DPXDC Prompt #87
Sams grandma was smart, almost too smart. She knew Danny was Phantom long before his parents found out and oh boy were they not happy. Ida talked to her long time friend about housing Danny to keep him safe from all parties that wished him harm. Alfred Pennyworth was never to turn down a child in need so of course he and Bruce were willing to take Danny. Ida helped sneak him out of the city and set him on a private jet to Gotham.

Dp X DC prompt. Asterix and Obelix in the Midwest but make it ghostly.
The whole world considers ectoplasm a life-threatening toxin but Amity Park is..different.
Maybe you heard that the magic ecto-potion brewed by Getafix Fentons gives the Gaulish warriors civilians superhuman strength.
When another supervillain uses his super-powered army to take over the world the Justice League is preoccupied with protecting the Cities. So heroes end the battle with a heavy heart and approach Amity Park, far from other settlements, thinking that all they can do is try to save possible survivors
..but they see the villains running in terror from the crowd of green-eyed schoolers.
~~~~
Maddie and Jack Fanton stand outside their house with a tub full of ectoplasm and give a shot of a spetial coctail for everyone.
~~~~
Maddie: The Justice League? But we didn’t call anyone...I mean, you all are doing some pretty dangerous stuff, and we’ve got nothing but a little Level F attack in the morning.
The Flash sees the old lady which takes her purse from freshly battered outlander.
Old Lady: I'll teach you some manners!
Flash:..
Maddie: Ida! Nice to meet you. Sam didn’t let Danny drink ectoplasm again?
Ida: Maddie, how can I know? Teenagers are so active.
Maddie: Sorry, Mr. Flash, I'm losing this conversation. Our Danny fell into an ectoplasm tank as a kid, and Jack and I have been trying to control how much he drinks since. Where were we? Whatever, we promise that ectoplasm does not have a poisonous effect in therapeutic doses.
Flash: What about Danny, huh?
A teenager with white hair turns his neck at an unnatural angle and hisses at the hero.
Jack: What do you mean? My boy is absolutely fine.
Flash: Okaaay. But can I talk to the mayor? Jack: Sure, wait till Vladdy’s done fooling around with Danno.
The man points his head to a freak who looks like Dracula and also fight with the teen who disappeared before Flash’s eyes. He swears the kid was just here.
Flash: You know what, I'm not gonna bother them.

If you have questions about tagging guidelines, please reach out ○ If you are not Jewish, I would advise caution when considering telling a story about the experience or effects of antisemitism
You do not have to do all eight, do whichever and however many speak to you! However, if you do complete all eight nights, you will receive a small prize of art or a short ficlet!

I updated some old concept artwork of Sam where I imagined her with red or blonde hair like her parents because for all we know she dyes it. Then again Sam's grandma had black hair though so wouldn't it be a plot twist if Jeremy's hair is naturally black but he got it bleached blonde? Anyways, just thought it'd be interesting.

I'm starting to think the reason why Sam doesn't get in trouble at school as often as Danny is because, while the student body remains unaware, the faculty knows her parents are filthy stinking rich because of all the donations they probably make to Casper High. I mean, if being an A-lister usually gives you a free card to do whatever you like, then being loaded probably works on the same principle.

@withjust-a-bite  I can’t believe I forgot about Bruce, Alfred and Babs, so consider this a Part 2 to this post
I’ve got a lot more of these in the works, so to keep them all together, I’ll be tagging them #extended family au
Barbara:  So, let’s start off with Barbara.  As much as she’s a part of the batfam, she’s not one of the Bruce’s adoptees and doesn’t live at the manor.  Most likely, the two have never met, but they’ve heard stories about each other.
Alfred:  Alfred usually stays behind to hold down the fort when the family goes to Amity Park, so Sam only sees him when her family goes to Wayne Manor, but he always has her favorite vegan snacks on hand when she comes over.  And the sheer amount of sarcasm and sass that man can sling at Pam without her notice is something to behold; he’s cool.  Alfred has also been sneaking Bruce’s old MRC albums and paraphernalia into Sam’s room whenever the Manson’s come to visit.  He’s been trying to get it out of the manor and hoping she’ll take it, but she’s emo, not goth.  Still, it’s more effort than her parents put out, so she appreciates the gesture.
Bruce:  Sam doesn’t spend a lot of on-on-one time with the guy.  More often than not, one of his kids gets hurt and is sent to her house to “keep out of trouble.”  It doesn’t work.  Sam once caught Tim trying to climb out the window with a broken arm. or Pam ties up his attention whenever he comes over.  At least he never pushes her to eat meat or gives her grief about her wardrobe, so that’s a plus.  Still, she’s a 14-year-old girl raging against the machine, and Bruce is part of the machine, so she can never admit she likes her uncle.
And as a bonus, INTERACTIONS WITH IDA!!!
Dick:  Holds her yarn while she knits and takes over whatever conversation they have.  Ida’s fine just letting him talk and talk, the subject doesn’t matter.  She knows that sometimes you just need to vent.
Jason:  Ida’s found the best way to keep Jason from running is to get him into the library.  They usually have a nice back and forth in the together, and Ida can recommend a lot of books.  Jason also does a lot of venting toward Ida.
Tim:  Tim is banned from all forms of caffeine in the Manson estate, so as soon as Ida can get him to sit still for 30 minutes, he usually passes out.  Tim is the one who souped up Ida’s mobility scooter.
Cass:  Likes to hold Ida’s yarn while she knits and just listen to her voice.  Her tone and body language are super relaxing and comfortable.
Steph:  Loves to sit and listen to stories about Ida in her heydays.  This woman has stories!
Duke:  Thinks Ida is super sweet, but scary insightful.
Damian:  Has yet to willingly sit with Ida and thinks this whole ritual is ridiculous.  He does not need a babysitter!  One of his siblings or Sam has to literally pin him down with their legs while they sit.  Can usually be appeased with an art book or two to flip through.
Grandma Ida:  She has figured out everyone’s vigilante activities, especially Sam.  She’s the original rebel in the family; the rest aren’t about to sneak anything past her.  Oh, the stories she and Alfred could tell… Also, it’s never shown in the show, but I’m adding elevators to Wayne Manor and the Manson Estate so Ida can get around.  I don’t care what B*tch thinks, I’m making the place accessible.

Title: Tuesday Night Knitting
AO3
For @phicphight
Words: 1145
Prompt: Danny is forced to get a hobby. By @brokeitwiththepowerofmathamatics
Summary: Danny is bored. His friends suggested that he get a new hobby. Guess he'll try knitting.
Warnings: Off screen major character death
I know technically no one forced Danny to have a hobby, but his boredom did.
   "Since the ghosts haven't been attacking lately, I've been bored. I never realized just how much time I spent keeping them at bay," young Danny Fenton said to his two best friends before grabbing his Nasty Fries out of the bag. Tucker Foley paused on eating his burger to reply.
  "Maybe you need a new hobby?"
  "You could try gardening!" Sam chimed in.
  "No offense Sam, but that wouldn't work. I kill pretty much any plant I touch."
   "What about programming?" suggested Tucker.
  "Not really my thing. I need to find something nice and relaxing, but also useful.
   "My Grandma Ida knits," his goth friend mentioned as she brought her tofu sandwich to her mouth.
   "Yeah, but knitting is for old ladies," Tucker argued.
   "Knitting and crochet are both relaxing and useful. You could make literally anything. And who knows? Danny might enjoy it!" Sam defended.
   "I mean I suppose I could give it a shot. How hard could it be?"
  "Great! I'll get in touch with Grandma Ida and see when she's available to teach you," Sam replied.
   The trio spent the rest of the evening chowing down on their food and talking about various things and tea from school. Before they departed, Sam told Danny she'd text him the dates and stalked off into the night.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   The date was set for Danny to head over to Sam's house to see her grandma. Danny's nerves acted up when he arrived at Manson Mansion. Sam's parents still disapproved of him. Thankfully, Ida had picked a day when the Manson's were out on business. He rang the doorbell.
   Sam's grandma answered the door and sweetly beckoned Danny in. She brought him to a cozy sitting room (one of many in the house) and showed him to a chair next to hers. Danny sat down as Ida pulled out needles and yarn. She gave Danny a bluish-grey skein of yarn.
   "Now, what should we make first?" Grandma Ida asked, tapping her chin. She brightened up.
  "I know! How about we make a scarf?"
   She showed Danny how to cast the first stitches onto his needle. After he finished casting on twenty stitches, her frail hands guided his own in the motion of a standard knit. It was a bit hard at first. He would sometimes lose the stitch by pushing it off the needle too early, but Ida patiently helped him and offered bits of advice here or there.
   The afternoon flew by and Danny made a lot of progress! Grandma Ida brought him some tea and a snack from the kitchen. She had started a scarf of her own shortly after she helped Danny, and she was a lot further along. The two of them swapped stories over tea while Danny finished up his scarf. Ida taught him how to close it off and sew in the loose ends.
   He held the scarf up in pride. It was very uneven and had a few holes from missed stitches, but he was happy with it. Grandma Ida smiled and patted his head.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   For the past three years, Ida and Danny had been knitting and crocheting over tea every Tuesday. Danny learned that homemade scarves and hats and sweaters make good presents. He also liked to make some to donate to charity.
    One Thursday he got a call from Sam.
    "Hey Danny? I got some news," she started, "Grandma Ida is in the hospital."
   "Is she okay? What happened?"
   "She's fine. She just wasn't feeling too great. The doctors are holding her overnight to run some tests."
   "Okay. Well, I'll go visit her. Love you lots!"
    "Love you too. See ya at school tomorrow."
   "See you then."
   Danny hung up the phone and prepared to drive out to see Ida. He grabbed his coat as well as a small parcel.
  After checking in at the front desk, he walked over to her room.
  "Hi Grandma!"
   "Hello Danny!" Despite her sickness, she was just as cheerful.
   "I just wanted to see how you were doing. I brought you something!"
   "Oh let me see!"
  He handed her the parcel and she unwrapped it. Inside was an uneven, blue-grey scarf with holes in it. She looked over at Danny and smiled.
   "I remember that day," she spoke fondly, "Now, Danny, I need you to take care of something for me. I need you to take these."
   She held out her favorite pair of knitting needles. Danny looked up at her in confusion.
   "Why do you need me to take them? Won't you need them for your projects?"
   "Ah, alas, I fear my time is almost up. And, well, I can't very well leave them to my daughter. She'd just throw them away! I wanted to leave them with someone special who'd actually use them."
   Tears stung Danny's eyes as he responded, "But… How could your time be almost up? Sam said you were fine! You're gonna be fine, right?"
   "I have lived a very long and content life. Eighty-five years is a lot. I'm not scared of death. It was bound to happen at some point. It's part of being human."
   Danny stared at her contemplatively. Ida patted his hand.
   "Besides, I'm sure we can still have tea and knit. It'll just be different. Now, take good care of these needles and take good care of Sam. I always knew you two'd end up together."
   Danny smiled and gently took the needles. He said his final goodbyes and walked out to the car. He sobbed all the way home.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   Grandma Ida died in her sleep on Friday night. The following weekend, her funeral was held, and Danny put the scarf he gave her by her grave. Later that day was the reading of her will. Her family, as expected, got most of everything, but there were a few items listed for one Daniel J. Fenton. He was to receive all of Ida's knitting needles, hooks, and yarn, as well as a small parcel with his name on it.
    Danny loaded the yarn hoard into his car. Man, she really had a lot of yarn. He closed the trunk and swung into the driver's seat. In his hands, laid the small parcel with his name scrawled on it. He carefully opened it to reveal a note.
'Incase you get cold'
   Behind the note there was a lime green scarf with the Phantom logo added to it. He cried. It was the same scarf she made the first night they sat for tea while her frail hands guided him into making his own creation.
   The following Tuesday, Phantom walked into the Infinite Realms towards its newest lair. An elderly ghost answered the door and let him in.
   "Now, what should we make today? I know, a scarf!"
    Danny smiled as he pulled out some yarn. The two sat down and began their work.
Ida is Constantine's good ex.
They separated on good terms after a few months because Ida wanted to start a family and not Constantine (for obvious reasons). Then, despite Ida's efforts to keep in touch as a long-distance friend, she quickly no longer received any news from him.
So when she sees him barely older and seeming lost in his town… she takes him for a ghost who has retained a very human appearance. She rushes to him because she is surely not the only one to notice the presence of a “tourist” in town.
She takes a minute to pity him and apologize. He hadn't ignored him, he was dead!!! Then start explaining to him why as a ghost it's not safe for him here even though it's very nice of him to visit <3
Constantine had not informed Ida about magic, after all it was one of his exes from before his cancer (a little near the time when he stopped responding to her) and his first triple sale of soul for escape death. But he knows Ida well enough not to contradict her. In addition, she gives him all the information in flash notes that he is looking for.
Okay, he also missed Ida. It felt SO strange to see her old. But she apparently hadn't lost anything from a mental point of view
This is how Constantine was invited to have tea and catch up on lost time at Ida's in addition to having a more complete debrief of the Amity Park situation
Ida Manson | @the-fenton-anticreep-stick
where else are you gonna get a grandma who fakes being senile to let her granddaughter sneak out and then dresses up as her to pretend to be her to throw off said granddaughter’s parents
Queen Clarisse | @homosandhomies
Clarisse was from a noble family and was put in an arranged marriage to King Rupert. She wasn’t in love with him but she knew it was her duty to become a great queen. They had a son, Philippe, who married a regular woman and had a baby named Mia. Problem was, Clarisse wanted Philippe to prioritize his country so he divorced his wife and became the next ruler. 16 years later she tells Mia the whole sitch and shenanigans ensue. She apologizes for keeping Mia in the dark but also teaches her to be a princess (and eventual queen) and becomes an amazing grandma. Mia doesn’t wanna be in an arranged marriage but still wants to be queen, and Clarisse supports her and then marries the love of her life Joe!!!!!!!! ✨ it’s growth ✨ Also she’s played by Dame Julie Andrews which is an automatic win.
DP HC - Head Butler of Manson Manor
I want Sam to have an Alfred of her own. Just this wonderful, snarky elderly gentlemen that supports her & gives sage advice & who she regards as more of a father figure than her actual father.
He'd likely been under the Manson's employ since around the time that Ida married into the family & he, his late wife, Ida, & her late husband are/were very dear friends.
He was married at the time, his wife having been the daughter of the ranch he'd worked at as a teenager & having owned a little bakery in Amity. She died birthing their youngest unfortunately.
Imma name him Benedict Babcock. Only Ida & Sam get to call him Benny, Ida because there might be a little bit of a thing going on between them now & Sam because he sees her as another granddaughter.
He tries to encourage Mistress Sam & Mistress Pamela to try & see things from the other's perspective, but they're both just too alike. Too stubborn.
Of course, Benedict is neither British nor anything as substantial as an "Agent B" or a retired mercenary or anything, but he does have an American military background & is neither afraid of guns nor killing if it means protecting the people he cares about.
That's actually part of why he was originally hired by the previous Manson patriarch. To double as a live-in bodyguard.
Actually, he's got a bit of that Southern Gentry accent going on, as he'd been born & raised in Virginia. Of course, it's faded a bit over the many years living in Wisconsin, but it does come out every once in a while. Especially around those who also have that Southern lilt to their speech.
Not to mention, he isn't the only servant employed at the Manson household the way that Alfred is the only one at Wayne Manor. He is the head servant though.
Benedict & Ida actually both know about Sam being a ghost hunter & Danny being Phantom, but they're sorta going the Jazz route about it & supporting not only Sam, but the rest of Team Phantom silently until they decide to tell the two elders themselves.
He has very conservative viewpoints, but isn't an argumentative person by nature. So, while he disagrees with a lot of Sam's views, he supports her right to think how she chooses. He will give her little insights into his perspective every once in a while, but how she chooses to take it is Sam's decision.
Benedict is a very big supporter of the Eye for an Eye method of punishment. He thinks that if someone does something to break the law, they should be punished according to their offense. So, in his eyes, rapists should be castrated.
He does support Sam's environmental efforts & has even begun to put in effort himself in his own way, but more in a Circle of Life, 'plant a tree or two for every one you knock down,' 'prevent forest fires,' 'only hunt what you're gonna use & use every part of it,' & 'don't kill for sport' sort of way. A very old school & down-to-earth sort of conservation.
Benedict does not think it's wrong to eat meat or dairy because he grew up in an area with a lot of old fashioned ranches, farms, & dairies & a large hunting community that hunted to cull herds when the population got too high. He figures that so long as the source doesn't use drugs to increase yield or factory farm, is free range, & isn't unnecessarily cruel when they kill their animals, that there's no reason to not eat meat or dairy. However, that does mean that the Mansons only buy from local sources that Benedict has vetted & knows doesn't use those abovementioned methods. As such, he makes frequent visits to the farmer's market & the Mansons eat healthier because of it.
In fact, his first summer job was on a farm & it helped to shape him into the man he is today. It's where he met his late wife. He knows that that image of cows being in too close quarters that rad vegans like to bandy around as being needlessly cruel, is actually just a milking room that cows only stay in for 15 minutes, tops. Why? Because he'd helped heard cows into one such room & remembered how long they were in there.
However, Sam still thinks it's not enough & would sometimes get angry at him for supporting people that 'exploit animals' like that. It saddens Benedict because he changed the household's entire diet to try & better support her lifestyle while still allowing the others to continue to enjoy the food they like.
What Sam doesn't realize is that Benedict has calcium issues & his body has trouble with things like nuts & soy. He can eat them in moderation, but if he were to try & replace all of his proteins with them, he'd die a slow & painful death.
For him, meat is not optional.
I mean, he's sure that it's possible for him to have a vegan diet while still be healthy, but he's done his research & the sheer amount of effort that'd be required just to do so, not to mention the amount of supplements that he'd need to get all the nutrients he'd need... Well... It just isn't gonna happen.
He's still trying to figure out a way to ask her about her thoughts on Lionfish. They're not only an extremely invasive species that absolutely destroys reefs, but they try to eat anything they come across. Even fish far larger than them. Not to mention, they reproduce & spread like wildfire. He understands that she hates the very idea of hurting any animal & he knows that it comes from a place of deep compassion, but these things actively hurt the environment without any form of care or concern for the harm they do. If she refuses to even so much as cage them (killing & eating obviously being very much off-the-table from her perspective), how exactly does she expect to deal with them? Because relocation isn't an option because they'll just cause the same problems elsewhere.
Anyway, Benedict actually lectured Sam after Mystery Meat about forcing others to conform to her ideals, saying that she was doing exactly what her mother does to her.
Sam had flipped out, saying that vegetables are healthy & that frilly dresses have no such benefit. He countered her by saying that studies show that bright colors, such as pink, are known to improve mood.
It isn't until Sam goes too far that Ida decides to straighten her granddaughter out.
She sets Sam up to work on a farm for the summer, just like Benedict did as a young teen.
The experience is a hell of a wakeup call for the girl.
She'd expected to find cages & chemicals, but she found an open farm where the animals had lots of room & were both happy & healthy.
She'd never contemplated what would happen to the cow population if people stopped caring for them. It never crossed her mind that sheep NEEDED to have their wool sheered or they'd get infected or get wool maggots & that sheering doesn't even hurt the sheep. Never realized that many predators would just begin eating their prey while they were still alive & awake. Never thought about food waste or food deserts.
She would never forget waking up in the middle of the night to hear a commotion & then going out only to find a fox in the process of eating a live chicken.
Her presence had scared it away & the chicken was squawking & she couldn't move. Couldn't do anything until one of the proprietors of the farm had come to see what happened.
When the man had taken out a knife & was going to kill the chicken, Sam leapt to stop him.
"What do you expect me to do?! Let her suffer?! It'll just prolong her pain!!"
The way this previously thought cruel exploiter of animals had knelt down beside the dying & in-pain hen & tried so hard to sooth her before the end. It changed something in Sam.
That was when she understood. Humans are by far the gentlest predators on Earth.
Humanity goes out of its way to make death as painless a transition as possible. The good ones do anyway.
Animals don't. They don't care.
Nature was beautiful, but it was also cruel & it didn't care.
After that, Sam became a pescatarian & stopped working against the farming industry at large. Instead, only going against factory farming & those farms, ranches, & dairies that actually did treat their animals badly. She also began supporting local farms & began intentionally helping at that farm every Saturday.
Still an activist, but by no means does she support PETA or the ARA.
On the outskirts of Gotham a farm is made.
No one can pinpoint when it was started but it was clearly bountiful.
New orchards of plums apples and several other fruit whisper promises of fruits in the years to come.
Bee houses buzzed with life and ducks quacked and scurried to and from their pond, coop and the garden.
Vegetables by the rows with seasonal berries brushes spring up at the corners of the property.
Greenery that almost seemed to glow with how lush it was.
It was like a small oasis in the desert of Gotham’s dirty land.
And it was ran by only three people.
The woman’s name was Sam. She was known as an activist who seemed to do the primary care of the plants. The property was in her name and she went out of her way to invite people to take what they need.
Danny was the most well known of the trio. He brought the produce into the heart of the city. Anywhere that would take the food, kitchens, pantries, school cafeterias even people’s doorsteps.
Tucker was the technical mastermind, hidden but equally important. The sprinklers, planning of the pollination rotation, harvesting planning and statistics were his main focus on the farm. Not a single square inch of the the land was not under his watchful gaze.
All the food was fresh or properly stored and most interesting of all free.
Of course people were going to talk.
