Keeper of the Lost Cities meta: a hopefully-not-too-critical analysis

Starting off by saying that this whole thing is a just little too pretentious and a just little too fueled by irritation so don't take everything I say as fact! I'm just kind of ranting about things that I feel like most people are annoyed with (?) please share your thoughts with me! I think it's important for discourse like this to happen to keep fandoms alive!! non-Keeper mutuals feel free to DISREGARD!

First of all Keeper has such a special place in my heart, I started reading the series when I was 12 and I'm 16 now, so I really did kind of grow up with the books. I LOVED the series as a kid and hyperfixated on it for a really long time. As the series progresses and as I read it from a different lens, I'm seeing all of the flaws so much more clearly, so this whole rant basically stems from realizing something so special to me is flawed media and wanting to get my thoughts somewhere. All of this comes from a loving place! I'm just putting down my top few issues with the series and my opinions on a lot of different elements <3

DISCLAIMER I'm doing a reread but I'm only on book 1 and my memory is shit. Any false information is literally not my fault leave me alone

1. Length, redundancy, and predictability

This one really starts in Flashback #7 for me. It will always, always evade me why that book contains ~300 straight pages of Sophitz fluff and fucking around in the healing center. I know that a lot of people enjoyed those parts, which is totally valid! Shipping is a cornerstone of this series! But for me it felt so pointless and fan servicey, idk. And this is maybe my biggest problem with the books: they drag. We're at 9 and a half books now, each spanning like 500-800 pages, and the plot drags and drags and drags. I don't know if Shannon's publisher makes her fill a certain number of pages or what, but I feel like at least 100 pages of bullshit could be cut from each book and nothing would change. They start to almost follow a formula: 200 or so pages of figuring out the Neverseen's plan of the hour, another 200-ish to plan how to defeat them, and then finally we learn that the Neverseen is actually always one step ahead and the crew gets crushed oh my god tragic!! It worked as a subversion of expectations the first couple times but by now I feel like most people could basically just predict what's going to happen in any given book. Sometimes I wonder got left on the cutting room floor because it feels like SM wrote a first draft, barely trimmed it down, and published just that. The plot spins in circles, the protagonists are confused yet again, I am pulling my hair out in chunks.

It's a huge turn-off to a lot of new readers seeing these super thick books, and it's even a turn-off to me when I do rereads because surprise surprise, I don't actually really give a fuck if Fitz likes Sophie back, or at least not enough to read 300 pages on it per book. If the books were more concise, not only would that fix a lot of the plot and character development issues, it would also make them way more digestible because to be honest with you I probably couldn't remember half of what happens in most of them.

2. Sophie...

I think this is a very polarizing opinion but I just kind of don't like Sophie as a main character? I honestly think she's fallen victim to becoming a Mary Sue and not even in a "wehhh powerful woman make me mad" type way! It's just that Sophie at her fullest power is undeniably the most powerful elf in a battle, so to counteract this, Shannon has to keep finding ways for the Neverseen to take away Sophie's power. Whether through the whole "she can only inflict everyone at once" thing or breaking every bone in her hand or creating forcefields or literally fucking anything to stop this kid with five million superpowers, they have to find a way to effectively tie her down so the battles seem somewhat realistic. This then creates a weird pattern where every battle goes one of two ways: Neverseen finds a way to effectively debilitate Sophie and all her friends, or she just goes fucking sicko mode and destroys everyone. You just can't have a main character who's this much ahead of everyone else in terms of raw power.

For me, I think the biggest issue with Sophie is she's not relatable to the average reader. The age demographic for Keeper is preteens and teens. How many 13 year olds are the most powerful, unstoppable person in their friend group, in which three hot guys are head-over-heels in love with them, living in very comfortable conditions, with like five hundred friends? If you were that fucking baller at 13 then go fuck yourself that's super cool for you! But the core pillars of Sophie's life, disregarding the all the magical stuff (which obviously requires some suspension of disbelief) are simply not relatable or recognizable to the average reader. So how are we as readers supposed to feel connected to Sophie's life and situation if we never have (and let's face it, never will) experience anything close to the more realistically human parts of her life?

3. Character development (and the lack thereof)

Say what you will but to me the character development is so pale and arguably just doesn't exist. It feels like everyone has become so one-dimensional, so predictable, and so limp. Sophie has it the worst because we read from her POV, so all of her quirks and thoughts become really fucking annoying to read over and over again. For example, The whole oblivious "omg does Dex like me? does Keefe like me? DO I LIKE FITZ???" thing was cute when she was 12 back in book one but by now I am genuinely tearing my hair out when I have to read "Sophie blushed" every two pages. The whole "I'm a freak and nothing I do ever works and all is hopeless" thing was easy to feel sympathy for the first few times, but by now it's just kind of... exhausting? It feels like the naïve, oblivious Sophie from book 1 is exactly the same person as Stellarlune Sophie, no matter how many hideouts SM makes her burn down to prove she's ruthless or something. At this point, I feel like Sophie's choices throughout the series end up either being really predictable or wildly out of left field.

Every character other than Fitz, Keefe, and Sophie (and you could make a case for the three of them too) have become a shadow of themselves and they all get at most two conversations worth of pagetime. This can be attributed to a lot of things that I don't feel like talking about so here they are in point form: excessive focus on the main "love triangle", overloaded cast of protagonists, too much emphasis on A) furthering the plot and B) Sophie's inner thoughts instead of character relationships and found family. I think the books have lost sight of the original love, trust, and bond created by the five mains, and those super interesting dynamics between the different sets of friends that were so abundant in the first few installements have become few and far between. When I was a kid, I loved the books for the warm friendships and soft moments between Sophie and Dex, and now we're lucky if they even really talk to each other if not to push the plot. Biana barely exists, Marella and Linh show up every once in a while to be gay as fuck and then leave, Stina turned nice and then immediately went back to being a bitch because SM, for some reason, un-did all her redemption, and everyone else fucks around until they're plot-relevant. Where's the squad where's the crew where's the homoerotic undertones?!

4. Miscellaneous whining

Fitz's character is wildly inconsistent imo. I love you Sophie but I'm going to consistently get mad at you over irrelevant things and ice you out even though you need my support! Your boyfriend is for the streets girl

Fuck this whole half-book thing I'm sorry. Understandably, things have slowed down now that SM has two kids and I'm really truly happy for her and I'm glad she's taking time out of her work for herself and her family. But when she keeps releasing these weird novellas every year as some kind of "solution", it really just seems like a cop-out or a cash grab. I wish we could tell Shannon that we don't necessarily need a 700+ page novel to consider it a book! I personally would love if book 10 was more concise!! Let's just get this plot moving a bit!!

Sophie burning Gisela's book BURNS MY BLOOD. SM just had no fucking idea what she wanted that book to say + it would probably end the series too quick so she got Sophie to burn the most crucial piece of information they could have ever used under pretense of "refusing to follow Gisela's trap" or whatever OH MY GOD

Sooo many dropped plot lines/plot holes there is no way this shit is being resolved in the next 1 and a half books. See you all in 2034 for book 13.125

Sokeefe endgame was great but so predictable. Half the reason most people read this series is for the will-they-won't-they thing with Sophie, Fitz, and Keefe (justice for Dex!), and I think it was executed very badly. You could predict that Sophie and Fitz would burn out, you could predict that she would end up with Keefe, there was net 0 suspense by the time Fitz made his 500th dick move. I know I just complained about things being stretched out for so long but this one could have done with some taking it slow without making it obvious what was going to happen

Anyways this all comes from a place of loving frustration. Oh Keeper my love, look what has become of you. Ultimately, SM started a fantasy series without knowing the ending, and it's spun out of control, but what can you do? I appreciate the series for what it is, I wish it was better, but I'll always love it. Through all my bitching and moaning I'm still rereading it to this day so who's really winning here? One thing that has always annoyed me about the fandom is this whole.. standby lesbians thing with rosemary. This has been said so many times before but I'm saying it again cause it's STILL annoying and people still do it so like. . Often they're just sort of. Being there. In the background of other(mostly MLM) ships, serving as this prop. Like when people draw davekat/dirkjake/pepsicola/etc they're always doing something like talking or cuddling or shopping or it's like a shitpost about divorce or something or whatever. But very often when i see rosemary it's like. They're just eerily standing next to one another and smiling. Like almost the entire fandom agrees that it's a good ship, but literally no one actually wishes to understand their personalities or their bond beyond that. It's just. Prim and proper lesbian rep to fill in the gaps. Much of their tags on social media are filled with this very bland fanon version of them, and very often it's accompanied by a different, more characterized ship as the main focus of the post. They're just kinda there to sit still and look pretty. Like I've seen people crackship yaoi just for the sake of yaoi and call it the ship of the century but the same group would tell you that rosemary is boring because uhhhhh smart words and uhh girl read book. The ao3 tag is also atrocious. I need to break my neck to find good content for one of the only canon pairings in HS 💀

sadly this doesn’t just happen in homestuck, this happens in almost every fandom. and then ppl ask why sapphic creators are so LOUD???. someone has to provide the actually accurate awesome stuff… it’s so funny because whenever i read a wlw fic with an mlm side pairing they still do them justice… i feel like a wlw fic author will drop the best interpretations of mlm couples and then an mlm fic writer will just like make the background wlw characters sit there and do nothing most of the time.

i feel like a lot of authors lack the crucial understanding that everyone is always going through something. when characters aren’t in a certain scene they’re still doing something in the story. like where is the background tea. where is the nasty deets. things dont always happen in a linear clear perfect way like i think while dave is figuring out what touches are in which quadrants we should have rose and kanaya start gaslighting karkat into believing he is made of earth crab. let rose fake her own death with kanaya and have terezi conduct a case while davekat suck face yk. we’re all a little silly

Idk if anyone else is like this but I would have been more OK with e/riel if it wasn't for the shipers. Every time I see an anti nesta/lucien/gwyn etc post it's always an e/riel (or a toxic fey/sand/feyre stan but I think those usually overlap, I guess shiping e/riel effects the way they act about their other ships/faves too). I'm new to the fandom (I got into it post hosab so maybe them making the book about themselves might have already pissed me off too) and I'm usually pretty open with letting people ship what they like but e/riel has become almost a red flag for me tbh. Like, I'm an elucien and tbh I even feel more comfortable seeing elain/tamlin content than e/riel because I know that at least the people behind it are just having fan and not harassing real human beings online.

i agree. i've said before that e/riel, in theory, is something i'd normally ship (i like broody boys and soft girls ok) and that if sjm does decide to go in that direction (which i highly doubt at this point but you know) i'm sure she could make me like it in some capacity. but the fandom absolutely ruins it for me. they took a ship i just didn't care for and made me despise it. i rarely hate ships this much, i can only think of three and one of them i don't even really hate anymore 😭

the (annoying) thing with e/riels is they try and act like they're somehow the elite when it comes to elain and that if you don't do everything the exact way they'd do it, you're wrong and a misogynist and you hate elain when........ that's not how it works. i don't ship tamlin and elain at all but even they are more interesting than what the fuck ever it is that e/riel could bring to the table lmfao. once you stop taking e/riels' out of context quotes and fabricated recounts of the books as fact, you discover that there's next to nothing for e/riel in the actual series. their fandom relies solely on headcanons and aesthetics and that's fine but when they go around and try to act like all of their fanfics are things that happened in canon? no. but you know what actually did happen? azriel underestimating elain and trying to stop her from doing something she said she wanted to do. very sexy 😍

I don’t know about top ten, I love all of their interractions tbh, they just remind me of my fav type of romance in general. I know what are my top 5 I think, but after that I love everything, so it’s hard to rate.

1. My absolutely favorite moment will forever be the one, where Rin describes the way he sees Haru in the water, I’m seriously forever in awe, because, I’ve read a lot of books, and like... even period dramas got nothing on Rin Matsuoka, when he describes the love of his life. I mean, seriously, find yourself a person who sees you the way Rin sees Haru lol

Rin felt like he was touched by the light, that surrounded him with warmth. He turned around to see Haruka, who was glowing. Shining. Haruka was shining with every strong and confident stroke that he made. The outstanding energy, emitted from him, surrounded Haruka with the dazzling light and Rin froze, unable to look away. Rin’s heart was beating so hard in his chest, that he forgot how to breathe. Haruka stole his heart. And the further away he got from him, the more distance grew between them, the more uneasy Rin felt, like he was losing the control over his emotions. He was possesed by Haruka’s shining. His strokes looked as if he was hugging the water, his leg movements were so effortless and so elegant, as if water herself was moving him to the finish line. But in all these deceptively smooth and unhurried motions were so much strength and power and such incredible speed, that all his opponents didn’t stand a chance. His swimming was that transcendent reality. He was like a bird dancing in the sky with its wings spread wide.”

Dude... I’m like... still speechless. I mean, and not just this, but everytime Rin talks about Haru, even when he jokes about his stupid habbits, you still feel that he finds him so beautiful, inside and outside, that it just makes my heart melt. 

2. When Aki tells Rin that if you put him and Haru together, you get a perfection. 

“That guy has no sense of humor. He should learn by watching me, don't you think?" Rin joked lightly.

Aki laughed a bit at his words. "It's true. Add the two of you together and divide by two, and it would be perfect."

But I mainly love that moment, because like... Aki starts telling him, that Haru is not what he's pretending to be (like for some idiots in the fandom who call him selfish, that was the explanation for them xD) and how everyone always want something from him, and he never asks for anything in return and doesn’t have anyone to lean on (yup that’s what I said all along, too, with Makoto’s dumb behavior in difficult situations, he’s on his own there lmao). And she waits for Rin to deny it or like be surprised, but it turned out that that’s exactly how Rin sees him and that he cracked him from the very beginning. BTW, here’s your addition to the ask about Rin loving Haru for who he is and seeing him for who he is. I’m just in love with that moment, because I’m happy that he just... not only he knows him, but bc he’s not one of those many idiots who just don’t get it.

"Nanase-kun seems like he can do anything all by himself, doesn't he? He's good at studying and sports and even art. He really can do anything, right? That's why everyone relies on him, but it would really be something for Nanase-kun to rely on anyone, wouldn't it?"

Rin certainly thought this was true. He had only just transferred, but the image that Rin had of Haruka was exactly that. But even if Haruka didn't have the will to go out and get involved with other people on his own, it wasn't like he was completely isolated. On the contrary, he was considered the most reliable person in their class, and when people relied on him, he always did his best to meet their expectations. This was the strange balance that people around Haruka had to maintain.

3. The one when Haru calls Rin by his name for the first time. And I honestly for some reason didn’t even realize that this moment was in the anime until my 3rd rewatch (lol), but, man, little Rin’s reaction is the most adorable ever. I cry.

4. When Gou meets Haru for the first time and immediately goes “ah so you’re Haruka Nanase, the one, who my brother talks about 24/7...‘Nanase is so cool, Nananse is so fast!’” and Rin just goes red lmfaaaaaooooo.

5. When Haru says that he feels the fever running through his body each time he just sees Rin, but he doesn’t understand what it means... ahem.... OH WELL

6. When Rin tells them he’s leaving and Haru gets absolutely furious and calls him a selfish jerk, but then he feels his legs giving out and he thinks that he needs to be in the water, but then he realizes, that for the first time in his life it won’t save him and he’s so lost and fucking crushed. "you can’t just mess up my whole life and leave me like that” and “this can’t be true, I can’t be this weak.” aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa fucking hellish angst... that mix of emotions was seriously hideous, at first he was so confused and in denial, he couldn’t even think, he literally went “who is leaving?” and then it just all blew up. Poor baby.

7. Just all the little moments, when Rin notices everything Haru does and falls in love a bit more each time. Like when Haru slowed down, when he saw that Nagisa is having troubles of keeping up with him.

Nagisa was earnestly trying to keep up with Haruka. If he kept up that pace, he wouldn't be able to run next to Haruka for the whole trip. That was how it had been yesterday. Nagisa's breath was coming short, and when Haruka saw him slow down a pace, he lightly turned his eyes downward. I guess that's as far as he goes.

A sigh mixed with Haruka's long breaths. Then, by just a tiny increment, Haruka let his pace slacken.

"Oh?" Rin said quietly. Haruka could almost hear him saying "You're so nice, Nanase," and he tsked inwardly. Nagisa caught up to him, smiling as if it hurt a bit. It looked like he'd lost the energy to keep talking.

Just cute, and they watched each other all the time, it’d be a bitch to count each one, but god, all of them were cute.

8. All the moments of Haru pulling Rin’s pigtails... hilarious, especially the RinRin one, but the funniest and my favorite was when Nagisa turned to Haru to ask him for a permision to call Rin Rin-Rin, like... all the rights to Rin belong to Haru and vice versa lmao I agree. “I’ll allow it” lolz shut it, Haru.

9. This moment: “Something happened inside of him that made Haruka incredibly angry, he was so pissed, that he didn’t even want to swim anymore. To think that someone like Rin could make him feel such powerful swirl of emotions and make him such a mess... he felt disgusted with himself.” Yeah, Haru, love is dat bitch when you’re 13 lol

10. The one where Haru whispers “sorry for making you feel that way” to Rin? The one where Rin’s grandma doesn’t want to go to see the relay, but then she suddenly does, when she finds out that her grandson’s future husband is in it? The “he at that moment realized that the only thing Rin was concerned about was Haruka” one? I don’t fucking know, you pick haha ANY MOMENT, ALL THE MOMENTS XD

BUT in all seriousness, I do not get how you can love Makoharu after the novels. Like do people just ignore these moments:

“Haru waved Makoto off like an annoying fly”, “feeling annoyed by his obnoxious care, Haruka went right past him”, “feeling like Makoto’s smile could turn into tears any second now, Haru turned away and went to the showers” (fuck this shit I’m out lmao), “complitely ignoring him, Haru kept walking”.

??????? is this... does anyone find this amazing??????!!!!!!!!!!!

Or when Haru was literally fucking losing it, cause Makoto just repeated everything after him and how he just lost all the respect in that moment.

“I feel like I should also get into running.” Makoto said it as it was a joke, but Haru knew for sure that it wasn’t. More than that, he knew, that Makoto was going to ask him that ever since the moment he found out that Haru was running this morning. Haruka fel annoyed, because he couldn’t find the excuse to refuse him.

Or this moment:

“Makoto was late and Haruka didn’t have any reasons to wait for him. Makoto can catch up with him on the way, they’ll meet at the swimming club either way. For both of them it’ll be better, if Haru went by himself, than stood there and waited Makoto, slowly losing his temper.”

“Haruka felt uncomfortable, cause Makoto looked at him, as if was a weak”

Or this:

"Did you know I was going to come out here?" Even though he knew it was impossible, Makoto couldn't stop himself from asking.

"Nope."

"Then, why…" are you standing in a place like this?

"Watching the sunset."

and I can go on and on and on

and the fishies... oh my fucking god, the fishies

I’m just saying, all these moments are not even funny. My point in all this, that like no matter how much Haru loves Makoto as a friend... or got used to him is what I personally think, I don’t think he’s ever gonna idk how to say this... respect him as a human being? admire him? And this whole situation... I just can’t appreciate such kind of relationships even in a friends way. 

1stly because Makoto’s behavior in general makes me have war flashbacks to some of my real life experiences (and yeah, I confess, it affected me and that’s why I don’t like his character a lot; because I don’t think many people know what it’s like to deal with these kind of people in general). 2ndly, cause Makoto fans keep trashing Haru and many call him selfish bc of the way he treats him, but what they don’t understand is that if it wasn’t for Haru being this harsh, Makoto would literally became even doormat-y than he is now (yes, it’s possible lmao). 

P.S. my favorite in the novels tbh is all the Haru “I’m surrounded by idiots” moments, like when they started to dig the frozen soil with little scrapes and he was looking at them like they’re morons and then just silently walked away and came back with a giant shovel... “if you keep doing this with your tiny scoopers, we’re gonna be here all night” and they then they just watched him as he did everything himself LMFAO I just love him so freaking much. I also think his relationship with Nagisa are incredible and so underrated, since it’s a huge and incredible part of the books. I just keep saying, Haru’d be an amazing dad, so I can’t wait for him and Rin to adopt xD

Due to the fact that he was raised in Rivendell, he knows a lot about Elvish medicine, language and magic, something you would most likely enjoy learning, and even more if it was Aragorn the one teaching you.

Elves are also very attached nature, which makes Aragorn and you have similar hobbies and passions.

You would be 100% comfortable opening up to him, he's very emotionally intelligent and empathetic —is he a Pisces?

Do I need to say he's a gentleman? And loyal too. Also I'm not getting into the sexual stuff but you know, you'd be a great match in bed ;).

Yes, you're clumpsy, but that doesn't mean Aragorn wouldn't teach you how to properly fight, with sword, bow and arrow—you might need your glasses— and hand-to-hand combat. He would even make you a timetable so you both can do this things regularly as well as spend time with each other, something he would cherish.

You two would travel a lot through Middle Earth, sometimes with an actual purpose, and other times because he wants to show you places.

After he becomes king you'd probably have to stay in Minas Tirith —which by the way has a Big Ass Library that your Ravenclaw ass would love—but he'd definitely find time for you to escape your duties —I just realized you'd be queen lmao, he would definitely turn to you for advice— and go visit Rivendell, The Shire and Rohan.

Idk who’s picture this is but it’s beautiful and holy I don’t take any owner ship of it! Anyways I made the shot off of this and I didn’t edit it or anything I just kinda left it how it was and I made this all in one day so it’s bad....

It was dark at the time in the forest, the sun had set already and the moon took its place. There were fairies and other small creatures that lit the forest so it wasn't too dark.

Bill had told Dipper that they should go out in to the forest for no actual reason, but Dipper didn't refuse since it would be quite and away from every one at least. Not that he minded the groups company, just sometimes they can get pretty loud and annoying.

Also he would get time with the demon alone. He did have a small crush on him but would never admit it to himself or to the demon. They have been getting along very well actually they would go out in the forest a lot just the two of them alone.

It would be actually pleasant as most times it would be silent conversation which was calming and not awkward at all. Sometimes though they would talk about the journals, creatures that lived in the forest, or just about life.

Dipper was sitting on the ground with his back leaning against a tree. He was reading his journal as he lifted his hand to push his glasses up more on his face. He didn't really need them but it did help to see the words in the a bit clearer.

He glances up to Bill to who was leaning on Dippers legs facing away from him. It didn't seem like he was doing anything but starting at the fairies that flew by him. He's actually been more quiet today than usual.

"Hey, you ok?" Dipper asks lightly breaking the silence. Bill shifts his head to the side a little. Then suddenly he's moving as he turns around and crosses  his arms and lays them on Dippers knees.

"Why do you ask? Are you worried about me Pine Tree, well isn't that sweet." He says with a cheeky smile. Dipper glares at him as he feels his cheeks hear up.

"No. I'm just curious because you been quiet all day." Dipper says as he glances down at his still opened journal in his hands.

Bill raises an eyebrow and stares at Dipper who is slowly regretting his decision to speak first.

"Yes I've been quiet all day." Bill reply's with no emotion. Dipper frowns as he looks back up at him.

"Why?" He asks quickly only to flinch from not thinking. Bill stares at him with an amused look but doesn't say anything for a moment.

"Well Why do you think I've been quite Pine Tree?" asks with a smirk. Dipper thinks for a moment.

"Is it because of Grunkle Stan and the others?"

"No."

"Is it Gravity falls?"

"No."

"Is it the shack?"

"No" Dipper sighs. Well he didn't know it could be anything. Then a thought pops up he didn't know if he should ask or not it was kinda risky but it was worth a try.

"Is it...me?"

"Maybe" There was nothing on Bills face to give anything away as Dipper look at him a little shocked.

"Did I do something wrong or something to upset you?" Dipper said a bit of panic lacing his face as a beat of sweat was on the side of his face.

"No the opposite actually." Bill says with amusement. He sighed mentally with relief. Though he didn't understand stand then if he didn't do anything wrong.

"I...I don't understand then if I didn't do anything wro-" Dipper was cut off as Bill suddenly snatched his journal from his hands and set it closed and on the ground a little away beside them. Before Dipper could say anything though Bill pipes in.

"I'll give you a hint." He says as he sits on his knees.

"Why don't you just tell me?" He says getting a little angry that he wasn't just telling him.

"Well that wouldn't be any fun then." Bill says as he smirks at Dipper.

"Fine give me a hint." He glares at the demon who just chuckles.

"Gladly Pine Tree."

Then the demon is moving. His hands move to rest on the ground beside Dippers hips. Bills sides are in between Dippers knees as there faces are just inches apart. Dipper is leaning all the way against the tree as well as his head. His arms are at his sides hand lay on the ground almost touching Bills.

They've locked eyes. Bill's are in a serious expression but no hint of emotion can be seen. Dipper looks surprisingly not that shocked he is but the way the demon look he didn't know how to fell. Dippers mouth was opened a tiny bit not knowing if he should say something or not.

Bill lifts a hand slowly keeping eye contact the whole time. He pushes Dippers glasses up with his hair away from his forehead. Dipper is tense as he shuts his mouth.

And finally what seemed like forever Bill leaned in.

Bill's lips were soft.

Dipper still had his eyes opened shocked but Bill had his shut. Dipper couldn't believe what was happening. He was still tense though why would Bill kiss him he didn't show anything that Bill liked Dipper he couldn't believe it at all.

He was a demon after all he doesn't grow old like Dipper dose Bill would be crushed when that day comes.

Dipper was overthinking so much that he didn't realize that bill had stoped. He only started paying attention when the demon chuckled softly and meet his eyes.

"Stop overthinking things you know why now. We will talk about details later Pine Tree. Ok?" He says softly as the hand that was holding the glasses and Dippers hair slid down to cup Dippers cheek. Bill's thumb rubbed under Dippers eye slowly trying to make him les tense which worked.

Bill was right they could talk about it later it just worries Dipper. He likes Bill a lot he wouldn't want to think about things that wouldn't happen for awhile when he had only this moment to think about.

"Ok." Dipper nods slightly. Bill smiles then leans in agin.

Though this time Dipper kisses back.

Because as a JxH shipper that was spoiled both the ship and the ending, I'm always curious how ppl that didn't know what to expect react to it, regardless if they ship it themselves or not. Also, tell me your fave character, ship, fave season/episode, stuff like that. I love hearing what ppl think of this show lol

*spoilers for people who haven’t ever watched* *this also is so long sorry in advance, under the cut so it doesn’t clog everyone’s dash* ANON YOU HAVE NO IDEA HOW HAPPY THIS MAKES ME!!!! 

i knew some things but not how or when they happened (except eric leaving in s7, i knew about that and still UGLY CRIED)!! i honestly loved jackie and hyde together, they’re definitely one of my favorite couples, if not my favorite couple. i thought they balanced each other out so well and hate how s8 ruined their bond, it was almost as if their relationship never happened and seeing them hate each other again made me so sad. when they were together, watching hyde soften a little bit was so nice to see. jackie and kelso definitely were better friends in my opinion, they understood each other in ways no one else in the group did (probably because of past history), but despite their relationship failing i think their friendship was so sweet. jackie and fez made literally no sense and was way too rushed, but if they’re happy together i guess i can’t stay too mad at it (especially since it was only for like an episode). hyde and samantha was also a strange relationship, i feel like sam’s only purpose was to put hyde x jackie to rest for good. if they were going to keep sam in the show they shouldn’t have written her off the way they did. also idk if this is an unpopular opinion but kelso x fez low key should have happened but no one was ready for that conversation at the time. fez always seemed to worship kelso in a way he never did w eric or hyde, it would have been interesting to see them pursue something but after the buddy write off i wouldn’t have expected it. speaking of buddy, he definitely should have been a guest star more than once bc he would have gotten on so well with the gang. bi eric forman also should have been canon but anyway-

eric and donna had their issues, but at the end of the day i feel like it was expected they would be together. boy and girl next door fall in love, i mean.... it was always happening. they were cute in the beginning, but i do wish donna didn’t give up everything to stay with eric in point place just to have a complete 180 and have him leave when she was the one who always had plans to do things and he wanted her to stay to save their relationship. they kind of did eric dirty by making him seem like such a jerk by breaking up with donna OFF SCREEN and really without warning, that made me :/. but seeing them reunite made me cry despite them ending their relationship on weird terms. PLEASE DON’T GET ME STARTED ON RANDY HE’S THE ABSOLUTE WORST. he wasn’t a bad person he was just.... so annoying and served absolutely no purpose to the show except to annoy the living heck out of me. 

i honestly can’t choose a favorite character!! even the characters who i didn’t really care for much still hold a special place in my heart (except randy, this is a randy hate club). i love hyde, he’s always been the man and has the best taste in music (also would love to work in the record store with him?). donna is so cool, she stands up for herself and doesn’t really conform to society’s standards and i find her so likable (also laura prepon.... gorgeous). i hate kelso for cheating but i feel like he grew up throughout the show, as much as kelso can (like seeing him step up for brooke with betsy melted my heart), and he makes me laugh so incredibly hard. although jackie was a little annoying in the beginning, seeing everything she went through like her dad going to prison and her mom leaving her, and how she sort of unlearned some of her Not So Great qualities made me appreciate her more (also mila kunis.... very gorgeous). eric is.... well, he’s the heart of the show whether you love or hate him; i like him even though he was a little annoying at times, but i think his redeeming qualities outweighed the negatives. i feel for fez, they played a little too much on the ‘foreign’ thing and after a while i felt that it was :/ especially since he’d been in the country for so long (red always calling him the wrong name just.... ehhhh), he’s quirky and adorable and i love him. even though red was.... yeah.... i still loved the one liners and he and kitty were adorable, kitty is the cutest mom and the way she treated everyone like they were her own kid was just so precious. leo.... i don’t have any words, he’s simply the funniest person and whenever he speaks i lose my mind. bob was alright, he was good to donna but midge deserved better (like when bob was mad at her for taking the feminist classes??). 

everyone changed so much from the beginning of the show and i loved seeing the development even if it wasn’t what i expected initially. i can’t really choose a favorite season, i definitely need to watch one more time to figure that out. i love all the circle moments though. uhhh i don’t really know what else to say. i’m emotionally drained from crying over finishing this show. even though s8 was a bit of a mess i loved every second of consuming that 70s show and i can’t wait for my rewatch🥺🥺 let me know some of your opinions anon !! i could talk about this show all day
