Theseus-Newly Recruited Villain (DSMP fanfic)

(Supervillain/hero au)

Prompt:  The villain gives their customary "join me and we can be great" speech. The hero accepts.

“Do you like what you see, Theseus?” Icarus smiled menacingly, looking down upon the so-called ‘beloved’ hero, watching them writhing on the ground, while the chaos around them grew, to what looked like no end.

Theseus watched in helpless horror, as the city, the city in which he had dedicated his entire life to protect, in which he grew up and cared for, was engulfed in hungry flames. His city, his home, was gone. Only rubble and ashes remained: the now only proof that this city had ever existed in the first place. The former citizens watched from a distance, knowing they could do nothing, had nothing, and were nothing against the infamous Syndicates: Icarus, the mind manipulator. Zephryrus, the crow father. and Protesilaus, the blood god.

“Are you happy? Do you see what you’ve done?” Theseus cried in anger, sorrow and grief, for the place that he once called home, and the place that was now no more, “Are you PROUD of what you have done?”

“I mean, yeah mate. I mean, that’s been the whole point of this, we ARE anarchists after all,” Zephryrus responded, while flying towards his direction with his signature majestic crow wings on his back. It was a forever mystery to all of the people whether those wings were real and biological, or if they were simply just another part of his villain attire.

“And isn’t it truly a work of art? I mean, you can’t see THAT and say it isn’t beautiful!” Icarus exclaimed. 

And call Theseus insane, but no matter how much he could deny in, it truly was. There was something, SOMETHING about the chaotic mess that made it look so tragically mesmerising is a way. In a messed up and wicked way. Maybe it way the way the flames danced so gracefully, as it were alive and free of reign, so childish and playful. Or maybe it was the comforting glow from the fire seemed console, as if it filled the warmth missing from Theseus’s childhood: being hugged or embraced, the passion and smothering he never got.

Finally, Protesilaus joined the scene, snapping Theseus from his spiralling, guilty thoughts.

“You know, Theseus, it didn’t have to be this way.” Protesilaus stated in his monotone voice. And he was right.

Theseus glanced at the citizens that were once a part of this city, and can’t help but feel a sinking sensation in his stomach, that HE had let them down, and it was all his fault. The shame returned to him.

Protesilaus continued: “You truly want to be a hero? Then learn how to die like one.”

Silence, as Theseus let those words sink in.

“Dude, you can’t just say that!’ Icarus whispered, not so discreetly, “That totally contradicts my cool villain speech!”

“Not sorry. You have to admit, that line sounded awesome.” Protesilaus smirked

“I hate you,” Icarus replied

“You love me,” Protesilaus contradicted

“You’re lucky you’re my brother,” Icarus gritted his teeth in frustration. Then, switching to normal voice volume, he then looked directly at Theseus.

“Or, you could join us! It’s your choice!”

“…what?” Theseus looked at Icarus as if he were insane, because let’s be honest, he probably is.

“Think about it! Join us, and you’ll possess all this power! Think about all the great havoc you could wreck, and the shenanigans you could create! Why spend your life attending to the poor? Overrated! You could accomplish so more by joining the dark side.” Icarus exclaimed “You’ve failed! Failed to help all these citizens? What’s the point in anything anymore? YOU care so much about them, but do they care about you?”

Icarus had touched a nerve. Because he was right, wasn’t he? All his life Theseus had spent his time protecting the peoples. He had sacrificed so, so much. And no one cared. No one appreciated him.

Icarus continued. “Join us, Theseus! Together, we could rule the world! With your intelligence, Protesilaus’s strength, Zephrurus’s knowledge and my-“

“Okay.” Theseus agreed.

The world seemed to have stopped. The citizens watching gasped in terrified shock. The Syndicates stared at him in jaw-dropping suprisement.

“…I’m…sorry?” Icarus finally asked, having finally found the ability to speak once again.

Theseus look a bated breath. “You heard what I said.”

Icarus took a couple seconds to process those words. “Wait, wait, wait! What? That’s not what happens! You’re supposed to say no, and go on this huge heroic speech about how no matter what happens, you’re never giving up, and pull out that last sly move, like, I’ve watched movies! I’m not stupid!”

“…do you WANT me to reject you?” Theseus questioned, with genuine curiosity.

“I mean, no! BUT-“ Icarus began

“Then okay then, I accept your offer.” Theseus stated, as if he were merely saying 1+1 equaled 2.

Everyone stared at Theseus with a dumbfounded look.

Theseus sighed. “Look man, like, I’m never appreciated. No one really cares and just takes me for granted. And have you seen those memes? I’m so done! Plus, your costumes look way cooler, and having a GROUP of supers is so much more fun that just being a super of one! It also doesn’t help that all those photos of me on media suck so much, like hello? Get some better photographers.”

“Well…um…okay then mate. Do you want to, like, come with us then?” Zephrurus asked, seeming to be the only human who had at least semi-recovered from the shock.

“You kidding?” Theseus asked, “heck yeah! Let’s do this!”

OC/Writing art asks, for whatever your most recent work is!

Starry Night, The Scream, Persistence of Memory, Wheatfield with Crows, Creation of Adam, and creative!

Hello !! Thank you so much for the ask !! I'm gonna cheat and answer these for Cotton Mendings, which is not my most recent WIP but has the best answers for these questions.

Starry Night: are there any scenes in this work that take place at nighttime? Is this significant, or just the passing of time?

Many, many of them!!!!!!!! And it is definitely thematically significant. Most major important scenes from the beginning to the midpoint happen during the evening/night, and then the major scenes from the midpoint until a little bit before the climax happen during the day. And then it goes back to night again. That sort of represents the emotional states that the main character(s) experience throughout the story and their relationships. Another thing is that light (mostly sunlight but artificial light as well) is emphasised in scenes where Oscar (protagonist) and Percy (love interest + my most beloved baby boy I would do anything for him) are together in the same space (which is why important midpoint-to-climax scenes happen during the day).

The Scream: are there any moments in this work that you think could scare a reader? Are there any moments where the characters themselves are profoundly scared?

I don't really think there are any that would scare a reader, but there are definitely scenes where the characters are absolutely terrified. Two of those scenes are murders and one of them is a character nearly dying. Heh.

Persistence of Memory: are there any moments in this work where a character's memory plays a strong role? Either an individual memory, or simply a character's ability to recall the past.

Yes !! There are. Many of those moments. A lot of Oscar's actions happen because of him thinking about events in his past (for example, getting into a relationship with his (rich) former friend (Salvatore) whom he initially rejected, piercing his own ear and wearing a pear earring that a girl he had a fling with gave him (slut behaviour on Oscar's part. 10/10 would do the same)). Oscar's memories of his brother (Charlie) (deceased) + another character's memories of Charlie are also very important and cause like 50% of the plot. Another thing is that Oscar and Percy meet once very briefly near the beginning of Cotton Mendings before becoming friends a lot later and Percy doesn't really remember much about that (because alcohol and emotional trauma 👍). ALSO there's a chapter entirely composed of Oscar's journal entries several years before the start of the story.

Wheatfield with Crows: are there any scenes in this work that involve birds? Do the birds play a definitive role, or are they simply part of the setting?

There are scenes with birds in them but they're just part of the setting!! They don't matter to me. That Is A Joke I love birds I would die for birds. But like they don't have much of a role in the story. Wings and feathers on the other hand... well let's just say I went off the rails with the Icarus symbolism.

Creation of Adam: choose one character that is not present at the beginning of this work. How did you introduce them into the story?

Percy !! Aka the loveliest little guy who is everything to me and makes me sob violently. This is on some levels a cheat because *technically* in the literal first scene Oscar's staring at a portrait of him, but I don't count that as his real introduction and the portrait scene plays part in his Real introduction, so!! The first scene he is physically present in and meets Oscar is a Great Gatsby ass party because *every* fictional work set in the 1920s needs one of those. AND. Oh dear god I am not normal about this scene. Him and Oscar talk a little bit and they're both quite out of place (Percy is not at all dressed appropriately for the occasion cause he's hashtag quirky and Oscar feels overwhelmed and is having a category 5 Autism Event (sensory overload)) but they like books and poetry and and Percy gives him a little pink flower and then later on they stare at each other really intensely and . Oscar in the narrative compares him to Saint Sebastian because that's a normal thing to do and the next morning he eats the flower. He's such a little freak. AND JUST. AAAA. Oscar has a very romanticised idea of Percy at that point and he feels incredibly sad because he thinks he will never actually get to know him and they'll never see each other again and he realises the portrait of Percy doesn't say anything about Percy at all, it's just a misperception, a ragingly alive young man presented as soft and pretty and angelic and devoid of life, but Oscar isn't really aware that, in seeing that misperception, he is constructing *another* misperception of Percy as a martyr and something inherently unknowable and nebulous. I want to eat glass. Anyways. Sooooo normal about them.

Creative!: free space! share something you've been dying to share about your writing! Could be an OC that never gets the limelight, a moment you were proud of, or anything else you'd like to share.

Uhm. Well, I'm planning on writing a novella called Carpe Vinum Motion Picture! (though I'm not sure about the title but I'm rolling with it for now). It's set a couple of years after the events of Cotton Mendings and it's literally just Oscar running away to France and being depraved and recklessly indulgent and a bitch to everyone around him. In Cotton Mendings he's definitely a little freak but he's relatively stable (?) and also, like, very kind and gentle, BUT we do see the slutty bitchy sad boy side of him in some scenes, especially early on (for example Percy's introduction scene). And I wanted to explore it further because I love making myself want to throw rocks at that man. I love him sooooo much <3

Camp Nano Progress Update: Day One

First day of Camp Nano! Woo! I started early today for once because I was excited! I hope everyone else has been having a good first day of April and an excellent first day of Camp Nano! (This is absolutely an invitation to tell me about your project 👀) Here's my progress thus far!

Excerpt from my favorite part:

“Yeah, I’ve got a terrible nail biting habit. Turns out it’s more self destructive than I thought and I’ve come here to see the errors of my ways.” It’s not technically a lie, one look at his hands confirms that.

Sandro paints Icarus’ nails for him because if he does it on his own his nails will look like a toddler’s art project. He does it in the hopes that it will discourage the biting, and for the most part it works. Sometimes Icarus decides to be gremlin anyway, and he bites through the nail polish.

It’s never a good experience when he does but he’ll never learn from his own mistakes.

Dr. Vyas doesn’t find it very amusing, and Icarus summons the will to turn his head. The corners of her mouth are pinched almost imperceptibly, but the lines around her mouth deepen, unable to hide her displeasure.

She has so many smile lines, and the corners of her eyes are lined with crows feet that no doubt come from a life full of laughter and delight. It’s odd to see those lines morph, no longer showing years spent smiling through life.

It’s a reminder that she’s a person too. Dr. Vyas didn’t choose to have Icarus here laying on her couch with his bitchy attitude. They’re both victims of a court mandate, Icarus might as well let Dr. Vyas do her job. Plus, it’s either talking to the nice lady, jail time or getting sent to a psychiatric hospital.

He’d rather not do either, but ‘choose the lesser of two evils’ as they say.

Weekly Recap Jan 20 2023:

This week I was surprisingly productive, despite classes starting back up. I was able to complete the Biosheets for the main characters for the primary story I am working on. All the characters have received positive attention on discord, tumblr, and reddit so far, which gives me confidence in developing a story (thanks to all the lovely people who left nice comments, it really means the world!). It will likely still not become anything significant anytime soon, but I was also able to complete an outline this week which is far more complete than I had anticipated. I have also started getting into specifics of it, which will likely continue in the coming weeks.

The secondary OC-related story has one Biosheet illustrated, though it lacks text. After being stuck with a few important missing story pieces for years, Inspiration has finally hit and progress on writing/conceptualizing has resumed. I have been mainly focusing on the story set in the O’Malley Foster Home as my primary and the stage play themed story as my secondary, though gears have also been turning for a few others that have been on the back burner, especially the one about the Crow. I want to focus on the primary and secondary for the time being, though characters from others may get drawing every once in a while, which I won’t be shy to post.

Over break I was able to start a sewing project. It is effectively on hold until March due to inaccessibility of equipment. I may be able to pull aside some patterns for doll clothes to use as bases, but apart from that it will remain on hiatus.

I bought FL Studio on impulse while it was on sale, and also received a supposedly better microphone for recording music as a gift. I hope that I can record some piano and eventually add other instruments with FL, though the microphone has given my computer a very hard time. As of right now I have recorded two improvised piano arrangements of touhou without the new mic, and posted one to newgrounds. I plan to post the other once I have the time and motivation to draw up another art piece to promote it. Time permitting I will attempt to use the new mic again, and record some more video game arrangements, likely Touhou, Zelda, Kid Icarus, or Xenoblade. Any original pieces are a long way off yet, though they are an eventual goal.

I decided at the beginning of the year to participate in Inktober 52, and I was able to complete a piece by the Thursday deadline this week, though I was not able to post it until today, as I deemed the Biosheets more important. The prompt for this next week is easy to work with, but will also be ink heavy, I hope I do not smudge it like I did yesterday.

I was able to start a new DnD campaign today, and it is likely my other one will resume this semester as well. The only character art I have this time is rather low quality and I will likely complete a more detailed drawing at some point. The campaign has a much more interesting setting than I had anticipated, and I was already excited before. I may draw a few pieces in celebration, given my energy.

My main pet project at the moment aside from my OCs is the TRG Animated project, as I would rather do a lower stakes fan animation before hopping into something more ambitious. Despite Adobe’s best efforts, I was able to save Jon’s rig from corruption, and complete ~85% of Tim’s rig, as well as 95% of Emile’s rerig (because he was kinda scuffed ngl). I still need a few pieces for Tim, like his Face and Hands, and Emile needs new Shin pieces, as I have decided I don’t like his current ones, but other than that, they’re almost ready. I will try a test animation a bit more complicated than I have done so far, to push myself. It will feature both of them directly interacting, as I have yet to animate two characters making physical contact with one another. This also means I can test both rigs at the same time. During this time I will also be selecting a clip to animate, as while I have one I’m certainly holding on to, I’d rather open with a clip from one of the Mario Parties. People really seem to like the Mario Party DS playthrough, but honestly I don’t find Jon getting mad and yelling all that funny, especially when it’s so frequent, so I’ll leave it to someone else. I’ll watch back through the other playthroughs, I’m sure I’ll find something.

Amongst all the art stuff I have managed to keep up well with homework so far. I anticipate this will not continue, as labs will eat up a lot of time, though I hope I can keep up the pet projects, as they have really helped my mood as of late. Thank you to anyone who read this far, or read this at all. I want to try giving updates weekly, as to help me collect my thoughts, and keep track of my projects. I hope they are worth it. I promise they won’t all be this long, I just got a lot done this week.
