I loved you as
Icarus loved
The sun-
Too close
Too much...

Maybe...
Maybe Icarus wanted to fall. Maybe he wanted to graze Apollo's light and Poseiden's deepest sand. Maybe Icarus smiled when he felt Apollo burn his wings. Maybe Icarus laughed when he felt the wind whipped through his broken wings and the salty sea cooled the scorching wax. Maybe Icarus wanted to be free, to leave the steel cage. Maybe he was a young boy high on delight and fear, maniacal laughter leaving his lips. For who could say they had touched the edge of Apollo's garments and seen the bottom of Poseiden's palace...

Rise and fall aesthetic.
“Il poeta, bramando di contemplare in ogni cosa il divino e realmente contemplandolo, rinunzia anche al proprio io, ma al contempo coglie l'immanenza del divino nel suo interno così ampliato e liberato. [...] Questo essere penetrati dal divino e questa vita beata e piena di ebbrezza in Dio sfiora già il misticismo”.
— Georg W.F. Hegel, Lezioni di estetica (1835-38)

“Too close to the sun”
Icarus, blinded by devotion
Icarus, swept up in ambition
Icarus, warned not to fly too low
Icarus, who flew too close to the sun
Apollo, watching those who are faithful
Apollo, watching the wax melt his wings
Apollo, watching him fall to his fate
Apollo, who picks him up after he falls
Holds him immortal in the sky
For all to see

"If I were brave enough to be a fool I would allow you to warp me in whatever form you wish. But darling I was a rationalist, lest I welcomed love as my demise like how Icarus pursued the sun.
©Draper, H. (1898). The Lament for Icarus
To compare my love to Icarus would be fruitless and akin to plastering my face in shame. And perhaps, I simply cannot love you as much... Because my fear is bigger than my heart."
©René Milot. The fall of Icarus.

"Her smile is like fire the way it blazes me to the ground, I could fall so deep into her that I could drown in the flames or burn away.. but when she says my name, I fall into space and slowly drift away to burn in the sun.. and just like Icarus, I am done before I begun."
Icarus was an idiot, why go to the sun when the sun comes to you? It's like falling in love with the moon, only the moon is dead inside - eUë
