Hangman: Now let's be clear, I don't love Rooster, okay?
Coyote: ...
Hangman: I just miss him when he's not around, I think about him all the time and I imagine us one day running towards each other in slow motion and I'm wearing a blue suede vest.
took luna for a long walk to dunkin and the walk was excruciating but i got my pink velvet latte & that was all i needed! then we got all the way home (even more excruciating), and in the backyard luna knocked me over from her zoomies, and
tragedy aside, it looks like blood. our neighbors will think someone was murdered
Steph: So you really like Grace then, huh?
Max: Of course I do.
Steph: What colour are her eyes?
Max: The... colour of the ocean... after a storm.
Steph: Which is...?
Max: ...beautiful.
I feel like I already know this one, but what's your anti otp/notp
You'd be correct. I don't hate any ship as much as I hate Kataang and Maiko, so now that I've named the obvious ones, I'll give you a couple bonus.
I hate Rory and Jess from Gilmore Girls. I wasn't a fan of Rory and Dean, but Rory and Jess are almost at the same level of hate for me as Kataang (I know! Le gasp!) I don't like the trope of the guy who hates everyone except his love interest, and Jess is that taken to the extreme. He's rude to literally everyone Rory cares about, but because he's read the same books as her and he's kind of nice to her, she fell for him? Also, he's garbage to me forever after The Party Incident. Which is never brought up again. I know he "made good" in the revival series, but it's too late. Plus it's mad creepy that he hasn't moved on from her in almost 2 decades. Did he ever have any other romantic relationships after her?
Also on my NoTP list is Ted and Robin from HIMYM. This is an example of why you should be very careful when committing to an ending for a story you haven't finished writing yet. If Ted and Robin had happened in season 1 or 2, I'd have been on board(ish). It would have been the predictable choice, but it would've been fine. But then the show spent over a decade explaining why they don't work as a couple, and building up Tracy, who managed to deliver and deliver hard in just a few short episodes, only to force Ted and Robin back together. What's going to be different this time? Robin is still pretty young. Is she just done globetrotting? Is Ted going to give up his career to follow her? I know his kids are older, but they'll still need him around until they're at least half-way through college. Is he going to try to be there for them from Argentina or Japan or wherever Robin ends up? Is he going to be okay living abroad when they start their own families? The show ending on them felt like a waste of 10 years.
I am forever moderately amused by the fact that I have a biology degree but somehow wound up with a biologist OC whose specialty is not at all what mine is.
like, don't get me wrong, I love amphibians and reptiles. I used to volunteer for a summer camp where I got to show off amphibians and reptiles to kids and tell them all about the creepy crawly critters.
but my specialty is microorganisms. the macroorganisms I've done the most schooling in are invertebrates, in particular molluscs. which are not the purview of a herpetologist.
but character development just sort of happened and now I have a herpetologist OC.
friends to himym to new girl are like. shows for each decade from the 90s to the 2010s that are literally just about people who are friends living life together. obviously himym has the "dad telling his kids the story of his life" but its really mostly just about the characters living life without a super big hook like scrubs, community, the office, or the good place
also super interesting to me that they really all ran for about a decade like friends was 1994-2004, himym picks up immediately after with 2005-2014 and new girl is 2011-2018. friends is pretty 90s most of the time, himym's in the middle but was mostly a 2000s show, and new girl is firmly a 2010s show
SOMETHING ELSE I REALIZED while writing this post was that they kind of show the shift between sitcoms with laugh tracks and sitcoms without ones. friends is pretty clowned on now for the laugh track but at least it's an actual live audience unlike the nickelodeon/ disney ones, himym was edited first and then shown to a studio audience but the laugh track is noticeably quieter than friends's track, and new girl is a single cam like most sitcoms now are
does seinfeld count as a show that's really just about people living their lives???? i haven't seen all of it but from the like 1.5 seasons ive seen i think it does???? and it started in 1989 up to like 1998 but that feels like a 90s thing to me
okay so there are all these sitcoms set in new york:
seinfeld from 1989 to 1998
friends from 1994 to 2004
sex and the city from 1998 to 2004
how i met your mother from 2005 to 2014
brooklyn nine nine from 2013 to 2021
this means that from 1989 until last year, at least one set of these characters has been alive and active in new york. this also means that for four years from 1994-1998 seinfeld, costanza, elaine, ross, joey, chandler, phoebe, rachel, monica, all lived within a stone’s throw of each other. Also from 1998 to 2004 ross, chandler, joey, phoebe, monica, rachel, carrie, samantha, miranda, and charlotte also were all together in nyc. and for one year 2013-14 barney, ted, lily, robin, marshall, diaz, peralta, holt, santiago, boyle, gina, terry, were all in ny. this blows my mind. blows it.
