?" She sat up with a big smile. "What is it?"
"Wait right here." He left her on the couch to retrieve the guitar.
Her eyebrows raised when he returned with it in hand. "Liam! Is that your mother's?"
He paused before her. "You remembered."
"Of course I do. How could I ever forget our first date?" She patted the spot next to her for him to sit. "You promised me that night that one day you might play for me." Her eyes twinkled with mischief. "I didn't know a girl had to get pregnant to get serenaded around here."
Liam chuckled at that. He was touched that she recalled their date so clearly. That was the best night of his entire social season, well other than seeing her again at the Masquerade Ball.
Hearing she loved him during the Coronation Ball was also up there. If only it had ended differently.
He pushed those memories to the side. "I thought it might be time to start sharing with the baby a song my mother used to sing to me."
Riley's smile turned tender. "I think that sounds wonderful."
She watched, fighting back tears, as he positioned himself on the floor so that he could sing directly to her belly. The expression on his face as he began the lullaby was one that touched her heart.
His love and wonder for their unborn child was stamped across his handsome features. Each word he sang was done so with a smile unlike any she had ever seen before.
When he ended the song, he pressed a kiss to her baby bump.
"I hope you liked that." He gently rubbed her tummy. "It was a favorite of mine from my mother. I wish you could have met her. She was the kindest, most gentle woman I have ever met." His hand moved to hold Riley's. "We're lucky though that you have a mother just as wonderful as mine was."
"Liam." Riley gave up on not crying.
He pressed a kiss to her hand before continuing. "I love you and your mother more than anything. I intend on you hearing that every single day I am blessed to have with you." His fingers tangled with Riley's. "That song is a reminder of just how beloved you already are to both of us."
Riley tugged him back on the couch. She kissed him, whispering how much she loved him, how happy he made her.
The two cuddled together and thought of the day coming soon when their family would at last be complete.

Winter Storm
Jared Padalecki x Reader
Summary: You play Cordell Walker’s daughter on the new show Walker. Jared takes you under his wing. What happens when a winter storm hits all of Texas.
Warnings: Mentions of a rough upbringing, Texas winter storm, power outage, water problems, some angst, scary weather, fluff, protective Jared, maybe a cuss word somewhere
A/N: As a Texan, this past week has been scary. I have been extremely blessed to not have the problems that a lot are. I was lucky and did not lose power and did not have any pipes burst. This idea came to me after seeing that Jared and Gen were helping others while dealing with their own problems at their house.

Winter weather will be hitting Texas this weekend. You can expect lots of snow and ice. It is best to prepare for possible power outages and water being turned off. That is worst case scenario, but be prepared as Sunday will be a cold one.
You panicked. Growing up in North Texas you never had to deal with severe winter weather. You were used to dealing with tornados. But the way they were talking on the news, this weekend was going to be bad.
Thankfully you had the day off and were able to go to the store. You grabbed a case of water and food that you could prepare and food that didn’t have to be cooked to eat. You were still getting used to the adult life as an 18 year old, but since you had been taking care of yourself the last few years, you learned a thing or two in the kitchen. You made sure to grab some snacks as well since they didn’t have to be cooked or stored in the fridge either.
As you pulled up to your apartment building, you got a call from the lead and producer of the show you were on. You still weren’t sure how you managed to land the role of Stella in the new show Walker, but you were grateful. You put the car in park and grabbed your phone.
“Hey Jare.” You said. Jared was the older brother you always wanted, even though he plays your dad and he has moments where he acts like your dad. You didn’t have a great life growing up and to have a male figure in your life to help you in anyway, made you happy. Same thing with Gen.
“Hey Y/N/N. How’re you doing?” He asked.
“I’m doing good. Just got back from the store. Am I needed on set?” You asked in a panic thinking you missed something.
“No, no you’re not needed. Just wanted to call and tell you we are not filming Monday or Tuesday next week. And depending on the weather and roads, we may cancel Wednesday as well.” He informed you.
“Oh. Is it because of the storm?” You asked.
“Yeah. We aren’t sure how bad it’ll be, but we are hoping we are just being over cautious.” He said. “You said you went to the store?”
“Yeah. I just wanted to get something’s so I won’t have to get out. And I got some stuff. I won’t need to cook in case we lose power. Also filled up with gas in case I lose heat and need to warm up some.” You told him.
“Come stay with us. We have plenty of room and we have a fireplace. We just restocked our firewood supply. I don’t want to be worrying about you all weekend.” He said.
“I’ll be okay. Really. Thank you for the offer though.” You said nicely. You really did mean it. You were used to taking care of yourself that when people did want to help you, you appreciated them.
“Well. I have my truck if I need to come get you. If you change your mind, come over. The kids would love to see you.” He said. You heard Gen agree with him in the background. “And Gen would too.”
“Well after the storm, I’ll come over for dinner to see everyone. And I’ll even come another night to babysit so you and Gen can go on a date.” You said with a laugh once you heard Gen immediately laugh.
“Gen says you don’t have to, but I will take you up on both offers.” Jared told you. “Okay. Well stay in touch. They say it’ll start sometime tomorrow night.”
“Y’all stay safe and stay in touch too.” You said. “Bye Jare.”
“Bye Y/N/N.” He said before hanging up. You put your phone back into your pocket before lugging all of the groceries into your apartment. You put everything away before going to change out of your winter clothes.
After changing into some PJs to be comfortable. You decided to meal prep some so you wouldn’t have to worry about it later. And if the weather isn’t as bad as they think it’ll be, you can just eat them throughout the week.
Sunday morning, you woke up and looked outside. All you could see was white fluffiness. You smiled as the world looked at peace. You loved snow. You always thought it brought beauty to the world.
When you walked back to your phone where it laid on its charger, you saw a couple of texts from Jared and Gen. Both had sent you photos of Tom, Shep, and Odette playing the in the snow. Then you saw Jared’s text about possible rolling power outages.
You picked up the phone and called Jared and before he could even say hello, you asked, “What does that mean? Your text... I don’t understand it.”
“It means they’ll shut the power off for an hour to three hours to preserve energy.” Jared said.
“Oh.” You said.
“Yeah, so if the power goes out, don’t worry, it should come back on.” He reassured you.
“Okay. Thank you for letting me know.” You replied.
“Of course. How are you doing anyways?” He asked.
“Good. Just woke up. Felt good to sleep in. I’m probably about to start warming up my lunch.” You informed him. “How are y’all handling it over there? I saw the pics you and Gen sent. The kids look like they’re having a blast.”
“We’re doing good. The kids are definitely loving the snow. I did have to help Gen gather the chickens this morning which wasn’t fun.” He said with a laugh.
“Oh gosh. Yeah chasing chickens isn’t fun. Are they okay? I didn’t even think about y’all’s animals?”
“They’re all in the barn with heat lamps. Thankfully the barn is powered by solar so we don’t have to worry too much if the power goes out since we have a lot of energy stored up.” He said.
“Good that’s good. Well I’ll let you get back to doing whatever you were doing. Thanks again for letting me know.”
“Anytime. If you need something, holler. Okay?” He asked.
“I will. Bye.” You said. You heard his farewell as you went to hang up the phone. After preheating the oven, you took the lasagna and boxed garlic bread out of the freezer. You figured, while the power was still on, you could cook the one meal you prepped that couldn’t be eaten cold until you cooked it and it was leftovers.
An hour later, you sat at the counter charging your phone and iPad while you ate. When you went to take another bite, the power cut off.
“Great.” You whispered. You knew it was only going to be for a few hours, but you were a little aggravated by the inconvenience. You stood up and went and put on thicker sweatpants and your socks. When you made it back to your phone to text Jared that your power went out, you saw you barely had any service. That concerned you in case you needed to make a call for an emergency.
Power just went out. Hopefully y’all didn’t lose power. I’ll let you know when it’s back on. Sent 1:23 pm
You continued to eat as you awaited a response. Shrugging when you finished your meal and put the dirty dish in the sink, you moved to the living room to read a book you started the night before.
Hours later, you still had no power and you still hadn’t heard from Jared or Gen. You had checked social media, but neither had posted anything. You decided to scroll through Twitter and saw the horrors of people’s pipes bursting and roofs caving in flooding their homes.
Seeing people in Austin posting that, you decided to grab a tote to store your valuables in. Sadly, it wasn’t a lot, but the idea of losing what little you had that meant something to you scared you.
You needed to go to your car to charge your phone and warm up some, so you decided to store your valuables in the trunk. Thankfully you had a covered parking space that was right in front of your apartment. When you put the tote in the trunk, you checked to make sure the tail pipe was clear of snow before you started the car.
After spending an hour in the car, you decided it was time for bed. Grabbing every piece of blankets you had, you cuddled up in Jared’s hoody that you stole from him when you filmed episode 2 of Walker and all the blankets. You even had on two pairs of socks on since you got cold earlier.
The next morning, you checked to see your phone still had more than half its battery life left. But what shocked you was still no response from Jared. You got on Instagram and saw that Gen had posted a boomerang of him with his socks on as gloves, but neither had checked in with you.
You were kind of upset by this. You knew they didn’t owe you anything, but it still hurt. Going to the kitchen, you saw it was flooded.
“Oh no. Oh no. Nonononono.” You panicked. You ran to the bathroom and grabbed all the towels you owned and rushed back to the kitchen. You threw them down to try and absorb as much water as possible. You opened the cabinet and saw the pipe that had burst. You grabbed your phone and called the landlord.
“Hey Craig. I had a pipe burst this morning.” You said when he answered.
“Can’t do much with the weather like this.” He said not really caring.
“Can you turn the water off or something? Or tell me where it is and I’ll do it.” You said getting angry.
“Can’t do that either. If I do that, your neighbors lose their water too.” He said.
“Well what am I supposed to do. Just sit in water all day?” You asked with an annoyed tone.
“City’s running out of water anyway so they may shut it off. So won’t be long before it stops.” He said. You got so mad that you hung up. He was useless.
After 3 hours, all of your towels were soaked and you started using some of your clothes to help absorb what the towels couldn’t. You had tried calling Jared to see if he knew what to do but it went straight to voicemail. Same with Gen.
After using most of your clothes to stop the water, you decided to pack a bag in case you had to leave. Plus it would let you know what you could use to absorb the water that still remains. Thankfully your landlord had turned the water off after multiple people called about pipes bursting. All you had to do was finish cleaning up the mess.
Two days later, you were sitting in your car, about to go back into your apartment when you got a call from Gen.
“Y/N. Oh my gosh it’s so good to hear from you. We haven’t had service, plus we lost power and had a few pipes burst. Are you okay?” She asked worriedly.
“I’m okay. Sitting in my car right now so I could charge my phone and warm up a bit.” You told her.
“You don’t have power still?” She asked.
“Nope. And I also had a pipe burst. But I cleaned it up and nothing was damaged. Did you have any damage done? Is everyone okay?” You asked concerned.
“Yeah. We are fine. And just minimal floor damage.” She told you. “Jared is cleaning that mess up while I’m going to the store. Do you need anything? We have some of our neighbors over trying to stay warm and I’m grabbing them stuff too. So I don’t mind getting you anything.”
“I’m okay. I have plenty.” You said. You wanted heat. You wanted to sleep without having to wear five layers, but you refused to ask.
“Well if you do need something, text or call. Hopefully we get service back.” She said.
“I will. Thanks Gen.” you said as you hung up. Ten minutes later you got a call from Jared.
“Pack a bag and bring some blankets.” He said before you could even greet him.
“What?” You asked genuinely confused.
“I said, pack a bag and bring some blankets. Also if you want to bring any food you don’t want to go to waste or if you have water, bring that too. I’ll come in and help you carry.” He said.
“Wh-wait.. what is happening?” You asked.
“I’m coming to get you and you are going to stay with us for a couple of days. I just got off the phone with Gen and she said you had a pipe burst and you don’t have heat. So you are going to come stay with us until your power is back on and the pipe is fixed.” He said. “I’m pulling up. I’ll be inside in a second.” He hung up before you could say anything.
You went and unlocked the door before moving to your room. You grabbed your big suitcase and packed what few pair of pants you had, a weeks worth of underwear, two weeks worth of socks since you hated having cold feet, and the remaining three sweaters and seven shirts you had. It barely filled your suitcase so you decided to throw in a couple of hoodies as well.
“That all your packing?” Jared asked concerned. No one knew how long this was going to last.
“It’s all I got clean.” You answered honestly.
“No way.” He said in disbelief. You shrugged and told him to follow you as you walked into the kitchen. He saw the pile of clothes and towels on the ground. “Oh Y/N. I’m sorry this happened to you.”
“Happened to you too.” You said before moving back to your room. You grabbed a blanket and started to fold it, starting a pile you were taking with you to the Padalecki’s. Once you finished that, you grabbed your pillow too.
“Want any books or anything? You have room in your suitcase.” Jared said as he pointed to it. You shrugged and grabbed a few books you had been wanting to read. After throwing them into the suitcase, you ran to the living room to grab your iPad and chargers.
“We can charge them in the cars if we need to.” Jared said when you thought about not putting them in your bag. You nodded before throwing them in and zipping it up. “This ready to go to the truck?” You nodded once again before he grabbed the suitcase handle and stack of blankets and your pillow with ease. “Go figure out food and I’ll come back to help.”
Once in the kitchen, you grabbed the full water case you had bought a few days before and the almost empty one that you had already opened. You then moved to the fridge to grab the few casserole dishes you had left to eat. You grabbed your travel food carrier and put the casseroles in first before the almost empty case of water in after it. You saw Jared walking back in and asked,
“Is there any food of mine you want? I’ve got everything packed that will definitely go bad before I get back. The rest has already gone bad.” You said while looking at Jared who was looking through your cabinets. He found your snack one and grabbed a few things and shoved them in your carrier.
“That’s all I want.” He smirked. “Ready to go? We can come back in a couple of days if we need to.”
“Ready.” You walked to his truck and he helped you load the water and carrier. As you got into the passenger seat and started to buckle, you said, “thanks for coming to get me and letting me stay with you.”
“Anything for family.” He said smiling at you before driving carefully back to his house.
“But we aren’t family?” You said more as a question.
“You’re my tv daughter, so technically we are.” He said with a laugh. “But in all seriousness, I do see you as family. Me and you have gotten close over these past few months. I can see you as a daughter and I can see you as a little sister.” You could hear the sincerity in his voice.
“Really?” You asked. He nodded his head. “It means a lot to hear you say that. I see you as a big brother.”
“Good.” You saw him smile. “That means you can ask me for anything or do anything and I’ll be there for you. Sorry I didn’t come get you sooner. I thought about it.”
“It’s okay. I tried calling but could never get through. It happens. I’m just glad nothing more serious happened. I’m glad we are all safe.” You said honestly.
“And we are about to get you warm. We have the fire going in the living room and in mine and Gen’s room. Kids have been sleeping with us or on the floor in our room. You’re welcome to make a pallet in front of the fire and crash there.” He said as he pulled into his driveway.
“Sleeping in front of a warm fire sounds lovely right now. Thank you.” You leaned over and gave him a big hug. “I love you Jare.” You said before pulling back to kiss his cheek.
“Love you too y/n/n.” He smiled at you. “Now let’s go take all this in and get you warmed up.”

“Excuse me?”
“Consider yourself excused darlin’,” his smirk turns to a wide eyed realisation. Staring at his empty cup and then back at you, you can almost see him connecting the dots, “shit.”
Tumblr media
Welcome to the official broadcast of the Men's Volleyball World Cup! Coming to you from Japan, we are your hosts-
The noise of the Sports Channel cuts through your jetlagged snooze. Somewhere between putting on makeup and putting on an outfit, you'd laid down for a few moments. The next thing you knew you were waking up to a clock, red digits angrily telling you it’s 8:30pm and time to get your ass moving.
You swap channels with a dazed head and bleary eyes, finding anything but the grunts and shouts that are currently affronting your senses. Why do they call it a kill? Something about it sounding cool or masculine flits through your mind. Not your scene, whatever the reason.
Yells and cheers change to piano and violins. Instrumental music fills the hotel room, a much nicer way to come round after accidentally passing out. The pairs skaters move round the rink in effortless serenity, as if their muscles aren’t screaming and bodies tired from endless practice.
The same practice you’ll be starting tomorrow, after your last night of freedom. Then it’ll be the hell of early mornings, routines being repeated until you can see them in your sleep, maybe seeing a little of Japan and then you're off home. Simple and easy, no room for distraction and not much room for going out. So tonight calls for a copious amount of sake.
Changing from sweats to a skirt, you watch the couple on screen skate and spin, meeting each required element the judges want to see. Using the music and movements to tell you a story as a pair. It’s a style that rests heavy in your bones, something you are entirely familiar with. Though for the last few years, it’s been done solo, rather than as a duo.
The casters talk about how moving the performance is, full of love and subtext. You don’t see it, maybe distracted by finishing getting ready. Sake calls your name, as well as your coach Faiz, who’s texting you non-stop asking if you’ll ever be ready, and it’s time to forget competition for a night.
The bar is more than a little crowded, packed with patrons ranging from regulars, tourists, and of course, competitors. You meet with a couple of other countries' skaters and the group is ripe with laughter and warmth, sharing stories of the last season and teasing each other about past competitions.
With no booths open, you form a small group of Faiz and another skater from Japan, Makito. Music and a particularly rowdy group of guys behind you mean you each have to raise your voice. But by the second shot, their cackles and jokes are a gentle buzz, and you can forget about any upcoming nerves.
Sandwiched between Faiz and Makito, the sake-induced exaggeration in your words is making both men tease the hell out of you.
“Oh yeah, and then what happened?”
“So, there I am right, trying out pairs for the first time. Coach, not him,” you jab Faiz in the ribs, him yelping at the sensation, “an old one—”
“Aw, calling me young? I’m honoured!”
“Shut it. Old, but not that much older than Faiz, wanted to try me out in pairs. My energy was perfect, no, my passion was perfect. That’s what he said.”
“Ooo, passion,” Makito wiggles his eyebrows at you, pouring more alcohol in your glass.
“Don’t you start- I’m trying to tell you a story! So, we’re out there, he has to put me in a lift with my skates on his thighs.”
“Thighs?! How scandalous!”
“Makito, I swear. I’m on his thighs- no, don’t even-” you push a finger to Maikto’s lips before he can even smirk, “he trips, and so of course I do, and my blade cut right in the joint and he goes completely white, and then he’s just sitting there on the ice, crying, blubbering, just stammering out ‘m-my—”
“—you dick!” There’s a yelp behind you and a body crushing against yours. A chill spreads from your shoulder and down to your chest. All you feel is cold. Then wet. Then cold and wet.
Turning, you find a tall blonde with an empty cup standing blissfully unaware. The glass looks guiliter than him. He’s laughing and pushing back against a smaller ginger. Does he even realise that you’re sitting there soaked in his beer?
“Excuse me?”
“Consider yourself excused darlin’,” his smirk turns to a wide eyed realisation. Staring at his cup and then back at you, you can almost see him connecting the dots, “shit.”
“Oh no, please, don’t worry about an apology. I’m grand.”
Faiz lets out a low whistle, well aware of how the sarcasm lacing each word can sting. Makito is almost entranced by it, eyes wide and flicking between you and the man.
“I’m guessin’ now would be a bad idea to pull the whole, ‘hi grand, I’m Atsu—’”
“Are you kidding me?”
You push off from the bar, leaving your cohorts for the bathroom, hoping to wring some beer from your sodden shirt.
“No no no, hey, c’mon.” The klutz is following you. Before you reach the bathroom, a large hand wraps around your arm, and you turn to see the grin one again on his features.
“I’m sorry for the drink, my friend and I just got a little excited!” Is he a puppy? “You know how guys night is. I can definitely make it up to you.”
“Oh really?”
“Yeah!” Oh god, he is a puppy, eyes lighting up at the slightest hint of your demeanor cooling. You take a closer look at him, travelling the height of his body in your analysis. He’s broad, tight white tee clinging to his shoulders as if it’s hanging on for dear life. Handsome, your drunken mind thinks. Stupidly handsome. “I could get you a seat for the World Cup.”
Stupid and handsome? “It’s not the World Cup, it's called an Open.”
“I’m pretty sure it’s the World Cup, darlin’”
At this point it’s not only the wet shirt that makes the bathroom call your name, but also escaping the arrogant know-it-all in front of you.
“Whatever you say, stranger. I don’t need a seat, I’m competing,” a hand gestures down to your shirt, “and I need to fix this mess. So thank you for the offer, but I’m golden.”
“Hi Golden, I’m Atsu—”
You head into the bathroom before he can finish.
That seems to have gone spectacularly wrong. Although, not many good things start by ruining someone’s shirt. It wasn’t like he didn’t apologise, even if it did take some reminding. But Atsumu gave you his best smile, no, smoulder. You wouldn’t even take his name, or prized tickets to the tournament.
Not a fan of Team Japan. Fine.
Atsumu sighs and starts to walk away, ready to leave the corridor outside the bathroom and head back towards his friends. But then there’s that annoying pang of guilt. He did destroy your shirt. The smell of stale beer is enough to put most people off. Maybe he could offer to buy a new one, or at least a drink.
No, you don’t even want seats to watch him set. Half the people in this city are only here to watch volleyball, and yet you— Wait.
‘I’m competing’.
Now that was a bold faced lie. And for some reason there’s curiosity settling nicely next to the guilt in his stomach. As much as Atsumu tunes out when Foster or Meian start going over the next competition, the logistical side anyway, he knows that this is a men’s only cup.
He’s halfway across the bar before he spins on the ball of his foot. Leaning against the wall he waits, and you appear out the ladies room looking slightly less drowned.
How many times have you eye-rolled since meeting him? Well, add another to the count.
Moving straight past him, he turns to match your pace, which given the length of your strides actually leads him to shorten his own.
“Hey, Golden.”
“Golden— are you actually a dad?”
“God, I hope not.”
You couldn’t look more irritated but Atsumu thinks he catches a little smile threatening to break through your iced features. As if it’s to hide that fact your brows furrow deeper.
“Anyways, Goldie, you’re competin’?” he takes your nod as a sign to continue, walking back to the main bar area, “how come I haven’t seen you around?”
You don't quite understand the teasing tone in his questions. “Clearly not paying enough attention.” Your voice is lighter, much to Atsumu’s glee.
“As if I could miss you.”
“Hah,” well that didn’t last long. The pair of you have reached back to your respective groups, but still stand between them. All the sarcasm (and sake) catches up with you and finally, looking up at him, your face widens into a smile. “Very smooth. Almost as smooth as tipping your drink over me.”
The pink that tints his cheeks is very enjoyable. The way they round out when he grins too.
“Let me buy you a drink.”
"Are you going to spill it again?"
"C'mon, trust me, Goldie."
"I don't even know your name."
"And whose fault is that?"
His mouth goes from ear to ear, and he sticks out a hand, large and strong. “Atsumu. And you?"
You narrow your eyes for a half second, as if your brain is already trying to make a decision. Weighing up the company and the drink.
He flexes his hand and you take it, introducing yourself.
"Peace treaty and a drink?" He phrases it as a question but Atsumu is already nestling himself at the bar and calling over the server. He takes your order and another Asahi for himself.
You catch Faiz’s eye, and he slants a brow. The years of coaching have you both understanding your own language, and with a shrug of your shoulders he understands. Now both eyebrows sit high on his head, a reminder that you have practice tomorrow. Early practice.
Atsumu catches yet another roll of your eyes, this time at least not directed at him. He hands you your drink and following your eye line he sees Faiz and Maikto, which immediately prompts, "I'm not stealin' you from a jealous boyfriend, am I?"
You almost choke on your drink.
"Don't worry, it wouldn't stop me."
You choke on your drink.
"Are you trying to make me dislike you, or?"
"I'm kiddin', kiddin'! Half kiddin', like definitely a quarter kiddin'!"
God he enjoys how much you try to stop smiling. It's like a little competition right here on your features, one he's determined to win.
And so you drink, and drink some more. Conversation is light, and devolves into joking insult every few sentences. It becomes harder not to let the corners of your lips turn up. At some point a man who looks like an owl comes over, all high energy and giggles. Are all of Atsumu's friends puppy dogs?
"Are you coming back to the table or has someone got your attention?"
You raise an eyebrow at the blonde across from you, him sitting with a sheepish grin.
“So Atsumu, has someone got your attention?” You’re almost surprised with how confident your intoxicated state comes across with two relative strangers.
“I like her already!” he moves to sit down with you both.
“Bo, don’t you dare. We’re busy.”
“Oh are we?”
Atsumu can only pout for so long before your smug smile wins him back over. He blames the alcohol for not giving you more shit. And maybe your pretty face. There’s that warm fuzzy feeling in his stomach as he locks eyes with you.
“We are. And we’re going. I’ll see you back at the hotel, Kou?”
Before you know it he’s grabbing your hand, pulling you from your seat. And strangely, you don’t protest for a second.
One final warning glance is shared between you and Faiz, and a promise with widened eyes is made.
He keeps holding your hand, and you both walk with no real direction for a while. You both sway a little, and your hand comes to his muscular bicep more times than necessary to keep balance.
There’s fairy lights decorating the trees outside the hotel. Your hotel, you note. There’s continuous banter back and forth, none of you quite wanting to lose the conversational battle. But finally, there’s a pause.
You’re looking up at him, eyes wide and bright. His hands are in his pockets, as he cocks his head down at you.
“I really wanna kiss you.”
“You can, if you’d like.”
And so he does. It’s warm and sweet for a moment, before his hands find their way to your waist, pulling you against his firm stomach. They travel down, squeezing the plump of your ass. Separating for a moment, you both pant, breath fanning each other's lips.
This time it’s you who speaks first, “one last drink?”
The only thing you drink in is one another. Each of you pour a little of yourselves into the other. Pressing together in the elevator. Making it a few steps until it’s a wall. You find the room, and Atsumu’s hands find purchase on your hips, making you walk backwards until your knees hit the bed. You fall upon it together with intoxicated giggles. Then sighs. Then moans.
As you curl together, your breaths slowing and eyes fluttering shut, Atsumu wonders what on earth your plan was with that lie. Competing in the Men’s World Cup? Bringing his arm around you, Atsumu decides he’ll quiz you about it in the morning.
Hopefully winning a few more smiles from you too.

Daddy Issues Lucius Malfoy x Daughter! Reader
Tiktok has done its magic and my obsession with Lucius Malfoy has sparked. Or it might just be my daddy issues acting up again, who know lol. Anyways, reader is Draco’s twin, a Gryffindor, and is basically the Sirius Black of the Malfoy family. She/her pronouns used. No warnings. Though you should know this is my first fanfic after going MIA on Wattpad and Quotev for a few years whoopsies.
Takes place over the course of first year. Listen to “Daddy Issues” by the Neighbourhood while reading to set the mood.
I might make this into a multiple part story. But not follow the scenes strictly, just random drabbles here and there?? Idk, hopefully this won’t flop lol.

Daddy Issues
You ask me what I'm thinking about I'll tell you that I'm thinking about Whatever you're thinking about Tell me something that I'll forget And you might have to tell me again It's crazy what you'll do for a friend
“Now, Y/N. Just like your brother did it. Just run straight through that brick wall, and you’ve made.” Your mother, Narcissa, says gently patting you on the back to motivate you.
You bit your lips to hide your nerves. Straight through it, huh? Oh, merlin. What if it decides I’m not good enough for it. I’ll surely make a fool out of myself.
You grip tightly around your trolley, “Are you sur-”
“We don’t have all day now, darling. The train leaves at eleven, sharp. Enough twisting with your thumbs and get a move on.” Your father cuts you off.
You grimace. Your relationship with your father, the oh so great Lucius Malfoy, wasn’t the best, at least at the moment. Don’t get it wrong, you’re his precious baby girl, the absolute apple of his eye, but you have a few, in his words, tweaks in your personality that his purist mindset just did not share.
Go ahead and cry, little girl Nobody does it like you do I know how much it matters to you I know that you got daddy issues And if you were my little girl I'd do whatever I could do I'd run away and hide with you I love that you got daddy issues And I do too
It began when you received your Hogwarts letter on your 11th birthday earlier that summer.
“Dad! I got my letter!” You say, racing down the steps of the Malfoy Manner to see your father.
He replies from his study room with a, “Don’t run, you’ll fall, Y/N.”
You roll your eyes, always so overprotective. When you reach him you wave the letter in front of him, “Look! I finally got it!”
He stops reading his book and looks up, all while shifting from his area on the velvet green armchair to make room for you. You immediately take a seat in the small space.
“Let’s see what we have here now, shall?” You nod your head at him as he opens the letter. “Ah yes, Hogwarts. Truly shocking how they want someone with the likes of you on their grounds.”
He has a twinkly in his eye when he says this. You know he’s joking though, that’s just the interactions between you two.
You grab his face with your hands to get his attention, “Are you going to miss me?”
“Miss you? My own and only daughter who wakes up every morning with a mission to have my hair turn grey early. Miss you, you say?”
“Dad,” you groan.
He hides a smirk, “Happy birthday, my dear. You’ll make a wonderful Slytherin and teach those mudbloods who’s in charge.”
About that..... “Dad, no.”
“Pardon?”
“Stop that, don’t call them mudbloods. And what makes you so sure I’ll be put in Slytherin?”
“Ha,” he lets out a bark of laughter. “There’s never been a Malfoy that fit in any other house. That’s absurd.”
I tried to write your name in the rain But the rain never came So I made with the sun The shame always comes at the worst time
You look down.
“Y/N.” You look back at your father.
His grey eyes that mirror yours perfectly, look at you coldly “Don’t bring shame to the Malfoy family. Remember that.”
You ask me what I'm thinking about I'll tell you that I'm thinking about Whatever you're thinking about Tell me something that I'll forget And you might have to tell me again It's crazy what you'll do for a friend
“Make me proud.” Your father says, right before you enter the train.
He flashes you one of his rare, genuine smiles and kisses you on the forehead.
You heard him, Y/N. Make father proud.
Go ahead and cry, little girl Nobody does it like you do I know how much it matters to you
You find the first empty compartment you see on the train. Your brother already went off with some of the other pureblood children. And you’re not exactly fond of them.
There’s a boy with glasses and another with red hair when you enter.
“Ehm, hi...” You awkwardly say.
The boy with glasses smiles at you. “Hi there.”
“Would it be alright if I sat here?”
“Sure, take a seat.”
I know that you got daddy issues And if you were my little girl I'd do whatever I could do I'd run away and hide with you I love that you got daddy issues
You learn the two boys you sat with were Harry Potter and a Weasley named Ron. They were charming, although you were sure your father would disagree. Luckily you didn’t tell them your last name. Who knows what outburst that’d cause from the redhead.
You stand next to them as students get called up to get sorted.
Your stomach feels like it’s being shaken by mountain trolls and you try to control your breathing.
“GRYFFINDOR”
“RAVENCLAW”
“HUFFLEPUFF”
The sorting hat continues to call out the names of the houses as the students go up, one by one.
Your twin gets called.
Just as Draco takes a seat, the hat doesn’t even touch his head when it yells-
“SLYTHERIN”
Draco has a look of pride on his face. Typical.
“As expected,” mutters Ron to you and Harry.
“Y/N Malfoy”
Oh dear. Your turn.
“ -wait you’re his twin?” Harry look sat you confused.
You see your twin brother flash you a thumbs up.
You ignore them both and step forward.
“Another Malfoy I see. But you’re more interesting than the rest. Unexpected. Ambitious? Yes, very much so but there’s also bravery. Lots of it too.” The sorting hat says.
No! You’re yelling in your head. Bravery? That’s Gryffindor. Please no. Father would disown me.
“Slytherin then? No, no no. Tell daddy he’s in for a surprise because Slytherin not fit for you. You fit in-”
“GRYFFINDOR!” The hat exclaims.
The whole hall murmurs. “A Malfoy? Not in Slytherin?” “Gryffindor? Merlin, someone alert the Daily Prophet.”
You get nudged towards the Gryffindor table, slowly you make your way.
You hear a voice, “Well Fred, you know what this means.”
“I sure do, George.”
“WE GOT A MALFOY! WE GOT A MALFOY!” They chant and slowly the rest of the table begins to cheer loudly. The Slytherin’s table watches in awe.
Your brother refuses to make eye contact with you. Your stomach drop at that.
I keep on tryin' to let you go I'm dyin' to let you know How I'm getting on I didn't cry when you left at first But now that you're dead, it hurts This time, I gotta know Where did my daddy go?
“First years! Follow me!”
You begin to line up with the other first years. You stand near Ron and Harry. Ron gives you a suspicious look.
“I’m sorry.” You blurt out. “I should have told you I’m a Malfoy.”
“You really shou-” Ron begins to say.
“No, it’s alright.” Says Harry. “You had your reasonings. Besides the point” he give Ron a sharp look, “You’re in Gryffindor now, that’s all that matters.”
“All that matters?” Uh oh, it’s your brother. “Wait until father hears about this. He’ll be mortified. You can kiss your spot on the family tree goodbye Y/N.” He looks disgusted at you.
“Leave her alone!” A first year girl with puffy hair and large teeth says.
“And what are you going to do about it, mudblood.”
That sits off a rage off anger in you.
“Oh shut it you prick!” Your brother looks at you, shocked. “I’ve had enough with your bigotry. Go ahead, tell father. We all know how much you want to be his favorite child, you kiss up!” You let out a angry sigh at that.
“Well then, keep an eye out for a letter tomorrow morning by him. How does a Howler sound?”
The girl with the puffy hair grabs your arm. “Come on”
“You know, I think you and I will get along just great.”
I'm not entirely here Half of me has disappeared
It had been a few days since the sorting ceremony. Classes were already in full swing.
You became very close friends with Hermione Granger, the girl who helped you out when your brother was acting like a complete, wild ferret. However, you and her got along quite well. You two had similar interests and were very dedicated in your classes. Granted you knew a bit more than her since you were taught were carefully by your father.
Speaking of father, you haven’t heard from him yet. But there’s no doubt in your mind that Draco hasn’t sent a letter yet.
You shake out of your thought and make your way to the great hall. You spot the Weasleys and Harry and make a bee-line to them.
“Hey there, mate!” One of the twins nod in your direction.
“No mail yet?” You immediately ask the lot.
“Blimey, at least eat something first before you start interrogating us.” Ron mumbles, his cheeks filled with food.
Harry shakes his head, “Not yet, expecting a letter?”
“You could say that.” You groan.
You grab a piece of toast and spread butter over it when you hear the sounds of the owls flying into the great hall. You quickly scan them over, keeping your eyes peeled for any Malfoy family owls.
You look over to your twin, an owl drops a package of goodies. Must be from mother, you think bitterly in your head. You didn’t get a package.
The thought makes your stomach drop. They must know then.
“Huh, would you look at that. It’s a howler!” Percy Weasley points out.
The twins glace at you.
“Y/N....” One of the twins begin to say.
The howler drops right in front of you. Oh grandfather Abraxas, please help me.
In fancy calligraphy that you recognize very well, the name Lucius Malfoy is written.
“So... are you going to open that?” George asks with an eyebrow raised.
“The longer you wait, the louder it’ll be. But hey this is Lucius Malfoy so you don’t really have much luck any way.” Fred jokes, trying to lighten the mood.
You hands shake as you hold it, “Should- should i open it?”
“It’s going to burst any second, no need for that.” Harry look bewildered.
“Oh to hell with it.“ You open the letter.
“Y/N NARCISSA MALFOY!” Your father’s voice booms, the great hall quiets down to listen in. “A GRYFFINDOR?? NEVER IN THE MALFOY FAMILY NAME HAS THIS HAPPENED BEFORE. A BLOOD TRAITOR IS WHAT YOU ARE. IT DISGUSTS ME TO CALL YOU A CHILD OF MINE.”
Your face turns an unnatural shade of red but the howler continues in a calmer voice. “My own child, my little girl. Tarnishing the family name like this. Absurd. Don’t even think about coming home this winter. And enjoying the company of Mudbloods and other blood traitors? Tsk, a shame. Such a great shame. Don’t bother sending any letters, they will immediately be discarded of.”
The letter explodes and the only evidence that it even happened it the looks of pity you getting from the three other houses. The Slytherin table is bursting with laughter.
“Ignore them Y/N. Not worth your time. The Slytherin gits and your father. If you could even call a man like that a dad.” Ron shakes his head.
You catch your brother’s eyes, he has a soft, sad look but quickly switches when he catches you looking.
“Did you bloody hear that? I could never be such an embarrassment to the wizarding name.” Your brother boasts.
Your friends try to divert your attention but all you can think of is your dad.
No. Don’t be sad Y/N, you say to yourself. You’re meant to be a Gryffindor, and you’ll prove daddy wrong. Right? You’re a Malfoy after all.
Go ahead and cry, little girl Nobody does it like you do I know how much it matters to you I know that you got daddy issues

Chapter six
Suna was completely in shock and he was overwhelmed. He just froze. What can a man do when his ex tells him he is a father, let alone the father of two toddlers.
He immediately thought about the trauma you must have faced, being pregnant and alone. He also thought about how much he’s missed already, he wasn’t there for their day of birth, their first steps, first words, he’s already missed so many birthdays.
All he ever wanted was to be a father, especially to be the father of the children he made with the woman he was in love with. Was it truly a blessing or a curse?
Surely you don’t want to get back together and live like a perfect family behind a white picket fence. He’d have to learn how to push his feelings aside for these kids and share custody of them somehow. Before he could even speak you were walking away and he quickly turned.
Why aren’t his legs moving? What’s pulling him back? Is he afraid of this responsibility and commitment? Of course he is. He doesn’t want to be a shitty dad, will he be able to raise them correctly? How if he’s always busy training and practicing. All his free time is dedicated to napping.
His heart truly broke the second time ever when he saw those grayish eyes looking back at him with such hurt and betrayal. They screamed that they needed him. He didn’t know how but he felt it. He decided that he was going to take a step and work things out with you. Maybe not romantically but he really wants to be in his kids life.
“After all this time and trouble I went through. You’re gonna let her walk away again?” Atsumu’s annoying voice filled the silent hallway. “Fucking bastard.” Suna seethed and turned with a glare. Osamu knew his brother fucked up and decided to be cautious in case Suna decided to land a few punches on his brother like the last time Atsumu has pissed off Suna.
But as Atsumu braced himself for a comeback or for a fist to meet his face he was met with Suna’s back as he ran to catch up with you. When Suna turned the corner he saw the staff parking lot and he began to run even faster.
If you leave it’ll be too late.
When he made it in the parking lot he stopped and used his height to his advantage and he looked around. He couldn’t see you anywhere. “Y/N!” He called outloud and his voice echoed. “Y/N!” He repeated. He was about to continue walking through when a car backed up and quickly breaked so that they wouldn’t run over the man. You looked through your mirror and saw Suna standing there and looking around like an idiot.
Your heart clenched yet you felt butterflies at the same time. He came, not for you but for the kids. You really hoped and prayed that he would come, and he did. You parked your car and you got out. He sighed in relief and neared you. “I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I want to be in their lives I really do.” He exclaimed.
“It’s fine, Rin. I’m glad you want that.” You smiled softly.
For a moment he got lost in your eyes, and yours in his. It probably lasted less than a minute yet it felt like a eternity. Neither of you could turn away or say something else. It was comfortable and warm.
All of a sudden your phone rang and your finally blinked and turned away to answer your phone. “Did suna find you?” Jamie immediately asked. “Uh we were talking just now....” you said awkwardly and he stood awkwardly as well. “Ok good if not I was going to give him your number.” She sighed in relief and you rolled your eyes. “Alright I got to go, the kids have school in the morning.” You said and you both hung up.
“So I would love to stay and chat..ya know about the kids but they’re asleep already and they have school.” You mumbled. “No it’s fine I completely get it. School is important...are you available tomorrow? It’s off season for me so I don’t have any rough practices, only gym. I want to talk with you before meeting the kids.” He said and you nodded. “I’ll text you when to come over when I get home.” You told him and he nodded. You both exchanged numbers but Suna didn’t really seem that satisfied.
“Be safe. Text me when you guys get home safe.” He said and his eyes widened. “Okay, I will.” You smiled softly and he saw as you entered your car. You slowly pulled out and you drove away.
“Tsumu has her social media in case you’re curious.” Osamu spoke up causing Suna to jump. “What the hell dude, don’t just scare me like that.” He placed his hand over his chest and Osamu laughed.
“Come on, let’s go.” Osamu said and Suna nodded and walked away.
Tumblr media
“Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck.” You muttered and slapped yourself as you drove. Your kids were already asleep so they couldn’t hear you having a mental breakdown on your way home. “Mommy you said a bad word.” Akira pointed out and you glanced at the mirror. “Sorry about that. Don’t repeat it okay?” You asked and she nodded. “I know I know.” She mumbled and look at her signed volleyball with a bored expression. “Is daddy going to be in our lives, now?” She asked and you sighed softly.
“Well we talked and it sounds like he wants to be there for you and nii-chan..he’s going to come over tomorrow while you’re at school so we can talk like adults. Then when you come home he’ll be there to hang out with you guys and you guys can get to know eachother.” You said hopefully.“I don’t like him. Why couldn’t Sakusa or Atsumu be our dad. Even that guy you were with earlier with the suit is fine. But dad is a jerk. He made you cry.” Rini huffed and your eyes widened, were they awake the whole time?
“Hey, I know you don’t know him but your shouldn’t disrespect your father like that. If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t have had you guys. You two are the best things that has ever happened to me. You’re a Suna, once you get to know your dad I know you’ll be proud that I put your last name as Suna not Kageyama.” You told him and he scowled.
“Can you tell us more about dad?” Akira asked and you nodded. “What do you wanna know?” You asked. “Why did you fall in love with him.” Rini immediately asked, “Well he was sweet and funny, he loved anime and we were in the same class. He also taught me how to love volleyball again after my grandpa died.” You said smoothly. “What position did he play? Did he go pro?” They asked. “He was a middle blocker and he was really good. He still is a middle blocker and yes he is pro.” You said and Rini gasped. He’s more of a middle blocker type of fan. And Akira prefers setters. Even when you or Tobio teach them volleyball. They choose those positions.
The whole drive they asked about him and you answered the best you could, you can’t tell them everything but they were satisfied and they had a better understanding. They did get upset with you for not telling Rin that he was a father since the beginning but they understood that he broke your heart and you didn’t really want to see him.
When you got home you texted Rin that you arrived. You quickly bathed your kids. Dressed them in their pajamas and read them a script from the new anime you’re going to be on. (They liked listening to the scripts rather than bedtime stories)
After reading three pages they were already knocked out and you gave them a kiss. You fixed Akira’s fox plush in her arms and made you way to Rini’s bed. He was hugging a green piggy with a crown from the angry birds game and the moon made his face glow. You stood there in shock and you imagined second year Rin sleeping like that with the pig plush with the crown that reminded him of you.
You quickly rubbed your eyes to see second year rin turn back into five year old Rini. “I need some wine.” You muttered and kissed his cheek and fixed his blanket. You took out the phone from your pocket as you made your way to the bathroom to take off your makeup and start your nightly routine.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You chuckled but quickly slapped your hand over your mouth. Why was it so easy to text Rin again after all this time. Isn’t it supposed to be awkward? Why are you so comfortable?
You quickly typed an awkward goodbye and he scratched his head confused but replied goodbye as well. He really wanted to continue talking to you more.
After you changed into your pajamas and finished your nighttime routine you made your way to the kitchen and you grabbed the half full wine bottle.
You held it to your chest as you made your way to your office/studio and began reading the script and answering some emails involving the character you’ll be portraying for the new anime. You celebrated a few weeks back when you got the offer and sighed thinking about this certain character.
You’ve read the manga already but it wouldn’t hurt to re read it to get a better feel of the characater right? You took a sip from the wine bottle as you found the first book of the manga. In your endless shelves of books.
“Alright Emma let’s go on an adventure.” You sighed and began to read The Promised Neverland.

Also don’t forget that I love you and you’re worth it <3 Idk who needed to hear this today :)

never understood you before (but i do now) part vi
guess who’s back!! and with the final chapter!! sorry for the wait, and hope you enjoy!
you can also read this on ao3
THANKSGIVING BREAK PASSES in a flurry of turkey, potatoes, and disapproving glances (courtesy of Petunia). When it finally comes to an end, standing next to her parents and waving halfheartedly at Vernon’s car as it backs out of the driveway, all Lily feels is relief.
The moment is short lived. “Lily, dishes,” Laurel says, more of a statement than a question. Lily sighs and walks back into the kitchen. She’s about ten minutes into the seemingly endless pile of plates and tupperware before her mother joins her.
“What did you think of Vernon?” Laurel asks, leaning against the kitchen doorframe. Lily pauses, faucet still running. She calculates. Honesty is not the solution here, but neither is an outright lie.
She settles on saying “I think they’re a good match” while sponging the pan she’s washing a little too aggressively.
Laurel hums. “Petunia’s always been more — conscientious of the future. It’s one of my favorite things about her. She plans and she plans and she plans.”
She’s planning with Vernon, Lily translates. Her future is safe with Vernon.
“I think there are some things you can’t plan,” Laurel continues, smiling slightly. “Your father and I… never in my wildest dreams would I have predicted marrying him. I just — I just worry for Petunia, that she won’t be able to experience that.”
Silence, except for the faucet.
Lily clears her throat. She wishes she could respond I worry for Petunia, too, but the fact is that she and Petunia have never been close, not since they were children, not since — well, not since Severus. In the dim recesses of her mind, Lily can scrounge up some happy memories of her sister — shared Halloween costumes, Petunia’s protective stance on the playground — but they’re both rare and fleeting. Petunia is Petunia, and Lily is Lily, and the former will forever disapprove of the latter in the way that only sisters can. She can’t vocalize this truth, though — even if her mother already knows. Instead: “I think Petunia doesn’t want anything to be unpredictable. I think she’d hate falling in love with someone unexpected.”
Laurel nods, standing up a little straighter. “What about you?”
“What about me?”
“You’ve been branching out this year. I know you don’t tell me everything, but the Parents’ Association moms are very chatty. I never would have imagined you with Roger Davies, that’s all. I was surprised.”
Lily knows that she’s started to blush, but she can’t stop. She and her mother never talk about these things. “I really don’t think I’m in love with Roger, if that’s what you’re getting at, Mom,” she says, thinking of the last time she really spoke with him. The last yearbook meeting, maybe? Anything they’d had had fizzled out after that first date, after she’d somewhat clumsily executed a slow fade. “I haven’t even spoken to him recently.”
“Well, I guess I’m behind the times. Want to catch me up? Anything going on lately?”
“No,” she says, more forcefully. “Nothing.” Inexplicably, Lily pictures James, sitting on the kitchen counter just days ago. She pushes the thought down — she must have had too much wine at dinner, to be randomly thinking about him like this.
“Just checking,” Laurel says, a glint in her eye that Lily can’t interpret and feels vaguely threatened by. “I’m going to bed. See you tomorrow morning.”
“Love you,” Lily calls automatically, already back to the soapy water, her mother’s words echoing in her head. You’ve been branching out lately. Had she, really? Yes, she’d spoken to Roger. Become friends with James. She supposed she had more people to say hello to in the halls now, but that was really just because of her position as head of the yearbook. The fact was, she still felt like the same old Lily, truly open to only a few people, closed off to the rest of the world behind a veil of awkwardness and, at times, imposter syndrome. Her thoughts pull towards James again: how comfortable she feels in his presence, how easy it is to do away with the layers of caution that seem to smother her other social interactions. She shakes her head, turns the water off, examines the now clean kitchen. No more thinking of James Potter, she tells herself firmly. The thought echoes through her head as she gets ready for bed, self defeating by nature.
***   Marlene comes back from Thanksgiving break with a new friendship. She and Remus, she explains, had been volunteering at the same soup kitchen over break. Long hours ladling soup and tearing off bread had created (by Marlene’s telling) an unbreakable bond. “All of this is to say,” she says now as she swerves past a mailbox, Lily hanging on for dear life in the passenger seat of her friend’s car, “that Remus invited me over to watch a movie at James’s on Friday. It’s so funny how they — all four of them, you know — just invite people over to each other’s houses. Squad goals? Anyway, he said the invite was for me, you, whoever else. Dorcas has those damned violin recitals, but hopefully we’ll be able to spring her free — watch it! —” (a pigeon had dared hop into the road, and flew away hastily) “— and Alice and James and Sirius and Peter too.”
“Oh,” Lily says.
Marlene shoots her a look. “I thought it was a wonderful idea, seeing as you've started to become completely platonic, innocent friends with James Potter —”
“— every day, I regret telling you about Halloween more and more —”
“— and there’s nothing like a movie on a Friday night to solidify a friendship, is there, Lily?” Marlene smirks, and Lily can do nothing but silently fume as they pull into the high school parking lot. “Come on. You know it’ll be a good time.”
“I do, and I hate you for it,” Lily grumbles, getting out of the car. “And, for the last time, there’s nothing going on with James. Stop smirking.”
“Speak of the devil,” her friend says in lieu of a response, motioning to where James is approaching them from across the parking lot. For a second, all Lily can do is stare. He looks tanner, she thinks, briefly, before dismissing the thought; he didn’t even travel over the break. She must be seeing things.
He stops in front of them, holding onto his backpack straps and squinting against the sun. “Just the girls I was hoping to run into.”
“Oh?” Lily asks, tossing her hair over her shoulder and glancing up at him before she loses the nerve. Just James. Just a slightly tanner James. Nothing you haven’t seen before.
“For the movie on Friday: Peter and I want to watch Jaws and Sirius and Remus want to watch Love, Actually. Thoughts?”
Lily finds herself sputtering, “But — I barely just agreed to go, how did you —”
Marlene’s dangerously close to smirking again. “I may or may not have told James you’d be a sure thing,” she says, not noticing (or not caring) about James’s hair, or his tan, or the way his biceps flexed slightly when he ran a hand through his hair. How could someone not care about those things? “Have a nice break, Potter?”
“Perfectly fine. Did you like the flowers, Lily?”
Marlene shoots her an incredulous look, and Lily doesn’t know who she wants to murder first. “My mom really appreciated them. Tell your mom she said thanks.”
He pouts. It makes his mouth look — good. Shut up. She knows what it’s like to kiss him. Shut up. To feel his lips on her skin, on her neck, against her pulse point. Shut up.
“— game on Friday,” James is saying, and Lily’s not listening, but it doesn’t matter, because now he’s talking to Marlene. Lily trails behind them, watching as her fellow students move aside to let him pass through the parking lot, through the school entrance, through locker-lined hallways.
“— coming, Evans?” he asks, snapping her out of her stupor. They’re standing outside what she belatedly recognizes to be the math classroom, Marlene long gone.
She blinks once, twice. He raps her temple gently, that teasing glint in his eye again. “Lily?”
She’s so stunned by the fact that he’s touching her — granted, his knuckles are touching the side of her head, not a particularly romantic gesture — that for a second, she can only stand there, scrambling for some excuse, something to fill the suddenly heavy air between them.
Before she can come up with a suitable response, Gretchen Prewett shoulders between them to step into the classroom, breaking their contact and bumping into Lily a harder than strictly necessary. And that’s when Lily remembers — James and Gretchen. Gretchen and James. Gretchen with her curly blonde hair, her brown eyes, and her kindness, her infallible goodness, ever since kindergarten when she offered Lily a turn on the swings — Gretchen ensconced in James’s embrace after the soccer game, Gretchen whispering in his ear at the Halloween party, Gretchen with her arms around his waist at that one house party at the start of the year….
“Lily?” James repeats, this time with more concern. “You okay?”
She blinks again, suddenly unable to make eye contact. “Um, yeah.”
“Thought I lost you for a second there,” he says. “Shall we?”
He steps through the classroom door, and all Lily can do is follow.
***
That night, Lily sits on her bed, calculus notes spread around her, and texts the group chat.
i don’t think i can do this movie night thing on Friday
She exhales, the lie settling in her brain. She adds: something came up
Marlene responds almost immediately.
Marlene: was that something the realization that ur so desperately attracted to james samuel potter, you can’t be in the same room without wanting a repeat performance of halloween night?
Dorcas: i don’t think james’s middle name is samuel
Marlene: semantics
Dorcas: you don’t have to go lily
Marlene: oh yes you do
Lily: his middle name is Fleamont after his dad
Marlene: …
Marlene: why would you ever know that if you didn’t want to submit to the sexual tension that seems to follow you both EVERYWHERE
Lily: i’m a normal person who pays attention to things, that’s how i know his middle name!!!
Lily: and we do NOT have sexual tension
Marlene: pish
Marlene: i saw the way you were looking at him in the parking lot today
Marlene: you were feasting ur eyes
Alice: i wasn’t there but i believe marlene
Marlene: it’s okay tho because he was checking you out too
Lily’s blushing uncontrollably now. She’s always loved Marlene’s relentless determination, her stubbornness; however, it’s almost never been turned on her. What makes her friend’s insistence all the more infuriating is the fact that she’s right. Lily is plagued by flashbacks to Halloween night whenever she’s close to James. She can’t help, really, but admire how smooth his jawline is, or the shape of his collarbone, or the curve of his biceps, which sometimes show, depending on what shirt he’s wearing —
Even his once-annoying habit of constantly messing with his hair has grown on her, if only because she knows what it feels like to run her fingers through it, and wants desperately to repeat the experience.
Lily: okay even if i were a smidgen attracted to him it doesn’t matter because i completely forgot that he had a thing with gretchen
Alice: omg gretchen
Marlene: i thought they were just hooking up???
Lily: idk but she was really aggressive to me today right after i spoke to him
Marlene: huh i didn’t think she had it in her
Alice: go gretchen honestly
Alice: it’s about time she developed some backbone
Dorcas: yeah not with lily tho???
Lily: i don’t want to be a homewrecker
Marlene: you are literally so dramatic
Marlene: just ask James where he’s at with Gretchen
Marlene: on Friday.
Marlene: when you’ll be at the movie night, because you’re coming with us, because i’m picking you up at seven
Marlene: :)

At 7:05 on Friday night, Marlene pulls into Lily’s driveway.
“Surprisingly punctual,” Lily comments as she slides into the passenger’s seat, the familiar hum of the engine calming her nerves slightly. There’s a bitter chill to the air, to be expected in early December, and she wraps her coat around herself more tightly.
Marlene shrugs. “I do what I can.”
Then she floors it. All too soon, Lily finds herself standing in front of James’s door, hand hovering over the doorbell. “Is this really —”
Marlene rolls her eyes and jams her finger against the bell. “Yes. It’s really necessary. Talk to him and then ride off into the sunset together.”
Just then, the door swings open, and there he is: hair wet from a post-game shower, wearing a shirt that brings out the green in his eyes — eyes that flick up and down, taking her in, so quickly she almost could’ve missed it.
“Lily, you look great,” he says, then clears his throat. “Um, we’re downstairs. Movie’s about to start.” For the first time, he seems to notice the girl standing beside her. “Hi, Marlene.”
Marlene whistles lowly as they head downstairs, and Lily prods her with her elbow, cognizant of the fact that her cheeks are turning more and more red. She tries to take her mind off of James by focusing on her surroundings; she hasn’t been in his house since elementary school, when it was common procedure to invite the whole class to every birthday party. It’s nice — that’s no surprise, considering his family’s considerable wealth — and looks fairly lived in. As she and Marlene step into the basement, fully finished with a giant television and an assortment of comfy chairs and couches, Lily begins to regain her composure.
Sirius and Remus are cuddled up on one end of the couch, with Alice and Dorcas sitting on the floor in front of them, flipping back and forth between Jaws and Love, Actually. Marlene immediately walks over to Remus, and Lily trails behind, dismayed to hear that the two have already begun talking about a class that she doesn’t share. She turns towards Alice and Dorcas, but is stopped by the prickle at the edge of her vision — some subconscious mechanism alerting her to the fact that she’s being watched. Sure enough, Sirius Black is staring at her, eyebrows raised. The almost challenging expression is new to Lily; the Sirius she’s always known has been laid back, easygoing.
That is, before she accused him of trying to take advantage of her best friend on Halloween night. She cringes internally at the memory; she won’t apologize for worrying about her friend, but perhaps she had jumped to conclusions a bit too quickly. She clears her throat and veers towards him, steeling herself.
“Lily.” Sirius inclines his head ever so slightly, watching as she perches awkwardly on the couch’s arm.
“Sirius. I, um, probably should apologize for Halloween night.”
“What part?” he says, and something’s wrong, here, she thinks. “The part when you accused me of taking advantage of Marlene, or the part when you stuck your tongue down my best friend’s throat, then abandoned him?”
She’s so floored she almost falls off the couch. He’s speaking quietly, tone monotone, and if she hadn’t known better, she would’ve thought he was bored by the whole thing. But his gaze hasn’t moved from her face, and she realizes for the first time that Sirius Black, while angry, is worthy of fear.
“I — well — I’m sorry for assuming your intentions with Marlene. I didn’t know you —” she looks towards Remus, still chatting away obliviously with her friend “— I didn’t know you were in a relationship, and I overreacted. As for the James stuff, I — I really don’t know what to say. I thought he just wanted to be friends.”
“Yes, when Remus kissed me for the first time, my first thought was, ‘Oh, I bet he just wants to be friends,’” Sirius mutters acridly, but his expression has softened slightly, and Lily allows herself to relax, just a little bit. “Jesus Christ. This is worse than I thought.” “What is worse?” Lily asks, feeling strangely defensive. “James and I —”
“James has had a crush on you since seventh grade, Lily,” Sirius all but hisses. “It’s so incredibly obvious, I never even considered you didn’t know. I thought you were —”
“Some manipulative bitch stringing him along?” Lily finishes, arching an eyebrow at him, hoping she can disguise the shock reverberating through her. Since seventh grade.
“You’re kind of scary, Lily Evans,” Sirius says drily. “And sharp. Emotionally aware or some shit. It’s intimidating. The poor fool was just happy to have time with you, even if you thought that him fucking kissing you was an expression of platonic friendship — ”
“That’s not — I’m not — I — he was with Gretchen!”
Sirius scoffs. “I can’t explain all his choices. But they were never together, never officially. Gretchen was hooking up with Michael Goldstein at the same time. She can get kind of territorial. I told him not to get mixed up in it, but he was so hung up on — well.” He pauses. “I’ve said too much.” His tone is not apologetic or regretful in the slightest; in fact, Lily can see the beginnings of a smirk on his face. She doesn’t focus on it for too long, though; there’s too much to process. For the first time, the possibility of James — of really being with him, of holding his hand, of FaceTiming with him late into the night, of walking down the hallways together — cements in her head. Her head swims, imagining the potential of it all. “Where’s James?”
“Getting drinks upstairs,” Sirius says, eying her with suspicion. “Why?” “I think he and I need to have a talk.”
***
Lily finds James in the kitchen on the main floor, trying and failing to carry seven beer cans at the same time. When he sees her, they come crashing to the floor, and before she knows what she’s doing, she’s helping him pick them up, avoiding eye contact.
“What are you doing up here? Is something wrong?” James asks once the cans have been dealt with.
She leans against the kitchen island, wiping her palms on the sides of her jeans. His gaze follows the motion before he blinks and makes eye contact again, clearing his throat. Waiting for her to speak.
So she does: “Nothing’s wrong. I just — I wanted to ask you about someone.”
He cocks an eyebrow. “Really? Who? Sorry. Whom.”
Lily can’t help but roll her eyes, his impeccable grammar relaxing her nerves. “Whom? Really, James?”
He scoffs and shakes his head, but there’s no real heat to it. “Only the best for my yearbook editor.” He’s leaning against the wall opposite her, hands in his pockets. When he looks back at her, the air feels like honey: thick and slow-moving, sweet. She’s never had someone look at her like that before. Her heart speeds up. Get back on track, Lily.
“Right. Uh, anyway. I was thinking about Halloween —”
There it is, again. That look. Followed by a brief glance at her mouth — he’s quick, but she’s attuned to his every movement, now — before his eyes flick back up to her face. “Yeah?”
“Yeah. And I realized that I completely forgot about Gretchen.”
James breaks eye contact. “What about her?”
One deep breath, then two. “Well. Were you seeing her? Was I — helping you cheat, or —”
“God, no,” he says. “Lily, I would never — we weren’t exclusive, or together, and she was mostly using me to make Michael Goldstein jealous, anyway.”
“Oh.”
He clears his throat again, runs a hand through his hair. It’s dry, now, and looks impossibly soft. Lily’s fingers clench automatically.
“Well,” she says, heart pounding. She senses she’s very close to something, something big; it’s like she’s standing on the edge of a cliff, crystal-clear water below, and she’s terrified of how deep she might fall. No matter that jumping off that cliff is what she’s been wanting to do for months now. No matter that jumping off that cliff might simply mean closing the two feet of separation between her and the boy she so desperately wants. “See you downstairs, then.”
***
Lily bolts.
There’s no other word for it; she walks out of the kitchen as fast as she can, pretending not to hear James calling her name. She knows she’s a coward. She knows that if she’d crossed that final threshold, if she’d turned back around, if she’d stayed, her life might look very different. But she can’t do it.
The fact of the matter is, Lily Evans has been Lily Evans, undesirable, longer than she has been Lily Evans, as-crushed-on-by-James-Potter-since-the-fucking-seventh-grade. She needs to let the notion sink under her skin. She’s out of first moves; she’s out of soul-searing confidence. She asked about Gretchen. It was a baby step. Now she can go downstairs and watch the fucking movie, and bear the brunt of Marlene’s disappointment, and fall asleep fantasizing about James’s lips and hands and body instead of experiencing the real thing. It’s fine. It’s what she’s used to doing, and so far, she’s done perfectly well.
It’s not that she doesn’t like James; no, the opposite holds true. She very much likes James, to an extent that is unfamiliar and sticky and all too attainable. James Potter — the disco ball that’s sharp around the edges, except lately it seems as if they’ve both been childproofing the jagged parts, making them soft and round and welcoming. She doesn’t know how this works, how to navigate a minefield that’s been disarmed and paved over.
Besides, she thinks as she begins to walk down the stairs to the basement, how is she supposed to hold up to the idealized version of herself that must have been growing, festering, in James’s head for the past five years? Lily, who’s only kissed three people, and never done more; Lily, who doesn’t know how to be in a relationship, especially one with one of the school’s most visible students; Lily, who, despite all her newfound confidence, still can’t wrap her head around the idea that James would like her. Would want her. Would —
“Lily?”
Instinctively, her head snaps towards the voice’s source. It’s James, of course it is. He stands at the top of the stairs, the soft glow of the overhead light making him look practically angelic. She nods at him.
“Can I join you?”
“Yes.”
He walks until he’s standing on a step two feet away from her. The trek down to the basement involves two flights of stairs, with a landing in between; on the first staircase, therefore, she and James are hidden from the basement’s occupants, from outside influence, from the world.
“What is it?” she asks, going for unbothered and confident and failing miserably. She can’t meet his eyes.
“I was just wondering — now that we’ve, um, cleared up the Gretchen thing — well, the thing is,” he says, running a hand through his hair and smiling apologetically, “I’m, um, rambling. Sorry. Um, what I’m trying to say is that I’ve really enjoyed being your friend over the past few months. But — and it’s only fair you should know — I’ve really, really liked you for the past few years. God, that makes me sound creepy. It’s not that, I swear. I just — you’re so — so poised and kind and sharp. I always, well, I always thought you were too mature for me, too smart. You — you really don’t suffer fools, Lily, and I am one, but, well, in spite of that — in spite of everything — will you go out with me?”
She looks up at him, eyes wide, heart beating wildly. “You are a fool, James,” she whispers, words almost catching in her throat, because there it is. He’s just given the final confirmation, the truth: that he, James Potter, likes her. Wants her. Wants to be with her. She can’t stop — fuck, she keeps remembering Halloween. His hands on her skin. “I — you’re a complete fool, and you’re also ridiculously charming and intelligent and social in a way I can’t fathom, and I respect you. I really do.”
James’s face falls. “Right. Well, I’m glad you respect me, and I’ll just — I’ll just go now, I guess —”
“I don’t want you to go,” she bursts out. This conversation is getting out of her control (when had it ever been in her control?), the words slipping away from her. You can’t do first moves, grand proclamations, the voice in her head whispers snidely, but she ignores it. “I want you to stay. I respect you, and I like you, and I want to be with you. See?”
It’s his turn to look gobsmacked. “Oh. As friends, or —”
She pounces on him. There’s no other word for it, not really; she reaches the staircase step below his, and then she guides his mouth down to hers, hands around the back of his neck, back arching under his. If she stands on her tiptoes she can make the angle better, and… there. Something like a sigh falls from James’s mouth. His hands wind through her hair, glasses bumping slightly against her forehead. It’s not a perfect kiss. But it does accomplish the most important thing, for James Potter, jagged around the edges, and Lily Evans, sharp to the touch, have changed.
Both are now soft, malleable, in each others’ arms.

“What?!” Harry reaches to turn the light on, and squeezes your shoulder as a silent apology for the abrupt light. “How…?”
“He…had a heart attack, I guess. My mom tried to wake him up because she couldn’t hear him breathing, and…” She sobs louder. “I have to go to Connecticut, and-“
“Where’s Noah?”
“He had to go to Vermont this week for a client, it’s just Rachel and I here, and I don’t know what to do! I can’t bring her with me, can I? Should I? I have no idea how long I’m going to be gone for, or what my mom’s plans are. I mean, she may need to come live with me Harry! I’m just, I feel all alone right now, and…”
“I’m coming over.”
“No, I can’t ask you to do that.”
“You’re not, I’m telling you that’s what’s happening. When’s Noah supposed to be home?”
“Wednesday.”
“Alright, Rachel can miss school tomorrow, and she can home stay here until he gets back, that way you can just leave tomorrow.” He says, pulling the blankets back and finding his sweat to pull on. “I’ll be there soon, okay? Just try to take some deep breaths.”
“Thank you.”
Harry hangs up and sighs. He blinks a few tears away before looking at you.
“Paige’s father passed away.”
“Oh no.” You frown. “That’s terrible.”
“Noah’s in Vermont, and she’s home alone with Rachel. I’m so sorry, but I have to go make sure she’s alright. As annoying as her parents are, she was close with her dad, and-“
“I understand.” You swallow. “You’re all she has around her, you should go.”
“Thank you.” He knees onto the bed to hug you. “You’ll be fine here with Andy?”
“Yeah, of course.”
“Okay.” He runs a hand through his hair. “If I’m not back before he gets up tomorrow…wait for me to explain it to him, please?” You nod at him. “I have to bring Rachel back with me tomorrow. I’m gonna keep Andy home from school. I don’t know how he’ll take it, but I wanna make sure he doesn’t feel like he needs to be anywhere but with me, or if he wants to go to Connecticut with his Mum, I wanna give him that option. Fuck it, if I need to get him there I will, I-“
“Harry.” You stand up and take him in your arms, hugging him. “Go, she needs you.”
He presses his lips to yours before letting go of you. He grabs a couple of things before quietly heading out. You sigh heavily and get back into bed. You knew this was all part of loving Harry. All of this came with him, but it still stung a little to watch him leave. You groan and get over yourself. You couldn’t imagine going through what Paige was right now. You’d call Harry too if you were in the same situation.
//
Harry lightly taps on the front door of Paige’s home around one in the morning. She swings it open as she was waiting by the door for him.
“Harry.” Her voice cracks as she throws her arms around him.
He holds her close and lets her cry into him. He gets the door closed and walks them into the house so they can sit in the living room. He keeps his arms around her while she continues just to let it out. When he feels her breathing evening out, he speaks up.
“When did your mum call?”
“Um, it was my sister.” Paige says, wiping some tears away, looking up at Harry. “My mom called her first, and then she called me. They called an ambulance right away, and he was pronounced dead on the way there. I mean, I suppose it was peaceful since it was in his sleep, but...I thought he had more time, you know?” She sniffles.
“I know, I’m so sorry.” He rubs at her back and shoulder and she nuzzles into his chest.
“Thank god Allie lives within thirty minutes of them, I don’t know what I’d do. She said we’d talk more tomorrow, but she doesn’t think mom can live with her, she just doesn’t have the room like I do.”
“You only have the room because Allie didn’t wanna move out of the city to take this place. Now she’s using it as leverage.” Harry rolls his eyes.
“She couldn’t move out of the city, her and her husband need to live there for work…”
“I’m aware of that, Paige, I just think she set you up is all.”
“At any rate, she’s going to help my mom sell her condo, and-“
“Well, she should…she’s a fucking real estate agent. It’s the least she can do.” Harry scratches at Paige’s head like he knows she likes and it helps her calm down more.
“I’ll probably have to hit the road tomorrow to help with the arrangements. He’s had it in his will to be buried out there. God, I’m gonna have to take so much time off work, and all this before Christmas.” Her bottom lip quivers.
“Was it…a nice Thanksgiving at least?”
“It was! He was so much nicer than he usually is. Andy even made him laugh! I suppose it’ll be a nice last memory of him. I have no idea how I’m going to explain this to Andy.”
“He should go with you…to Connecticut. He’ll wanna say goodbye to his Gramp.”
“He’ll be so bored with me running around.”
“He can hang out with his cousins. I’m sure plenty of your family will be coming in for it.”
“Are you okay with him missing so much school?”
“It’s not like he’ll be missing much this time of year. I can talk to him about it tomorrow.” He grabs the blanket on the back of the couch to put over the two of them.
“Thank you for being here last minute. I felt terrible calling Noah the way I did. He could barely understand me, and I just didn’t know what else to do. Hopefully I didn’t wake poor Rachel.”
“This is a big deal, I wouldn’t leave you by yourself.”
“Wait…” She says after a few moments of silence. “If you’re here, where’s Andy?”
“At home.”
“By himself?!”
“No! Y/N’s with him…”
“You called her to have him stay with him?”
“No, she was already there, um, this was her first time staying over on a school night.”
“Harry.” Paige sighs. “You can’t leave your current girlfriend in bed to go be with your ex-girlfriend.”
“Well, I did, and I’ll deal with it later. She said she understood.”
“Of course she did! What was she gonna say, don’t go? She knows she couldn’t say that. Fuck, now she’s gonna hate me.”
“No she won’t. Listen, just try to relax, okay? You’re gonna have a long drive, I’ll be worried enough about you getting there in one piece. I should just go with you.” He pinches the bridge of his nose as he thinks it over.
“Nope, no way. My family would eat you alive if you did that. Noah will probably come once the actual funeral date is scheduled. I can drive on my own, I’ll be fine, I’m just still in shock.”
“It’s a lot to process.”
The two end up falling asleep together on the couch. Little did Paige know is that Noah cut his visit with his client short to get home to her, so needless to say he was little annoyed when he walked through the door at the crack of dawn.
“Um…hello?”
Harry and Paige’s eyes snap open and they stand immediately to get away from each other.
“Noah!” Paige’s eyes well up immediately as she walks into his arms. “You’re back so soon?”
“I got on the road as soon as I could. How are you holding up? I see you called Harry…”
“I…well…I didn’t know what else to do, and-“
“Well, I guess I should get home now that he’s back, and I guess Rachel won’t need to come stay with me. Let me know what you wanna do about Andy, okay? I’m gonna tell him he doesn’t need to go to school today either way.”
“Alright.” She nods. “Um, I’ll probably need a couple of hours. I need to speak more with Allie about everything.” She nuzzles into Noah for a moment before letting go of him. “I’m gonna go take a shower, thank you again for coming.” She gives his shoulder a squeeze before going up the stairs.
Harry and Noah share an awkward moment of eye contact.
“I didn’t think you two were still so comfortable together to fall asleep like that.” He says, crossing his arms. “And why would my daughter need to go stay with you?”
“Okay, first of all, we were both exhausted, so pardon us for falling asleep innocently on the sofa. Second of all, we both thought you wouldn’t be home until Wednesday, so I offered to have Rachel come stay with me until you got back. Or would you have preferred her stay here by herself?” Harry looks Noah up and down. “Don’t start with me, mate. She needed someone, and I’m the closest thing she has to family around here.”
“And you just so easily sprang into action?”
“Her father died! What would you have done? Stayed home and not come to comfort her? Give me a fucking break. I’ll chalk this up to you being tired or something because I sure as hell know you’re not accusing me of something.”
“I just think you should worry about your own girlfriend. I don’t think she’d love knowing you slept with Paige.”
“Don’t say it like that, it wasn’t like that.”
“Then what was it like Harry?! You could have told her to go back up to bed, and you could have stayed down here or gone home once she got back to sleep, but no, there you were with your arms around her. You’re not gonna get over her.”
“You don’t what you’re talking about.” He shakes his head. “I’m in love with Y/N, not Paige. I…you know what? I don’t have to explain myself to you. She called me, I came here, now you’re here, go make your fiancé feel better instead of worrying about me.” Harry practically spits before leaving in a huff.
//
You had trouble sleeping in Harry’s bed without him, so you got up early to make a big breakfast because you just didn’t know what else to do. The smell of pancakes filled the house, and it woke Andy up. He was all out of sorts because pancakes were usually a weekend breakfast. He came out of his room and you pouted at how cute he was. He was wearing an oversized t-shirt, no doubt Harry’s, and a pair of joggers, with his blanket wrapped around him.
“What’s going on?” He knuckles at his eyes before sitting down in front of the plate you made for him.’
“Dad had to step out, but he’ll be back soon. You, uh, don’t need to go to school today.”
“Did it snow?”
“No…he’ll explain when he gets back. Just, um, eat your breakfast and then go wash up if you haven’t already, yeah?”
“Okay…thanks for making this.”
“You’re welcome.”
You get comfy on the couch and watch some morning TV while Andy goes to brush his teeth and wash his face. Sister, Sister was on, a perfect distraction. Andy comes over to sit with you, but it was still so early, he just felt groggy, and he looked so adorable with his floppy curls in his face. He grabs one of the throw pillows.
“Could I…?” He gestures to put it in your lap.
“Oh! Yeah, go ahead.”
“Thanks.” He mutters as he gets his head comfy in your lap, and his eyes flutter closed.
You mindlessly play with his hair to keep him comfortable. It was something Harry liked you figured he’d like it too. You felt terrible for him. You didn’t know how close or not close Andy was with his grandfather, but you guessed this would be his first time dealing with a major death in the family. Harry comes in about two episodes into Sister, Sister and you put your finger up to your lips to signal to be quiet. He wants to cry at the sight in front of him. His son feeling so comfortable to cuddle up with you was so sweet. He wished he could do the same, but he needed to wake up a bit more before having the tough conversation with Andy. He sees that you’ve made coffee, and he sees the leftover pancakes and he smiles. Yup, this was exactly where he wanted to be. He sips on some coffee and then comes over to the two of you.
“Andy?” He says softly, rubbing his son’s back. “I need you to wake up, buddy.”
“Y/N said I didn’t need to go to school.” He groans.
“You don’t, but I have to talk to you about something…privately.”
Andy sits up slowly and gives Harry a confused look.
“Where were you?”
“At Mum’s.”
“Why?”
“Can we go talk in your room?”
Andy looks over at you and you nod to go with Harry, so he listens and stands up. Harry puts his hand on Andy’s back and mouths a ‘thank you’ to you. Once they’re both in his room, sitting on his bed, Harry takes a deep breath.
“Mum called me late last night…Noah was in Vermont so she didn’t want to be alone.”
“Why? What happened?”
“Um, well, Gramp…passed away.”
“What?!” Andy’s eyes start to tear up.
“He passed peacefully in his sleep, but Mum didn’t find out until late last night.”
“So, he’s, like, gone?”
“Yeah, I’m afraid so.”
“But, he can’t be! I just saw him the other day!”
“I know, these things can happen so suddenly sometimes. I’m really sorry.” Harry pulls Andy into him, and that’s when the waterworks start. Harry holds his son close as he lets Andy process everything.
“Is Mummy okay?” Harry’s eyes widen. He couldn’t remember the last time Andy called Paige ‘Mummy’.
“She will be. She’s gonna go to Connecticut later today to see how she can help Gram and Auntie Allie. Would you like to go with her? The funeral will probably be over the weekend.”
“It’s okay to miss that much school?”
“Of course! It’ll be excused.”
“Yeah, I…I think I would like to go with her.”
“Okay, I’ll let her know. I’m sure she’d like your company for the ride.”
“What about Noah and Rachel.”
“I don’t know what his plan is…I’ll be honest, he’s not happy with me at the moment.”
“Why? You, like, practically came to Mum’s rescue last night.”
“Exactly.” Harry sighs. “He wasn’t supposed to come back until Wednesday, and he came back early this morning to Mum and I asleep on the couch together, so that was a whole thing.”
“You fell asleep with her?” Andy whispers, not that you were listening in. Harry nods at him. “Yikes.”
“Big yikes.” Harry chuckles softly. “Anyways, no school today, or the rest of the week since you wanna go with Mum. I’ll call the school to let them know what’s going on. I need to go cancel my classes for the day, and I need to see what Y/N wants to do. I feel bad she was here alone with you.”
“She made really good pancakes for breakfast, and then she let me hang out with her. Better than any baby sitter.”
“Good, I’m glad.” Harry reaches to stroke Andy’s cheek. “Why don’t you go take a shower and then get your things ready? I need to pull your suit from my closet and all that.”
“Okay, I’m just gonna text Brandon to let him know I won’t be at school for a few days, is that alright?”
“Yeah, let him know.”
Harry leaves Andy to do his thing. You were now in the kitchen cleaning up.
“Hey.” He says to you. “I’m really sorry for just leaving you like that last night.”
“It’s okay.”
“It’s not…I…should have brought you both with me or something, but I feel like I was panicking or something, and-“
“Harry, she needed you. Her father died, I get it.” You turn to look at him. “What’s the plan for today?”
“Andy’s gonna go to Connecticut with her. I need to cancel my classes for the day so I can stay home with him until she’s able to come pick him up.”
“Okay, I’ll…I’ll do the same.”
“I couldn’t ask you to do that.”
“I wanna be there for you, for the both of you. I can post some online assignments. I’m sure the students won’t mind.”
“I…feel like you should know in case it blows up in my face later…um, I slept on the couch with Paige last night.” Your eyebrows shoot up at that. “She sort of latched onto me when I got there, and I was trying to calm her down, and we fell asleep. It was nothing, like we weren’t, I wasn’t spooning her or anything like that, like it was…you know, platonic, and Noah got home and woke us up, and we immediately got away from each other, and she went right to him, and then he got mad at me, and now it’s a whole thing, but it didn’t mean anything, Y/N, I was just trying to-“
“Harry.” You pinch the bridge of your nose and sigh. “Please, just stop talking, you’re rambling.” You look at him. “You just so easily fell asleep with her?”
“I was exhausted, and so was she. It just happened, I’m sorry.”
“Did you kiss her?”
“What?! No!” He makes a disgusted face.
“Did you call her anymore nice names?”
“Like what?”
“You called her darling last night, and it made me feel…gross.”
“Oh, baby.” He puts his hands on your shoulders. “I’m so sorry, no, I didn’t call her anymore nice names.”
“Okay.”
“Why would think I kissed her?”
“I don’t know…maybe you kissed her cheek or top of her head or something.”
“I swear I didn’t do that. I just held her to soothe her a little, that’s all. It didn’t mean anything, I was purely there as a friend.”
“Okay.” You sigh. “I’ll email Lucas to let him know both of our classes are cancelled today so he can send one of those text alerts out.”
“You’re not mad?”
“How could I be? Your cuddles could cure cancer, they’re very powerful. I’d want you to hold me too.”
“I…thank you for being so cool about all this. I feel like I’d go bananas if it were reversed.”
“Well, it’s not, so you don’t even have to think about it. Plus, you told me right away about it, and I appreciate you being so honest.” You smile at him. “Please eat something, I left you extra.”
“Thanks, I am kinda hungry.”
A little while later, as you and Harry are both on your laptops in the living room, Andy comes out with all of his things. Harry had texted Paige to let her know Andy wanted to go with her.
“Andy, I’m really sorry for your loss.” You say as he sits down on the love seat.
“Oh, um, thanks.”
The doorbell rings and Harry sighs as he gets up. Paige looks much better, he notices, but she wasn’t wearing any makeup, and she was in sweats.
“Hi.” She says. “Is he ready?”
“Yeah.” Harry looks back. “Andy, come on.”
“Mum…” Andy slowly approaches mother with a quivering lip.
“Hi, baby.”
They throw their arms around each other. You sort of just sit there awkwardly until Paige steps in further and notices you sitting there.
“Y/N! Hi…I didn’t think you’d still…um, never mind. We’ve got a long drive, Andy, let’s get your things in the car.”
“I’ll help with that.” Harry says, and quickly grabs Andy’s things. You stand up.
“I’m so sorry about your father.” You say.
“Thank you.”
“Bye, Y/N.” Andy says, hugging you. “The pancakes were really good.”
“I’m glad liked them.”
“Everything’s in the trunk.” Harry says. “What are Noah and Rachel doing?”
“They’re gonna stay in town until Friday, and then they’ll come to Connecticut for the funeral Saturday.”
“Dad, are you gonna come to the funeral?”
“No.” Paige and Harry say at the same time.
“Um, Dad doesn’t need to go to this, Andy. Noah will be there, though, so that’s good.” She looks at you briefly, and then to Harry. “Could you go get buckled up?” She says to Andy.
“Okay.” He gives Harry a hug before going outside.
“He’s very upset with me…” She says in a whisper.
“Who, Noah?”
“Yes.”
“Your dad just died…”
“I know.” She deadpans. “He wasn’t happy about what he walked into, and even though he’s trying to be sympathetic, he thinks you and I are too codependent sometimes. The co should only apply to the parenting or something, I don’t know.” She blinks some tears away. “He’s never been a jealous man, Harry, I don’t know what his problem is.”
“He probably thinks that if I snapped my fingers you wouldn’t marry him or something. He’ll get over it. A few days apart, and he’ll forget all about me.”
“I just don’t want this to taint how good everything is with all of us. I shouldn’t have let you come over.”
“Don’t say that…don’t let him make you feel worse.”
“Did you tell Y/N what happened?”
“Yeah.”
“And she was okay with it?”
“She…understood. Not something we should make a habit of though.” He smirks and she rolls her eyes.
“Obviously. If his stupid fucking client hadn’t needed an in person consult then we wouldn’t even be in this mess.”
“Gee, thanks, nice to know I’m always second best.”
“I’m going before I smack you. Goodbye.”
“Safe travels, give my condolences to the family.”
“I will, thanks.” She looks over at you again. “Bye, Y/N!”
“Bye, sorry again!”
Harry closes the door and lets a long sigh out before looking at you.
“I need a fucking shower.” You nod at him. “Join me?” You nod again and follow him into his bathroom.
“Noah’s really pissed, huh? I slightly overheard.”
“Hard not to, I suppose.” He strips himself of his clothes and turns the water on as you get rid of your own clothes. “He…and remember this was years ago before they were even together, but he knows about the few times she and I hooked up after we broke up, so I think he thinks that could all easily happen again, but he’s fucking delusional if he thinks I would ever do something like that. I would never let her cheat on him, nor do I have any desire to fuck her, please know that.” He steps into the water and guides you in with him.
“Then why does he think she wants to fuck you? That must clearly be the issue.”
“I swear she doesn’t, but he think I have this, like, spell over her or something, I don’t know.”
“You are dangerously charming.” You smirk.
“Stop it.” He chuckles. “This isn’t new. This tension builds every so often, and then we have these little flare ups. It’s why we don’t hang out a lot, not that we would anyways, but we don’t do a ton of things together unless it involves Andy, rightfully so.”
“Then it’s like you said, he’ll get over it.”
“Exactly. He loves her, he just needs to get over himself. If I had to take any bets I’d say he won’t wait until Friday to go to Connecticut, I’ll bet he’ll get there tomorrow or Thursday.”
“Well, at least Andy’s with her now.”
“Yeah, I’m proud of him for going.” He wraps his arms around your waist. “Now, can we please talk about anything else?”
You smile and wrap your arms around his neck as the warm water cascades over the two of you.
“Why talk at all?”
He smiles and leans in to kiss you. Harry needed some comforting of his own, and if his cuddles could cure cancer, then your kisses could cure just about everything else.
//
“So…you and Harry both cancelled classes yesterday…” Janette says to you over coffee Wednesday morning at the little shop downtown. She was the physical version of that knowing eyes emoji.
“It’s not what you think…Paige’s father died.”
“Oh my!”
“I know, and it was this whole thing, and I didn’t wanna leave him, so I cancelled also. It’s fine, all my students did their online assignments.” You shrug and take a sip of your warm drink.
“Is Harry alright?”
“Yeah, I think he felt bad more so for Paige. He seems pretty indifferent about Nathan being gone, though. He wasn’t exactly nice to Harry.”
“I definitely get that. In laws can put a lot of strain on a relationship.”
“He spoke to Andy last night when they got there, and he’s doing fine, so that’s all that matters.” You say as you both brave the cold back up to campus. “Men are…jealous creatures.”
“Very territorial. Like a dog with a fire hydrant.”
“It’s a little degrading, isn’t it? To be compared to a fire hydrant?”
“What happened, exactly?”
“He fell asleep with Paige, like I said, it was a whole thing. Anyways, I guess Noah was really upset about it, but I…didn’t care all that much. I feel secure in what we have, but Harry told me if the situation was reversed he would have flipped most likely.”
“If you had fallen asleep with an ex, you mean?”
“Correct.”
“Interesting.”
“I thought I would have been more upset, especially since I know how Harry sleeps. He’s like a koala bear.” You chuckle. “But he assured me nothing like that happened, and I believed him.”
“It’s a good sign he told you straight away.”
“I guess I just don’t fully understand the jealousy. I mean, I don’t exactly love it when she just drops by, but that’s only because I’m never sure what my place is, you know?”
“Harry is a special breed of man, Y/N. He’s extremely attractive, yes, but he’s also a dork. Fucking a ton of girls probably wasn’t in the cards for him, so when he did find a girl to fuck, he latched onto her. A simp, as the kids would say.” She smirks.
“He told me he used to hook up a bit before we met…”
“And he did, but he had these regular girls. He was terrible at a one night stand, he just couldn’t bring himself to fuck a girl and then leave, you know? So he’d be with the same person for about a month and then move on.”
“He is very simp-like, now that I think about it. Like…my water bottle could be on the coffee table, and I could easily get it myself, but I’ll ask him to do it, and he doesn’t even question me, he just happily grabs it and hands it to me.”
“There you go then. He’d do anything to keep you. Noah’s probably the same with Paige. Noah probably knows that he and Harry share this quality, so that’s when things get embarrassingly territorial.” You both enter the building. You had gotten an extra coffee for Harry so you go right to his office.
“Got you a coffee, Har.”
“Oh!” He smiles and stands up to take it from you. “Thank you.” He kisses your cheek. “How is it out there? Nippy today.”
“Very.” Janette says. “Fucking windy. Winter break can’t come soon enough.” She sighs. “I gotta go prep for my next class, I’ll see you both later.”
You take your jacket off and sit on one of his chairs.
“How does soup sound for dinner tonight?” He asks as he comes to sit next you.
“Oh, are we having dinner tonight?” You raise an eyebrow at him. “I have a lot of work I need to do tonight, babe.”
“I just thought…um…”
“I know Andy’s gone, but I can’t stay over every night of the week, Harry. I didn’t get anything done over Thanksgiving, I need to buckle back down.”
“But think of all the work you’ll get done when I’m away in London.”
“Don’t do that to me, that’s not fair.”
“I’m not doing anything.”
“You’re making me feel guilty for being busy.” You sigh. “I can’t come over tonight, maybe tomorrow, or even Friday?”
“I could come to your place when you’re done working if that’s easier.”
“Harry, I love spending the night with you, and I’ll probably miss you when I go to sleep tonight, but I may not go to bed until after midnight depending how in the middle of things I am, I’m sorry.”
“Alright.” He sighs and takes a sip of his coffee.
“It won’t be like this forever. Just another year or so, and then it’ll be done.”
“And…you’ll stay here? You won’t get your degree and then say see you later?”
“Well, they hired me already, I may not be tenure track, but I’m here for the long haul. I’m here with you for the long haul.”
“Then I think it’s time I gave you something.” He gets up and goes into his bag, and then comes back to you. “Here.” He drops a key into your hand.
“What is this?”
“Spare key to my house.” He runs a hand through his hair. “It’s silly for you to always ring the bell and wait, and it’s getting colder so…just come in, you know.”
“Harry, this is so sweet, thank you.” You stand up and hug him. “I’ll…I’ll get a spare for my place made for you too.”
“Only if you really want me to have it.”
“I do! I really do. It makes sense on both ends.” You smile. “I love you so much.” You kiss him, but are interrupted by a tap on the door.
“Um…I’m so sorry, I have a meeting with Dr. Styles…”
“That you do, Brooke! Come on in.” Harry says brightly. “Professor Y/L/N.” He nods to you.
“Dr. Styles.” You nod back and giggle to yourself as you close the door behind you.
“Sorry about that, Brooke, we’re here to discuss spring courses, yeah?” Harry asks as he pulls her information up on his computer.
“Yeah! And no worries, it’s sweet that you’re dating, actually. Known you almost four years now, Dr. Styles, I was wondering when you were gonna settle down.”
“You and me both.” He mumbles as he looks over her current courses. “Okay, most important is your senior seminar…”
//
Thursday night you were pacing around in your apartment in just a large t-shirt, one of Harry’s. You had a highlighter in one hand and a journal article in the other. Harry was being amazing about giving you a little space, you felt sort of bad that he was alone in his house, but he was a big boy, and you were on the verge of a breakthrough. You were getting incredible work down, and you couldn’t afford to not.
The thing you learned about Harry, though, was that not only was he territorial, he was clingy. He was getting his own work done for sure, but he wasn’t under as much pressure as you were. Your PhD wasn’t on the line, he just had different deadlines for his manuscript. You hoped you weren’t putting him through too much by not being as readily available.
//
“Little too hard there, H.” Andre says as he shakes his hand out.
“Sorry, let’s take a break.”
Harry and Andre would sometimes go to the same boxing gym, and Harry had asked him to go with him since you were busy tonight. They each take their gear off and grab their water bottles.
“Everything alright?” Andre asks him.
“Oh, yeah! Everything’s fine, just miss Andy.”
“How’s he been doing?”
“Right now he’s fine because he’s getting to see a lot of his family that he doesn’t normally get to. Saturday will be rough probably, but he’ll be okay I think.”
“Can I ask…why aren’t you with Y/N right now? If I were a single parent I’d be jumping at the chance to be alone with my girlfriend.”
“I thought she would too, but you know how it is when you’re doing thesis work. She didn’t want to change up her routine and not get some work done. I’m hoping when I go to London she’ll get a fuck ton done so she can take a little break. I wanna invite her to the cabin for Andy’s February break.”
“So…she’s invited to that, but not to London?”
“Way too soon for that.” Harry says. “It’s only been five months. I did just give her a key to my place, though, and she gave me one to hers, so that’s nice.”
“I think you’re just scared to have her meet your mumma.” Andre smirks.
“Leave my mum outta this.” He says warningly. “That’s not it at all. Three weeks is a long time to spend alone with someone in a foreign country.”
“Fair point. She’d have no escape when she realizes you’re a twat.”
“Oi!”
“Come on, I’ve caught a second wind, let’s punch the bag for a bit.”
//
“Happy Friday.” You say to Harry Friday morning when you see he’s in.
“Morning, babe.” He smiles and gestures for you to come in. He gives you a kiss on the cheek.
“Do anything fun last night?”
“I went to the gym with Andre.”
“Oh good! Did a little boxing?” You get into a fighting stance and pretend to jab at Harry which makes him laugh.
“Yeah.” He grabs your wrists to get you to stop. “That’s enough of that.”
“What’s wrong? Don’t want me to beat your ass up?” You giggle.
“You’re in a particularly chipper mood for someone who hasn’t had much sleep.”
Perhaps to help yourself get to sleep you used your favorite purple item to tire yourself out, but he didn’t need to know that.
“Just happy to see you, now let me go.” He releases your wrists. “Do you feel like grabbing a bite to eat tonight?”
“Like a date?” He perks up.
“No, I mean hanging out as friends, why would we go on a date?” You furrow your brows and gasp. “Harry, do you like me?”
“You’re the least funny person I’ve ever fucking met.” He chuckles.
“Then why are you laughing?”
“Because you’re an idiot.” He smiles and shakes his head.
“Okay, okay, yes, like a date. I feel bad that I was busy these last couple of days, I thought it might be fun to actually go out for dinner. Give you a break from cooking.”
“Yeah, that sounds nice, actually. Where do you feel like going?”
“Thai?”
“Oh, excellent idea. Could definitely go for some drunken noodles. Let’s make it like a real date, I’ll pick you up at your place and everything.”
“Does seven work?”
“It’s perfect.”
You blow him a kiss and leave his office. Harry was absolutely feral, he didn’t know if he was going to last all day and evening without getting you naked, but he was up for the challenge.
//
Harry wanted to kill you when he saw you walk out the door of your apartment building. You were wearing this long coat, but you had heels on, and you were wearing red lipstick. How the fuck was he supposed to get through his meal. You smile at him while he opens the car door for you.
When you get to the restaurant and get seated, he wanted to kill you again. A red dress to match your red lipstick.
“You’re staring.” You say as you look over the menu, and then look up at him through your lashes.
“You just look really nice, is all.”
“I do? I just threw this look together. Thank you.”
“Right.”
“You were thinking of the drunken noodle, yeah? I might do that too.”
“Wanna split that and some sushi.”
“Sure.”
You each order a cocktail with dinner and Harry gets distracted watching your lips move around the straw each time you take a sip. Not only that, but your lipstick ends up smearing onto your chopsticks. You both chat about how your weeks went, and what you were planning for finals.
“How’s your actual paper coming?”
“Good! My references page grows every day. I’ve got twenty pages written so far, but I have to edit what I have so it’ll be like ten when I’m done. It’s awfully frustrating.”
“Any time you want me to look something over for you I’m happy to.”
“Thanks, I appreciate that. Lisa’s been looking things over for me. She’s really happy with my work.”
“Why wouldn’t she be, you’re brilliant.” He reaches across the table and gives your hand a squeeze.
“Thought I was an idiot.” You pout.
“I was teasing.” He rolls his eyes.
You hum your response just as your entrees come to the table. The drunken noodle didn’t not disappoint, and neither did your second drink. Once dinner is through, and Harry pays (even though you nearly lunged across the table for the check), you head out to his car. He hands you a mint to suck on and he pops one into his mouth. When he pulls up to your building, he parks, and turns the car off. He unbuckles and so do you, but you stop him from opening the door. He looks at you confused, but you grin, and get your fist around the collar of his jacket and yank him towards you, slotting your mouth over his. It was probably too cold to be making out in the car, but Harry was too busy feeling dizzy from your kiss to care. You suck on his tongue, tasting the mint he had been sucking on. Your hands go to his hair, messing it up completely. Your tongue drags from his jaw to his neck, and then you bite down.
“Can’t leave a mark there.” He grunts, but doesn’t pull you away.
“You’re absolutely right, sorry.” You wipe the corners of your mouth. “Let’s go inside.”
Harry nods and gets out of the car, jogging around the other side to open your door. Once you’re inside your place, and your coats are off, you’re on him. You take him by surprise, pressing him up against the wall right outside your bedroom. You suck on his bottom lip as you unbutton his shirt. You leave kiss marks from your lipstick down his stomach. You undo his belt and get his pants to drop to the floor. You get into a ski-squat position to kiss his growing bulge over his boxers.
“Y/N, please.” He breathes.
“You tease all the time.” You look up at him. “Why can’t I?”
“Because…”
“What’s that?” You stand up fully. “Can’t find a good enough reason?” Harry swallows hard as you look him up and down.
“I’m a bit tongue tied at the moment.”
“Don’t tell me after all this time that I still make you nervous, Harry.” Your lips ghost the shell of his ear as your hand slides down his body, palming him through his boxers.
“Who said you made me nervous, ngh, in the first place?” You step back and give him a look. “Okay, you used to make me a little nervous, but that was only because my feelings for you caught me off guard. If I had time to get ahead of it, you would have been the nervous one.”
“You think so?”
“I know so.”
Harry kicks his jeans away, and dips down to lift you over his shoulder. You squeal and giggle as he carries you into your bedroom. You loved when you could rile him up like this. Just as there were times you wanted to make all the decisions for him, you liked it just as much as when he made all the decisions. After the week you had of research and writing, you just wanted to be taken care of. That’s why you wore the dress, and that’s why you wore the lipstick. You knew it would work him up all night.
“What are you gonna do to me, Harry?” You ask innocently once he’s gotten you on the bed.
“What do you want me to do?” He asks as he shrugs his shirt the rest of the way off and sets his glasses down.
“I want…you to do whatever you want.”
“You sure wanna give me the full reigns like that? Because I would love to-“
“You’re not fucking my ass.”
“Ever?”
“I’ll tell you what, I get to do you first. You should have to feel what it’s like, and if it doesn’t hurt, then you can do me.”
“Okay.” He shrugs.
“Okay?!”
“Yeah.”
“You want me to fuck your ass?!”
“If it means I get to fuck yours, I’ll even let you tie me up when you do it.”
“Oh…well, that’s actually pretty tempting.” You look off as if to think about it. “A conversation for another time, though. For now…just do whatever else.”
“Okay.” He knees onto the bed and hovers over you, kissing you tenderly. “I’m gonna fuck you with these heels on.” You giggle at him. “With just these heels on.”
The best kind of shiver goes up your spine and you bite your bottom lip. You get off the bed and stand so he can unzip your dress. Harry slowly drags the zipper down, and kisses on your neck and shoulder. Your dress drops to the floor and you smirk as you turn around.
“What…the…” His eyes nearly pop out of his head.
He thought you were simply wearing black nylons, but you had actually worn thigh high stockings attached to a garter belt. You had a pair of black lace panties and a bra to match.
“Do you like it?”
“You’ve been spoiling me with all these little outfits.” He hands go to your hips. “You look so incredibly sexy, Y/N. How’d I get so lucky, hm?”
“I ask myself the same question all the time, Harry.”
His hands slide up your back as your mouths reconnect. He unhooks your bra and tosses it somewhere before getting you back on the bed. He kisses on your neck while his palms rub over your breasts, getting your nipples to pebble. He tweaks them a bit before working his mouth down to nip and suck. He practically slobbers all over you, but you don’t care at all, his mouth on you feels too good. You realize he’s giving you a hickey right on your nipple and you groan.
Harry works his way down your body, biting at the parts of the garter that were attached to your stockings. He tugs it all the way off, leaving you in the lace panties, stockings and heels. He licks his lips before kissing you through the lace.
“H-Harry, please.”
“Just wanted to see how wet you were.” He smirks and tugs the panties down your legs. “Good now?”
“Mhm, thank you.”
He opens your legs and blows softly on the area before licking the flat of his tongue up your center. He had you right where he wanted you, so he stops and you look up at him.
“Get on your stomach for me.” He says. You furrow your brows in confusion but you do as he says. You start to get on your hands and knees, but he stops you. “Nope, just stay flat on your stomach, babe.”
“Okay.” You rest your chin on your folded arms.
Harry sits on his calves next to you and starts running his hands over your ass. You fucked up when you told him he could do whatever he wanted because now he was just going to take his sweet time with you. His hand slips between your cheeks and he rubs around your folds. You take a deep breath as he daintily plays with you. He would take his hand away and your body would arch to chase after him. He was getting you wetter with each touch. His middle finger slides inside you and just as soon he slides it out. You look over at him and see the slight smirk on his face as he looks at his now sticky finger. He does it again and again, and then he slides two fingers inside you.
“Harry.” You whine.
“You’ve been stressed, I want you to relax.” He says as he slowly fingers you. It was agonizing, but it felt good the deeper he would go.
He slides his fingers back out and drags all of the wetness up to your other hole, and then he slides back inside, nice and deep. He shifts himself a little so he could still finger you, but his other hand had a grip on one of your ass cheeks so he could see what he was doing better. He brings his mouth down to nip at your plush skin, and then his tongue slides over your hole. You grit your teeth from the sensation. In the five months you’ve been intimate with Harry this aspect of things still surprised you. You welcomed it because he knew what he was doing and it made you feel really good, but it was still surprising nonetheless. You squeeze around his fingers and start grinding against him and the bed. You start breathing heavier, and you feel your orgasm bubbling up. He feels it too, so he pulls his mouth and fingers from you.
“Harry, please don’t edge me tonight, come on.”
“For someone that wants me to be in charge you sure like telling me what to do.” He smirks down at you, and smooth some hair away from your face. “If you wanted it quick why didn’t you just fuck me instead?”
“I…I…I don’t know.”
“Don’t worry, I’m not gonna make you wait for long. Just…humor me, yeah?”
“Okay.”
He smiles and goes to sit up against your headboard. He opens his legs and looks at you.
“Come sit in front of me.”
You sit up and do just that. He uses his legs to hook over yours to keep yours open. You welcome the weight of his on yours. He didn’t want you to be able to clamp together, this you were sure of. He makes a fist with your hair and wraps it around his wrist to move your head how he wants. He tilts your head so you’ll look at him, and he leans in to kiss you. Just as his tongue meets yours, his other hand travels down your body, giving your breast a nice squeeze before getting to your clit. You gasp into his mouth. His lips don’t leave yours even though you’re practically breathing him in and out. His fingers go between your folds, gathering all you’ll give him, and then back to your clit to rub circles into you. You hook an arm up around his head to tug at his hair, and your other hand digs into his thigh. He loved when he could get you like this, just totally at his mercy.
“H-Harry.” You mumble against his lips. He sucks on your bottom lip as two of his fingers slip inside you while his thumb stays on your clit. “Fuck.” You breathe.
You were getting close again, and you wanted to close your legs desperately, but his were stronger, so he keeps you in place. He does let you grind against him, though, so you’re grateful. His curled fingers were petting perfectly against your spongey front wall. You could feel how swollen your lips were getting from him continuously kissing you.
“Oh…oh my god.” You moan.
“Yeah? Feel it coming?”
“Yes.” Your eyes flutter open just for a moment, and you see him waiting for you to finish your statement. “Harry.”
“I want you to feel so good, come for me, Y/N.” He says as his lips ghost against yours.
“Shit, H-Harry.” You were squeezing around his fingers again. “Feels amazing.”
“Let go, Y/N.” He bites at your lower lip again and starts rubbing your clit furiously.
“Oh, fuck!” You start panting against him and then you lose it. Your head rolls back against his shoulder and your back arches. Your nails press crescents into his thigh. He rubs gentler as you come down from your high and catch your breath. He presses kisses to your cheek and neck.
“Wasn’t so bad was it?” He whispers into your ear, causing goosebumps to raise all over your body. “Waiting just a little bit?”
“No, it was fine.” You crane your neck to look at him. “You just like to play too damn much.” You smirk, and it makes him laugh into your neck. “Will you fuck me now?”
“Yes, baby.”
He lets you settle comfortably onto your back as he gets his boxers off, and a condom on. He gets on top of you and slides in, a sigh of relief leaving your lips. You hold him close to you, wrapping your arms and legs around him, your chests rubbing against each other. He rocks in and out of you as you hold his head to your neck. He sucks on your skin, overwhelming all of your senses. You start feeling your eyes burn with tears, and you try to blink them away. Oh no, you think to yourself. He kisses up your cheek and feels the wetness from the tears, and stops altogether to look at you, cradling your cheeks his hands.
“What’s happening, am I hurting you?!”
“No! I…” You start laughing as you cry. “I just feel really good.”
“So you’re crying?!”
“It happens sometimes. I can’t really control it…it’ll stop on its own.”
“Fucking scared me.” He chuckles and wipes his thumbs under your eyes. “You…you look like a raccoon.” He bursts into a heavier laugh and so do you.
“Good, can’t wait to see how fucked up I look when we’re done.”
//
You did look awfully fucked up, and you washed your face accordingly before getting into bed with Harry. He wraps himself around you, and you almost feel high from how cared for he makes you feel. He was like the teddy bear you always wished you had growing up. Harry came with a lot of baggage, more than you really thought, but then again you only knew so much about him when you were just friends. Sometimes it scared you to basically be stepping into a motherly role for Andy when you had no idea how to be a mom. You babysat when you were younger, and that’s all you really had to base watching him on. But times like these, when Harry was holding onto you like his life depended on it, you really felt like none of it mattered. You’d take being a little scared of the unknown over being without him completely any day. You were happy that you were friends for a while before you got together, but knowing what you know now, and how happy he made you…perhaps you would have been less stingy about your feelings towards dating a colleague.
//
Sunday evening you were cooking dinner with Harry at his place. He had let you be Saturday so you could get some chores done, and so you could work, which you greatly appreciated. He did, however, ask you to spend the night Sunday because he wanted you there when Andy got back from Connecticut. The conversation they had on the phone Saturday after the funeral was rough, and Harry didn’t know if he could handle Andy being so emotional alone.
Just as you were getting the casserole you were making into the oven, you both hear the front door open. Andy looked exhausted, as did Paige. He perks up a bit when he sees you with Harry.
“Hi.” He says shyly. “I’ll come out in a minute, I just wanna put my stuff away.” He says and goes to his room.
“How was it?” Harry asks Paige as she steps further into the home.
“Rough…I…can’t believe I really had to say goodbye to my dad, you know?”
“I’m so sorry.” You say.
“Thank you.” She swallows. “Um, my mom is in the car, so I can’t stay long. She’s going to move in with us…which was a super fun conversation to have. Allie is taking care of her condo, and we were able to pack most of her essentials while we were there.”
“If there’s anything I can do…” Harry says.
“I know, I’ll let you know, thank you.”
“How is she holding up…your mom?” You ask.
“As good as she can. I think she’s still processing everything, she’s been stoic during the day, but I’ve heard her cry at night. I’m glad she’ll be with all of us. Noah was a huge help in keeping her distracted. He actually ended up coming with Rachel on Thursday.”
Harry looks at you quickly, and then back at Paige.
“I figured he would. Is everything fine with you two?”
“Water under the bridge…he also…feels bad for how he spoke to you.”
“It’s fine.”
“Anyways, Christmas will definitely be interesting this year, but we’ll all get through it together. There are some things I need to meet with you about…some stuff in my dad’s will you need to know about. Would you be able to meet for lunch or something this week?”
“Sure.” Harry takes out his phone to look at his planner. “I’ve got time Wednesday if that works for you.”
“Wednesday works. I’m gonna be working from home for a bit to get my mom settled, so I’ll be able to meet you easily.”
“Alright.”
Andy comes back out with his hands in his pockets.
“I’m gonna get going, honey.”
“Okay.” He gives his mom a big hug. “Love you.”
“Love you too.” She waves off to Harry and you before leaving.
Andy looks at the door for a few moments and then turns to look at Harry. His eyes well up, and his bottom lip quivers.
“Come here.” Harry says softly, and Andy throws himself into Harry’s arms. “I know, you’ve been through a lot.”
You come over to the two of them to rub Andy’s back, and it helps him breathe easier.
“You’re really brave, Andy. You did a good thing by going with your mum.” You tell him.
“If you wanna take another day off from school you can.” Harry tells him.
“No, that’s okay.” Andy sniffles and looks up at the two of you. “I miss my friends, and I just wanna get back into my routine.” He steps away from Harry and wipes his eyes. “Can I go call Brandon?”
“Sure, dinner will be ready in an hour if you feel hungry.”
“Okay.” Andy looks at you. “Are you staying the night?”
“I’ve been invited to, yes.”
“Good.” He smiles. “I like it when you’re here.”
Your heart nearly bursts as he walks down the hall to his room. Harry kisses your cheek and goes back into the kitchen.
“How are you doing, are you okay?” Brandon asks Andy over the phone.
“I’m doing better now…yesterday was the worst. I don’t think I’ve ever seen my mom cry so much. Noah helped her calm down, but…”
“But what?”
“Well, it’s weird, I’ve seen my mom cry before, and my dad is usually the one that can get her stop completely.”
“Your dad is so chill, it’s probably just his entire vibe, you know?”
“I wish he had been there.”
“Why didn’t he go?”
“I don’t really know. I guess my mom’s side of the family doesn’t exactly love him, but I don’t know why. She has to meet with him later this week to talk about something my Gramp left behind. No one tells me anything, though.”
“Did you get to see your cousins at least?”
“Yeah! It was so weird, like, people were laughing and having fun every day until Saturday hit. Then it all got real. I was looking at a ton of pictures of my Gramp from when he was young, and I sort of look like him…in the nose.”
“I was gonna say, you look just like your dad.” Brandon giggles. “It’s the hair.” Andy giggles too.
“That’s another reason why I wished he was there. My mom never gets the mousse right, only my dad really knows how to put it in.”
“Is that you get those really curly curls?”
“Yup.”
“Did you have to wear a suit?”
“Yeah, but I need a new one, I’m getting too tall for this one.”
“You’re gonna be a giant, Andy.”
“Last time I saw my doctor, she told me I was probably going to be six feet!”
“Holy shit!”
“I know!”
“So…you’re gonna be back in school tomorrow?”
“Yeah, did you get all my homework for me?”
“Mhm, it’s in my locker, and I took notes for you too.”
“Thanks.”
“No problem. It was really boring while you were gone…I…you know, I missed you.”
Andy could feel his cheeks heating up.
“I missed you too.” He says softly. “Um, maybe you could come over sometime this week. I’m sure I’ll need help catching up.”
“Yeah! Hey…you missed when we talked about bus buddies for winter program, and…well…you’ll be mine again this year, right?”
“Who else would I sit next to?” Andy laughs. “Of course.”
“Okay cool, just wanted to make sure.”
The oven goes off and you take the casserole out. Harry takes a big whiff and hums in adoration. He wraps his arms around you and kisses your neck.
“Smells so good, babe. Thank you for putting this together.”
“Oh, it was no problem.”
“Ahem.” Andy says, smirking at the two of you. “You could save that for your room, you know?” He says as he sits down at the table.
“It’s just a hug.” Harry rolls his eyes, and cuts up the casserole as you get the plates.
“Right.”
“How’s Brandon?” You ask, trying to change the subject. You set a plate down in front of Andy and he thanks you.
“He’s good…he asked me to be his bus buddy for winter program again this year.”
“That’s good.” Harry says as he sits down.
“And he got all my homework for me and took extra notes. I told me we could hang out after school at some point this week, would that be okay?”
“Sure.” Harry shrugs. “I could bring you both to school so you could get your homework done.”
“No, I’d rather hang out here if that’s alright.”
“Okay, just pick a night and let me know so I can make something good for dinner.” Harry smiles.
Andy chews on his inner cheek, having not taken a bite of dinner yet.
“Andy…I can make you something else if you’re not into the casserole.” You say.
“It’s not that…my stomach just feels weird.”
“Weird how?” Harry asks. “Do you think you caught a bug or something?”
“No…I…feel, like, nervous? I can’t really describe it.”
“Nervous about what?” You ask softly.
Andy looks at you and goes to speak, but then he looks at his dad, and decides to take a bite of food instead.
“This is good, Y/N, thanks for making it.”
You and Harry look at each other. You know it’s best not to pry, so you let Andy sit there and eat. After dinner is cleaned up, Harry goes to take a shower since he didn’t have time earlier.
“Y/N?” Andy says to you shyly.
“Yeah?”
“Um…you’ve never seen my room before, would you like to?”
“Sure! I’d be honored.” You smile and walk down the hall with him. He shows you everything and you look around. “This is a really nice space, Andy.” You note the Ariana Grande poster on the wall. He also has a smaller poster of Michael Che and Colin Jost. “Do you watch SNL?”
“Sometimes Dad lets me watch reruns, yeah.” He looks over at his poster. “They’re both really funny, even if I don’t always get it.”
“Yeah.” You smile. “My dad used to tape SNL so we could watch it at as a family on Sundays. Then he could fast forward the more adult content.” You chuckle. “And you like Ari?” You point to the other poster.
“Her voice is pretty.” He mumbles.
“I think so too. She’s very talented.”
“Dad said he’d take me to see her next time she tours…but he doesn’t really like her music.”
“Well, luckily for you I do, so I’ll just go with you.”
“Really?!”
“Sure.” You shrug.
“Y/N?”
“Yeah?”
“Do you ever feel nervous around my dad?”
“What do you mean?”
“Like…how did you put it one time? Butterflies, can butterflies feel like being nervous?”
“Sometimes.” You sigh with a smile. “Yeah, your dad gives me butterflies a lot.”
“Does it ever feel scary?”
“It did at first, but now I welcome it. Is that the type of nervous you’re feeling?”
“I don’t…I don’t know.” He starts sniffling and you’re not sure what to do.
“Can I sit next to you?” He nods yes and you sit next to him on his bed. “Would you like a hug?” You didn’t want to just touch him without asking. He nods again, and you put your arm around him. He leans into you. “Is this because Brandon told you he missed you?”
“I just wasn’t expecting him to say that. I told him I missed him too. He said school was boring without me. I…he makes me feel this way a lot, and it keeps happening more and more, but I don’t really know why.”
“You two are just really close, it’s okay.”
“Did my dad give you butterflies before you got together?”
“He made me feel nervous, yeah. Like…I guess I wasn’t putting two and two together much when he would say or do certain things. I had a feeling he might like me, but it took me some more time to realize I liked him too.”
“You know how I knew he liked you?” He looks up at you with a smile.
“How?” You smile down at him.
“He started talking about you a lot at dinner. At first he’d say my friend said something funny today, or on Sunday nights he’d tell me he went out with his new friend, or how smart his new friend was during game night. Then he started using your name, and anytime I’d ask him about you he’d, like, smile before answering. It was obvious.” He rolls his eyes. “Then when you came on that hike with us…I had never seen him so…”
“Rigid?”
“Yeah! Good thing I was there, or he never would have invited you to my party.” He scoffs.
“Yeah, good thing.” You give his shoulder a squeeze. “Andy…you have a lot of time to figure out how you’re feeling about things and people. Middle school is a really confusing time, but I want you to know whatever you’re feeling is totally valid, and I’m happy to talk any time, okay?”
“Okay, thanks.” He smiles at you, and you share a hug before you get up. “I’m gonna read and then go to bed.”
“Alright, I’ll let your dad know, sweet dreams.”
You come out to the living room to find Harry watching TV. You plop down next to him and sigh.
“That was cute.” He says to you without looking at you.
“What?”
“The chat you just had with him.” He looks at you now with a smile.
“How did you…?”
“I popped my head in for a second while you were sitting with him. I didn’t want to disturb the moment so I walked away quickly.”
“I think he has a crush on Brandon. He has butterflies when he talks to him, and judging by what Brandon said to him, I could see Brandon maybe having a crush too.”
Harry sighs and nods.
“I…I’m petrified of him getting his heart broken this young.” He runs his hands over his face. “I’m almost hoping it’s reciprocated.”
“I think we’re all hoping it is.” You give his thigh a squeeze and snuggle into his side. “What are we watching?”
//
Harry was really nervous to ask you the question he had been avoiding all day, but he was getting down to the wire, and he needed to rip the band aid. It was Wednesday, and Harry was supposed to meet Paige, but she couldn’t get away from her mother for lunch. She had some time in the late afternoon, though.
“Y/N?” Harry taps on your door frame and you smile at him.
“Hi, what’s up?”
“Could I ask a huge favor of you?”
“What do you need?”
“Would you be able to pick Andy from school? I can call them and let them know you’re safe for him to go with. I…wasn’t able to meet Paige for lunch, but she has time in a bit, so-“
“What time?”
“He gets out at 2:30…”
“Sure, I could do that. My last class ends at two.”
“God, you’re a lifesaver. I’m sorry if this messes with your afternoon.”
“It doesn’t. Do you want me to get something started for dinner or help him get started with his homework?”
“No, that’s alright. Oh, shit.” He groans.
“What?”
“Brandon’s supposed to come over after school, fuck.”
“Harry, I can get them both home. I can just work up in your loft, right?”
“You really don’t mind?”
“Of course not.”
Harry’s entire body relaxes and he comes over to you. He tilts your chin up so he can lean down to give you a steamy kiss.
“I love you so much, thank you.”
“You’re, um, you’re welcome.” You mouth feels dry all of a sudden. He kisses you again before you can get a sip of water.
“I’m gonna call the school and text Andy. I have to go in a minute, thank you, Y/N, seriously.”
You nod as he steps out of your office. It made you sad sometimes because Harry really was doing the single dad thing, and you knew it wore in him at times. You wanted to help alleviate things as much as could.
//
“I’m so sorry about lunch, my mom was insisting on coming for the conversation, and I just didn’t wanna put you through that.” Paige says when they sit down at a coffee shop that was a midway point between their homes.
“Thanks, I appreciate that.”
“Y/N’s picking Andy up from school?” Harry nods at her. “Good.” She swallows. “So…basically…my father put you in his will.”
“What?!” She slides some documents for him to read. “Why would he do that?”
“I don’t know exactly. He last updated it three years ago, and he left all these personal letters with it. This one was for you…take your time to read it.”
Harry takes the envelope and opens it. His eyes widen when he sees the pristine calligraphy:
Harry,
I know I haven’t always been the best father in law, or whatever I’m considered to be since you and Paige never married. Looking back on it, I know Lydia and I could have handled things better with you. I’ve had some time to reflect, and I know money can’t buy love, but I hope you’ll accept this as some form of an apology. Thanks to you, I have a grandson, and he’s one hell of one. I’ve loved watching him grow, and every day I’m thankful you didn’t just pack up and try to take him to London with you. I’m leaving him some money as well, mostly a trust fund that can be used for when goes to college. He can access it when he’s eighteen. My wish is for him to go to whatever college he wants, and not have to worry about the finances. The money I’m leaving you, however, is to be set aside for a rainy day. I trust Paige with what will be left to her, but I need to know you have something just in case she ever runs into any trouble. I know she can take care of herself, but I know if she ever had a problem she’d go to you first. I know she’s met someone new, but she still speaks of you so fondly. I’m glad you two have worked things out the way you have, even if I don’t always express it. That’s more so for Lydia’s sake. You know what they say: Happy Wife, Happy Life.
All my love,
Nathan
Harry was speechless, and teary eyed. He had no idea Nathan had been harboring such kindness. Why not pull him aside some time and just talk man to man? The last time Harry saw him was at Andy’s eleventh birthday party, and now he was just riddled with guilt for sort of being a dick. Maybe if he had made more of an effort to speak with him they could have had this conversation.
“Wow, uh…”
“His note to me made me speechless too.” Paige says. “I think…I think he knew he had developed a heart condition, and kept it to himself so we wouldn’t be worried. He always said being the father of two girls made him want to be our superman, so…”
“So he kept his ailments to himself.” Harry sighs with understanding.
“Course I was closer with him than Allie, but I feel like that happens with any youngest kid.”
“You were very precious to him. You could tell. Allie isn’t close with your mother either, to be fair.”
“Can you blame her? Who would want to be close to such a shrill woman?” Paige scoffs. “God, and now she’s living with me.” She groans. “At least she has her own area of the home.”
“Paige…you need to make sure you set some boundaries. This is your home that she’s living in now, you get to make the rules.”
“I’m terrible at doing that though.” She pouts. “And Noah doesn’t wanna make waves with her either, even though she loves him. You’re way better at laying down the law. You never had a problem standing up to her.”
“Because I had nothing to lose.” He smirks. “What could she say to me?”
“Very true.” She chuckles. “Anyways, the lawyers are going to be cutting all of the checks soon. Since it’s an inheritance you shouldn’t have to worry about it getting taxed as income, and the check will be mailed directly to your house. The money for Andy will stay in the trust fund he set up.”
“Right, okay, all that sounds good. I mean, I know we both put away for his college fund, but it’s nice to know we have some extra cushion for it.”
“Yeah, definitely.” She sighs.
“it’ll get easier, Paige.”
“I know…” She looks away for a moment. “I just feel terrible that he’s not going to get to walk me down the aisle.”
“Maybe Andy could do it.”
“No, I want him to walk my mom down.” She looks at Harry. “It doesn’t matter right now, anyways. It’s months away.”
“This summer, right?”
“Mhm…you got our save the date?”
“I did.” He nods.
“She’s invited too…Y/N…I’m assuming she’ll be your plus one.”
“Oh, do I get a plus one? Here I was thinking I’d go stag and try to get in good with one of your lovely cousins.”
“Harry!” She smacks his hand playfully. “Don’t even joke.” She rolls her eyes.
“In all seriousness, you really don’t think it’ll be weird with me there?”
“No, I want you there…everyone does. Does it make you uncomfortable?”
“Not necessarily.” He shrugs. “I want you to marry Noah. I just know other people are going to think it’s weird because they don’t understand how we all are.”
“Fuck ‘em.”
//
Meanwhile…
You get to the middle school precisely at 2:30PM. You weren’t sure if Andy remembered what your car looked like, so you decide to stand outside of it, and lean against the passenger door. It was a bitterly cold day, clouds covering the sun, but you don’t mind it. Slowly but surely you start to see kids trickle out. Lines going out to buses, and other kids meeting parents at their cars. Andy and Brandon come out all bundled up. You wave at them and they hustle over faster.
“Hi, boys!” You say brightly as you all get into your warm car. “How was school?”
“Good.” They say at the same time.
“Y/N, how come Dad couldn’t come get us?”
“What am I, chopped liver?” You scoff and it makes them both laugh.
“No…just wondering.”
“He had to go meet your mum to chat about some stuff. They were supposed to meet for lunch, but this time worked better so I’ll be taking you home and hanging out. Anything in particular you boys want for dinner?”
“Can we have pizza?”
“Nice try.” You look at them through the rearview mirror. “Dad bought plenty of groceries on Sunday, we’ll be eating in.”
“I thought you said she was fun?” Brandon whispers to Andy.
“She is.” He whispers back and you smile to yourself.
You get the boys inside, and they practically race to Andy’s room. You fix them with a snack of cheese and crackers, and then go up to Harry’s loft. You didn’t go up there often because it was his work space, but you needed the extra quiet. His setup was great. He had an extra docking station so he could just plug his computer in and use two screens. All you had at home was an HDMI and a spare monitor. Your eyes widen when you see he’s added a new photo to his desk. He had a lot of family photos on the walls up here, ones of him and his mum and sister. Ones of his nieces and nephews, quite a few of Andy. Your favorite was the picture of him holding Andy skin to skin when he was first born. But the new one sitting on his desk was of the two of you. He must have just gotten it printed because it was from Thanksgiving. Phil had taken a nice picture of the two of you while you were still at his place.
“God, he’s so sweet.” You pout at the photo and shake your head. Focus, Y/N.
After two hours you decide your eyes and wrists need a rest. You go down to Andy’s room and clear your throat to get their attention. Brandon was sitting on Andy’s bed with a notebook and textbook open, and Andy was sat at his desk.
“You’re still doing homework?”
“Sixth grade is heavy, Y/N.” Andy says.
“Yikes.” You chuckle. “Well, have you decided what you’d like for dinner?”
“Tacos?”
“Sure, I could make tacos.” You nod. “I know your dad got everything for that, and I bet he’ll like it for dinner too.”
“Do you need help?” Brandon asks.
“I can handle it, but thank you very much for offering.” You smile. “When you finish your homework feel free to go play some video games or watch TV.”
“Thanks, Y/N.” Andy smiles and turns back to his studies.
You nod and make your way to the kitchen. You were wondering when Harry would be home exactly. You didn’t think his conversation would take as long as it was. You knew you needed to make some ground beef for the boys, so you get that started first, and then you get the black bean crumbles together for you and Harry. The rest is pretty easy, you just needed to put out all of the fixings. Due to the sizzling of the meat in the pan you don’t even hear the front door open.
“Mm, smells like tacos in here!” Harry chimes as he takes his coat off. He comes over to you, wrapping his arms around you from behind. “You’re an angel you know that?”
“It’s just ground beef and taco seasoning.” You giggle as he plants kisses to your cheek before letting you go.
“No, it’s more than that. Thank you so much for getting them. What are they up to?”
“Finishing homework, I told them they could play video games when they were done, but dinner’s almost ready, so maybe that’ll be an after dinner thing.” You shrug.
“I’m gonna go say hi to them.”
You nod and watch Harry walk down the hall.
“Hi, boys.”
“Hey, Dad.”
“Hi, Mr. Styles.”
They were both sitting on Andy’s bed, looking at something on Brandon’s smart phone.
“Dinner’s just about ready, why don’t you both wash up and then come to the table?”
The boys get up and go into the bathroom to wash their hands. Harry comes out to you putting everything on the table.
“Smell so good, babe, thank you.”
“You’re more than welcome.” You smile.
The boys scarf their food down at dinner so they can play their video games. You and Harry don’t mind, it gave you a chance to have some adult conversation at the table. He tells you about the money Nathan has left him to put away, and he tells you about the letter he had left for him.
“That’s incredible.”
“I know, I’m still in shock, honestly.”
“How’s she doing?”
“Okay, I guess. It’s a really big change, you know? Losing a parent, and then having the other one move in with you. Her relationship with her mum is so strained, but maybe it’ll get better with them having to be around each other so much. That’s my hope anyways. Lydia can be such a…” He looks over at the boys and then back to you, whispering, “bitch.”
You nearly choke on your food from laughing. Harry cleans up the dishes since you cooked, and you go sit on the couch to watch the boys play Mario Kart.
“B, do I need to bring you home, or is Dad coming for you?”
“Dad’s coming around seven, Mr. Styles.”
Harry looks at his watch and sees that it’s quarter of seven.
“Did you get all your homework done?” He asks.
“Yes.” They both say at the same time.
Brandon’s dad comes to get him at seven, and he gives Andy a hug goodbye, and thanks everyone for having him.
“He’s so polite.” You say.
“Yeah, I’m really glad Andy is friends with him. Nice to have a good kid around him, you know?” Everyone goes back to the couch. “An hour of TV, then I want you in bed with a book, buddy.”
“Okay.” Andy says as he gets cozy on the loveseat.
Harry gets up a couple of time while the two of you watch TV after Andy goes to bed.
“What are you doing?”
“I just wanna see if he’s asleep yet, and he is. Totally zonked out now.” He grins at you.
“And?”
“So…” He nods towards his bedroom door.
“Oh!” You grin and get up. “You don’t think he’ll hear anything?” You whisper.
“Nah, he sleeps with music on.” Harry says as he closes and locks his door. “But locking the door can’t hurt for the time being.” He wraps his arms around your waist and pulls you into his chest. “Missed you today.”
“Missed you too.” You wrap your arms around his neck and kiss him.
“I wanna treat you. You were so good to me today, good to them.”
“Harry…I don’t need anything special for doing the bare minimum. I’m your girlfriend, and you have a kid, what I did today is just part of it.” You shrug.
“Even still.” He kisses you. “I wanna make you feel good.” You raise an eyebrow at him. “No teasing, I promise.”
“Okay.”
You strip yourself of your clothes and lay down on his bed. He strips down to his boxers and hovers over you, taking the time to lick into your mouth, to kiss you like he needed to. He’s wanted your tongue on his all day. Kissing you alone really did just make him feel good. It made him feel fuzzy all over, and he loved it. He trails his mouth down your body, not spending too much time on your breasts, but enough. He really didn’t want to make you wait that long this time. He parts your legs and kisses from your knee to your inner thigh, leaving a couple of love bites behind that had you squirming.
He sucks two of his fingers into his mouth and then brings them down to your center, pushing inside and twisting. He watches as your eyes roll back, then you prop yourself up on your elbows so you can watch him. He pumps in and out of you twisting his fingers each time. He sits up slightly, getting one of your legs over his shoulder, and uses his other hand to rub at your throbbing clit.
“Fuck, Harry.” You grit your teeth.
“Good?”
“Mhm.” You whimper.
“Good.” He kisses your knee and continues on with what he’s doing.
He does something that surprises you when he lets your leg go back on the bed. His fingers pump in and out of you slower, now starting to curl up, but he wells up some spit and lets it drip from his mouth and down to your clit. Your mouth falls open and your cheeks heat up. He flashes you a smirk before bringing his mouth down to your clit. He sucks harshly on you and you have to bite down on your forearm to keep from moaning out too loudly.
Harry moves his face from side to side, and then looks up at you as he keeps his mouth on you while letting more of his spit pour over you. One of your hands flies to his hair for you to tug on and his eyes flutter closed. His tongue laps around your clit as his fingers continue to work magic inside you.
“H-Harry.” You moan in a whisper. You were getting closer, and you didn’t know how much longer you could hold on for, not that you really needed to, but everything just felt so good you wanted it to last.
He makes the ‘come here’ motion inside you as fast as he possibly can, the tips of his fingers no doubt pruny at that this point from how drenched you are. You bite your bottom lip so harshly you think you’ve broken the skin. Your vision goes hazy and your back arches off the bed. You hear a ringing in your ears from the all the rushing blood. He gives you a moment to compose yourself before licking you clean. Your body jolts up from the sensitivity.
“God.” You breathe as your vision becomes clear again. “You’re, like, too good at that.”
“Thanks.” He chuckles as he straddles your hips.
“How come you like eating out so much?”
“Almost six months together and you’re just asking that now?”
“I’m suddenly very curious.”
“You’re stalling cause you’re sensitive.”
“Not true.” You scoff.
“Alright, well, I just like it.” He shrugs. “Nothing more to it than that. I like making other people feel good, it helps make me feel good. I’m always throbbing by the time I’m done, you know that.”
“Sorta seems like you have a praise kink.” You smirk. “It makes sense, you like hearing your own name, you get off making someone else feel good. Should I moan more about how good it feels, would you like that, Harry?” You bat your lashes at him.
“I’m getting the condom.” He says as he gets off you, disregarding your question. He slides his boxers down his legs. “Are you gonna be able to keep quiet?”
“I’d love to record us just once so you could hear how much fucking louder you are than me.”
“Don’t even fucking tempt me, you know I know how to set up a proper shot. Could have a professional looking porno on our hands.” He smiles coyly as he slides the condom onto his length.
“Lucky for you I have zero desire to watch myself get fucked.”
“Too bad, you’re so beautiful when you’re getting pumped silly.” He lips ghost over yours as he slowly slides inside you and you gasp into his mouth. “God, you always take it so well.” He smears his lips along yours and takes your bottom lip between his teeth.
“Want it from behind, need to feel you deeper.”
“I’ll do you one better.”
He pulls out and pulls your body so you’re bent over the bed. You prop yourself up on your elbows and he slides back in. You could really feel yourself stretching to fit him. He was nice and snug, and it just felt so right. He grips the back of your neck with one hand and keeps the other on your hip as he gives you long, deep strokes.
“Oh my fucking god.” You groan and clutch at the comforter.
“Better?”
“So much better, fuck, Harry.”
He starts ramming into you, almost making the bed move on the floor. You had to shove your face into the mattress to stifle your moans. He takes his hand off your hip, still using his other one to grip the back of your neck, and sucks his thumb into his mouth for a moment. Then he takes it to rub on your other hole, something he’s done plenty of times before. You were panting into the blankets, and then you come up for air when you feel his tip brush your g-spot. You press your cheek to the bed so you can breathe and moan out.
“Right there, don’t stop, don’t stop, don’t stop, please.”
Harry grunts over and over, biting into his bottom lip, making sure to keep pleasing you. He grits his teeth because he’d be mortified if Andy heard anything. He was thankful that the rooms weren’t right next to each other at least. To make sure you stay quite though he yanks you back to him, still driving in deep, his hand moving to rub your clit, and his other hand moving to open your mouth. You take the signal, and start sucking on two of his fingers. You end up biting down on him when you feel your release come, and he bites into your shoulder to keep himself from screaming. He plants kisses over your shoulders as you both calm down. You release his fingers and he pulls out slowly. You turn around to face him and you kiss him.
“I love you.” Kiss. “I love you so much.” Another kiss. “Never gonna let you go.” You throw your arms around his neck and his eyes widen. No one ever said that to him before.
“I love you too, baby.” He holds you close to him for a few moments, and then eventually you both get cleaned up. He couldn’t stand there with a filled condom forever, after all.
Six months, six entire months. Harry hadn’t had a relationship that lasted this long in a long time, which was pretty sad considering he was almost thirty-three. He holds you a little closer tonight.
//
A couple of weeks went by, and you had gotten into a routine of staying over Harry’s place a couple of nights a week, and when Andy stayed at Paige’s, he’d come to your place, just to keep things equal. Hanukkah was just around the corner, and you had plans to go see your family, but Harry would be in London by then, which was no problem, so you both decide it’ll be fun to exchange gifts on a snowy Sunday.
“I’m so glad finals week is this week.” You say as you peel the potatoes for the latkes.
“Same here.” He says as he gets his food processor out. “But…the closer the semester is to ending, the closer I get to leaving…”
“You don’t sound very excited.” You raise an eyebrow at him.
“I mean, I am…I’ll just miss you.”
“Aw, I’ll miss you too.” You give him a peck on the cheek. “Maybe we can FaceTime and you can introduce me to your family.” You smile.
“I’d like that.”
“Y/N…?” Andy says, coming up to you both with something behind his back. “I was hanging up mine and Dad’s stockings, and…well, I made one for you.” He shows it to you and you gasp.
It was a blue stocking with silver glitter, and your name was written on it in glitter as well.
“Oh, Andy…this is so sweet.” You lean down to give him a hug. “Thank you so much, I’d be honored if you hung it with the others.”
“Okay!” He exclaims before going back into the living room.
“Did you know he was making me one?”
“I did.” Harry nods with a smile. “Had me take him to the craft store the other day after school.”
You pout and look back over towards the living room, then back to Harry.
“You’re raising a very good boy.”
Harry smiles and gets the food processor going to shred the potatoes and onions. You use a cheese cloth to get all of the water out, and then you mix the rest of the ingredients in, and Harry gets some oil going in the pan.
“Andy! Wanna help me form the pancakes?” You holler for him and he comes into the kitchen very excited.
“Yeah!” He washes his hands and helps you make the pancakes while Harry minds them in the pan.
It was a lot of fun for the three of you to cook together. Harry also baked sugar cookies. It wasn’t the healthiest meal, but that’s what the holidays were all about.
“That was so good, I’m stuffed.” Andy says. “I like it with the applesauce the best. I’ve noticed a lot of Jewish food is either fried or sweet.”
“Pretty much.” You laugh. “Are you excited to go to London soon?”
“Yeah! I love getting to see everyone. Grammy always gets me the best stuff.”
“Andy…we don’t go see Grammy because she buys you things.”
“I know that.” Andy mumbles. “But it does make it more fun.”
“What else do you like about going?” You ask.
“I get to see my cousins and my Auntie Gem.” He says as he starts to help clean up the plates.
“Alright, are we ready to decorate the tree?” Harry asks.
“Yeah!” Andy says and goes into the living room.
“Do you feel comfortable with that, Y/N?”
“Of course! Sounds like fun.” You smile.
Andy shows you his favorite ornaments, and explains why. He and Harry used to collect them, it was something just for them when he’d come to visit. You giggle when Harry lifts Andy up to put the star on top. You’re also extremely impressed because it couldn’t be easy to lift up an eleven-year-old.
“Since I won’t see you both for Christmas, I thought it could be fun to do this now.” You say as you grab your gifts for Andy. You and Harry already talked about doing this, but he pretends to be just as surprised. You all sit on the floor and you slide Andy his gifts.
“You didn’t have to get me anything, Y/N.”
“Oh, sure I did. How else would I score brownie points with your dad?” You wink at him and it makes him laugh.
He opens up one box that has a couple of t-shirts in it. One of them has LIFE IS UNFAIR on it with a picture of a roller skate under it. His eyes widen and he beams at you. The other one has CAN YOU REPEAT THE QUESTION? on it, and he smiles just as big.
“I know how much you like that show…so-“
“I love them!” He nearly tackles you with a hug, and you wrap your arms around him. “Thank you!”
“You’re more than welcome.”
“Where did you even find these?” Harry asks.
“I had them made on Etsy.” You shrug. “Here open this one.”
Andy rips the wrapping paper off, and gasps.
“Finally, I’ve been begging Dad for this game.” It was What Do You Meme. “Thanks, Y/N, I’ll be able to play this with my cousins.”
“You’re welcome.” You smile.
“I have something for you too, let me go get it!” He gets up and races to his room. Andy comes back with a small box that he clearly wrapped for himself. “Happy Hanukkah, Y/N.” He smiles and hands it to you.
“Thank you, Andy.” You tare the wrapping paper open, and then open the box. “Oh, wow.”
Andy had made a popsicle stick jewelry box, but he had spray painted it matte black and put some felt on the bottom of it. It was gorgeous, and you couldn’t wait to use it.
“Andy…this is amazing, thank you so much. I can’t wait to put all my rings and stuff in this.”
“Really? You’ll use it?”
“Of course I will! It’s just what I’ve been needing.”
“Cool.” He smiles and looks at Harry. “Well…I, uh, have some homework I need to go do, so…I’ll just be doing that.”
“Did you help him at all with this?” You ask as you move to sit on the couch with Harry.
“Nope, well, I set him up in the garage, but he did it all himself.”
“He’s very talented.” You look the box over. “Can’t even see where he used the hot glue.”
“I…could I give you my gift now? I don’t wanna wait until after New Year’s…”
“Sure! I have yours with me too!” You get up quickly and rummage through your bag for his gift and he grabs your from under the tree.
“Are you…upset at all that I won’t be here for the New Year?”
“Harry, I know it’s not ideal to be apart for it, but next year I’m sure we’ll be together to kiss when the ball drops.”
His cheeks heat up, and he leans in to kiss you.
“That sounds nice.” He nods. “I just felt bad…it was too soon to ask you to come with me, and-“
“Honestly…I probably wouldn’t have gone even if you did ask. And it’s not because I wouldn’t have wanted to, I just really need this time to get some work done.”
“Okay.” He gives your hand a squeeze. “I just wanted to make sure.”
“Thanks.” You smile. “Okay, open.” You plop your gift into his lap and he opens it with a smirk.
“Sunglasses?”
“I saw you looking at them at the Ray-Bans store…do you like them?”
“I love them! They’re great, how do they look?” He puts them on and makes a Zoolander face, making you burst out laughing.
“They’re perfect.”
“Thank you.” He takes them off and puts them into the case, and then kisses your cheek. “Here…I wasn’t sure what to get you…so I hope you like it.”
You side eye him for a moment, and then open up his gift. After clearing the wrapping paper you see it’s a flat, black velvet box.
“Harry…if you spent-“
“I know these sunglasses weren’t cheap, so I don’t wanna hear it, just open it, please.” You slowly open the box and your eyes widen. It was a beautiful necklace. The chain was silver, and the slide was a palm tree that had diamonds all over it. “You talk about how much you love the beach…so I thought you’d like the palm tree, but if you don’t we could go to the store and pick out a different one.” He watches you to try to read you a little, but you were speechless.
“I don’t want to return it…I…I love it Harry.” You look at it. “Would you put it on for me?”
“Yeah!”
You turn around and move your hair while he clasps the chain for you. You turn back around to show him. Usually it was him who looked like a wide eyed puppy, but this time it was you. No one had ever gotten you something like this before.
“It looks wonderful on you.” He tucks some hair behind your ear.
Normally you wouldn’t be so aggressive out in the living room with Andy home, but he did say he’d be in his room doing homework. You practically lunge towards Harry, wrapping your arms around his neck and crashing your lips on his. His hands cup your jaw as he sucks on your bottom lip.
“I’m so glad you like it.” He breathes as he presses his forehead to yours.
“M’never taking it off, and whenever someone asks where I got it I can say my amazing boyfriend got it for me, and I don’t care how cheesy that sounds.” You smile and kiss him again.
“It’s not cheesy at all, praise me all you want.”
“Don’t be silly.” You nudge him with a giggle. “Thank you, seriously, this was so sweet of you.”
“Sorry you won’t be able to use the jewelry box for it.”
“Oh, that’s fine. I have plenty of other things I can put in there.”
“Are you two done being gross?!” Andy shouts from down the hall.
“Yes!” Harry shouts back and starts cleaning up all the wrapping paper.
“Good.” Andy says, plopping down on the couch next to you. “So you like it?”
“Very much, your dad’s got quite the eye.”
Harry comes over with a mug of hot chocolate for everyone. He had been making it in the crock pot all day.
“So…” Andy takes a sip of his warm drink as Harry sits on his other side. “You know how last year I just stayed with Mum while you were still in London?”
“Yes.”
“It was sort of…annoying because I had to get up even earlier for school, and Mum is extra busy because of Gram, and I’d feel bad making her drive me for two weeks.”
“What exactly are you asking me? You can’t take two weeks off from school to stay in London, Andy…as much as I’d like you there.”
“No, I know that. Um…” He looks up at you for a moment and then back to Harry. “What if I stayed here with Y/N?”
“Andy…” Harry looks at you awkwardly. This should really be a private conversation, and Paige should really be involved. “Um, listen, your mum really enjoys having the extra time with you.”
“I know, but two whole weeks of all that back and forth?”
“If she’s fine with it, you could do like two long weekends with your mum, and I could stay here the rest of the time. It would sort of be like I was house sitting, Har.” You chime in.
“You’d do that?” Harry asks, almost shocked.
“Yeah.” You shrug. “If…Paige says it’s okay.”
“I’ll call her tomorrow to see how she feels about it. A couple of long weekends could be a good compromise.” He sips his own drink. “You’d really be okay with pick up and drop off?”
“It’s not like it would be out of the way, the school’s down the road.”
“I hope Mum says yes, I hated getting up early last time, and she doesn’t wake me up like you do.” Andy says to Harry.
“How does Dad wake you up?” You were very intrigued.
“I just go into his room and nudge him awake. Most mornings I have to rip the blanket away.” Harry chuckles. “How does Mum do it?”
“She yells down the hall that’s it time to get up and if I don’t she comes in and tickles me.”
“Hm, maybe I should try that.” Harry ponders.
“No!”
You and Harry laugh at Andy. You couldn’t believe he felt so comfortable with you that he wanted to be able to just stay at the house with you while Harry was gone. It meant a lot to you. You knew Harry couldn’t cut his trip short. The journal that publishes his works is in London, and he had a big meeting about his latest manuscript scheduled.
“So…you’d really stay here with Andy while I’m gone?” Harry asks you as you both get ready for bed.
“Yeah, as long as you feel comfortable with it.”
“I do.” He nods. “It means a lot to me that you’re always so willing to jump in and help.”
“Harry…” You slide into bed next to him. “You know...I care a lot about Andy. I love you, and he’s your son, and well…I love him too, simple as that.”
“This was the perfect day.” He beams at you.
“Yeah, it was.”
//
“He…he wants to do what?!” Paige was frantically running around her home while on the phone with Harry.
“I couldn’t believe it when he brought it up, but it does make sense…” Harry was putting some fresh polish on his nails while in his office. “He’d still be with you for a good chunk of time.”
“True…and it would save me from having to make all those extra trips.” She bites at one of her nails.
“Paige, please, that’s a nasty habit.” Her mother grimaces as she makes herself a cup of coffee.
“So…things are going well with your mother.” Harry says facetiously.
“Oh yeah, it’s all peaches and cream over here.” She rolls her eyes and goes down the hall to the office for some privacy. “Okay, so he’ll do two Friday to Mondays with me, and then spend the rest of the time with Y/N?”
“That’s the plan he’s hoping for, I believe. Are you okay with that?”
“Are you?”
“Yeah, I trust her with him. She’s been spending the night more with us, everyone seems comfortable.”
“Okay, well, if you trust her then so do I. Oh! She and I could finally have a little lunch date or something. You’ll need to give me her number so I can coordinate pick up and drop off.”
“I will, and yeah I think it’ll be the perfect excuse to get to know each other better.”
“Perfect, so I’m still set to get him at the airport on the first, yeah?”
“Yup, all that’s staying the same.” He pauses for a moment. “Are you doing okay? Is there anything you need?”
“I’m…better. Noah’s been a great distraction for my mom when I need a break. Allie and her hubby will be here for Christmas like always so that’ll be good, and she’s just about sold my mom’s condo, the paperwork’s almost done.”
“That’s great.”
“Thank you for asking though, I appreciate it.”
“No problem, just wanted to make sure.”

Harry and Andy were taking the Concord Coach bus to the airport, but you offered to drive them down to Logan since you’d be staying at your brother’s for the week. Andy thought you were a cool driver, way better than his dad and he let you know it right away. You drive them to the gate and get out to say goodbye.
“Safe travels.” You smile and give Andy a hug.
“Thanks again for driving us.” Harry says.
“Of course, I was headed here anyways.”
“Right.”
“Jesus, just kiss already, I’ll turn around.” Andy rolls his eyes and fiddles with his new friendship bracelet, making sure it was intact. Yes, Brandon and Andy made friendship bracelets for each other for Christmas, and Andy got the butterflies.
Harry glares at him for a moment, but you bring his attention to yourself.
“I love you, have fun.” You say to him as you wrap your arms around his neck.
“I love you too, I’ll let you know when we get there.” He puts his hands on your hips and kisses you. You didn’t want him to let you go, but you knew he had to.
“Dad, the police are gonna yell at us, come on!”
“Okay!” Harry whips his head to look at Andy. “He and Paige both have your number, so that should be all set. If you need anything from me, don’t hesitate to call, I don’t care what time it is.”
“It’ll all be fine, Harry.” You smile and lean up to kiss him again. “Go on.”
He nods and takes Andy’s hand to go into the airport. You get back in your car and drive off. You’d miss Harry like crazy, but you were excited to spend some time with your family and spend New Year’s with your friends like always. Consistency put you at ease. You were also looking forward to getting some work done without any major distractions. When you get to your brother’s place, the wine comes out immediately.
“Okay, so this is like…the are you a good mom test.” Julian says. “I mean, you’ll be alone with his kid for two weeks.”
“It’s not a full two weeks…and I’ve been home alone with Andy before.”
“Yeah, but you’re gonna be responsible for keeping him alive for longer than just a few hours.” Phil says. “Man, look at that necklace, it’s so beautiful.”
“Thanks.” You blush. “It was so sweet of him. Taking care of Andy is gonna be a piece of cake, he’s like my little buddy now. I’m more nervous for the one on one I’m going to have his mother.” You grimace. “We’re gonna have brunch or something.”
“She just wants to get to know you better, Y/N. Is that so bad?” Phil asks.
“No! It’s not bad at all, and I know I’m lucky that Harry’s ex isn’t some crazy bitch, she’s really nice, it’s just awkward. I’m fucking the guy she used to fuck…I’m in love with the guy that used to be in love with her.” You take a sip of your drink. “I know why she wants to meet…things are serious between Harry and I, and she probably just wants to make sure a psycho isn’t around her son.” You laugh.
“Speaking of seriousness with Harry…” Julian says. “You’ve been together, like, six months now right?”
“Mhm.” You smile and bite your bottom lip. “It’s going really well.”
“Have you two talked about where you see it going, though?” Phil asks. “I know it’s an awkward conversation to have, but I certainly would like to know what his intentions with you are.”
“I see it lasting, and I think he does too…”
“But have you talked about?” Julian asks.
“No, it’s sort of too soon, don’t you think?”
“No.” They say at the same time.
“Not when he’s almost thirty-three and you’re twenty-seven, Y/N. You’re not exactly kids.” Phil says. “I don’t want him wasting your time.”
“He’s not! We just haven’t talked about all that, I’m sure we will. We exchanged keys, that was a big deal. I’m sure we’ll have the conversation soon, maybe when he gets back.” You shrug. “The department’s getting together to take him out for his birthday, I made reservations at our favorite Thai place and everything.”
“That’ll be fun.” Phil says. “Do that, and then ask what the fuck is up.”
“Maybe not in those words exactly.” Julian chuckles. “But…you should know where you two stand.”
“I bet you we’ll talk about it once he gets a full report from Andy.” You smirk. “He’s bound to rave about me, or at least I hope he will. Harry hasn’t had a relationship in a long time, especially not one where his son has liked his girlfriend so much. I’ve also told him I don’t plan to go anywhere after I get my PhD…so we’ve had little snippets. You two worry about me too much. If I thought Harry was some fuck boy I wouldn’t be with him.”
“We’re just looking out for you, that’s all.” Phil says in defense. “We like Harry a lot, he was great to hang out with. I think you’ve found someone great, and I’m not trying to rush you into something, but I can’t help but worry about you, I’m sorry.”
“It’s okay, I understand.” You smile at them.
Later that night as you get into bed, you think over what your brother and Julian said. You did need to have a conversation with Harry. You loved him so much, but you needed to make sure you both wanted the same things.
Harry: landed, exhausted, but we’re here. You’re either in bed or out having drinks, but either way, I love you and sweet dreams
Your eyes light up when you see the message from your man.
You: had drinks, and now I’m in bed lol glad you got there safely, get some sleep baby, I love you too
