jake, jay and sunghoon met during their freshman year of high school. the three of them soon realized that they all had almost everything in common- which lead to them being attached to hip almost every day. they treated each other like brothers- so it wasn’t weird that they shared everything together- including their secrets.

jake and you were born one month apart from each other. your parents met his parents during college, and they had created a friend group. jake and you became friends as soon as the two of you could walk. every day, your mothers would take you to the park or each other’s houses so you can hang out together.

when you entered school you were in the same classes and were partners for almost every project or assignment. you were there for every single one of each other’s firsts; you got to see each other grow up. it was something that others always called cute when you or jake told them about your friendship, but neither of you thought anything of it.

when high school started, your and jake’s daily hangouts started to slowly get rarer. you would spend every holiday together, thanks to your families. if you saw each other in the hallways at school, you would smile at each other or maybe ask how the other is doing- but that was it. jake turned out to be a lot more extroverted and outgoing than you. he liked to make friends and party, which was something you could only do so often.

so it was natural how you and jake slowly drifted apart and your friendship dispersed.

jake introduced you first to jay in freshman year. jay park was nerdy and smart. you felt at ease with him and thought that he would be a great friend to you and jake. he was kind and cared a lot about his grades, which you had in common.

jay park was known for having a strict father that demanded jay to get good grades and to do well in school, to make sure to focus on his studies: so he did.

you didn’t talk much to jay after jake and you had started to drift apart. if jay would pass you by, he would say a quick hello. during the first years of high school, jay wouldn’t shy away from sitting beside you in a shared class either. though, in the later years when jay started to gain popularity, the fewer and fewer you would have a seat next to him.

when jake and sunghoon joined the rugby team, you admit that you were shocked jay didn’t as well, since it was known that the three of them do everything together. but you overheard that it was because his father didn’t want any distractions for jay, which included any sports teams.

jay had grown out of his nerdy side and developed a more mature look that appealed to almost everyone. his popularity along with jake and sunghoon sky skyrocketed during his junior year and you could only sit back and watch him and your childhood friend party and get into drama, meanwhile, jay kept his grades up so his father would’’ notice the trouble he was getting into.

not long after jake introduced you to jay, they presented you with park sunghoon.

park sunghoon gave you an extremely different first impression than jay had, and it took you some time to figure out why jake had become friends with someone like him. sunghoon was shy and introverted and he really didn’t say much. though, jake and jay told you that as soon as you left, they would have to beg sunghoon to shut up.

at first, you thought that sunghoon just didn’t like you. he wouldn’t initiate any conversation with you, if you saw him in the hallways he would instantly look away with no expression on his face. and times at lunch, when you would join the three boys late, you would catch the way sunghoon would tense up when you sat down with them.

though, jake and jay assured you that it was just because you were a girl and that sunghoon was shy.

when the junior year started, and sunghoon and jake joined the infamous rugby team, sunghoon’s popularity increased as well. he was easily the most popular boy in your school from his attractiveness, his athleticism- and how easy it was to get him into bed.

you had heard countless stories about park sunghoon and the long list of girls he has fucked. and it shocked you.

little park sunghoon who couldn’t even look you in the eye- is having threesomes with cheerleaders from the opposite school behind the bleachers just minutes after their game had ended.

sunghoon would usually ignore you in the hallways, but sometimes, if he caught you looking, he would wink nonchalantly with the smirk on his face that he always wore. sunghoon had become hot and cocky, and it annoyed you. he was too good for you to say hi in freshman year, but now he was too hot to even acknowledge you when others were around.

jake, jay and sunghoon were always partying and disturbing someone or something. the three of them walked around school like they owned the place- and they pretty much did. most people wanted to either be them or be with them. some people were even intimidated by them.

you couldn’t care less about their reputation or how high they carried themselves.

you know who they used to be, who they are deep down, so you won’t let it affect how you see them.

jake, jay and sunghoon were like brothers. they had other friends of course, but they were never as close to the three of them as each other. they kept things to themselves, never sharing anything with an ‘outsider’ unless they talked about it beforehand. they liked to start shit, be in shit and end shit.

by the end of their senior year of high school, they had done almost everything you could think of and wanted to end their high school career with a bang. and since they share all their secrets with each other, it didn’t take long to think of something.

“wait, wait, wait,” jay looked up from his textbook to jake who sat two levels higher than him in the bleachers, “you like y/n? like y/l/n y/n?”

“yeah,” jake shrugged, a subtle smirk on her face.

“like, your childhood friend y/n?” jay confirms.

“yep,” jake nods again, shoving his friend in the shoulder gently with his foot, “what’s so wrong about that? i mean, i have known her all my life.”

“well, it’s just that,” sunghoon starts, not moving from his position of laying down across the bleacher's bench, “when was the last time you even spoke to her?”

“christmas!” jake answers immediately.

“yeah, so four months ago,” sunghoon answers, his arm covering his eyes from the sun, “you’re really gonna get her!”

“hey, i will get her,” jake argues back, “someday!”

jay scoffs, “yeah, not if i get her first.”

“what the fuck does that mean?” jake asks him confused, his heart picking up in his chest at his best friend’s words.

“i mean, she’s cute.”

“i know she is, but what do you mean if you get her first?”

jay sighs and closes his textbook, “i mean, i like her.”

“oh come on, man!” jake leans on his elbows on his knees so he’s closer to jay, “when was the last time you spoke to her?”

“like, last week, in the hall, for like a minute,”

“wow jake, he’s got four months on you!” sunghoon chimes in, still not looking at them nor moving.

“shut up, hoon.” jake slaps sunghoon’s calve, getting no reaction from him, “do you actually like her jay or are you just joking?”

jay shrugs, “i like her, she’s cute.”

“she’s relationship material,” sunghoon chimes in.

“what the fuck? are you into her too, hoon?” jake asks the co-captain of their rugby team.

the co-captain sits up now, squinting slightly from the bright sun, “i mean, yeah i guess.”

“holy shit and i thought you were just shy around her in freshman year,” jay reaches over and wiggles sunghoon’s knee playfully.

sunghoon smirks, “do not talk about the tragedy of freshman year.”

“why not? don’t remember the park sunghoon that couldn’t make eye contact with literally anyone except us.” jake teases him, ruffing his hair from above and behind him.

“no, i absolutely don’t.” sunghoon flinches and starts to fix his hair from jake fucking it up.

“so what? you’ve had a crush on y/n for all these years?” jay asks sunghoon.

“yeah, i guess.”

“then why haven’t you, playboy park sunghoon, made a move on her?” jake asks him.

“because like i said, she’s relationship material- not some girl i can just nut all over her face and then dip.” sunghoon explains in an obvious tone.

“so, are you gonna date y/n someday, too?” jay quirks an eyebrow at him.

“yeah, maybe someday, after she leaves both of you dumb fucks.”

“after?” jake restates, “why would she date you after she dates me and jay? how come she doesn’t date me after you guys, or jay?”

sunghoon shrugs, “because i’m the best, if she dates me before you guys there’s no way she’d go to either of you.”

jay and jake scoff at sunghoon’s cocky arrogance. it was something that neither of them have gotten used to or was sick of. it was a part of sunghoon that came during their sophomore year summer break when he learnt about lifting weights and protein shakes.

the three of them sat in silence for a moment, taking in the facts they just learnt about each other. there was a nostalgic, almost melancholic feeling in the school’s field on the bleachers where they’ve sat so many times before and one of their last times.

“you guys still want to do something big before we graduate this shit hole?” jake breaks the silence between them. sunghoon and jay turn to face their friend and nod, so he continues, “how about we make a bet, and the losers have to do something for the winner.”

jay and sunghoon nod, liking the idea.

“what type of bet, though?” jay asks him.

“the first person to get y/n to fall for his wins.”

sunghoon chuckles as jay nods with a smirk at jake’s brilliant idea. the three of them all thinking the same thing as they look at one another in the mid-day sunlight.

“and what does the winner win, exactly?” sunghoon asks them.

“off-limits of y/n,” jay says automatically, “which means neither of the losers gets to ever date y/n if the winner and her break up.”

jake laughs, “shit man, that’s tough- but i’m in.” jay and jake fist bump nodding with smiles before they look over at sunghoon, who’s leaning back on the bleacher's bench on both of his arms, his legs crossed over another spread out as he watches his friends. “hoon?”

“you in?” jay asks him.

sunghoon dryly laughs, looking out to the field before he’s reaching over and dabbing up both of his best friends, “i’m in.”

“bet,” jake nods with a smile, sitting back on the bleacher bench.

“bet,” jay repeats as he reopens his textbook.

“bet.” sunghoon finishes, going back to laying down, his arm crossing over his eyes to block out the horrid sun again.

in which i-land is a program to make both a girl and a boy group. you and three other girls are supposed to perform fake love, but the dance moves aren't easy. luckily for you, your now ex-rival heeseung is there to offer comfort.

a/n: this is the second part of my very small mini-series! part 1 here | part three here <3

phase two of i-land had started, and y/n was stressed to say the least. she and her team were 3 days away from the bts test, a performance she was in charge of leading, since fake love required some strong vocals and she was the best in that field.

two of her teammates, anna and georgie, had gone to a small practice room to check on the vocal details, while seungcha (the last member of the team) was sleeping in her room by y/n's orders, for she had overworked herself almost all day and it was already past midnight.

y/n was left alone in the main practice room and decided to go over the dance a few more times in hopes of getting right the moves she hadn’t mastered yet. she danced one part over and over again but couldn’t seem to stop making the same mistakes.

frustrated, she stopped the song, rested her back against the mirror and let herself fall until she sat on the floor. she felt angry at herself for not being able to execute the moves perfectly, and it was even worse when she thought that it was most probably affecting the whole group.

she slightly raised her head to face the ceiling, letting it also rest on the mirror, and closed her eyes. she felt overwhelmed by her incapability of dancing correctly and blamed herself for it, since a leader should be the one that did best in order to set an example for her other partners.

feeling anxious and angry at herself, she couldn’t help but let the tears fall, not caring about wiping them off. she cried, her negative thoughts getting stronger by the minute. she told herself she wouldn’t be able to debut if she kept that up. hell, she thought she wouldn’t even pass the next phase. she also wondered if her team could get out of such a slump if their own leader wasn’t good enough.

the stronger her assumptions were, the more the tears fell. the music that autoplayed from her playlist silenced her soft sobs, but the glass walls of the room left her exposed to whatever person that went down the stairs.

that person ended up being heeseung. he was going to the lower level of the building to see if the main practice room was available, whistling a tune as he made his way down. when he got off the last step, he saw y/n and wasted no time rushing to her.

y/n heard the door open and quickly wiped her tears, thinking it was anna or georgie and not wanting them to see her this vulnerable. to her surprise, she saw heeseung instead, but she was thankful it was him who found her. feeling a bit more at ease, she let the tears fall again, but they didn’t fall as strongly, since y/n was a bit more calm just by having the boy beside her.

heeseung sat next to her and made her rest her head on his shoulder, not before wiping the tears from her face. he put his arm around her shoulders and rubbed her arm gently. “what’s wrong?” he softly asked, worried that speaking any louder would bother her.

“everything,” y/n shortly and dryly chuckled. “i can’t get many moves of this dance right and that makes me not have enough time to check on my vocals and help the girls with that as well,” she let out between small hiccups caused by the crying. “what an amazing leader, am i right?” she sarcastically asked.

“oh y/n,” heeseung spoke. “you know that’s not true.”

y/n sat up right. ”oh but it is, heeseung!” she exclaimed. “i’m not working well by myself and even less as a leader, i’m supposed to be pushing these girls forward, not making them fall behind,” she sighed. “that’s not being a good leader,” she muttered while lowering her face.

heeseung moved so he was in front of her and lifted her face up by the chin with his thumb and index finger. “y/n,“ he said, noticing the girl couldn’t meet his eyes. “y/n, look at me, please,” he softly smiled when she did so, growing even more soft towards her when she looked at him with saddened eyes. he recognized that stare, since he had it not many weeks ago, at the start of the survival. he felt terrible knowing that she was going through such painful times like he also did.

“i know it’s hard to be a leader,” he continued. “but you need to remind yourself that you’re not the only person in this team, so you don’t have to do everything alone,” a pause. “i’m sure georgie, anna and seungcha know this, and they’ve been trying to lift some weight off your shoulders, but you’re not letting them.”

“i don’t want to burden them with anything, seung,” she worried, not noticing the name she added at the end of the sentence.

heeseung’s heart skipped a beat when she called him that, not having heard that nickname before. nevertheless, he focused on the conversation at hand. “but you’re not burdening them, you’re just asking for their help, and that doesn’t make you any less stronger or a worse leader,” he gave her a reassuring look. “in fact, it shows that you know when to be in charge and when to make others step up while you focus on improving your own skills,” he told her. “besides, i know for a fact that you don’t do ‘many dance moves’ wrong because i’ve seen you practise this song and you’re almost flawless.”

“‘almost’, you said it yourself, not completely,” y/n observed.

“that ‘almost’ can be perfectly fixed and turned into a ‘fully’,” heeseung countered. “and i can help you with that, if you don’t want to ask any of your teammates so they can focus on themselves a bit more until tomorrow.”

“you’d do that?” the girl asked.

heeseung chuckled. “why not? it’s not like you still hate me and i don’t want you near me.”

y/n looked at him with a mix of surprise and guilt. “i never hated you, heeseung,” she said. “sure, we fought and collided, but i never felt an ounce of hate towards you.”

the older looked away for a few seconds before meeting y/n's eyes once again. “well,” he smiled. ”younger me was dumb enough to think that you hated my guts.”

“younger you was very wrong, then.”

“and i’m glad he was,” heeseung smiled. “you know what? how about we start over?”

“what-”

“hi!” the boy cut her off, reaching his hand towards her. “i’m lee heeseung, and you?”

y/n giggled at what he was doing, but still played along. “song y/n,” she shook his outstretched hand. “nice to meet you.”

heeseung squeezed her hand before letting it go and looking at y/n. they both started laughing at what just happened, and he looked at her as their laughter died down. “there’s the smile i like,” he said in almost a whisper. “you look much better when you smile.”

y/n was amused at his words, trying her hardest to ignore the thousands of butterflies in her stomach that suddenly showed up because of him. she didn't want to admit it, but she was starting to fall for the boy.

feeling the sort of awkward tension between them, heeseung got up, grabbed the phone y/n was using and opened spotify. he searched for a song and pressed play, giving the girl a wide smile when snap shoot by seventeen boomed out of the speakers.

the boy started to dance around and acted silly from time to time so he could get a laugh out of y/n. at one point, he made her stand up and dance with him, not caring about making a fool out of himself, only focusing on the girl next to him and making her forget the bad thoughts she had carved into her mind.

his efforts worked, because y/n started singing the song out loud and laughed from time to time when heeseung made a weird move. when the song ended and second life started to play, the pair stopped fooling around.

y/n grabbed both of heeseung’s hands and, after some hesitation, pulled him into a hug. “thank you, seung,” she whispered to him, now actually being aware of the nickname. “i’m glad we can start over.”

heeseung returned the hug and rubbed her back. “i’m glad too, y/n, really glad.”

while both were sharing an embrace, they didn’t notice the two figures at the door. it was georgie and anna, the first one looking at the pair with a soft expression and the second with a smirk on her face. “told you they were not going to be rivals all their lives,” anna whispered, not wanting to get caught. “you owe me 10.000 won.”

“ugh,” georgie complained as they both went back to their practice room. “i thought you had forgotten about that.”

'chaconne' is a song that depicts the boy getting drunk and corrupted by his own dance.

hey guys!! enhypen is back and i’m totally in love with dark blood. both the album’s lyrics and music have fascinated me and it’s now my favorite album. i have a lot of thoughts, so i’m going to share my interpretation of chaconne, which is the most interesting to me so far. please listen to dark blood and show enhypen lots of love. 🤍

chaconne puts us in a scenario where the protagonist of the narrative is a “monster” who lives in a “shaded castle with no sun”. the situation is very depressing so i immediately visualize this monster living alone in the castle, but it seems like they’re talking to someone else and inviting them to dance because it appears to be a party. this monster has accepted that it is a monster and has also accepted that it lives among “dead flowers” (which can be interpreted as their life being miserable, but they seem to embrace and even enjoy it). the lyrics tell us that this monster likes darkness, so they start a party with 'chaconne' (classical music) playing in the background and begin to dance “drunk” with themselves.

what i find interesting is the mention of “a cracked mirror”, which can symbolize a distorted view of oneself. the monster may not be literally a monster, but it is depicted that way because it carries a lot of darkness within, although it could be just their perception. “match my moves whilst looking through the cracked mirror,” my theory is that this monster doesn’t actually have a dance partner and is dancing alone. the broken mirror, as i mentioned before, represents a false perception of reality. i think the monster is so “drunk” with arrogance that they are unable to see that they are truly alone and in misery. “as if I was drunk,” that “as if” makes me think again that everything is a lie.

i believe this song can be a representation of highly romanticized, arrogant, and pretentious depression. the monster is too arrogant to escape from that misery. dancing with classical music playing in the background while looking at yourself in the mirror and thinking you’re the worst person in the world seems like something a poet would do. i love how they have portrayed a depressed yet arrogant figure.

happy happy 3 years since enhypen were formed on iland. i can't believe it's already been 3 years since iland ended and the boys names were called off one by one...

i'm so happy that all seven of them were chosen that day. i love all the ilanders, but enhypen's final lineup truly ended up being perfect - they all compliment one another so well with their talents and personalities.
