synopsis : the girls soccer team hasn’t been doing great since the school year started. when nicholas starts taunting you about it you make a bet with him. will the two of you figure your differences out when your soccer team has to play against his?

YOUR EYES ADJUST TO THE DARKNESS, A COMFORTABLE SILENCE HANGS IN THE AIR.

The past five minutes you had been looking for the rope, but it wasn’t anywhere to be found.

The thought of walking all the way back made your legs ache. All that soccer training hadn’t helped the slightest.

The next pair must be on their way now, you think as you sit down and wait for your sign to leave.

As much as Nicholas would like to sit back and relax, he couldn’t get his mind to calm down. Especially not when the fourth pair arrives and you were still nowhere to be seen.

He can see how Ningning looks around, searching for you, and he feels anxious. She makes eye contact with him and Nicholas can feel himself tensing up.

“Where is she?” She asks, and motions to her partner to go to the teacher.

“I lost her on the way here.” He confesses with a sigh, and mentally prepared himself for her reaction. Ningning doesn’t get the chance to react, as the teacher runs up to Nicholas.

“Yi Xiang, I know this is kind of inconvenient, but Y/n still hasn’t returned yet. Would it be okay if you could go in and search for her while I call a teacher?” Her gaze falls on Ningning, and asks her if she wants to go with him.

“He lost her, so he can go find her.” She replies bitterly. Nicholas already expected the reply.

So, he headed off, and for the first time in a while, he didn’t feel annoyed at you.

Nicholas has no idea where you could be, because he didn’t know when or where he lost you.

He softly whispers your name, in case he distracts the next pair.

His heart is beating loudly, and he feels like everyone can hear it. He wasn’t scared when he entered the forest with you, but now that he’s out here looking for you, he’s scared.

Scared of getting blamed, scared of the responsibility and scared of not being able to find you.

Nicholas believed that you weren’t the type to be scared, but who knows what kind of things are lurking in the forest?

“Y/n,” a whisper calls out. You look around, hoping your ears weren’t misleading you. Maybe you were getting auditory hallucinations?

Again, a voice calls out your name.

“Hello?” You reply, standing up. Nicholas’ breath hitches in his throat. His pace quickens and he’s jogging over to the sound of your voice.

Before he has time to realise that you are right in front of him he headbutts you.

“What the fuck!” You curse out loud as you sit up. The pounding headache you are feeling is not the worst thing in this situation. It’s the fact that Nicholas was the one who headbutted you which made you fired up.

“Where were you all this time?” He asks. Leaves are stuck in his hair, and dirt is all over his hands.

“Right here? You walked away.” You scoff. That same guilt Nicholas had felt when he was searching for you returns.

“I’m sorry.”

“Hm? What did you say? I didn’t hear it?” You mockingly tease. If only you could record him apologising to you and set it as your ringtone.

“I said I’m sorry.” He repeats in a serious tone. It was too dark for you to completely see his face, but you were confused about why he was acting like this.

Y/n’s brother’s best friend. Out of all the people, she had to have a crush on him. The cocky, self-centered, high school heartthrob. And it didn't help when her brother invited him over nearly everyday. To their parents, Yixiang had become another member of the family. But not to Y/n. 

“Mom! Dad! I’m inviting Yixiang over!” Yelled Minseong. 

“Okay sweetie!” Their mom replied from her comfortable chair in the living room.

Y/n rolled her eyes with a sigh as she continued to pet their dog, Bo. 

“What’s with the sigh for?” Their dad raised an eyebrow. “Is it Yixiang?”

“Of course it’s Yixiang. There’s nobody in the world I hate more,” Y/n scoffed.

Her mom set her book down on her lap. “Y/n, that’s not nice.”

”So what if I hate him?” Y/n crossed her arms as Bo set his head in her lap, wanting to be pet.

“Well maybe if you’d talk with him, you’d get to know him and like him a little better. All you two do is give each other hateful looks,” her mom suggested.

“Even if I wanted to, he’s with Minseong 24/7, how would I?”

”All they do is talk and watch movies. We could all watch one together, in here,” she said.

“Great way to get to know someone,” Y/n replied sarcastically.

”It’s somewhere to start Y/n,” her dad pointed out. “We all hate seeing how you two look at each other.”

For someone reason, it felt like everyone in the room secretly knew that Y/n was just putting up an act, and that she really liked Yixiang, she just didn’t want to get close to him. So she claimed to hate him.

She sighed again and got up from the couch, petting Bo once more before getting a snack in the kitchen. Minseong smirked as he sat at the kitchen counter. “Somewhere to start,” he repeated their dad’s words with a chuckle. 

“Don’t make me throw this at you,” Y/n threatened with a jar of peanut butter in her hand. 

Just a typical day at the L/n household.

“Anyways, so then I run around the side, right?” Yixiang laughs as he continues telling stories of his recent soccer games. Telling stories… more like bragging. Minseong listened intently as the rest of the family stared off into space. Bo included. 

Y/n decided she was bored before leaving the room. 

“Where are you going Y/n?” Minseong asked, everyone’s attention on the girl now. 

“What do you mean ‘where am I going’? Away from here,” she answered, before glancing to Yixiang. “And away from him.”

”Why? Is Yixiang boring you? Do we need to do something else?” 

Y/n stared daggers into her brother’s eyes. “I’m just going to do what I want, okay?”

”No, your brother is right, Y/n. You never hang out with us,” Yixiang pouted. And for someone reason, Y/n loved the sound of her own name when it came from his lips. “Just stay for once? With me?”

”What is with you? I thought we hate each other,” Y/n argued. 

Mr. and Mrs. L/n gave each other a strange, knowing glance, before leaving the room. Y/n sensed they were planning something all along.

“No! I’m not giving you park place! Are you crazy?!” Yixiang shouted at Minseong as they played Monopoly, Yixiang’s choice. 

“It was just an offer! Plus two-thousand is a lot of money in this game,” Minseong defended. 

“Don’t care,” Yixiang said before rolling the dice. 

Y/n held her property cards in her hands and sighed. “This game will take forever to finish. Can’t we do something else?” 

“What did you have in mind?” Yixiang smirked, getting a little too close for her liking.

”Not what you’re thinking,” she scoffed and looked away. 

Minseong giggled to himself as that interaction took place. “You know what, I actually have to… do laundry,” Minseong said.

”Do laundry? Since when do you do laundry?” Y/n crossed her arms.

”Since now,” he replied, setting his cards down and running upstairs to his room.

”What was that all about,” Y/n raised an eyebrow before setting her cards down. “Well I was done with this game anyway,” she stood up and left to the living room. She took a seat of the comfortable sofa, and Yixiang followed suit. He sat right next to her. “Can I help you?” 

“No,” Yixiang replied, stretching, oblivious to her obvious confusion. 

“Okay,” she huffed, annoyed. She faced him. “What do you want? I feel like ever since you came over today, you’ve been different. Even my family has been different. Everything’s been different! What is going on? Is there something everyone here knows that I don’t?” She ranted. 

“Maybe,” he smiled, looking at his phone.

She crawled over to him and stole his phone.

”Hey!”

”Give me an answer!”

“You really think I don’t know, huh?” Yixiang chuckled.

”Know what?”

”That you love me.”

Y/n blinked and stared for about ten seconds. “Say that again?”

”I know you love me Y/n, it’s plain as day. You can stop trying to hide it, I love you too,” Yixiang smiled, inching his way closer to her.

”I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she stuttered, backing up into the soft sofa cushions.

”Oh I think you do,” he smirked, his arms on either side of her as he hovered above her. She was glad her parents weren’t in the room.

”Yixiang-“ she was cut off by a pair of warm lips on hers. And when her conscience told her everything about this situation was wrong, her heart strongly disagreed. All this time spent hiding her feelings and lying to her family as well as herself, was worth it now. She really was hopelessly in love. She kissed back as her hands slowly got entangled in his soft hair, that she had always wanted to run her hands through. Yixiang smiled into it and gently grabbed her chin, allowing him to kiss her more deeply. After a few more seconds, he pulled away.

”I really do love you,” Yixiang said, taking her hands in his. “Will you be mine?”

Her mouth fell agape as she was in pure shock. “I- didn’t expect this to happen today.”

”Neither did I,” he chuckled. “I kinda just went with the flow. So? What’ll it be princess?”

The nickname made her heart flutter. And she thought about how much she’d love it if he called her that every day. And how much she’d love kissing him every day. He had to be the one. The one she’d been waiting for since eight grade. “Yes Yixiang. I’d love to be yours.”

He smiled and connected their foreheads. “I like that answer.”

Y/n smiled at him before wrapping her arms around his neck. “I really do love you too Yixiang. I’m sorry it took so long to admit it.”

”Don’t apologize,” he pouted before kissing the bridge of her nose. “You’re worth the wait princess.”

nicholas ran and bellyflopped onto his comfortable bed as you laughed at him, closing the door behind you. you both had gotten back from school and since it was a friday, you could spend the night with him.

“im so tired, school’s a pain in the ass.” nicholas mumbled from his pillow, you playfully rolled your eyes at your boyfriend. you sat next to him as he closed his eyes, almost falling asleep.

you gently played with his hair but not too much before he would knocked out and wake up grumpy, as the silence filled up his room you suddenly remembered you had a literature assignment you had to get done. your eyes widened as you quickly grabbed your backpack and took it out.

you grabbed your pencil and folder as you got to work while your sleepy boyfriend was falling in and out of sleep. it was almost 20 minutes of you doing your homework assignment so peacefully before nicholas opened his eyes to see you.

“y/n what are you doing?” he asked in his deep sleepy voice in which you found very attractive, “im just finishing this one assignment.” “why?” you finally looked at nicholas, who had the most tired and disgusted look on his face. “because i don’t want to fail…”

“but— noo don’t do homework, that’s boring.”nicholas mumbled in his sleepy voice. you laughed at him, “nicho baby i can’t fail this class, just one more passage of this and we can do whatever you want to do.” nicholas held his hand under his chin, watching you do your work.

as you were reading your homework, you suddenly felt a weight press onto your thigh, looking down to see nicholas laying his head on your thigh, waiting for you to get your homework done. you silently laughed at your clingy boyfriend.

when nicholas is sleepy, you are the only person that sees a side of him that nobody else sees, he gets more… “yn are you done yet?” he asked.

oh yeah, clingy in the best way possible.

“mhm.” “baby.. hurry up for me please?”

that was your final straw. i mean how could you resist someone like nicholas?

“okay okay fine! you clingy guy.” you mumbled the last part. “nah i’m not clingy.” nicholas mumbled as you laughed at him, putting your stuff back into your backpack, finally turning to see your boyfriend, who already had moved from your thigh and put his head back onto his pillow.

you laid next to him as he suddenly grabbed your waist, pulling you closer to him. “ah nicho.” “shh..” you silently sat there in his arms, playing with his hair, having you also start feeling tired as well. it was a couple of minutes of plain silence before you suddenly remembered something.

“nicho.” “mhm.” “don’t you have a calculus assignment you have to turn in by tonight?” “oh shit.”

now it was your turn to watch nicholas tiredly do his calculus homework as you sat there, watching him.

“you were outside for how long? without a coat?”

it was your 2nd anniversary with nicholas. you remember like it was yesterday how he had bumped into you on the way to school and apologised like the situation was way more serious than it was.

your house was only a few blocks away from his, so you decide to surprise him with a gift.

it didn’t hit you that it was winter, and absolutely freezing outside. so when you finally arrive at nicholas’ house you were shivering quite a bit.

“please open the door quickly,” you whisper to yourself, but luck wasn’t on your side at all.

you even texted him, telling him to open the door, but the messages were left unread.

contemplating wether you should go home and get a jacket or stay and wait you’re snapped out of your thoughts by nicholas.

“what are you doing here?” he asks. he’s holding a bag filled with snacks.

“happy second anniversary,” you say, but the cheery note in your voice didn’t exactly carry over to nicholas.

“where’s your jacket?”

“i forgot, but i did get you this.” you give him the gift you had been holding the whole time.

nicholas unlocks the front door and pushes you inside. he kicks off his shoes and turns up the temperature of his house.

“you were outside for how long?”

“like six minutes? i think?”

“without a coat?!” he exclaims, “you’re going to get sick! are you crazy?”

“i thought you were at home.” you nonchalantly reply.

“sit down, right now.” he points to the couch, “take that blanket and stay there. what if you get sick because of me?”

“calm down nicholas, it’s not that bad.”

“i’m not letting you get sick on our second anniversary.”

turns out nicholas was on his way to buy snacks so he could invite you over. neither of you knowing it would turn out like this, your second anniversary was well spent with quality time.

watching Disney movies with Nicholas is always a time. most of the time he ends up pulling you onto his lap, getting you comfy and then focusing on other stuff. his arms tend to wrap around your waist whereas yours tend to end up around his neck, and where your heads are just varies, although his shoulder is a great place to lay on. normally he'll end up kissing your face, light pecks sweetly across everything, and the Disney movie becomes background noise. make out sessions that are sweet, a way to show love, even it Nicholas sometimes gets a bit rougher....until Taki walks in. The poor thing ends up yelling to K or Fuma, to which you both get a nice talking to about not traumatizing the baby.
