anyway, i like the idea that the Ghouls are undead because of this quote from Metal Myths:

this quote describes the Papas' dead bodies being reanimated as "faceless ghouls", implying that Ghouls are dead people.

it's not clear if this is just a vision or if it was a real thing that happened at some point, but it shows a flashback of young Sister Imperator while she's saying this, so maybe it did, IDK. anyway. Sister Imperator is describing kidnapping the Ghouls, tying them up, and then burying them alive.

i think the Ghouls are made rather than literally summoned from hell. i think Ghouls are members of the cult who are sacrificed and turned into undead servants.

i also like this idea because it means you can come up with backstories for the Ghouls easily!

The Summoning videos use the phrase "THE CLERGY HAS ADJOURNED AND THE NAMELESS GHOULS ARE SUMMONED...", but they didn't mean "summoned" as in like, called up from hell, they just mean "summoned" as in like, called to attend these meetings asdkjfadskjfadsf.

He was worried that he might have overdone it and he scared you. He just needed your attention and not scared you to death.

But little did he know that you screamed not because of terror but of surprise.

Miguel is in mere inches in front of you, holding your shoulders. You can practically smell his rich smell.

The collective of spider people sighed in relief. They were also worried that Miguel had made you stupid after that shake but you seem back to normal and functioning quite well.

Gwen was confused for a second but followed suit.

A. Xavier has been holding back a long time

It's so clear Xavier has been holding back, holding on for SO long. But he's also?? So freaking scared.

BUT THIS RIGHT HERE.

He holds soooo much for that girl who died in his arms; that girl who loved him so much and it was too late before he realized. And now he knows deeply that the roles feel reversed and he's terrified.

B. Contrary to Popular Belief; MC Has A Right To Be A Lil Confused

I don't think they show enough that MC still does fear losing him, and it's so obvious she's so curious about him, and wants to feel closer, but she DOES feel that wall he's built to protect his identity.

I groan a lot at how flippant and distant MC is, almost seemingly constantly rejecting Xavier's affection.

But Idk if you had a coworker who was scarily good at his job, also militant, gone for god knows how long, who knows where, and then was weirdly affectionate but then when you ask him like idk what his favorite color is he gets all "that's classified" which ok hasn't actually happened but it FEELS like it has.

He's always misdirecting anything super deep with her so yeah it goes without saying but she has every right to think that maybe he's trying to keep things professional so why wouldn't she always want to keep things professional even if she wants more?

But now he's actually being really honest. He's telling her things he's held on to for centuries (not that she knows that LOL) and you can literally see the relief in his eyes (and major props to the VA for conveying this cause my godddd it literally sounds like Xavier is TREMBLING??). And she still feels the need to clarify, hey is this real or are you lost in the moment?

Because honestly, I do feel MC does want this and has for so long. Her little "sneaky kiss" was her way of trying to say that like, what took you so long? and yes, because she does want it, she needs to be sure that he's being for real.

And props for Xavier for not wanting a three-peat of what happened with her past versions and all the miscommunication. He's done with that. He's putting his foot down to get what he wants.

C. Xavier Finally Being Honest With Himself

And for a former prince who literally gave up everything for her, he has never once allowed himself to convey just how deeply he does want her, and how much he really actually needs her and wants this with her.

I gotta hand it to @rose-tinted-kalopsia for saying this, too, cause like, this really is him accepting the whole of the past, and all of him, and saying like, "no, it's been like this all along, and I'm done hiding from the past versions, screw that, screw this, I'm getting my happy ending with you."

Cause for all of his sneaking in bits of lore (i freaking died!)

I KNOW IT'S A JAB AT HER PAST SELF I JUST KNOW IT. YOU JUST KNOW HE TENSED A LITTLE BIT AT THE ELOPE LINE.

THAT ARGUMENT HIT TOO CLOSE TO HOME.

They didn't elope because of communication issues!

He did leave and break ties with his family and she couldn't possibly know or remember that (It literally slips out and is not part of the script and you know he feels guilty about it but even that feeling and maybe mixed emotions - not anger but idk maybe a lot of THICK mixed emotions about it; none of which are regret! but STILL) like he has never been able to say it out loud and he does, he DOES. He FINALLY DOES.

So now there's a lot of the table.

D. The Spilled Cherries But It's Not What You Think

It's messy, my god how could it not be. Even the spilled cherries is like.... it's more of like "this is a mess, we're a mess, this relationship is all over the place" and the bowl gets knocked over, cause this whole situation has really literally tipped their bowl over. It's all out on the floor.

All her emotions of feeling that wall that she references a Lot™️ in all their cards, she finally breaks through and gets him to be honest with himself and with her

They actually kinda did sort of have a real genuine argument and maybe it's the first time he felt that way with her and i think honest to god he panicked a little bit - and I think that's why he says "that was normal" to her like, he has to reassure himself that's kinda normal?

good god the cooking!! he really has to wrestle with the fact that there are things he just can't do well all the time and he puts the work in to actually learn and he's semi-decent now! like maybe this man isn't about to make chicken fricassee anytime soon, but he can make some stews and simple dishes. So even that emotion of "i'm learning i'm trying to be better" is out

Their actual physical connection - she's finally stopped pressing him away, and has dropped the denial that she wants it too, but I think mentally she's a bit tired so that bowl toppling over is like, nah man I'm done with this rollercoaster too

They really do have so much synergy. Like who bought the cherries in the first place? She did, because she knows they're his favorite

The shadows merging like- his whole tearing in their earlier conversation "Do you think our shadows look like there's?" they don't specify what they were looking at out the window but it was probably a couple passing by, maybe sharing intimate proximity and a kiss and honestly that's helped tip the bowl too

the cherries being like- almost a metaphor of all these factors; all the times they've had so many, many, many miscommunication issues but it's all gone and said and done now (maybe not ALL but many of their issues)

So I'm really excited to see how it all goes moving forward.

This does not even capture half of my entire breakdown over this card but that's a majority of my brain dump.

The boy is HAPPY, buzzing with excitement and tail wagging at the sight of your homemade donuts or whatever food that you made especially for him!

He spends a few seconds admiring the plating and presentation of the food before finally digging in (by seconds I mean 2 seconds max, he couldn't resist).

He ate and left no crumbs (literally)

Although he retains his cheeky persona while eating and after he finished, he still thanks you a million times for making him such amazing food.

When Ruggie has a rough day or when something's bothering him, he usually calms down when he's eating something you made specifically (and of course with you). It can be the same exact recipe but it just won't hit the same if you aren't the one that cooked it.

You two are now cooking buddies, most of the time you two cook for Leona, though.

Ruggie takes this opportunity to get to know you more, sometimes even lying that he needed some help for one of Leona's dishes just to spend time with you.

If you caught on to his excuses he'll be extremely embarrassed but tries to say it was "to know your secrets to how you cook so well".

If you hadn't, then he'll keep using this excuse, always saying "this is the last time I'll ask!" but ends up asking every week or so with no end.

Maybe on a good day you'll get a "Your cooking's good".

Although it sounds like sarcasm, he really does mean it, he's just not very vocal about it.

"I mean, it's obvious that [Name]'s cooking is good so why do I need to say it?"

It's evident that he really does like whenever you cook for him when you see his tail swaying slowly in the air while you presented some food you made from a recipe you found.

Also the way his ears perk up at the smell of your food.

He's whipped for you and your cooking skills.

Every once in a while when he can't really seem to fall asleep, he likes to stand around in the kitchen with you to watch how you do things, sometimes even helping you in the cooking.

The most he does though is mainly mixing or watching the stove to make sure the food won't burn.

I feel like he can feel a small sense of genuine happiness if he manages to cook a single meal with your help, mostly because he likes doing things with you.

Cooking buddies 2.0

You cook for him a lot and he cooks for you!!

Sometimes you even have little dates where you bake pastries with each other :))

Since Jamil is in charge of Kalim's food most of the time, it's your job to cook equally if not more delicious food for Jamil.

He compliments your cooking a lot, like how the different ingredients blend with each other really well, or how the presentation is very pleasing to the eyes.

But since he's very experienced in the kitchen, he definitely critiques it as well.

He isn't harsh with it, but he points things out that you could take out of/put in the food to improve it.

The first few times you gifted him some food he was definitely confused but took it out of basic etiquette.

After a while he got more used to you showing up to Scarabia with a container of what you recently cooked.

In the books, Sirius's devotion to Harry is of course very deep, but it never translates to something physical. He only shakes Harry's end when he leaves his bedside in book 4, and in book 5 there is something resembling a hug, like twice...? As a dog he stood up his hind legs and front paws on harry's shoulders and a half hug after Christmas. Idk it sort of drives me crazy, because in the movies Harry and Sirius are so affectionate! That first hug when Harry arrives in Grimmauld!! Gary and Dan had an amazing chemistry that other actors were jealous of, they mirrored the book characters, so it palpable on screen, the few scenes Gary is in at all at least.

So, what do you make of this? Do you in musing for art imagine a more affectionate relationship between Harry and Sirius? Maybe if Sirius survived the war? Molly's hug in book 4 was a poignant moment but imo that should have been a moment between Sirius and Harry. Sirius already says he expected something catastrophic to happen to Harry in the third task, that's what he stutters when Harry comes in with Dumblebore. So he is literally afraid of his godsons life and it still shows of course, Sirius staying at Harry's side was very beautifully written, like the devotion is clear, but I am foaming at the mouth for more affection between them in canon? Platonic, not shipping. So between the movies and the books Im just kinda torn what's better

It's more a rant than an ask, sorry lol, but if you have any input I'd he so stoked to read it. Not many peeps in the fandom even give Sirius and Harry any time of day, nvrmind even understand what they had (which also drives me kinda nuts but ok)

Ohhhh, anon, you’ve come to the right spot! Mostly because I love them. I would say that 80% of my fandom interest is just Sirius being a dad to Harry.

To your question, I don’t think one is better than the other. Each has their purpose. Let me share my thoughts:

1. I am soft for movie Sirius and Harry’s affectionate touching. However. The dynamics of their relationship were NOT mirrored from the books, which…is fine. Honestly, I just don’t think it was a priority for the filmmakers. This particular bit doesn’t bother me because the movies are not supposed to replace the source material—they are an interpretation. To me, watching the movies is like reading fic—fun to watch but not canon. Also, the filmmakers removed so much of their relationship in GoF that they HAD to make Sirius and Harry physically affectionate in order for movie audiences to see what losing Sirius would mean to Harry. Their complexity is completely unexplored in the films, and they had to do SOMETHING to get the audience to feel sad when Sirius died. This started in PoA when they really downplayed the context of their relationship. (Lol, see my rant on PoA. I really don’t like that movie hahahahaha.)

2. In the books, Harry and Sirius are not physically affectionate with each other despite their intense love for each other, and I think this is an effective way to show characterization. As I tell my students, this might have been intentional by the author, but it could have been an instinct that she followed (what feels right for the characters).

Here’s what I think: both are so terrified of losing the other that they won’t allow themselves to get too close, and, crucially, they both fear showing vulnerability. Touching someone and reaching out for a hug or comfort is an extremely vulnerable thing to do. If you reach out for a hug, you are showing your true feelings. To be rejected physically is sometimes more devastating than someone telling you to just “go away.” It’s a sign of trust to touch someone—you are trusting that they feel the same way about you, and you are trusting that they won’t pull away. Both Sirius and Harry understand rejection, and both avoid it. How do you avoid rejection? You distance yourself.

I’ll put the rest under a cut because I think this might get long…

Sirius and Harry, for all that they love each other, fall out of trusting each other by OotP. Part of this is trauma, but it is also miscommunication. Harry is worried that Sirius will do something stupid—either out of concern for Harry or because he wants to get out of number 12–but he’s worried he’ll lose Sirius. So by withholding affection (which I’m not sure if he knows how to give physically), Harry distances himself from Sirius which will, theoretically, keep Sirius safe (of course, it backfires). Sirius is…you know…going through stuff in OotP. He is already vulnerable—he perceives himself as being emasculated because he’s not allowed to leave his childhood home and he’s relegated to performing ‘uninteresting, domestic work’, and he must be inactive when he’s a man OF action.

When it comes to Goblet of Fire and the odd handshake… I think Sirius is reeeeeally holding back. Harry does NOT want him to go, and Sirius knows this. (Why DOES Dumbledore send him away? Literally anyone else could have “alerted the old crowd” and NOT the convicted murderer. This is clearly the author’s excuse to get Sirius away from Harry—and, I’ve spoken to this before, Sirius is too much of a miracle character—too smart, too loyal, too loving to support the story that the author wanted to tell.) Sirius, if he had stayed, would have been the emotional support that Harry needed. So if Sirius holds Harry, what if Harry doesn’t let go? What if Sirius himself can’t let go? A handshake will have to do.

So Sirius leaves Harry with that bizarre handshake. That Sirius leaves at all damages their relationship—it could have been repaired with time (if they’d been allowed time), but this moment makes Harry realize that he cannot rely on anyone, not even Sirius. This leaves Harry to be isolated in OotP, and it leaves him to feel like he cannot trust anyone. I’m not blaming Sirius for leaving, but I believe this action causes a rift between them that carries into the next book.

My point is, I HATE that they don’t touch but it is very important that they don’t, at least when it comes to the story that the author wanted to tell. I think it was the right move when we look at the story as a whole. Do I like it? NO! But it’s interesting, and it DOES feel right for them. Is it devastating? Yes!!!!!!!

TL;DR: I don’t think either interpretation is necessarily better than the other, but they both have their purpose. Both are effective!

Touch is…huge in HP. Consider Voldemort’s “I can touch him now” and causing Harry pain. Touch is a privilege, and to be touched without permission is a violation. Harry kills someone by touching them. He is only touched by his family when Dudley beats him up or he gets shoved in his cupboard.

Weirdly, one of my absolutely favorite moments when Sirius and Harry touch is in PoA when the Dementors are closing in on Sirius, Harry, and Hermione, and Harry, as he’s about to faint, reaches out to grab an unconscious Sirius by the arm, thinking something along the lines of “the dementors weren’t going to take him” and such. And this is about two seconds after Harry has accepted that Sirius is telling the truth! Harry physically tethers Sirius to him—this touch-starved teen reaches out to this man who is now everything to him, who is now his only real family, willing to risk death (or worse) to keep it. BUT THEY JUST MET!!!!! Devastating!!!

Also…another thought: the first time Sirius and Harry touch is the first time Sirius has been touched as a human in twelve years. And Harry is beating the absolute shit out of him…and then Sirius nearly strangles him…

Also, also, not to like…self-promote, but if you want some Sirius & Harry family feelings and a wee bit of affectionate touching, I wrote a one-shot where they talk about their feelings in OotP.

Buddie: Marketing Tatic or Something Else?

Hello! Back on my big brain I cant sleep stuff.

I've been a Buddie fan for over a few months now (idk how time works) and have lived through the beautiful bi buck confirmation.

Now I do have some think pieces about queer representation in American media and in different countries (i literally spend all my time watching tv I'm a conessiur or sorts) and how they differ on impact/deal with issues etc.

What I woke up thinking about is something that's bugging me a bit about Oliver and his interviews.

If we're (both the ga and buddie fans) supposed to be convinced about this new relationship the writing and promotion MUST be changed.

Let me explain.

Tommy, Tevan whatever you want to call it is Buck's newest relationship.

It's a new relationship with a similar set up/feeling around it.

The only way I think Buddie can be override/mitigated is if they have a doctor love interest who consistently stays over the course of seasons who has their own backstory and storyline.

I'm starting to swing my eyes at ABC and their marketing team now.

Madney's wedding coming up and we barely saw either of them ( granted kudos on keeping this all under wraps y'all) and they've been hanging a shiny bell in front of us as distraction like a baby.

Look at the shiny buddie then BAM character death!

But anyways, I have been thinking about Oliver and all of his recent press and just the way Busdie has been uttered and whipped around like a tennis ball.

He currently has a boyfriend but the way it's been discussed and portrayed has me a bit dazed.

I wanna be a bit objective (I'm asking the big questions here)

The main problem is the Buddie relationship and how it's portrayed/written and had continued to be this season.

If you compare the past seasons and how they've developed as let's face it a couple, because there's no way to deny it as they've been written to parallel in unverse and other show romantic heterosexual relationships.

They quite literally qualified for a queer platonic relationship (if you wanted to view it that way. I however have not. I say let the gays free!/j)

If they intended for it to be platonic let it BE platonic.

They shouldn't be doing an if, of the gender was swapped would it be romantic/ship coded?

They literally have that in the show already. Bobby and Chim, Bobby and Eddie, hell Chim and Eddie (do they even have solo scenes together???).

I'm not gonna lie, bi buck episode was a bait and switch (beautifully done and still very infuriating all the same).

He's also a Buddie warrior so I can't really fault him on how he talks about it it's been like 6 years he's had the same partner with the domestic (cough sexual tension cough) with.

Use flyers (similar to the ones used to say that one of the dispatch crew was attending) to get fans buzzed about watching the show in a few weeks as though they're rsvp'ing, talk about past scenes, more interviews centering the couple and what they thought about the episode, a promotional photoshoot?

Photoshoot in a magazine with jlh and Ken would've been really cute. Madney fans would then be happy. (I'm included🙋🏾‍♀️ give the beautiful couple their photos i wanna see it😤 my little queer heart and eyes demands it)

Literally would've been the perfect time to pair up with some wedding magazine or something. Literally a million ways to go about it.

Madney in formal wedding clothes, then a dystopian kind of dress clothes to reflect the chaotic wedding ending.

Use a highlight reel.

Similar you are cordially invited to a 911 wedding -

Show madney karaoke, engagement ring being missing, proposal, hugs after hostage, this season cute date idea and excitement for the wedding then a simple where's chimney.

Then put the bachelor stuff then have him crawling.

Something as simple as that puts more of the focus on madney visually and marketing wise.

For the interviews they could've split it between Oliver talking about bisexuality and the other two talking about relationship and the high beats and low beats and how it felt to play.

How their relationship developed as costars and what the characters mean to them.

Split it down the middle so both fans are appeased.

I am a fan of all characters and this is really funny because I the first half of this one morning I woke up before the scene was even mentioned being cut but i was like there's a shift in something and it's not good🤣 as expected something went wrong)

Though I'm pretty sure the fans of both will be happy because Buddie are going to be the comic relief so they'll have a decent amount of time as the blockers so to say because we will know who's gonna kidnap Chimney. He only had one enemy??

But yeah this was a Tuesday thing I wrote and it's now very hilarious in hindsight and in the future.

i think the intersection of fanfiction and tik tok is so interesting. you’ll get a tok that has a screenshot of a page of fanfic, only to find out it’s the actual literal author posting it trying to get people to read it. adding on the discussion of famous ppl in fandom, it feels a little weird to see self promo like this? do u know what i mean?

like fanfic is about writing bc you want to, for whatever reason. but it feels in the wake of miss king bean and zar, it’s starting to feel like ppl are searching out notoriety? i think what makes fandom such a cool place is that it’s anonymous. like idk who this person is but i know they write beautifully, and they’re in school for a medical degree, and they have shit going on in their life but they’re trying to post semi regularly. u know? it’s about the people in it, not the being known of it.

and i haven’t personally written any fanfiction, but i don’t think it’s about how many hits or how many kudos you get. u know? it’s like who doesn’t want validation that way right? but that’s not really what ao3 is about. it’s a way to show appreciation sure, but it’s not a popularity contest. idk maybe i’m overstepping here but it feels like new writers want to be popular overnight, and we’re in one of the largest fandoms on ao3. that’s just not possible.

Micaaaaaa I am in need of a good TV show. IWTV left me craving for some good writing, please help 💙 I know some of your all-time favourites are Black Sails and The Wire, I gave them a try, but I'm afraid they're a bit too bleak for me :(( Any good recs?

Bestie this is a great question and im honestly a terrible person to direct it to because the truth is I really don't watch a ton of tv! But I'm gonna do my best!

(Totally get Black Sails and the Wire feeling too heavy. The wire in particular is imo the single most upsetting thing thats ever been put on television so I completely get not being up for it. But if anyone else is looking for shows I think are really well written those would be good places to start! Black Sails would be my first rec for iwtv fans tbh)

Dramas with syfy/fantasy elements:

Russian Doll: for literally anyone other than you (who's already watched it!) this would be my number one rec. One of the best (and specifically best written) shows of all time, has those spec fic surrealist elements, combines comedy and drama, just love it.

Andor: I know, I was surprised too. But despite being a star wars tv show it actually has writers that do a? good? job? And Diego Luna is spectacular. (If black sails was too grim this might also feel that way given our knowledge of the main character's fate, but it might be worth checking out anyway)

Not sf:

Reservation Dogs: Taika Watiti can be hit or miss for me, but this show is the best of his particular combination of humor and pathos. Also he's just really good at writing kids? (I would be remiss if I didn't point out that he has been (rightfully!) criticized for the antiblackness of couple of minor characters who appropriate black culture pretty egregiously, iirc they don't feature after season 1? But it is a flaw to be aware of). Why didn't I put this with the sitcoms? My mind is mysterious even to me

Bad Sisters: great 1 season irish show about a group of sisters trying to murder their sister's abusive husband. Again a really strong writing combo of humor and genuine emotion!

The Get Down: still not over this cancellation it hurt me in ways I can't even begin to explain... anyway a great show about the birth of rap in 70s nyc with beautifully thought out costumes, music, writing, visual style <3

The Americans: two russian spys undercover as an american suburban couple in the 80s is actually a vehicle for a probing exploration of marriage and intimacy. Also pretty grim (the cold war. yeah.) so idk if it would be for you.

The Knick: nobody ever watches this when I rec it because it's too gorey but I don't care! I love it! Period drama about a public hospital in early 1900s new york.

Sitcoms!: (sorry I know you've watched half of these just wanted to include them in case anyone else looked at this list!)

Derry Girls: this show is just hit after hit. Best written show about teens in the world!

We Are Lady Parts: See this entire blog. Genuinely one of the best shows ever made

American Vandal: Ok technically this is more of a mockumentary than a sitcom but i wasn't sure where else to put it. Season one in particular is some of the best tv show writing I've ever watched it is perfect in every way!

MASH: 70s sitcom about a US military field hospital during the Korean War. At its best it's hysterically funny, absurdist, and bitingly furiously anti-war. (At its worst it's racist, sexist, and boring. It was the 70s) This show was a cultural phenomenon, but it has literally over 200 episodes so I would recommend just googling for a best-of list and watching a handful to see if it works for you.

Atlanta: Donald Glover's surrealist sitcom about trying to manage his cousin's rap career in Atlanta. That's such a bad explanation of what this show is about i'm sorry but I'm not sure how to do better.

Shows I've watched between 1 episode and 1 season of, thought to myself "wow! this show is amazing!" but can't in good conscience recommend because I never really watched enough of them to qualify as an expert:

The Sopranos: everyone says it's the best tv show of all time and i watched season one, said wow they're right! and still haven't managed to get back to it! The pilot itself is so fucking funny like... mobster goes to therapy for his anxiety had to have been the pitch of all time

Station eleven: LOVED the book, heard really good things about the tv show, thought the pilot was amazing, got busy and couldn't finish it.

Babylon Berlin: this has the darkly romantic, opulent qualities of iwtv so it might be for you! Unfortunately I've seen less than half of it so I can't promise it doesn't go off the rails.

Breaking Bad: people are right! it's good! It's also (at least in season one, the only season I've watched so far) like someone made a slapstick comedy about a man cooking meth. In a good way!

You might want to just watch a couple gothic romances to scratch that iwtv itch! Check out an adaptation of Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights!

Finally finished Siege of Darkness!

Ngl, I was really worried there that I would be struggling with it for months. But as soon as Drizzt and Catti-Brie claimed friendship it became smooth sailing. For me, that is, the reader. Everyone else had a rough time.

Some highlights:

Really appreciated the Jarlaxle moments—he honestly carried the beginning chapters for me. Thank you, Jarlaxle for your cautious and duplicitous ways (and even some honest ways) for getting me past the Problem™️. I really felt for you when you realized you were in the toils and was glad that got all sorted out.

Guenhwyvar is amazing as always and even though I knew she couldn’t be gone for long I was still worried for her—the permanence of the word choice is what stressed me out. But then the pattern went back into play and I was calm again.

Lloth/Lolth - get your spelling sorted out plz but really it was fun to see the chaos bringer bring, well, chaos. You are an awful deity, keep doing what you do! Positive I know who you just gave to Errtu, though.

Bruenor…just so glad you got to be the one to deliver that blow! Also, so happy he met his ancestor! Finally!

BELWAAAAARRRRRR!!!!! :DDDDDDD

Drizzt used his bracers to do something to his legs, right? Since his arms couldn’t keep up? Idk it’s just the way the story kept mentioning and mentioning that he was weirdly fast that gave me that thought. Either way, ray of sunshine in bad times is here in the form of Drizzt.

Catti-Brie had a lot of cool fights! Especially near the end! She and the sword seem to be getting along. Don’t know how long that will last. But still cool!

Alustriel and the Silverymoon force. I had my qualms before but I like them all now. I feel bad for her…she has the VHD issue of: she was so beautiful! She moved her beautiful hair behind her beautiful ear, and beautiful-ed her way down the stairs beautifully. She is cool. Author needs to chill.

Some I wanted more of:

The Time of Troubles came and went REALLY quickly. I would have loved to spend more time on the houses losing their collective shit because their magic wasn’t working as expected. I really think it would have allowed for some insight on more of the houses.

More Svirfneblin stuff!!! Gimme more Deep Gnome lore :o

More Jarlaxle. Can’t get enough of that guy.

Things I could have done without:

The Relationship™️ which is a little bit of a mood killer since it’s canon (I LOVE both of them—just not with each other)

All of the sexual uncomfortableness with Catti-Brie. She’s a grown woman, yeah, but that was not how to get me to like Wulfgar’s people or his successor at all. And the sword thing? I would have found it more palatable IF it was literally the sword begging to be held and not possessed Catti-Brie. I think it was meant to be awkward, and uncomfortable, but it came off more like author trying to show that Drizzt was such a good guy for not doing her then and there and it was all kinds of unnecessary. (Don’t get me wrong—I enjoy smut, I enjoy a well written relationship…I will whine about this forever)

On the whole, I enjoyed the book. I think I would still place it before The Crystal Shard, but those are my two lowest rated books for the series rn. And I like them. So that’s good, right?

leik. i can't stop thinking of the 'black mass in his brain' and it's making me think of zeus/jupiter head birthing athena/minerva.

my first thoughts went to what compound v did to cancer in the john and sun-hee diabolical episode (also that was beautifully written bittersweet tragic horror, can never not appreciate that enough<3), and to be fair, v can be a lil unpredictable

also would technically require confirmation that billy had legit brain cancer (i think) prior to taking temp v and this is what temp v did to it/brought it alive as its own entity but it's dying since it was only temp v?? idk i guess that kinda deal. (but i also wouldn't put it past the v to have given him cancer... idk, billy don't strike me as all that healthy habit wise to begin with)

there's something to explore there where this *thing* would actually be responsible for the lasers from billy's eyes instead of him/could be why he felt so... out of control so to speak (if we don't go with the whole he was straight up overloaded with unfamiliar power he was highly sensitive to lol altho hughie seemed pretty damn *in* control by comparison)

it could also be something more like a physical manifestation of his obsession with homelander (which i also wouldn't put past v as it's able to do some wild fuckin' stuffs) that only grew with more use of temp v but is dying without it now/may convince him to take real v so it can separate from him

what if, ya know? billy's brain rot for homelander/possible cancer + temp v = headcase minerva/athena baby or literal manifestation of billy's obsession as a separate entity

what if it leaves and takes the obsession with it? or even views *homelander* as its 'father'? joins or aims to destroy them both?

i don't wanna say butchlander cause it's technically much more sinister than that here LMAO but i guess it's technically the most realistic/canon oriented option of 'butchalnder' potentially happening on the show. something dark and twisted and super fucked up that does a deep dive and full embrace into the horror themes<3

THOUGHTS ON YOUR FAV SPIDERMAN RUN KING? 🎤

okay. i have two favorites. there is jms's run (DESPITE sins past and omd bc those were editorial pushing that onto spider-man's narrative and it just happened to be him writing asm at the time so he was stuck with those shitty storylines. i also didnt like the spider-totem shit bc imo it goes against the core of spider-man which is that he wasnt "the chosen one" and that anyone can be spider-man but i will forgive jms for this) and there is friendly neighborhood spider-man 2019 which. believe it or not was by tom taylor. do not like the guy but that run was REALLY good but jms is still on top for me he just gets spider-man sooooo much tbh

jms's spider-man is good for many reasons to me, aside from the storylines being fun in general like even tho omd was ass it was written beautifully. peter and mj's goodbye brought tears to my eyes even tho i hate that stupid fucking idea im glad it was jms that executed it bc at least the writing was beautiful. AND what came before omd was back in black which is one of my favorite peter storylines in the entire world bc jms does write peter as a funny guy while also having him be hot-headed and vengeful and a dick ESPECIALLY when people he loves are on the line and this is something that many modern writers forgettttt omfgggg they diagnosed him with funnyguy disease and he has NO OTHER traits and he's so shallow but with jms he's real because you can tell his humor and his flippantness is an act and that he is VERY intense as a person which ... duh. his guilt is what gets him into spider-manning and then that guilt grows into a sense of responsibility and a care for community and people and that is something else i love about jms is the community in his stories !!! many of his storylines are focused on the neighborhood rather than him fighting outer space aliens or some shit its literally just him helping his neighbors and sometimes not even as spider-man but as peter which i love. and he's a teacher in this run too which is one of my favorite jobs peter has ever had because i think it fits him very well and he loves it and i wish he had gotten to keep it.

this run is so earnest and sincere and so many panels and conversations with mj and may make me insane but its still funny and it shows you who peter really is as a character i wish i could explain it with words but ill show you my favorite panels later instead. petermj is also at its heigh here and i think that if anybody were to read any peter run it should be jms's. i just think that overall jms shows you that despite peter's humor you still see how much he cares about people and how earnest he really is despite the whimsy (sigh) and though he's rude and a dick he does put his heart into everything it's just that the entire world is so against him and so his guilt and his grief and his choices eat at him no matter the outcome.

i also love this run bc mj knows about spider-man and may finds out and it just makes me think wowwww wwhat we could have had if omd had not happened. i get peter and his secrets blah blah but i hated that so many people do not know anymore after bc come on. ESPECIALLY mj and may (and the f4 and matt as well tbh but. for another day) and idk this run shows u a little glimpse of how much better it is when pete's loved ones know about his other life. idk. this was a small thing but whatever

i honestly think each event is written by a different set of writers. and you can tell when a writer has a particular favourite or dislikes a particular character. they commit complete character assassination or don’t even bother

like omg no way they made kojuro act surprised over a woman being interested in politics as if he doesn’t have a literal voice diary saying “women are the future”. his whole character revolves around appreciating strong women. he doesn’t call his lady “miss” for no reason 😭

also no yeah for nobu, i actually appreciated how attentive and empathetic he was in the beginning. but i didn’t like what the writers did in terms of addressing what happened to MC at the end :/ like MC herself doesn’t address it sigh

but yeah this event… idk i didn’t quite like it very much. masamune would NEVER but also, his lady would never try to take advantage of him like that either. they’re both gentle angels who love each other and always seem to be on the same wavelength.

the writers tried to use the jealousy trope but bc they’ve already used it before, they tried a different more “fiery” angle. and it failed.

but yeah idk who wrote this event, it was terrible. the consecrated vows event was actually really REALLY good. shingen’s event was so beautifully written. to go from that to this… nah man. voltage doesn’t have the best writing but they can still do better than this.

i hate nothing more than when they make the characters act ooc. or they try to hard to push a particular trope. like with ieyasu. in his main story he’s got such beautiful development but some of his event stories truly ruin his character :// even nobunaga. his ES are not as bad but he’s such a goofy guy idk why they don’t show more of that. you would never know his true character unless you play his MS

Ngl I was just glad to see the back of that event. I tend to really like exploring the characters' flaws and insecurities. Even good relationships often have cracks in them, which is part of what makes them interesting. I think growing with someone involves a lot of willingness to bare your jagged edges and try to fit them together.

But, I'll be honest and say I don't personally vibe with otome storylines that leave me wanting to slip the MC the phone number of the local women's shelter hotline. There's an audience for that, I'm sure. I'm just...not it. And the characters did feel. Well. Out of character to some degree.

I do want to engage with Nobu more. He comes across so terribly in Mitsuhide's stories and I have a reflexive tendency to avoid his character type, but I'm always a bit curious about his own perspective.

Favorite Character: Bokuto-And-Akaashi. (sorry. they're joined at the hip. I literally cannot choose.) (If you held a knife to my throat I would say Bokuto. But it's such a close call, you have no idea.)

Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: Easy - the training camp arc. Also if Fukurodani's match will be animated I will cry. If it will not get animated I will rage. And then cry. So there's that.

Character I Think is Underrated: Nishinoya. Also Kita. I adore them.

Character I Think is Overrated: (oh god don't come for me.) Tsumu. Listen it's NOT that I don't like him. It's just that I watched the show before reading the manga, the show made the very unfortunate decision not to continue after the game against Inarizaki, and mostly I ended up really loving the characters AFTER their games. Time-skip though is a different matter entirely.

Favorite Ship/Pairing: BOKUAKA. Always.

Something I Love About the Show/Movie: How beautifully each character is written. It's very difficult to really dislike any of them!

Favorite Character: Andrew. He chose violence and held my heart ever since.

Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: "You gave me a key and called it home." Also the whole hotel scene. Oh, and "Thank you. You were amazing."

Character I Think is Underrated: Wymack.

Character I Think is Overrated: Honestly none of them. Riko. by the media.

Star Trek:

Favorite Character: Jim Kirk, mostly because he's such a smart dumbass.

Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: since we're talking about AOS, the whole scene where Jim dies. I mean. It was the scene that got me into Star Trek. I remember texting my friend like "listen, idk who they are but they are canonically gay right?" Imagine my shock when I realised that it was not, in fact, canon.

Character I Think is Underrated: Chekov. (I'd say Bones because I love him but he's definitely not underrated.)

Character I Think is Overrated: Ohhhhh I don't actually have one?

Favorite Ship/Pairing: Kirk/Spock. In any universe.

Something I Love About the Show/Movie: That it was never about war. That they took the question, "but what if there's aliens??" and made it about science, and research, and interracial relationships.

Once Upon a Broken Heart:

Favorite Character: Evangeline. Out of any female character Stephanie Garber has written, she's the Queen of my Heart (oh, the irony.)

I mean, "children treat their toys better than you treated me"? Yes, queen.

Favorite Arc/Episode/Scene: Not gonna spoil anything. But the end of book two. If you know, you know.

Character I Think is Underrated: Lala, maybe? I also have to admit I have a fondness for Luc, even if he's an idiot.

Character I Think is Overrated: I'm sorry, I know it's not her storyline, but she's in the book so it counts: I really, really, REALLY disliked Tella. She annoyed me literally every time she had a thought, and I hated that she's so obviously the author's favourite. Scarlett deserved better.

Favorite Ship/Pairing: Evajacks.

Something I Love About the Show/Movie: Enemies to Lovers. Also the whole atmosphere of the book. It really felt like a slightly warped fairytale.
