No, no, NO! You don’t understand! If they were going to make a movie called “Goncharov” it would have to be a modern REBOOT of the 1973 film. Then everyone would have the right to consume the media while simultaneously complaining about how “it isn’t as good as the original” or “I can’t BELIEVE that they left out the iconic part XYZ”. We get to watch the film and preserve the original. Everyone wins.

i see your “goncharov can’t be made into a real movie cause that would ruin it” and raise you; someone does make a real version of goncharov but films 3 or 4 different versions of each scene/plot point, and than mashes them up to create like 30 different versions of the same movie. it’s released in theaters under the guise of being a perfectly normal film, but every person who goes to see it sees a slightly different version, which will just increase the confusion and amount of unconnected lore. is that possible? probably not. but it would be hilarious.

APPARENTLY I'M BESTIES WITH ICE PICK JOE?

Ok, so the movie is about Goncharov, the head of a Russian mafia group in Naples Italy (Martin Scorsese never explained what the Russian mafia was doing in Italy) in the 50’s. He’s trying to stop Andrey (the head of an opposing mafia group) from taking over Italy. While he’s doing that, his wife Katya, is an Italian spy trying to stop the mafia from taking over Italy. Now Ice Pick Joe is working for Goncharov, but he’s trying to win over Katya and take over Andrey’s group. I’m explaining it badly, but this is the plot.

Goncharov (1973)
I know everyone talks about Ice Pick Joe, but let’s be real, that scene where he finally kills Gil “the Grill” McGilicuddy? Brian Dennehy STOLE IT.
EDIT
Hey, so we added up the process video for how we made these!

Can’t believe it’s been 50 years since:
“If you were really in love you wouldn’t have missed.” “Time comes for us all Goncharov.” “We’re just meat to them Joe. Remember that.” “I dream of you every night, but I can no longer remember your face.” “If you are a snake, then I am Eve’s trembling hands.”

HUGE Goncharov Controversy!
Goncharov (1973) was originally shopped by Stanley Kubrick to Warner Brothers studios three years before Martin Scorsese started filming. Kubrick’s estate is now planning legal action. (My dad knows a guy who is on the legal team.)

In a way Goncharov (1973) really is the greatest gangster movie ever made. There are thousands of people dreaming up their own versions of this movie. With more plot threads than could ever actually fit into a 2 hour movie. No actual film could ever compare to the imagination of a million strangers and that's weirdly beautiful.

Some Goncharov lore came to me in a dream just now. Jacksepticeye was playing a platformer with different narrators for each section, kind of a mash between Celeste and Getting Over It, when he gets to a mountainous section. The narrator’s name was “Mountain Climber” alongside a sprite of a black man wearing a puffy coat and a scarf.
And I kid you not, the approximately first thing Sean says when he saw this man was “Wait, isn’t this the inspiration for Ice Pick Joe in Goncharov? It looks just like him”
I woke up after that and have come to the conclusion that was a premonition and I needed to tell the rest of Tumblr the news immediately. Scorsese was inspired to make Ice Pick Joe from an indie platformer in the style of Celeste. In 1973. What a legend, truly ahead of his time.

One of the most heartbreaking scenes for me was when they showed ice pick joe's childhood. He came out as trans ftm to his mom who he thought would be supportive but unfortunately she wasn't. And despite all the abuse he had to through because of his mother transphobia he still loved her, but we all know how his childhood affected his mental health. At least he had his brother Giorno with him before his death.
Can't believe I relate to a dude with a cat, an ice pick and a lobotomy.
