#i've been doing a lot of redraws but it's just wild to see the difference

hi i love your frame study post with luffy and zoro I was wondering can you tell me about it more it seems like alot of fun and i want to try it, like when you trace the frame is it just the silhouette sorry im not very good at drawing and this seems like a fun way to figure out dynamic poses

it is a fun a way to figure out dynamic poses!! that's why i started doing it, it's also to study animation and an easy way to warm up

the first real step is looking at a scene frame by frame on youtube with , and ; to see what's going on exactly then taking a bunch of screenshots. here i just wanted to see what was going on, there was a lot of impact frames in ep1100, lots of cool fighting choreography so i stared a lot, hadn't originally planned on redrawing anything but i was obsessed with these few frames of luffy turning.

i try to trace as loosely as i can, i change the design/body type to fit the one i draw the character with and try to guess what the parts out of frames could look like, sometime it's also fun to make an inbetween that isn't there! i try to see how "can i make it more?", like how much can i push an expression or what if i make the hair more gooey looking (because gear 5's hair is very gooey)? or wilder looking as if there was a lot more wind/movements happening (for the clothes as well)? here luffy's missing his head in the first frame because i changed it so much there was no need to bother redrawing it again, i used it directly for the lineart. beside the body i try to trace the shadows too, sometimes the effects but i don't keep them in past the tracing stage since it's not what im trying to study.

the goal isn't to draw something good but to understand why the original worked and picked your attention.

after the tracing is done you can't look at the og frame again and work from what's been traced only, this way it inevitably ends up looking different, like the shadow changing places on top of adding details for the fun of it. there's no need to redraw the same line over and over until it looks perfect, it's meant to be quick and loose. mess around, see what works and doesn't and why.

the zoro vs kamazo fight is one of my favorite because the animation really goes wild, i didn't bother with redrawing the lineart and pretty much only messed around with stronger shadows because the main goal was to redraw the dramatic angles to see how it works. it would've a been a lot better/actual study if i had redrawn the body entirely afterwards to really understand the perspective and all.

it's what i did with that 3 seconds walk, tbh one of the reason im obsessed with the song so much, i love that animation and wanted to figure out why it worked so well (i don't think the way i've reanimated it with law works the same at all but still a ton of fun to do).

Personal question: would you be comfortable sharing some old art vs new art comparison over the years of you drawing? It's very inspiring to see how much people have improved and how far they've come.

Sure! If anyone ever wondered how much I worked on my main sona.. Here's realllyyy old art of him. The first drawing if I recall- made during my 2018-2019 big depresso after I hadn't drawn for almost a year if you count in between months.

This art is considerably worse than drawings I made before late 2018, but I went through a lot so you could say I experienced pretty bad muscle memory loss. It was part of my recovery and learning to care for myself. I didn't draw much during late 2018 and early 2019

As you probably can tell his design changed a lot. I used to draw hair really weird and wild, too. I've gotten used to making art with 3D aid.

This is art of my OC Asriel in 2019, I was really struggling a lot with finding my style again. This may be before I started leaning more on 3D, all though I can't tell. This might be drawn with Terawell Design Doll 3D pose as a thumbnail. (note; I pose stuff myself or adjust pre-made poses.) As you can see, 3D doesn't make your art look better, you need to actually understand anatomy somewhat to make it work.

This is my most recent drawing of Asriel. (All though this is technicly Asriel as ''PENDRA'' My coloring style has changed a lot, but I do have a lot of variety when it comes to rendering techniques.

I drew mostly traditional during my depression, which also were my more finished artworks at the time. (I'm not going in depth on my depression itself.)

Last time I drew Tsuki was in 2022, but you can see there's a massive difference in style, and how I draw hair.

I don't really use the above rendering anymore because it became exhausting though.

(I just realized all examples I've given are blonde OCs lol.)

Anyway I hope this helps people who feel like their stuff hasn't changed much. Changes can be gradual, like 2020 looks similar to 2019, but the facial structure has changed while the rendering hasn't changed much. Then around 2021-2022 my style started to really form specific noticeable traits that I still really like today.

I'm really happy with my style atm. I like how I draw faces. I could still do better on expressions though- Most of my characters aren't super expressive due their personalities. As for rendering, thats often subject to change. I like a mix of soft shade with cell-shading feels. But comic-y Style.

Wrath: Friday January 20th 2023

Was in the middle of working on a mini animation and our last nib broke and we move in a little over a week now provided the weather is good. Kind of late to order more so now we won't be able to draw for two weeks unless we desperately pull out our old tablet and learn to redraw on that thing.

I'm sobbing dying inside because we finally got off block and got our creativity back after nearly an entire year it feels like. Like we really got back into it.

I never really realized how much of a coping mechanism art was until we fell out of after healing from a lot of our trauma and now are dividing back into it since we're we're staying in the town that legitimately gave us all our worst traumas. And then of course the creativity came back.

Does make me wonder if we ever get comfortable enough if we'll ever even somewhat give drawing up. I say somewhat because we do want to try architecture but at the same time I have a feeling there a couple people down south that may very well resurface a lot of trauma for us. Which, while we don't exactly want and definitely try to avoid, it's good for our art.

So maybe our trauma isn't all bad.

But I've also come to this realization that a lot of artists really hate their art and their art style. Which is odd to us because we've been in that same boat but not to such severity. If we make a mistake we hate specifically that mistake but let it be to learn from it in the future. I think the early gentle parenting growing up that our dad gave us before foster care shattered us helped shape our confidence early on. So we don't struggle quite as much. We rarely compare our art to others and when we do it's more of an obsession over their art that we try to even semi copy that art style or implement it into our own.

Perhaps the worst hate we put on our art is when something just isn't working perspective wise or the lineart isn't working. I suppose we have worked to be perfect but perfect to us. Which was almost always good enough.

The way the whole class would stand over our shoulder in amazement and watch us draw gave us a confidence too. It made us feel good and adored. Considering we didn't get a ton of attention growing up.

It became less and less impressive to people as we got older but there are still some people that absolutely go wild for our art. We've finally found a comfortable community that loves it! The furry community has been very kind to our art.

I think our problem for so long was trying to draw furry art in front of people that decided dogs having head hair must mean that's a horse despite the different nose and sharp teeth. That was annoying. Completely different face shapes. We drew animals in front of people that preferred human art.

Which, while we still enjoy doing sometimes, we are still heavily learning and even come to learn more how much happier furry art brings us. So.. we'll stick with what we love most, what we're good at whether people like it or don't. And eventually we'll find our crowd.

I'm just glad we don't have a huge lack of confidence in our skill of art. We can look back at the oldest shit and wonder how people thought that was good. And it makes us realize that we have come a very very long way. We're proud of ourselves. Really.

Next we're going to attempt to work on more perspectives. Like this piece I'm so damn proud of. Our first drawing where we're really trying a different perspective.

No actually, that's the second one. Now that I think of it, this is our first. Unfortunately so many people want to call it inappropriate though and it never hit off. Like I'm sorry that people legit have asses? I'm sorry for drawing it right? She fell that's the whole point of this piece was just to get a literal difference in perspective. It's not like I'm exposing her or giving you a full on ass shot in the face. My god. And that was before a signature change as you can see

Anyway. We've come a very long way since then and I'm just happy with all of it. Satisfied that we can do so well.

I guess I do sometimes wish our art style wasn't so set as it is because there are definitely artists that have art styles we're jealous of. But to be fair, if we all had the same style... I think art would get pretty boring. So.. I'm glad I have a recognized art style of my own.

It does change depending on the headmate but not always. I'm not arguing with that. Hell most of our headmates can't draw at all! I'm glad to be one that can.

2022 art recap!

And here's the past years, ever since i started my digital art journey in 2020:

I love seeing these, they turn out so pretty! I especially love comparing them to the past year's

Notes on this year: I loved this year, so much that I wasn't able to fit everything I wanted with only 12 slots available (so I allowed myself five extras!). I feel like I've kinda reached a point where my art looks good and pretty and I'm satisfied with it. So now we're kinda reached what looks like a "plateau" but is actually a great opportunity to explore different things and diversify stuff! I've drawn a lot of front facing portraits this year, yeah, but that's what's makes me happy so is there anything wrong with it really?

Big things I've done this year: There's the whole Fairytaled AU, that went on for like 4 months, try to find the small Niki hidden in the image! That whole series about drawing ATLA characters but completely by myself this time and in a way I find comfortable. It was great! Lots of AMAZING collabs, lots of redraws of past artwork (eheh yes, you can do that with two years under your belt!), briefly got back into AOT and finally did some fanart for it, the expressions challenge (still open to suggestions btw! Just search "ask game" on my page). A lot of traditional sketches, expressions practice and just letting my imagination go wild. A lot of mcyt too, a bunch of OC stuff and a bit of a slowing down towards the end of the year. It's fine, I still love art, I'm just not as obsessed as I could have been!

Yet another redraw lol. I remembered that I still had this old picture of Rhulin that I drew in 2012 just sitting on my old blog waiting for me to remember its existence and so… here it is. He totally seems like a different character, it’s kinda weird to look back and see what he was like innitially, lol. I’m gonna talk about the changes under a read more because I like to write essays about my ocs and character design lmao

So one of the most major things I think is the change in color scheme, which was a conscious thing I decided to change one day because I realized that those colors were not so good lol. I put a comparison of the colors with the old pick, new colors up top and old on the bottom. His skin looks more like a natural skin color now, his hair is darker and more red which goes better with the rest of the colors, and his eyes are a little lighter and more saturated, so your eyes are drawn to them. I also changed his shirt to a lighter green and got rid of the weird brown jacket thing.

The change in hair style was just something that happened as I learned more about how hair like… works. It’s more simplified now which was probably a result of me trying to find a way to draw him consistently and it just flows more like actual hair instead of just being spiky for the sake of being spiky.

The vibe these designs give off is totally different too. The old design makes him look kinda sneaky I think? Something I did at some point to change that was making his eyebrows higher on his face and changing the shape from like.. long lines to shorter with a little thickness to them, he looks a lot nicer now lol

The story of how Nasir became Altair's little furry partner in crime.

It was a Friday morning around 6;30. People were driving or walking to work, as the birds chirped and the eagles soaring through the open air, somewhere in the crowds of people, there was a blade walking among them, that blade was... Altair lbn-La'Ahad.

Altair was wearing his modern outfit, which was a plain white jacket hoodie, a black T-shirt underneath, navy blue pants, a leather belt, and black brand shoes. He was walking towards Mike's cafe, as he did every Friday and Monday morning.

The cafe bell rang as he walked inside, there at the cash register was Michael, wearing an open jean-jacket with some different pins on it, a red t-shirt, tan pants, and a red beanie hat.

Michael: yo! Altair! How's my main man doing?

Altair: I am doing well Michael.

The two fist bump, Altair and mike high fives from top to bottom then ending the handshake ending with them gripping both their forearm and shaking them. They both then let go and continued talking.

Altair: how have things been with you and the cafe?

Michael: I've been doing good, the same goes for the cafe too. So what can I do for my favorite customers slash good friend, today?

Altair: the usual Friday and Monday breakfast, please.

Michael: the butter coated croissants with a warm brew latte.

Altair: that would be it yes.

Michael: all right, and how many croissants would you like?

Altair: the usual five, please.

Michael: alrighty then, that'll be $17.99, please.

Altair: *hands him a coupon and three dollars*

Michael: Awesome, I'll get your drink and latte in a few minutes.

Altair: -nods-

A few minutes later Michael handed Altair his Latte and a white paper bag with the five butter-covered croissants inside.

Michael: there you go, a latte and five butter coated croissants.

Altair: *grabs the Latte and paper bag with the croissants inside* shukraan lak, thank you, Michael.

Michael: no problem man, hey you, Desmond, and Ezio are still going boating with me next week, right?

Altair: I believe we still are, yes.

Michael: right on dude! Well, I'll see you later then! *waves goodbye*

Altair: *makes a small wave back*

Altair exits the building and begins walking two blocks over to a bench that was next to an alleyway. Altair takes a seat on the bench, as he took a sip of his Latte.

Altair: ... *looks around to see if anyone was watching him* ... *turns around to the alleyway* *click* *click* Goldie~ come here Goldie~

Just then a large black cat came slowly emerging from the alleyway. The cat was a midnight black cat that had ember gold eyes just like Altair's eyes. The cat meows happily back at Altair when suddenly a large bulldog came around the corner and growled at the black cat.

Dog: GRRR- BARK BARK!!

Goldie: HISSSSS! *scratches at the air and towards the dog*

Altair: HEY! GET AWAY FROM HER!!!

Altair quickly got up and got in between the dog and the cat.

Altair: I SAID GET AWAY FROM HER YOU STUPID DOG! LEAVE HER BE!!!

Dog: *snarls and growls* BARK! BARK!

Altair: *gets in the dog's face* GRRRR! HISSSSSS!

Dog: ... *whimpers* *leaves with his tail between his legs*

Altair: Tch, stupid dog never learns! *sigh*... you ok Goldie?

Goldie: Meow~ *rubs her head on Altair's leg* Purrr~

Altair: Heh, I take that as a yes.

The cat smiles at Altair as it jumps on a few boxes and onto his shoulder, as he walks back to the nearby bench. The cat leaped off his shoulder and onto the bench and sat next to him on the bench. Altair pulled two butter coated croissants out of the paper bag and gave one to the cat.

Altair: one for you.

Goldie: meow~ *starts eating the croissant*

Altair: and one for me *starts eating his croissant* *pets the cat with his left hand* did you miss me, girl?

Goldie: Purrr~

Altair: Heh, I missed you too.

A woman came walking up to Altair. The women had a short dirt blond hair cut, wore black high heels, long light grey pants, and a fancy grey, open, button, jacket, and a white shirt.

Women: oh, look who it is. Tch, well I guess it is pretty common in New York to find psychopaths on the streets, so why am I surprised?

Altair: 😑 oh... Hello Linda... what brings you to the streets at this hour?

(Altair threatened Linda at a bar after she was being a jerk to Desmond)

Linda: *looks down at Goldie* What. Is. That? *points at Goldie*

Altair: *sarcastic gasp* Linda I'm shocked. Did your teacher not inform you about what a cat is?

Linda: -_- don't be a smart @$$ with me, you know what I meant... so is it yours?

Altair: sadly no, she is a stray.

Linda: gross. Why is it sitting on public city property?

Altair: uh... cause it's public and anyone can sit here?

Linda: ya, people can, not wild, dirty animals. I would say you're not allowed to sit there either, but unfortunately to the government's eyes, your a person to I guess.

Altair: really? Cause right now I'm staring at the likes of an old crusty dinosaur and I'm pretty those went extinct a long while ago.

Linda: *gasp*! Well I- HMF! Well doesn't matter cause I'll just call animal control if you don't get rid of it!

Altair: you're not doing sh*t, you sayidat majnuna! You're not gonna call them for sh*t! Goldie is-

Linda: he isn't legally yours! What authority do you have to stop me!? Hm? Tell me, what legal authority do you have that will prevent me from doing so?

Altair: ... (sh*t she's right for once) still, birds sit and stand here all the time! You gonna call them on a bunch of birds too!?

Linda: listen here alt!

Altair: Altair.

Linda: I don't care if your name was bob or steve! If I could I would, but those little rats with wings are everywhere! And I can't do much about them, but this I very much can!

Altair: so help me Linda you call them on her-

Linda: you have no control here!

Altair: *swiftly gets up* LINDA I WILL-

Linda: *she wags her finger close to Altair's face* tisk, tisk, tisk, now Altair. Wouldn't want to cause a scene in the public eye, would you now?

Altair: ... (I can't let them know, what I am... Linda already has enough suspicion on me and the family)

Goldie: mow?

Altair: *looks down at Goldie*

Goldie had gone ahead and pull out another croissant from the bag and eat Altair's half-eaten one.

Altair: ... *makes a small smile at Goldie and pets her gently on the head* (I can't risk word getting out and exposing us to Abstergo.) *looks back at Linda with a glare* I won't let you.

Linda: well if you don't, why not just adopt the thing?

Altair: as much as I'd like to, Shaun doesn't let us have pets in the house.

Linda: well what a shame... tell you what, since I'm in a generous mood. I'll give you till tomorrow to say your goodbyes. But by the time I come back, that chubby cat has got to go! Now ta ta, I'm about to be late for work.

Linda continues walking past the two, leaving a lonely Altair alone with his cat.

Altair: ... *sighs* *slumps back down on the bench* ... what are we going to do? ...

Goldie: meow? *nuzzles into Altair's side*

Altair: ... Heh *scratches behind Goldie's ears* don't worry Goldie, I won't let her take you away to some animal prison.

Goldie: mow~

Altair: *reaches into the bag and pulls out another croissant and gives it to goldie* here you go, my little qath saghira.

Goldie: Meow~ *starts eating the croissant*

Altair: *chuckles* ... maybe Linda is right, you are getting a bit big. *pets goldie* Maybe I should stop giving you so many croissants.

Goldie: mow~

Altair: you have been eating a lot more as of late, funny *rubs her tummy* it's almost like you're-... You're... *looks over at Goldie in shock* goldie... your... no...

Goldie: *happy Meow sound*

Altair realized that goldie was pregnant, as an assassin, he doesn't get surprised rarely, but when he does, it's quite the sight to see.

Altair: ... *chuckles* I can't believe this. *picks up Goldie in his lap* you are pregnant aren't you?!

Goldie: meow~ purrrs~

Altair: I'm going to be a grandpa! *chuckles* well I'm technically already am, but this is different. I'm so happy for you my little gold~ *chuckles* Eha... ha...

Goldie: mow?

Altair: ... I can't let Linda take you away, no less leave you here with that stupid mut! Lurking around every corner... I can't just leave you when your most vulnerable at this state, nor can I leave you and your kittens here, the streets are no place for you and your kittens.

Goldie: meow...

Altair: ... *sighs* ... you know what, screw Shaun's rules of no pets!

Goldie: mow?

Altair: *whispers to Goldie* I'm the leader of the assassins and one of the best according to history. *normal talk* I should be able to make my own damn decisions!

Altair: *picks up Goldie and stands up* yes goldie! Let me hear you roar!

#1: Don and Gilda - Chapter 138: Demon serch (1)

My very first redraw from my very first edit posted here, so it deserves an honorable mention. Back then I was young and inexperienced, I didn't even apply a gray filter (lmao I was so unskilled I even unintentionally scratched the picture, I hadn't realized until today). I'm actually very happy my first redraw was of Don, boy deserves all the love.

#2: Emma and Ray - Chapter 140: I’m Here!

Back then this looked like so much work to me!!! And to this day, I think it turned out pretty well. I'm particularly proud of how the bow turned out. This is one I was really proud of right after having finished it; it gave me the confidence to try redrawing bigger areas. Also, the edit were I first applied the opacity of layer / opacity of brush for the gray filter that would have stuck with me.

I don't know I just really like how Krone's hair vanish to a more sketch-like style here– and consequently, how I managed to replicate such effect. I think Krone's beautiful.

#4: Emma, Norman and Ray - Chapter 153: Coward

Probably the single panel redraw I'm the most proud of. That Norman panel was beautiful and very poignant at the end of a chapter I adored, so I believe it deserved all the time I've spent working on it. It's far from being perfect - the back of his head is too plain, and the difference between my brushes and the original brushes is pretty visible - but I still like it very much and am extremely attached to it. The horn looks kinda big but I honestly believe it to be more of an issue with the original than with what I had redrawn lol. Funny enough, the whole picture didn't make it to the final edit and had to be trimmed.

Sis I love this so freaking much. The shift from redrawing almost exclusively people and clothes to redrawing this mess was so fun and refreshing. Even though it's a mess I think it turned out very clean and overall it looks beautiful? I remember after finishing this I felt so powerful, like now that I had redrawn this thing I would have been able to redraw anything I set my mind on lol.

This whole edit was an hella wild ride. I love Emma, and I've always been kinda sad noticing that edits that focus one her take the less notes... She deserves all the love. Also, fun fact: for the last but one panel, I had redrawn Emma's whole left ear before remembering she doesn't have one, so I had to redraw the panel from the start. Besides from the error with the ear, the reason why this (and all the others after) took so long is because official panel take way longer to clean.

Lmao tbh I can't understand how this has so few notes it's like. Technically speaking, probably the best edit I've ever done. I don't even like Isabella that much, I haven't got the slightlest idea why I decided to spend so many hours on this. Anyway, I find the composition (full body on the left / headshots on the right) really good looking in this as well! And I think the redraws turned out fine, especially Isabella's.

I don't know how I came up with that idea for the composition but I find it really beautiful??? I think it does a pretty good job conveying the sudden, terrific shift of atmosphere from the first chapter, and I think that sharp bridge is very nice. I'm very, very proud of this.

A very good chapter, and the edit turned out surprisingly amazing??? All the redraws look great and make it almost impossible to distinguish them from the original; honestly I feel like I'll never be able to redraw so neatly again lol.

That one is really one of my favorite scenes; I'm telling you peoples, Gilda and Don are a blessing to the earth. I think I've never mentioned it, but Gilda's hair is a nightmare to redraw??? I was so glad to finally be able to make a Norman / Ray edit, and it turned out it was just in time before the series' finale. I like how it turned out and I'm pretty satisfied with the redraws (even though my sister helped me with the lineart of some panels - it was exams time and I really couldn't afford to spend more time on it), too bad we didn't have more chapters that focused on the boys. Ray sweetie one day I'll fix your ear it's just today's not that day.

Btw, I justed realized I have never done an Emma / Norman centered edit? I'll have to make one eventually. I remember considering focusing on them alone for the chapter 154 one, but then I thought "even if the manga is gonna ignore Ray, I will chose to do not" lol.

I REALLY LOVE IT! I mean it *was* kinda stressing to note everything, but it was very also very satisfying to see everything methodically divided and organized! And it's not just that– it's also the fact that it looks good. That's one post I have fun rereading because it's actually pretty! Also, even though it can be very stressing to learn to use new programs and sites, it's always very satisfying to look at the final result. Again, I really adore compiling these tiny little details! I would love to make more posts of that kind if i had the time.
