my ten manga/game/anime/etc recs for jirai
hiii long time no long ass recs post! i wanna recommend media that is popular w landmine types for newbies to the subculture, and recommendations for those who might have been here long enough to know the most popular media within jirai subculture and want some recommendations beyond that!
so without further ado...
1. Tomorrow, I Will Become Someone's Girlfriend
Tumblr media
TW: unsafe sex work, abusive relationships, body dysmorphia, self harm, substance use, misogyny, and parental death
Okay you knew this was coming. It's probably the most popular manga amongst jirai girls as it literally is about Kabukicho, sex work, trauma, and jirai culture. Everyone's seen Yua at this point, and she is a jiraicon, but the other characters are interesting and may be relatable to jirai girls too!
2. Mahou Shoujo Site
Tumblr media
TW: sexual assault, r@pe, abusive family dynamics, transphobia, self-harm, suicide, murder, gore, bullying, human sacrifice
This is probably also familiar to people in the jirai community and yandereblr. Super mega fucked-up parody of magical girl animes with a cast of memorable but mentally unhinged and often morally gray-to-terrible characters with a hopeful message at the end. The most unfortunate girls around Japan get given magical girl items to improve their lives, but using them drains their life force- and someone's on the hunt for magical girls, all while the countdown to the apocalypse ticks down on the mysterious magical girl site. DO NOT BOTHER WITH THE ANIME, JUST READ THE MANGA!!
3. Needy Girl Overdose/Needy Streamer Overload
Tumblr media
TW: substance abuse, self-harm, murder (potentially), suicide, non-graphic sexual content, abuse (player is being abused by the main character), unreality, internet addiction
Duh. I can't not have this game on here! Created by a renowned menhera subculture artist and featuring Jirai icons Ame-chan and KAngel, this game has blown up unexpectedly since its release, getting art exhibits and collabs with brands like DearMyLove. You play as P-chan, Ame/KAngel's boyfriend and producer, while you try to help her achieve her goals of becoming an influencer and prevent her from killing herself or going insane along the way. If you've been in a relationship like this as the P-chan, I'm sorry we relate but this game was super therapeutic to me so maybe it'll help you process too!! Also the soundtrack fucks. Hard.
4. Neeko wa Tsurai Yo!
Tumblr media
TW: agoraphobia, existentialism, substance use (kind of), ecchi (of both adult and high schooler characters), suicidal ideation, internet addiction
This is a super underrated personal favorite I've posted about a few times before. It follows hikki-NEET gacha gamer Niiko, as she faces jealousy of her little sister for being farther in life than her as a high-schooler, the trauma of a particularly horrific job rejection keeping her from going outside or trying for another job, and being totally fed up with her life. It's a pretty depressing read for the first half, but becomes a realistic story about recovery by the end.
5. Wristcut Warriors: Menherachan
Tumblr media
TW: suicide attempts, self-harm (duh), parental abuse, parental death, parental neglect, attempted sexual assault, mild gore, societal ableism/sanism
Much more popular in the menhera subculture than anywhere else, but still popular enough with landmine types to be included, and a personal comfort series of mine. This is a satire manga about three teenage magical girls who have to self-harm to transform, meant as an allegory for how suffering and self-sacrifice for the sake of upholding societal norms is seen as more noble in Japan than speaking out etc. It's pretty short with only 20 chapters and some supplemental material, and tons of merch collabs but due to Ezaki being the actual fucking worst i encourage you to only but fanmerch and second-hand.
6. Danganronpa
Tumblr media
TW: murder, suicide, ableist depiction of DID, misgendering (kind of, im not getting into ******* discourse so ill put it jic), SA, addiction, and general violence and blood
I'm biased as a Danganronpa multi-kin and selfshipper but I personally think every jirai should play Danganronpa, read the supplemental materials and watch DR3 if they can. Quirky teens with mental issues locked in a school and forced to kill each other or themselves? Prime insanity and mindbreaking ensues, with some really cool characters coming out of the franchise. Despite the premise, theres a pretty hopeful message.
7. Oshi no Ko
Tumblr media
TW: stalking, teen pregnancy, exploitation of minors, suicide attempts, murder, terminal illness, age gap relationships, bullying, abortion, parasocial relationships, and... sigh... pseudo-incest is apparently in the manga as well
If you are into idol anime and expect your standard cinderella story about passionate girls and guys hitting it big... Oshi no Ko isn't the idol anime you're used to. This doesn't even follow the hit idol herself- rather, her two children who are reincarnated fans. They have to find their way in the exploitative and often dark showbiz world while trying to solve their mother's murder.
8. Bocchi the Rock!
Tumblr media
TW: agoraphobia, alcohol abuse
I only watched this one recently, but it's already an all-time fav. It follows agoraphobic and severly socially anxious Hitori (aka Bocchi), and her newfound friends as they do their best to become a successful local band! They make odd friends along the way and Bocchi starts to try to recover and better herself, with often comedic failures along the way.
9. TUYU's interconnected songs
Tumblr media
TW: abuse, substance abuse, unsafe SW, dysmorphia, suicide, self harm, parasocialism
Okay so... ik the timing is bad but I meant to make this list ages ago and this was on it so... a lot of the TUYU songs and MVs are interconnected! Some specifically cover jirai kei and ryousangata otaku topics! My favorite songs and MVs are the ones involving my favorite characters, Anhiro and Anzu, who are heavily featured in the Under Mentality album.
10. School-Live!
Tumblr media
MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!! I RECOMMEND GOING IN BLIND FOR THIS ANIME SPECIFICALLY!!
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
TW: unreality, major character death, parental death, self-harm, animal death, graphic depictions of delusions and hallucinations
I loved the anime, so I picked up the manga recently. I'm only a little ways in, but I want to complete it since the anime didn't cover it all! You don't even know the plot until the final seconds of the first episode, where it's revealed that Yuki is the only member of the squad who doesn't realize what's going on- she's not in school for class, she's living there for shelter in a zombie apocalypse. Oh, and she sees dead people. She has moments of clarity, and the story often follows other characters' memories and POVs, so you still get to have a clear look into what happened and what's going on for real.
That was my list of my current top ten media recommendations for jirai kei! Please lmk if you decide to give any of these a try! Remember that I also regularly post music recs under #music too! Bye-bye!!

I'm going to voice a worry of mine that this ask blog is going to end up dead at some point due to various reasons. I've seen many ask blogs of this particular type end up inactive before the story is finished, and I'm merely worried if this will be one of them.
While that is a fair concern to voice, anon, you do have to realize there are a variety of reasons why it happens, most often being:
The creator has a life outside of the blog that becomes more important
Interest and time to be able to work on its fades
More applicable to this blog specifically, is that it is, ultimately, a fan-made project, and while the engagement is enough of a reward for one such as myself due to ADHD/Autism, many people can find themselves stifled should they have a stronger desire to do something they deem more productive/original
I will admit, my living situation is not Usual for most people and thus it gives me a lot of time to work on things. I live with my grandparents, so I do not have to pay bills or get my own food, and I also don't have an actual job, so I am pretty much drowning in free time--Though I do have commission work to do, and I do keep myself to a schedule for that.
However, I'll be completely honest, my energy in this blog is largely ruled by my focus and fixation in the material. There was a brief spell a while back, I think early December, where I was feeling the interest wane and it became a bit of a chore to do stuff for the blog. And trust me, I didn't like it. I felt like I was failing people if that were the case.
But the thing is... I didn't exactly expect to get this level of attention with my nonsense. Fandom as a whole, especially tumblr fandom from what I've noticed, doesn't really put OCs in the forefront, or even Fanon OCs very much, so I was fully expecting and content with maybe having a handful of regular followers watching me dance about on the stage for a bit.
Then it became this whole thing.
Now, I don't like to make promises that are dependent on the whims of my neurodiversity, because that is very much like herding cats. But I also don't exactly appreciate being told that, rather than just saying you enjoy what I do, you're already worried I won't be able to keep up the momentum. It kind of puts more of that dread on my shoulders and shame should I ever have another dry spell.
So, that being said, a couple of things I'd like to suggest that may not 100% prevent things ending before they're finished, but can definitely distract you from that worry and not place so much responsibility on me for something that, again, I started purely for fun.
Engage! You hear tumblr artists screaming it at the top of their lungs left and right, BUT THEY ARE CORRECT. I am a creature motivated by people saying they enjoy my stuff. By people proving they have been paying attention. So if you'd like me to keep up my own interest, please show yours!
Check out the stuff I do outside the blog. If you like my content, please know that this blog isn't everything I create/produce. I have other fandom characters I mess around with from time to time, I have a large variety of original stories with similar airs of drama and character-driven narratives. I've linked to it a lot, but my main is @asimplechaos, and that's where I post pretty much everything else on tumblr. While I do love this blog, and I do love making fandom content, I do also want to develop my own original content, so I would genuinely love it if people took a look because they liked my CotL stuff.
I also do art commissions, so you can provide financial support so I don't have to constantly worry about having to pause for a stretch so I can try to focus on making adopts or advertising my services in order to garner funds. They're rarely closed, and I offer a variety of things, so I can and will draw your OC if you pay me!
If this blog does start to fizzle out, I will at the very least try to, say, write up a synopsis of how things would go so the story doesn't just stop entirely. I wouldn't like that. But please, for the time being, focus on the here and now, and not worry about the future.

Wondrous Tails - Cooking "Together" & Domesticity
"Soup's On"
My fourth work for Wondrous Tails this year! This one got away from me so I've doubled up on the prompts this time: Cooking Together & Domesticity. This one continues the previous story, with G'raha resolved to make some soup to help Y'shtola feel better!
You can check it out on AO3, or read it below!
G’raha once again found himself behind the kitchen counter, though this time he was searching for a book. A cookbook, to be more specific.
He’d known Lehon’a to whip up something delicious from time to time, and he could’ve sworn she’d bought some recipe books at one point or another. He hoped one of them might have a recipe for something hearty he could make for Y’shtola, who was still recovering in bed from the mystery illness she’d caught.
After a fruitless search underneath the counter, he eventually spotted them on a high shelf, sitting over a small work surface currently occupied by tea and coffee making equipment. He hooked a small step-stool nearby with a foot, and climbed onto it to inspect his options. Upon closer inspection, most of the books weren’t labeled (he assumed Lehon’a had just memorized which was which), so he pulled them off the shelf one at a time.
He'd leafed through a few of the tomes before he found one that looked promising: Soup for All Seasons. He quickly scanned over the table of contents, looking for something to inspire him, and about halfway down the page, he’d found it. ‘Fortifying Soup’, it was called. Not a very poetic name, but credit for utility at least, he thought to himself. He flipped to the page number provided, and looked over the recipe. It seemed pretty doable given the well-equipped kitchen, but he’d have to see what ingredients they had on hand.
He cautiously stepped down from the stool with the book in hand and set it on the countertop nearby, leaving it open to the recipe he was looking at. He returned the stool to its proper place with a gentle push of his foot and began to scan the kitchen for any sign of produce. Eventually, he spotted a wooden crate filled with vegetables at the opposite end of the kitchen, sitting atop another overturned crate to keep them off the floor. He began to paw through the produce, pulling out a couple purple-colored carrots and a small container of white mushrooms that was hidden near the bottom, along with a suitably large popoto. Placing the veggies on the counter next to the book, he double checked the recipe for the remaining ingredients: highland spring water, herbs, and salt. We certainly have salt, and I can check the garden outside for herbs, but what of that water?
He figured that since it was specifically named, it was better if he didn’t substitute average tap water for it, but he didn’t feel comfortable leaving Y’shtola alone long enough to run to a market board to see if there was some for sale. After a few more moments’ deliberation and another glance around the room, he spotted something that gave him an idea: the bell Lehon’a used to call on her retainers. He wandered out from behind the counter to the doorway where the bell stand stood. Beside it on a small side table sat a small basket filled with a type of coin he didn’t recognize at first. Upon closer inspection, he realized they were likely some kind of currency that Lehon’a used to pay the retainers for their services.
There were two names listed on the small clipboard attached to the stand, a “Maasia” who was a professional miner, and a “Soliaras” who was a lancer for hire. From what he could tell, it looked like the way to request one or the other was to ring the bell a different number of times: three for Maasia, two for Soliaras. G’raha stood for a moment, a bit nervous to do something like this without Lehon’a around, but eventually he decided that helping Y’shtola was worth the worry.
He took a sharp breath, and before he could think any better of it, gave the bell three staccato rings. After a moment, he saw a small glowing light through the front window and heard the noise that usually accompanied teleportation by aetheryte. He quickly grabbed a handful of the small coins in the basket and pulled open the front door.
G’raha was greeted by the sight of another miqo’te: he had long golden hair, and he wore dusty work clothes with a small pickaxe and hammer hanging from his belt.
“I’d say you were just the person I was hoping to see, but I don’t believe we’ve met before! Are you a friend of Lehon’a’s?” The stranger extended his hand. “Name’s Maasia.”
G’raha accepted the handshake. “G’raha Tia, pleasure to meet you. And I… suppose you could say that Lehon’a and I are friends, of a sort.”
“Oho, lucky man! Not everyone gets the venerable Warrior of Light in their bed at night, that’s for certain,” Maasia replied, correctly seeing through G’raha’s vagueness and grinning a mile wide (much to G’raha’s dismay). “So! Tell me your heart’s desire– aside from Lehon’a of course, she’s one thing I can’t bring back to you, no matter how many of those you give me,” he said, pointing at the coins in G’raha’s hand.
G’raha, already growing red enough to nearly match his hair, tried his best to compose himself.
“I’m terribly sorry for having bothered you; it’s not Lehon’a I’m in search of– at least not at the moment. I’m looking after a sick… friend of mine and I wanted to make her something to eat, but the recipe wanted something called… oh what was it?” He trailed off, trying hard to remember the name that had just escaped him. “Some kind of… highland water, I think?”
Maasia pulled out a small field notebook out of a back pocket, and began flipping through it, stopping when something on a particular page caught his eye. “This what you’re after?” he asked, turning the page in question to G’raha so he could read it.
The page read “Highland Spring Water” at the top, with a bunch of information in shorthand noted below that G’raha didn’t even begin to understand.
“That was it, yes!” G’raha pointed to the page emphatically.
“How much do you require?”
“Enough for a sizable pot of soup should suffice.” Maasia made a note in his book, then consulted some pages near the back before clapping it shut. G’raha held out the palm full of coins toward Maasia, unsure of how to pay. “Is this enough?”
Maasia let out a hearty laugh. “My good fellow, I only require one of those tokens for a request of this scale,” he replied, taking a single coin from the pile.
“Oh.” G’raha felt his face grow warm once again. “One more question, before you go: how long might this type of job take?”
“I’ll be back by the next bell at the latest, I guarantee it.”
“Right. Well, I’ll be inside waiting, so if you knock I should hear you.”
“Understood, see you soon!” Maasia said with a smile before channeling a teleportation spell to wherever he was headed. G'raha could've sworn he saw Maasia give him a wink before finishing the teleport, and let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding when the spell completed. No wonder Lehon'a's more of a flirt than me, he thought. She has to keep up with this guy all the time.
He tried to put the encounter out of his mind as he turned towards the vegetable patch and planters that sat in the front yard. A quick lap around the garden yielded a grip full of herbs: rosemary, basil and thyme, plus some green onions. Satisfied with his haul, G’raha headed back inside to start preparing.
G’raha was washing the large chef’s knife and cutting board in the sink, repeatedly glancing up at the wall chronometer as the hands ticked toward the next bell. Behind him on the counter sat his handiwork: chopped vegetables, minced herbs, and measured spices, all ready for the eventual water delivery. He had peeked in on Y’shtola a couple times while he was working, and on one of those occasions brought her a damp cloth for her forehead to help relieve the nagging fever, but she had slept through it all.
With one tick of the chronometer left until Maasia’s self-imposed deadline, G’raha shut off the water just in time to hear a familiar noise outside. He quickly set the tools on the drying rack and scampered around the counter to the door, pulling it open just as Maasia had raised his hand to knock.
“Right on cue, my good man! I've got your water right here.” Maasia pulled a large glass jug full of what G'raha assumed was the spring water out of a satchel he'd just placed on the doorstep. G'raha reached out to accept it, his arms jerking downward with the unexpected weight.
“Is there anything else I need to do for you?”
“You took the words right out of my mouth!” Maasia exclaimed, punctuating his sentence with a laugh. “No, I already got all I need from you, unless there's anything else you require.”
“Naught comes to mind.” G’raha turned to go back inside, and then remembered himself halfway over the threshold and turned around. “My apologies, I suppose I’m a bit too focused on cooking at the moment, but thank you for the water. It gladdens me to know Lehon’a has someone so capable supporting her.”
“No need to apologize, I just hope your friend gets to enjoy some delicious soup. With that, my work is done and I bid you farewell.” This time G'raha definitely saw Maasia wink as he teleported away, and even though he'd had a bell to prepare himself, it still left him feeling a bit flustered.
He lugged the jug back inside and hoisted it up to the counter. Thankfully, the recipe from here was pretty straightforward: throw everything in a huge pot and let it simmer for a bell. One by one, all the prepped ingredients were added to the large steel stock pot that sat on one of the stove burners, with the jug of water emptied on top of everything. G'raha turned on the flame to a low setting, and then rounded up the remaining dirty containers and tools to place in the sink.
It's been a good while, I should check on her again before I do anything else, he thought to himself, gauging the chronometer as he walked back to the stairs. He crept down them with deliberate steps, trying hard not to make excess noise that would wake Y’shtola. He poked his head into the bedroom and noticed that despite Y’shtola continuing to sleep, the water glass on the bedside table was emptier than he'd left it. Probably woke for a brief moment and felt thirsty.
He moved into the room and collected the towel (now mostly dry) and glass while gently pressing a free hand to her forehead to see if the fever had improved. It was hard to tell exactly, but to his senses she seemed to have cooled down slightly from when he'd checked earlier. He padded back out the door and up the stairs, adding a book he'd recently started to his armful of items on the way out. He made sure to finish the dishes first, but after the kitchen was back to its original condition, G’raha took the stool closest to the end of the counter and decided to read, eagerly waiting for the next chimes of the chronometer.
G'raha looked up from the book and was shocked to see that most of a bell had indeed passed. He snapped the tome closed and hopped down off the stool to go take a look at the finished product in the pot. The scent had been slowly filling the air as the minutes had gone by, but he was eager to see if the appearance matched how good it smelled.
The first glance into the pot looked promising, and a small taste test with a spoon confirmed it: it came out exactly as he'd hoped. G'raha did a small celebratory fist pump and his ears wiggled a little, a sense of pride in what he'd made washing over him.
He quickly dampened a clean towel before filling two bowls of soup and two glasses of cold water, placing everything on a tray to carry downstairs.
He made sure to be extra careful this time; he'd hate to disturb Y’shtola and have soup cover half of the basement should he stumble. He reached the bottom safely, and nudged the slightly ajar bedroom door open the rest of the way with his tail.
He gently placed the tray on the bedside table, pulling the nearby chair slightly closer to the bed before sitting down.
“Shtola,” he said in a soft voice, gently rubbing the shoulder closest to him to try and wake her.
“Mmm…?” Y'shtola's eyes slowly cracked open; her expression changed from disoriented to relaxed upon meeting G'raha’s gaze.
“Well I… thought you might like something to eat since you'd said you hadn't had anything of late, so… I made some vegetable soup out of stuff that I could find in the kitchen.” He gestured to the tray and the two bowls of soup that sat upon it.
“I wish I could smell it properly, it sounds quite good,” she replied, slowly easing herself up into a slightly more elevated sitting position. G'raha quickly grabbed a spare pillow to place between her and the wall.
“Do you need any assistance with eating it? I could fee–”
“I can still feed myself, Raha. I'm not that sick.” She realized after she looked over at G'raha that it probably came off a bit snarkier than intended. “But I do appreciate the offer.”
“Then here you are.” He smiled at her and handed her a full bowl of soup and a spoon, which she eagerly took from him, careful to avoid spilling on the sheets. She dipped her spoon into the bowl, gathering a good mix of veggies and broth before bringing it to her lips. She blew on it gently to make sure it wasn't too hot, and then had her first taste. G'raha told himself he wouldn't stare, but he ended up eagerly watching her face anyway, trying to gauge her reaction.
It was as if all the color that had been missing from Y'shtola's face that day came rushing back the second the spoon left her mouth. She immediately went back for another spoonful, and smiled as she swallowed it. “Twelve above, Raha, this is delicious! Even after just a couple bites, I'm already feeling malms better.” She practically inhaled the rest of the soup in her bowl, nearly finishing before G’raha had the chance to have more than one spoonful. “Pray forgive my lack of manners,” she said, bringing the bowl to her lips and drinking the rest of the broth in one go, “that was too good not to finish entirely.”
“Manners are the least of my concern. I’m just glad you’re alright, my love.” Y’shtola froze for a split second when she heard G’raha say it, and he broke into a sheepish smile, like a child caught with a hand in the cookie jar.
There was a brief moment of silence. Y’shtola cut through the tension by reaching for his free hand. “Thank you, Raha. I really mean that. Admittedly, letting others help me with simpler matters like this is something I’ve shied away from more often than not, and well… you’ve done much to make it easier for me to accept that help. To accept being loved, I suppose.” She sighed. “I’d been a bit hesitant when this relationship began. It’s not exactly the most common arrangement, and while we're certainly familiar, I hadn't made much of an attempt to be closer to you. I told myself that you deserved a fair trial before I came to any conclusions. And now I can see that you’re every bit the man Lehon’a thinks you to be. I know now why it is she loves you so, and for those reasons and more I’m sure I’ve yet to see, I love you too.”
G’raha squeezed her hand in return, trying his best to hold back tears of joy.
“Now, my chef in shining armor, I have only one more request. A true test of your worthiness, if you will.”
He wiped his face with the sleeve of his tunic, trying to regain some composure. “And what might that be, my lady?”
She glanced to the bedside table. “Could you trade me this bowl for a glass of water?”
After a beat, they both burst out laughing, grinning ear to ear.
“Of course, Shtola. I can do that.” He took the bowl from her hands and set it on the tray, handing her a glass of water with his other hand.
“Thank you again. Now it looks like you’ve got some soup to finish, if I’m not mistaken.”
G’raha nodded before having another spoonful of soup, surprising himself again at how well it had turned out. He carefully savored each portion, watching Y’shtola in between bites as she took sips of the water. In all of the time he’d known her, G’raha had yet to see her smile like this, and like the delicious meal in front of him, he wanted nothing more than to make it last.
After some time, when the glasses and bowls were all empty and he’d noticed Y’shtola starting to look a bit more tired, G’raha reached out for her hand to get her attention.
“I think I’m gonna take some of this stuff back upstairs and tidy up, but I’ll be back in just a moment, okay?” Y’shtola nodded, replacing the extra pillow G’raha had grabbed earlier before lying down again. He slipped out the door one last time with the full tray in hand, eager to return and join her in bed.
Lehon’a unlocked the front door and pushed it in, turning on the chandelier to compensate for the darkness outside. Timeliness wasn't always one of her strong suits, but even she hadn't anticipated being this late in returning. She dropped her pack by the door and spotted what appeared to be a bowl of soup on the counter along with a note addressed to her.
“My heart,
Y’shtola felt a bit under the weather today, so I’ve been looking after her in your absence. I decided to make some vegetable soup from one of your recipe books; I hope you don’t mind that I spent one of your retainer tokens to acquire a certain ingredient. If it’s any consolation, I think you’ll find the result was well worth it. I definitely recommend eating it warmed up if you can, so I left a smaller pot on the stove for you.
Much love,
G’raha”
Lehon’a set down the note and padded down the stairs, resolved to return for her soup later. She carefully peeked in through the bedroom door, and spotted her two partners curled up together on the near side of the bed, fast asleep. She had half a mind to shed her clothes then and there and join the cat-pile on the bed, but her stomach had other ideas. She gently closed the door and turned back to the stairs, cracking a smile at the thought of G’raha and Y’shtola finally figuring things out.

Avis' Subject Symposium: Dumbing Down Dread
Tumblr media
Art by Acro @sodalite96/https://twitter.com/sodalite96 Used with their permission. Go check them out!)
Recently and for basically my whole time producing Jock/Jock Adjacent Hypno content I’ve gotten a variation on the same question. “Is it possible to listen to your files without losing my I.Q. Points?” I’ve gotten it on discord, Tumblr Asks and DMs, Patreon messages, the works. I've always said this, but I.Q. is perhaps one of the worst ways that we've developed to measure intellect. Highly rigid and dogmatic, Deeply contextual to certain societies, developed as tools of eugenicist movements, and overall being relatively limited and restrictive to the type of intelligence that gets valued. (Here are some links and citations for further reading because one doesn't just make claims 1, 2, 3).
But it's good as short-hand and it is kind of alluring to imagine something as complicated as intelligence being twisted and manipulated like a knob on a console; raising and lowering a number.
Lots of really good tf stories have that hook. I'm even guilty of using the term once or twice in my files or my captions(though always with a disclaimer attached)
But overall I get the question that’s really being asked. You're basically worried that by using my files you're suddenly going to be zonked into a drooling incapable Moron and that scares you for some reason.
Well, first to assuage the fears of both you and many others. If you don't want it to happen (either consciously or unconsciously) then you probably have nothing to worry about. Any tist or file-creator worth their spirals will always tell you that your brain is fully capable of refusing most suggestions, and at any point you can say "No" or revoke consent.
That's the simple answer to your question.
However I'd like to use this as an opportunity to ask those of you with this similar concern to consider some alternate perspectives.
I've worked with a fair few people who would be considered very intelligent by the standards of most intellectual purists. College educated, Diplomas. Some with doctorates. Lawyers, actors, presenters, writers, More than one Biomed student.
All of whom have enjoyed Dumbing in one form or another. I've even partook of some of my own work like the Painted Himbo file and Enjoyed that Pink haze of ditzy dumbness myself. It is incredibly enjoyable. Freeing. Reducing your thoughts and vocabulary. Allowing that Uninhibited Fratty-Ditzy-Drooly Dumbness to overwhelm you.
One will note that the people I am talking about, myself included are not drooling invalids at this point in time.
That is because most people who go for dumbing do it as a part of a singular experience. A passing high like the buzz of a drink or a Smoke. They enjoy it and then they return to their baseline of competence, occasionally bringing along some of the more fun aspects of reduced capacity with enough Listens. Because as anyone who has done any form of hypnotic programming will tell you, in order to see long-term effects you've gotta listen consistently and put in the work yourself . Otherwise you're not gonna see any changes.
The majority of people will probably experience Dumbing Hypnosis in this fleeting, fun, experiential way, so there is nothing to be worried about for the majority of you. Go listen. Enjoy. Zonk to your hearts desire. However there is another perspective. Another question to ask.
Is it really that bad to be dumb?
Societal expectations and typical modern value systems prize certain forms of intellect because they are associated with productivity. In short, Smart people make slightly less smart but more ruthless people more money.
If you want to live within this system that’s more than ok. It's not bad to be smart. It has its perks.
But in my experience many of the subjects with whom I've worked who have been tempted by and decided for themselves to plunge deep into the realms of permanent dumbing have almost invariably come back out of it happier, healthier, and without an ounce of regret.
Men who had achieved the societal expectation of intellect but were never fulfilled by it. In fact were ravaged by the anxiety and dissatisfaction which it so often brings. Who relished the chance to finally give up that life and reduce their cares along with their Vocabulary. Restrict their anxiety in addition to their interests. To indulge in blissful ignorance and uninhibited joy. But even these people didn’t completely ruin their lives.
Can it truly said to be ruination if at the end of the day you have a smile on your face and a newfound appreciation for life? Its just a pivot. A change. Being smart is right for some people in the same way university might be right for some people. But it's not right for everyone.
So perhaps one should question if its ever been right for you, or if you might instead prefer to be like one of those Happy few who gave up the chains of expectation and lived for themselves for once.
Perhaps one should question how much your “High I.Q.” has really contributed to your overall happiness.
Perhaps you should give a few of my dumbing files a listen, cause surely Smart guys like you will be able to appreciate some of the arguments now that you know you have nothing to worry about.
Thanks again to Acro for letting me use their Art, definitely go and support them on twitter. Ever since his fake death, Itadori has been training alone with the help of Gojo - and now, he works along a freshly new face, who belongs to a senior, founds out ex-salaryman named Nanami Kento. He's far a thousand times more strict than Gojo. Itadori doesn't really likes the change, because Nanami is a person he can't get along. This whole guy's appearance scream "work 4 life"; he has proved different, now he screams "work is shit - but I gotta do it because others won't".
They've just finished cleansing the outside of a movie theater off a few curses, when Itadori hears shouting from far behind them. Two figures approach, waving excessively. He quickly picks on Nanami's tired sigh beside him.
"Nanami! We figured out you'd be here! Our mission has been finished and we wanted to catch up to have lunch together!" A male clad in a full black outfit shouts, he has brown hair and a beanie on top of his head, looking quite content.
The other person simply trots next to him in silence, approaching with a friendly smile. They notice Itadori faster than the male, smile widening and quickly waving hello, suddenly eager to reach up to them. The gesture makes the pink haired boy perk up, curious to why the other person looked so joyful. His question is easily answered, when they tug on the man's sleeve and motion to him.
"Ino, we have a third buddy!" The dude looks at him with widened eyes. "So nice to meet you, I'm Y/N L/N! It's great to see new faces around!"
Itadori smiles at your energy, knowing already he would click with you very well.
"I'm Ino Takuma, sorry for not noticing you before! Your uniform looks cool." Itadori exchanges a few compliments with Ino, before the man turns to talk with Nanami, leaving him and you together.
"Yes! I'm Sukuna's vessel, Itadori Yuuji-desu! My type of woman is Jenn-"
You turn to him. "So, are you a first year?"
"Geh? Weren't you dead though?!"
"I was!- I am!- Please keep secret."
"Okay!"
"Ahem." Nanami coughs, drawing attention. "I requested you two to not come after me today. Itadori here is the reason why."
"That's no problem, we're very capable of keeping secrets." You threw your arm over Itadori's shoulder, him nodding along with you.
"Oh really, then remember to keep quiet about it. I'll let this slide." The group of students nervously at Nanami's intimidating tone. "But, I'll get to have my break alone."
"Gah!" Ino exclaimed, watching Nanami walk away; he also left the responsability of taking care of Itadori for you two, leaving without a word. "It really had to be today, when Nanami would take us to his favorite bakery..."
"Crybaby." You teased. "Itadori here can't go outside where anyone can see him, he's dead. So, we were to order food either way because he shouldn't be left out."
"Augh okay, it would be unfair."
"So, where are you staying Itadori?"
"At Gojo's state!"
"Whoa, I've never been there before." Ino commented, waiting as you sent a message to Ijichi to pick them up.
"He's my teacher, a very cool one!"
"I imagine! Ooookay, once we get there I'll get the food."
Itadori felt as his chest would burst of excitement, finally there was people around him again, he couldn't be less happy about it.
"Sharing is caring!"
Itadori laughed as you wrestled with Takuma for some fries, netflix long forgotten in the background, as watching the banter was way more entertaining. Most of the time, Ino rambled a lot about Nanami, while he rambled a lot about Gojo. The guy even showed him the cool scar under his beanie. He felt kinda upset after explaining the exchange was just temporary, his stay under Nanami's wing wasn't decisive, and therefore, he was more like a classmate than a partner.
Itadori also learned a lot about you. He was surprised to find out that you, although energetic, was the one to speak the lesser in conversations. His surprisement grew even bigger when you told him you're a exchange student from Kyoto, arriving Tokyo about the same month as him - thankfully, you were to say for good.
Conversations flowed easily in the air, until a voice from the doorway barged in.
"Yuuji-kun! Don't forget about your lessons! Hi kids! Bye kids!" Gojo said playfully, throwing the familiar punching bear to Itadori before leaving.
"What's this thing?" Ino asked.
"It's to help me control my cursed energy. So while I watch the movies, if I don't charge it with cursed energy it punches me square in the face. I thought I had mastered this thing already, but he insist I keep training with it." Itadori grumbles.
"At least it's cute." You commented, taking a sip of your drink.
"Until it punches you in your face without warning!" The pink haired boy barks.
The talks died down, the three of you eating quietly when another movie is played on the screen. Itadori didn't bother reading the title, it was a plain one about a zombie apocalypse that got him extremely bored, yet he kept watching still so the plushie didn't punch him in the face again; he's been keeping a record since all his last cursed energy training lessons were a sucess to this day. When his head started nodding and eyelids dropping Itadori can't remember well, about fourty five minutes of movie perhaps? Make it fifty, the second slumber took over his body completely.
When he awoke once again, it was near midnight, the clock on the wall told him so. He also noticed a soft and warm surface supporting his head, figures, it's your shoulder he's resting into, he feels an arm around his own shoulders and your cheek placed upon his hair.
"Hey, it's late." You immediately notices he's awake, calling out softly. "You should sleep on your room, or something, better to your spine."
He chuckles when you poke his side. "But I'm comfortable here."
"I'm surprised, you just met me today, and now is sleeping on my shoulder."
"I'm not, that happens often to me."
"Sleeping on people's shoulders?"
"No! Making friends quickly." Itadori likes your gentle warmth, your hug, everything makes him feel at home. "I met two more people before you for two weeks, but they can't see me, because I'm dead."
"So I'll keep you company, that's my new mission."
His eyes widen at that, a oh so little blush covering the tip of his ears.
"For how many time I slept anyway?" He asks.
"About two- no, three hours. You missed two movies, and this one is about to end."
"And you stayed here the whole time?" He motions to your shoulder.
"Yep. That reminds me I gotta pee."
Itadori grumbles, but quickly lifts himself off you, respecting your needs. That gives him some time to look around, he notices Ino is gone, and the plushie sits quietly at the other side of the couch, unmoving.
"Y/N! How did you manage to make it quiet down?" He's beyond bafflet.
"...que."
"What!"
"I said!" You arrive quickly at the doorframe, hands still wet from when you washed them. "I used my innate technique."
"Oh! How is it like?"
"It's kinda funny, gimme a moment." You left to wipe off your hands, coming back in a second. "So, just like Shoko, I produce reverse curse energy, but it's quite different than hers, I can't heal people. That's why we often call it positive energy instead. I can use it to soothe off negative energy, so the bear has no cursed energy right now."
"How does it works on people?" He felt very curious about everything, asking away like a kid.
"Since everyone has negative energy, it just makes you sleepy really. But when it comes to curses it's really practical, I can either weaken it or, if the curse is like grade three or four, I can slap them off existence completely by wiping all their energy." You were naturally proud of having a such versatile power, your own energy swirling with pride around you.
"That sounds amazing! Is it why I fell asleep though?"
"Nah, only if I did it on purpose. I guess you were just tired, hope you don't mind I decided to let you rest today."
"No way, it was a good nap."
You nodded. "By the way, Ino left to attend to a drinking party, he paid for our food."
"Drinking? Is he old?"
"Yeah, he's twenty." You chuckled, already expecting that kind of reaction.
"No way! He looks young just like us!"
"That's totally my reaction after I learned he's twenty!"
After that day, you started visiting Itadori weekly to daily, after exchanging numbers he made a little group with you and Ino, naming it the "Nanami trio". But really, he exchanges more texts with you in private, be them memes, cool images he wish to share, etcetera. Although, Ino wasn't left excluded, he ofter brough his xbox to connect to Itadori's tv room and you all would spend hours playing together; he just didn't spend much time with both of you as much. And that was okay.
For a few days, your connection with Itadori died down when he didn't reply to your texts. They would remain unread for some time, the longest being half a day, until he would spam apologies then move on with the topic. That became a routine until one day when you came over to check on Itadori unnanounced, needin to ease off your worries about the boy, only to find him sobbing in the middle of a hallway, staring ahead and beyond, his back to you.
"Ita-?"
"Egh!" Startled, he scrambled to wipe his eyes, turning to you. "H-hey, um, hi."
"What happened?"
"I- he-" His eyes didn't met yours, knuckles white in a death grip. You notice he has a few bandages thrown over his face and arms. The way his shoulders are drawn, as if he wants to shrink into himself is something you've experienced before.
"Something hard to talk about?"
He nods almost immediately, head still facing down.
"It's alright, come with me." You reach for his hands, grimacing slightly when his forceful grip is now on your hand, yet you don't comment on it. He follows you through the state wordlessly.
You two stop on the same tv room, sitting down on the couch. You then guide his head to your shoulder, gently massaging his scalp with the free hand.
"It's alright."
Those two words are chanted like a prayer for the next half hour, at some point, Itadori twisted his body towards yours and unknowingly caged you between him and the sofa arm. He embraced you with a force you didn't have in you, like he didn't want to lose one another. Painful or not, not a muscle moved on your body. He needed a shoulder to cry on.
Thirty minutes passed like seconds, you peered down only to find the boy confortably napping against your bosom; at some point you just became the cold side of the pillow to him. That's alright. It brings you joy to be the mom friend anyways. So you decided to join the sleepland aswell, arms still secured around his shoulders and the back of his head.
It feels like the nap hasn't been long, though, because you can feel Itadori's grip loosening and therefore, you're awake.
"Sorry if I broke any bones, in advance."
"Wow, and you only warn me now."
He laughs at your comeback, hands still secured around your waist.
"I'm surprised you let me uh, cuddle you for comfort - and sleep. I don't understand it? You just make me sleepy." He rambled, keeping eye contact with you while his head still rests on your chest.
"That's a piece of cake when you have younger siblings who seek for you every night they get a nightmare."
"Does that mean I can come to you again if I have a nightmare?" There it is, his togepi-kirby cutesy face.
"Are you four?"
"That's mean!" Itadori blushed, squeezing you on his arms. "I like the contact. It puts me at ease."
"Mm, do you want to talk about it?"
He gulped. "No, not really."
Your peach haired friend remained silent, and so did you. It seems he doesn't intend in letting you go soon, or he just really forgot to mention it. It gives them time to think, your younger sisted used to do that sometimes, back in Kyoto.
"Y/N, wanna watch anything?"
"Sure, have you watched Parasyte before?"
"No, let's give it a try then!" Itadori glances at the remote, then back at you - making you confused over his hesitation to move. He notices you noticed it, chuckling nervously. "To be honest, I don't wanna let go."
"It's hurting my back."
"SORRY I'M SORRY!" He jumped away from you like a cat would jolt away from a cucumber, making you snicker.
"It's okay, I just wanted to change positions."
And to tease you, but he didn't need to know that part.
He glared at you with a small pout, typing the initials of Parasyte on the search bar. Outside his line of vision, you were grinning like a idiot, his sweeteness took a tow on you. All the people of Tokyo you met really held a way different spirit from your classmates in Kyoto, Itadori being the nicest of all. It's surprising him being Sukuna's vessel to begin with; being honest, you felt drawn by it.
"Y/N, it's startiiiiing." He cut your daydreaming short, slumping on your side and propping his head on your shoulder.
"This again?" You throw an arm around his shoulders, very much like the first time he cuddled himself on you.
"Don't blame me, you're the one who wanted to change positions. Guess I'll just make some alterations since I'm awake this time!" One of his arms went behind your back and circled your waist, hand resting at your hip.
"It's definely different, since the other time you drooled on me."
"Hhgh, okay okay! Let me enjoy this." For perhaps the actual first time, you're able to watch without exchanging words with one another.
And this time, it's you who's head loll to the side, nose buried on his soft rose perfumed hair. Itadori doesn't comment on it yet, his free hand moves under your legs to lift your whole body up efortlessly when he senses you have fallen asleep.
"I remember you said it's bad for my spine, I wouldn't mind it... yours however."
The boy makes a beeline to the guest room, he sighs when there is no choice but open the door with his foot. Inside, he places you carefully in the soft bed.
Before he could leave, a hand reaches up for his sleeve.
"Itadori," He turned, looking at you. "Make me company?"
He giggles softly - you think it sounds like a highschool girl. "You should start calling me by my first name!" Itadori rambles as he climbs on the bed, arms wrapping around your waist in a motion you're familiar with.
"Yuuji, I'm tired, let me sleep."
"But I wanna talk more..." He pouts. "Also, are we, um, dating?"
You wriggle around, bringing his head down to peck on his forehead, teasing. "Correction, I want to date you."
"Uh, oh." A blush coats his face so quickly, you'd say someone dumped a bucket of red paint on his face.
"Is that a no?"
"No!"
"So it is a no."
"Christ, will you stop teasing for a second, I'm trying to talk here." He makes an angry version of his togepi-kirby face, you can't help but grin.
"You amuse me, but okay. I'll do it for you."
"Thanks." He blinks, the blush slowly fading away. "You know, I lied, not about the contact, I like the contact nonetheless-"
His hand moves to play with yours, such as tapping his tips against yours, or meassuring the palms.
"-it's you who brings me comfort."
It's also your turn to blush, that line was seriously charming.
"Yeah."
"Yeah?"
"Yes, we're dating now." You respond, a little eagerly. "Can I kiss you?"
"Please."
This is the best person I could ask for, Itadori thinks, keeping his eyes open as yours shut during the kiss, whom I won't change for anything else in this world.
When you both separate, Itadori feels drowsy and sleepy. His face fits perfectly on your shoulder as always.
"Goodnight, my favorite person."

___________
You were once human, but you are now one Shang Tsung's beloved pets. Just like an actual pet you will do anything to gain his attention, regardless if it pleases him or not. This is one of those instances:
Shang Tsung walked into your bed chambers with a furrow in his brow. He looked angry...No he looked furious. You knew why he was angry. You were the cause of his anger. "Y/N." He said in an eerily calm voice, as he clenched and unclenched his hands. "Yes, master? Do you need me?" You say as you clench your legs together in some vain attempt to try and stop your arousal. "How many times have I told you not to touch my things? You have no place to do to so...especially," midsentence he pulls out a flask of red liquid that is missing some of its contents, then resumes talking. "If it's something so precious."  You let out a shaky sigh as he approaches you, his scowl deepening as he studied your reactions. "I'm sorry master..." Your E/C began to well with tears. Shang Tsung could tell you were exited, both you and him knew how this was going to go down, but you knew deep down in your heart you were still not going to get type of punishment you wanted. "Get up." He commands and you stand up avoiding eye contact as you approach him. Without another word he turns to leave and you follow behind him. You knew where he was taking you. Shang Tsung lead you down into the flesh pits, making sure to take extra time to get to your designated torture room. This room is where you spent most of your time before you become his pet, but thats beside the point. A familiar wave of fear washed over you as he snapped his fingers and a green pool filled with tentacles appeared. Shang Tsung knew you weren't very fond of the chemicals that the tentacles would produce and just proceeded to shove you in without another thought.
Pain immediately ran throughout your body as you made contact with the squirming appendages. You couldn't move as the tentacles instinctively wrapped around your body immobilizing you. Shang Tsung left without another word leaving you to your demize. You tried to scream at him to come back but a tentacle quickly slipped passed your lips and down your throat. You could barely breathe as you choked on the thick slimy appendage as it plunged in and out of your throat. You began to struggle as your clothes were torn to shreds, there was nothing you could do but struggle...and well enjoy your sweet torture. Yet through all the moans of pleasure and gasps of pain one thought stayed within the back of your mind. "He dosen't love me anymore. I've failed him as a servant." Those same words kept repeating themselves in your mind as you were being penetraded by the tentacles. You hold back your tears of sadness as they threaten to spill over your cheeks, you focus on the pleasure...you try too at least, but they pain of knowing that you've made Shang Tsung deeply upset causes you to loose your composure. Even with a mouth full of tentacles you wept. Even though you enjoyed this type of punishment your tears flowed down your cheeks. Even though you were being filled physically by Shang Tsung's tentacles, you needed to be filled emotionally by his touch. You needed this hole deep down in your heart filled with his praise and affection. You needed him. Violent sobs of distraught wracked your body, unbeknownst to you Shang Tsung was slowly lowering you down and had begun to let you go. You didn't even notice him approaching you until you heard him say your name. You slowly lifted your head to look at him, tears still flowing freely from your watery E/C eyes. "Y/N." Is all he says before you start to violently sob again, while trying to get away from his grasp the best you could. "Y/N look at me." He says while trying to reach for you and you look up at him only to jerk away from him when he reaches out to touch your face. "Don't touch me. I don't-" He cuts you off with a swift slap on the cheek. You reach up to grab your cheek but Shang Tsung grabs your hand. "I will not tolerate this kind of behavior. Tell me what's the matter, now." He's practically glaring at you in disgust, he hated when you were soft,he made sure you knew that but you'd always let your emotions get the better of you. "Master...you don't love me anymore...that's the problem. You don't want to be with me-" Again he interrupts you but this time with a hollow sounding laugh. "I don't want to be with you?" He brings you closer to him. His smell immediately envelops your being and you let out an audible whimper. The feeling of his clothing against your bare body makes your skin crawl with need. "If I didn't want to be with you I wouldn't have made you mine. If I didn't want you then I wouldn't have layed with you so many nights." He says with a tight grip around your waist. "You don't understand, pet. I want you. I want you because no one else would ever want someone like you." You whimper as he traces his fingers along your back, trying to calm your nerves. "I will show you how much I want you." He whispers into your ear before wrapping his hands around your neck.
End.

Before you follow:
Please read through this list before you consider following me:
Please don't feel bad about not following if you're uncomfortable following an adult. I'm 30
Although I am a SFW blog and don't answer NSFW asks or post anything explicit, some of my writing might contain adult content. They are linked out to a03, quotev, etc. and aren't posted here because I know a lot of minors follow me
I'm uncomfortable with self-proclaimed "dark content" blogs following me. It's not something I like and I'm generally critical of that type of content. I can't keep people from following, but know that I do sometimes check who follows me and block them. It's my blog and I can curate it however I see fit
I do not approve of writing any explicit content of the kids AT ALL in any context unless they are significantly and obviously aged up, and even then the "dark content" criticism still applies. Under no circumstances do I agree with shipping a student and canon adult character in any AU or context, ever
I might post character or plot meta or analysis that is outwardly critical of the Hero system and its parallels with modern day cops. I'm anti-cop, anti-capitalism and anti-imperialism. It is possible and expected to enjoy content with a critical eye, and even though I might criticize or break apart many issues with Horikoshi's writing, characterization, or plot points, I still enjoy the series as a whole (even if I may lament its lost potential)
Fiction is in fact tied in and impossible to separate from reality and what we read and the media we consume affects us in one way or another. Know that I don't agree with the "it's just fiction" or "fiction isn't reality" rhetoric that is often used to defend the above-mentioned "dark content". If you disagree with me, you might not have a good time here on my blog
Racist/Homophobic/Transphobic/Islamophobic/Ableist/Trans-exclusionary/Sex-work-exclusionary/Anti-Rroma. If you're fine with oppressing any of the above groups, kindly fuck off. No, people cannot be oppressed for being white
Please know that sometimes people come to me for advice or ask for help in my ask box. Even though I don't mind helping folks, I'm not a therapist or trained professional and sending me heavy or traumatic content without my consent can give me extreme anxiety. I do not feel comfortable participating in "drama" or getting involved in something that isn't my business. However, if I come across something that I think is important for people to know (such as a predator being outed in the fandom or serious harm is being done to irl people), then I may post about it
Even though I'm not a villain stan blog, I do think that the LoV are correct in a lot of their points and their ideas behind breaking down the Hero system which leaves behind the most vulnerable people is something I generally agree with
I strongly dislike Mitsuki (Bakugou's mother) and consider her verbally, emotionally, and physically abusive and manipulative. I'm not a fan of her or her parenting and you won't find me talking positively about her. I am also openly antagonistic towards Endeavor and legitimize the abuse he inflicted upon his entire family for many years. I don't think he deserves any kind of redemption arc. If you're an Endeavor stan or think we should give him a chance, know you won't like it on my blog
There are many popular writers and artists I've blocked over the years for producing content I don't like or think is healthy/I agree with. Again, it's my right and my blog to curate it however I see fit and judge who I want interacting with my posts
My writing schedule is sporadic at the moment and when I update chapters is up to my discretion and free time. I'm an adult with a job, friends, and a partner, so I write when I can but please don't berate me about updating my fics, when I'll write X, etc. I'll get to it when I get to it

you said before that there is more emphasis for 4th gen to do harder dance routines as their performances whereas for 2nd gen they had to be entertaining. and i know brave girls isnt technically 2nd gen but being one of the older groups at mama, gawd was there such a difference in energy. they were so fun!!! this might just be me being old because there was a recent article that pointed out there were a lot of good dancers from 4th gen but no one with star power (as opposed to the previous gens) and netizens were mad, saying that this is something only 2nd gen listeners will say (lol). like i wanna give these newer groups the benefit of the doubt - they're still relatively new and haven't had much experience performing in front of an audience (esp aespa) but idt they will last long enough that they would be able to develop themselves with great (or interesting enough) stage presence. majority of 3rd gen groups didn't make it even though when they disbanded they were at their peaks.
honestly part of it is me being old too, but also it's not like i haven't spent literal years training in performing arts so i'm allowed to have opinions in this instance.
obviously there is a sort of 'golden oldies' rose coloured glasses that second and third gen fans have, because the groups that have stuck around are the ones that had the staying power, and it hasn't been long enough for the fourth gen groups to get whittled down in the same way. i do agree with you that not all of them are gonna be able to hack it because truly, there isn't as much innovation in presence and power as younger fans think there is. and that article is right, fourth gen is lacking in people with real star power. and i know i've said this a lot before too, but star power absolutely requires training. to be good on variety and good at being an entertainer is a skill, and when these companies are running their idols like overworked racehorses just for dance training, who's got the time to teach them how to be good variety guests? and with the whole 'authentic' content thing, groups can just produce their own shows for youtube or for vlive and never actually have to set foot on a studio set where they actually gotta be funny or they'll get cut out of broadcast. vlives and ig lives and company produced youtube contents are great and really fun, but with the way that kpoppies are built nowadays, there's almost NO stakes with this type of content. idols probably still feel the pressure that they have to be entertaining but there's always gonna be that core base that will gas up anything they do regardless of how actually good it is. it's the whole thing i talked about with skz and kingdom; if you don't let things flop, artists have no way of tangibly improving because they don't know that they're doing anything wrong. and improvment comes from failure.
another take that's probably nuclear grade but i don't care at this point: artist and celebrity are mutually exclusive. if someone is deeply dedicated to being an artist, of any kind, they are not interested in being a celebrity. they may be fine with being a celebrity by proxy, but they are never doing the work in pursuit of the fame, they are doing the work for the sake of the art. take dance, for example. there are very few celebrity or famous dancers that are actually considered top of their fields. or contemporary artists; many of them actively balk social media. most truly good actors are deeply weird people and/or 'ugly' and would never make it into the hollywood sphere. i think people have generally forgotten because of his ubiquity and impact on the industy, but taemin was notorious for being horrible on variety shows. and honestly he still is; he's a weird gremlin who does and says weird shit constantly and has a very clear boundary of what people are allowed to see of his life, which is nothing. there are some idols that are good celebrities and good artists, but it's like one of those triangles where you can only pick two; you have to sacrifice on something. key is an excellent artist and a great variety star; is he as good a dancer as taemin is? no, but that's fine. that's not the type of artist he is, he's not interested in pushing the limits of his dance abilties, he keeps them sharp because they are a tool in which to help him achieve his other goals. but with these fourth gens, fans have inflated ideas of what their idols are capable of, because they're expecting them to be master of all trades, when the actual saying is 'jack of all trades, master of none'.
#kpop questions#god i feel like im repeating myself over and over again screaming ITS OK FOR IDOLS TO BE NOT GOOD AT THINGS#everybody has different skills!!! there's a reason why perfomance is collaborative!!!!#i wanna beat this into kpoppies heads SO bad#this is not me condoning the practices of variety because holy shit it was SO awful to idols for SO long#but sometimes the best way to learn is to run the fucking gauntlet#tbh imo key uses his celebrity AS an artistic tool but also he's absolutely an outlier and there's very very few people that are doing this#like off the top of my head? damian hirst? maybe banksy? it's a very difficult line to walk and a lot of people are not successful at it#like maaaaaaaaybe kanye but also that's got a whole other part to it#extremely unpopular opinion damian hirst is actually one of my favourite artists#i respect him and absolutely do not respect him at the same time. its complicated#taemin meta#key w#text#answers#TBH this is also probably a hot take but like.......some of these fourth gen boys are gonna burn themselves out#trying to be the next taemin or kai when the reality is that they wont ever get there. but then they also wont have any other skills#because of the way that companies are training them#like kai and taemin both managed to get entertaining but it took YEARS for the both of them and it only happened#bc their groups were insanely popular and cemented themselves as industry staples. they basically had no option to be off camera#and even then theyre still very weird people#honestly my hottest take of this is that i don't actually care if idols are good dancers. i would rather them be good performers#theyre never going to reach the level of a professional dancer and that's fine. focus on the thing that makes your industry unique babes#this is my thing about enhypen. like yes their choreo is good but like. name me a single one of them. who are they#like the choreo for drunk dazed is good!! but its SO boring to watch!!!!#ok im done ranting i think. well probably not but i should stop

~ Mass Update ~
Tumblr media
Mainly going into future plans and intents alongside ideas below cut.
Ton's of things I've in store this will prove difficult to vent it all out. But here we go... First off rehashing and appropriately learning to tag and organize things better on my blog. Each category will have their own corresponding content, I seek to bring or share. [Tales of Goldbrand] -- I intend this to carry a Compendium of all my writes soon that'll have everything neatly in-order including a glossary, so it'll have highlights of stories that even matter or the best stuff. I've written here for a very, long time, there's been many shifts. I want to make it more accessible. While coloring what matters for people who want to learn Captain or his Crew with less chapters. While also giving choice to find it all easily. This is essentially a step-above master-lists. I'll be doing that after the Saga I have going on, right now is done. [Captain] -- Will provide you strictly with Captain screenshots, gifs, photo-sets. This is still his blog despite the Crew thing's will sort of make this a scuffed Multi-Muse blog. I've few more things to edit and tag fix to get all his stuff though. [The Wild Crew] -- Afterwards this story is done Immortal Age Saga, It's something that I mainly wrote as a passion project within three days to get my warm-up process fixed. It's to allow me to get a feel for all his Crewmates and casts, in combat, in-general, to feel their presences. While also giving a bit of their backstories. At any point, I can go back and polish or tweak things in. They're NPC's but... not entirely. All will have their own 'Dreams' and their own 'Disapproval's' they have their own missions even. These things will factor eventually, they might set seeds, to betray or disagree with something, but that's all angst and more stories to be created, but overall, they'll probably always be Crew, eventually. -- I plan on making character-profile sheets of them and putting them in this Tab, it'll have their screenshots, their likes/dislikes. Some RP partners or people can also be shipped with them, but they'll all be monogamous and originally start off probably Pan. This allows them to figure out what they like on their own stories. I've always been someone who likes organic-flow. Although this one story contain all 16 characters or more, the rest will probably be shortened to a Squad of 4 and dispersed when on adventuring missions. Until I do a War Arc, that's my main goal to build too. [Roster] -- Will contain this Crew in just screen-sets dedicated to them, I'll probably randomly produce those. I've PC players among this Crew too. I may not be done either adding more, but this Crew is mainly built around Quality. Most pirate crew's mainly, have hundreds, thousands. Even Fleets. This Crew has personalities, monsters, people who are living life's that exist with piracy. He's an particular leader that had PC players the same way, he's had split-personality serial killers aboard, tribal chieftains, succubus, all sorts of various people once on a Crew. It's often an outcast style, pirates default are chaotic in nature, so this really isn't any different, it's a Fantasy version of it. There's humanization characters aboard too though, so this cast is really decked, everything and person is vital, they matter because they remind or covet something that others can draw upon. If ever played (Three Houses or Mass Effect / Dragon Age Origins) A lot of things like that are relatable too this structure and format. Which, Is something I want to be able to give when RPing. I want a genuine feel of this new world someone else's muse will be the main-character too. Depending on what's interacting everything they'll be scale appropriately to follow the genre they're in and environment even. [Aesthetics] -- Already explainable what you'll find here. [Asks] -- Same thing. [Prompts] -- Trivial things I was tagged too, I plan on compiling later. [Writing] -- Another alternatively to randomly go-down and it works right now. [Logs] -- Will have more individualistic master-lists and posts there, my poems from Sheik Sphere the Bard, etc.
Things of that nature, I'll probably add still. It's where a lot of my creative writing is summed. [Gems of Hydaelyn] -- My main #tag for other characters and artists, creationist. Lot of amazing people easily to find their zones or follow them optionally if you like. Ton's I intend to support and bolster, be a lot less unspoken. I'm never the type who's been strictly inclusive. But I'll do that when I've time to even explore the dash, I'm always still planning ahead with things and projects. [CKS] My original character-sheet it's outdated on something's but not too terrible. I'll give him polishing someday, I swear? [21+F-List] -- Just purely degenerate stuff of Captain. I'm a pirate blog. I will represent that with openness and furthermore. I'm never projecting you some false-image. I started off a smut-writer by stripping that, I no-longer represent the same aura and identity. But those are strictly his stuff and kinks, I'm effective in executing them but they're not all relatable to me OOC. This blog will always be 18+ containing crude or dark material sometimes, romantic things, this Captain is blunt, will literally put his cock on the table in conversations. Swearing and being censored would be too uncommon and displace most of him, but there's more about him then all this. [Other] -- I pay homage to a lot of characters, I originally am a Concept Designer. Which mean's I make characters and ideas like my addiction. Bad characters / villains or other little things I like to share in designs, I'll put there. Some villains might get little photo-sets, even if they died. Just cause I like their design, or maybe I'll give them an AU, where they won. When I've wrapped up things. [Collabs + Ships] -- Is a new project idea. This isn't going to be something limited too romantic only ships. It'll contain, platonic, romantic, friendships, rivals, frenemies, family, PC Crew, all ships. I am desperately working on improving my gif, screenshot, posing game so I can supply 'Screen Stories' this is not only a way to RP that's accessible with even people who are upon time-crunches from work, It gives visual-representation. To impactful stories shared with others and establish bonds. That are all-valid and impactful matter. Lot of people take a lot of their characters attributes into them and are them dialed up, I work with that and bit more, differently. I'm disconnected from my characters and they'll get hurt and injured and killed by me, that's my duty as their Author to give them conflicts and struggles. I'm their major antagonist, but that doesn't mean at-all, it's always SET that way. The characters I like to make have their own life, they live in this setting and are abide by it, they're often nothing, nobodies, and by the interacting with others, they slowly gradually building, more... Through emotional impacts, they alter, these are REAL people by all their beliefs. Each person they come in-contact with are legitimate and treated like that too. They've always impacted or given them insights to grow, or represent more. Otherwise it'd be criminally disrespectful if I allowed any emotional I felt OOC be the grudge to something IC. Captain in-particular is set on defying me. I cannot have that. ...But I can't stop him. He's met and encountered so many people and lived so many scenarios based on the actions of others, he's giving a chance right now to actually do things a lot further than impossible. The more people he meets and encounters, experiences, the more I lose. These stories are emotionally interactive where everything is a factor and adds to the dice, where the other people are the one who get to roll the dice for him, not me. That's something I want to color in. People range in emotions, they have their down's, ups, their own wholesome-grounding people, spending time with your favorite people, there's nothing more cherishing than that, being in your own comfort-zone or 'safe-space' these are all treasures that we live under, today. Contrary if what people assume of me, I'm not another 'blogger' that's came
before, who's wanting to force a harem, then constantly is bewildered when that falls to pieces cause of selfishness or a lack of communication, or the skeletons they have in their closets and beliefs they hid behind and swindled fooled everyone. I'm not looking to be popular or anything really, I just create stories and want to share in those, and I want to also boost others included, upward with me, especially those who make me. There's no ego in anything I do, this is purely love. I've never cared about being replicated or duplicated, I've had stalkers, I've gone through more then anyone would imagine, I've been used OOC and abused, just for my writing and cold-harshly told, i'd never amount to anything other then that or vice-versa. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Passion. That's all I got and am anymore. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Passion is the hardest thing to keep. It's something that can be stolen, quite effortlessly. Few words of discouragement, a bad negative representation, a lack of confidence, or small amount of time, there's many thing's that can put that flame out. Once you lose it. The difficulty to reattain is hundred-times harder than climbing any mountain for real. I've watched the greatest creators crumble from under the pressure, from beaten down by others. I watched many of them do it to themselves because they put a grand vision of needing validation of another and once lost, felt uncompelling to press onward. But passion also can be given BACK and drawn. It can be shown and encourage others, with a soft-triggering, that pushes them. That motivates, that constantly sticks to it. There are many that fuel me. If I ever quit, I let them down, I spit in the faces of people who're better than me in every-way. Or people who've came and given me their precious Time. That have given their character's or dedication to the abundant stories and community-driven things I've done. There's ONLY things you can do, create, give and provide. It cannot ever come to life without YOU. This is a fact. ...I swear, If you let your creativity soar, you'll be amazed by the heights you get. Constantly polish and learn and hone the best you, challenge yourself day after painstaking day, to draw better improvement on something, no matter how trivial or unfamiliar you are. You'll find a confidence only you can give yourself. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Future Plans --------------------------------------------------------------------- For me, I've got so much more stories to give and also explore, I might be taking up soon some other artists and more skilled people from community and hire them for some of my future writes, to up my game or cause something thing's can't be done in-game cause no background carries it. I also got a lot of-set up things and more angst stuff I want to practice, plus I'm adamantly on that grind to produce screen-sets with the intent's to some sort of improving daily. Additionally more people I'll be reaching out too soon for these collab's ideas and things. I look forward to shaking your hands, giving some hugs, show you my respect and admiration, then creating some enchanting stories and giving plots light. Feel free to reach out to me, I get scattered-brain but I'm working on getting better about it. Eventually will get to you though, my goals, if uninterested just say so when I poke, no bites, unless you kinky. Anyways, cheers hearties.

Hi Pat! How are you?
I wanted to get input from some of the reader insert writers on tumblr on something and I hope you can help.
So as a community that has fully adopted that trigger warnings are good and needed on writings that require them, I was wanting to know if you (as a writer) think it would be ok for me (the reader) to ask a writer to label a piece of theirs with a trigger warning of "fluff -> angst".
Let me give some context, I feel that it's kinda needed. So I'm the type of person who gets super invested in anything I read, especially reader insert since that's kind of the point. But sometimes its to my own detriment because I can ruminate on something for a long time that will affect me emotionally. Now while yes I fully agree that's my own personal issue and I need to police myself, I do. I refuse to read anything labeled "angst/pure angst/hurt no comfort", because I know emotionally it would affect me terribly. However, if it has fluff as a TW that typically alludes to angst being in the beginning or middle and fluff at the end, basically I will read angst so long as it has a happy ending; but I won't read pure angst for my own safety.
So I read a one-shot a few weeks ago with separate TW of fluff and angst and naturally assumed it was angst in the beginning and fluff at the end which is ok for me to read. But it wasn't, it was fluff in the beginning and angst at the end. As I said I read it weeks ago and I'm still hung up over it, and I know that if it was labeled "fluff -> angst" I wouldn't have read it. So I thought about asking the writer to relabel it because I doubt I'm the only person like this and it could be helpful for others but part of me also feels as if asking them is idk petty? Or I think the writer might be uncomfortable or feel attacked by my request. I just feel like asking for a relabel when they already have "angst" as a TW would be rude and labeling as "fluff -> angst" would reveal to readers the ending without having to read the whole thing.
So basically do you personally think it would be ok to request a writer to relabel a TW to read as "fluff -> angst"?
Hi anon! (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
oooh and mhmm 🤔 if u ask me, especially in cases like yours, it would definitely be helpful to have the tags that may hint on such things. such a tags does exist after all in ao3 and i dont see why it shouldnt be integrated here when needed. it also helps if the angst degree is placed like would it be mild angst, just hints of it, or would it be heavy.
but the thing is, it usually depends on who is writing if they consider such content to be merely mild or heavy. cause it would def vary from person to person. one might see it would just be light angst, but for others it is def a big deal of some sorts. it'll def be a challenge, that i can say.
and now on the topic of asking the writer to place the tag. perhaps if you ask them nicely, im sure they will cater to your request. however, as u pointed out, the element of surprise might be compromised or the tag "angst" is already there, so that is indeed a hurdle in this endeavor. i guess it'll def be up to the writer to label it, because i've seen most write such stuff and say in the tags that there won't be a happy ending at all or it is an open end but leaning more onto a sad aspect of it.
in short i'm sure there won't be a harm in requesting, just ask nicely. plus i'm sure the author isn't aware or hasn't seen this side of the spectrum. it's no one's fault tho. even i myself have to ask a couple of people if i should put certain stuff in the tags because i'm unsure. i guess it'll be nice to help out one another, like consumer to the producer. like a feedback bc im sure there are readers like you out there who have experienced this too. but if the writer doesn't feel comfortable in doing so, then we should respect that.
i do hope i gave u a good answer 😭

So, I don't usually do these, because I always felt that shipping oc's with characters from other fan works was socially frowned upon, but since I've been seeing a few of these around, I'll give it a shot. My OC shipped with Auron.
Auron x Texas.
Yes, Auron's current partner in crime, rather he'd liked to admit it or not. Their meeting was rather... comedic. Auron didn't really notice his co worker until he accidentally rested the elbow of his sheifed arm on her head. She was very short, Her height being 4'8. He looked down to find a short, albino girl with wolf ears, and a tail. The whole package. Everything else looked human, she just had a few furry parts to her. Another key thing about her is that she always came off as the, "edgy" type, for her preference in black lipstick, and eyeliner. When he did get to know her, Auron has always found her annoyingly chipper, and overly friendly. The two attended a funeral together once, and she wouldn't stop smiling. Seriously. How does someone smile that much at a funeral??? Auron asked her about it.
Her response: Usually when people die, they don't want people to mourn over them, there for I choose not to mourn.
She wasn't entirely wrong, speaking from his own experiences, however it wasn't exactly the majority opinion, as Auron had to keep the wife of the dead man from trying to punch Tex in the face. Tex was almost always very clingy in the irritating and physical sense. She liked hugging a lot. She would hug Auron everytime she'd see him, and it usually would last 5 minutes before he would have to eventually pull her off. As time went on, and they grew closer, Auron started to notice that something was very wrong with Texas. Her extremely chipper personality was used to hide some dark, twisted thoughts, feelings, and even experiences. He came to this realization when he went to visit her one night, and she didn't answer her door. She lived in a dormitory like area, where there was the bedroom, and then a small room next to it that was a kitchen, and the bathroom being against the the smaller side of the rectangular kitchen. It was a nice little place for someone who likes living alone, but it had its downsides, like paper thin walls. You could hear the inhabitants, and they most likely can hear you as well. After a minute or two of waiting, just as he turned to leave, Auron was startled by the sound of soft, female sobbing, coming from Tex's dorm. He knew for a fact that if Tex was crying, which he had never actually seen her do, something was horribly wrong. He immediately opened the door to find a mess waiting for him. Texas sat their curled up in a ball, hands grabbing at her hair and pulling, make up smeared, wrists bleeding from self inflicted bites. Scattered around her were drawings of morbid, violent, and just horrid depictions, along with words scribbled over them along the lines of, "Worthless", "Dead", "No Future", "I'm nothing." A common sign of depression. If there was one thing Auron always knew about Tex is that she had a talent for art. She did this thing that she called a web comic. Auron, not really being kept up in technology, never really knowing what it was, let alone reading it, thought nothing of it, but he had seen her art, and it was phenomenal. It really opened his eyes to what she truly was when he saw that beauty and talent turned into something so ugly and self degrading. When Tex finally noticed him, her reaction was just to try to hide herself in the comfort of her knees. Auron began snooping around, and grabbing rags, then pried Tex's hands from her head, and wrapped her wrist.
Auron: Moron. What were you thinking???
Texas: ...
Auron pulled her into an embrace, still holding the rags to her wrist.
Auron: Would you like to talk about why you bit yourself up like this? Or the sketches for that matter?
Texas: I-I don't know what to do! My art! My comic! I- the deadline to get chapter 9 out is tomorrow, and I thought I could just push through it in a day with enough effort, but I don't even have content! I don't have a script! I have no story, no art for chapter 9! I'm a fuck up! I'm stupid! I'm nothing! I-... I'm so sorry... you shouldn't have had to see me like this...
Auron: It's fine. You're human after all. I expect you to have emotions, breaking points. As for your problems. Tex, the comic is just a for fun thing, right?
Texas: Yeah...
Auron: Great. Take some time off until you get over your writer's block. The timely fashion of updates doesn't matter, the quality does. If you can't produce anything good, then step back and take a break. It's obvious that it's affecting your mental health. This will make you hate what you do, so step back from it. Take a break.
Texas: You're right, I've just... meh.
Auron: Don't be afraid to show your emotions around me. It shows me that you are human.
That night, Auron didn't leave Tex's side, mainly out of fear for what she might do when she's alone. This opened a pathway for future sleep overs. Auron didn't share his bed with many, but with Tex, it had become routine, and he didn't mind. He actually liked the cuddles. A few months later, he receives a message from Tex. That night, she wasn't with him, she decided to stay at her place to do some cleaning.
Message received at 1:23 am:
Texas: Hey. Are you awake?
Auron: I wasn't until you woke me. -_-
Texas: Oh sorry. I forgot that your ringtone is up all the way usually... I'm sorry. XD
Auron: This better be important if it warrants you texting me at one in the morning...
Texas:...
Auron: It's not that important, is it?
Texas: ... No comment...
Auron: Tex...
Texas: I'll leave you alone then.
Auron: Why do you do this!? Spit it out! I'm already awake!
Texas: Are you sure? It can wait until tomorrow.
Auron: Tex. Spit. It. Out...
Texas: I can't! You're making me nervous!XI
Auron: Why would you be nervous?
Texas: Because it's kinda personal...
Auron: Okay. Pretend I'm not here. Say what you have to say.
Texas: ... that is so unaffective when I'm staring directly at that message...
Auron: Point taken. Just tell me.
Texas: Okaaaaay! ...
The icon at the bottom that says that Tex is typing stays that way for 5 minutes.
Auron: So?
Texas: Okay. Here goes nothing. And when I say that, I mean here goes everything I could possibly hold dear in my life. XD
Auron: Are you going to say what I think you're going to say?
Texas: I would really really really REALLY like to punch you in the face!
Auron: Okay, that's not where I thought you were going with this.
Texas: With my face, gently... I Love you! You are amazing, and wise, and sweet, even when you hide it under your protective layers! I simply love you. End of story. And I was wondering if you would allow me to take you out to dinner! I'm going to go cry now, because I feel like I'm dying XD
Auron: I stand corrected...
Auron: O//_//O...
Auron: No.
Texas: No?
Auron: No.
Texas: Okay then... What? No reason why? Like I'm cool with it, if you don't like me like that, but still. At least give me a reason...
Auron: Okay. I'll tell you exactly why. Yeah. I like you. I think you're cute. However, I don't appreciate you waking me up at 1 in the morning to text me with a confession. You want a relationship? Fine, but take initiative and tell me to my face. Quit being a coward. -_-
Texas: Ouch. My feel goods. Anyways, I guess I'll talk to you tomorrow man. Sorry about this...
Auron: It's fine :) Sleep well, Tex.
Texas: You too bro <3
After Auron and Tex finish messaging each other, Auron goes back to sleep. The next day is pretty amusing. Auron waits for his partner. Half expecting she hopes to forget about the previous night. Auron hears running behind him, and turns to find Tex in a suit and tie running up to hi., screaming, "I love you, you sexy, sexy son of a gun!" She knocks his feet out from under him, and steals a very, very passionate kiss, but soon afterwards, causing Auron and Tex both to fall over to the ground. Because her tiny frame is too much for his bigger, heavier frame. Luckily Texas's arm was under Auron's head when they fell, so no brain damage was caused to the older male. Texas turns to Auron, half expected to be heated, and she wasn't wrong, just heated in a different sense. Auron's face was bright red, slight tears to his eyes, he bursts out laughing, black lipstick smeared on his lips.
Texas: What? You told me to take initiative!
His laughter fades to a light chuckle, and then he stops.
Auron: Wow. That was... cheesy.
Texas: Also clearly failed...
Auron: (Still catching his breath.) No it didn't.
Texas: So it actually worked!?!? YAY!
Auron: Just don't do that again. You took us both out in the process.
Auron pulls Tex into his lap, and the two share a proper kiss.
Auron: See. That in of it's self is enough for me.
Texas: Yeah, but it wouldn't be a confession from me if it wasn't stupidly cheesy and didn't make you smile.
Auron: It's missing something though.
Texas: And that is?
Auron: The amazing pick up line from last night.
Texas: Ah yes, you have good taste, my kind, gentle sir. I would really.
Auron: Yes?
Texas: Really.
Auron: Go on.
Texas: Really.
Auron:...
Texas: Really!
Auron: Hopefully this is the last, "Really."
Texas: Like to punch you in the face. With my face gently, romantically, and in other places besides your face.
Auron: Okay. Okay. Calm down. We haven't even had dinner yet...
Texas: Exactly. Dinner.
Auron is very flustered at his now girlfriend's sense of humor. Safe to say, they had a very romantic evening together. ;3
This is my contribution to OC x Fan work Characters. Hope you enjoyed!

Another Stab 1
Did I say Monday? Everyone took July 5th off, so clearly I meant Tuesday. (Are they buying it?)
Anyway, welcome back! Boy do I have some new things to share. Like I said, I pre-wrote some copy for today, and I'll get to that content later (probably tomorrow, as I feel a deluge of words brewing in my brain that may not leave enough room in today's post).
Right now, I want to talk about a few MORE stabs in the gut Wizards of the Coast delivered to me in the form of printing card designs I was hoping to shock the world with.
You see, as I type, Modern Horizons 2 is out and Forgotten Realms spoiler season is in full swing. Somehow, despite my increased security, WotC's spies have managed to steal my thoughts and ideas right out of my workshop. Again. (This is off the cuff, so forgive me if I rant about something I forgot or didn't notice later.)
The first one that comes to mind is tokens. Not the idea of tokens, but the idea of using token as a classification much in the way nontoken has become common parlance.
Tumblr media
iYou can't know this, but I was going to have a handful of cards that referred to tokens like this. Not token creatures or specific types of tokens. Just "tokens". To be fair, there are just a couple of cards that refer to tokens without specifying types. Nadier, Nadier's Nightblade and Idol of Oblivion are all from Commander products, and one could argue a case for Brudiclad from Double Masters, but there was never a full theme until now. Bummer.
-----
Next up is a related thing. I've decided to use Gold tokens instead of Treasure both because it's a classic trope for villains to covet and/or counterfeit precious metals and also because of REDACTED. The two are similar, but different as one need not tap Gold to sacrifice it. As time goes on, though and I'm seeing Treasure becoming more and more of an evergreen "mechanic", I'm beginning to be willing to budge on this front and have my sets create Treasures instead of Gold.
Similar to the Treasure/Gold thing, I was thinking of creating a designed-to-become-ubiquitous token type that didn't have the same mystery aspect attached to it for Clues. I was thinking I could create Books. Heroes & Villains has a mystery subtheme, so Books don't fit into the current project, but someday I will add Books to Food, and Treasure (as well as a couple more I came up with) as recurring "common item" token types.
All of this leads to the fact that one of my keyword abilities (one I haven't exactly showcased fully, so here's some actual new H&V content) is "Profit". Profit is a keyword action that has gone through several iterations, but the most "popular" versions involves the player creating their choice of a Food, a Clue or two* Gold tokens.** And apparently, Wizards also likes the idea of bringing these token types together.
Tumblr media
There are a couple of other cards in Modern Horizons 2 that bring together Clues, Food and Treasure as a combined "thing".
Well, well. I guess I was right. Today's entry was not scripted, and I managed to fill space without even ranting about all the times Wizards has stepped on my toes between MH2, Strixhaven and Forgotten Realms. Today's title was supposed to refer to me taking "another stab" at keeping up with this blog and/or taking "another stab" at H&V Part 1: Crimeworld since I have had new revelations for design. But it works just fine as a reference to being "stabbed in the back" again by having my ideas usurped.
Next Time: I complain about more cards I couldn't have seen coming.
* I'm thinking this should probably be just one mana producing token.
** Or Books and Treasures. The original original version's reminder text was "To profit, draw a card, gain 4 life or put a +1/+1 counter on a creature you control." That version still appeals to me, but at this point, I'm afraid it's partially nostalgia.

The Local Shooter Vs. Snick Foley
Tumblr media
(LS) Hello welcome, and thank you for being part of a great come up, for the people who don’t know can you introduce yourself, what do you do and where are you from?
(SF) OMG thanks for having me guys! Nah all joking aside, I'm happy to be apart of this and appreciate the opportunity. For those who don't know me, I'm SNICK Foley; a rapper out of NYC by way of Far Rockaway in Queens. I've gone by other names in the past so some people know me as Stacks and the like, but we'll be here all day breaking down all the personas.
(LS) Being from New York I’m sure it wasn’t hard for you to find your influences but who were some main artist you grew up listening to?
(SF) Wow it's hard to narrow it down. I listened to alot of different artists from alot of different genres growing up because I always enjoyed looking into different techniques, stories, points of views and just general sounds. I think all of that plays a major role in my music because there's little nods and elements from all over that got embedded over time. Obviously I gravitated mostly towards hip hop and was a huge fan of acts like A Tribe Called Quest, Wu-Tang, Outkast, Eminem, Nas, Kendrick, and DMX. I'm leaving out alot of people because there's just so many talented people I grew up on. For instance I didn't even mention Wayne or DOOM but DMX is definitely the most important musical influence to me. He not only mixed raw energy and emotion with his lyrics so his personality always shined through, but if you listened to one his albums there was so much variety in the styles throughout. You never got bored. There would be the slow bar heavy song, the fast paced party song, the love song, the personal song about what he was going through; it showed me that you don't have to just do one thing as a rapper and you can do whatever you’re feeling.
(LS) One of your tracks from “Sad Villain Noises” was recently played on the Kush America stream, what was the whole process behind that project?
(SF) Yeah that was "Nature Boy". Big shoutout to the whole Kush America family btw. Sad Villain Noises came together as just a quick collaborative effort between me and the homie KMY; incredible producer out in London. We had worked before in the past and had been talking for a while about doing a Madvillainy type of project where he provided all the beats and I provided all the vocals. He has a very distinct and unique style of beat making, as do I with rapping so we felt it provided something different than what you usually hear but isnt pigeonholed into any particular subgenre of hip hop. The whole project is only 7 songs over 15 minutes because it was more of a quick little sample of what we have planned. If you listening closely and in order there's a short story in there but we tried to make it so all the tracks could stand on their own.
Tumblr media
(LS) How has being a artist in the New York underground scene been for you? Friendly competition or do you find it hard to interact with other local artist? Do you go out of your borough to seek more talent?
(SF) It's case by case really. NYC has long standing reputation of being cut throat and grimey so I'd be fronting if I said there aren't some difficulties in forming relationships with everyone. There's like 9 million people so it takes alot to stand out in that ocean and it breeds a certain isolationist mentality. That's a fact. That being said, I've still worked with some really talented artists out of NYC and I'm always about helping and growing with people from the city. There might be alot of competition between all of us but at the end of the day it's all love between people tryna make money in an occupation we all have a deep passion for. So I'm always gonna show love to my city and everyone from it. I always try to put on for NYC and represent it proudly whenever possible.
(LS) We see you posted an unofficial video on YouTube for AC-130, when are you thinking of doing an official video or even more visuals at that?
(SF) Yeah that was just a quick little placeholder while the actual video is in the works. I'm planning to do alot of visuals for the stuff that's already out and some things on the way. To bring it back, I know alot of dope videographers and directors based out of NYC and we have stuff either in post, or coming real soon so stay tuned on that.
(LS) As far as music what’s your main goal? Are you looking to to be eventually signed or are hoping to make it as a independent artist?
(SF) Personally I would prefer to stay independent. I was big early punk rock fan so the DIY do it yourself mentality is something I strongly adhere to. That's not to say the idea of getting signed doesn't have its merits and is worth looking into, but I'm more of the mindset to keep full control over the art. The goal is the just to make dope music. I think alot of people in pursuit of the money forget what they get into music for; which at the end of the day is just to express yourself. That's not to say don't get paid and try to maximize your profits cause that's dumb, but the whole joy of art is the fact you can get paid for your thoughts. Something you create. I'd be lying if I said one of my goals wasn't to be remembered as one of the greats tho. I put alot of work into continuously growing as an artist and the same way I was listing influences earlier, I don't know if there would be anything cooler than 20 years from now some kid naming theirs and drop SNICK Foley on their list.
Tumblr media
(LS) Being On many major platforms and having a couple projects plus singles what’s the next plan, are you currently working on another tape or are you sitting on your recent drop hoping it gets a bit more buzz?
(SF) Nah I'm never just gonna sit. I try to stay working and evolving so there's always something new as far as music in the works. I'll let the buzz happen organically but I'm focused on continuing to drop music people enjoy listening to and I enjoy making. You're never done growing and there's always a new story to tell.
(LS) are you looking at touring anytime soon, and shows you having coming up where fans can build a personal connection with you?
(SF) Yeah that's definitely in the works. As more music rolls out there's gonna be more on that because as of now I'm keeping alot of that close to the hip. But most definitely there's shows upcoming for everyone to pull up to and come vibe with me. Stay tuned on that as well.
(LS) What’s your take on the NY music scene right now? With influences like Pop, Casanova, and the whole A$AP is there a specific direction you think it’s going in or is it open field?
(SF) First and foremost R.I.P Pop. It's crazy how many people we lose in hip hop before they get to fully reach their potential and hit their stride. As far as NY music goes, I think it's an open field. There's alot of really talented artists in the Apple with their own unique sound and I think it's a great look for the city and the culture as a whole. You had guys like Pop doing his own drill type of stuff, Dave East does his own thing, Young MA has her own thing, Beast Coast has their own thing, ASAP does their own thing and etc. I think NY in recent years has got too caught up in rekindling and defining a "NY sound" that they've gotten away from just making their own stuff. I think it's better when there's variety in the content so you have a large pool to choose from. I think everyone can exist in their own lane and collectively that's what the NY sound is.
(LS) Thank you again for being apart of a great come up and until next time is there anything we should be on the look out for this 2020? Any links you wanna add so new and old fans can reach your and listen to your work?
(SF) Again appreciate the opportunity. There's shows, videos, and music on the way this spring and there's BIG plans for this summer. You can listen to "25th and Seagirt" and some throwaways on soundcloud and "*sad villain noises* on Spotify, apple music and all other streaming platforms. All love to everyone that rocks with me and is on this road with me. I'm Snick Foley on all music platforms and on instagram @holdmysnick. I'm on Twitter as @snickfoleybb but I forget I have it most of time.

hey unnie-bee i was just reading your etiquette post and was curious if something i tend to do.. uhh... a lot, counts under "1. MOAR PLZ!!" ... I often write something along the lines of "excited to see more of your work!" or "can't wait for a sequel!" (generally always among other comments) trying to keep in mind all of your points (I've read this before.) Just wondering, in your opinion, if this feels the same as "type, monkey, type" bc then i just won't do it anymore!
this is a complex question actually!  and i struggle with it myself when i’m leaving comments on other writers’ stuff, because instinctively it feels like it should be a good thing to say, and of course if you like someone’s stuff you’re going to want more.
A few things that might help to clarify this point:
“Excited to see more of your work!” is likely to be better received than “can’t wait for a sequel!” because it comes off less presumptuous/demanding.
Interjecting a comment about wanting more is going to be better received if you also are commenting about what you liked about THIS work (which it sounds like you are doing.)  The WORST are comments that are only some variation on “when will I get more content to consume?” without providing any other feedback on the content that has already been produced.  That isn’t a compliment, it’s a demand.
With that said, most writers would FAR rather hear about your feelings on THIS piece than your excitement for another, hypothetical piece, so do consider leaving that part out.
As a general rule - though this is NOT always true! - more experienced, more well-known, and more prolific authors have a much bigger beef with the “sequel plz!” type comments.  Newer or less experienced writers are more likely to find it encouraging rather than discouraging.  But again, you’re helping the writer more by pointing out what you liked about what you read, rather than looking towards something that may never come to be.
Some options for similarly effusive but less demanding comments:
I’m going to turn on notifications for you/bookmark this page/subscribe to you/follow you on twitter!
This was so good, I think I need to go read your other works now!
Brb going to recommend this to EVERYONE I KNOW
I’m so curious about {insert specific unfinished plot thread here}, I like to imagine that {insert your possible headcanon about that thing here}!  NOTE: if you’re lucky, this one will start a conversation with the author that may get you some more content, if informally.  Authors LOVE talking about readers’ headcanons.
I hope this helps!
