#i'm well aware having NPD does not make someone a bad person
Eden part nineteen
TW: trauma, bad mental health, Stockholm Syndrome, referenced captivity, referenced stalking, referenced major character death, pet whumpee, multiple caretakers
Note: This is the last of the "Ezra explaining what happened to him" chapters, because I believe in the rule of threes. His online friends get a much more vulnerable view into his mind than his roommates.
While rifling through his old things, trying to regain some semblance of himself, Ezra found his smartphone. It seemed insane that Christopher had returned it here while his roommates weren't home, but it would have been easy after getting Ezra's keys during the kidnapping. He had even bothered to plug it in.
The number of texts Ezra had received while missing was overwhelming, despite being solidily in the double digits. He ignored most of them in favor of messaging the only friends he actually trusted with any of this.
He dropped a text in the group chat. Just a simple "Hey bitches, I lived." He didn't have to wait long until his friends all messaged him back, despite their very separate time zones.
Isadora: 'sup biatch? missed u
Tristian: Oh my God! Are you okay?!
Rowan: oh hey ezra
Ezra: Don't worry. Don't worry. I just got kidnapped. Didn't have my phone for obvious reasons. I'm once again here to grace you with my presence.
Rowan: glad to see youre feeling okay
Tristan: YOU GOT KIDNAPPED
Ezra: I am physically unharmed and mentally destroyed. Thanks for checking in.
Isadora: moood
Tristan: What the hell happened? Tell me everything right this instant.
Ezra: Long message incoming-
Ezra took a moment to sort out exactly what he was going to say, typing and retyping the same message over and over again. He could always get his feelings across much better in text than in person. So much time to rehearse and fact check.
Ezra: I got kidnapped by a man named Christopher. He was in his fifties and lived in the woods. Then I got the usual stalker monolog about how much he loved me and wanted to keep me for himself. (Despite how stressed out I was, this made my NPD very happy) I settled down with him. It was genuinely such a blast. I was basically his pet cat. Don't worry, he wasn't weird or anything. It was totally platonic and you know that made my narcissistic aroace ass very happy. Well, I did think that I had fallen in love with him at one point. But he cleared that up pretty quick. (Clearing it up involved gaslighting but whatever) And I realized that it was just NPD fuelled platonic obsession making me jealous of his fiance. With me so far? - 👀²
Ezra was very aware that he had mentioned NPD three times in this text. But it was imperative that his friends understood this was the fault of his personality disorder, and not some flaw he could be judged for.
Rowan: when you said kidnapped i thought you meant held for ransom not… all that - 👆²
Isadora: im kinda jealous of u lolll
Tristian: Don't say stuff like that, Dora. This isn't funny.
Ezra: …it is kinda funny. How many times have I joked about wanting someone to care enough to stalk me, and it happened. Knock on enough doors asking to see the devil and he might answer and all that
Isadora: i was gonna say that lmao
Rowan: hey ezra, do you need anything? you okay?
Ezra: I just need to talk. Shelly and Harry were supremely unhelpful. Buckle up bitches, because it's only getting worse from here. - 🫂²
Tristan: IT GETS WORSE THAN STALKING AND KIDNAPPING
Ezra: You know it, my good dude.
Tristan: HOW COULD IT POSSIBLY GET WORSE
Tristan: EZRA I WORRY ABOUT YOU - 🤝³
Ezra: Haha me too
Ezra: Anyhow
Ezra: Christopher was engaged to this man named Colt, right? They didn't live together though. Colt was the most obnoxious asshole I've ever met. I don't think toxic masculinity does it justice. Christopher was literally the greatest person ever and he deserved much better than Colt. He was also keeping someone captive to torture them. They couldn't remember their own name so I started calling them Jay. They were in really bad shape, obviously. I tried taking care of them but obviously I couldn't do much. They're what really mentally destroyed me, not anything to do with how I was being treated. - 🫂³
Isadora: hoollyyy fuuckk
Tristian: This is absolutely insane. I'm so sorry you went through that. It sounds like the plot of a horror story, not something you should have to deal with in real life. If there is anything I can do to help, please tell me.
Ezra felt warmth spread from his heart to the rest of his body. Finally, someone had told him exactly what he had been fishing to hear. And he had hardly needed to manipulate them into it.
It wasn't his fault. He didn't deserve it. Colt was the one to blame for Jay's death, not him. His life had always been a bad horror story, and it did wonders to hear it confirmed by an outside observer.
Ezra: You guys are so nice. - 💚¹ 🖤¹ 💖¹
Isadora: well duh i love u
Rowan: we all love you
Tristan: That's right. And don't forget it.
Tristian: Now, are you going to call the police or is it too risky?
Ezra: Fun fact. Jay and Colt are dead. And obviously Christopher is wonderful so I don't want him thrown in jail. I'm hoping he takes me back but I accidentally ran away when I was freaked out about Jay's death, so he might be mad at me.
Isadora: :(((
Tristan: I know you're dealing with a lot. But you need to move on. You were kidnapped. You need to try to be your own person again.
Ezra: But have you considered that. I. Don't. Want. To.
Isadora: fair
Tristian: No. Not "fair". Ezra, you can't spend the rest of your life as the victim.
Ezra: I've spent the last twenty-three years doing just that. Self victimization is an art form that I have perfected to a science.
Rowan: this isnt self victimization. some body else victimized you.
Ezra: hmmmmmm
Ezra: Less work for me then!!
Isadora: agahshsjsjdgaafdsgxbzfafs
Tristan: This is not funny.
Tristan: I believe in you, Ezra. Please believe in yourself. You can have a good life if you just try. You don't need the validation of your stalker. What you do need is time to yourself to recover from the impact Jay's death had on you.
Rowan: seconded
Isadora: dont leave us again dude
Isadora: we missed u
Ezra: It's my choice and my life. I was happier with Christopher than I've ever been with anyone else. Now that Colt and Jay are dead, there's nothing in the way of us being happy again.
Tristan: Ezra, listen.
Ezra: No. You're going to listen to me.
Ezra: You guys just don't get it. I want someone to want me. More than anything. Fucking hell, I've never even met any of you irl, and you're my best friends. I don't really have anyone. Of course I'm willing to excuse kidnapping and shit. I got everything I ever wanted in life, and I didn't have to work for it. I was fucking loved.
Rowan: im sorry
Tristan: Thank you for saying that. It's really important to get your feelings out. But I think that if you really want to be around this Christopher, you need to be on equal footing. Meet up in public. Don't go home with him until you have a chance to know who he is when he doesn't have control over your life.
Ezra threw his phone at the wall. Why was Tristan being so damn condescending? Would it hurt him to be nice?
Well, okay, Tristan hadn't actually been condescending. But someone other than Ezra being right when he was wrong always felt condescending, regardless of actual intentions.
Tristan's plan sounded good though. Ezra might have to try it. He quite wanted to get coffee with Christopher. If only he could find him.

not trauma culture, i just wanted to ask and make sure if you support the idea of "narc/npd abuse" ?
i absolutely don't. i'm sure there are many resources people can access explaining why demonizing an entire group of people based on what disorder(s) they have is bad, so i'll keep this brief, but what it essentially does is harms innocent people and removes the agency of abusers.
people who abuse others chose to do so. even if they're not aware of their abuse, they chose to take abusive actions. saying that someone is abusing people because they have a disorder takes that accountability away from their actions because they "can't stop themself". the same goes for any other mental illness- people with bpd, depression, adhd, etc aren't predispositioned to be abusive or toxic, so why would people with npd?
on the flip side, someone who's doing their best to manage their npd symptoms and is very cautious and aware of how they might hurt people will still get attacked just for having a stigmatized disorder. (even if they aren't managing their symptoms well, or they have hurt people in the past, they don't deserve to be harassed for having a disorder. people don't deserve to be harassed in the first place.)
i feel like personality disorders are probably some of the most affected by stigmatization and casual ableism. every mental illness has horrible stereotypes and gets discriminated against, obviously (this isn't a competition, everyone loses) but i've never seen more vile insults than those directed towards people with npd or aspd.
just call it emotional abuse.

This is a video by a psychologist and expert on personality disorders in which he selects symptoms from various personality disorders and explains how they could be expressed to construct a hypothetical "toxic personality."
He said something about empathy in the context of NPD and ASPD which I found interesting.
From 12:22 - 13:13 (emphasis mine)
"So, when we see a lack of empathy, this really leads to many other problems. It prevents people from understanding the impact they have on other people, so it makes them feel justified when they're doing things that are wrong.
At some level we really have to be able to empathize with other people in order to treat them appropriately, and in order to treat them in a way that's conducive to a positive and productive relationship.
Now, that doesn't necessarily mean that one has to have affective empathy; one could have cognitive empathy as well. So, affective empathy is feeling the same way someone else feels, cognitive empathy is understanding how somebody else feels.
But what we see here with a lack of empathy, of course we're talking about a lack of affective empathy. The cognitive empathy could still be in place, but typically with [ASPD and NPD] the cognitive empathy isn't used effectively, so the net effect is a lack of affective and cognitive empathy."
I'm pretty fond of this, because it concisely explains
1. The function empathy performs (it's not good or bad, but it helps you to understand the impact your behavior has on others)
2. That affective empathy is not necessary to treat others well because of the separate construct of cognitive empathy
3. A major reason why NPD and ASPD can lend themselves to toxic behavior (we still have cognitive empathy, but typically don't use it effectively)
In neurotypical people, cognitive and affective empathy work together to motivate pro-social behavior. Cognitive empathy allows a person to understand the internal states of others, and affective empathy simulates these states to make them more directly relatable. Affective empathy deepens understanding and valuation of the knowledge imparted by cognitive empathy.
In narcissistic and antisocial personality disorders, lack of affective empathy is not toxic on its own; it becomes toxic when cognitive empathy is not effectively exercised to understand others and make decisions based on this understanding, to sufficient degree this becomes characteristic of a person's behavior.
We are less motivated to effectively use cognitive empathy and have more difficulty personally valuing the internal states of others when we do understand them, because the automatic simulation of experience does not happen for us: we do not automatically feel joy when you feel joy or pain when you feel pain. In order to "care" about the experiences of others, we have to create or strengthen our own valuation of them by finding another way to make them important to us. This is doable and many of us become good at it, but it's very alien to the experience of people who rely on affective empathy to create that valuation automatically.
But a similar problem can occur for people who do feel affective empathy: if you feel affective empathy but do not exercise your cognitive empathy effectively, you run a great risk of harming others with your behavior, intentionally or not. Conscientiousness in the form of deliberation still remains crucial: you must take care to understand the internal states of others to the best of your ability and to value them appropriately, and make your decisions based on this understanding. Sometimes the best decisions may run counter to what you are motivated to do based on affective empathy: For instance, you may feel for the needs of someone whose request it would nevertheless be best to decline.
When cognitive empathy is not enhanced by affective empathy, understanding of others can be valued elsewise. When affective empathy does not have cognitive empathy to inform it, the capacity to experience it doesn't do much for the quality of your behavior.
Present-state cognitive empathy is not necessarily veey useful, either. Cognitive empathy is a skill that can be practiced and developed, and must be in order to understand the nuance of other's possible and extant emotions and their basic and situational importance. If you do not actively practice cognitive empathy and use it to inform your decisions, your understanding is probably notably limited and you are probably not very ethical in your behavior.
(This doesn't mean a lack of cognitive empathy means someone must be toxic. Cognitive empathy is a skill that can be learned even in most situations when it is initially very impaired. For instance, cognitive empathy is commonly impaired (or perhaps more accurately, operates differently) in autism, but autistic people frequently become very skilled with it because we practice. If someone has very impaired cognitive empathy and a limited or nonexistent capacity to learn it, the people around them are probably aware and some behavior may be hurtful or require different inferences to understand, but it is not the person's fault.)
-------
Other highlights which I may post about later include: personality disorders ate not primarily thought of (by clinicians and researchers) in terms of toxicity, rigidity and dogmatism vs flexible thinking, grudge-holding; that it's okay and often normal to feel anger, but that in close interpersonal relationships, a behavioral pattern characterized by aggression/acting in anger is typically toxic (which I would guess excludes situationally appropriate reactions to aggression from others, even where de-escalation might be more productive).

Alastor’s Possible Backstory, Emotional, And Mental State.
Okay, so, I find Alastor from Hazbin Hotel one of the few characters that interest me due to his sheer mysterious aura. He has a lot of secrets and I’d like to dissect this man down to his mannerisms, his beliefs, his (low-key/high-key?) pessimistic view of life, and his use of voodoo. I personally am not a fan of the said show since it’s pretty vulgar and hasn’t caught my attention due to the possible problems I see in the show (Why the heck did the God in this universe allow a hierarchy to take place AND give people superpowers by turning them into magical animals and such? Why did he even make a Hell?)
But anyway, I’m not here to discuss my likes and dislikes about the show, I'm here to discuss the Radio Demon and what could have possibly happened in his life as a child to start this craziness and explain his complex personality, mental state, and emotional state. Alrighty with that being said, LET’S DISSECT!
MENTA L~𝓔𝓜𝓞𝓣𝓘𝓞𝓝𝓐𝓛 ~BEGINNING
Dude’s got a mental problem fam, and I'm not saying this just cause this man’s teeth are as yellow as Bill Cipher’s entire existence. No, no, no this man is crazy for not just his unhinged need to see other’s fail and to have utter and complete control(Will tackle later) he’s crazy for his huge narcissistic behavior. Dude, Honestly thinks he’s better than everyone and ONLY allows those he thinks are worthy into his “friend” circle. I quote friend because I’m not too sure how exactly and deeply he feels about Rosie aside from their relationship being like Jack and Mary from Mary Poppins Returns, as stated by Vivzie on twitter. He finds those who don’t always smile as people who are WEAK and LAUGHABLE and regardless of how they are, he still finds them to be weak, which BY GOD is such a flawed way of thinking GEEZ. Now after reading about Alastor and becoming more intrigued, I decided to do research on his behavior and when and how it starts.
𝐍𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐦 has 9 defining traits. I’ll go over a few that I’ve noticed.
1. He really thinks he’s more important than anyone else and has shown this through his mannerisms, the way he speaks, his vibe and just his general character scream “I’m better than you!”
2. HE LOVES SHOWING OFF! Dude can’t seem to get enough of the spotlight, thus why he LOVES to broadcast his carnage on the radio! Why else would he do so!? He finds constant admiration and respect when he does his “little” display of power!
3. Now, we ALL know he has done some pretty...gruesome things to claim strength and be seen as the strongest, even when there are others who are stronger he displays himself as if he is more dominating and wouldn’t waste his time with, how you say, vermin. This is evident by his response to Vox
Tumblr media
You can find where I found this here at Faustisse’s cleanup and Inking vid of the upcoming Alastor Comic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_15UYpcWJ_Q
In case it is too hard to read due to the bad quality, Alastor is saying “Show off all that and no cattle.” which is pretty much  “all hat, no cattle” (or, alternately, “big hat, no cattle”) which refers to someone who is all talk with no action, power, or substance behind his/her words. I’d applaud this power move, and still kinda do, if it weren’t for this dudes BIG HEAD lol.
BUT, you get the point, the dude is an egomaniac! “We already knew this, I mean DUH!” you say to me pinching the bridge of your nose. “Why do you point out the obvious?!”
Well, notice how severe and prevalent these traits are. Don’t you find it odd how this dude has SEVERE megalomania? Well, I did research and found out that Narcissism has a very sad connection most of the time and affects males more than females.
at https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/causes-of-npd here’s what I found
Tumblr media
Notice the parental factors during early childhood are all abuse-related. This could very well be one, if not the main reason, why Al is the way he is: He was abused as a child! And to make matters worse, as I was looking deeper into this, I noticed that sexual abuse is ANOTHER factor, which would explain why Alastor doesn’t like being touched without consent or by surprise but will GLADLY invade other’s personal space to feel in control (He's a hypocrite like that). Sexual assault victims ALSO don’t like being touched without consent so this just adds more proof to my claim! And serial killers tend to have a rough family life and have been molested, taken advantage of, neglected, or all of the above!
It’s also come to my attention that Alastor enjoys talking with women more than men for 2 reasons. 1) Alastor finds it easier and more enjoyable to talk with women. 2) He finds men to be dumb brutes at least in hell.
I give COMPLETE CREDIT to @dollymoon
Thank you for the awesome amount of facts you’ve provided! RESPECT! https://www.tumblr/dollymoon
Tumblr media
Alastor most likely has a very harsh grudge against the world due to his treatment as a young child. His abuse, and possible loss of his mother growing up, lead to him finding joy in seeing those suffer and fail EVERY SINGLE TIME! Notice the way he talks creepily to Charlie about watching sinners “Repeatedly trip and tumble down to the fiery pits of F A I L U R E.” Look at this man’s face as he’s saying this! The man looks turned on with the VERY fact of people suffering, that’s his kink, y’all, he a damn sadist! (No, being asexual doesn’t mean you can’t have kinks, I’ve checked, lol. Got you fam.) Ima kink shame the hell out of this man (Pun-unintended)
Tumblr media
Ahem, anyway, this dude has got a hate boner for the world and finds relief when exacting pain on others because he feels wronged and feels the world is to blame. He does seem to acknowledge and accept that where he’s at is the end of the road for those who want to change, their chance was when they were alive, and has accepted that this is the natural order of things and they can’t fix that. I had this vibe that he must have gone to church as a kid due to his mom being religious and he loved his mom so he obeyed, Has been stated by Faustisse that he’s a mama’s boy, BUT remember, Vivzie said anything that comes out of HER mouth is what’s canon. Unless she has already stated it as fact any other info can’t be trusted. (Even though this info is PAINSTAKINGLY clear just by him mentioning his mother’s cooking and it just makes too much sense, lol.)
So he must have grown up to be low-key violent but with manners like he practiced being slick and suave in order to trick people into trusting him so that he may kill them without getting caught, which would work perfectly with him not chasing people due to his moral code. He practiced and practiced and seeing as how he was well-off in his later years, I’d assume he started doing his radio schtick when he was in his early 20s or at the age of 18. So he began when the roaring 20s was just starting, a new beginning for him!
Alastor's name means "he who does not forget", "avenger", "persecutor", "tormenter", "one who suffers from divine vengeance".
(This also makes me think his real name is Alexander/Alexandre since it's the exact opposite of his Hell-Name and more interestingly, in terms of name-giving traditions, between the latter half of the Spanish period (1790-1803) and the beginning of Jim Crow Segregation (1893-1964), gallicized names of classical Greek and Roman origins dominated in Loiusiana. This may be due, in whole, or in part, to the fact that New Orleans had North America’s (excluding Central America and the Caribbean) first Opera Houses and Theatres, owned, frequented and operated by Creoles from Louisiana, Cuba and Saint-Domingue/Haiti. Adonis is my second choice since It literally means "handsome man" and that would totally fit him for his handsomeness to the fact I feel that his mom would def name him this outside of Alexander/Alexandre.) http://www.mylhcv.com/common-creole-names-for-males/
This is a HEAVY hint to what happened in his life and why he’s so drawn to seeing people fail and helps hold my theory together quite a bit, if not a lot. Of all the names to give this dude, he was given a name that legit is on par with the word “Vengeance” and “Avenger”. Vengeance for what? Avenge who? He was wronged. He possibly is angered also by the death of his mother, who was most likely his ONLY ray of light. He is a broken man who most likely has insecurities, based on the info of narcissism which tells us that narcissistic people are the most insecure sorts of people. Alastor is aware of this and sees it as a weakness, something to be culled and hidden from the world never seeing the light of day. His only way of making himself feel stronger and more in control was through voodoo and cannibalism. Many Cannibals believe to be the bees-knees since they go a step FURTHER into crime by devouring their victims and placing themselves into a rank different and more feared by the rest. They see that no one else would even have the balls to attempt to reach that spot, which again leads back to the way Alastor thinks. He just adds oil to the fire when doing voodoo and doing BLOOD RITUALS which you can see him doing when attacking Sir Pentious!  https://twitter.com/hntrgurl13/status/1197918059836690433?s=20
Dude has so much baggage that he hides behind a smile he thinks ALONE brings strength like niBBa are you serious? I’d like to see this man try and say that to the faces of strong people like Superman, Goku, Midoriya, Naruto, Broly, Wonder Woman, GOD. Yo even GOD shows emotions. Wanna know why these beings are strong? It ain’t just cause they smile, Nah, it’s cause they’re determined or the very literal embodiment of determination. they have a damn balance and that strength helps them smile through the pain, they don’t need to exhibit a smile to be strong cause them being themselves and having the strong mentality is what gives them strength, not a damn smile. Watch Charlie hit him with the good old reality check when the man attempts to freaking take over her joint (Both hotel and hell) and she proves strength ain’t just gained through smiling or dominating others. He high-key sounds weak for even having that mindset, only weaklings think like this. He has a very weak view of life which brought forth a monster, or should I say DEMON.
Here’s the info of him not liking being touched.
Tumblr media
I’d also like you guys to keep in mind that Vivzie has stated that none of the characters have split personalities, proving Al knows EXACTLY what he's doing.
Tumblr media
It’s all them but some have a DUALITY to them. As hinted at by the word "dual" within it, duality refers to having two parts, often(but not always) with opposite meanings, like the duality of good and evil. If there are two sides to a coin, metaphorically speaking, there's a duality. Notice how Alastor also has a duality in him. What kind tho? Remember those shadows that follow him everywhere? Yeah I'm pretty sure those shadows represents his duality in some way, shape, or form.
I also forgot to add that Masochism and Sadism both ALSO stem from the same things Narcissism does or similar things like being sexually abused as a kid. Remember not all cases are the same, I just wanted to put that out there (Not sure If Al is still a Masochist since that’s old info from him being just a deer and liked it when people tried to kill him.)
So in conclusion:
-Dude was possibly abused as a child by his Father
-he hates society/the world due to his terrible child life
-He possibly feels shame for what he has done and thus has accepted his fate
-He loves his mama and MOST LIKELY hates his father who probs is the one who did him a terrible service for just being his father growing up, this would explain his view on men as well
-He also feels shame for being so weak to even allow his father or any male figure to do what they did to him
-Man gets turned on when seeing people like sinners suffer.
KEEP. IN. MIND. None of this excuses his terrible behavior and excuses for being so power-hungry, He’s an interesting character and I love his quirks but he is by no means a victim without faults. He is a product of society and that’s sad but he needs to pay for his horrible actions. Cannibalism is going to far, using you and your victim’s blood for voodoo isn’t excusable, and just killing someone for the sake of vengeance won’t make the pain go away, so nothing he does that involves harming people is cute or a way to suppress his anger, which he’ll have to learn the hard way in this story, I bet. Hopefully, it’s done well cause he’s still very much a bad guy regardless of the fact that he is aiding charlie.
WHEW, that was a long post, one of my longest ones! I really wanted to write out my thoughts on this character cause I’m ALWAYS intrigued by the mystery characters like him withhold. They tend to have hints to their behavior and it was really fun traveling through the possibilities of his nature. I’m probably 100% wrong about all of what I said since I am still not sure about everything and I researched as much as I could. I wouldn’t have had such an easy time if it wasn’t for @dollymoon and their amazing efforts to inform the community, y’all crazy but y’all dedicated so respect. I am not part of the community so I wouldn’t have been able to pinpoint all the info and more. So this is my piece on Alastor the Radio Demon, a.k.a dude who looks like he’s taken ecstasy.
P.S
-Why is this man wearing a torn up and ragged jacket when he can easily make himself a better freaking jacket? The man wore a one that was fresh as hell during his reprise, so what gives?! and why in God’s name is his damn teeth yellow? How you gonna say “You're never fully dressed without a smile” but got on one of the dirtiest smiles I’ve ever freaking seen? I'd rather not smile and be strong than to wear my clothes at its dirtiest(his smile I mean). Ain’t no way in the fresh hell would I invite an edgy radioman, who I know does voodoo, into my damn house, I am too black/Haitian for that bull.
-Y’all finna tell me why y’all falling for a man who canonically has stank breathe...?
Tumblr media
At least clean his damn teeth and give him a mint first, D A M N people!
again, thank you very much @dollymoon
but yeah, that’s my theory y’all, hope you enjoy and sorry for the constant repetition in here! DISSECTION OVER. . .
